"The first time I stepped off a plane at what was then a fairly recently renovated and expanded Baltimore Washington International Airport, I was surprised—and pleased—to see an Obrycki’s restaurant right across from our gate. From the time I lived in Baltimore in the late ‘90s and early 2000s, I remembered Obrycki’s—known for its steamed crabs and the best and freshest crab cakes in town—as an institution in the city’s historic Fells Point neighborhood. Admittedly, I was skeptical that any airport version would live up to that reputation. But I gave it a go and was not disappointed, by either the blue crab cakes or the Bloody Marys. On the menu are plenty of other tasty options, from crab dip to Maryland crab soup, crab Benedict, burgers, and a variety of fresh seafood and non-seafood salads. With the original Obrycki’s in the city now gone, the restaurant acknowledges on its website the impossibility of duplicating its authentic crab house feel, but promises to maintain its authentic standards. So far so good. Fifteen years after our first visit, my husband and I always make sure to stop in anytime we fly through BWI. —Jeri Clausing, Afar contributor" - Michelle Baran

The crab cake was mid and pretty small for $33. My fries came out cold but my server gladly brought me some fresh ones when I complained. I also got a side of grits. Those were also mid. Other things my party ate that were also mid: chicken tenders, shrimp tacos. Tenders had too much breading and the tacos were filled with plain, bland shredded cabbage and only three smallish shrimp per taco.

Music was quite good and the atmosphere fun. The crab cakes however were mediocre to bad. I tried both the broiled and fried crab cakes. The broiled crab cake tasted like it came out of the microwave with bad rubbery texturing. The fried one had some of this but was slightly better but only slightly. The tater tots were okay but the ranch wasn’t very good. Adding lemon to the crab cakes made them much better. Broccoli was okay. Overall, this was disappointing.

I get it...its an airport, but, we went in and had the crab and shrimp flatbread, the crab cake with two sides, (tots and a house salad) and I have to say...I was not impressed. Being in an airport, we expected high prices...and we got them, but we did not expect everything to be so salty. Overpowered the flavors we were expecting. Simple presentation, the flavors were lacking, and it was too busy to connect with our server. He was hustling and moving about quite fast, but appeared to be overwhelmed a bit with the crowds, which came and went in surges. We were left disappointed unfortunately. Maybe you'll have better luck than us.

I got the crab roll with fries and it was absolutely delicious as well as quite large. Price is a little steep ($33 for the crab roll) based on my experience being in Baltimore not at the airport, but for a Bostonian just flying through it was an excellent deal. The service was reasonably fast, and my waitress was very nice. I waited about 15 minutes to order, but could have ordered right away when the waitress came to offer drinks to speed things up. She recommended the crab roll over the crab cakes when asked. In any case, I had paid my check 45 minutes after arriving, and this place seems to handle guests in a hurry very well, as befits an airport sit-down restaurant. I will absolutely be back when I fly through BWI in the future!

Wow, it's not often that I get excited about a restaurant in an airport! There are a few airports I go to that mainly have local restaurants show up, but they are few & far between. I'm a sucker for crab cakes so when I was waiting for a layover in BWI (Baltimore IS known for their crabcakes), I had to try this out. My friend from Baltimore who is the biggest crabcake snob I know may have scoffed, but I really enjoyed it. It was much larger than I expected and the crab meat to loaf ratio was much better as well. I was a bit underwhelmed with the lack luster sides, but I was here for the crabcake sandwich and didn't go away disappointed. Service was quick and got an immediate seat - likely due to the crazy high prices. But again, it was an airport. The Blue Moon draft was a perfect companion and I left a happier, if poorer, person.

Typical airport experience. Sat at a table that was not cleaned in seat yourself. Waitress dropped off menus few min later, we wiped the table w our own Clorox wipe. Asked if we know what we want (did not write order down) did not get correct order. Rushed us to order so they could try to impress us with their memorization of our order, which failed. Chef salad was big and avg. chicken nuggets were good. Crab cake was cold, never checked on us, I wanted a lemon slice. I didn’t expect much more, met my low expectations

The Shrimp Pizza was really good, I usually do not order those kinds of things in an airport but the reviews showed it to be better than expected. I enjoyed the flavors very much, I really could taste all the butter and the richness. I would probably share it next time vs eating it all to myself. I ended up feeling extremely full after, plus with a beer. But overall it was good.

The crab cakes are nice and juicy it’s nothing like Maryland crab cakes other places I have been are more breaded than anything 🙌😋🤤
