Taco Restaurant Escondite Opens in the West Island | Eater Montreal

"Joining the vegan sushi scene on Mont-Royal near St-Denis, I found Ohana recently opened and serving a range of maki with options including a spicy black rice-shiitake mushroom roll and a curry avocado-seitan choice. It’s not strictly Japanese — the menu also throws in poke bowls, pad thai, the decidedly North American “sushi pizza,” and spring rolls, among other options." - Tim Forster

We absolutely loved the vibe at Ohana Vegan Sushi. It’s just a genuinely pleasant and welcoming place, and the wait staff was so nice. There was nothing pretentious about it at all! We ordered the Sushi Platter for Two, and it was fantastic. Very creative, beautifully presented, and delicious. It was definitely well worth the price for such great food and service!

Best vegan sushi we have ever had! They catered to our gluten free preference! Its food texture definitely blew my mind! The spicy lemongrass soup was a nice heart warmer to start our meal. We will be back! ❤️

Wow! The sushi was well-priced and so creative. Sushi is all vegan and they use so many creative ingredients. The presentation is gorgeous with lots of edible flowers, sprouts, and heart shaped carrots. They even gave us free iced tea (not sure if this is typical). So impressed! Will be back again soon.

The BEST sushi I have ever had ever. A must try in Montreal! It tastes better than sushi sushi and that’s a plus. We ordered their Arc-en-ciel under their specialty rolls, and the eclipse roll, both are so good!! Price is reasonable too! ♥️ Thank you for making amazing sushi :)

We got two sushi here and both were pretty wildly different. The first was a take on tuna (I believe) and had a super neutral flavor. It has been so long since I have fish that I don't remember if that's what it tasted like but I wished it had been marinated in something to give it a bit more flavore. That being said, they nailed the look and when combined with ginger it didnt need too much. The second was essentially a fresh role with an assortment of veggies and tofu. This was down my ally since I like sushi with a crunch and this definitly had it. It was a bit large for sushi so for my partners small mouth it was harder to eat in one bite but not too bad for mine. The atmosphere is really fun with tones of hand drawn sticky notes on the wall and bright happy decor. Overall a good spot but I would try some other stuff next time.

Google
The most amazing vegan sushi. The presentation is incredible and it's so delicious. Staff were very kind and welcoming. I'm only in Montreal 4 nights but will definitely go back again before I leave

We went unacknolwedged for more than 10 minutes after coming through the door (no line). There were no tables available so we were sat at the window bar where there were several plants and many ants crawling around. Bugs and restaurants do not belong together for me. Despite however good the food might have been, until this place learns to clean, I wont be back. Happy that they have a gluten-free menu. Food was ok. There's some steep competition in MTL when it comes to vegan sushi.

Google
Best vegan sushi I have ever had and by far! Sushi's been the hardest thing to replace for me since becoming Vegan and thought I'd basically never find anything to replace it. However, Ohana was amazing and even better than regular sushi. The staff were incredibly kind too and I got a complimentary sushi for no reason. Really amazing food and people and I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Fun vegan sushi spot with so many options!! I got the poke aux champignons. I did not love the sauce; it was a pesto balsamic that was not my taste, but all the other ingredients were fresh and generous. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Amazing sushi that also happens to be vegan. The staff is friendly and quick. We were so impressed with the presentation and taste. So good

Yelp
The staffs are really nice here! Despite arriving before their opening time, they took my order in advance. They offered me a seat while waiting for my order. I was touched by the "Bon Appétit" written on my takeout. And the food is so good! The Nuage roll is wrapped in a cucumber sheet. These kind of rolls are rare! The cucumber makes it refreshing and the seasoned mushrooms are delicious! The oba leaf is delicately fragrant. The Waka maki is a good choice if you like crunchy textures from the cucumber, the pickled radishes and burdock roots. Then, there's the sea flavour from the marinated seaweed. The building is easy to find with it's pastel colour and flower murals. Inside, the greenery decor adds a beautiful touch to the dining room. This whole place has a good vibe!

Yelp
This is hands down the best vegan sushi I have ever had. We ordered and split the chefs special and black angel roll. It was so varied and delicious! I wish I lived nearby because I'd eat here all the time!

Yelp
Obana was packed the first time we visited the restaurant. The second time we visited during off hours. The owner and staff were very helpful in identifying items without ingredients I am allergic to. Overall, it was delicious and colourful. The sushi were artfully created. It's easy to see why the restaurant was packed and had a line outside. Ohana is a great place if you are looking for an avocuddle.

Yelp
Wow. Just an amazing place. If you're the person who typically eats California, cucumber or shrimp tempura rolls this place if for you to have fun and experience sushi in the most enjoyable way. Personally my best/most fun sushi experience!

Yelp
This is the first GOOD all vegan sushi restaurant I've been to. I loved the super cute outdoor seating. I ordered the "Dynamite Roll" and it was fantastic! I wasn't sure what to expect when it came to the tempura vegan shrimp, but it exceeded my expectations!!! Everything went together so well in this roll. I definitely recommend checking out this gem The staff was also super warm and welcoming.

Yelp
Worth in every bites. The vegan lightly smoke tuna is so real and tasty. The price is reasonable.

Yelp
I love this place! I thought it was going to be just vegan sushi and nothing else, but I was wrong. They do a bento box and I got general Tao tofu and a miso soup with steamed rice and edamame as well as the samurai maki pieces. I also tried the "black angel" which had a delicious vegan tartare in it that tasted surprisingly fishy. For desert I got the fried banana which came with a delicious creamy scoop of vegan ice cream. Oh, I also tried the lemongrass soup, pretty refreshing! Will definately order again for movie night!

Yelp
We had the Black Angel! So yummy. I don't often eat vegan food when I go out, but this place was exceptionally yummy and creative. Highly recommend.

Yelp
TBH I can't remember what these rolls were, but my friends and I enjoyed everything we got! Great to have another vegan sushi option in Montreal.

Lisa W.

Yelp
This place is adorable and the vegan sushi is the best we've tasted yet in Montreal! Service was great too!! Try the Black Dragon, Sunrise, Samurai and the Kamikase was fantastic!! Highly recommend!!

Suchi P.

Yelp
I had basically given up sushi because of massive dredging fishing fleets are destroying the bottom of the ocean, devastating fish populations, and killing all kinds of other marine life they don't even want... Then we happened to walk into Ohana and OH MY GOD. I had no idea vegan sushi could be so amazingly creative and frigin' DELICIOUS. I am from the US and would honestly go back to Montreal just to eat at Ohana again. And the service was so awesome. We walked in near closing time and they took our order anyway and prepared the most beautiful to go trays that we sat on a bench and DEVOURED.

Rachel F.

Yelp
My friend and I came here for dinner and had the best server in the restaurant. He was so sweet and made our night. Our food was amazing, we ordered the sunrise roll, sumo roll, and the ravioli frit. We'd definitely go here again, 5/5!
google avatar

Andrea K.

Yelp
I highly recommend getting the assorted platter. It's the best way to try all the different rolls they have. My favourite will always he the eclipse maki roll. Simple, yet so delicious. There's something about the black rice that gives it that extra special feel

Jorge M.

Yelp
Fantastic. Got the 50 pieces and let the staff choose for us. Great decision. I don't get to eat sushi often cause I'm vegan, and this place was everything I wanted and more.

Trina D.

Yelp
Cute, clean ambiance. Sushi is tasty, visually appealing and freshly and carefully prepared. I forget the name of the sushi I ordered but It has sweet tofu and I especially enjoyed that one. Staff is also very nice.

Yelp
This place exceeded my expectations. I was there with my boyfriend and we ordered 4 different sets of makis, all were delicious. We ended the meal with their fried banana dessert that comes with a scoop of ice cream and fruit pieces. If you want a good experience and good vegan sushis, it's the place to go! Also, excellent service and the staff is very friendly!

Jillian W.

Yelp
Unexpectedly delicious, I was surprised by how by the wide variety of flavours/textures achieved without fish.

Carol Q.

Yelp
amazing place with great food!! I'd suggest coming with friends and each ordering a different item, then sharing all that was ordered :) I did this when I was there and loved to be able to get to know the variety of veggie sushi rs they have!!
