Dine in at this BYOB spot and enjoy ahi tuna salad, broiled or fried sea scallops, and whole steamed lobster or grab some entrees to go and share a fresh seafood meal with friends and family in the comfort of your shore house." - Kristen Kwiatkowski

Oceanside Seafood is perfect for good takeout seafood dinners. We had the Shrimp in a Basket and Shrimp Scampi. The shrimp in a basket came with a baked potato and coleslaw. Very good. Shrimp were fried perfectly and not greasy at all. The shrimp scampi was good, but it needed more sauce. The shrimp were fresh and cooked well. The service was quick and friendly. Overall a very good experience.

Great service! The woman were so helpful with my odd request. Such a great, friendly, and speedy service! I highly recommend them for any of your seafood needs.

I ordered a very simple meal. The lobster grilled cheese, which was totally burned on one side, and not on the other tells me that the cook was deceitful with the way the meal was packaged (Good side up). The person who made it obviously knew that they had burned it and served it anyway. They also gave us old bay fries with no old bay. When I called the young girl, at first, she tried to explain to me that bread gets toasted in a grilled cheese……The lack of apology was pretty weak and so was the offer to make another. I might give them another chance but I doubt it..

Matt Weisberg

Google
The she crab fries were rubbery and the she crab soup was freezer burnt. This was less than ideal.

My husband and I recently dined at Oceanside Seafood, Avalon, and we were incredibly disappointed. To give Oceanside the benefit of the doubt, the muscle appetizer was decent, but not nearly scrumptious enough to compensate the disgrace of an entree to follow it. We got the exceedingly overpriced shrimp scampi. While the price tag alone was painful, we hoped the auspiciously described garlic and butter shrimp pasta would soften the blow. To our disappointment, though, the pasta only blew smoke into the already burning hole in our wallets. The noodles themselves were both al dente and mushy; so unevenly cooked it seemed the pot held too little water. The overcooked shrimp appeared to be sprinkled with pepper and a sad amount of additional seasoning, too ambiguous to name. Not to mention, the random cold chunks of tomato thrown on top of the dish acted as a pointless, flavorless addition. While the three culinary miseries previously mentioned were painful enough, none of them were as miserable as the “garlic butter sauce” hidden underneath. This “sauce” tasted of nothing more than bland pasta water, with a pinch of salt mixed in to hide the lazy display. After complaining, nothing was done in response, only a brief apology from our waitress, and a surprisingly full bill. All in all, Oceanside Seafood should seriously reconsider what they believe is flavor, and should alter their menu to include “pasta water” as an option for sauce.

Google
BEST RESTAURANT IVE EVER BEEN TOO!!! I mean seriously, the service was incredible, the food was incredible, no wait at all!! And the hostess, Ava, sat us immediately!! I seriously could not recommend this place enough!! It’s perfect for every meal of the day!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Google
Great service! Food was delicious and very kind.

Google
Love their soups!!! Crab soups and clam chowder are the best. The service is super friendly, we have been coming here for some time and we look forward to the Summer to enjoy a nice dinner. It's a BYOB.

Craig J.

Yelp
Solid place for lunch! Came in on a Friday and was warmly greeted by Jojo, who was wonderful and attentive. Nice to have the place to ourselves before the after work/weekend crowd came in. We ordered various things and the food was fresh and hot. Shrimp was a bit overcooked, but still flavorful and the Scallops were perfect. Would recommend for sure. They have a seafood market and various sauces in the front as well, give it an look!

Lori S.

Yelp
Everything was delicious, would recommend to friends. We had the Scallops, the Crab Tacos, Calamari, New England Clam Chowder all outstanding.

Anthony C.

Yelp
Great service, great food, reasonable prices. I looked at previous reviews and decided to try it. There were four of us. I ordered the flounder stuffed with crabmeat. I enjoyed it and so did my friend became it was just that, flounder and crab meat. No oily residue. If I could make a suggestion, offer a sauce similar to your crab bisque on the side. It would make it a little juicier. My wife ordered grilled jumbo shrimp. They weren't jumbo. But they were good.

Yelp
Called around 4:00pm for a party of 18 for dinner and they seriously went above and beyond and made a huge table for everyone for 6:30 which has never happened in our 20+ years at the Shore and I couldn't have been happier. Every member of the staff was so kind and spot on despite the overwhelming amount of people in our group. Service was welcoming and perfect. At first, I was bummed when I heard they were out of King Crab for the day, but I ordered the blackened tuna special and it was absolutely amazing. Seasoned so perfectly I almost felt bad dipping it into sauce. Made my day and our server helped me make sure it was dairy free too!! We will definitely be back soon and probably ordering takeout from here often the rest of the summer. Serious props to all staff at the restaurant!!

Gail C.

Yelp
Disappointing takeout last night....shrimp cocktail was undercooked and mushy. Lobster bisque was watery, tasteless and had no meat. Steamers were ok, but hard to mess them up. Almost $100 for a meal that left us unsatisfied.

Meredith Z.

Yelp
Excellent service Exceptional food Loved everything Oyster is the best we had during our trip The lobster is super fresh Everything is simply amazing Highly recommend

Ava V.

Yelp
This restaurant is a cute little find and an even cuter setting. Starting off with service- it was unmatched. The servers were very friendly as well as attentive. The food was beyond amazing. The crab legs were the best thing I've eaten in a long time. We ate 3 pounds of snow crab legs, delish! And it came with sides as well, both the fries and Caesar salad were so good! All in all, great experience and great food. Very family friendly!

Marko R.

Yelp
"Jo Jo ain't know jo.......ke!" Jo times 2, I don't typically review after the first time, As one bad or good experience does not warrant a good or bad review, For the past two years even during Covid, Ocean has delivered every time. . Consistent, good quality food, great service as Jo Jo has never disappointed with a wonderful smile and even better service. The scalloped rosé is excellent and the buck a shuck oysters and clams never disappoint! I've had at least half the menu, I can't say there was anything that was just terrible. Consistently good, relaxed atmosphere and BYOB!

Grace K.

Yelp
Lobster bisque was too rich with barely any lobster. Atmosphere was tacky and cheap. Service was good but couldn't make up for the food. They didn't even have fish and chips on the menu, which should tell you all you need to know! Old bay fries were too salty. Disappointed and won't be returning :(

Joanna L.

Yelp
This is my go-to spot when I don't want to travel far for some fresh seafood. I've sat and dined here, which was a good, simple meal, but I often bike over to grab a piece of fish and some shrimp. The staff is always chipper and helpful, and the fish is good. They have a moderate and simple fish selection, not quite as vast as Matthews in Cape May Court House, but worth a visit when you're staying on-island.

Owen M.

Yelp
We've been there twice now and both service and food has been top notch. The seafood is fresh and delicious with great portion sizes. Would highly recommend plus a byob.

Siaolan A.

Yelp
Casual, affordable seafood BYOB in Avalon. This is one of the more reasonably priced restaurants in Avalon. I've come here about 5 times already this summer with friends. Great restaurant for larger groups, even better that its BYOB. They have fresh seafood and their seafood market prices are 100% reasonable, i almost always get their Alaskan Snow Crab platter with fries and it's almost always about $35 for a good number of clusters. Casual dining area, not fancy at all. Good for families and rowdy groups. We also almost never have to wait for a table, it's easy to make a reservation if needed. Service has always been great too. My go to spot for crab legs on the island!

Thomas R.

Yelp
We ordered a significantly large take out order from Oceanside Seafood. The order included 100 clams, several crab cake meals, a shrimp salad, two different soups, and a couple of different appetizers. The ordering process was very easy and the person working the phone was very attentive and did a great job taking the order. Everyone enjoyed the items that they ordered. The steamed clams are prepared in a manner that has them seasoned and in a butter bath. From a take out perspective this was awesome since we did not have to do anything but enjoy the meal. The crab cakes were tasty and filled with jumbo lump crab meat. Everything was great. When we return to Avalon, we will likely being doing take out from Oceanside Seafood again.

Mike K.

Yelp
Wonderful, over the top service. Stopped in to check out some seafood to cook at home. The owner, Michelle, told us to call the day before and they would add it to their order for the following day. I called on a Wed, they were closed. While leaving a message, she picked up and took my order in the nicest way possible. Upon picking it up the next day, decided to take a seat and have a few oysters for lunch. They were so amazing, we took home another 20 for dinner that evening with our newly acquired Halibut. Our server for lunch was incredibly friendly and helpful as well. The fish and oysters were the best our family of 6 had ever had. Top notch all the way around. Looking forward to making this meal a tradition to our yearly beach trip. Thanks to everyone at Oceanside! Keep up the great work.

Emilia G.

Yelp
I have gone to Oceanside Seafood for years and the staff is so welcoming. The menu has a good amount of options and the food is pretty good! Their seafood market is nice and they have many good options. I recommend you trying it if your in the area!

Gwendolyn P.

Yelp
The only thing I have tried from Oceanside Seafood is the she crab soup. It is by far the best she crab soup on the island. It was recommend by a friend and since her recommendation I am addicted. This soup is not for a calorie counter as you can certainly taste the butter and cream but it is sure to delight your taste buds.I have tried other she crab soups since, but they all pale in comparison to this one.

Devon M.

Yelp
Ordered take out. Fish tacos and ahi tuna. The fish tacos are a disgrace. I dont know who made this thought it was okay to serve this. Would give negative stars

David S.

Yelp
I have been using Yelp for years and have never posted a food review. This restaurant calls for my 1st review. I normally speak up while at a restaurant or any place of business, but I was hungry and felt lucky to get a table and reservations at the beach on a Friday night with my girlfriend. Service wasn't too bad. We ordered a water and a Sprite with appetizers that didn't need silverware, but had to ask for them and napkins after being served our main courses. This is an easy oversight for wait staff but still slightly annoying as we had to wait even after we asked for it. The food was 0-2 stars. The pricing, even for the shore was high for the quality and quantity of food. - FOOD - We were given rolls and butter as we sat down at our table. The rolls were stale, which I've read a few times in the reviews. Caeser salad - $10.95 for a side-salad portion. Room temperature salad with limp and browning lettuce, stale croutons, and what tasted like bottled dressing. Would have paid $5, full price if fresh. Crab nachos - $17.95 for a portion for (2). This was the best dish we ordered, and given a (2) star rating. "Lump" crabmeat should be lump, not shredded in my opinion. This dish was also room temperature. Would have paid $10, and full price for "lump" crab meat and served at least warm. Crab Fingers - $12.95 for (8) small to large pieces of crab. Nice and cold, but smelled off. The lemon and spicy mustard worked well to cover it up. Would have paid $7, full price if satisfied. Clam Strip Platter - $14.95 for "lightly fried" clam strips, fries and coleslaw. The strips were all breading and no clam, and heavily fried. The fries were the lightly-breaded frozen fries which were what I expected, and weren't bad. We don't eat coleslaw so I can't comment on it. Would have paid $8, full price is satisfied. Would have been satisfied paying around $30 plus tip, but instead we paid $65, plus tip. We ordered (4) dishes and weren't satisfied with anything but the soda and fries. Definitely will not be returning here, and I usually give places a 2nd chance.

Yelp
After following Oceanside on IG, I was looking forward to my first visit this week and was not disappointed. Service was excellent and our server was very knowledgeable and answered all of our many questions about the menu (I forget her name but she teaches preK). The lobster roll was the best I've had in years! We enjoyed the scallops rose but I think I'd prefer fewer scallops if they were larger and more seared just on top of the pasta. My boyfriend had the excellent seafood combo. My son devoured the kids chicken bites and they actually seemed homemade (as opposed to everywhere else we went that week that clearly had some dry frozen stuff). This place is definitely a keeper and we will be back!

Susan M.

Yelp
We went for lunch. Fries were crispy and delicious. Steam clams were good as was the lobster roll sandwich. Good consistent food.

Tim J.

Yelp
Excellent choice for BYOB dining. Mussels in red sauce were 1/2 price very good very generous portions on the scallop platter. BYOB kept the final check reasonable. Must go once if you visit Avalon. Casual atmosphere.

Holly K.

Yelp
Fantastic food and service this afternoon!! Po' Boy Sandwich hit the spot! Lobster grilled cheese had a ton of lobster! The crab nachos were awesome

Nate S.

Yelp
Incredibly yummy clam strips excellent, bread excellent, shrimp excellent, blackened tilapia excellent, calamari excellent, fish tacos excellent

Ron C.

Yelp
Disappointing dinner. Caesar salad was over salted and inedible. Mussels were not cooked to order some where in fact cold. Crab cake on crab cake salad while loaded with crab meat was underwhelming in flavor. I would avoid this restaurant until they find a trained chef. Server was pleasant.

Amanda A.

Yelp
Great little restaurant: very casual but really good food. The she crab soup is one of the best I've had: well seasoned with hunks of crab. The crab nachos were also really tasty and different. The seafood is all local and extremely fresh. I had the fried flounder and it was delicious. Someone else in the party had the swordfish special and it was also really good. All in all a great place and reasonably priced. I'll definitely be going back.

Patrick M.

Yelp
We liked this place so much we visited twice while on vacation. The portions were just right. We really enjoyed the fried scallops and shrimp. The surf and turf was also really good too. We will be back again.

Melissa G.

Yelp
I never write reviews, but my experience was so bad I just had to. I don't understand how this place got so many good reviews. I'm convinced they're from locals who are friends with the owners. 1st, my unsweetened ice tea tasted like water. My sister's soda tasted like the lines needed to be changed. I asked if they could make fried oysters in an appetizer size. The waiter said no problem at all. They were over-breaded. I barely could taste an oyster. Horrible. To make matters worse, I was charged $19. The dinner portion is only $3 more & comes with a side. Complete ripoff! The soft shell crabs said 'market price'. We asked the waiter how much they were, & he said $26. They were mediocre. Not impressed at all. When the bill came, they were $29. Not a huge difference, but it's the principle. 3 of us ordered them, so that's $9. My sister ordered the lobster tail stuffed with crab meat. She literally lifted the "stuffing" off, which looked like a pre baked slab of dry stuffing. The lobster was SO dry/overcooked & tasteless. For forty something dollars, it was disgraceful. My family never sends anything back! We definitely sent this back. Inedible. (The server who came over to help said they'd been having complaints about the lobster tails). This brings me to our service. Our waiter had to be hunted down whenever we needed him. The service was horrible. The only thing that was REALLY good was the french fries. Delicious. The Manhattan clam chowder & spicy crab/corn soup were also good. But not good enough to ever make me go back here. Not even if I was offered a free meal. Very disappointing & huge waste of money.

Kate G.

Yelp
Excellent service and food! As soon as I walked in the door I was very impressed with the service staff and manager. Their willingness to accommodate our party with specific needs for dining was phenomenal. The food was also very delicious and flavorful. The quality of food preparation was also very good. I will be sure to come back to Oceanside again when in Avalon and share with others.

L C.

Yelp
The mussels were amazing (and I don't even like mussels.) This is the second time I've come here, but first time doing the all you can eat crab legs special. So worth it! I got a baked potato as a side but really should've gone for the corn on the cob! The crab legs were sweet and juicy - heaven in my mouth! I ate so much, I could barely stand afterwards!

Jimmy B.

Yelp
We are Oceanside regulars and love the place and the super friendly staff. Was there last night when reviewer Mark W berated the owner and refused to pay his bill. He was completely out of line, outrageous, confrontational, and made everyone very uncomfortable. Oceanside and its other customers should hope he never returns!

Celia B.

Yelp
This place is like Chuck E Cheese with shrimp. Absurd I know but the place was full of screaming, food throwing toddlers. We waited (while chewing on stale rolls) 40 min for our food and were completely underwhelmed when it finally arrived. For $26, I expect more than 10 tiny scallops and shrimp. Even the side of veggies was miniature. To add insult to injury, they overcharged us for one of the kids meals.

Melissa K.

Yelp
Best seafood on the island! Everything is super fresh and we especially love the steamers, broiled seafood platter, salmon, shrimp scampi and scallops. A lot of places mess up scallops but Oceanside cooks them perfectly. Great place for a wonderful seafood meal with your family and it's BYOB.

Al Z.

Yelp
Love it at Oceanside, mostly due to their delicious she crab soup. It's amazing. Flounder is good. Fries are really good - nice batter and crispiness. I make it a point to go here any time I'm in SH for the week.

Thomas S.

Yelp
I went to this restaurant with my family the crab soup was amazing then I made the worst mistake of my life I ordered the PASTA!!! I'm scared for life it was the worst pasta sauce I ever had its so bad it would insult any Italian . Prego jar sauce is like a 10 in comparison it made me lose my taste buds in conclusion what were they thinking when they put this on their menu .... Tell me sincerely the pasta boy

Kevin M.

Yelp
Out traditional vacation-ending meal is always hard shell crabs from Oceanside Seafood. Always big, meaty and cooked to perfection. I love this place!

J H.

Yelp
While it may not be a 'formal' atmosphere, Oceanside is a comfortable, clean restaurant. Easy access & friendly service are just the start. Our waiter was on par with service , checking on us & alert to our needs for drink refills. The food was robust in flavor & plentiful. Highly recommend this establishment of you're staying in Stone Harbor or Avalon.

Jenn T.

Yelp
Looking for a place for steamed crabs, we settled on Oceanside because it was well regarded by other Yelpers and it was getting late! Not disappointed in our dozen! Went for Old Bay Fries with cheese (on the side please) and they were really good but REALLY salty and ordered two sides of vegetables (was sauteed zucchini--AMAZING!) We had arrived at their last seating (8:45 PM) and they were gracious and invited us in to sit. Food took a while to come out and our waitress was very attentive to our needs (water please!) and then the food came and we were very happy! Took us over an hour for the four of us to eat a dozen crabs but we were not rushed and even encouraged to take our time--very sweet because the waitress and others seemed to be waiting when we went to pay the check. I'd recommend this place for crabs!

Michael H.

Yelp
Been coming here for years and we love it! It is one of our favorite to stop every summer during our stay. As a chef myself I can taste the quality and passion behind this family style restaurant. It disturbs me to read reviews, especially one like Thomas S. (Young kid) that trashed the house made marinara. It's these types of people on Yelp that disgust me. His favorite place to eat is White Castle per his last post. So before you give any credit to these self promoted phony critics please look into their profile for credibility. Oceanside is wonderful and offer high quality meals in a family friendly atmosphere. And also if you don't like seafood simply don't visit and especially don't criticize a seafood establishment. These people work hard and care.

Steve G.

Yelp
Stretching to give it a star. Indifferent service and indifferently prepared food. Perhaps they do better during the season. We didn't order anything complicated but the kitchen (or the wait staff) couldn't get it even close to right.

Lauren C.

Yelp
The boyfriend and I wanted some no-frills seafood for dinner last Sunday so we strolled over to Oceanside as it came highly recommended. The place was basic, yet very inviting. We had a seat, strategized, and then went for it- i got the broiled scallops with french fries, and he got the scallops/flounder with broccoli. We also split some calamari since I'm new to the seafood game... and its been a big hit. Our waiter brought out bread and butter right away. The rolls were on the dry side, and the butter was on the hard side, but I didn't go there for the bread and butter... The calamari took quite a while (20 minutes or so) to come out, and it said it was 'lightly fried' but there was a lot of breading on this. That aside, it was still pretty delicious. We were lucky in that we had our beers to keep us company. This place is a BYOB, and i must say- that element of it is AWESOME. 4 bud-lights with some no-frills seafood was perfect. Our entrees came out not long afterwards. I'm new to this seafood thing, but what i got was quite a few scallops... so i dug right in. They were delicious. The seasoning was an enhancement, but it didn't steal the show. The french fries were beer battered and super-crispy. I ordered them with old bay too... and I quite literally couldn't stop eating them. The cole slaw was ok. Nothing to write home about... but not half bad either. My boyfriend seemed to like his food too. In the end, we left with about 7 scallops to go, and some flounder, and some cole slaw. It made a great lunch the next day. I also have to give props to the service. This place is run by a bunch of young kids... yet they're very professional, very quick, nice, and they take their job seriously. I was impressed. Overall, this place was quite a treat. The prices were fair (i think), and the BYOB component really just threw it over the top.

Susan D.

Yelp
The food was decent, but the service was terrible, rude, and mediocre at best. The waiter did not know the menu, never brought us bread after we requested it twice, got our order wrong, then proceeded to argue with me that I ordered a crab appetizer I would never order as I am allergic to crab. The manager said she would "talk to him, and said he was just confused," which is all she offered to do, and we never did get the bread or appetizer. There are much better places to eat where customer service actually exists as a concept.

Denea B.

Yelp
We ordered a dozen Maryland crabs & they only came with one claw attached. When we asked about the 12 missing claws - we were told the crabs throw their claws during the cooking process so crabs normally only come out with one claw attached ?!? However, they have a appetizer of crab fingers... the missing claws have been found! So buyer beware: you need to order both items to get a whole crab.

Silvie G.

Yelp
Not sure what's up with all the people below commenting that this place has "great food" but then give it an "average" 3 star rating. This place deserves a 4 star rating because I have never had a bad meal there. The shore is made up of too many over priced and sub-par places to eat. This place has very fresh, good seafood. Their market sells high quality seafood. Their customer service is excellent. If you know you are going to want to make some octopus on the grill next weekend, they will order you octopus. We get takeout often and even the fried food still is excellently cooked and crispy 20 mins later. And as for people complaining about the ambiance? It's a seafood joint down the shore! It's not supposed to be a palace? It's nice enough and it's clean and the food is good. They are great with families and kids. 4 stars. Only complaint was those crab fries were RIDICULOUSLY salty. Like I ate 2 and needed a glass of water and a hospital! Other than that, everything I've eaten has been excellent and simply prepared - the way seafood should be. Oh and their soups are good too! And the steamers... And the fried shrimp... Go with the simple and you will be happy. Don't expect good Italian food at a seafood joint. And impersonally wouldn't touch a lobster roll outside of Maine and mass. Be smart about your order and you should be alright.

Lena L.

Yelp
BYOB seafood place. Ordered the all you can eat snowcrabs and thought they were very tasty. Loved the old bay fries that came along too. The cole slaw had a nice mix of cabbage and wasn't too mayo-ish. Our server was very pleasant. Would return.

Julie J.

Yelp
Oceanside Seafood hosted our Rehearsal Dinner for 55 people in Oct 2013. The service was professional & efficient. We were able to enjoy ourselves while we barely noticed they were serving and clearing plates. The food was plentiful & everyone left full. The chowder was so good, as it always is. The shrimp, chicken & crab cake choices left our guests with the perfect entrees for our wedding weekend. The room was set up Perfectly w the hydrangea center pieces. We had an cocktail hour in one room and dinner in the other. Michele suggested we work w the liquor store down the street & allowed us to use the byob option & keep costs down. They even delivered. Michele was a pleasure to work with and created a perfect evening to kick off our wedding weekend. Thank you!

Stephanie B.

Yelp
ate there today for dinner. Had the crab cake salad. Very good. Great service. Will go there again.

Lisa W.

Yelp
The food is not bad, definitely a take-out place. We have eaten in a couple of times, but the ambiance is bland and sterile, like eating in a hospital cafeteria. And today, the chef was actually in the kitchen having a loud "freak out," very unprofessional and disconcerting, to the point we were ready to leave. From now on, it's take-out only!!

Kelly H.

Yelp
Meh... Deserves 3.5 stars... Definitely not 4 though... Menu was limited, but the food was good. Service was decent, nothing fantastic. Basically, this place is kind of a take it or leave it. I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to come back but it wasn't awful.

Christopher L.

Yelp
The fresh seafood here is very good. I recommend the soft shell crabs, sautéed, if they are in season. The shrimp are big and flavorful in both the cocktail and the shrimp and scallops entree. The mussels in white sauce are also highly recommended.

Mary S.

Yelp
Got takeout from Oceanside and they've definitely improved the service and the food was on point. Food was ready quickly, packed well for the drive home and very hot and fresh. Fried shrimp platter was the best, and the she crab soup was yummy. Clams Casino isn't a typical preparation so those fell flat. Chicken Caesar and fried flounder were strong too. Happy to write an updated review and looking forward to ordering again before the week is out!
