"This modern sushi and ramen hot spot has quickly expanded in Arizona from one location to three since opening in North Scottsdale in 2017. Its high-end atmosphere makes for a perfect date-night destination, so long as you can find a polite way to slurp your noodles. Start with the papaya salad or crispy tuna. Then you can’t go wrong with the spicy, namesake Obon ramen made with spicy red miso, chicken, pork belly, black and red garlic oil, bonito flakes, and egg." - Jamie Killin

Obon Kyle, you were the roll, the best ever. Your charm and smile really made us feel at home. Shion your team work with Kyle was far superior compared to so many teams, you were awesome as well.I am so happy that we all chose this particular sushi place to enjoy our family dinner. Wasabi relish and the scallops were my all-time favorite although everything was fresh and delicious. I should’ve waited to review everything until after I ate the most delicious Blondie dessert, now I’m going to explode. We loved our experience. Thank you. I WOULD RECOMMEND.

Really, really good. Try the watermelon soju. Yum! We got the pork and bird bao buns. I could have eaten them all night. So good. Crispy rice with tuna was nice. Poke bowl was huge! Really delicious, but could easily share. Tonkatsu Ramen was delish as well. Seems like anything on the menu would have been stellar.

I came here for lunch the other day and ordered the chicken teriyaki bowl. It was great, I loved the added mushrooms in the dish. Only thing I didn't love was that the chicken was deep friend and then sauced up. Could've done without the breaded chicken, made the meal feel less savory. The environment was great though - I'll probably go back and order from the Sushi menu next.

Went for the ramen had a great time. Food was very fresh and came out steaming hot. Worth the wait plan to spend some time here we got appetizers they made the wait easier and were portioned to perfection

This was definitely filling! The broth was rich, everything was so delicious. Everyone was friendly and nice. Didn’t like that they turned off all the lights midway through eating… was difficult to see what I was eating

My fiancée ordered the sea bass and I wished I had too! I saw it on the menu and was considering it but changed my mind and ordered poke which was very delicious! Food was exquisite! Will visit again but will try their ramen.

This place was just ok. I wasn't impressed with their sushi. My boyfriend wasn't thrilled with the chicken teriyaki either. It wasn't bad, but just didn't taste that fresh. I've had much much better sushi before. Wouldn't recommend.

Had a great experience. Food was wonderful and we had a sampling of nearly every section of the menu, an appetizer, sushi roll, ramen bowl and large entree. Would definetely recommend for a date night dinner. The staff was top tier in service. They made sure to keep our drinks filled and cleared plates quickly to ensure the was no clutter of dishes on the table If you want to bring someone that isn't necessarily into fish or sushi, recommend a ramen bowl or the Kanto Beef.

Yelp
Everything was great!! You won't be disappointed! Chicken teriyaki was excellent And the tempura sushi was great Salmon poke bowl was great also

Yelp
My experience at Obon Sushi Bar was mixed. The service and ambiance were trendy and attentive, which I appreciated. However, I only ordered the ramen and felt very indifferent about it. It didn't seem particularly fresh or special and was overly spicy. The pork was also flavorless and had a flaccid texture, lacking the crispy, well-cooked quality I was hoping for. Given this experience, I'm not sure I'll be returning to Obon. Perhaps their sushi is better, but the ramen just didn't hit the spot for me, so I can't recommend it based on my visit.

Yelp
Decided to try this place for a simple birthday dinner, we were seated immediately and the atmosphere was pleasant. Service was great, we really enjoyed our server & how attentive she was. We thought the menu was a bit underwhelming & prices for what you get are insane, I think the food lacked a lot of flavor. Definitely a good spot to try but I wouldn't come back. I had the Veggie Black Ramen: 6/10 -I thought the broth was lacking in flavor, veggies were great and I ordered the spice bomb to add flavor to it however I ended up using the whole serving of it & a few limes. I also ordered the california roll( not pictured) 7/10 The rolls were a bit uneven and fell apart quickly. My fiancée had quite a few dishes, first up he ordered the Yuzu Yellowtail 8/10 Next up he ordered Shishito Peppers 9/10, this was the best thing he had. I think this place would have a lot more potential if the food & flavors matched the prices!

Yelp
Obon was so good that we went twice this last week. I love the location being at Scottsdale Quarter, in the middle of the shopping and people watching. We braved the heat to sit on the patio and enjoyed a beautiful Scottsdale day. Our favorites: Tonkatsu Ramen with pork and the Bird Bao Bun (Korean fried chicken). I plan to return to try more bao buns, the trio of crispy rice, and the signature cocktails.

William M.

Yelp
A nice place that combines sushi with ramen and some very good speciality menu items that has plenty to satisfy everyone. Food quality was excellent, service was very good and the ambiance upscale, but comfortable. A standout was the Kanto Beef: flank steak with broccolini, onions, garlic in a sweet, slightly spicy sauce. As a side note, the excellent service dropped a notch when we were left waiting for the check to be processed for over 10 minutes, but I'll assume it was just a glitch. Yes, I'd definitely return! :)

Yelp
Food: the food was so good! The only regret that I have is not ordering more and trying more dishes! The sushi was a good amount of fish and rice and the salmon was so juicy and flavorful!!! They also had some fusion dishes that we tried which were their sandwhiches one was spam and the other was a porky belly! Sooooooo good! Service: the service was so good! Since we dined outside I truly believed we were going to be ignored but that was not the case! Our waters were always filled and we always saw our server checking in on us! Ambiance: when we arrived they were a bit busy indoors but it was such a perfect weather to eat outside so we dined on the patio. The partitions are perfect you get the perfect amount of outside

Yelp
Celebrated our anniversary! So a bit of nostalgia for us as we have not been here in a couple of years. And we wanted to relive one of our first dates. My boyfriend was not very adventurous with Asian cuisine but he has improved so much!!! We were able to explore of the menu and I have never been more proud of him. We started off with three of the four bao. We chose pork, chicken, and Jack fruit. Each bao was full of flavor, the meat was tender, and the bao itself was soft and perfectly steamed. We each got our own rolls and a hand roll. The fish was fresh and we never tried a hand roll before and we are major fans now! Then to finish off our meal we spilt the tonkotsu ramen. The shredded pork was beyond delicious and the broth was hot, creamy, salty, and just prefect umami. I'm so glad we were able to go back and re-experience this place. We will be back!

Nina T.

Yelp
For the price. I expected the food to be better. Service was OK. Very busy the crowd not too friendly with the kids as these sat next to some adults who were cursing all the time. Ramen comes with brother and protein everything else is extra. Almost $25-30 per entree.

Arpi H.

Yelp
I always walk by here but never have dined. I was intrigued from the outside of this establishment because it looked too fancy to dine during the day but I was wrong I should have checked it out earlier! I've been missing out on great ramen and sushi this whole time!! The inside can be a little tight so we opted to sit outside which was nice. The service was wonderful and so was the food! I don't remember the name of our server but he was super attentive and checked on us frequently which I appreciate especially on a busy night. We ordered ramen and a few rolls + the crispy calamari which is a must. Everything was full of flavor and delicious. I'm definitely coming back for more.

Mike L.

Yelp
Came by on a Saturday night at 8:00pm. Hostess was very kind in accommodating us as we showed up too early for our reservation. Glazed over the menu and went with the Obon, Tonkotsu, Original Ramen, Pressed Hamachi, Gyoza, Edamame, Cucumber Salad, and Nigiri of Uni & Hotate. The good: everything besides the ramen. We just couldn't enjoy the ramen as much as we wanted too. The broth was just not flavorful enough for our liking. What we really appreciated, was the stellar service! This is why I gave a higher rating.

Anika P.

Yelp
Great sushi, great chicken, and GREAT pork buns! The sushi here is fresh and delicious. Ambiance is excellent. This restaurant is nice and tastefully designed. Service was fantastic.

Doreen G.

Yelp
The food is mid par at best. We ordered the gyoza as an appetizer and I got the tonkotsu ramen. The ramen itself is very porky. The pork shredded meat has a slight metallic taste. The broth is OK, it very simple not that flavorful. The grilled pork slice is HUGE- in a not good way. It was extremely chewy and thick. They used a poach egg inside the ramen dish which is fine, but I was expecting a seasoned soft boiled egg as it's traditionally in Japanese ramen. The gyoza was good- nothing special. I also ordered the Pineapple Express drink. Absolutely delicious- I would order it again. Very strong and sweet. Topped off with a dried out pineapple slice. The service was good. I liked our server a lot! The environment here is nice- modern and simple. It is a small restaurant so there might be a wait on a Friday or Saturday night. The biggest con though is the fact that they only have one stall in their restroom. For a restaurant in Scottsdale quarter, I would expect more!

Rae T.

Yelp
Love Obon. This place has some really good Ramen. Their eggs aren't marinated and probably not the best place for an authentic Japanese marinade egg, overall the Ramen is still pretty good. AZ doesn't have the best track record for Asian cuisine so finding a place that has great ambience, clean and the food is tasty is always a plus! Their appetizers are always great too.

Diane R.

Yelp
Came here for happy hour one day around 4pm. It was not busy so we were sat right away... They brought back my favorite cocktail. It was in the menu a few years ago, gone for a bit, and now back so I was pretty excited. The good : cocktail, cucumber salad The meh: I think the price is a little expensive for the hand roll and specialty roll we had, but I guess they have to pay that Scottsdale quarter rent??? I'm not sure what it is about this place - they are good, but not really great. I would still go back for my drink and if it were convenient, but I never seem to seek out Obon.

Ed M.

Yelp
Sushi fix? This is the spot to get it at the Scottsdale Fashion Quarter. Sushi was nice and fresh. Patio seating available to enjoy the outdoor scene and for people watching.

Ellie Z.

Yelp
The bestie and I walked in around 1 on a Saturday. The place didn't look as busy as a 20 minute wait warranted, but we were still told it'd be a 20 minute wait. Anyway, we sat down along a wall with two other parties on either side of us, while the other corner of the restaurant was completely empty. Other tables could have had reservations for them, so I'm not going to deduct any points because of that. I'm just saying it would've been a more enjoyable experience - conversation wise - if we weren't sharing a bench with other people. However, that aspect was overlooked because the food was phenomenal! The bestie ordered the veggie ramen and I ordered the tonkotsu ramen. We also ordered crispy tuna and, safe to say, it's become one of our favorites if not our FAVORITE appetizer. It packed a nice flavor and the crispy rice was so soft, yet crispy lol. My friend loved her veggie ramen (coming from a girl who doesn't eat many veggies). I loved my tonkotsu ramen, and the portion sizes are great. The prices are steep, but it's worth it. I just don't know how people eat thick slabs of pork with only a pair of chopsticks. I had to ask for a fork and I wish I had asked for a knife as well because I still looked like Dash from the Incredibles trying to eat his steak with only a fork (iykyk). Anyway, everything was delicious and trust we will be back to try other items. And try their other location, which is closer anyway.

James Y.

Yelp
Food is great. I always get the spicy wings, bird bao bun, and street noodles. Service is also great every time I eat here. They seem to have a gnat problem. On 1/15/24, I was constantly shooing a gnat away from my food. Once I was done eating I realized it probably wasn't the same one. I looked at the back wall and saw it was covered in gnats. Left me feeling queasy. I recommend the food, but maybe sit outside if you go. Ironically, there are less bugs out there.

Paul K.

Yelp
One of the best sushi restaurants in all of Phoenix. Also fantastic drinks and other food options as well for people that don't eat sushi. I love the atmosphere. Best place at Biltmore. Bartenders and staff are friendly. Pro-tip: on weeknights they are not usually that busy-- so get there. Also- they have a great happy hour special on maki rolls.

Dani C.

Yelp
Supah thick n juicy calamari, delicious tuna and asparagus roll & caterpillar rolls. Great service. Patio is a vibe :) Will return.

Beverlyhills K.

Yelp
Awful! Will never be back! Popped in for a quick happy hour. Service was so bad and it was dead. Happy hour items were charged at higher price or not discounted at all. Bartender wanted to argue about it. Definitely the worst customer service and overpriced on or off happy hour.

Paige X.

Yelp
I don't think I've ever had a good experience here. But tonight would top the bad experiences. The outdoor bar seems so inviting so it's tempting to go, but the food is just god awful. We each ordered a dish that we thought was safe and both were awful.we literally took one bite of each and asked for our check and the bartender a female brunette didn't even ask us if we liked our food just simply gave us our check. We still tipped kindly as it's not her fault but gosh honey get a clue.

Jay R.

Yelp
Great food and service. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. Would recommend, it's a must-visit for any ramen lover!

Ai C.

Yelp
Service was fantastic but the food was subpar. This is our second experience at Obon. The yellowtail starter was the best thing we ate. Ramen was just okay. Skip the Katsu sandwich.

Alyssa N.

Yelp
Came here for an ad hoc bite to eat after finishing up a movie date at the neighboring landmark. My date and I happened to stumble into this place during their happy hour (daily 3-5pm). We only ordered from their happy hour menu: miso soup, cucumber salad, sashimi (tuna, salmon, yellowtail), nigiri (albacore, salmon), and salmon roll. Service was great. Our waiter was attentive but not overbearing. He was also very accommodating: he brought me minced wasabi and wasabi paste, adjusted the outdoor heater for me, and also brought me a side of a ginger/wasabi sauce (?) that came on the albacore. There was not a single grain of rice left on our table. We devoured our entire meal. Safe to say we enjoyed the good. Some highlights: - cucumber salad-- great flavor, refreshing, crunchy. I'm used to cucumber salads being doused in sesame oil, and OBON's take on the salad was much more original: concentrates of ginger, bits of spice. I didn't even taste any sesame. It was delicious! - minced wasabi-- fresh, crunchy bits of wasabi. adds a nice texture to each bite! highly recommend - salmon nigiri/sashimi/roll-- yes, yes, yes! - pineapple soju-- super sweet, but I enjoyed it - patio -- perfect for a sunday, spring evening

Charles D.

Yelp
My daughter recommended this restaurant. Place was clean and server was attentive until it got busy. We started off with the Pork Bun which my wife loved. I ordered the Cucumber Salad which had crispy garlic which appeared grounded with chili oil. We split a Kirin beer and my wife ordered the Original ramen which she enjoyed and I tried the noodles which was OK. I had the Tonkatsu Ramen which was spicy,4/10, left my lips with a comfortable burning sensation. If you like spicy, this place is for you. Used to like spicy foods, but as I grow older it becomes less tolerable.

Ronne R.

Yelp
Good sushi, a little limited on the amount of rolls. However several of the specialty rolls were awesome. Nice outdoor seating good service. Enjoy.

Von D.

Yelp
Traveling for work and wanted ramen for dinner. Found this place in a bustling shopping center. Great atmosphere with hip music and outside seating at the bar. Ordered the Obon soju alcohol, fried chicken bao and the Obon ramen. The fried chicken bao was uniquely delicious. The watermelon infused soju was yummy, the ramen had just the right spiciness to the broth, and it was not overly salty. My tongue did not feel salty afterwards. I don't like my food salty, so this place will be on my list to go to next time I'm in town.

Karen M.

Yelp
This is our THREE-YEAR GO TO FOR TRULY FRESH, GREAT PRICED ASIAN FOOD. We usually sit at the bar, where Spencer will take care of you like a charm - quick, responsive and kind! How can you go wrong? And the ambiance is great. We like this Oban much better than the other one here in Scottsdale, and will keep coming back. Best Ramen in Scottsdale, and the best happy hour, too. Stay great, Oban!!

Gwen W.

Yelp
Very overpriced and underwhelming menu. There are only 4 "specialty" rolls to choose from, we got two and there wasn't anything special about them except for the price. The Shrimp tempura roll was half the size and twice the price compared to other places. We got the bill & realized it cost $37 for two 5oz. glasses of wine! Seating was uncomfortable and the service clearly uninterested. Our last roll hadn't come out yet by the time we were all finished so I waved someone down and asked to cancel it. Five minutes later it came out anyway. With a sushi joint on every corner, skip this one. You're paying for the location.

Ashley C.

Yelp
My husband and I went to em this restaurant late last Friday at the start of their late night happy hour. It took a second to be greeted, despite different staff members looking directly at us. Once we were seated, the sever greeted us and was pleasant. The food we ordered was all delicious, no complaints about that at all. When we were done, we sat there for awhile waiting for our server to return with our checks. He never did, so we finally asked the two workers that were standing within viewing from the dinning room, talking to each other. Again the server was pleasant and was by no means rude or off putting when he was present , however the customer service would be my only drawback from our experience. This restaurant is also in Tucson, so I'm eager to try it again there.

AA A.

Yelp
This was the worst sushi that I've ever tried. Horrible quality, very fishy and the crispy tuna was hard as a rock. I won't be returning

Ezekiel C.

Yelp
So my family and I showed up here and they would not sit us, albeit about 45 minutes till closing. But when your closing time says 9:00 then you close at 9:00, not 8:15. We had just come from a family photoshoot and had kids and everything! So as far as quality of food I cannot attest because we weren't even given the chance to try. Way to put the customer first OBON, very classy.

Chris A.

Yelp
Wowowow!! This place was great!! My cousin was very excited to show me this place, cuz I'm= a connoisseur of ramen, obviously. And I am so glad that she did cuz wow, this place was fantastic. Not only was our waiter timely, composed, and personable, but also so nice. He knew exactly when to ask if anything was needed, or when to tend to us. A++++!! Unfortunately, I don't know his name, which is so upsetting cuz I wanna give appreciation where it's due, but if you see a guy who is effervescent with some piercings, request his table!! Anyways, as far as the food goes...it was fine. JK it was absolutely delicious! My cousin ordered the gyoza and edamame, which were both great! Not necessarily something to 'write home about', but great in their own respects. The ramen though.... the ramen. For a place that typically regards itself as a "sushi. ramen. sake." place, the ramen is definitely a star! I decided to go with the 'Original' ramen, to get a good feel for their version of ramen. And, boy-o-boy did it not disappoint! It had a hint of heat, from Fresno Chilis" that'll make you blush. Take into consideration that I did not try the sushi, but the ramen is all the salty goodness you've been craving....

Hendo H.

Yelp
Such a great location and well constructed. The place appears high end and fits into the area. The sushi rolls were small and lacked flavor or depth. The fried rice was equally as bland. I would recommend the calamari! Crispy sticks with a tasty aioli. Service was good and attentive. I wish the food matched the charm and character of this establishment

Melanie P.

Yelp
We were here on a wed night, there was a 20 minute wait for a table for two. We didn't bring our baby this time so we sat at the bar. No wait. It was full service ask we were able to eat at the bar as well. I got the kung fu pandan and it was delicious! I got the tonkotsu ramen and danny got the house ramen. Totally recommend!

Katie M.

Yelp
We came here the other night for my nieces bday. Lack of gluten free options is very well there. Lol would of be cool if they offered a gluten free ramen like other ramen spots sure but it's ok bc I had the steak and that was pretty tasty and our server was pretty great and helping me with what I can enjoy and can't(extremely limited like three things). Is it over priced? oh very much lol. So pretty much our entire table all had Ramen, sushi, Goyoza, the salmon and teriyaki chicken. Everyone enjoyed the food so that's good. It was just fun to enjoy dinner with the whole family in my eyes..def a place for for a bday party date night not a place u can come All the time to but yeah we will be back

Taylor K.

Yelp
Sat at the bar on a late afternoon and was pleasantly surprised. The gyoza was dank. And the noodle bowl was also really good. Very flavorful. My mom loved their cocktails as well. The bar tender was putting on a show it was fun to watch. He gave his input on what to order- helpful. It wasn't too busy or too loud even though the mall was insane outside. Would defs come back!

Cindy L.

Yelp

Yelp
Great restaurant and wonderful atmosphere. We went in for sushi and some cocktails. They do have a full bar but they also have speciality cocktails that were all great. For sushi, we got the basics, spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and also got the shrimp tempura. They were all delicious and you can tell the salmon and tuna were fresh. This was the first time in a long time where I had fresh, flavorful sushi. Service was impeccable. The young gentleman that served us our food was always checking up on us and ensured our needs were met. Definitely recommend this place and will definitely come back soon.

Erin Tevis T.

Yelp
Pros great service clean environment and good food. Cons pricey and food takes a minute to come out.

Sarah S.

Yelp
We love coming to Obon but today our Ramen was just not great. We started off sitting outside on the lovely patio... server was very nice. We ordered 1 rainbow roll, 5 pieces of salmon sashimi, 2 iced teas, a Tonkatsu Ramen and the Veggie Ramen. No alcohol... no apps and with tip it cost over $100! Sure the fish was fresh... but that just wasn't worth the money at all. And then to top it off the ramen was lacking flavor today. A little disappointed. But it's all very visually pleasing and the restaurant itself is nice and clean to dine in.

Jenny Y.

Yelp
We happened to be in town for hubby work. This place was walking distance to put hotel. It was pretty empty when we came in. Scallops Fatty salmon Uni - not sweet.. on the bitter side Pork belly bun - Veggie white ramen was pretty tasty.. light and flavorful The cucumber salad wasn't tasty. It was pretty bland. The sushi just tasted okay. It was fresh but not the best grade. We had like gnats flying around us... it was kinda annoying trying to wave off the gnats.

Samantha W.

Yelp
One of the best sushi restaurants I've been to in Scottsdale, OBON's sexy atmosphere and good food will have you returning again and again. It's on the pricier side but definitely worth it. I would argue that they have a limited sushi roll selection, but they do have many of the basics and you can't go wrong with any of their four signature rolls. My favorite is the Hafu roll, which is a spicy tuna roll with salmon and onion. The Fukushu and Tataki Maki were also great, and the Shiro Maki was good but has a very distinct citrus-y taste that some may not like. We also shared the rainbow poke salad which is made with tuna, salmon, yellowtail, and shrimp on a bed of greens (or rice, if you choose), seaweed salad, cucumbers, avocado, and wakame with a delicious dressing. I returned recently and got to try the amazing obon edamame and crispy tuna. The ramen that our neighbors ordered looked great and I can't wait to try it for myself next time. They were kind of weird about seating and I understand that limited seating is likely due to short staffing, but the hostess was a bit rude; she walked away from the stand when we were trying to speak to her. Also, the lychee martinis we ordered were an off-menu request but didn't taste like lychee at all.

Madison M.

Yelp
Everything was great! Food came out quick and our server was on top of things. The crispy tuna bites weren't too crispy and a little chewy, but the flavor was great. 100% recommend the yellowtail and the Pineapple Express (pictured) once it gets a little later they turn the lights down for a very moody and chill vibe. Loved it!

Madison S.

Yelp
The ramen is great but every single time the host is nowhere to be found. They finally arrive and then tell you there is a 15-20 minute wait when there are multiple open tables, only to seat you at one of the same tables that was open when you arrived. The experience getting sat is always very bizarre and off putting.

Nathan W.

Yelp
Really great ramen place, amazing service and great food. It's a little on the expensive side but still a delicious place to eat. Really cool atmosphere and totally worth your time. Great for dates and it's in a fun area of town. I had Obon Ramen at the suggestion of the bartender Shannon. She was right it was excellent. Spicy, savory, and sweet, amazing complex flavors and the broth is so good I could drink it by its self. If you have a chance definitely check this place out. I will certainly be returning for Ramen.

Ana-Gabriella C.

Yelp
One of Hubby and I's fave ramen/sushi spots. When I come alone, I try and grab a seat at the bar and the bartenders have all been so great and efficient as I'm usually in and out in under 45 min. Love love love their tonkotsu ramen and gyoza!

Lysa A.

Yelp
Amazing ramen and boa buns!!! DELSIH, 10/10 Recommend. Service is great and food is even better

Ashley G.

Yelp
Service was sub par. Restrooms were dirty and gave you a bad impression of the rest of the restaurants cleanliness. I'll be honest - I think Pei Wei has better food for the price. Our Spicy Salmon roll looked like a child rolled it and it fell apart when trying to dip it in soy sauce. No wasabi or ginger was provided. The only two good items were the edamame and gyozas but those two items are hard to mess up.

Caroline Y.

Yelp
The spot is really cute with a great happy hour! I recently visited Scottsdale and we sat on the patio for happy hour. The happy hour menu recently changed so check out my picture below for the most updated specials. We tried gyoza, jackfruit steamed bun, vegetarian black ramen, and two sushi rolls. We also ordered watermelon soju to drink (not pictured). The watermelon soju was on the sweet side but you could tell it was made with fresh watermelon. Dangerous because you can't even taste the alcohol! The Ramen was delicious! Ours came with a lot of veggies and the broth was very flavorful. Gyoza and steamed bun were great too. We tried a BBQ jackfruit steamed bun and you couldn't tell it was meatless. Sushi was good and rolls are $2 off during happy hour!
