It took me many years, but I have found the greatest motivation for cycling...food. More specifically, breakfast foods. Strong coffee, interesting egg concoctions, olemettes, and occasional irresistible baked goods. Starting a longish ride with a halfway food stop does wonders for the psyche and motivation. Enter OCF.
For 6 summers I have made the pilgrimage to the SRT from some remote location and have fought the heat, humidity, and inevitable construction in Manayunk to visit Rocky. Tourists from around the world be damned, I am sweaty and will still take my umpteenth photo with him. And when our yearly niceties are over, I will roll towards the castle on the hill and I will eat.
And OCF will not disappoint. Pretty much a standard arrangement...they provide a breakfast bagel sandwich new coffee, and I sit outside and watch the world go by until I feel the call of the long ride back to beaucolic Ephrata- and the Amish that clippity-clop past- and I mount up, bid adeau to the castle and its neighboring cafe, and off I go.
Today's 50 miler was headlined by good coffee and an everything bagel with egg, spinach, and an odd spicy sausage patty. I do believe I had asked for turkey bacon, but all was forgiven with a sandwich that was 3 or 4 inches too tall for my mouth. I'll take that problem any day, and the sandwich was disassembled prior to consumption.
OCF, keep doing what you do. I am but a passing ship in the night, but our yearly rendezvous will provide motivation enough to make me do what I do.
