My wife and I had some friends visiting from New England who wanted to see Miami. Not being super familiar with the city, I thought this would be a great way to spend an afternoon, and I had heard seeing the city by water was the way to go.
After a lot of research I learned about Ocean Force Adventures on the Condé Nast traveler podcast. The podcast described ocean force as the best boat tour they had ever done - and I agree! While certainly more expensive than other options, the intimacy of having only 6 people on board, paired with the longer time on the water makes it well worth it. The tour took us all around - seeing the port of Miami, celebrity homes, downtown Miami by south beach, and way out to Stiltsville - which is so interesting! Our guide, AKA: captain Matt, was super knowledgeable and was clearly passionate about the city, its history, and culture. Definitely ask him for recommendations for food, drink, and things to do in the area.
Booking was easy, and in the instance of rain you'll be issued a credit to use within one year - which is certainly reassuring during the rainy season.
The boat itself is fast, and can be a bit bumpy at times. Not in a way that will make you sea sick, as there's little to no "bobbing", but if traveling at a high speed and going over wakes, it can be a bit of a jolt - but that's half the fun. All said, wouldn't recommend this for folks who want to have a relaxing slow paced tour - but if you don't mind getting your hair knotty, and maybe even a little wet, this is a fantastic way to see the city. Don't wear a hat, and I highly recommend bringing sunglasses and sun screen.
Last thing: remember to have cash to tip your captain! You will want to by the time you get off board.
