Google
We went there on family recommendation for the broasted chicken with a large group of 12. We were not disappointed by the chicken. Their chili, homemade potato chips, sweet potato fries, were also good. Most of us agreed that the au gratin potatoes came out hot, but needed more flavor. The top was cheesy, but the middle sauce to potato ratio was too much potato.

We stopped in for a bite after exploring all day. The waitress was very awesome, very attentive food was delicious and came out super quick. Nice atmosphere, clean and everyone was friendly. Would recommend if in the area. I had the Ruben very tasty. Kids loved the spaghetti.

Google
Lots of variety on the menu and they have outdoor seating so you can catch some sun while it’s still nice out. So of our food was dry and over fried but the fries are bomb. Place is still a legit overall spot to grab a drink and eat at….and a good bang for your buck as well for the most part. Unfortunately they don’t have many deals or specials that I know of. *free popcorn is nice

Google
Obb’s is a legendary old school neighborhood landmark. Fabulous food, the staff are professionals who are friendly and efficient, the food quality has never disappointed. My personal favorite dinner is Broasted Chicken. In the early 80’s our intramural softball league hung here after the games, got to know my future wife here! A friendly atmosphere where there are plenty of fascinating regular customers. A ten out of 10 kind of place. We prefer to sit at the bar for best conversations.

Google
Updated 2022: staff and food are still fantastic! Signs on the door to prevent any people who are sick from entering which is a mn nice way to prevent illness that I appreciate. I tend to get the Reuben and tonight it was wonderful and I'm so full! Original review: I love this "old faithful" on the east side. It has great food, great atmosphere and great staff! They are centered around community and I love that! Today was a pretty nice day to find a seat and relax. Will be back, as always!

Google
Their broasted chicken is amazing! The prime rib portion was huge.

Google
We had a burger with Swiss cheese, mushroom and the fixings (lettuce, tomato, pickle) plus a side of onion rings. See the photo. Very juicy. We also had the walleye. Very good.

Google
My favorite Bloody Mary ever! The best Broasted Chicken of any place I’ve eaten. I was raised on the East Side and Obb’s is like going home. There is not an item on the menu that you won’t enjoy. Today we had Broasted Chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy and The Fish Dinner with Au Gratin potatoes. Everything is freshly prepared there. I highly recommend you stop in for a meal. ❤️ They also have an amazing breakfast!!!!

Yelp
Obbs is a destination. It's a fun place with a neighborhood feel. Food is outstanding. Prices are within reason. I've been here many many times and have never been disappointed. If you want to have a great meal in a safe and friendly place, this is it. Try it. You'll love it.

Yelp
This is a good bar for watching the Timberwolves games! The service here is very dive bar equivalent. They have a variety of beers, drafts, wines, and cocktails available. Their food is very fun of the mill as well with burgers, appetizers, and daily specials. The place is usually busy during game nights so make sure to show up early to find a spot and know that service will be slightly slower due to the crowds. The bartenders due a good job and drinks are poured very standard. There is a full bar of seating as well as table seating available in the back. The place can be a bit noisy but overall is a good place to have a few drinks.

Yelp
I stopped for lunch to say and was warmly greeted by staff and was seated. I had a 7 ounce steak open face sandwich, which was cook to my request!! This is a real neighborhood institution! The inside is well done and gives you a warm feeling!

Yelp
Omg I have been here countless amount if times and I can honestly say the food here is outstanding. The service is superb and the atmosphere there is such a welcoming one. I know the manager and a few of the waitresses that have had longevity there, One being Trish, she is amazing. She is honestly my favorite because she knows my order right away because I get my usual Cuban sandwich and Dave gets a Manhattan on the rocks and she knows when she sees us before we order do you two want your usual. She even knows my mom gets the seasonal Leinenkugel's beer there and she asked her if she would like that too. So I can tell you this is an amazing place with countless number of tvs and the service there in honestly the best. I highly recommend this place. It is the place to go.

Yelp
Kind of a hidden gem. I've been here twice, once in the summer and once in the winter. They have a nice patio that is great on summer afternoons. The inside has lots of seating and the bar is a busy place, full of nice people and great staff! Even if you come here at "lunch" or "dinner" time you'll have no problem finding a spot to park and probably no problem finding a spot to eat/drink. This last time I had the spinach and artichoke dip. It was good and definitely filled me up! I will definitely be back, we play softball in the area and it's a great spot to pre game!!

Yelp
A classic bar restaurant that has deep local roots and culture. Great food for better prices. Popcorn too. The steak bites are basically a New York steak cut in bigger than bite size pieces.
google avatar

Scott F.

Yelp
Great chili, sandwiches and service. Popcorn is a plus. Cozy neighborhood bar where Jim makes you feel at home.

Yelp
I love in Savage and I met some friends for lunch. Obbs was hard way for all of us. Server was wonderful (Searia). We all had something different and not one complaint, which is unusual for 6 women.

Yelp
I've been here 3 times and plan to keep coming back. It has a lot of history and has some great food. I've been told by many people they have always been pleased. So far, I've had the steak tips and the prime rib sandwich. Both had a lot of flavor and the tips had a lot of cilantro which made it much different than other steak tips. I always do medium rare came out on point. The prime rib sandwich was also very flavorful and excited to try their prime rib night Thurs or Sat. Other things I have tried are the deep fried Mac n cheese and very similar to what you can get at the state fair. The bartenders and servers all do a great job and you can tell there is a lot of repeat customers in the restaurant and bar. The parking lot isn't huge, but there is street parking.

Yelp
Stopped in for breakfast on a Saturday morning and I felt I was walking into Cheers! Such a neighborhood friendly old time feel to this place. Service with a smile and incredible bloody Mary's and food. My mom and I enjoyed our meals very much. Definitely check out this spot for weekend breakfast!

Yelp
That chorizo breakfast burrito is so massive and so delicious! Fun little bar environment.

Yelp
Have had the fish fry's in the distant past as well as other food and it's always really good food in a nice setting. This time we three sat on the patio outside and it was a great view on a perfect day, and the hot wings were on point. Good selection of beer on tap too (Stella Artois was fresh). I was the only one in our party micro dosing mushrooms (okay maybe a little more than micro, it's not an exact science folks) but to quote Sergio Dipp we were all "Having the time of our life," and we laughed and laughed for over an hour as we basked in God's light. At one point near the end of the experience I turned around to check out the surroundings (other diners mostly) and noticed that a few tables had a lot of eyes on his with a mixture of bemusement and amusement (they probably wondered why we were laughing riotously for over an hour). Between the three of us it was funny enough-my brother dressed like an engineer, our buddy from Wisconsin in his cowboy hat and wranglers, and myself in my post workout attire (John Stockton height shorts and a white tee a size too small to show the guns). Before we left I went to use the restroom and I haven't been inside in a few years, so didn't realize how nice the dining area was. Great ambiance and a lot of history here.

Yelp
This place is fabulous. The wait staff and management are top notch. They are always packed because the food is fresh and delicious. They get you in and out FAST, but never make you feel like you need to hurry. Love this iconic treasure.

Yelp
Fun busy atmosphere. Horrid fish fry. Over battered no fish, No flavor! Service was excellent and fast. Friendly server.

Tom K.

Yelp
Had to go and try this place, they said the Cuban was great so I had to try it. It's the best one in the St. Area without a doubt!

Yelp
Not for vegetarians. So why did I go there? A group chose the place unaware of my food needs. I ended up ordering a baked potato; there wasn't much more to eat. Not even salads (which included meat) and soup (which also had meat). I'm not complaining - they don't bill themselves as veg friendly. More of a warning if a member of your group isn't a meat eater. The place otherwise had an old school, friendly, everyone knows your name kind of vibe. Great for watching sports or celebrating after a game. Lots of fried options, sandwiches and burgers... the usual. My friends appeared to enjoy their food and the service was fine, if a bit slow on a busy weekday night.

Yelp
Obb's Friday Fish fry during lent is always crazy busy. They have a good system and keep people coming and going. I wish they had a louder speaker or a text system for calling tables. They have a bar. The servers are super friendly and attentive. We did the fish fry and were able to get in with a party of 5 within 30 mins at around 530pm. They do not take reservations so get on the list in person. Parking can be challenging when they are busy. The fries are cooked crispy with a pillowy inside. The fish pieces are huge. The unlimited refills come with another 2 pieces for refills. The tarter sauce has a good flavor. The steak was the quality of a local bar and grill. They are family and kid friendly. My kid's had spaghetti and a grilled cheese. This place has great portions for kids food and a good selection.

Yelp
This place is the epitome of a Midwest Minnesota bar. They have a ton of appetizers like wings, cheese curds, etc. On this particular visit we shared an appetizer of chicken nachos, they were very tasty. One of the cool things (another MN delicacy) is that they have a popcorn machine and at this time (post Covid) it's self serve. It's a tight area but have at it. They have pull tabs as well and seating in the bar area or the dining room. Wait staff is nice and quick so please be kind.

Susan M.

Yelp
Very good food, lots of choices. Fish fry is always a favorite, and breakfast too. Waitresses are fantastic! Great atmosphere

Yelp
4.5 stars! This is one of the first two bars I was served beer and drinks back in 1975/76. I was a Senior in high school and went here with my older brother who was 18 at the time which was the legal age then. I took my #3 granddaughter who is 16, to share this experience with her. It was so cool. Great food, friendly and warm service, and an atmosphere that evoked so many memories. So glad I could share them with my Granddaughter Elizabeth.

Yelp
We came on Saturday specifically for their prime rib dinner special. When your order the special you get the choice of a soup, salad, coleslaw with a potato choice all paired with a 14oz prime rib. We came early as last time they ran out by 7pm telling me it would be good so come early cause the tables do go fast. The inside has a family owned small town bar restaurant feel. The wait staff was very friendly and provided great services. They have a decent tap menu and the beers were nice and cold. I order my prime ribs medium rare and she had medium it was well cooked and tasted amazing. I highly recommend giving Obbs a try for their prime rib special. They have it every Saturday and Thursday.

Yelp
Good food and service is outstanding and I will definitely be a return customer ! Always greeted with a smile and hello.

Yelp
Too expensive for the quality over priced.. entitled staff and never a happy hour??? They have good staff, but food is just -okay

Yelp
Obb's is a staple in the community. Great place to watch the game, peel some pull tabs, and gobble some better than average bar food.
google avatar

Yelp
Classic sports bar and grill. No frills, no fuss, just the way it should be. Large patio is a bonus. Try the grilled cheese or classic burger for a great price with friendly service. Lots of free parking!

Mary E.

Yelp
Obb's is a neighborhood bar with great neighborhood vibes that the whole family enjoys. The menu selections are everyone's favorites with good prices and specials are good and tasty, too. The portions are ample and the service is friendly and generally speedy. Try a 'meal in a glass' with their famous Blood Mary. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Came to this bar on a Sunday and things had started off descent but when I ordered a 2nd round of shots and was told .... And I quote "we don't do shots all night here". I really wasn't sure how to take that comment and immediately looked over at my girlfriend and best friend and asked "did he just say what I think he did". Told my girlfriend and best friend, that I had to get to the bottom of why he said that to us. And in Bill's defense, he tried to say he wasn't trying to come off rude, it's a family friendly bar and shots are just not their thing at the bar, they don't wanna be known as a bar that's trying to get people drunk and what not. And I get that but c'mon now, since when do you make comments like that to a customer?! I'll try to go back another time but Mr Bill rubbed me off the wrong way and it will take me some time to go back. I even still tipped 20 percent regardless. Come on Bill, work on that approach to customers or probably don't say "we don't do shots all night here" on our 2nd round of shots. Water Moccasins were the shots I was ordering incase anyone wanted to know.

Yelp
Celebrated robs birthday with the fam. Three of us had the Cuban, which was delicious but I would have them replace the spicy bacon with regular. Annie had a steak, which she said was great. Kids had burgers with no complaints. Rob had broasted chicken, which he demolished. Overall a great meal and service!
google avatar

Yelp
We had been hearing about Obb's on social media as having one of the best fish fries and generally as a great restaurant and bar. The place has a lot of history, it was one of the 1st bars to obtain a liquor license after prohibition. We had read that the fish fry starts at 4:00 on Fridays, so we got there shortly after 3:00. At that time we had our pick of tables. We found a table right under a big screen TV and proceeded to watch the Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament and ordered our beers. We let the server know that we were there for the fish fry and she kindly brought us a basket of popcorn with our beers to hold us over until the fish fry started. At around 3:30 she started taking orders for the fish fry, we weren't the only folks that got there early for the big event. We did find out that there is a fish fry lunch, but it isn't all you can eat. One of the tricks to their fish is that it is frozen once, not multiple time, which prevents from tasting really fishy and tastes fresh. The batter was light and crunchy, we thought we sensed a taste of fennel in the batter. The tartar sauce was not house made but tasty nonetheless. We really liked Obb's for their history, friendly staff, neighborhood bar atmosphere and good food. Look forward to going back.

Yelp
Battered Fried Fish walleye was awesome and service solid. Right off a nice bike trail

Yelp
I was there again this week and enjoyed very much their Hot Turkey Sandwich. It's fresh turkey and that is very good as well and the potatoes and gravy. It's alway as great place to go, their food is very good and also the same can be said for their service.
google avatar

Roxanne S.

Yelp
Neighborhood favorite. The beer is consistent and cold, the food is great, we loved the fish fry and I'm very loyal to their fried chicken sandwich and sweet potato fries. Service is great! My only warning is this place can be crazy packed!! This place gets unbelievably crowded and it's very hard for the staff to keep up. If the parking lot it over flowing, go another time ;)

Yelp
I've debating between 2 or 3 stars. I've settled on 2. My experience was very disappointing. Which is a bummer because the reviews I looked at were so good. We arrived, and as we were walking through the patio a waitress had come outside to tell a group of patrons that there wasn't service outside today so they would have to come inside if they wanted food, and she dramatically told them "and we don't push tables together". They seemed to have a big party. As we entered the establishment, it seemed a little busy. We waited to be seated and that was a little annoying. We had 3 different staff members walk past us and clearly make eye contact, and still not a one said anything to us. Finally the 4th person stated someone would be with us shortly. An older lady approached us, and asked how many. We had 4 in our party, 2 adults, 2 kids. She pointed out a table, and told us we could sit there. I pointed at the table to clarify which table, and the table she was pointing at only had 2 chairs. We told her, and she looked at us and said make the kids sit on the floor. We chuckled politely, even though it wasn't funny. Then she suggested we go find chairs at other tables, that we could use. I was kind of shocked by this. According to the waitress from outside, tables and chairs aren't allowed to be moved, but inside feel free to do so. That was the vibe I got. The older lady could see we weren't too impressed, and said oh just wait here, I will get you two chairs, looked at the youngest child (10 yrs old) and said you're going to help me, come with me. He didn't know what to do, but eventually followed. When we sat down, we noticed and overheard the waitress before (from outside) complaining to the adjacent table, about how it's going to take her awhile to assist them because she has 3 different parties in three different areas of the bar and grill. She proceeded to tell them how ridiculous the people outside were being. I would tell you her name, but she wasn't wearing a name tag. That's when I thought, maybe this why places don't make people wear nametags, so you aren't able to point out who is actually terrible at their job in this place. Anyway, moving on, I was thankful she wasn't our server. We had a chipper lady. However she didn't seem to know much, and tried to giggle her way out of the questions we asked. Our food came out quick enough. Our order consisted of a Chef's Salad, no ham, extra turkey Reuben with chips Full Rack of Ribs, with regular fries Taco Wrap with sweet potato fries The chef salad was good, the turkey was fresh which was a nice surprise. A little disappointed in the lack of veggies with the lettuce. Could have spruced it up a bit more. The Reuben was delicious, it wasn't soggy or anything, very pleased. (The dressing was on the side, I didn't ask for it that way, but that was how it was served, and I'm okay with that). Ribs, looked so good, falling off the bone, yummy! My only issue was they had a bit of a kick to them (spicy) and the person who go them isn't a fan of spicy, he wish he knew that when he ordered them. We did ask the waitress as well, but the giggle answer of yeah I don't think they are spicy was the answer we got. The Taco wrap was good, but the sweet potato fries were over salted. I thought for the food they deserved a 3, but the service just kicked it down to a 2 because it's hard to get through a decent meal when you aren't comfortable. Overall, I may go back again, probably 1 more time to see if the experience is different. The Pot Roast with Mashed potatoes looked really delicious, so I will probably try that, but if the service is the same, that is all the chances I will give.

Yelp
This place is awesome. It would be 5 star awesome but my Dago was warm verses piping hot. We got there tonight for dinner this evening and the parking lot was plump full. We were a bit nervous but the place was only half full. We seated ourselves and the waitress was there serving our drinks in no time. We ordered our meal and within a few minutes the soup, salads and cheese curds were served. Fresh Ellsworth curds was my guess. Great flavor and the quantity was worth the price. The marinara sauce was served hot and also had good flavor. Everyone ordered something different but my camera died so no photos. Everything had great presentation and tasted great. My hot dago could have been much hotter. I think it sat on the warming table for a while. Still portions were huge and flavor was very good. I opted for the onion rings which had a nice flavorful batter on them. Nice portions on the side. I would certainly return to this place. And they have meat raffles!!

Marie F.

Yelp
Great food. Friendly staff. Friday fish fries are really good and their broosted chicken is wonderful

Brent S.

Yelp
A precious rarity these days! Obb's is a feel-good spot for families and everyone to select from Minnesota classics at a bargain price! Prime rib and walleye is amazing! Huge portions also! Friendliest service too!

Yelp
Well this is the first time I have ever given an establishment a 5 star review twice. This place definitely deserves it! For the simply being consistent in what they deliver in service & prepared meals. John the bartender continues to deliver a classic five star experience every time I sit at the bar for breakfast. Most places you have no idea one day to the next what kind of experience your going to have. In the five years I have been coming here. They have never disappointed. As a manager at another business, I find this amazing and beyond exceptional. Thank you John and the rest of the staff for all you do!
google avatar

Hillary M.

Yelp
Best TO GO food, other than pizza since Covid began! Thank you, finally someone who cares about all customers, and food quality. In addition, everything was separated appropriately, not soggy at all, threw it in the broiler quick, fresh and good to go! Not to mention the Cole slaw was delicious, and had a good serving size!
google avatar

RJ W.

Yelp
The staff is always friendly, the beer is cold and cocktails are made well. Burgers are juicy and the fries are perfect. On Fridays they have a fish fry that is excellent. The breading very light! Wait times are usually less than what you are told and waiting on the patio is relaxing. This is just a great place go with your date or with bunch of friends.

Rickard S.

Yelp
Been coming to this place for over 25 years and it's still top notch. The clientele is a bit older now but so am I. If they run out of prime rib on Saturday and the always sell out don't hesitate to get the broasted chicken. It is the best in the twin cities. Don't waste your time and get the larger portion mixed. Trust me. It does get busy but never had a problem getting seated. I prefer the older section over the newer addition but that's for nostalgia's sake. Beer, pull tabs, great food, and great service

Yelp
I am on the hunt for Minnesota's best fried/breasted chicken. Obb's kept popping up when seeking out recommendations, so we decided to give it a try. The place is bigger than it looks. We walked in and were prompted greeted by the sweetest lady at the host stand. Well, technically, she was sitting at a table a few feet away, eating dinner, so she told us to just have a seat wherever. We certainly weren't going to interrupt her meal. We sat in the bar. We barely sat down and a server was over there to greet us. Major points!!! So quick, we hadn't even been able to look at the beer options yet. Started with a pitcher of Alaskan amber beer. $16 for a pitcher -- good price. My menu choice was easy -- gimme that chicken. Ordered the half chicken. 4 pieces for $14, which includes soup/salad and a potato. Great price. Opted for the salad; disappointed to see that places still serve iceberg lettuce salads. Two slices of cucumber, two tomatoes. Boring and basic salad. Chicken arrived with side of ooey gooey cheesy au gratin potatoes. Potatoes were delicious. Only knock here is the potatoes were cubed. When i think au gratin, i think sliced potatoes. Not that big of a deal. Plenty of cheesy sauce. Chicken. I'd give it 3 stars. I like a thick breading on there. Helps seal in the juices. The breading was on the thinner side. Skin was still crispy, but it could have used a few shakes before serving (excess of grease). Overall, good seasoning on there. Would definitely return, but might try some other menu items. Husband's Cuban looked pretty tasty.

Richard R.

Yelp
So went there last night for the fish fry.It was packed but the staff did a great job getting people to a table. The fish was amazing fresh crispy and yummy. We ate at the back bar and were greeted by John Patrick O'Brien and within a minute we had drinks and are order was in.If you don't like fish they have alot of different food I've been going there for years and never had a bad meal.Great job Jimmy,John and the entire staff of obbs.now I want to go back again to eat something else.

The wife did not want to cook breakfast today, so she found Obb's on FB, specifically because they had a Chorizo Burrito (I love Chorizo), so we decided to get some takeout this morning and this burrito is pretty dang tasty!! We will definitely order future meals from Obb's and once things return to normal, we'll stop in for a pint or two.

Yelp
Obb's is an institution. In fact, I stopped in today for lunch, and could even smell the glory of yesteryear - a hint of Pall Mall. No, the whole place doesn't smell like smoke, but you get just a faint hint of it upon entry. Anyway, just as I remembered it - clean, quick service, great food that's very reasonable, and a large menu too. I ordered the Sicilian Dago, which was delicious (and spicy)! Plus, they had about 25 beers on tap, which was fantastic because I was certainly interested in doing some day drinking! If you've never been to Obb's - give it a shot; you can't go wrong. The parking lot is small, but if you can park anywhere nearby, you're good. Enjoy!

Yelp
I come from a blue-collar family and I value really good food in large portions at reasonable prices. It is in my DNA. Yeah I like gourmet stuff, too, because I'm all edumacated and stuff, but chicken fried steak or beef commercials or a fish fry has a special place in my heart. Probably next to a partially clogged artery, but hey, I eat kale and stuff, too... This place is a gem. We were there for the fish fry and the portions were HUGE. Everything was piping hot and really good. The beer was cold. The staff was friendly. I mean, what's not to like? The only funny thing is that we were there early, around four, and I was easily the youngest person in the dining room. And I'm 58. I'm sure you see families come in later on, but it was funny to be the youngest in a crowd for once. :-). This place is worth hitting up. I'm going to try their pork chops or ribs next time.

Yelp
I use to be a regular when my parents lived nearby. Now they live in Montana and I only come 3-4 times a year. They are wonderful and amazing service and the waitresses are polite and smiling and they are sanitary and clean and very friendly atmosphere. So please come and eat here and enjoy the amazing food. My favorite is the Cuban sandwich and fries. There spinach and artichokes dip is also terrific. Hands down 5 stars.
