Hands down the best hummus in the Bay, no contest. Elliot (a great dude and bona fide chickpea whisperer) runs this small local spot with a whole lot of love and clean, honest ingredients. The hummus is silky, bright, and properly garlicky; you’ll promise yourself “just one scoop” and then wonder where the tub went. If you’re hunting for the real deal, look no further!

I was really excited to try this place, especially after reading its glowing reviews. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite live up to my expectations. The toum was disappointing, the oil had separated, and instead of the smooth, thick emulsion it should be, it was runny. The hummus was fine but unremarkable, I’ve had much better elsewhere. The hot curry had potential, but the spices tasted raw, which could be how it was intended but it threw off the balance of flavors for me. The Zhoug had a strong cardamom presence that overpowered the other ingredients, though that might just be personal preference. At this price point, I was hoping for something extraordinary, but it felt more like an average hummus experience.

Went to the ferry building with my partner for his birthday on Sunday October 12th at 2pm. We LOVE hummus and saw the “free samples” sign and got really excited! When we walked up, we saw a man taking a chip out of a chip container on the counter and dipping it into one of the spreads, then he walked away. There was also a family next to us that was sampling hummus’. So naturally, my partner and I took two chips from the container to sample hummus’ (which tbh we probably would have bought because again, we love hummus). After we took the chips, the lady behind the counter looked at us, got really mad, raised her voice and said “THAT’s SO RUDE.” Clearly, my partner and I were very confused so I said “what?” She then proceeded to get really mad at us because apparently we weren’t supposed to take a chip from the open chip container next to the “feee samples” sign. I started to explain that we saw someone else take the chips, and just assumed that’s what we were supposed to do, and she scoffed at me and rolled her eyes. To be honest, I just can’t believe such an angry and mean person talked to us in that way, and it left my partner and I feeling pretty confused and upset on his birthday. Would not recommend going here and interacting with their employees.

I went on a day when the owner randomly happened to be there, I took a chance to ask for his favorite hummus and he said it was the zhoug, I read it has serrano in it and I said: sign me up!! All three were delicious but MY personal favorite is the curry one 😍 Silky, perfect level of spice, and some surprise flavors with the dill and sun-dried tomato, I want another jar! Perfect summer dinner with a handful of fresh veggies and a cup of iced tea or a glass of wine.

Google
Stellar hummus and toum! The staff are really nice and have great recommendations for what to pair with their products. It’s great quality and the flavors are fantastic. I think the Zhoug hummus is my favorite. Give them a try if you’re in the area!

Picked up 2 jars of this incredible product at the Ferry Building this week in SF! THE MOST delicious spread I’ve ever tried - and super friendly staff. 1000% would recommend and will be back!

Camryn C.

Google
Met kendall at a farmers market, we got to sample each flavor of hummus and they're all so delicious! The beet and berbere are my favorite. Definitely a must try if you're in the area

Google
Can’t recommend enough. Hands down the best hummus in the bay. Elliot is also super friendly and knowledgeable! Keep it up

Yelp
Second trip here, this time to take some home to Ohio in my insulated freezer bag. This time it was black bean hummus and hot Indian curry. Picked up my Costco Pita chips and hubby and I have been having snack night for dinner with Deep Eddy Grapefruit Vodka for dinner (helps get through the news). Last time we had beet, cilantro and plain hummus. I hate beets. I hate cilantro....I went back for more. Who knew beets and cilantro could taste so good. The black bean and the hot Indian curry were also delicious. Hubby wanted another "snack night"with the black bean andbtge curry hummus and this time it was for the hummus, not the alcohol. This place is conveniently located near Acme Bread. You won't find these flavors elsewhere. If you want to take some home, I had a 10 hour trip. My freezer bag etc kept my hummus cold in a checked bag. When I return in December, my Costco Pita chips are waiting me to return to Obour.

Yelp
Have been getting hummus, Garlic Toum and Pita Chips from Obour for the past 3 years or so- I love that they don't use seed oils in any of their products. The garlic toum is very versatile, it's great in sandwiches, etc. Their hummus is also excellent, I usually finish mine within two days. I also love their pita chips ( it's hard to find pita chips without canola or sunflower oil) I'm so happy Obour uses Olive Oil. Employees are always friendly too! Please check out their counter at the ferry building and support this business!!

Yelp
Obour Foods (OF) at the Ferry Building Plaza Marketplace is in a small corner stall inside the marketplace. I've run across the family owned and house made hummus at the Clement, Stonestown, Outer Sunset farmers markets, as well as the North Beach FM. OF offers a pricey, well made classic hummus with variations, as well as pita chips to accompany them. Staff is very nice, patient, and helpful with questions on the varieties of hummus. Yes try all the samples! Favs: * Classic Hummus * Black Bean Hummus * Zhoug Hummus * Hot Curry Hummus * Chipotle Hummus * Garlic Toum The Classic Hummus is an excellent basic hummus but when I want something different I'll pick up the other varieties. My favs are the BLACK BEAN, CHIPOTLE, ZHOUG and GARLIC TOUM. Really love the Garlic Toum because it's great on grilled or roasted meats. I'll pick up a rotisserie chicken, the Garlic Toum, and some veggies for a quick, hearty, tasty meal! Saving, untried, for my next visit is the Toasted Tahini. Wherever you find Obour Foods Hummus, pick up a few varieties and pita chips for snacks, light meal, and impromptu outings. See you there!

Yelp
Treat yourself to delicious Hummus, Toum or Tahini infused with spices. Skip the store bought stuff using inflammatory industrialized (ultra processed using high temps and solvents!) soybean or sunflower oils - and go for the more flavorful, natural and healthy option. At first your eyes will pop at the price which is almost double what regular store bought hummus would cost. But Obour uses ingredients of a much higher quality. Even more important, it passes the taste test. I've had "The Classic" and "Hot Curry" hummus. Both are excellent. Their products remind me of a Persian Ice Cream Shop in LA that uses an infusion of spices that you wouldn't expect, but make so much sense after you try them. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Creamy, garlicky heaven! Highly recommend trying their garlic toum or gochujang toum. The gochujang is faint, but the base is still delish. You can find their shop near an entrance within the Ferry Building. Not sure what to get? Help yourselves to sample as much hummus or toum as you want from their open trays. The owner even told us that when we return jars, we get a discount on the next purchase!

Yelp
Pricey but delicious, healthy hummus. They have a variety of unique flavors you can't find anywhere else, and the flavors are complex. Service is very good--you can sample different flavors and he was very helpful! Great location at the Ferry Building. There may be a line and the clientele seems to include both locals and tourists. I love the jars, too!

Yelp
I stumbled across this stand at the Belmont farmers market this morning. Jennifer was very knowledgeable about all the products, and I was able to sample everything. The garlic toum was amazing lol. I immediately said I was getting that. I know it's a spread, but I'm definitely using it on some steak or chicken tonight lol. The hummus was very good too. I got an original one. I didn't plan on going to that booth, but because of Jennifer's warm smile when I walked by, I thought I'd see what the hummus was about, and I'm glad I did. Thank you

Yelp
Dropped by on a lunch break and let the gent working know I was a huge hummus fan, but not sure of what I was looking for. He was super patient and conversational, and I walked away with two jars and some of their amazing toum which I could honestly put on anything. Pick up some bread from Acme 20 feet away and you have the perfect pairing.

Yelp
I found this place through TooGoodTo Go App. I had a day off and was able to take advantage of this pickup. Yah! Glad I did. I like Hummas like an average person that eats it once in a while. I wondered why people would pay $9 for just one jar of Hummas, when you can buy Hummas in grocery stores with mass production Hummas cost under $4 and is just ok. But this place which also shows up at farmers markets is an exception. Fresh and made locally in San Francisco with great quality and you can bring back the jar for a slight discount for you next order with them. :) Of all the Hummas I ate I rank this at number one. My second place will be oren's hummus restaurant with their fluffy pita. Yummy in my tummy for sure. I am eager to try the other flavors of Obour Foods flavors of Hummas. They even have spicy ones!

Yelp
I'm in love with their garlic spread. I can eat the whole tub and have garlic breath for a week. It is so creamy but i don't taste the cream, just the garlic. It needs to be refrigerated. It will keep only for one week. It's inside Ferry building. Near the entrance towards embarcadero. They open 10 to 4 pm.

Will S.

Yelp
Just got two containers of hummus. Best hummus we've ever had. Can't wait to spread the word to our friends back in North Carolina
google avatar

Jane D.

Yelp
The hummus here is packaged so well and is delicious! It's hard to find the stand inside the embarcadero building, it's located right next to one of the entrances. They have unique flavors and twists on hummus! I bought three and enjoyed the flavors. Will come back the next time I am in the ferry building and try their chips.

Yelp
Relatively new kiosk in the Ferry Building serving a multitude of uncommon hummus flavors. Unfortunately, it often seems closed so you'll have to rely on luck to buy any. Oh, and sometimes the hummus is partially frozen, which is weird, but a little thawing at home solves that. Zhoug Hummus: Wow, so much personality in this hummus. And a nice kick too. I guess I can abandon the old mantra that hummus is bland. A very intense flavor sensation, so a few scoops on a chip should be enough to satisfy your craving. Gochujang Hummus: Another hummus with much personality. I was expecting this to be really spicy, but instead it was very garlicky. Don't get me wrong, it did have a spicy kick, but it wasn't tongue numbing. Maybe all the chickpeas and tahini neutralize the gochujang a little? But the garlic was strong in this one and perfect for garlic lovers like myself. Though you might want to skip this if you have a meeting or a date later on. Pita Chips: Way better than most pita chips I've had. I think the difference is that they are baked, rather than fried, so they're not greasy. However, they still maintain a great crispiness. I especially love how the pita doesn't clump into one 2-ply piece, like many pita chips, but partially separates. So the single ply pita layer you can break off is flaky and light.

Yelp
Taste is amazing and quality can't be beat. Taste and quality explain the pricing. It is well worth the price and I need to go more frequently. I met the owner the other day and he is awesome. Definitely recommend and will be going more frequently to buy their products going forward. Must try this place. Love that you can bring back the plastic tub with addictive pita chips and the glass jars that contained the tahini, hummus, or toum and get a $1 off your next purchase. Happy to see incentives to recycle their packaging.

Yelp
We are such big big fans of Obour! From Berkeley Farmers' Market or San Ramon Farmers' Market and Ferry Building location, their products are not to be skipped. The pita chips and Toum classic are insanely good! We will definitely get some more to share with friends and family, for wine pairing at Thanksgiving and the holidays celebrations! Obourrific!!

Yelp
Great little stall for hummus, got to try all of the samples. The person working the stall was very chill and friendly too. Friend got chips and the beetroot hummus for a picnic.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent, yummy, beautiful vegan food. I am an omnivore but truly enjoyed this experience. Like someone else said, the Gochujang toum is delicious but not like the Korean pepper paste. It really complimented the blandness and chalkiness of the black beans in that hummus. I also liked the eggplant in the black bean hummus. Service with a smile in the beautiful ferry building.

Yelp
The first thing I say is when Obour Foods opened last Sunday, I couldn't wait to try its specials! It's one specialty foods I hit on before I missed. La Cocina use to make business in this spot every weekdays. Now that Obour Foods used this spot, it opened every weekends. It's a perfect moment to make my move. Before I had to buy one jar of normal hummus and a tub of pita chips, a friendly cashier asked me to try some samples. Why not?! Sampling new blend of herbs and spices was part of my adventure, like sailing into the Mediterranean Sea to travel from one ancient city to another. First sample: hot curry. This 4-point spicy hummus definitely knocks my skull after one bite size! Madras curry is what would be on my bucket list if I ever find one in my cuisine. Second sample: Zhoug. This second spicy hummus had a familiar hint of cardamom. After popping a hummus/pita chip into my mouth, whoa! That really burned a bit from inside my nostrils (not as brutal as wasabi). Zhoug spice is a must-try for adventurous consumers. The next day after I bought my jar of normal hummus, I had to finish a few spoonful at a time. It's best to keep it in the fridge after opening for best result. It'll start to ferment after another day.

Yelp
Had a bad experience with my product. Tried to be nice and contact them for a refund. Sent 3 emails on website and instagram. Sadly All my messages were not answered or acknowledged. There is no phone number to call.

Yelp
Love their organic 4-ingredient garlicky Toum with Pita Chips. Toum (translation garlic) is a staple in the Lebanese and Middle Eastern cuisine as it is the world's strongest garlic dip. This bold one-of-a kind heavenly condiment is gar-lick-y goodness and quite versatile in the kitchen. Creamy light texture akin to mascarpone with a pungent aroma of lemon and garlic, and a mouth-watering tongue-tingling flavor are a perfect union. Enjoyed very much as a dip and spread or by the spoonful to add a burst of allium to favorite indulgences. Wonderful balance goes exceptionally well with savory barbecue, or humdrum charcuterie. Vegan alternative to lackluster mayonnaise and perks up any sandwich or soup. "Most dear actors, eat no onions nor garlic, for we are utter sweet breath", William Shakespeare in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Unfortunately, as Shakespeare implies, garlic's smell is as potent as its taste, and can linger on diners for days. Deliciously addictive. Garlic is life!

Yelp
Let me just say that i didn't know these guys were here until i got a deal for their hummus. The guy working there was so friendly and welcoming and gave me 3 flavors of hummus to try. Let me tell you, so good and tasty that ill never look at hummus the same again. No more boring hummus!
google avatar

Yelp
Yes, this hummus is really good. But after several negative interactions with the person who runs the company, I cannot recommend giving this business your money, The owner is downright mean when he is confronted with problems from customers and employees. People need to make wise decisions with their money, and avoiding this place is one of them.
google avatar

Kevin C.

Yelp
Do not order ahead at this business. I placed an order through TooGoodToGo. They were closed during the pickup window even though it is during their business hours. And the only way to contact is by email. Waste of time :'(
google avatar

Cece Y.

Yelp
Good hummus, but pricey. I've tried the Classic, Berbere, and Black Bean hummuses. Bring the glass jar back to any of their farmers market locations for $1 off your next purchase.
google avatar

Joe P.

Yelp
Super delicious inspired hummus and toum! I've had all their versions of hummus a few times: Classic, Black Bean, Hot Curry, Zhoug, Berbere, and Red Beet, and everyone of them is spectacular (minus one of the aforementioned, which is very good, but doesn't get the "spectacular" rating imo). Get some bread at the nearby Acme, buy the delicious hummus at Obour, and sit at a nice bench with a beautiful view of the bay and dip and eat. Life will be good. Then at home, hard boil some eggs, slab some gochujang toum on it, and be in a great mood for the rest of the day! A bit pricey, but the value is there with the 5 star taste!

Dale W.

Yelp
Yum Yum. Yum Yum Yum Yum Yum Yum. I can't stop eating the chips and hummus. I also love that they incentivize recycling.
google avatar

Annie L.

Yelp
This place has a lot of potential and with their fresh, natural, and delicious ingredients could have rated a 5 except for the following which brought it down: -The pita chips, although baked (not fried) and nicely thin and crispy, were way overly salted. They were also overbaked to the point of having that bitter burnt taste! -the pita chips are way way overpriced being housed in one small takeout container which doesn't hold a lot of pita chips and overpriced at $4. I only bought them because there was no Hummus Heaven at this market and I told my son I would be bringing pita chips. I'll never come back here for pita chips because I can get 5 times as much and better tasting ones for the same price at Hummus Heaven! -they only have 3 flavors of hummus and although they are made with fresh and pure ingredients, they too are way overpriced at $9 for a small container. Other places have more flavors and the same fresh and pure ingredients for almost half the price! I don't think I'll be coming back here again because their products are so overpriced for what little you get and as I said above, the pita chips are overly salty to a fault and burnt. But they do have a lot of potential and their quality of food is great!
google avatar

Anna T.

Yelp
They do not have a brick and mortar but they sell and many Farmers Markets, including indoors at the Ferry Building. I only buy there Beet Hummus so I can't speak for anything else than that and I love it. I din't learn until quite a few purchases that they will give $1.00 off your next purchase if you bring the jar back. A good thing but now I have 4 sitting by my door.

Yelp
Love their products. Every one delicious. I never run out. Keep a good supply handy and vary. Try them. Spicy hot yummy

Gin C.

Yelp
I have gotten premade hummus before, and they don't usually taste that great. I saw the Too Good To Go deal and thought to try it. The staff behind the counter is so nice and explained their product based on my taste. I got 3 full sized glass jars and got to try the excellent hummus! I immediately had the hummus with bread the same night and thought it was just excellent. I would stop by again and recommend Obour to anyone!

Ailene H.

Yelp
I purchased hummus from this vendor at my local farmers market that fermented and exploded upon opening even though it was prior to the expiration date. This happened 4 times!!! Two different flavors were purchased that spoiled. I kept trying because I liked the product and thought maybe I'd try one more time. When I approached the owner about the issue, he was so rude and cavalier, basically didn't care that a consumer complained. He tried to blame my refrigerator. Of course nothing else has spoiled in my refrigerator! Someone who is selling a food product should be concerned about it's safety and shelf life and not giving a damn is not acceptable. I hope others speak up and hold him accountable. I also agree with some of the other reviewers about the chips. They are burnt and over salted.

Dave H.

Yelp
I agree with Elizabeth S. The owner is a real jerk. I called in about an issue and he was completely rude. No interest in supporting his business.

C J.

Yelp
A  jar of Obour hummus my friend gave me exploded.  When I contacted the company, the owner was not interested in resolving the situation.  Rather, he said I was rude for calling his attention to the unclear labeling on his product that contributed to the problem or wishing to discuss possible ways to prevent it from happening in the future. Other reviewers have mentioned similarly negative interactions. Save your money and give it to someone who actually cares about food safety and customers.

Yelp
Obour Foods makes hummus, tahini without the use of preservatives, canned beans, additives, colorings, citric acid....all stuff is natural. locale: Kensington Farmers Market(8/4) buys: fried pita chips(sm. 4) -pretty salty, infused with black pepper, other flavors, mucus builds up quickly so eating too many fried pita chips not good. hummus (9) -didn't taste any aftertaste of any kind. leftovers: -products can be sourced at various local gourmet groceries...
google avatar

Toni M.

Yelp
When I was at the Berkeley farmers' market last Saturday I passed Obour Foods on the way out. Intrigued, I picked up a container of the classic hummus. I looked at the pita chips but didn't buy them and when I later read the reviews I was glad I hadn't, because we avoid salty stuff and I don't liked burnt things. I had some of the hummus today w/ lunch, using baby carrots instead of pita, and it was delicious! It was tasty and nicely balanced, as good as the hummus we get from Jerusalem Organic or Zaytoon, though different, as everyone has his or her own recipe. I see from Victor G's review that they're also at the Kensington Farmers' market, so we could pick some up there when we're ready for more.

Yelp
Who doesn't love tahini and hummus? I don't know of that person, and I'm a fiend for this stuff plus anything mediterranean. This is not the hummus you'd find in a Safeway not the Sabri stuff, though there's nothing intrinsically wrong with it. But Obour is on another level, an entirely different sensual experience, almost a blended whipped concoction, super creamy with a ton of flavor and earthiness, a blend of sophisticated raw puree, beyond what you might ordinarily think of about garbanzo beans and sesame seed paste. Even if you don't like it, if you try this, you'll likely come away a convert, lol :-) So so rich and yet light, it begs for a dipping vehicle, e.g. not just pita but any kind of bread or chip or cracker. I think they'll let you taste, though I'm not certain because I didn't ask them. I just knew that I needed to get one of their bottles. Though they have many types, I got their basic, figuring I could also dress it up at home. Oooooh they also have Tuoum, which I adore and was initially introduced by a Mediterranean place called Mazra in San Bruno. These guys at Obour have two types: a garlic and also a chili. The prices are a bit higher than what you'd get at Safeway or something, but the taste? Oh man, one bite, and you'll never buy at a regular store again. Love love love. The service I got from the lady was also super friendly and welcoming, always a plus.

Laura C.

Yelp
I got three flavors - original, black bean and curry to try out. OMG the curry is amazing! This was the flavor I was most hesitant about, but it's overall my absolute favorite. Not only are these hummus flavors great with pita, but spread on a chicken sandwich, mixed up in a salad... they are great on everything!

Jim W.

Yelp
Best hummus ever! I remember when Elliot first started Obour: His commitment was always to to make the best tasting, highest quality, healthy Hummus on the planet. Supply was limited, and it was always a coveted event to score a batch. Thankfully, Obour survived the COVID and is now readily available.

Jacqueline Y.

Yelp
Overpriced hummus and chips with a side of rude service. After returning from a run along the Embarcadero, we decided to explore the Ferry Building and the farmers market given that it was Sat, June 3 around noon. I love the FB for its variety and selection! We were starving and so Obour was our first stop given that there was no line. The girl working the stand was obviously disinterested in selling anything let alone greeting anyone that visited. Luckily my bf wanted the easiest thing - plain hummus and chips. He was starving. She never looked up but punched in the order taking payment. She also scolded me for trying the various hummus types that were out to sample. There were no signs as to how you were to sample it and the first time she actually acknowledged us was to scold me for incorrectly sampling. For $15, the hummus and chips were no different than any I'd buy at Safeway. I just spent double for half as much. It was an overall horrible experience largely amplified by the rude customer service. If I were the manager of that stall I'd quickly replace the help as I'll never return to the stall because of her and will not be recommending friends to ever visit.

Victoria B.

Yelp
Very tasty and great that you can return the containers for them to reuse. (And for money off your next order).
