Oeste offers a lively atmosphere with multicultural bites and tunes, perfect for a laid-back meal on the ground level or rooftop.
"This Old Oakland bar and restaurant has the ideal rooftop for snacking on shrimp and grits, fried brussels sprouts, and steak frites. Cocktails, beer, wine, and weekend brunch that starts at 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday are all extra reasons to stop by." - Lauren Saria, Eater Staff
"Villalobos, who runs the bar/cafe/restaurant Oeste in Old Oakland, agrees. “People of color have to own more of Oakland,” she told me in early March 2020." - Kathryn Campo Bowen
"The downtown Oakland bar and restaurant has a new takeout menu, with offerings like red beans and rice, crispy catfish strips, and a fried chicken sandwich. Open for takeout and delivery Tuesday through Saturday, 11:30 a.m.–7:30 p.m. Order online." - Luke Tsai
"Lea Redmond, Anna Villalobos, and Sandra Davis are behind Oeste, where the drinks are fine and the chicken wings leave the proper film of insulating fats in your system, but it’s the upstairs setting you want to seek out. Rooftop bars are rare in Oakland (I can think of only one other, at Mad Oak Bar), and Oeste — though it’s just one story above the street — is a beauty, especially at sunset, when everybody seated on the outdoor sofas appears washed in gold. "This spot from Bay Area natives Sandra Davis, Lea Redmond, and Anna Villalobos (also a co-owner over at Miss Ollie’s!) is so dope, I went twice in less than 24 hours—first for a drink, then for brunch the next morning. We ordered the shrimp and grits (topped with bacon bits and chives) to split, but I ended up devouring the whole thing. Luckily there were flaky biscuits and gravy, loaded with fennel seeds and ground pork, to smooth things over. Next time I’m in Oakland, odds are good you’ll find me at Oeste." - ByRyan Walker-Hartshorn
