14 Essential McKinney Restaurants

"Freshly baked bread, homemade sausages, and other classic European-inspired fare make Ogi’s an institution in McKinney. The sandwiches are made to order with meat prepared and cured in-house, and the beautifully decorated cakes and pastries are top choices for diners." - Courtney E. Smith, Leslie Chatman

We have tried many cakes from Ogi’s. They all taste fresh and delicious. We ordered custom birthday cake first time from this place and it is amazing. Quick response, reasonable price, looks and tastes just awesome. I did not give any instructions on how cake to look. Just told we need some dog cake toppings but the end result was stunning, everyone at party liked how cake looked and tasted. Thank you so much. I highly recommend Ogi’s for fresh, delicious and amazing looking cakes.

Google
Wonderful place. We have just brought home warm ‘old world’ sourdough bread. See picture. That’s after 3 slices off. We also love their baklava… 3 different types. European flour… this place is awesome. Order bread ahead. Amazing education on healthy ingredients and eating… just talking to this A&M Ag. trained baker. Cake is for my wife born on Christmas.

Google
I’m so glad we found this Gem. We had a fantastic lunch. Home made everything from the Bread to the sauerkraut. The Reuben Sandwich and the Chicken pastry and the coffee were fantastic. Thank Y’all . We’ll definitely be back

Google
Amazing lunch spot. Sandwiches are made on fresh in-house baked bread. This bread is made with European flour.... the sandwiches were tasty & the soup delicious ! They have a lot of cakes & pastry. Everything we tasted was amazing. They even offer GF cakes.... not one or two but so many options. The seating area is small & tables are a bit rustic looking. The service & food though was so worth it. It's a must try!

Google
My wife and I came here to get a little taste of home. WOW! We were both blown away with the whole experience. We each had a sandwich, we shared a soup, and cake. The owner let us know that she imports the ingredients from Europe to keep everything as authentic as possible. I can’t say enough good things about this place!

Timi Purifoy

Google
If you’re a European and miss the flavors of Home, this place is your place to try!!!! The quality of each item, the flavors and the service is amazing!!! Highly recommend to all my fellow Europeans, as well Americans that appreciate culture and home cooked quality food.

Google
What a great bakery! Needed dark rye bread for our Fondue New Years party. The bread was delicious. But the egg and sausage sandwich will keep me coming back. The Bulgarian sausage was so tasty. Love the bakery and loved chatting with the owner.

Google
Stopped by while traveling through and had great food and service. Definitely reccomend the baklava. If you're a bigger person or very hungry the sandwiches might be a bit small but they come with a pickle and chips so it's a good deal!

Yelp
This is a tiny spot that's easy to miss, but you will regret not checking it out! We stopped by to get some pastries for a family get together. The baklava was delicious ! Goes perfectly with a cup of tea. I also tried the spinach pastry - which reminds me of Eastern European savory pierogi . All the food is fresh and made by the bakery. They have cakes, sandwiches, pastries, sausages, and more. What really makes them stand out is the owner, Hafsa. She is easy to talk to and a breath of fresh air. We will be back !

Yelp
Not too sure about positive reviews but I'm going to say this isn't something I would recommend. The Reuben was not very good with cheese not even melted. The "Russian" dressing seemed like mayo only. The German potato salad was not traditionally made if you ask me being from a German family and making it all the time. I will give them that variations exist but more important the kick back I got was extremely negative. I was being questioned and asked what part of Germany I was from almost as if to prove me wrong. If a guest doesn't like something, it's best not to tell them they are wrong. Also - at noon during lunch rush to be a ghost town probably should have been my hint.

Yelp
I tried Ogi's for the first time today, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I ordered the classic pastrami, and it delivered. Piled high with pastrami, melted cheese, and grilled onions on fresh bread. It was delicious. Had a delightful conversation with the woman running it, as I waited. She was warm and friendly. There's a number of other items I noticed on their menu that I'd like to try, so I'll definitely be going back. Thanks!

Yelp
We were looking for a pastrami sandwich and Ogi's was highly rated and delivered on that promise. The owner Hasfa greeted us warmly and reviewed the menu with us. The pastrami was delicious and they piled it high! The bread was tasty and baked fresh. The potato salad was authentic making the overall experience quintessentially European...in McKinney, TX! What a gem in our own backyard! My wife had the Reuben which she loved. Can't wait to stop back by when we get the hankering again!

Yelp
Ogi's is a cute little deli and bakery which is not readily apprent from the outside. It's a bit out of my travel radius but life brings me nearby on occasion, so i have stopped in a couple of times now and will stop by again as time allows. Each time i've had a sandwich, first the pastrami and second time the rueben. First let me start by saying the meat was never dry. Both meals were flavorful and very much enjoyed. That said can I give a special shout out to the rueben? Oh my god what an awesome bite! What puts it over the top was, and this is weird because never would i have thought I'd say this, the sauerkraut! It's housemade goodness and really gives that sammy leg up. I will definitely be back for that but there is one more item on the menu i must try first. Blackened turkey sandwich. Finally when i went there was a lady working the front and she is the owner. Quite friendly and chatty. I was pleasantly surprised she remembered me on my second visit despite the two being a couple of months apart. It was nice. This is an awesome place.

Yelp
I have to put in another review on this wonderful place. We have just brought home warm 'old world' sourdough bread. See picture. That's after 3 slices off. We also love their baklava... 3 different types. European flour... this place is awesome. Order bread ahead. Amazing education on healthy ingredients and eating... just talking to this A&M Ag. trained baker.

Yelp
This place has amazing sandwiches and wonderful desserts the strawberry cake is so light and yummy. The staff is very nice as well.

Bob J.

Yelp
Good hot sandwiches and soup. The bread they use is even good. Great deli style food . I try to come here every time I am in the area . Definitely one of my favorite deli's in the area .

Yelp
Wish I had thought to take a pic. If you're looking for a special cake this is your place. So delicious and all natural ingredients. Sandwich and soup are wonderful as well. What a gem!

Yelp
Highly recommend this business! (Came here to get Rye bread from reading a google review and NOT a Yelp review). The owner had one loaf left! I was so happy! I had called her business earlier, but was not specific about what I was seeking. She even sliced the bread into sandwich pieces for me. She told me that if I let her know in advance that I needed some homemade bread she would make extra and hold it for me. Now that's service! She makes all types of bread. However, I was specifically looking for rye. This is the stuff you can't buy in grocery stores. I also bought a few pieces of baklava too! Pistachio and walnut wrapped in paper thin slices of phyllo. She even has Apple strudel in the bakery case. Dang it's delish! The cakes look great and I think I will have to order one for my next get together with the girls! Make sure you ask the price before ordering. You might get sticker shock! I feel the price is in keeping for a delicious homemade cake made with love! These cakes are a labor of love and well worth every penny! Glad to have found this place! Please come and support a woman owned business! This place is wonderful! August 2022

Yelp
This establishment has gotten greedy. Overpriced and outright gouging for the portions. Ordered Tiramisu and the slice was split in two and sold as two separate pieces. Won't be returning. Used to like this place.
google avatar

Janet D.

Yelp
Great hidden gem! We had the pastrami sandwich and the Reuben and both were excellent! House made bread and desserts are to die for will definitely return!
google avatar

Jesus N.

Yelp
Ordered the blackened turkey sandwich, spinach soup and a strawberry pastry. The food in this place is so delicious, I totally recommend this European spot if you're looking for something very local with great service.

Yelp
Charming little Bulgarian inspired deli off of Eldorado Pkwy just east of 75. Super friendly staff and yummy sandwiches and baked goodies. They also specialize in house-made sausages. I personally ordered the Classic Turkey Sandwich and a slice of Honey Cake.. they were both great!
google avatar

Elaine M.

Yelp
This is my favorite. Mom and Pop shops that bring all the flavor and warm service. Wow. The best turkey sandwich EVER. AND best Pastrami sandwich I've had in Texas... (New Yorker here so you know what I mean...) You gotta get the lunch special, you definitely won't regret it. Comes with soup and your choice of their bakalava. The bakalava alone is ridiculously good. I wanted the entire tray! We tried the pistachio and walnut flavor. We'll be back to try the third flavor for sure. My only regret is that we didn't try the special of the day. This huge platter with a healthy helping of veggies..
google avatar

Ella A.

Yelp
GREAT PLACE! The bread and ingredients are so fresh. It's a very unassuming place from the outside but it is full of heart and character. The staff and owners are very friendly and this is a regular spot for lunch!

Alex L.

Yelp
Honestly this place serves the best sausage and egg breakfast sandwich I've ever had. The sandwich is massive and you can tell the ingredients are fresh and delicious. I also had an apple strudel that was crazy good. One of the best breakfast meals I've had in a while. It's not necessarily cheap but I'd rather eat a high quality meal like this than go McDonald's any day. Thanks to the staff for being so friendly and kind aswell! -Alex

Yelp
Down in Texas visiting a friend and we were looking for a place for lunch. Found Ogi's and we decided to give it a shot. We were not disappointed!! We both got the special- sandwich, chips, soup and a delicious piece of baklava- 13.95. Fresh, filling and super super tasty! The restaurant also has a small bakery -they do fresh bread as well- and you can do slices and whole cakes as well. If they are anything like the baklava watch out!! The owner was super sweet, took our order, brought our food out to us and we enjoyed a quiet lunch. The physical space is small as it had three or four tables only. Our entire experience could be summed up as the following - after I took the first bite of the meal- I had the traditional Reuben- my buddy asks well how is it? My response with a mouth full of food was F***** awesome!!!
google avatar

James H.

Yelp
Really great sandwiches and desserts. The Ruben was perfectly made from the bread, dressing and meat. The desserts were just marvelous.

TeTanya M.

Yelp
What a quaint bakery. The display case is very enticing. The owner was very sweet. I had the blackened turkey sandwich and an Apple strudel. Both were delish!
google avatar

Bret M.

Yelp
Blackened turkey sandwich is phenomenal. So unique and delish. Yummy to the max. Wonderful service, I really enjoy the folks there.
google avatar

Yelp
Ogi's is very good! It is a locally owned and operated bakery and sandwhich store. I was able to talk with the owners and they are both very kind and nice! I ordered a sandwich, piece of lemon cake, and som baklava and petite fours and everything was delicious. The sandwich was absolutely packed with meat and cheese and was absolutely delicious. I didn't have any of the baklava or petite fours but I passed them around at work and everybody said they were absolutely delicious. I would recommend Ogi's and I hope I get to go back!
google avatar

Shweta B.

Yelp
This is a cute bakery in an unexpected location! The owner is a very friendly and thoughtful and she even remembered my name from having met once. She seemed to make connections with all the customers. We ate a hearty english breakfast and an egg and cheese sandwich for brunch. The breads were delicious, the portion was sumptuous, and the service was good. The owner told us about some unique cakes they serve- a Bulgarian national cale made entirely with walnuts, an amaretto cake made wholly with almond flour - they looked and sounded amazing. We will definitely be going back to try their sandwiches and cakes.

Nicholas D.

Yelp
I cannot speak to the merits of this place's baked goods, but the Ruben was haphazard at best. The bread fell completely apart within the first two bites. The meat and slaw ingredients seemed to be ok quality but the execution was very bad. The sandwich alone with nothing else, after tax, was over 15 dollars, which is absurd for the level of quality. I will say the baklava and other pastries looked very good. Overall this is not your best lunch sandwich spot in the area.
google avatar

Natalia E.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious homemade sausage, sauerkraut, bread and pastries. On our first visit, we met Ogi and his wife Dora, who run the shop. They were so nice and friendly, and Dora reminded me of my mom. My husband had the Reuben, the Bulgarian sausage sandwich, and honey cake. I had the grilled Bulgarian sausage and sauerkraut and the Garash gluten-free cake. Amazing! They make virtually everything from scratch. We will definitely be back.
google avatar

Mark F.

Yelp
Ogi and Dora from Bulgaria serve up delicious European delicacies and sandwiches with a smile. Your family when you're at Ogi's. Small and unassuming in a strip mall a block off El Dorado. Four tables inside for 8-10ppl of your staying or grab it to-go for an easy picnic in your own back yard. Popped in for lunch on a quiet Thursday. The Iced Tea machine was broken but Dora offered to make fresh tea for me over the bottles kind. Not at all expected and greatly appreciated. *Classic Ruben $8.59 was uweeee gueeee delicious with house made sourcrout and grilled onions. A repeat for sure! *Classic Beef Pastrami $8.99 was good with the caramelized grilled onions. The meat was a perfect, medium rare carving. Both sandwiches canes with bagged chips. The fresh backed pastries looked good although we did not try them. Next time it's a sandwich + soup + baklava lunch special for sure. The husband and wife team will create traditional breakfast pastries with meats and such. Just ask. Customer service over the top and delicious food. Thank you!

Z S.

Yelp
Service was great; the staff were very friendly with conversation while I waited. The food was rather mediocre. I got the sausage and egg sandwich, potato leek soup, and spinach rolls, as well as a scone and strawberry fruit pastry. The spinach rolls were very greasy. Fruit pastry jam was delicious, but the pastry was lacking flavor. The sandwich wasn't good; essentially a burger and the sausage was bland. Very sweet place, but can't say I'd return unless very hungry and no other options.
google avatar

Kerry O.

Yelp
2nd visit and had the special, sandwich, chips, soup, baklava for $9.96 and it was fabulous. Soup was potato leek, sandwich I had was Ruben. All very, very, good. I can easily recommend you come and give this little shop a try. ***** 1st visit; Very small eating area and when we first got there we were alone, then there was a 2:00 rush including a guy without a mask walking around pointing things out and constantly talking. We packed up and left. What a maskhole! The food was incredible, highly recommend the corned beef sandwich. Cheese was luscious. Very nice couple own and run the place. We bought some Hungarian sausage for lat

Yelp
Amazing European Deli. Everything I've had has been prepared with excellence! A true gem of a place in McKinney. Also, a great place to order cakes.

Daniel L.

Yelp
Ordered a dora cake and it was amazing. The cake came out with excellent and balanced sweetness. They really know their baking and desserts. Will visit again
google avatar

Mara H.

Yelp
In an area surrounded by fast food and large chains, this family own bakery and deli is a delight. We got the chicken patty, minestrone soup, and a brownie bit, all homemade with love. It was a perfect quick meal, without resorting to fast food. Owner was super kind as well.

Greg C.

Yelp
Amazing little hidden gem. Clean, Friendly and interesting food. Mckinney is the king of generic commercial eateries that numb my brain. This is not it!! Quality food and deli. 20% more money than subway at 100% higher quality! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Odilon G.

Yelp
Wonderful food, even better service. Great flavors and clean tables Their blackened smoked pork very good, mushroom soup is a great side!
google avatar

Lupe J.

Yelp
Popped in here for lunch after a work event. I wasn't sure what to expect however the reviews looked good. The lady who runs the place was very welcoming however seating is LIMITED! Yet you can definitely take your food to go. We got the special which consisted of a sandwich, chips, soup and dessert for under $10. It was definitely worth it. I recommend you bring your appetite as the portions are good sized.
google avatar

M T.

Yelp
Classic Beef Pastrami, Herb Chicken Sandwich, and Potato Leek Soup are DELICIOUS!!! My husband and I can't wait to try another menu.
google avatar

liz s.

Yelp
So I came here for the first time yesterday and I am back today for breakfast and baklava( AMAZING). The food is amazing and the Service is superb. I have live in this area for a year and never knew this existed. So glad I found this place!
google avatar

Zac U.

Yelp
I've had every intention to make it to Ogi's for months and months now. Well I finally made it and GOODNESS GRAVY was it every slice of amazing as people around DFW have said. The owners are SO NICE! They put their heart and soul into every sandwich, every bowl of soup, every desert. You can taste it, you can feel it! I went in for the Ogi's Soup + Sammich + Baklava combo for $10.99. Great deal. For soup, I ordered potato and leek which was straight FIRE! It was creamy, flavorful, and hot. WowWeeeeeee. For the sandwich, I got the hot pastrami with grilled onions and swiss on rye. Holy ef was it packed with layers and layers of mouth-watering European meat. Best sammich I've had in years! The pistachio baklava was delicate, moist, and sweet. What a perfect way to end the three-course meal. If you haven't been--go. If you live farther away--drive here. It's worth it, believe me. And they're open for dine-in now!
google avatar

Yelp
Updated review. Sausage sandwich is dry AF, couldn't even eat it, Iand prices have gone up the roof. Will not be coming back unfortunately
google avatar

Katlyn E.

Yelp
We absolutely loved our meal at this deli and will be back. The mushroom soup and sandwiches were homemade and delicious. The cakes were moist, made from scratch, and full of beautiful ingredients. If you're craving comfort food made from scratch, this is the perfect spot!
google avatar

Tara L.

Yelp
I am in love with this place. How have I not known about it until now?!? I went in for lunch and I was the only one there (which was good for me since I wanted to eat in and there's only two tables). I ordered the special which consisted of soup, sandwich, and baklava. The soup was potato leek (you're not given a choice) and it was SO delicious. I could have eaten a huge bowl of it and been happy. Then my pastrami sandwich on rye came out and that was delicious as well. It had grilled onions, cheese, and I believe a mustard. I could only eat half because Dora piled the meat on. Next up was pistachio baklava (or you can pick almond or walnut) and it was the perfect treat to finish. I also bought a slice of strawberry and carrot cakes to try later. The owners are so nice! Dora is the wife and runs the front of the shop. Her husband (Ogi?) was in the back making fresh sausage (which I also brought some home). They're Bulgarian and doing what they love. Please go visit this place and enjoy the delightful owners and food!!!
google avatar

Tim K.

Yelp
The bread and pastries are great. Bought that rye bread and it some of the best I have ever had.
google avatar

Rose M.

Yelp
I'd been eyeing this place for about 2 years , every time I visited the beauty supply store next door to it. Well, today I didn't just eye it, I went in and placed an order. I ordered a pastrami and for my husband and a Reuben for myself. I also ordered two slices of cake, honey cake and strawberry! All I can say is, OMG. I should've stopped eyeing long before today. The sandwiches were amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed both. Mine was way too big for me to eat all of it in one sitting, but I'm sure it'll be just as good later. I'd never had honey cake before but it was delicious.
google avatar

Gar S.

Yelp
This is a small Mom & Pop (literally) sandwich shop and bakery. They are European and make good food. It's a little show that is easy to miss but well worth a visit. I had the pork sandwich on a Keizer roll and it was delicious. Do yourself a favor and stop by and help support this wonderful small business.
google avatar

Carrigan R.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! My fiancé and I tried the blackened turkey sandwich and spicy chicken sandwich. Both were so so good. The Bulgarian chicken soup was perfectly seasoned and well made! The desserts were beautifully made! We had a slice of the strawberry cream and garash cake, each amazing and not overly sweet! The owner was amazing and so helpful! We will be going back real soon!!

Kristian T.

Yelp
I have been a little hesitant with writing this review. Simply because if I put my personal review of the tiramisu public, I run the chance after telling everyone that this is by far the best tiramisu I have ever had, that when I go to pick up my daily (yes daily!) fix that it will be sold out and then I would be so sad I promise you that this tiramisu is absolutely perfect. Truth being, since I found this place a few weeks ago I have ordered well over fifty plus slices. I am about to just switch to full cakes which they do have just to make it easier on Ogi's. They are closed on Monday's so I like to make sure I have some xtra just in case I want to push my one a day to two.
google avatar

Jam A.

Yelp
Napoleon cake was wonderful! Will come back again and again. It's hard to find quality like this.
google avatar

Tommy C.

Yelp
Found this place last week and have been back twice. I thought their sausage sandwich was money until I had their smoked pork sandwich. What delicious food. Great value too. If you go, I suggest their combo soup, sandwich and baklava meal. All for a mere $9.95. Just crazy. Their sausages are made in house and you can buy them by the pound. So tasty. I'll be back again next week for sure.

Dr M.

Yelp
Tasty food. Got a delicious sandwich, my partner got one too but was told only pastrami, cheese and grilled onion. Unfortunately it came with thousand island sauce which was not said or would have asked not to add. Really good food but might be helpful to have what's in the sandwiches on display. Will be back.
google avatar

Alex N.

Yelp
I went ahead and got the lunch combo with the Bulgarian sausage sandwich and it was LARGE with 2 huge patties (I actually removed a patty to make it more enjoyable to eat as a sandwich and ate the extra patty by itself). Came with a great lentil soup and some chips. Also, because I have zero self control, i ordered the pork sandwich as well and scarfed that down. It was also delicious. Give this place your money! The food is well worth it!
