"There is nothing flashy, nothing haute about Ogden’s North Street Diner. It is cute, it is tidy, but it is ultimately neither more nor less than a neighborhood diner. But it’s such a perfect neighborhood diner, complete with charming decor, short hours, and a chalkboard full of wacky specials. Fans of the beloved Lazy Jane’s Cafe & Bakery will appreciate the history the owners of Ogden’s have with that kitchen, but Ogden’s is doing its own thing for its own crowd." - Kyle Nabilcy

Delicious quiche! The coffee was great too. Lots of great specials. This place is definitely a gem in Madison. Love the vibe inside as well.

Google
Seriously the best breakfast I have had in my entire life. Spinach and feta omelette with hot sauce, hashbrowns, and sourdough with an iced tea is a banger every time. Super comfy inside too and always nice service. Would go every day if I could

Google
Fantastic little diner for breakfast. Best cup of simple black coffee I've had in years too. Nothing fancy here, just a classic diner with great food and very friendly service!

Ogden‘s North Street diner is the bomb! Such a cute place so charming… Delicious fresh food… Coffee that actually taste like coffee (Wisconsin coffee is not good… #WeakTea) … possibly the best hashbrowns in the world. And wonderful specials to boot. The staff was exceptionally welcoming, and the andouille sausage scramble special was succulent and tender and just right. This is not the place to go if you don’t like big flavors and rich…because this place cooks and serves gorgeous bold wonderful food. The hash browns are the BEST BEST BEST!!! Close quarters in the seating, but it’s a wonderful crowd to dine with! I love this place!!!… #AndIllBeBack❤️❤️❤️

Google
Food was great, however I think the tables were just too close to one another, which makes the place crowded, noisy.. but overall food and service is great!

Google
Great atmosphere!Loved the food I totally recommend the pancakes! You can’t show up later then 8:25 otherwise it’s a wait! Overall very good loved everything and everyone was nice! Also very unique on certain things

Came here with family and we all really enjoyed our meals. The service was great. It’s a small dining room so feels more intimate. Probably not ideal for groups bigger than 4. Here visiting but would recommend for anyone!!

Ogden's is a legit spot to grab some top-tier breakfast or lunch. The menu is no-nonsense, consistently fresh, and packed with flavor. Yeah, it gets crowded - seating's a bit limited - but the wait usually stays within the 15-30 minute range. They've got customer service down to a science here, even offering to take your number to call when a table opens up. If patience isn't your thing, there's a coffee shop across the street to kill time, or you can relax in the outdoor seating. Stepping inside Ogden's feels like walking into your friend's house - if your friend had some serious interior design skills. The vibe is an industrial farmhouse chic that's both clean and inviting. It's the staff, though, that really completes the welcoming atmosphere, making you feel right at home. Food-wise, I went for the Denver omelette and sausage links, and let me tell you, it was all kinds of fresh and high-quality. The toast didn't disappoint either, and they've got a solid selection of breads. The hash browns leaned more towards mashed potatoes with a crispy layer on top, which was unexpected, but they were still a hit. All in all, Ogden's is an absolute gem. I can't wait to introduce my friends and family to this local hotspot next time they're in town. Don't sleep on this place!

Yelp
I'm good at listening to whispers about food & I kept hearing whispers that this place was delicious and legit. Everyone was correct. Ogden's North Street Diner has an elegant and comfy rustic-modern ambiance, attentive service and delicious food. I got the veggie omelet (daily special) with one buttermilk pancake, real maple syrup and the hashbrowns. SO good. This is not a pretentious place; it's a place that cares about putting out good food. I will be back. New fave breakfast spot? Maybe!

Ashley W.

Yelp
So good! Friendly service, quick, and high quality eats. We were staying around the corner from this place and we both ordered different scrambles as well as a blueberry pancake. Everything we had was delicious! Definitely a great casual breakfast spot to check out when in Madison! Ambiance is super cozy! Ummmm also hash browns and sour dough toast were standouts!

Isabella K.

Yelp
Just your typical greasy spoon in the middle of a cute little neighborhood. Not a lot of seating, so we had to wait about 25 minutes. The service was great and the food came out quickly. The Denver Omelette was (and I can't believe I'm saying this as a native Wisconsinite) a little too cheesy. My partner got the French Toast Sandwich and he loved it. I thought it was delicious as well. The fact that they use full slices of ham rather than cubed or diced ham is a nice touch! I wasn't totally blown away by my experience here. I might return. I might not. But I don't think I would go out of my way to recommend it to anyone.

Navatnie E.

Yelp
Loved it here. It's a tiny quaint spot with delicious food. The staff is so kind and hospitable. The service was fast and the food was delicious. I ordered the omelet special and a coffee. The food tasted fantastic and didn't cost a lot. We will definitely be back again.

Holly S.

Yelp
It's tiny, it's quaint, they serve amazing food!!! A favorite breakfast spot for us! And the service is always good too!

R W.

Yelp
There's normally a little wait, but it doesn't last long. And the food well I don't mind the wait. homestyle cooking just the way you like it and they have the special pies and breakfast. Pancakes are wonderful. Just go eat.

Taylor D.

Yelp
My absolute fave breakfast brunch spot in Madison. It's small and sometimes tough to get a table, but the service and food here is worth the wait. They definitely have a lot of two top tables so I'd recommend against coming with a large group. My husband and I usually have an easy time getting a table when it's just us too. I almost always get the Denver omelette with hash browns (the best imo). Though the chèvre omelette is to die for when it's apart of their specials. Great coffee, they even have cold brew if you're into iced coffee like I am!

John F.

Yelp
Another great Yelp find! This little diner is awesome! Went here on a Thursday morning for a late breakfast around 11am. They start their lunch menu at 11, but breakfast is served all day (I think they close at 2pm). Walked in to the restaurant and was greeted by a friendly host who took our name and said it would be about 20 mins before a table would be open. She took our cell number and said she'd call as soon as a table opened. My wife and I went for a walk, because there really isn't room to sit and wait in the diner. There is a bar across from the diner if you want a bloody, and a coffee shop and bakery right across the street too. Almost exactly 20 mins later, we got a call saying our table was ready. The restaurant doesn't have a lot of seating. Approximately 6 counter seats and maybe a dozen tables (most only have 2 seats). I would imagine the wait would be even longer if you have a group of four, and I doubt they can handle any bigger group. Once we were seated everything went pretty quick. Our waitress was awesome! So friendly and seemed happy to be helping us. Really liked that she laughed at my dumb comments or "attempt" at humor. She did make an error on our bill... but corrected it as soon as we identified it. I ordered a Ham & Cheese Scramble which came with hash browns and toast along with some great (Im pretty sure) homemade jelly. My wife had eggs and bacon with hash browns. We also ordered a Blueberry Pancake to spilt. Everything was really really good.... Just a great diner breakfast! BUT the Blueberry Pancake was remarkable. Had to fight off my wife to get my share! Lol If you are trolling around Madison looking for a great breakfast in a cool, off the main drag restaurant, you need to find this place.

Susa H.

Yelp
Great food! Visit here when I get to Madison, only downside is they have huge windows without SHADES! So unfortunately all patrons at tables by the windows have to eat with sun directly in their eyes! easy fix. Please

Matt S.

Yelp
Awesome atmosphere and food! Blueberry pancakes are killer. Extra eggy batter gives them a different texture and taste which I liked. Cactus, red pepper, mushroom, pepper jack cheese omelette was great as well. Looking forward to coming back to this place!

Dana C.

Yelp
Friendy cafe, great neighborhood spot. Speedy service with a smile. Great variety, including many vegan options. Highly recommend the Quiche of the Day, slightly dense but still fluffy. Prices reasonalble. The only reason I am giving 4 stars and not 5 stars is the front door needs a screen to prevent flies from coming in.

Dynae S.

Yelp
Another great experience at Ogden's! It's the quick impromptu days where they have random open tables. They're normally packed due to the fantastic flavors, mellow environment and welcoming staff. I've resorted to pick up orders off the craving hits strong enough because the wait can be long sometimes. Love this little spot. Love their meatloaf!!

Joel L.

Yelp
We had been to the Tip Top across the road for a while but had wanted to try Ogden's. We were not disappointed. It is a small place but at a bit before 9:00 on a Sunday morning we had no wait. I had one of the specials of the day, the flank steak and poblano pepper. Steak was well seasoned and the peppers and onions were grilled to perfection. And the hash browns were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Everything was great. The servers were pleasant and came to check on us just the right amount. We will be back! From what we could tell, they had taken steps to reduce plastic waste. No plastic bottles for anything. To go containers are compostable.

Torm H.

Yelp
Dearest pancake connoisseurs and enthusiasts, it's my public duty to make sure you're aware of this establishment. They have pigs in a blanket on the menu. Not pancakes with a side of sausage. it's the real deal. Everything is the real deal. 100% best pancake I have had likely anywhere ever. If they had a frequent pancaker club I'd join it. Whenever you get a chance, get your pancake addicted self here. You won't be disappointed. Service was fast and polite. Short wait for a table but lots to do in the nearby area.

Joanna T.

Yelp
Ogden's is a gem. It's a small, charming spot in the middle of a neighborhood. It seems like most everyone is a regular (for good reason) and I certainly would be too if we lived in Madison. The interior is bright and nicely decorated in shades of blue. Menu wise, expect updated classics and interesting specials. The mister opted for a braunschweiger sandwich that he really liked and I went with the daily quiche. It's served "popover style" in a flaky crust that would make Paul Hollywood proud - mine was tarragon chicken, bacon and cheese and it was spectacular. Served with a lovely side of fruit, it was a perfect lunch. Service is genuinely great - welcoming and friendly. No question - we'll be back!

Reed S.

Yelp
Honestly, I don't want any more people to know about this hidden gem. It's a great neighborhood spot, with a small but humble space. Service is quick and attentive, the atmosphere feels private and cozy. I had the personal quiche which looked small at first but definitely kept me full. Prices are actually reasonable, breakfast for two was around $30! Unheard of!! Expect to wait a while on Sunday mornings but we got lucky on a Saturday at 9am. Can't wait to be back

Malia Y.

Yelp
What a cute little place! Lots of street parking available nearby. Not a lot of seating available but it's what makes the space very cozy. Great for groups of 2, no more than 4. We were greeted and seated right away. I ordered an ice coffee, one of the special omelette, hash browns and a blueberry pancake. I'm a half savory half sweet kind of breakfast person. The hash browns are soooo good and browned on the outside. I really wanted to try their quiche initially but the owner was out of town on leave. The pancake was light and fluffy with enough blueberries to satisfy my soul. Never felt rushed in the space. I was able to finish conversation and coffee well past eating our food. Not sure how this would be if it had been more busy but it was very much appreciated!

Rebecca R.

Yelp
The place was very busy when we went here for the first time and they were short-staffed. Only one waitress. She kept up pretty well with the customers and was able to get us seated as quickly as possible. Another waitress showed up a short time later. Ordered one blueberry pancake with meat, tea, a daily special (mushrooms, fontina, green pepper, salami scrambled eggs) and a juice. The food was pretty good. The blueberry pancake had real blueberries (not canned) baked into the cakes and there were enough of them, the bacon was thick and crisp, the scrambler had fresh veggies in it. Decent place to go for breakfast.

Lauren U.

Yelp
Brunch at Ogden's is enjoyable because the food is delicious and the service is on point. The space is cozy, so be prepared to wait a little while for a table. We put our names in one weekend and enjoyed some time outside. Although we somehow were overlooked on the list, the server was able to adjust quickly once we went to check in. I ordered one of the specials, the quiche of the day, which was egg-cellent :) The quiche was completely encrusted in flaky pastry in a way I have never seen before. It looked small at first but I ended up feeling very satisfied by the portion size. The tea was flowing throughout my brunch... Literally, as Ogden's has a nice selection of hot teas they serve. Can't wait til next time.

Mag L.

Yelp
This is one of my absolute favorite breakfast spots in Madison. I have never been disappointed in anything I got from here. The place is pretty small, so plan your visit accordingly (AKA don't expect no wait on the weekends). The french toast is my favorite in Madison. They also have insanely crispy hash browns. My whole family loves Ogden's. The prices are pretty affordable too for how much food you get. I can't recommend Ogden's enough!!

Julissa G.

Yelp
Adorable little diner with delicious food! Great price and portions. Breakfast is served all day! The scrambles and hash browns were great! As well as the French toast sandwich! Our servers were friendly and attentive making it a comforting experience especially being from out of town! They do fill up quick as it is a small place but it is absolutely worth the wait!

Ryan Y.

Yelp
A homey spot staffed by wonderful people. I had an omelette off the specials menu, which had turkey, jalapenos, onion, and bacon in it. Both it and the accompanying hashbrowns and toast were great - not exceptional, but quite satisfying. The breakfast pie I had for dessert was truly exceptional though. Don't miss it.

Lindsay M.

Yelp
A sweet little spot on Madison's east side for a great breakfast and outstanding service! Really enjoyed their pigs in a blanket. I was surpsied at how much sausage came in each pancake roll (3). I had ordered a side of bacon, and while I didn't need it due to the heaftiness of the entree, the bacon was incredible! It's tight inside and you'll have a wait, but the servers are fast and call you when your table is ready. Perfect for a brunch date!

Carlos J.

Yelp
Stopped here for breakfast after driving in from Westfield. Really, really good breakfast! Did I say good? The service was perfect. It's a small place with a big atmosphere. The BLT was packed with bacon with perfect proportions of mayo, lettuce, and tomato. Cari's scramble was very good. And the hash browns? The best!

Bailey U.

Yelp
Super cute place. Very friendly staff. Bridgette, our server, was very kind and helpful. Coffee (colectivo) was great. We had the eggs, hash browns, and toast and also the Denver omelet. The the ham was so good! I'm so glad the hash browns are shredded. Everything was delicious. Will be back.

Don J.

Yelp
This place is a sweet surprise find for me. This is one of those places that become "The Place" because it exudes a charm. Small and cozy. I had brunch there and will be going back!

Ray R.

Yelp
Awesome staff and food !!!!!!!Fast and friendly people !!! awesome experience definitely will be back !!!!!!

Sumara F.

Yelp
I wish I took a picture of our breakfast, but we dived in to quickly and no one wants to see an empty plate. Lovely little place with delicious pancakes and great specials. The staff was friendly and attentive.

J B.

Yelp
On my way! Of my favorite breakfast spots. It's low key and a gem on the low. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants some good organic breakfast.

Kajan K.

Yelp
Very small place in terms of seating, but lovely staff. Great pancakes and omelettes, but coffee not so much. Definitely a popular place with the locals!

John T.

Yelp
Great food, especially the hash browns. Friendly fast service. Bright room in a happening North Side food and entertainment crossroads. Just don't forget the hash browns.

Jacqueline S.

Yelp
Really good! My family and I stopped in on our way through Madison and it was very cute. Food was great (unfortunately they were out of the tofu scramble which I rarely see on a menu so I was excited to try but it happens!). Blueberry pancake was delicious, my husbands omelet was fresh and well seasoned. The space is small but very cute and my kids were so excited to see chickens wandering around the neighborhood. Definitely recommend.

Laurie R.

Yelp
Great food, great service. Clean and cute place. Pancakes and pigs in a blanket were yummy.

Tammy C.

Yelp
Small, cozy neighborhood place with super-friendly service and great food. Nice menu selection with unique specials. The pancakes are the best in Dane County. They can be enjoyed plain. Still need to try lunch as we know it will be delicious.

Jacey K.

Yelp
Want to eat the best omelette of your entire life?? Of course you do! I don't know how they prepare them, but the eggs are perfection! Daily quiche is served in the popover style, with golden flaky crust. And really, crust is the best part of any baked anything. If you opt for something sweet, get the side of homemade whipped cream. So. Good. No takeout on the weekends, which I get because they're almost always packed. (But still, I wish they did so I wouldn't have to wait for a table.) Get there early, or order a coffee and make friends with others waiting in front of the diner. Ogdens is small and quaint inside and the back patio gives more seating options. If you're ravenous and can't stand to wait, try the Tip Top Tavern across the street. Totally different vibe, but their food is good. Also, alcohol.

Benito H.

Yelp
Great food ! Lots of smiles ! The coffee very good!! Clean !! My kids love it !! Maybe one thing to work on is conversation with new faces . The place is at least a four and a half !!

Chris T.

Yelp
Staff very friendly and patient. Artisan quality ingredients with freshness and home made quality selections. The tuna melt was excellent and I could see why this place has high ratings. Not a huge selection and they ran out of chicken breast when we got there just before closing time, however what we did order was top notch and customer service is definitely their priority. Ham and smoked provolone with pepper jam sandwich was balanced and flavorful. Was able to put two tables together to accommodate a party of six. Location is surrounded by residential homes making it feel private, with a view of the street. Overall a comfy and cozy diner atmosphere.

Maria K.

Yelp
Food was fresh and had good variety with some usual choices. Service very attentive. Prices reasonable. Place is very tiny, you feel like you are sitting with group next to you, there is not a lot of personal space.

Michael W.

Yelp
Sunday breakfast was amazing! Great food and great service. It's small, so there are not a lot of tables. I would imagine a healthy wait but we got there right as it opened so plenty of tables. I had the 2 egg, hash browns and sausage patties and everything was super tasty. The sourdough toast was amazing, and most toast does not amaze me.

Marc P.

Yelp
For the short-attention-span crowd: PROs: Great food, great service, great prices. CONs: Limited seating, kitchen is medium to slowish. Long version: Dining solo, walked in on a whim about noon on a weekday. Place was full but they have a tiny, 4-seat counter and a space was open. This put me close to the noise and activity of the waitstaff hustle and bustle, but also guaranteed me always-topped-off coffee and water, so a win, especially as the coffee was top-notch. Sesame chicken sandwich was wonderful with a generous side of kettle-style potato chips. Only bummer was that sometime between when I scanned the specials and finished lunch, the blueberry pie was erased from the blackboard. Said I ruefully to my wonderful waitress, "Guess I should have ordered the pie when I walked in!" She laughed and confirmed it always goes quickly. Two minutes later she put in front of me the last piece they had deemed "too ugly" to serve. And it was a mess, but who cares, especially when it's topped with delicious, clearly hand-whipped cream?!? There was a bit of a wait after ordering, so not for the half-hour-lunch crowd, but my waitress (did someone call her C.C.?) chatted when she could so the time flew. Just a FABULOUS waitress and tasty food. My only regret after examining the omelet specials was that I'd already eaten breakfast -- they sounded amazing. Ah well -- something to look forward to!

Bill B.

Yelp
After my second visit I am upping my score to 5 stars. The food and service is so good. I had the french toast and sausage. OMG, this was so good. The french toast was covered with excellent maple syrup and melted in my mouth. The sausage patties were large and nicely accented the french toast. I was about to leave and they brought out a try of muffin looking items. I inquired and learned they were cherry pear pies, the special dessert of the day. So i got one to bring home for my wife. She loved it. My ticket, before tip, was $9.76. Ogden is so unique and excellent you must visit for an excellent meal.

MaryDan H.

Yelp
Madison needs way more of these quaint neighborhood diners. Oh sure, there's nothing but street parking....but the food is SO worth it! Yeah you'll probably have to wait a bit for a table...but they'll serve you coffee while you wait. Once you are seated, the servers operate like ninjas to efficiently serve you what your stomach desires. We enjoyed breakfast and pie. OK ya got me, PIE is the ultimate reason we came.....and the pie was incredible! You must be sure to opt for whipped cream on your pie....WOW. Just wow. My mouth is watering just thinking about that Cherry Pear Pie....Heads up there's only one flavor of pie per day....guess I'll need to visit on a regular basis!

Tina H.

Yelp
Small little diner with lots of light, great food options both for the carnivores and vegetarians out there, and affordable prices. I had a nice quick lunch with my friend and we both ordered the Sesame Chicken Salad. Nice portion, lots of slivered almonds and scallions, and chicken that was grilled to perfection. They use a sesame dressing on the salad that was similar to a vinaigrette. The salad was not slathered in the dressing which allowed for the flavor of the organic chicken to really come through. I love salads like this. Service was not overbearing and conversation level was low so you didn't have to shout. Very pleasant diner but parking on the street isn't in front of the restaurant. Park down the street. Can't wait to return to try some of their other options.

Sarah S.

Yelp
Ogdens has a special place in my heart! It is my neighborhood breakfast place and I can walk there easily from my house! Coming from a larger city all I really aspire to in my neighborhood is to be able to walk to a few of my favorite places and this place fits the bill! Full disclosure I usually just get pancakes and an cold brew coffee but these two basic items are tremendous! They feature a quiche and a mini sweet pie everyday! Which I would also highly suggest. Their omelets are fresh and generous and their seating is cozy and intimate. This place feels like a friendly urban cafe. They are closed Monday's and possibly Tuesday's so check the hours before going! The staff is always friendly and attentive. I am a fan and I hope you will be too!

Christina C.

Yelp
Ogden's was life-changing. I'm also very upset with myself for not going to Ogden's sooner in my three years of living in Madison. It's a cute little spot. We got there right around 10:30 am on a Saturday and happened to beat the rush, so we were seated within 10 minutes. I ordered the Tofu Scramble, which I highly recommend, even if you're not vegan, like me. The vegetables in it were so fresh. There were broccoli, bell peppers, spinach, etc. It came with toast. I got sourdough and it was the perfect crunchiness. I was offered strawberry jam. The jam was excellent. At the end of my meal, I wasn't super sold on getting a personal pie, but the customers next to us told us we should, so we did. The pie of the day was a cherry pie. I'm not a pie person, but this pie was phenomenal. The reason I'm not a pie person is that the crust to filling ratio for me is not there with a normal pie. However, with this personal pie, the crust to filling ratio was ideal. Also, you must get the homemade whipped cream. They rotate specials as well. It's on the chalkboard in the front.

Dominick P.

Yelp
We came in on a Sunday. It was a little busy, but nothing more than a 30 minute wait. The place is super cozy, and it lets in a lot of natural sunlight. Once my group got sat, they were with us right away. The food tasted phenomenal from every angle. Would recommend going again.

Michelle D.

Yelp
I ate at Ogden pre pandemic. It is a space place that works like a well oiled machine to serve their customers. We had a fantastic breakfast and experience. I hope to visit them soon for take out.

Aric B.

Yelp
I had such high hopes, I love diners and as soon as you enter you get that diner feel with specials on the wall, the smell of breakfast and coffee. We were seated pretty quickly and went over the menu. I ordered the 2 eggs over easy with hash browns and bacon. It took forever to come out, there was no update on the status of our order and we had to ask for an update. My eggs must have been sitting a while because they came out hard. The hash browns were very peppery and I had to steal my girlfriends butter from her pancakes for my toast. That is when I realized that the cute jar of jam I was using is probably shared between customers as I didn't want to get butter in there. I then watched a few tables leave and they never replaced the jam for the new customers. This just made me feel ill. They really didn't talk to us about the issues but they were nice enough to give us a discount. Overall I can't give them higher stars with the jam fiasco and I'm not sure I can try them again.

Kayla C.

Yelp
Hidden brunch gem... this is a small diner with limited hours open on the north east side of Madison. The food is delicious and the service is fantastic! I order their French toast on repeat because it's the perfect mixture of crunchy and sweet. Highly recommend for anyone with a sweet tooth. They have a nice twist on basic breakfast menu that anyone could order from. My only criticism of this diner is the wait to get in during open hours can be long and there is usually not enough room to maneuver around. I usually wait outside if they can't seat me because there's limited room to stand. When seated, you'll be in tight quarters next to your other brunch goers.
