If I could give this place ZERO stars, I would.
I decided to try this Ohana Hawaiian Barbecue location at 7949 South Rainbow Blvd because the dining area looked nicer than the first place I went to over by Warm Springs on the southwest side. Big mistake. This turned out to be one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had, and here's why:
When I walked in with a guest, we were not greeted -- the two young ladies behind the counter were busy talking to each other. When we finally got to the counter, one of them just stared at us blankly, offering no help or suggestions. Her attitude was standoffish and skittish, and we were left to fumble through the menu, which had no helpful pictures unlike the southwest location. There was zero effort to assist us or guide us through the menu.
We finally placed our order, and guess what? She forgot to ask about drinks -- something you'd think would be automatic when ordering combos. When I realized we needed drinks, I had to remind her. She handed me the card back after paying, only to awkwardly ask for it again because she forgot to process the drinks. Just ridiculous.
The place itself was clean, and the atmosphere seemed fine -- until I noticed something even more infuriating. The second young lady with glasses greeted EVERYONE ELSE who walked in after us. "Hi, welcome!" she cheerfully said to others, while we got nothing but cold indifference. Talk about a blatant lack of respect.
When the food arrived, it went from bad to worse. I ordered the BBQ Mix Plate with Kali ribs, BBQ chicken, and BBQ beef, plus double macaroni salad. The portion sizes were pathetic, the meat looked like leftover scraps, and the macaroni salad was mushy and flavorless. Who messes up macaroni salad at a Hawaiian BBQ joint?
For the combined total of $49 for everything we ordered, the meal was absolutely not worth it. The quality of my combo alone was trash.
To top it off, while we were eating, Christmas carolers came in, and the restaurant staff didn't bother turning down their blaring pop music. The result was a chaotic mess of loud, garbled noise. The carolers were asking for donations, which is fine, but the establishment's failure to manage the atmosphere was just another sign of their complete disregard for their customers.
This place is a disaster. The staff's energy is terrible, the food is low-quality, and the service is non-existent. I will never return to this location, and I strongly urge others to stay away unless you want to waste your time and money.
Do yourself a favor -- go to the southwest location by Warm Springs. The portions are right, the energy is welcoming, and you'll actually get what you pay for. This location needs new management and a serious attitude adjustment before it's worth anyone's time.
Save your $49 and your sanity. You've been warned.
