"Ocracoke Island's cuisine incorporates the customs, language, and food of the Indigenous Woccon people along with traditions from English colonizers and pirates. Seafood is a focal point of the cuisine, featuring dishes like clam fritters, boiled drumfish, and stewed crab. A notable dessert is the luscious fig cake, created by local baker Margaret Garrish as a substitute for dates."

Upon arrival, we went about exploring Ocracoke Island with a golf cart rental with our two happy, tail-wagging LABradorables. They absolutely loved the ride! 🛺🐾👅 Stretching 14 miles long, this secluded and tranquil island at Orcacoke offers a quiet escape to untouched shores and a charming coastal town with an adorable 200 years old historical lighthouse well worth exploring. It's definitely an island where time literally stops! At the end of the day, we made sure our LABradorables had their own play time on a secluded beach, where they roamed freely. It was PAWsitively wonderful! 🏝🐾🌊🌞🔍🛺🏞🦤👀🌤⚓📸💙

Quaint. It's not a hustle & bustle place. Great location to relax & unwind. Everyone we encountered was very friendly.

In my opinion, it is the jewel of the OBX. Amazing history, great people, beautiful beaches, spectacular sunsets, great food spots (Looking at you, Howard's Pub). Been going to the island for so years. Will go for the next 50.

I have been to Ocracoke for vacation several times. My wife and I absolutely love this little piece of paradise. The beaches go on for what seems like forever. The water is very warm. Great little shops and places to eat. The fresh seafood is amazing. Very scenic and great for pictures. The trail to Teach's Hole is a nice little walk through a wooded area only to open up to a wonderful little area on the sound side. Also the boat tour to Portsmouth is awesome. Portsmouth is very remote and great for shelling. Just make sure to take the bug spray. All in all awesome place to be. I will be going again in the future. 8/2020: Back to this beautiful island again for another year. Wow we were worried about the island following hurricane Dorian and then another punch of trouble due to COVID. But this is such an amazing place with great people who will not let this island stay down. I truly do enjoy everything this island has to offer. It is an extra trek sound from the famous OBX but Ocracoke ranks much higher to me. See some amazing pictures.

Ocracoke ended up being more of a checklist item. Its very small, and overall there is very little to see and do. For me it was more of the experience. If you have a day to spare while in OBX its neat to check out, but you're certainly not missing anything if you dont make it. If you plan to take your car over on the ferry, do your research about the best time to go. We thought that going mid-morning (to beat the early morning rush) and going mid-week (to avoid the weekend crowds) would work, but turns out everyone else had the same exact plan, and ended up wasting several hours just to get a ferry ride over

Great campsite and rangers but too much unnecessary generator use including during quiet hours on the three areas that allow generator use.

Ocracoke - my place of calm and renewal since 1999. When I asked my son what he wanted as a graduation gift, he asked to go back to Ocracoke Island. We booked our trip in Jan. 2022 for Spring Break, April 13 - 18, 2022. Aside from ferry scheduling issues, our trip was seamless and absolutely worth the 13 hr. drive. Ocracoke never disappoints. Looks like another year for #1 beach in the US! Reservations 6 mos. - 1 year ahead and ferry reservations HIGHLY recommended.

A place of natural beauty! There are not any traffic lights. Bring your bike or enjoy a nice walk. Have some good food.
