Orange County’s International Markets, a Culinary Haven in Southern California | Eater LA

"Sharing a shopping center with Nosh House, this market stocks ready-made refrigerated staples like quart containers of chicken noodle soup, potato kugel, and matzo balls, alongside a bakery offering chocolate nut rugelach and other items that evoke Southern California’s historic Jewish bakeries such as LA’s Diamond Bakery." - Jenn Tanaka

Google
What a disappointment. Ordered the herring and liver this year, and it was downright inedible. Completely tasteless—no seasoning, no flavor, nothing. It was actually the punchline of our Seder; instead of celebrating, everyone was too busy talking about how shockingly bad the food was. The herring had that unmistakable freezer-burned texture, and the liver? Dry, bland, and utterly lifeless. To make matters worse, this place charges premium prices—as if you're getting top-quality dishes. We ended up throwing both items out the next day, untouched. An absolute waste of money. This place used to be excellent. I don’t know if they changed ownership or just stopped caring, but it’s a shadow of what it once was. Tasteless, frozen, and absurdly overpriced. Never again.

Small kosher certified market. Nice selection of breads and meats. Found my husband's sought after pickled tomatoes.

Google
The best kosher market in orange county by far!!! Many markets claim to be kosher because they carry a few things. O.C. Kosher is the real deal!! They have a wonderful selection of everything, a great meat counter and their potpies are truly incredible!! And... Their staff is friendly, beyond helpful and they even package an entire week of meals for you. Walk in, it's all labeled kosher and boxed beautifully!! Incredible market!!

Julia K.

Google
Beautiful kosher market with lots of options and lots of premade food. Really saved my life when i was in town for shabbes!

Abie C.

Google
Best kosher meat! Benny really does an amazing job with the cuts.

Crystal N.

Google
Great hospitality and all meats are Kosher. Small, centralized and on the South end of the shopping center closest to the 5 fwy. Clean, personalized and location in Old Town Tustin.

Google
Always polite always helpful, and they have a great butcher section. Great store and staff kudos 👏

Google
Like this place. Easy in and out. Pre packaged food works for me.

Yelp
I shop here sometimes. They are warm and knowledgeable. They know their customers and have great prepared dishes.

Yelp
Great selection of kosher food, highly recommended for shabbat, especially the Matzo balls Witch For those who don't know how to make them themselves, which I do!

Yelp
Recently I was searching for Kosher for Passover wine and remembered this store. I found the prices for the wine a bit high. I was able to find these wines for slightly less at BevMo. The best deal was at Trader Joes (Long Beach) and the wine was good enough. The most disappointing issue in my last visit was the kitchen, now next door. The sandwich was still pricey, but every restaurant is now pricey. The real insult was the quality of the product they presented. Dry, lackluster. It gets more than one star because it was, at least edible and I was still healthy after eating it (because I was so hungry) The saving grace is the cashier in the store (not at the kitchen, that person seemed very disengaged.) ...in any case the cashier was helpful and welcoming.

Yelp
I was just told they don't make ANY gluten-free prepared food and that even their deli meat contains gluten. I'm not even sure how that's possible.

Nina R.

Yelp
Food is excellent! Very good selection of restaurant food, groceries, prepared food and butchery.

Yelp
I went shopping today to OC Kosher market to get a Challah bread before Shabbat, went to check out and made a purchase I was asking for the receipt (which usually don't really take one) I got home and something told me to look at the receipt and I found out that they are charging almost $9 for a Challah bread of exactly same brand that I used to buy in Ralph's for $4.25 !! This place is a clear rip off I will not go back to this store and would like to share my shopping experience with you guys! Not recommend to do shopping in this RIP OFF place!!
google avatar

Christina N.

Yelp
My first experience at this establishment was an unpleasant one. I was rushing to get some last minute things for Pesach, and the guy who helped me was quite rude and his replies to my questions were very short- helping me seemed like a chore. He also gave off a "you don't look Jewish- why the heck are you shopping here?", vibe... it was quite uncomfortable, and I don't appreciate it when fellow Jews give me judgemental stares for not looking like a stereotypical Ashkenazi Jew. I understand that i look like a gentile and have a goyish name, however I don't have to advertise the fact that I'm "Chana Rachel Bat Yaakov" & that I am indeed a member of the tribe *rolls eyes* (what does a real Jew look like anyway?) Anyhow, I'll give them one extra star for having all of the stuff I needed for my Seder, however i am absolutely disappointed with the service. It was unsatisfactory- period. & I do not intend to come back. Tbh, I really wanted to support this business as it is Jewish and family owned, and I am always happy to support members of the tribe.... but the judgemental stares paired with the attitude from the staff members was very off putting. I'd rather schlep to LA for my kosher needs than give this place another penny.

Yelp
I wasn't impressed at all with this place. I wanted a good Kosher Pastrami sandwich. I think a sandwich from Ralphs would have been better and at half the price. There was barely any meat, you get like a one bite size portion of macaroni salad, and the pickle was sour like a Dill pickle. I like a good Deli pickle and this was the worse. One of the workers had his mask off behind the deli counter when he thought nobody would see him. For a local Kosher sandwich I'll stick to Benjie's or head to L.A.

Yelp
BEWARE: Pictures of the food are apparently not real and the management at this place is terrible. I ordered 2 chicken schwarma sandwiches ($30) with everything and received no veggies, only the protein and the pita bread. Management replied to me over the phone that everyone makes mistakes. He suggested that the next time I come, I should make sure that I emphasize I want everything in the sandwich because saying yes to the question "would you like the sandwich with everything?" Isn't clear enough. He did not offer anything in return, not even the missing veggies that I paid for. TLDR: if you like veggies in your chicken schwarma sandwich, repeat 3 times that you want everything in your sandwich and check your sandwich before you leave the shop because this business doesn't care.

Yelp
I really didn't want to do this bad review but after today visit I have no choice!!!! They are the only kosher market in OC so they take a HUGE advantage of that and not for the good reasons!!! Prices are extremely high on meat and chicken for no reason. But the reason why I'm putting this review it's today I went and bought a pack of chicken schnitzel paid about $12 and when I get home my wife open it to start cooking. Guess what... they put 2 big pieces at the top of the package so you think it's actually full of nice big pieces and what we actually got is 2 pieces that are not very big and all the rest of the pieces are so small size of a finger!!!! It's disgusting that this is what they do!!! To me it's definitely a RIPOFF and that's not the first time that this happened but I just don't like to give bad reviews but this is too much!!! Look at the pictures. Do your self a favor and don't buy from this place better to do the drive to LA to the Israeli market over there!

Yelp
I've been here a couple times and I have never been disappointed. This is basically the only kosher market in the entire OC. I don't keep kosher but some of my friends do so when we have get togethers it is a great place to get food. The last time I was there we ordered some sandwiches. My falafel pita was just okay but the chicken shawarma looked delicious. As did the pastrami and corned beef. Caution though, they make the sandwiches fresh to order so be prepared to wait awhile. The market itself is pretty small but they pack so much stuff into every corner you will pretty much be able to find what you are looking for if you look hard enough. For anyone missing foods from Israel, this is also the place for you! I have been to Israel a few times and some of their food is so amazing! We have nothing like it in the states but thanks to OC kosher I don't have to travel halfway across the world for halva! Yay!

Yelp
Ordered from San Diego as they have weekly delivery from OC. The service was good and staff are friendly on the phone. They got the order right and it was fresh and on time! The food was tasty - a little expensive but it's kosher- so understandable. Recommend and will order again!!

Yelp
I paid my first visit to this market today. I would have given it five stars if not for the prices/pricing policy! I have always appreciated small businesses and, in fact, have a prepared speech for anyone who will listen about why we need to support them rather than places like Costco. As much as I am willing to pay a bit more to support the little guys, this place really takes their prices over the top, even for Orange County! Still, I wanted to give it a try, so I made a careful selection from the freezer case of two chicken pot pies that were clearly marked for $13.50 - the cheapest of all of their pot pies. After I checked out at the counter, I noted on my receipt that I had been charged $15.99! I went back inside to have the mistake corrected, and was told that "some of the prices are off" and that they say this on their website! I would like to put in an expletive here that looks a lot like WT_?!, but I won't. I looked at the website after I got home and, indeed, they do have a banner that says, "PLEASE NOTE: Due to current market conditions the pricing is only an estimate and is subject to change." Once again, WT_?! Who does business like this? The price marked is the price you pay, not whatever they decide to charge you on any given day. I have lived in this world for 63 years in six countries and seven U.S. states, and I have never encountered anything like this anywhere. OC Kosher Market, I wanted to like you. I could have loved you, as you have a very cool selection of foods, but I simply will not support a business that randomly puts the burden on the customer to take a financial hit because you decided that today, your prices were almost 20% more than you marked it on the package. NOTE: I was able to get $2.49 credited back to my credit card.

Yelp
My friend and I ordered pastrami from the deli. We were excited to try kosher meats, a rare find for us. The store is small but has a nice variety of meats and the staff was mostly nice. However, be warned if you are non-Jewish you will be faced with very judgmental people. Many people gave us hard stares and looked at us up and down constantly. As if to say "why are you here, eating our meats?" Quite an unexpected greeting when we came to happily support a small shop. One woman also shooed us back when we were walking down the aisles (we were def 6 feet apart at that time and it was just so rude). Elitist mentality and will not be supporting again. I recommend supporting local shops that welcome all, not just their own.

Yelp
We were in the neighborhood so I popped into this place to have a look. You know that going by the name everything is kosher. They have a meat section and they do state in large letters that they have South African Boerewors (kind of sausage like thing) and Biltong (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biltong) -- I'm not a fan of the stuff. Not a big store, but they do have all your needs to get through preparing for your Passover meals.
google avatar

Kelly B.

Yelp
Really nice fresh made sausage Nice selection of cookies Nice butcher section I haven't been in there too much but it seems like I'll like it
google avatar

Hualin H.

Yelp
Fried Chicken sandwich on Pretzel bread bun, the cold slaw has special herby flavor, chicken was very tender, juicy,. Fries were big fat and good. Bought Biltong & Droworst , will have them for snacks later to see if I like them.

Yelp
We just had a meal with family and friends after my father in law's funeral! The food was absolutely delicious.. kugel rivaled my husband's auntie's! We were made to feel welcome and comfortable on a very difficult day. I'm sorry that I didn't take pictures. And it met the dietary requirements of my orthodox brother in law. Thank you Clive and staff.

Yelp
The kitchen makes the best dishes. Thank you Chef Odi. Great Customer service and food.

Yelp
If you're looking for kosher foods in the OC, this is your best bet. They have a kosher sand which shop next door. Seems like a hangout spot for religious folks too. Nice place.

Yelp
As I stated before, the OC Kosher Market is truly the promised land for those who adhere to and/or love kosher food products. Walking into the store, you become very impressed with all that they offer. It is quite a diverse entity for all that you would want and need!! With their new owner, the store was highly upgraded in the way it looks, and what they offer. The kosher butcher section has a variety of meat products that in some ways are very unique. Beef and poultry along with sausages and BBQ items (plus, fish) allows you to take them home and have a wonderful breakfast, lunch or dinner. Along with that, they have a deli where you can get several sandwiches (among them corn beef and pastrami) and side items that would truly adhere to your appetite. Again, walking through the butcher counter makes you very delighted!! Along with the butcher, shop, they have many different kosher products that are well within your appetizing realm. It is truly like walking into a wonderful supermarket (check-out their freezer and it will make you very loving hot for everything in it). Plus, they have delicious bakery items, wines, and holiday foods (like for the Sabbath, Chanukah, and Passover) for your heart's content!! Again, a wonderful store so that you can buy products that will make you eat, drink, and be very merry!! The OC Kosher Market is again diverse in its products and its customers. You will shop beside Hasidic yidden in black and white, Orthodox ladies in their long skirts and wigged or babuska-covered locks, as well as men in shorts and t-shirts standing next to women wearing tank tops and tattoos. Along with that, you will view every race, ethnicity, and gender seeing, buying, and loving the OC Kosher market in every way, shape, and form. As a retired teacher and educator, I will truly grade them with an A+!!

Yelp
The last time I was there, 3 men behind the meat counter weren't wearing masks. There were flies in the case with prepared foods. The man at the cash register, who appeared to be a manager, wore his mask below his nose. I was so put off, I haven't returned, preferring instead to shlepp all the way to LA, rather than risk my health.

Mark L.

Yelp
Just returned from a trip to Laguna and we took a detour to OC KOsher to sample the South African Biltong and Boerewors. It was AMAZING. You will not find more tasty or authentic kosher biltong and boerewors anywhere in the world ( including South Africa) The selection of other foods at this location was impressive and obviously selected by food lovers with an eye for original amd tasty kosher products. We were fortunate to have this store. We will definitely try the prepared food NOSH HOUSE store next time as the description of the food was mouth watering.

Yelp
Interesting small little maker deli. Unfortunately I don't know if it's due to the coronavirus or because we are close to Passover, but they have horrible customer service. How can you be so rude when a customer asks a simple question? I was only looking for 2 items, some wheat flower and some simple red wine. I was met with a short blunt answer-"all our flower is booked". Such a shame because they have alot of interesting things I wanted to try. Not ever coming here. They lost a possible new customer.

Scott D.

Yelp
Came here a few times before, sandwiches were nice but a little pricey, last time I came portions were small and prices were ridiculous, they opened restaurant a few doors down from Store

Nghia T.

Yelp
Unbelievable. My sister and I ordered 2 chicken schawarmas with everything on them. However, they got the order wrong and we received them with onions only. We called the manager and he did not even offer to correct the order. He just passively said that "everybody makes mistakes" so he wasn't going to do anything about it. I expect better service from food that costs this much. Treat people better and if you make a mistake, fix it, why can't you even do this? It's basic customer service.
google avatar

Matt H.

Yelp
If you keep Kosher (I don't), then you are limited in what you can buy at normal grocery stores. You have packaged Kosher items on the shelves almost everywhere, and there is sealed and packaged meats at Trade Joe's, but it is hit and miss. Still, even with the packaged meats, you only have what is available on the shelf. At OC Kosher Market, EVERYTHING is Kosher. The deli case, the meat case, all the packaged products, everything. No inspection of labels, no asking if you can get a different cut of meat, no buying a whole Empire chicken if you only want breasts or thighs. And (what matters most to me), no wandering to 3-4 different grocery stores to buy the products I want to have on hand for Passover.
google avatar

Lisa Luck M.

Yelp
My uncle and his wife have been coming here for a couple of years and introduced us to the dinner menu. It's great if you don't feel like cooking but want a restaurant quality meal. Higher quality than popular meal kits. We pre-ordered Thanksgiving dinner from here this year, so I'm excited about that. I've discovered a few new markets in 2020, including this one and it's been a nice break from my typical grocery shop.
google avatar

Melanie V.

Yelp
My family was so excited to find a local market that sells fresh Boereworse, Biltong and Droewors.
google avatar

Anthony N.

Yelp
I can only tell the truth. This is the best chicken I have ever had.. As you eat it is hard not to laugh at how gooooood it is, ugh. The kosher chicken breast when brought home to cook, keeps the moisture, is juicy and will change your life. The meat is not stressed, and the juice that comes off the breast is holy. If food is a remedy, this is the antidote. Chick3n like no other, and a great way to meal prep. You should bring ice, and a little cooler to keep the chicken fresh. I've frozen the cooked chicken for 3 weeks, and it still taste better than cooking and eating the chicken I would get from mother's market right away (organic) which I thought was premium stuff.
google avatar

Manuel M.

Yelp
Still one of my favorite spots for some good shawarma. This place never disappoints and is always tasty and fresh:)

Jeff L.

Yelp
Ordered meals to eat at a meeting in LA for myself and two colleagues : two evening dinners and a lunch-9 meals in all. Order filled perfectly. Fresh and delicious OC added desert -perfect touch. Order was ready exactly when requested as well. Could not ask for more!!

Yelp
Worst kosher store ever! Overpriced, rude, unfriendly service and cashier!!!!! Wow what's wrong with u guys???I would never go there again and tell my friends too.

Yelp
By far my favorite Kosher place. The food and service are amazing. The staff are always friendly and welcoming.

Yelp
What a pleasure - I've shopped here several times over the last few years, particularly for Passover items. Every employee you encounter in the aisles, behind the register or at the butcher couldn't be more helpful or kind. They have a great selection of items that are just not available at mainstream markets. Their shelves are immaculately prepared for Passover and all items are clearly labeled for those who do not eat kitniyot during Passover. I live in the East San Gabriel Valley and I either drive two hours to the San Fernando Valley or West Los Angeles (to be treated rudely by both staff and customers on Pico) or I zip down the 5 freeway to Tustin and do my shopping there. I'll take OC Kosher any day! PS - great Kosher wine selection, as well.

Marissa W.

Yelp
Terrible customer service. I spent $75 on a 15lb kosher turkey that was full of disgusting feathers. It was not well cleaned at all. They are the only kosher game in town so they are rude and entitled because they know customer have dew alternative options. It would have been easier and cleaner to purchase a turkey at the market and kosher it myself. When I called to speak with the owner he was rude and defensive. I won't be paying these outrageous prices for subpar meat again.

Sondra R.

Yelp
I've been going to OC Kosher for several years now and, overall, I really like it but these last few times when I've had my chicken cut I find missing wing parts. This time I was there I asked for the chickens to be cut into 10 pieces and am missing two parts of the chicken wings from one of the sets of whole chickens I ordered. Like I said, I like OC Kosher overall but am very disappointed that these last few times I've been missing pieces.

Derek C.

Yelp
This just happened about an hour ago. I heard from a friend several days ago about this Kosher place in Tustin, being Torah observant and eating only clean food as The Torah Prescribes, I was so excited! I and my roommate go in to get what we need for the coming Passover meal and everything was fine. Got several other items for me personal like the beef salami, score!!! As I was looking at a display, I hear from behind me a man yelling at someone with such anger. So I turned around to see what is going on and he is a Jewish older man 60-70ish yelling in my direction to stay away from him to respect the 6 foot distance. So I thought he was talking to my Italian friend but he was look passed him at me. I was in such confusion for I was at least 7-8 feet way from him. I said sir are talking to me? And yes as he came about a feet closer with his hands out in pushing motion towards me. And again I'm very confused! I really hate to go here but I have no other logicAl explanation...I'm the only Dark person in the store. Not a single worker ask this man to claim down or come to my defense. It was like this is normal and expectable behavior. So I went around and got 6 feet behind him to get in line. He did know I was there. Several non dark people walk no more then 12 inches away from him and lingered and he did not say one word! Hmmm! So when the second cash register opened I went passed him and he snapped his head around so fast and watched the whole time I was checking out. He did not watch my Italian friend While he was checking out(he checked out before me). This place is very small and if he was so worried about catching anything, he should not have been there with no mask but he was wearing gloves. I will go back and see if they don't mind dark peoples money. If not, I'm more then happy to take my hard Earned money where I can feel welcomed! I will share my experience with my congregation and others. I guess what brothers me the most is, especially there, is that I would be around people who are more like me in how we live our lifes but I felt more alienated and not apart and not one person was welling to do what Torah says to do when you see a wrong. I forgive them all for I don't want to carry that ugliness around with me as well and I know My Creator requires me to even love my enemy. I write this for those of us who are beautifully Melanated by our Creator to beware that you may encounter those who do not want you there, so it won't be a shock as it was for me!!

Yelp
This place has great meat and good trying challah bread. We love to get the white chocolate and find it is the freshest buying on Wednesday.

Yelp
Such a wonderful market. Baruch HaShem that they are here to serve us here in OC. Every time I go the staff are all so friendly no matter the fact that they always seem to be busy. The fresh food from the deli is delicious. The sweet potato fries are my favorite. Never disappointing.

Babs K.

Yelp
We ordered $450 worth of pre-cooked food for Pesach. It was a last minute thing as our children decided it wouldn't be a good idea for us to travel during the pandemic. We were shocked how amazing the food was. First of all, they weren't stingy - there was a TON of food that will last us for the whole Pesach. Secondly, the food was delicious! We ordered soup, knaidlach, brisket, chicken, kugels, pastries - you name it, it was ALL fantastic. I have a feeling that had we purchased all the ingredients and made it ourselves, it would have cost a lot more and the labor involved would have been arduous and exhausting. I am grateful to OC Kosher for making our Pesach so easy and so delicious!
google avatar

Jerry M.

Yelp
Dirty store, with old food in the freezer. Overpriced poor quailty fare. Basically they exploit peoples need for glatt kosher food in OC where there are few choices, by providing stale crap at high prices. Their chopped liver is an atrocity. Avoid.
google avatar

Debbi P.

Yelp
Firstly - the place is under new management and has undergone a DRASTIC improvement... It's clean, well-stocked, updated & yummy product range, fresh meat and fresh foods, great customer service and a great deli as well. Oh, and they now take major credit cards. You wouldn't even think that this is the same place as the previous reviews. Check it out, you won't be disappointed. They are still a little expensive, but nothing more than what one expects from a Kosher market. PS: Fellow SA's - they have kosher boerie rolls & they're pretty tasty
google avatar

Jon D.

Yelp
The food was really satisfying and the prices are pretty good. but the deli department is a bit slow. But over all it is a really good spot to come and buy your groceries and order fresh hot kosher food. And has place to sit outside and eat. P.s the meat has a good kosher certification. (Wissmendal, CHK, Uruguay,)

Leah K.

Yelp
The meats, selection, cut, freshness, and variety are plentiful and delicious, appreciate the delivery to San Diego, the delivery person, John, is wonderful. I am displeased with the intermittent disconnect experienced in terms of telephonic ordering and going forward will ensure that all orders are placed in writing via email.

Yelp
I've been shopping here a couple of times a month since I moved to Orange County in 1998. Great selection of Kosher groceries, meats, frozen food, snacks and baked goods, to name a few things. The store really improved several years ago under new ownership. Looks nicer, with a broader product assortment. My favorite items are the Mexican Turkey (cheaper than at Ralph's), corned beef, challah from Schwartz's bakery in Los Angeles, South African chocolate bars (e.g. Aero), potato knishes, and the low fat version of kosher ramen noodle soups (I think it's the Tradition brand). They also sell a packaged version of Shakshuka which is a tomato based sauce to cook eggs in. They also have a good dried meat stick, which tastes similar to Montreal karnatzel, but I forget the name. It's South African. It's not inexpensive, but kosher food usually isn't. If you are looking for Kosher food in O.C., this is the best place, in my opinion. I like supporting local businesses like this one.
