The Best Breweries in Seattle | Eater Seattle

"It’s no understatement to say that all of the breweries in Ballard’s brewery district are worth visiting. But if you’re on a time crunch, be sure to include Obec among your stops. The name means “community” or “village” in Czech, which is the source of inspiration for most of the styles made here. You can’t go wrong with the crisp, clean Czech pils during a sunny day on the patio out front, but we recommend checking out its maltier cousin, the Czech Dark Lager. It’s still super drinkable at just 4.5 percent ABV, but each amber sip washes down with subtle nuttiness and delightful notes of dark chocolate. You can occasionally find Czech-style beer at other breweries around Seattle, but here is where the mastery is." - Brianna Gunter

I really enjoyed this space and their beer! The staff was super friendly and they were playing some pretty good music. It wasn't to busy so it was nice to relax in the space!

This was an amazing place to hang out. We were on a road trip with our newly rescued dog, Maybelline. They were very welcoming to her and us.

I'm on the board of a community organization that held our annual event at Obec this year and our group had such a fun time. Wayne and the bartender staff all did a fantastic job making sure we were well taken care of. Our small event planning team mostly got to just relax and enjoy gathering with our community after we were done with our very easy set up. Stacey, who oversaw the planning for the event, was a delight to work with in helping us organize, answering all of our questions, ensuring everything was tracked, and even helping us coordinate a food vendor that served delicious tacos made on-site. Also, I just really love this space... the giant Art Nouveau style mural on the outside of the building, the twinkle lights on the barrels in the event space, the secret door between the main bar and Side Pull Lounge with a library of vinyl record albums, and the lighting and wall decorations all make this place feel like it's thoughtfully put together and loved without being overly stiff. We will definitely be back.

Google
European style beers, with a much better variety of tasty options for those who are weary of the "look at our selection of IPA" style menus. Frankly this is my favourite brewery of the whole Ballard lot. I've never had something here that I wasn't happy with. Bonus points for the friendly staff.

Google
In the heart of the brewery cluster, what an awesome spot. Bartender is a solid dude. Had the Czech Pilsner and it did not disappoint. Enjoyed the vibe, plenty of seating and a lot their tables have chairs with backs (for you fellow millennials). Beer was flavorful and a must stop.

Google
We had my birthday roast here, and it was a blast! They had their own sound system and projector that easily worked for our needs. The bartenders helping us that night made sure it was awesome, really making the whole night special. We love visiting on normal nights too—especially their vinyl nights! Definitely one of the best breweries in Ballard!

Google
I love Obec and they have one of the best beers 🍻 🙌 so smooth and fresh! I have to drive 45 minutes to get there but it's so worth it! Yummy 😋

Czech style beers and other good stuff - love the unique beers

Yelp
Dog Friendly with great beer and drink selection - OPEC Brewing is 5/5 Experience! OPEC has inside as well as a large outdoor seating area with Serious Pie Pizza across the street as well as Food Trucks- What more can you ask for? Service is great and Willa made some excellent recommendations. I ordered the Hugo, a Champagne cocktail, that was so refreshing, I had to order a second! The rest of our party ordered various beers and gave good reviews. Ambiance is welcoming and very casual with dog bowls & treats and a couple shelves of board games. Seattle has a lot of Breweries - I highly recommend Obec Brewing when you're in the area for well-crafted brews and fun, friendly vibe.

Yelp
Stumbled into Obec one afternoon in the Ballard Brewery District when I realized that I hadn't yet visited this brewery. I was very pleasantly suprised to see pilsners on their menu. Pilsners and Kolsch's are my favorite beer styles, they're simple, but hard to get right. "American" pilsners tend to be too hoppy or add flavors that just shouldn't be present in a pilsner ... I prefer traditional pilsners and Obec gets them very right. If you are a fan of low-gravity beers or are bored with IPAs, get yourself to Obec and order their superb Czech Pilsner. You won't be disppointed.
google avatar

Lucas W.

Yelp
Kinda hard for me to review. I don't like IPAs or hoppy beers, so I love a diverse menu. Belgian beers are my favorite but I like a wide variety of beers...just not IPAs. So when I saw Obec's menu, i was really impressed and really excited for their takes on some belgian and stout beers that sounded amazing. They had some great sounding other non-pale ales too. However, when we showed up, which I admit was only late afternoon on a weekday, I was disappointed to find the taplist that day was actually full of stuff I'm not interested in. They had some great beers in large format bottles but not something for one person visiting a tap room on an afternoon. I would love to try again and go back and hope that the tap list when I went was just unlucky.

Yelp
Came for father's day and enjoyed this dog-friendly brewery despite my hangover (sorry, dad). Lucky for me they have a couple NA bevs on their menu (hair of the dog was not what I needed), and the raspberry lemon shrub was tasty and refreshing. The Czech dark and the Porter I tasted were also really good. Assortment of sizes to choose from, and you can of course customize a flight. Plenty of seating inside and out on their mostly covered patio. Food trucks for food treats as well. What's not to like?
google avatar

Mary V.

Yelp
Excellent selection of main Czech beers. The Czech dark lager was truly amazing! Nice, friendly atmosphere with plenty of comfortable outdoor seating. Employees were very accommodating. Water jug with cups and dog bowls available inside, too. Obviously this brewery is very dog friendly. With so many breweries in this general vicinity, Obec is a stand-out. You'll want to stop here - especially if you like non-IPA beers. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Oh Obec. Beers and breweries are my thing but this one is just bland to me for some reason. In my matching visits here they both were lukewarm, best I can describe it. I asked for sample off the menu on my initial visit and the staff doing pours seemed surprised I'd ask that, then further seemed bothered by the request. I thought this was almost a routine thing at breweries and I purposely try not to overdo it. I decided to dive into a beer straight into a beer on the return visit and skip sampling, a young lady this time seemed equally drab about doing pours. Maybe it was kind of late? Brewery was still pretty full though, well before last call. The selection seems small here, small but mighty is the aim perhaps? The porter 3 and Grant amber lager were the best I've had here but found them to be average. The look of Obec is nice though, it has a homey, brown decor and nice indoor-outdoor seating so that's a plus. Food truck is frequently outside waiting which is always good. I don't wanna say I won't come back, but Obec otherwise just seems to lag where all the other brew spots in the area are on full cruise. There are functions and events that have sounded interesting that take place here but when there lots of options around, interest fades.
google avatar

Declan H.

Yelp
Very cozy brewery. I don't love the flavor profile of most of their beers, but they are still good quality and I stop by whenever there is a makers fair or other such event happening in the area.
google avatar

Chris R.

Yelp
Only real Czech Pilsner in Seattle. This is important, because when you can get it imported, it's not fresh. When I crave the real thing, which is frequent, no place else will do.
google avatar

Gary W.

Yelp
Was down in this side of town and wanted to try it out. The atmosphere is great here and as comfortable inside as well as outside on the covered patio. I'm into Czech Pilsners as I've been for quite a few years and finding it's becoming trendy as the replacement for the hazy beer craze. I like the beer at Obec and although I've not had but a few, I can tell they are doing it right. Definitely, if you're in the area checking out the other breweries, this is a place you should stop by and have a beer.
google avatar

Jaime U.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, staff, and menu. I'm not much of a beer drinker, but that's OK. They had plenty of other options to accommodate. Went there for a party in the back room was the perfect space.

Yelp
A wonderful, down-to-earth and community-focused business! I came clear from Lakewood (the South one!) to experience Obec and I was not even a little bit sorry. Everyone from the staff-in-training to the owners are delightful and excited about their beer, their community, and their customer's experience. Being Czech lineage, there's not a ton of representation and it was so cool to see a familiar word - Obec being a blend of "community" and "family" in translation (literally a municipality, but it's meaning goes deeper) ... it's wonderful to see my own heritage reflected here. Grab the Holiday brews while you can!! Worth every penny. See you soon, Obec!
google avatar

Pratima M.

Yelp
A cute little brewery that's tucked into a corner of Ballard -- it's located next to a ton of others, which makes it a great spot for brewery hopping! Obec has a ton of indoor seating as well as a large, outdoor patio complete with string lights. My friends and I stopped by to grab a beer and it was a great time! The bartenders were all super chill, sweet, and helpful. I loved the IPAs they had and will definitely be back to try more. Added bonus: they also have Serious Pie across the street to grab a quick bite to eat!
google avatar

Yelp
Good outdoor venue, selection of beers and usually a decent food truck outside. Great place to hang out summer or winter.

Yelp
COVID review: Obec Brewing has made many COVID modifications to their brewery that always make me feel safe. Upon arrival, they hand you their current guidelines they are following and direct you to a clean table. They have arrows to go in and order and another route to exit with your drinks. When you order beers, only one person is allowed in from your table, you pay immediately, and then bring the beers back to your table. When you do pay, there is a clear glass between you and the beer-tender. When you are done at your table, you flip a placard over that signals that your table needs to be cleaned before another person can sit there. Overall, I think Obec Brewing has done a great job with changing their layout and continue to make solid beers. They are still dog-friendly and have many tents and heaters set up for the winter too.
google avatar

Ting W.

Yelp
This place has a great outdoor patio selection that accommodates groups of 6. They allow for only a few people into the brewery to order and exit out one section of the brewery. But I understand this a new operation for them during COVID time, and you'd have to bus your own table when you are done with your glass. What I like about the local brewery is their ciders and seasonal beers. You can order a pint size or get to create your own sample of 4oz brew board. I usually go for a sample, of light to dark. The classic porter is creamy and dark with hints of coffee taste. You can also access other local breweries nearby the area if you want to get a taste of what Seattle has to offer. Super convenient . They do not offer food, but you are allowed to bring your own food in. Sometimes they have food trucks outside around the blocks at other breweries.

Yelp
Wonderful people and kindness. Lost an earring down under their patio and they didn't just help us, they pulled out the drill to pull up boards and try and find it.

Yelp
Allows outside food, great beer! What more do we need to ask?! Highly recommend, pet friendly as well

Yelp
Eastern brew with nw flav but unfortunately the staff is incredibly conceited. I have asked them x2!how their flights work and they draw you into their instructions like a jerk. Learn how to communicate. Children protect d by a mother bearing b

Yelp
The funny thing, and an important disclaimer, is that I didn't even try their beer. This review is for their non-alcoholic shrubs!! I am currently obsessed with shrubs a drinking vinegar typically made with fruits and sugar. I've started making them at home, but still like trying them when out and about, especially for flavor ideas. White Peach Ginger $5: So so good. You definitely taste the ginger, but you still have the vinegary flavor too so it is different than say ginger beer. I actually went to the farmers market the next day wanting to try to recreate this at home, but couldn't find any peaches. Raspberry Lime $5: This one did not have as much vinegar flavor so I wasn't as impressed. I probably won't rush to make a raspberry shrub anytime soon. ***** My Star Ratings: 1 Star - Terrible. Just thinking about it makes me angry. 2 Stars - Meh. Unlikely for me to return. 3 Stars - OK. Open to coming back, but wouldn't go out of my way to. 4 Stars - Yummy! Will definitely return if I haven't already. 5 Stars - AMAZING!!! Would plan my day or even a trip around eating here.

Michael R.

Yelp
Best brewery in Seattle! By far the best beer selection - especially if you like some dark beers on the menu! Czech beers offer it all! Service is fine, food trucks will do. But if it's quality beer you're after, this place has it! Hands down!
google avatar

Yelp
Wanted to try some new breweries in the Ballard neighborhood and ended up coming to Obec (right next to Stoup Brewing).. there was no wait time and our group of 6 was seated immediately.. We ordered the Spring Seasonal Saison (the best) along with Catch In The Sun IPA and the Porter.. Honestly we loved all of these on our table.. they have huge outdoor heated seating and are pet friendly.. The owners are nice friendly and the entire space has a very casual comfy vibe.. You always have some food trucks in that area so you can grab a bite or order food from else where and have a great time at Obec..They are taking all the needed COVID safety measures and you will definitely feel safe during your visit here.. Will be back soon..

Yelp
I visited Obec during the recent Washington Beer Open House - it was my first time at this smaller tasting room featuring a wide variety of beers. I tried a flight of four, ranging from light to dark, along with a tasty sandwich from the food truck I found on site that day. Each beer was rich with its own flavor notes, though the English Pale was my favorite by far. The brewery atmosphere is very open, with a large indoor space and a smaller outdoor space. It was super crowded on the Saturday I visited, but I figured this was mostly due to the open house event. The service was pretty friendly, though I was a little annoyed to be shuffled off by an employee because someone had "reserved" a corner of the tasting room for a baby shower which was happening in an hour and an employee asked me to move when I was almost finished with my beer. I told her I just needed five minutes, but she made it clear by her attitude that she expected me to move immediately. I was kinda put off by this to be honest. Also I'm not sure about the wisdom of booking a private party on such a traditionally busy day.

Mike O.

Yelp
Great place to site outside, chill, and have a pint! Make sure to ask Devin for his recommendation. The English Bitter was delicious! I'll be back again soon!
google avatar

Alex N.

Yelp
Definitely a good place in Ballard to grab a beer or even cider. Drinks were good, they have a large outdoor seating area that I believe isn't all heated. I'd come back!
google avatar

Patrick S.

Yelp
Great brewery with delicious beer! Every time I go here I'm surprised I do not see it packed with people! They have a good interior with lots of seating options for groups small and large. They have a cupboard of games and are dog friendly. Each beer we tried did not disappoint! The Granat, IPA, Pilsner, and double IPA are all worth a try! They usually have ciders or spurs on top as well! On a sunny day you can enjoy their deck, but the inside is definitely the place to be! Service is friendly and informed. More people should check this place out before it gets too busy!
google avatar

Yelp
I always love when a new brewery opens up in Ballard, Seattle's craft brewing district. I was really excited to give Obec a try but it wasn't quite what I was expecting. Perhaps the style of the beer recipes aren't quite up my alley. I love beers with highly experimental type ingredients... ingredients and flavors that you don't typically associate with beer is exactly what I love. At Obec I got their Belgian Dubbel which I thought was just okay. It wasn't a very memorable beer in my opinion. When I was there it was very busy and the place seemed popular. I'm not too sure it it was because it was new or the patrons had other criteria being met on what kind of craft beer they enjoy... or maybe they just enjoyed. Perhaps trying a different one of their beers would have been more enjoyable.

Yelp
Obec brewing is a great location. It's definitely worthy of being part of a brewery crawl. First things first, they are dog friendly! The location is very spacious! It's also an open concept with TALL ceilings. They have a glass wall that allows for you to see how the beer is made! Which is cool. It's very clean and minimalistic. They have large long tables and you can even order pizza and chill with your pup while drinking brews! It makes for a really fun night with friends and strangers!
google avatar

Ryan K.

Yelp
Obec is one of my favorite spots for overall atmosphere out of the Ballard breweries! There's an incredible patio area with string lights (I must really be obsessed with string lights since almost every one of my Yelp reviews includes a comment like this) and modern atmosphere -- perfect spot for afternoon beers and food trucks with friends. They are pretty strict with Covid logistics, so you will feel totally safe during your visit. This is one Ballard brewery where they can't text you when a seat is open (most of the others nearby will add your name to the list and text when your table is available). At Obec you must stand outside and wait until you're called, so it's a little less flexible than the others, but it's worth the wait. Try the 6 ft. IPA (appropriately named, right?) and thank me later!
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
This brewery is right next to Stoup, which ends up being quite the competition. Instead of competing directly for the millennial crowd, Obec seems to be a little more "comfy & homey", and also a little less expensive. It was quieter and less crowded, and they allow dogs and even have some free treats for your pet! The beer was more of a European-craft style and just isn't for me, but I can recognize that they were good. I probably won't be back, but I'm glad I got to experience it.
google avatar

Kai E.

Yelp
The staff was super nice, the outdoor and indoor areas were spacious and clean, and they provide games. Obec is great for groups, allows dogs, and has a wonderful environment, but when I go to a brewery, I'm there for the beer. Sadly, the beers themselves were lackluster. We tried a couple different styles and they were really slow sippers, solely because of taste. Wanted to love ya. Sorry, Obec.
google avatar

Kathy S.

Yelp
One of my favorite breweries in Ballard hands down! Love the entire vibe and they have a great variety of beers on tap. The mercy is super cute too.

Michael L.

Yelp
A couple weeks ago I visited Obec. I had my laptop with me connected to their wifi network for internet. my laptop security was indicating the wifi network was not protected. You would think a business would want to know, so they can have their IT person review the network. I mention to the "manager" I think your wireless network is unsecured. You might want your IT person to review to ensure no unauthorized access, intrusion, hacking. I am expecting I'll hear "hey buddy, thanks for letting me know. I'll have our IT person review it." Nope! the "manager" turns angry. Accuses me of hacking the network. (no, I did not hack the network.) kicks me out. no good deed goes unpunished at Obec. The Czech beer is good! 8/12/2022 thank you for reaching out. of course, he had a difference experience. isn't that usually the case that the manager has a different experience from the customer? i don't have hacking skills. i don't work in IT. I don't really see the point after being accused of hacking. i would encourage people to visit Obec. the beer is good. they spin vinyl records on Thursday (?) night. you can bring in your own vinyl.

Yelp
This place is awesome! Good sized patio and a lot of seats inside. Good theme. Very friendly bartenders! Awesome beer.

Yelp
A major feature of our two-week road trip from San Francisco to Seattle has been visits to some of the highly-regarded breweries along our meandering path. Obec is one of the top 2-3 brewers among the two dozen or so we visited. My favorite beers here were the English pale ale, the English bitter, and an astonishingly smooth double IPA. Adding to the enjoyment were the hospitality of the super friendly beertenders and spectacular brisket and Cubano sandwiches from the 'Wich Wagon food truck. Come back to Chicago with me!
google avatar

Shane G.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of Obec and it's always one of my go-to recommendations for people looking to try some of the breweries in the neighborhood. The owners and staff are incredibly friendly and hospitable; the beer is amazing (current favorite I think is the Summer Saison); and the patio is awesome right now. I also appreciate how seriously they've been taking recent events. I definitely feel safe when I'm there.
google avatar

Marguerite C.

Yelp
Obec has been our regular hangout since i met my fiance, and he'd been coming around since they opened! They pivoted for COVID and made up a new system for seating and all that. Their staff is happily vaccinated and it feels careful and safe. There's always dog-watching and a food truck around (plus a couple more nearby at the other breweries on the street). The owners and waitstaff aim for the friendly and familiar vibe i love. Drinks: my favorite is likely the check pils. They make tasty granat as well. I'm not usually as big on their IPA selections as they tend toward big hop flavors over my preferred citrus-forward ones (it's seattle, we all have IPApinions). They do have a couple of wine choices and tasty non-alcoholic shrubs as well. Great spot to hang out and sling some cards or have a snack in Ballard. I wish it wasn't going to be summer soon cause i need to pick up one of their flannel shirts. i'll keep my eyes peeled for a big tank top instead
google avatar

Stephanie S.

Yelp
I liked this brewery a lot. Lots of great beers. I tried the rye and I had the Pils. It was crisp and light, a perfect Pils. The space is large and it looked like they also have an outdoor spot during nice days. Staff were friendly, beers were priced well. It is also dog friendly. I would definitely recommend a stop by for some delicious beers, especially the Pils!
google avatar

Ss S.

Yelp
I just tried their cider which was OK. It wasn't anything that stood out from other ciders. We felt pretty safe as everyone socially-distanced. There were two food trucks right outside. The wait was only about 10 minutes.
google avatar

Monica S.

Yelp
Such an awesome new brewery in the Ballard area! Obec has a solid list of beers, a fun cozy ambiance, and a great selection of food trucks that keeps the food interesting. The staff is so friendly and welcoming, they really add to the fun atmosphere of this place. I've had a number of their delicious beers and there is a wide range for beers for different palettes. They have a handful of board games, and allow dogs, but no babies! Definitely worth a stop at your next Ballard bar crawl.
google avatar

Julia C.

Yelp
We came on New Year's Eve, around 4 pm, beers were good but staff were super unfriendly. Asked for a recommendation between two of the beers and the staff seemed incredibly annoyed. There was only one other group in there so it wasn't as if I was slowing down the pace.. with my one question... Maybe just a bad day for the staff? I really liked the big tables and space though, and again the beers were very good. I'll go again & hopefully catch them on a better day, but it doesn't feel good giving your money to someone who's annoyed you're there.

Yelp
Hate to write a negative review based on one employee, but we had a pretty awful experience with our hostess at Obec. I showed up with my wife (who's 8 months pregnant) primarily because we wanted a bowl of ramen from the food truck. We stood in line for 15 minutes waiting for ramen and noticed a table was open on the outdoor patio for that entire period of time that we were in line. It wasn't the only available table, but it was right by the line for food, so I told my wife to grab a seat while I ordered so she could get off her feet. So she sat at the table, but didn't check in with the hostess before doing so. I figured I'd just check in after I ordered. Since my wife wasn't ordering beer and there were open spots and no apparent line, she didn't think twice about taking a seat without asking first. Definitely understand now that my wife shouldn't have sat down without checking in during the times of Covid. I'm sure it's hard to run a brewery right now. So that's our fault. The signs were clear and we should have just followed the rules. But when the hostess came over she gave my pregnant wife a ton of attitude for sitting down without asking. My wife was super apologetic when she realized it was an issue, so the attitude was totally unnecessary. If we had any idea that it would have caused an uproar, we wouldn't have done it. We would have just checked in. As soon as I ordered the ramen, I went to check in with the hostess (probably 3 minutes later) to tell her we had snagged a table. I didn't know that the hostess had just given my wife a hard time; I just wanted to check in to make sure all was good. I also got a ton of attitude despite being super super apologetic when I realized it was a big deal. Extremely condescending attitude from the hostess even though I wasn't at all confrontational and explained that she sat down because she was pregnant, tired, and didn't plan to order a drink. Hostess even tried to tell me that she had to "bump people off the waitlist" because we skipped the line, which was not true because that table was open for 15 minutes, other tables were still open, and I could see her waitlist and all the names were crossed off. And even if it was true, all she had to do was politely inform us that we cut the line and we would have gladly apologized profusely and given up our spot. Of course she didn't do that because she was lying. Honestly, the bartender was nice and my Pilsner was good. I also like the outdoor seating area. Hence 2 stars instead of 1. If I hadn't encountered the rude hostess, probably would have been 4 stars or so. But the rude reception we received was just unacceptable. When you can look across the parking lot and see Stoup and Urban Family, why come to a brewery that bullies a fully vaccinated pregnant woman for mistakenly sitting at an open table and then apologizing about it? Ballard has too many good breweries; take your business elsewhere.

Yelp
This place was interesting but the beer just wasn't to my taste. Pros? Really friendly owners Knowledgeable staff Interesting beer choices Happy to give samples Nice view of the brewing area Cons? Just didn't have my taste of beers ... too quick or dry or something that just didn't sit with me
google avatar

Tracy A.

Yelp
I'm a fan of the global style brews. All of them. They also have a cider choice and interesting vermouth and soda. The Ballard location is optimal in that they share the street with a couple of other breweries as well as Serious Pie. So, you could spend the better part of a day hopping between between the breweries, ordering from Serious pie, and or grabbing food at one or two of the food trucks in between all of it. I really like the aesthetics of Obec. The graphics on the building and on there merchandise is sleek and artistic with clean lines and sharp artistry. During Covid they have an almost military precision in execution of people in people out. You put your name in out front. Once you've gained entry, the seating is outside, and it's one person in per party at a time entering one way, following the arrows, and exiting one way back outside to your seat. The outside area has high tables and picnic tables. Honestly, I didn't feel the high table was very comfortable. We were on a slant on the asphalt, the table kept rolling, and the chairs weren't very comfortable. We didn't have the opportunity to be choosey, as we had already waited a half hour just to get in. It was a sunny, hot, busy Sunday afternoon.

Yelp
I went to Seattle for my birthday. Before I went I did a little research for breweries and this one got my attention immediately and didn't disappoint. Prices are very fair and the beers are great. Great selection for every taste. Lots of space were to sit. I only wish I could find their beer here in SD :(
google avatar

Megan S.

Yelp
We came in here on a Sunday afternoon. The bartender refused to serve someone in our party, accusing him of using a fake WA ID. The individual was well over 21 years old, the ID was valid and it had recently been issued. The servers need to get familiar with what WA IDs look like and be familiar with changes to IDs over time. I'm sad this happened because I've been here a few times in the past and have always liked it. This treatment was unacceptable.

Yelp
Walked in around 8 on a Friday and the place slowly picked up once as the night went on. Cool warehouse vibe that most breweries around here have. Very cozy with nice seating arrangements: patio type tables, four-tops, bar seating, bar tables, and this long cushioned bench seating situation. A specialty of theirs seems to be a flight of six small beers. When you walk in, there's a table with a sheet you fill out with all their beers on it (about ten). Pick six types and they fill you a flight. They are all solid beers at $2-$3 a piece for the flight.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our experience here- great service, a good selection of beers (and nice cider/wine choices for non beer drinkers like me!), and a lovely patio to enjoy the sunshine. They also had a great food truck setup and a really laid back atmosphere that made us want to stay for another round. :)

Yelp
Obec definitely is a nice size brewery and no doubt the beers we had were good. We went to 4 breweries in the same area and this is the most empty one with just 6-7 people sitting inside. I am only giving 3 stars for the beers, wish I could zero stars to their customer service. The gentleman serving us the beers was not professional, did not bother to smile and definitely made it seem like we were bothering him by being there as customers. They definitely need to work on their customer service skills other than that they had decent beers.

Yelp
Obec is a newer brewery in the heart of Ballard in a great beer neighborhood located between Stoup and Reubens, and it's a great story about how a passion for beer making which started as a hobby has now turned into a full scale brewery. The founder started brewing years ago with a home kit gift from his now wife. His porter became very popular with friends, and over the years, Wayne has increased the quality and quantity of his beers through improvements in equipment and experience. Now Obetz is 10 barrel brewery with great selection of beers including many European classic styles such as an English porter, a Czech pils, and a Belgian Singel and Dubbel. Obetz also has IPAs, rye beers, etc, and they are solid as well, but I really appreciated their focus on European styles, albeit with a nice Seattle touch. They offer tasting flights at a very reasonable price, which is a great introduction to their beers before settling down with your favorite one or two or three. Obetz means "community" in Czech, and you definitely get a sense of it here. From the communal table to the facing booths in a large open space, it's a great place for groups. While they do not have a kitchen, they do have a great rotation of food trucks, and on my visit, I was able to re-live my college days with some East Coast styled grinders - chicken parm and a cheese steak! Seattle and especially Ballard is blessed with many great breweries. And Obetz is one that made the beer scene even better. Definitely a great place to sample many new beers - come with old friends or make new ones, and enjoy!
