The Best Hot Dogs in Portland, and Where to Find Them - Eater Portland

"East Portland’s birria-to-frankfurter ratio may be high, but the Eastport Food Carts pod on Southeast 82nd features one of Portland’s best dogs. Plus, with 25 carts and tons of outdoor and indoor seating, hot dog lovers can bring friends and family who prefer less meaty fare. Off The Leash Chicago commits faithfully to the Chicago style, for both topping-laden dogs and juicy Italian beef sandwiches. Onion lovers will wade through a mountain of caramelized onions to find the third-pound Polish dog underneath — those seeking a wider harmony of flavors need look no further than the 12” Chicago dog, topped with pickle, tomatoes, eye-popping green relish, onions, peppers, and sesame salt. All dogs are customizable with classic or garlic-and-fennel field roast vegan dogs." - Nathan Williams

Definitely coming back for the delicious Italian Beef sandwich. Just the right amount of heat on the crunchy giardiniera with soft chewy bread that complements the yummy gravy and beef. Everything stays intact! Owner was super friendly and answered a few questions I had. After watching The Bear, my partner and I have been on a mission to find and eat every Italian Beef sandwich in the pdx area. Highly recommend!!

A late review, but three weekends ago, my wife and I were looking for a place to eat lunch on the SE side of Portland and we ran into this Eastport Food Carts and found this gem in the mix. The service was awesome and the owner was very personal! He introduced us to the Italian beef and sausage combo, and we ordered both the combo and just the beef (Chicago style). He also explained into the details on how the beef was made and the dipping of the sandwich into the sauce (definitely try the dipping!). It was definitely a new experience. The beef slices were tasty and moist, and NO stale smell like some other places we've tried. This is definitely a must try place. Also, if you are not a spicy food eater, beware that this can be quite spicy. Overall, it was not just a great food experience, but it was very educational experience as well.

I was looking forward to visiting this cart and both the food and service didn't disappoint. The owner took great pains to make sure my dietary needs were met and to give me a good value. Rare in this day and age. I'll be eating here again and recommend you check it out too!

Moved here from Chicago awhile ago and was craving Portillo's like crazy. Didn't think I'd find anything close to a Chicago dog in the PNW but I punched "hot dogs" into google maps and was shocked to find this place nearby! I could have cried!! Got two dogs and crinkly fries. Not a single ingredient missing or out of place and everything is authentic, down to the poppy seed bun and Vienna beef, which are shipped here from the windy city itself. Listen to the other reviewers - this place is legit and Tony is wonderfully friendly. Worth every penny. I will be back when I want to treat myself to a good taste of home!

The Italian Beef Sandwich is legit. Good flavor, good spice, and great portion. Staff was fast, friendly and courteous. Will be back many times!

The best Chicago beef sandwich I've had in a decade, and *by far* the best in Portland. If you love Portillo's or Al's Beef and are homesick because you can't have them, and none of the other local offerings will suffice (I've tried them all, and they don't), then come home to Off The Leash and let Tony feed you. He'll treat you like family.
