Where to Eat and Drink Around Rehoboth and Dewey Beach | Eater DC

"Serving scallops, crab cakes, and other seafood specialties, Off the Hook is another Bethany Beach favorite for straightforward seafood dishes. The pristine, light-flooded interior features a large, boldly colored murals of cephalopods along the white walls. The seafood standby recently added weekend brunch, too. Happy hour deals run from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m." - Julekha Dash

Hadn’t been to OTH in a while - but really glad we stopped in for what was a fabulous meal! Sat at a high top in bar area - great service and atmosphere. They’ve done a great job with updating the decor! My wife had the pan seared scallops and I had the cold smoked salmon. Both were excellent! My wife also got the braised bacon beans and raved about them. Very nice cocktail menu (blackberry gin smash 😎) - the whole experience made for a great night out. Will be back!!

Our first time and it was absolutely wonderful. We were in town for my birthday celebrating. Judy was our server and was great at suggestions. We started with the crab and corn soup! Get this if you love cream of crab, the sweetness from the corn complemented it beautifully. I had the tuna tataki and it was just what I wanted. Rare and full of flavor from the sauce. For dinner: We had the surf and Turf with delicious filet and perfectly cooked scallops. I had the stuffed fish with burre blanc sauce and wanted to lick the plate. The mashed potato’s were some of the best I have ever had!! We finished with cinnamon bread pudding and it was a perfect way to end the meal. We will definitely come back!!!

Google
Wonderful fresh ingredients, quality seafood, and more. Was greeted by the restaurant proprietor who made us feel welcome. The service was excellent. Close but far enough away from the beach crowd to enjoy the hometown feeling. Off the Hook will become one of our favorites when we are in the area.

Everything was just perfect. Delicious as always. We love the atmosphere at Off the Hook! Pesto Fries are soooooo good!

Google
We came for an early dinner. I loved the shrimp salad on a pretzel roll, our son loved his fried shrimp and my husband really enjoyed the crab and lobster salad sandwich. The Parmesan fries are DELICIOUS! They are a must try. Our server was excellent - friendly and knowledgeable. When I asked about mocktails, he said he'd make me something himself (off the menu). So good! Family friendly too!

Google
Cute and busy restaurant with outstanding service and very good food. While entrée portions are on the small side the food is delicious. The dinning area is nicely decorated and tables are nicely spaced. The high tops at the bar area (front of the establishment) are a bit closer and this area has a higher noise level.

Google
Always great food and great service. Food is presented well and is always fresh.

Google
We loved this place so much we went back 2 days running. The charred dates were delicious and nutty. The calamari light and cooked perfectly. The halibut roasted in a bag was so flavorful and the scallops and rest of the seafood was plump and exquisite. We just finished the key lime pie (house made) - oh boy. Yum. Everyone here was so friendly - the service was excellent - I was brought drink refills both days without asking right when i was empty. Thoroughly recommend

Martha V.

Yelp
Very happy with our experience. We had the mixed green salad with the most flavorful vinaigrette I've ever had, the buttermilk cod and scallops. The restaurant was busy but not loud even on a holiday weekend. Highly recommend

Yelp
I wish I had pictures to add but by the time I realized I should have taken them only crumbs were left. Eggs Benedict, burger, Cesar salad, boom boom chicken were all spectacular and I would highly recommend. They were also quick which I always appreciate. There drinks are strong and a good option for happy hour. Overall beautiful, clean and would recommend if you are needing a new spot added to your Delaware beach restaurant roster.

Yelp
As you can see from my many prior reviews this is one of my top five places for happy hour dinners. I am usually here every Wednesday for happy hour dinner. I will summarize my four most recent off season visits for lunch and happy hour dinners with our friends. This was my first time here for lunch. I was here with my family and friends. We sat at the bar. I opted for their $15 lunch pairings, which includes any 2 items of the following selections from their soups, salads and handhelds available 11:30 AM to 4 PM daily. I opted for the chicken soup of the day and half of the shrimp roll with shrimp salad, butter, lemon and lettuce. My soup and shrimp roll were very tasty. Bartender Chandra served us very well. On our usual Wednesday my friends and I were lucky to secure six bar stools together for our 4 pm happy hour. I enjoyed my usual two cosmos for $7 each or $14 total followed by my Troegs draft stout for $6. I also enjoyed my half price ($36 discounted to $18) spice-crusted tuna, which was perfectly cooked per my usual request ahi style. See my pics. This time my spice-crusted tuna did not include figs. This spice-crusted tuna was served with za'atar dusted hummus, east view farms mushrooms and eggplant salsa macha. My total bill was $60. I used my second gift card to pay my bill. Our usual bartender Dennis served us all very well, since he has known us since 2021. We returned here with our friends for happy hour dinner on Wednesday. They recently updated their Tuesday through Thursday 1/2 priced menu entrees. I enjoyed the recently added lobster linguine with blue crab, roasted tomatoes, smoke bacon, peas in a garlic roasted cream sauce for $45 or $22.50 at 1/2 price. The linguine was properly cooked, but I wish this dish included more lobster. We returned here for our usual Wednesday happy hour with our friends. I enjoyed my usual cosmos. I also enjoyed my medium rare porcini dusted filet mignon steak with yukon gold mash potatoes, creamed spinach and port demi sauce for $45, which was discounted down to $22.50. My filet was properly cooked and tasted great. I could not finish my filet and vegetables, which I took home for tomorrow's lunch. On my most recent visit I again enjoyed my filet except this time I was able to fish my filet. I ended my dinners with the Fiddleheads "HODAD" (5.5% abv) porter brewed with house toasted coconut, cacao nibs, vanilla bean and lactose for $6. My two total bills were $75.50 and $81. I applied my second gift card to both dinners. Our usual bartender Dennis again served us very well. We always enjoy our conversations with bartenders Dennis and Chandra. We all agreed we will continue to visit here for lunch or happy hour dinners.

Yelp
Stopped for lunch today while passing through the area. Service was outstanding, we had the lunch pick 2. I had Shrimp Po-boy and soup of day. My wife had chicken salad wrap and wedge salad. All food was very tasty. Restaurant was very clean! We will be back again

Yelp
One of several hook restaurants . We started with a beet and arugula salad. Fresh ingredients with a nice vinaigrette got us off to a good start. Complementary bread slices and seasoned olive oil accompanied the salad spoke to the generosity of the restaurant. Speaking about largess, the restaurant started its buy one entree, get a lesser priced one free on Tuesday through Thursday. This deal is off season only. October through May. I had the halibut. It was cooked perfectly leaving it moist and tender. It was a humus for texture, wild mushrooms and onions that popped. My wife had scallops over polenta and corn chutney. The latter was great, and the halibut was excellent (i am allergic ) according to my wife. Both of our entrees had generous port Alas, too full for dessert, but it should be obvious. This is a can't miss restaurant.

Yelp
Lobster tacos were mostly rubber part and mayo. Didn't realize there's a $5.18 charge for credit card. Didn't bring out a water for my son. My friend said her steak was the best steak she's ever eaten. I thought the fish dip was inedible.

Yelp
Have been here many times on each trip to Bethany area. Off the hook always a good option. Latest trip was maybe not quite as smooth, menu seems to have narrowed and have less choices. We sat in the the dining room and one of my boys wanted something off the other menu which they made difficult. Then I ordered the grilled wahoo, they brought me the tiniest bit of fish I kind of laughed. I'm not someone who needs a huge portion to be happy but it was about the size of 2 thumbs. I saw someone else nearby had one twice the size. I didn't really want to make a fuss as was there with my mum for a nice meal, made a quick remark to the waitress and she was very snarky. Anyhow it's a good spot, maybe they are just undergoing some changes.

Yelp
Parking was almost non existent Food was good but I went specifically for fish and chips. Not even close to my expectations Salad was great and plenty

Yelp
This restaurant is anything but: ( add name of restaurant here) The food was an over compensation of style, taste, and execution. Let's start with my drink. I order a raspberry mint julep. First off...no. A mint julep just needs to be only..... My first dish ordered was there "staple" shrimp n grits w pulled pork. Again...no. At this point that's called a variation of shrimp gumbo. Ain't no shrimp n grits has any beef in it whatsoever. Also, the ration to shrimp n grits was 70/ 30. Last bit on this dish: All art, no flavor. Dish #1 sent back Dish # 2 ordered: jerk checkin wings w an added side of "sweet potatoe pie". Wings? Yes those were good. The "pie"? A) not a pie B) not sweet. Nor a potato. This one tasted sour. The claims were of notes w nosh, nutmeg, and Cinnamon. Ummm, when 3 people taste it and don't taste said notes....that ain't it. Side dish #1 sent back. Service: I do appreciate the patience with me since I had made several sent backs. So I thank you said staff for working with me Ambiance: listen..i get that here in DE it's the season of Flys...but to have them indoors and constantly flying around my legs....not only is it annoying.... At least we had a citronella candle brought out to our table to sit on top (if you the reader is curious...it didn't help)

Daniel R M.

Yelp
The boom boom shrimp was killer. ...literally my friend had it and when it was cut it exploded. It was very fast service, and had a very scary vibe to it

Yelp
Love this restaurant! We eat here once or twice every time we come to Bethany. Never disappoints. Ingredients are fresh and yummy. Would eat here every night of our visit if I could. Dishes are creative. Nice ambience as well. Wait staff is always friendly.

Yelp
I met a friend in Bethany for lunch today. Off season, there are fewer places open. Neither one of us had dined at Off the Hook before, but it was a home run--I'm so glad we found it! We shared the calamari appetizer. It was really tasty and just the right amount of crunchy. I ordered the fish sandwich. It came on a really nice brioche bun. The fish was hot & the coating was very tasty. They serve pesto fries, which I was not sure about, but they were wonderful! The place has a nice bar and the decorations are very stylish. There are several seating areas--hightops, regular tables, and a booth or two. Something for everyone. The service was friendly.

Yelp
This place is always worth the wait! Everything on the Off The Hook menu is delicious, it's hard to choose- so I usually get more than I could ever eat (there are a lot of to-go bags!) Our waitress, Aidee was wonderful! She was very knowledgeable of the menu and the specials and made sure we were enjoying ourselves !

Jerry J.

Yelp
First time dining at Off The Hook. We ate at the bar, the cosmos were delicious well made. Tuna and Crab soup appetizers very good. We shared the fish and chips also delicious. Would definitely recommend and be returning.

Yelp
TLDR: Do not trust these people, about anything that isn't written down. Our very charming waiter was deceptive about the house special and never disclosed that it was nearly the price of two entrees. Despite the food being good, we left our meal feeling lied to, feeling like these people were one step away from thievery. The food was pretty good, but our waiter was deceptive. He advertised the house special as being a surf and turf that combined the filet mignon with some of their seafood. He pointed out the filet on the menu, and started talking about the surf and turf combo without ever mentioning the price. No special menu was ever provided, so the only price we had to compare it to was the price of the filet. One member of my party even asked to substitute a side. The waiter said it would simply be $2 more, and she happily agreed, not knowing that the special was already $25 more than the filet: he conveniently left that part out. When the check came, we paid it, not wanting to make a scene, but it was disgusting treatment. The price wasn't worth the combo either, the surf part of the combo included the surf part of the entree, but we could have ordered the full entree with sides included for only $9 more.

Yelp
TikTok recommended this spot and we are glad we took the recommendation!!! Loved the ambiance!! Food was delicious!! Our server, Cameron, provided great customer service and answered all the questions we asked.

Yelp
What a great Cinco de Mayo experience last night. Great food, great margaritas, and a really great waitress. We got there and thought it would be a 45 minute wait. Lucky us they managed to seat us in less than 10 minutes. Thank you OFF THE HOOK.
google avatar

Yelp
Off the hook has a really cool vibe and an amazing selection to choose from we started with the hummus, the Greek salad and the fish salad. I don't know the seasoning on the pita bread, but it was a little strong. Everything else was flavorful and exceptionally prepared I ordered the muscles Diablo and I must say, it was pretty spicy but good. Crab court chowder was excellent. My family also ordered the fish and chips and said it was a nice hardy piece of fish. We had excellent service. I definitely would go back and recommend you try this place. We were too full for dessert.

Yelp
Party of four on Friday night for the equinox dinner really enjoyed all the food & drinks the cooking presentation was great and so was the service
google avatar

Yelp
tasty but prices way up! used to be affordable option in Bethany beach. Still good but 45 dollar entrees!

Yelp
Went to Off the Hook back on Fourth of July weekend with my partner and his family for our vacation "fancy" dinner. On a weekend night, they sat us outside almost immediately, but I watched a few families wait 30+ minutes for indoor seating. The way the neighboring buildings lined up, there was ample shade during our early evening meal, which made for a great July-at-the-beach dinner experience. It seemed like they have a daily-changing menu, just one page. 3/5 of us ordered the Crab Cakes, served on a bed of couscous salad. The crab cakes were fist sized and extremely delicious, but the other two in my party found multiple large shell fragments (half the size of a penny) in their cakes. The manager came out and apologized, and a few weeks later, they mailed a gift card. I also ordered a pretty cocktail off the menu, but I don't remember which one. The waitress was very knowledgeable and patient, and she was quite familiar with the food and drink menus, happy to offer suggestions for my father in law's wine.
google avatar

Jennifer A.

Yelp
Our server David was excellent. We enjoyed the 1/2 off bottle of wine on a Friday night and the food was very tasty. We really enjoyed the use of spices in all the dishes.

Anthony C.

Yelp
Food is great, service exceptionally well provided, Ambiance is cool.. Pick two: chicken ( Korean firebird) sandwich and chicken couscous soup is over the top excellent Chandra serves up a delicious strawberry cheesecake too.

Yelp
One of the best restaurants in Bethany hands down. The food & service are reliably great. The menu is always fresh & daily specials off season are amazing. Weds was 1/2 off entree night - not to be missed!! My shrimp & grits was wonderful- grits were creamy & the shrimp was delightful. Lots of flavor! My husband got the pork chop w sweet potato whip & it was a little disappointing in that it was more of tenderloin than a chop & they were little light on the whip. However it was beautifully cooked & delicious which is all that matters

Yelp
It's full of octopuses inside. Atmosphere was cute. Didn't hear the music, but not too loud with everyone talking. Happy hour was great until six at the high tops. Drinks were good. The espresso martini didn't have real espresso only cold brew in it, but it was still good. my sister asked for no bacon in her linguine with clams and she got bacon in it, but we were able to send it back for another one. Everything tasted amazing! Will be going back!

Yelp
This was a takeout order during recent weekend in Bethany Beach with my boyfriend, and overall a great pick! We enjoyed the fish tacos, crab mac and cheese, and the boom boom shrimp - all of which were delicious. Takeout packaging here is really great which I always appreciate, especially in restaurants that are more known for their dine in service like this one. They have a top notch happy hour menu as well, and I look forward to dining in on future trips. Prices are overall reasonable and you can typically expect a wait on busy summer weekends.

P C.

Yelp
Great Happy Hour. Dennis is great at the bar. Others not as good. Off season specials are a great deal. Portions are very small.

Yelp
It is about principles, service, and integrity. That is the reason for lower stars. Off The Hook website states they have 1/2 priced entrees from Tuesday to Thursdays. However, once we were seated, we found out that on Christmas week this was not honored. They said there was a said beside the door. First of all, it is not about the money, it is about principal and service. Our waitress was a lovely young lady. She actually brought over the manager per the request of myself and my husband. He apologized and added by saying it is hard to change the website, I find that hard to believe, he then offered a round of drinks, we do not drink, he said dessert would be on him. When the bill came only one dessert was paid for. If a restaurant advertises specials, they should be honored to show that they have integrity and care about a customer, whether local or not. It is only about principle. We also listened to another table talk about the same situation. Having knowledge of the food industry, this was not handled in the most professional way that an upscale restaurant should do. It is the whole package for long term continued success. Hopefully, they will step it up going forward. Unfortunately we will not be going back. Fortunately, the area does have many other great restaurants. With that said; Very nice atmosphere. The food was delicious, great portions and even the desserts were great. Still took care of our waitress since this was not her error. Sorry guys you had your chance, twice this evening.

Craig B.

Yelp
It is off season so we got a table right away. My wife and I both had fish from the menu which was fantastic. Our server Brenna was great as she never left our drinks go empty, plus she was always checking in to be sure everything was good. To finish the meal, the key lime pie was one of the better ones I had in a long time. Highly recommend having dinner here
google avatar

Abdou B.

Yelp
Cute place for our first night in Bethany Beach. Did my research and this place was highly rated (thank you yelpers!!) the menu is quite interesting and we tried multiple things off the menu. The food and the service were both very good (things came out fast and was delish). Will visit again

Emek K.

Yelp
Off the Hook is a gem. The ambiance is lovely, with octopus murals and tiny lamps on each table and the decor, it's wonderful. We were very surprised the minute we stepped in. The food is excellent. So so good. I got tuna with zarar and eggplant hummus&oyster mushrooms. My company got blue catfish that came with fried rice which was also phenomenal. This place is not to be missed.
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
I want to like this place. The service is pleasant. The food is delicious. The reason why I'm not giving them full marks is because they don't mark their menu for food allergies. In my case, I'm allergic to gluten. I was told that I had to ask. Really? I had to wait to ask the waitstaff, they then conferred with the chef, then they got back with me. A large part of eating out is the experience. This routine dampens my enjoyment. It's frustrating and makes a five-star experience a four-star experience. The fire roasted octopus was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The shishito peppers were fabulous (yuzu mayo...so good). The crispy cauliflower was almost as tasty. The beet and arugula salad was not too shabby either. When you eat at Off the Hook (which you should)---please remind them to mark their menu for allergies and not to treat many of their customers (including me) like second-class diners. If the dish is naturally gluten-free, mark it, it's not that difficult.
google avatar

Meredith I.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped here on our way to OC. It had been many years since we'd been there and it was so nice inside. We were seated right away and drink orders were taken. I got a berry mojito that was delicious! Husband got a delicious cocktail as well. I ordered a crab cake sandwich- it was good- not outstanding but it was fresh and had a lot of crab . He had fish tacos that he really enjoyed. The pesto fries were better than I expected. We heard there was only one person in the kitchen, but there was no real delay . The menu is a bit limited but I would definitely recommend it.

Mike R.

Yelp
Went to Off The Hook again while in town. This would be our 3rd time here. We have come here every year and every time we were extremely happy with the food. We started with Calamari and then had the Scallops dish and the Cioppino. Both dishes were amazing and we finished off with a special pumpkin bread pudding with vanilla ice cream and drizzled caramel. It was Off The Hook! We will look forward to the next time we are in town.
google avatar

Eric B.

Yelp
There's lots of seating even though they don't take reservations. The service was very good, the atmosphere is nice and lively and fun. The food was absolutely outstanding. The fish and chips were some of the best I've ever had. Also cocktails are very good.
google avatar

Audrey O.

Yelp
The food was just really really good. The appetizers were massive so if you are a party of two, three appetizers would be more than enough to feel STUFFED. Here is what we ordered: 1. Fish Tacos- These were bomb and LARGE, definitely enough for one person. The pickled onions were awesome making you go in for the next bite and the next. 2. Crab Dip- Large for the size so good value as a shareable. Was there a lot of crab? No. Was it large enough to justify the price? Yes. 3. Octopus-You must order this. The octopus was spectacular and extremely tender with these delicious fried potatoes and a chimichurri sauce. To die for. 4. Mussels in Tomato Broth: If you are a mussel fan this is definitely an order. The mussels were BEAUTIFULLY cooked and delicate. A treatise to mussels. I will say the tomato broth was a bit runny and lacked some depth for me...so would love to see a white wine garlic cream broth with the mussels instead hit the menu. If that happened I would be running back to this establishment. One of the best finer restaurants we have tried in the area and can't wait to return!
google avatar

Vivian R.

Yelp
We went to Off the Hook for the first time last night and the experience was great! The restaurant wasn't crowded when we arrived and we decided to sit at the bar to get drinks and appetizers. The bartender, Kelly, was extremely friendly and personable. For drinks, we ordered an orange crush and a Nanticoke nectar. For appetizers, we had the pesto fries and boom boom shrimp. Both appetizers came out very quick and were large portions. The boom boom shrimp had a very tasty sauce and it wasn't spicy. The pesto fries were very good, however pretty messy because they had a lot of oil on them. The inside of the restaurant was an under the sea theme and they had octopuses painted on the walls. The decor was very beachy as well. We will definitely be back soon!
google avatar

Mindy G.

Yelp
Enjoyed a delicious meal this evening. The Secret Garden cocktail was a nice gin -forward drink ...so refreshing. The Tuna was so flavorful that I wanted to lick the plate but the best part was the service...the hostess, bartender and my server, David, were so sweet and attentive to a solo diner. The only monkey wrench in the works is the parking....I have tried to dine here several time and could never find a place to park. I am so glad that I was persistent...it was well worth the wait.
google avatar

Kathy M.

Yelp
Best food ever! Off the beaten path, great atmosphere and fresh local food! The crab soup was to die for. Great wine selection as well!

Helik S.

Yelp
To clarify: Food deserves 4 stars, all else is 2-3: inattentive and careless service attitude (we were not offered bread and we later noticed other tables were given bread), tired decor (old carpet needs a face lift). We wouldn't be as critical had the pricing been more reasonable and straight forward: We didn't appreciate the "convenience fee" of 3.5% for the convenience of using a credit card: is anybody paying cash at such an expensive restaurant? In our opinion the food, good as it is, does not justify the very high price.

Marty H.

Yelp
This was great! Went on a Monday night w $2 taco's, which were great! Different soecials every night...great off season joint!

Richard L.

Yelp
We had been to 'Of the Hook' several years ago while on vacation and did not enjoy our dining experience (e.g., noisy, and the service and food was just okay). We (3 adults) decided to try again this past Labor Day weekend as we were staying in the area. We didn't have reservations but only had a short wait time before being seated. We were seated at a high top table near the bar which was a little noisy with the bar patrons but manageable. We ordered seafood entrees that were very good and a bottle of wine that was moderately priced. The service was very good and our waitress was very informative, attentive and a pleasure to interact with. Afterwards we agreed that the dining experience was much better this time and would consider dining there next summer when we return for vacation.

Yelp
What a lovely dining experience in the heart of Bethany. You can tell this restaurant's ownership takes great pride in their attention to detail as every intricacy from the sweet bread and oil to start, to the delicious mixed drinks and cocktails. The food was a hit as well. Size-able apps, we ordered the mussels which were enormous and bursting with flavor. Could've used more bread to soak up he delicious juice. The smoked fish dip was excellent as well. For my main I ordered the shrimp and grits, which has a similar base sauce as the mussels but the pairing with the cheesy grits was a perfect combo. The ambiance is calm, and nice homey feel too it with very cool decor throughout the restaurant. The bar was packed from 3-6pm as the happy hour special seem to be great at the bar during that time. Definitely try this place out if you're in town.

Yelp
Visited on a Friday evening, we were 3 and were seated immediately. There was a 1/2 price special on bottles of wine! Wow! We had 3 appies and 2 salads. The Buffalo Brussel sprouts with goat cheese was my favorite. Also yummy was the Boom Boom shrimp. The salads were so satisfying. Our server was knowledgeable and sweet. The dishes arrived quickly, yet we were not rushed. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Bill A.

Yelp
Great selection of seafood, prepared in a perfect way. Great food, perfect atmosphere for dining, best of all the staff is very friendly and the kitchen is fast.

Yelp
We arrived an hour ago to BB and just wanted a quick burger for dinner. Went to the bar area and had good burgers and boom boom shrimp as an appetizer. Brenna was our waitress and she was excellent. Happy Hour prices (before 6 pm) are terrific.

Yelp
Food was delicious!! Our waitress was incredible, so sweet, and got everything out to us promptly. Unfortunately, we had to sit outside because the building was quite smoky inside and some people in our party have asthma. There were lots of mosquitoes so I got bitten lots. But I would totally recommend
