I’ve always heard such good things about OB Noodle House - incredible, because I just had one of the absolute worst experiences at a San Diego restaurant in over 12 years of living here.
First of all, the flies. The entire time we were there, flies were swarming the table, the hallway that food was being brought out from, and the bar. It was not a good sign. No fans or anything to help clear them out either.
Second, the part that made me write this review, their fish made me so sick I actually threw up the entire meal on the ride home. I ordered the Vietnamese Basa (?) fish, which came out looking a little translucent but it came out on a sizzling plate, so I thought it was safe to eat. I didn’t send it back, I ate it. Big mistake. I was driving home, and out of nowhere, I felt incredibly sick and had to pull over so I wouldn’t cause an accident. This was roughly 25 minutes after leaving the restaurant. I’m not pregnant, had zero alcohol, not on medications that would cause vomiting. They served me undercooked fish and I almost immediately got sick.
Our party of 5 (3 guys and 2 women) was served by a waitress that initially seemed nice, but turned confrontational and accusatory when she misheard one of our party just stating “to order” while turning to face her, and finishing a conversation with someone else at the table. She kept asking him what he said, and ”yeah I know you said what I heard”, but she never repeated what she thought she heard. He was so stunned by her sudden hostility, he actually didn’t even remember what he said in the moment. And yes, I understand that wait staff everywhere get harassed and mistreated by the public so often it’s just easier to have your guard up, but we were in no way saying anything offensive or even politically charged at any time. It was a work lunch with coworkers, ffs. It was bewildering and a terrible way to start an encounter with strangers.
Everyone’s order was brought out by a different server, at least 4 different people came out with plates. One of our party asked to buy a beer, and showed her ID to one of these servers that was bussing plates. A male dark haired server or manager came out and asked if someone ordered a beer, and our friend said yes it was her. He asked again to see her ID and she said, “oh I just showed it to one of the servers that was here”. The guy went back and checked with our original server, who was not involved in bring out our orders, and asked her whose IDs she checked, and she stated, just the two guys, not the girl. This man came back to our table and said “there’s no point in lying, show me your ID”. Is this how you treat an actual customer of your restaurant? Wow. Our friend showed the guy her ID, and there was no issue because she was over 21. He never apologized. How insulting to treat someone that way and not say anything to apologize for such asinine behavior.
Please DO NOT go to this location. I can’t speak for the other location but I am never going back to this place, I’d give it zero stars if I could.
TLDR: insanely terrible “service”, disgusting flies everywhere (likely on the food in the back too), undercooked/dirty meat that caused vomiting right after leaving the restaurant.
