I ate at the Hôtel restaurant Odette twice because it was freezing outside, and difficult to get around. First night I had the pumpkin soup and scallops. Soup was OK, not remarkable. I was surprised the “Serrano” was chopped smoky ham in the soup, not the Serrano chili pepper I expected. Scallops were good, vegetables were a bit too crunchy, close to raw.
Second night I had the crab maki, which was basically shredded crab wrapped sitting on a bed of shredded celery. Celery taste was overpowering and it reminded me of the detox smoothies I’ve made that have acidic celery pith left at the bottom of the glass. Crab was unremarkable. Ok for simple protein but… I can cook better than this dish. I also had the duck that evening, that was the best dish. Crispy skin, cooked well, flavorful sauce. It came with potatoes which didnt have much flavor and small mushrooms that were good.
They give you two amuse bouche, one was a cheddar puff with an overpowering amount of cream cheese in it. The other a veloute (soup?) with foam and small chopped vegetables in it. I don’t appreciate the “foam” it seems fancy but is just a gross texture to me.
Their menu is pretty limited. I wish they had simple salad as a starter option I would’ve liked that much better. Wines that I tried were good. All said I’d eat here again and maybe just do the duck and a dessert (I didn’t try dessert either day).
