DJ Young Venom’s Black‑owned record and comic shop doubles as an art gallery and micro‑venue. Recently relocated downtown, it curates Mississippi music, design toys, and under‑the‑radar shows that showcase Jackson’s creative pulse.

I've been coming here for years. It's the first Black comic store in Mississippi and one of the last real record stores. Offbeat is a culture shop and one of the true hearts of the city. Art, music, vintage clothing, toys, not to mention the events. Not only do they support local artists but they also are a hub of community involvement, emerging young artists, and small business support in the city. Jackson needs Offbeat and you should stop by and support. Everyone is welcome unless you're an entitled (expletive deleted).

Google
This store focuses mainly on comicbooks, vinyl records, and some figurines. The owner is very knowledgeable of all these topics and very nice! They definitely care about the community and want everyone to enjoy what they sale. No one can truly compare with their prices. What you see is what ypu pay. I definitely will be returning!

One of the coolest shops I've been to. So much art around the wall. So much just cool stuff. They pretty much have something for everyone. And they have an amazing record selection. Definitely think everyone in jackson should visit this place. Staff was very nice and welcoming. Love this place.

At the risk of sounding like Stefon, this place has everything. I especially found the collection of vinyl records memory-evoking. I learned about OffBeat from the business' occasionally being featured on the podcast Marketplace. I recommend it to folks visiting Jackson.

After hearing of the passing of Roy Ayers, I rushed to inquire about purchasing a record. I spoke with the owner, who was incredibly knowledgeable and polite. I've sincerely received my record by mail and the packaging was perfect for its trip from Mississippi to PA. Thank you for making sure it arrived safely.

The first time I walked into Offbeat, I knew it wouldn’t be my last. Whether I’m stopping in for an album for the collection, an action figure for the shelf, or just going to sit and enjoy the magic of a chill day with friends, I know I won’t be disappointed at Offbeat.

Wow! Awesome collection of records, comic books, buttons, clothing items, and toys to shop through! This is shop has something for everyone. The students enjoyed shopping as much as finding out about the young entrepreneur that owns Offbeat. This is a comicbook/record lover's dream to shop or sit and listen to music. We will definitely be back again.

Met the owner, Phillip, and thoroughly enjoyed the shop. We walked out with comics, manga, pins, and a great experience.

Yelp
The best place in central Mississippi to purchase comics. When you create a comic pull list, you actually get everything you have requested. The owner even took time to help me go through some back issues to find specific comics I was looking for. And get this, he actually charges you cover price instead of finding the highest listed price of the book on eBay like other scummy comic shops are known to do. Offbeat deserves your business.

Yelp
If you haven't been to Offbeat recently I highly recommend stopping by and checking out the spot. The owner, Phillip, is very knowledgeable and the variety of music can't be beat, locally or elsewhere in my opinion. The shop also offers a wide variety of comics, graphic novels, collectibles and clothes. Do yourself a favor and support your local record shop. If you are passing thru the area please stop and check out the cultivated selections they have to offer. You won't regret it.

Yelp
I admit I'm biased. I'm partial to small businesses. Having owned a small business staffing 30+ employees, I understand being accountable for each customer interaction. I have an appreciation for establishing strong ties with the local community. I get the impression OffBeat has done a great job doing so with their local community. That being said, I am very disappointed with the poor customer service I received from OffBeat. I was in town filming a small production. When traveling I make a point to support small business, particularly minority owned. I've been building a small art collection as of late and stumbled upon OffBeat. They have a nice assortment of comics, figurines, vinyls and various pieces of local artistry. After giving the owner, Phillip, a general idea of what I was looking for he pulled out a few beautiful prints by a local artist. After selecting two for purchase he handed me the prints. Prints aren't cheap and while I didn't break the bank on these, I didn't want to carry them out without any sort of packaging. The owner found a pair of vinyl record jackets to use. I was skeptical because of the size difference. I voiced my concern, but the owner assured me it would work as he used the vinyl covers in the past. When I removed the prints they were creased from the poor packaging. After several failed attempts I finally able to contact OffBeat. I was given the option to have the prints replaced if I covered the shipping. Why would I pay additional monies for an honest mistake made by the business? The owner was unapologetic and reluctantly agreed to ship out replacements. After a couple weeks no replacements, no updates from the owner. I left emails and voicemails. Still no response. Finally, I was able to catch the owner on the phone. He was clearly annoyed and blamed the delay on the artist. Either way, he should've been proactive with the updates. A couple days later I received an email with a tracking number. ..no content, no sorry for the delay or message of any sort. Just a tracking number. Very passive-aggressive. This time the prints came even worse than before. They were coiled into a scroll and then creased like a letter. Unacceptable. Any business selling art should respect the craft enough to package properly. There's no way I can frame a print with creases. I'm sure they usually do a better job, but OffBeat was completely off base and dropped the ball with a customer looking to support a local artist and small business. I rated two star because the selection is solid. The owner is young and has room to mature in his handling of customer issues.

Yelp
Friendly, helpful staff. Great store with an extensive selection of records, thrifted clothing, and niche toy. Awesome artwork on most of the walls. We passed through on a roadtrip to Dallas & would recommend as an interesting local stop.

Yelp
Phillip is really cool. The store has a great vibe. We went in not knowing it was appointment only but he still allowed my brother and I to roam around. We found some really dope records Bobby Womack, Lenny Williams, Run DMC, Johnny Taylor, Chaka Khan and Rufus, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. I love old school and my brother and I cracked jokes while we searched through records. I love the vibe of the store. I really like pins as well and I got some really dope ones there. I don't live in MS, but I will definitely return again.

Yelp
The owner, DJ Venom, was awesome. Knowledgeable. Consistently attentive. Really enjoyed having a personal appointment and allowed to safely browse. There were gloves, masks and hand sanitizer available when I entered. I appreciated the visit and will continue to shop virtually since I don't like in Jackson.

Yelp
This is personally one of my favorite spots in Jackson, MS. Grab a beer and browse the graphic novels & comics, dig through records, ask about the vinyl figures, and observe the local artwork that's curated in the shop. It's amazing that this place is going on six years of business and the owner continues to work diligently to keep the shop locally based and diversified for every customer. If you have questions while in the store, ask. He knows his shop forwards and backwards. If you have time, check out any of the events going on after store hours. Whether it's a rock show, hip-hop showcase, or just an easy kickback with DJ's spinning, you will be greeted by plenty of locals supporting a pillar in their local community.

Yelp
If I had to describe Offbeat in one word it would be: awesome! It's a comic shop, music venue, art gallery, collectible and designer toy store, vinyl store, and just a cool spot to hang out all in one. I love the diverse culture here, and the owner Philip is one of the coolest and nicest guya around! He also has some pretty sweet DJ skills! If you're looking for a specific comic our manga that's not in store, Philip will try and get a copy for you. Be sure to check www.offbeatjxn.com for events listing, because there's always something going on. I'm currently a member of the monthly comic book club, and I thoroughly enjoy it! They also have music and art shows that cover a multitude of genres. And sometimes it's just fun to come chill with a beer and read a good comic on the couch.

Yelp
Best spot in the city for the culture. Everything about offbeat says dope , even the owner Dj Venom. Comics , vinyl, t-shirts and more , it's a great spot to chill. The shows there are always clutch no matter what genre of music you like , they even have comedy shows. I recommend you check it out if you haven't , you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
Easily one of the coolest places in Jackson. The fact that Phillip books bands and artists to perform here sets it over the edge of coolness. As far as a store goes, it's not the biggest selection, but the selection that is there is high quality in vinyl, comics, and vinyl art/toys. The only downside is that it's not open all the time, but Phillip is super helpful and will do whatever he can to help you find what you're looking for. If you've never been, make sure to go. If you're into comics or music, at all, you've got to go there.

Yelp
One of the dopest places in the city! Whether you want to purchase comics, manga, or figurines, they have it all! Offbeat has a great atmosphere with great staff and a very nice beer selection. The vinyl is always on point and the DJ/Owner is super cold. I have played this place on several occasions and it's a very intimate setting for artists if you're ever looking at venues.

Yelp
Love this place! Best Gundam and collections of TPBs and Graphic Novels in the tri-county area.
