"A fixture in Ogunquit since 1931, the first stop at Main Street’s Lobster Pound is its large outdoor tank, where you select your own live lobster to be promptly boiled in Maine seawater and served cut and cracked. The sides–freshly baked bread, steak tips, corn on the cob, and more—are delicious, but be sure to leave room for deep-dish blueberry pie." - Suzanne Rowan Kelleher

The food was very good. You get to pick the weight you want, & and they boil them right there on the spot. The best time to get there is when they first open. They do get busy fast. But it is worth the wait.

You must have a whole lobster any size you want when here. Couldn't be any fresher. Pick the one /size you want and they boil it right then. They serve it cracked so it is easier to get every morsel. There are many other delicious choices. Came here last trip and had to return on this trip.

Food was great, we were a group of 18 including kids. Alfredo Lobster pasta and the stew were incredible. Pick your own lobster was delicious. We got there a bit after they open so we were seated right away. We noticed the place got busy a bit after. Waitress wasn't great; she got a little attitude.

Nice place, very attentive servers. First time having lobster rolls, tried hot and cold, both good.

Highly recommended by locals, well seasonal locals. The lobster was great and the price fair. We had some blueberry pie for dessert and it was great. Well done Maine!

The atmosphere is cozy, and there are a bunch of tables. It got very busy once we were seated. But we were not impressed with the food. Extremely small portions for the price. Our waitress was unatentive to our table.

My Mom and I had an amazing dinner here on Tuesday night. We got there around 5:45 and the place was already hopping! We had a short wait to get a table so we decided to have a drink at the bar. The atmosphere over there was so great, the bartender so friendly and so nice and quiet that we decided to eat our dinner at the bar. I started with steamers, my Mom had wings, both were excellent. I had the lobster which was perfectly cooked, the side dish of coleslaw was slightly sweet and delicious. Mom had the stuffed butterflied shrimp, she loved it. The staff was very friendly, the bathrooms are clean and there’s plenty of parking in this large facility. Go very early or late, the in between hours are so busy but worthwhile.

Yelp
The Ogunquit Lobster pound restaurant is a must-visit for seafood lovers! One of the highlights of dining here is getting to pick your own lobster right from the tank--a unique and fun experience that adds a personal touch to the meal. Lobsters are charged by their weight, so you can choose exactly the size you want. Everything was incredibly fresh and cooked to perfection. The lobster was tender and flavorful, served with the classic drawn butter that elevated every bite. The rest of the menu didn't disappoint either--whether it was the creamy clam chowder, buttery lobster rolls, or the perfectly seasoned sides, everything was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is casual and inviting, with friendly staff who are happy to guide you through the selection process and answer any questions. It's clear they take pride in delivering top-quality seafood and a great dining experience. If you're in the area, don't miss the chance to enjoy some of the freshest lobster you'll ever taste. Whether you're a local or just passing through, this restaurant is a true Maine gem!

Yelp
I visited the Lobster Pound twice this weekend for dinner as it was the closest restaurant to our Hotel the Dunes. We had a 5-year-old with us and the service was excellent due to our changing needs. The staff was extremely friendly/helpful and made excellent suggestions. As for the ambiance, it was the perfect family restaurant/maine lobster spot. As for the food, I had the boiled lobster and steak tips. I loved that you could pick your own lobster for them to cook (which was also delicious btw), and the steak tips were phenomenal! I also thought their wine/beverage menu was fairly priced. I would definitely go back, and recommend to those visiting with a hankering for lobster, looking for a family-friendly spot, or just a great time!

Yelp
Always drive by here, reminding me of a campground but never tried it. I came for the night to see the last show of Waitress at the Ogunquit Playhouse and this was nearby the hotel I was staying at. It's a rustic restaurant, I guess it's really known for their lobster because they have tanks with them outside. I guess you choose your lobster after you are seated, if that's what you want to eat. They weigh it and charge you. I didn't want to get a big meal because of the time. They had some good choices, from hamburgers to chicken sandwiches to grilled chicken or steak tips with your choice of mashed or baked potatoes or rice. They had shrimp scampi, spaghetti and meatballs. They had kids meals as well. So we started with the clam chowder and they gave rolls. The clam chowder was good! Next for the main course I ordered the lobster roll, with hot butter and it came with coleslaw and chips. The coleslaw was the best part. Sorry but the lobster was filled but had no taste and it seemed it wasn't really cooked and this is the lobster pound? Known for their lobster! It just had no taste at all and for the price, it wasn't worth it. Too expensive !! My daughter got the lobster pie and it came with baked beans and rice. Wow! First it was very small, and then it had no sauce and no taste whatsoever! Disappointing! And it was expensive for what you got. I guess if we were able to take our time, we could have ordered better options. I liked the restaurant, the waitstaff was friendly and helpful. It was clean, they have booths and tables. They said they only had tables but we saw some booths available. But it was comfortable. There's plenty of parking. But the food we ordered was not worth the price. Again, I guess we didn't pick good choices. I would come back when I'm in town and give it another try.

Yelp
Visited on 8-2-24. I've been vacationing in the area for 1 week every summer quite a few years now. This place has been in my weekly rotation since the very beginning. The food is consistently good and the service is always friendly. On this visit, I came with a large group of 8 adults and 6 kids. We sat at 2 tables next to each other. Our waitress's name was Emma and she was absolutely fantastic. Had great knowledge of the menu and was patient and offered some helpful suggestions. Normally this place has not been worthy of a 5 star review, but tonight it definitely was. The stars aligned just right and it was a total treat. For appetizers we ordered a few stuffed mushrooms and a spinach salads. As always, both were very good. For entrees, a few of the standout items were the twin lobster tails and steak tips, broiled swordfish, lobster pie, seafood linguini and stuffed shrimp. The lobster was excellent as was the steak. Steak was charred nicely and cooked to a perfect medium, seasoned well and was very juicy. Lobster was succulent and when dipped in butter, provided a party in your mouth. The cajan swordfish steak was phenomenal. Charbroiled perfectly and topped with a mango salsa. The lobster pie is always a hit. It's served in a ramekin with a buttery sherry wine sauce that you'll want to sop up every last drop with a piece of bread to clean out the bowl. The seafood linguini had a heavy buttery whine sauce with lobster meat, scallops and clams. A very filling dish but great flavors. Stuffed shrimp is served butterflied with a generous amount of seafood stuffing and drizzled with plenty of clarified butter. The kids also ordered chicken wings, chicken fingers and fries. Everyone was very pleased with their meal. The prices are not cheap, but nothing is anymore. But as I previously mentioned, what made this experience worthy of a 5 star review was simply the service we received from Emma. One of the best servers I've ever had with such a large group. My suggestion would be to come fairly early for dinner, no later than about 5 - 5:30 pm (especially on Fri, Sat or Sun). I don't believe they take reservations and in the past, I've waited up to and over an hour to be seated. Fortunately on this visit, we arrived at 5pm and there was no wait at all.

Yelp
Had a great meal at the bar. They were busy- had just served a bus of almost 150. The bartender was well-informed about the menu and made several recommendations after I made a few inquiries. I tried the lobster Alfredo with wild Maine blueberry pie for dessert. The lobster Alfredo was excellent. Lots of lobster. It had a generous amount of sauce. The pie checked the box for eating some Maine blueberries while visiting-good crust. Nice space- great indoor and outdoor areas.

Yelp
I've been coming to the Lobster Pound since I was a young girl and it never disappoints. This time, it had been quite a while since we had been here and wow, was it nice to be back. Cailey was our server in the lounge section of the restaurant and it was a wonderful meal. Cailey was so helpful and she is an outstanding server! Now for the food... We enjoyed our lobster rolls, both warmed with butter. Lots of fresh, delicious Lobster meat and a scrumptious bun. The cole slaw was fresh and crunchy and even the ridge chips were crunchy goodness. And to top it off for dessert, we had the wild blueberry Deep Dish pie. Make sure you leave room for this signature dish. It looks so unassuming, but I can promise you, you'll be dreaming about this little precious pie! It' was so good. What a treat it was to be back to The Lobster House. I can't wait to come back again sometime soon. Thank you Cailey for making our visit to The Lobster Pound so special.

Yelp
First of all, let me say with no hesitation that Theresa (hope I spelled her name right) is one of the best waitresses we've ever had. Tons of personality, gave absolutely phenomenal recommendations and elevated the entire experience to a stellar level. The food was already fantastic and the service was even better. That aside - the fact that Ogunquit Lobster Pound only has 3.5 stars on Yelp as I write this review is borderline criminal. This meal was excellent, and everything I wanted when coming to Maine for good seafood. We got several drinks to start, and not a single one disappointed. I started with the apple cider mimosa, which was light and refreshing, albeit exactly what it sounded like, no more no less (apple cider and prosecco). But next came the salted caramel espresso martini and the chocolate pumpkin martini - let me be clear in saying I never order drinks like this. They're heavy, and usually grossly sweet to the point where I can have a couple of sips and no more. Here? I tried my friend's salted caramel espresso martini and immediately had to have it. Perfect balance of sweet and strong, tons of great flavor, and a great value for what's provided. We started with the bacon wrapped scallops, which were quite tasty, but more good than great. But the lobster stew I got for my entree was utterly phenomenal. Seriously, if you're coming here for lobster - GET THE STEW. Not the bisque, the stew. See photo attached for the absolute avalanche of fresh lobster chunks it contained - filling, delicious, buttery, hot, and deeply flavorful. Theresa even brought us extra of their warm fresh baked bread to dip. Amazing. Sides were great too - excellent mashed potatoes, veggies that actually had flavor to them rather than being steamed and bland, delicious coleslaw and perfectly serviceable if a little basic baked beans. I could go into the seafood stuffed shrimp (also very tasty) or the amazing lava cake to top off the meal, but that lobster stew and Theresa's service were so phenomenal that they were easily the highlights. Great place - we will be back next season, 100%.

Yelp
My husband is a huge Alfredo fan. He ordered the lobster Alfredo and said it was the best he has ever had! He was impressed with the amount of lobster that was in it too. Service was quick and friendly. The restaurant is very family friendly-my son enjoyed the soccer net and my daughter was excited able to hold a lobster!

Yelp
I'm not a big fan of seafood but my family is, so we came here. As expected, the lobster dishes were pretty good here, but that was about the extent of the good food. The scallops had sand in them. The cheeseburger was mediocre. I got the sirloin and honestly it just tasted like ash and straight meat, not a very good flavor. Our waitress was nice, but she seemed to be overloaded with other tables. It was incredibly loud in the restaurant because there is no soundproofing whatsoever. We could hear the family diagonal to us the entire time and now we know their life story basically. Overall it was a negative experience, but they did have cute lobster plushies and nice servers so I'll give them 2 stars.

Yelp
Live lobsters and clams steamed right by the live lobster tank. The seafood doesn't get any fresher my friend's We were here in late October towards the end of the season but there was still a 30 minute wait. Once seated Whitney our server was Awesome as she took good care of us. We had lobster, steamer clams, scallops wrapped in bacon and baked haddock. The food was fresh as everything was moist and delicious. If you want to order the lobster the server gives you a piece of paper with your table number on it. Bring the paper to the lobster tank. They will weigh the lobster and record the price. Once you're seated at your table again your server will collect the paper and add it to your bill. The staff working at the tanks steam the lobsters and clams right there and bring it to your table. Parking can get a little tight so make sure you go early.

Yelp
After vacationing in OGT with the family for the last 5yrs, we finally made a point to try this out... and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere is fantastic, and it was a very cool experience for our daughter to pick out her own lobster to enjoy. The servers as well as the lobster prep team were great, and the meals all came out delicious. The wait time was not bad for a Friday night (25min), and there is plenty to see and do whether outside or at the bar while you wait. We will be back next summer.

Stacy D.

Yelp
Sweet meal. We had the scallops wrapped in bacon with a maple syrup and a tangy Dijon horseradish dip. I'd recommend two orders if you want to make a meal of them. Also, of course, a lobster roll with slaw and chips. Nicely made and it was a full packed roll. We sat at the bar with Tascia who is warm and friendly. Ask questions so you can learn what to order and she will share more info about the area.

Peter R.

Yelp
Great ambiance. Food was not up to expectations, some of the Entrees tasted as though previously frozen. Took 2 hrs to get a table, then another 45 mins once we sat down at our table.

Kirby M.

Yelp
It was very loud and a little bit overwhelming. Got there at 5 and the place was already almost full ( which is understandable ) everyone who worked there was kind and service was speedy. The Lobster stew was delicious and gave you a decent amount of lobster.

Jessica K.

Yelp
We visit this restaurant every year when in Ogunquit as a tradition. I have to say we are likely not going to return next season. The last few years we experienced very slow service, extremely slow even when not busy. Servers were all friendly but not very efficient. This year we were overcharged by 10 ounces for our lobsters. I chose not to complain about bill at that point since we had waited so long to eat and get our bill. The cashier even said she couldn't ring me up until I found my server again to rerun the bill. It was like a wild goose chase/. The deep dish blueberry pie is very watery and not that tasty/. The lobster was delicious of course and the coleslaw was fantastic. A member of our party had the grilled chicken Caesar wrap and they felt it was one of the best they have had. Although the lobster is good I think it's time to try another location.

Sheri C.

Yelp
Great experience at our first visit to Pound Lobster! Welcomed with friendly faces and warm customer service! So fun choosing my own lobster the watching it boil outside in the large boilers! Delicious food!! Best lobster! My husband ordered the seafood pasta which was loaded with scallops, shrimp and lobster. Scampi style sauce. Wonderful!! We highly recommend! Great cocktails as well!

Alicia B.

Yelp
Mother's Day dinner. The best lobster and steamers! The restaurant operates like a well -oiled-machine. Very busy but the service and food could not have been better. I'm a happy Momma!

Greg G.

Yelp
Just had dinner here memorial day weekend. Haven't been here in about a year. The place has not changed at all, the food is still pretty good! I do notice however the portion sizes are slightly smaller for some dishes. Unfortunately, I will not be returning anytime soon, and this is due to the exorbitant prices, I have witnessed this time around. A full order of steamer clams, is $30 now. The price per pound for prepared lobster is $30 per pound. I am not cheap by no means, but this is just outrageous. I feel that they have priced themselves out at this point. Too bad!!!

John B.

Yelp
Total rip off....my wife and I got the lobster pie.....dry and rubbery in a SMALL ramakin $42...my baked potato wasn't even hot enough to melt the butter but the scotch was good. They should be ashamed to serve this. The waitress was very nice.

Melyssa S.

Yelp
Very loud , busy atmosphere tonight that must not be the normal because our waitress was very stressed out and stated she was flustered because of how busy it was . The $31 swordfish was so burnt on one end that it couldn't be eaten. We brought it up after receiving the bill and she said " well I wish you would've said something earlier " but we rarely saw her so that would've been impossible .... And wouldn't have mattered . The clam chowder was delicious and the portions were good size but not good enough to make us want to go back.

Dina B.

Yelp
Went to Maine for the first time and was looking for a nice lobster dinner. Well I found the place. Got to the restaurant just before the crowd so no waiting. I never got it pick out my own lobster before so was confused when I ordered and the waitress gave me a card and told me to go outside to pick out my lobster. A young and friendly young man came to me and asked me what kind of lobster I wanted. What? Lol. Didn't know there was so many differences in lobsters. So I just said I like big claws and wanted about 2 lb. I went back inside to wait. We had steamers which were very good and my husband had surf and turf. My lobster came out and it was so sweet and briney. It was so full of meat that I couldn't finish it. My husbands steak was delicious and cooked to perfection. I would definitely return here.

Joe S.

Yelp
Got takeout. Food was good and fast. Lobster Alfredo was not worth $54. Will go back but will adjust order.

Nancy R.

Yelp
Food, service and ambiance were great. We had a wonderful meal. Clams were delicious. We additionally had stuffed shrimp and swordfish. Both had amazing flavor and portions were plentiful.

Abigail P.

Yelp
Service was good. I had a lobster roll which was not. The lobster meat was dry, like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while. Our drinks were also not very good. Very strong, but not tasty. I had a blueberry martini, and couldn't drink it. The ambiance is fine for a Maine seafood restaurant. No issues there.

Daniel C.

Yelp
Typical tourist trap. (Pricey) I had 2 pounds of steamers they were very good. $24.95 My daughter had a just over 2 pound lobster at $24.95 a pound. The sides were terrible. Green beans tasted like they were cooked in mint. baked potato was very dry. The baked beans were decent.

Susan W.

Yelp
The lobster pie was something I would never order again. The description sounded delicious - butter, Ritz cracker crumbs, a hint of sherry. The lobster was so tough, it was almost inedible. The baked potato was the tiniest potato I have ever er seen in my life. I thought it was a joke. There are no French fries served on the menu. My husband did enjoy his lobster stew very much.

Yelp
DO NOT EAT HERE, simple enough, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY as this was the worst experience we've ever had in Ogunquit. We had a party of 6 people, 2 kids and the service started out bad, we should have known better already. The waitress (an older woman) forgot to bring the drinks, no utensils, forgot the appetizers and all the food came out at once. Well, the 3 boiled lobster dishes, were COLD, not even warm, and we let the server know, no response, spoke to the manager on duty (must have been a family member of the owners) and she was as cold and rude as the lobsters and insisted that they were hot, but then back peddled and said that they dunk them in cold water so that they are easier to open. This is total BS, eating lobsters for 40 years and never heard this before. They are pre-cracked (to make it easier for gullible tourists, I guess?) but that's part of the fun. She was so incredibly rude and would not do anything about it. Then the other dishes were served, the mussels seemed to be cooked in dirty dishwater and had NO taste, and also over cooked, the potato skins, were certainly not homemade and reheated from a freezer, ..echhh. The rude manager did nothing about about 6 HORRIBLE meals, and a total waste of over $250. We got up and left our meals to NEVER return again and ate back at the hotel! Again, do not waste your money! We told the hotel desk & concierge about the experience, and they told us that they heard from other guests as well, that the quality and service has totally gone way downhill over the past few years and would no longer recommend it to anyone. Read the other recent reviews, same issues, poor quality food, lousy service and above all a RUDE MANAGER. She could have saved the day, if only she apologized for the inconvenience, but no! Too many other good choices restaurants in Ogunquit, Wells and York , TAKE THIS OFF YOUR LIST! Hopefully by next year, this place will be closed down so others do not have to suffer.

Joe T.

Yelp
Whenever we are in Ogunquit this is a must stop. Pick your own lobster and off you go. Just like when I was a kid.

Mary H.

Yelp
Expensive like all the other restaurants, but at least they gave decent portions, the waitress was very attentive, and the food tasted just fine!

Max G.

Yelp
I've been coming here for well over 10 years. My family loves this place so much. The fresh lobster and muscles are to die for. We came here for my mom's birthday. Did not disappoint! This restaurant has a huge place in my heart and my childhood. Will be returning someday!

Krystal A.

Yelp
I came here with a party of ten and we all enjoyed the experience! They had live lobsters outside of the restaurant, so extremely fresh food. If you get the lobster (my husband did), you go out to the lobsters and tell the chefs what size you want and then they pick out the lobster for you. It's a really interesting process. I had the marinated flank steak and it was amazing! I know that they say not to get anything but seafood at a seafood place, but it was amazing how delicious it was. Good service and family friendly. I love how welcoming the atmosphere is and will go back will I'm in town.

Judi T.

Yelp
As long time customers of OLP, I thought it only right that I comment on a recent visit to the restaurant with other members of my family. four of us had ordered lobsters and steamers....one lobster out of the four did not appear up to their usual quality both in appearance and taste. lobsters are not a cheap entree so I asked to speak with the manager. after waiting 20 minutes for the manager, we were questioned as to why we would not eat the lobster, and given an "education" on lobsters and their appearance. All this in front of a restaurant full of patrons. I think I was more upset over our treatment by the manager than I was by the meal. Could have been handled differently I felt. I have many times praised OLP to family and friends as an excellent dining venue. with so many options in that area for lobster dinners, maybe time to try others. The manager was Taylor....i do not feel comfortable listing her entire name, but feel she should be addressed as to how she interacts with customers.

Never M.

Yelp
Great place for lobster! Maybe a bit more then other restaurants. the staff are highly professional. You pick your own lobster when instructed to. You do wait but worth every minute. The best I have in Ogunquit!!!

Liam K.

Yelp
Ate here twice in three nights and have no complaints. The meals were good and plentiful and the prices were also very affordable. Had a lobster of about 2.25 lbs that was very meaty and easy to take out of the shell since they split it in half for you. The only thing that was a negative was that the green goo wasn't rinsed off of it, that is hepatopancreas, mostly referred to as tomalley (taa-ma-lee). It's a part of the lobster's digestive system.

Richard C.

Yelp
We picked out our lobsters and the wait were not long. The lobster was the tastiest we have ever had anywhere. The service was great, and ambiance was great. We travel 4 hours to eat here it is so good.

Bob B.

Yelp
just terrible. the waitress was bad, the service was bad, the lobsters were cold. The mussels were bland, the spaghetti was cold, the baked potatoes were old. Above all, the Manager was rude. Do not go here, think twice and go somewhere else. worst place ever!

Patty S.

Yelp
Can't beat their lobster! Choose it right out of the pool in their yard. New England clam chowder is nice & full of clams. I had the steak tips with 2 lobster tails and it was great. Steak was cooked perfectly. This time, our server left a bit to be desired. Didn't se to be that "into" her job. First time we've had less than excellent service though. We'll be back!

Christina A.

Yelp
Absolutely love the OGT lobster pound. I've been coming here for years and I genuinely look forward to our trip here every year. I'm a huge lobster lover, and Maine is the best place to get yourself a lobster. Prices are super high, but that's typically always the case for lobster. There's plenty of other options here for people that don't like lobster - my brother in law got a steak and said it was delicious. The ambiance is super rustic and old fashioned, with family style tables. I happen to love that vibe, but don't expect this place to be fancy. Put on your lobster bib and enjoy a lobster!

Trina G.

Yelp
Oh my goodness...I highly recommend you come here!! You walk up and there is a huge lobster pool from which you choose your dinner! The wait was minimal and the service was great! Our server, Jody, took great care of us. We ordered our sides and we were off to choose our lobster. They grab it, weigh it, bag it, and it's off to be freshly steamed for our enjoyment!!! My first time eating a whole lobster and it was Delish!!! We are already planning to stop on our way home!

Daniel B.

Yelp
We tried to eat here as a family of ten, with a few elderly parents and three small children, including a young infant. Although there had previously been a COVID policy permitting folks to eat their food outside at the picnic tables, that policy had been revoked this season, without notice on the website. The restaurant wouldn't make an exception for our parents or our infant. While we expressed our disappointment with this policy to the owner, Bill, standing nearby, we respectfully appreciate that it is his decision to enforce this policy. What we did not appreciate was the nearby seventeen or eighteen year old employee who, upon hearing our conversation with Bill, promptly stuck his tongue out at our group, and did a little demeaning dance. We also did not appreciate owner Bill's refusal to address or discipline his employee. The employee was young and so perhaps should be forgiven. Nevertheless I am confident that in ten or twenty years, when this waiter has young children and elderly parents of his own to care for, he'll perhaps come to understand our concern and regret his approach to this situation. Still, we were very disappointed. The restaurant made what was already turning into a difficult evening that much worse. There are many nearby places, including Spinnakers, a nearby restaurant with good seafood, friendlier service and a liberal outdoor seating policy. I would suggest eating there instead.

Bill B.

Yelp
We were traveling and sightseeing with some out of town guests who had never been to New England. One of the bucket list items we checked off was taking them for Maine Lobster. There was plenty of room for our RV out back. The place does not take reservations and the line to get in starts queuing at 4:30p Our party ordered a full order of steamers and an order of escargot for appetizers. The steamers were fresh and tasty. The escargot was served sans shell which was a bit disappointing. They were tasty but a bit over done. For dinner one of our group ordered a full lobster (which for those so inclined can be personally chosen from the live lobsters in their pond), another order surf and turf, my wife ordered the meatloaf and I ordered the sirloin dinner (allergies to seafood) The meatloaf is worth driving the 2 1/2 hours from our home in Western MA. The sirloin and accompanying mashed potatoes and cole slaw too were yummy good. According to our guests the lobster was good but not impressive. Much of the lobster was not eaten, too much ammonia smelling. Dessert was fantastic. We ordered a couple of blueberry pies and raspberry pies for dessert without the optional ice cream. These were served hot in a pot pie style, with the crust covering the fruity goodness of the Maine blueberries and raspberries. Took one to go. Overall it was great dining experience and if you are in Ogunquit and are looking for a nice dinner, this is a good choice.

Merton F.

Yelp
I and my buddy where in town for a fishing trip and staying near here and wanted a lobster dinner. A lot of places in this town close up pretty early. Anyways we choose here for our meal. You pick our lobster and they prepare it for you. I love that they pre-crack the lobster for you. The lobster was very good and hit the spot after a very long fishing trip. The staff was great and helpful along with being very attentive. I would visit again on the next trip into town.

J D.

Yelp
First time through, but the food and service were very good. The decore is a little dated, but other than that, it was good experience.

Yelp
Place was pricey for what they offered. Clam Chowder and Cocktail shrimp were fresh. Julie enjoyed the lobster roll and found it very tasty, but it was incredibly small for the $34 price. I ordered the Baby Back Ribs, which tasted old, reheated, and dry. This place has a decent atmosphere, but knowing what to order would maximize your dining experience at the Ogunquit Lobster Pound.

Yelp
Very family friendly restaurant. Big tank of live lobsters for kids to look at. Large outside waiting area. We always go inside and grab drinks. You are allowed to bring them back outside. It's a large restaurant. It is noisy, if you are sensitive to that-the bar area seems quieter. Great food, variety of seafood and non seafood options. The lobster roll is great (and I've eaten a lot of lobster rolls in my life). We go to the lobster pound every time we vacation in Maine. It does not disappoint.

Yelp
Went here with my 2 daughters and my fiancé. One of my daughters doesn't eat seafood at all but they were very accommodating and I was able to get my daughter a grilled chicken breast with mashed potatoes. The lobsters are very rest and it's pretty cool that you can go out to the tank and pick out your own lobster that you would like to eat! All of the food was delicious. The only complaint that i would have is the waitress didn't seem to know the menu and she was forgetful about bringing things to our table after asking numerous times. Tried to give her a break as we are restaurant owners ourselves and know the business. Upon paying the bill we had to tell the staff how much we wanted to leave for a tip and she didn't seem happy with what we were leaving. She kept on saying well don't you want to leave this or give that. So that was a little awkward. Other than that I would recommend coming here if you want a delicious meal.

Yelp
Very disappointed as we come here every year. My wife and I understand the restaurant industry but unfortunately this time was a dud. Very loud, very congested and it literally took 25min for someone to get us drinks , then when I ordered steamers they came out no problem however the butter and plate took another 15 min to get to us. Then after we got our lobsters we again had no plates and waited another 20 min to get them. Our sides eventually came out but what a disappointment as we looked forward to come here all the way from CT, and we were literally here for a day just to go there. Eh ... next time we might skip it on our best places to eat , what a disappointment. Kid getting the lobsters was the only friendly interaction , props to him.

Yelp
We were visiting Maine for holiday and was recommended this place by a friend. One member got the lobster and was able to walk upto the tank, give an estimate of weight, and the guy weighs it. When it was finished steaming, they crack the shell for you. I had the shrimp scampi and it was the best one I've had. They use olive oil instead of butter, and you can taste it. The garden salad that came with it was very good for a side salad. They also had meatloaf with was also really good. Would definitely come back when I go up north again.

Yelp
Im giving this restuarant a 3 mostly because of the lobster I was served. My husband and I had been traveling for 14 hours from Halifax, Canada. We had stayed in Ogunquit, ME for a few days prior to heading to Halifax. This restuarant was highly recommended for lobster when we were there but the lines were long so we passed. So coming back to Maine we decided to stop for dinner on our way to NH. My husband ordered the lobster stew and it was delicious & the seafood was not overcooked in the stew. I wanted a lobster so I picked one out. I wanted a small 1 1/4lb lobster. When it was served to me I asked for a nutcracker but the waiter said they already cracked it. Which was good. When I went to open it up my lobster looked yellowish but i thought it was the lighting. It was not it was totally overcooked. I didn't say anything because I was in a lot of pain ( i have a chronic pain condition called CRPS and I had been traveling for 14 hours and I just felt I would start sobbing. My issue and reason for the 3 stars is because they had already cracked it opened they should have seen how overdone it was. We were there on August 12, 2022. So my advice is if your food doesn't come out the way it should say something because your spending a lot of money on your food. The staff and our waitress were very nice and the bathroom was clean and so was the restuarant.
