"O’Connor’s, a historic dining establishment that sat in Multnomah Village for almost 30 years, and for decades prior in downtown Portland, is serving its last bowl of jambalaya today. The Southern-fashioned vintage tavern was a mainstay, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinks from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. seven days a week. It served a diner menu of omelettes and scrambles for breakfast, and a classic tavern menu of burgers and salads in the evening, plus an assortment of Southern dishes, including jambalaya and gumbo; its fried hush puppies were a popular item amongst locals. It also operated as a venue for live music. Prior to its move in the early 90s, O’Connor’s had been operating in downtown Portland since 1934. It was once considered the last vestige of chauvinism in the city according to a report from The Oregon Journal. Though no official statement has been issued, locals report that the reason for its closing is the owner, Steve Arel, retiring and selling the building." - Alex Frane

I enjoyed the food and sat on the deck outside. It was a nice and relaxing experience! I had the fish tacos that were really good. I was also happy to see they had ciders on draft. The have music at night, so I will try to get there for one of the performances.

The first two times we went, we had amazing service! The waitress was very accommodating. She helped us select gluten free options, and always stopped by just to check that we had everything we needed. Even the manager was attentive to us. When we changed our mind about getting an appetizer and were looking for the waitress, the manager came and took the order for her. The next few times we visited were disappointing. We kept getting other waitresses, and none of them were very nice or accommodating. They had difficulty advising on gluten-free choices. They also seemed stretched too thin, covering many tables and just plain too busy to be bothered. On the visits we didn't order alcoholic beverages the services was even worse. You can place your order and never see the waitress again until the food is ready to be served. Forget about drink refills or ordering anything additional. One waitress even went so far as to criticize what I was ordering, "Is that all you're going to have?" Another waitress charged us for a full second cup of tea just to refill the teapot with hot water (no additional tea, just water). That said, Best Items on the Menu are Hot Wings served w/their own house-made dipping sauces are good & house-made Hummus. (They will serve the hummus w/gluten free bread upon request.) It's sad that atmosphere and service is so lousy, because it's close to home and we like the food. It's best ordering their food to-go.

We sat on the deck and enjoyed a very good lunch on a beautiful warm Spring sunny Sunday. I had the "Cheese Multnomah" and it was almost as good as I remember it being. The service was awfully slow, but it was a lazy Mother's day Sunday afternoon so we weren't in a rush. I can see why the sandwiches took time but it would have been nice to have had our drinks, 15 minutes is too long a wait, this is a bar after all. Sitting on the back deck brought back all kinds of memories of the days when it was Zoe's Tavern and that was over 30 years ago.

I go there often and I was surprised to read some of the reviewers who hate the staff. I LOVE the staff! It is true that on occasion the place has seemed a little under-manned, but the wait-people has always been great every time I have been there. I will agree that there seems to be a problem there with who will answer the phone.. sometimes I have been there and the phone rings on and on and no one answers it. That is a little disconcerning but quite honestly I have gotten used to it. This place sure isn't Olive Garden..it is quirky and I for one love the non-homogenized atmosphere. The food is always dependably good and interesting. I'd give it five stars, but there is that ringing phone.

We had a thoroughly pleasant evening here. We sat in a booth and everything was pleasant and homey. The food was exquisite, the service pleasant, and the dessert was a dream of deliciousness. I've heard such wonderful things about this long-time restaurant, and they were all true.

Some food is pretty good, others is poor. I just had the chicken and sausage gumbo, and it wasn't even gumbo - just chicken and sausage over rice. But my wife's dish was a good steak salad and in the past I've had good food there, so it isn't terrible, just not consistent I guess.

Party of 6, attentive and sincere/sweet service. All food from steaks to ribs. Fish, &shrimp, was properly cooked and tasty. Only one cocktail, but she said it was good. Frequent water refills for a dehydrated bunch. Also attractive, comfortable, and welcoming setting. Warm, firendly, nice.

This place is confused. Montana meets creole with goblins hanging on the wall. We went for dinner. It was below freezing and a waiter had to keep opening the door next to our table to deliver food next door. Very cold! My husband had grits in his food and mine was overdone and obviously frozen. Two stars because the mac and cheese was great.
