The Essential Atlanta Barbecue Restaurants and Pop-Ups

"Family-owned and operated, Ohio Hog Company brings a bit of Cleveland-style barbecue to the South. Look for beef brisket, slabs of glazed ribs, smoked chicken plates, and a take on Cleveland’s famed Polish Boy sandwich stuffed with smoked kielbasa. It’s then topped with fries, coleslaw, and tangy barbecue sauce." - Eater Staff

Always amazing food and service. No complaints, the owners are so nice and the receptionist or person at the register is always so nice. Rib tips, Mac and cheese and greens is always my go-to. The corn bread and bread that comes with the meal even tastes amazing. Oh and the price is reasonable and worth it, it's not outrageous. I think it's pretty good for what you get.

Google
My husband and I just recently tried this place on a Saturday afternoon. It was so good, we returned yesterday, just a week later! The pulled pork is delicious and the fried okra is the best I've ever had. We loved the greens, baked beans, Brunswick stew and cornbread, too. The owner was very attentive and kind. We plan to return often. It's the best BBQ we've found in the area.

Google
This is my second trip here. The food was good but a lil extra burnt on some pieces of my rib tips making insufficient to eat and they miss some items from my food order but corrected it. Customer service was good. Overall good food.

I'm from Cleveland, and I really like polish boys, so when I was told that I could get one here, I drove over 20 miles one way. Did I mention that I really like polish boys, ok. I ordered one, and it was okay, but I wouldn't make a special trip for one. Maybe I'll try some of the other food on the menu the next time that I'm in the area because the place was over half occupied, and people were picking up orders at a steady pace.

Google
Second time being here and the BBQ is great. Good taste on the pulled pork and just the right texture on the ribs that don’t take too much effort to pull off the bone. A few things to improve that would make it five star…. 1. BBQ sauce is too sweet and only the one option 2. Side portions taste great but come in to go containers and portions are small for $4 3. Customer engagement was a little lacking. The person I was with was slow in ordering and didn’t understand what combos came with what. Person at the counter seemed put out instead of being more helpful. My recommendation is to just order food to go (meats / sandwiches) and pick it up. Seemed like that was the bulk of their business based on the calls I heard and people picking up.

Hot damn!! The best meal I had all month!! Everything was delicious!! I was thoroughly impressed! I had the mac n cheese, greens and ribs. Cornbread was amazing. ... Even the fountain drinks had the perfect ratio of carbonation to syrup! My new favorite bbq spot!

Google
I’m very hard on BBQ joints because I can BBQ also but I will give the Brisket a 5 star rating! Very moist, flavorful and tender. Next time, I will try the pulled pork and chicken.

Google
This place is a little slice of “HOG” heaven! Food was OUTSTANDING!! Had the Ribs and Brisket with baked beans and stew. I am so full right now. I seriously need assistance rolling my butt out of here. Please send in search and rescue, but let them eat first!! Owner mentioned retiring soon, me and another customer told him to reconsider that. If you’re ever in Fairburn, GA SW of Atlanta make the effort to stop in. I’m probably gonna still be here paying rent in one of the booths stuffing my face. My wife may need to just move to GA and join me in the Booth. Sylvia I love you baby, but with BBQ this good I may not make it back to Texas 😉🤣

Yelp
Best BBQ around these parts. Consistent. I don't know how to describe the sauce... it's thin like a vinegar sauce, but dark and sweet like a KC style sauce. Try it and let me know.

Yelp
The food is "off the chain" meaning totally scrumptious! The service is pleasant, cordial and welcoming. I love the ambiance. It's like a diner filled with great Ohio memorabilia. Can't say enough ... Furthermore, the food is delectable. The staff very friendly, kinda like family, to match the down home 'cookin. And, the dining experience is extremely pleasant. Bathrooms sanitary. Highly recommend this outstanding community treasure!

Yelp
The brisket nachos are EVERYTHING! I was never a big brisket fan, but this is it. Delicious every single time. They also have an assortment of sauces and that's fun too.

Yelp
I went by the overall rating, but looking back, most of the reviews are 1-2 years old. Apparently it has changed a lot in that time. Spent $40 and didn't finish my sandwich. The coleslaw was bleh and the meat was fatty. I have zero desire to eat here ever again. They were also out of Brunswick stew, which may be a blessing since the rest of the food was edible, but not worth the calories. Fries were average at best. I'm so disappointed and sad that we don't have a decent bbq place right down the road.

Yelp
Came in today for my 2nd visit to place a order and the older/mature lady who works the counter always has a bad attitude or energy as if she doesn't want to answer questions pertaining to the menu or just completely doesn't want to be bothered. You can ask her the most simplest question and she will respond as if she doesn't have time to answer that question. I simply just said no thank you and walked out for the 2nd time. How do you label yourself a business but some of your counter staff completely misses every time just placing a to-go order. In a time of recession and uncertainty no business can afford to lose customers or have a bad review posted on an app that lowers your rating and customer count. As a person who has many years of food and beverage all over Atlanta I know for certain the front of the house is the frontline to customers. Your cashier or to-go person should be friendly and warm especially when you have a unique menus with sold out signs hanging up when you guys run out of certain products. From my point of view To-Go must make up a lot of your business because the last two times I have came to this location the tables are empty but guests are ordering To-Go. I could of gave up after the first time this happen but I can all the way back to this location for the same thing to happen twice. In the restaurant/service industry there are plenty of trainings all staff do periodically for customer service and or food/alcohol safety. As a business owner I would want the best fit as my frontline staff always. Those people who know how to do that well can create ever lasting memories for a lifetime or generation of customers because that visit to a local mom/pop restaurant was memorable. Please get the right staff in the front or at least have them trained properly to deal with customers who just may have a question..... A family owned business is supposed to be better than this because it's not controlled y a corporation. They can quickly fix any problems in house and change the narrative. The back of the house is only as important as the people who help customers and collect payments in the front. You guys really need some help at your counter. She will run many people away or they just may not want to return. 0-2‼ Jim & Nicks would never act like this at the counter.

Yelp
Best BBQ Outside of Texas I have ever had! Attended a local birthday party where the catered food fleas from Ohio Hog. I was blown away by the flavors of all the meats and sides. The thin cut "rib tips" were new for me but were absolutely something I will be looking for again. I am from Austin Texas and have very high standards for BBQ, as this is the # city and state for this cuisine; and this place is simply the best I have had outside of Texas.

Yelp
Ohio Hog Company is Outstanding BBQ!! This is my family's go to. We love everything from the rib tips to the Mac n cheese. We have had several items from the menu. Pretty much everything tasted good.

Katrina S.

Yelp
Good was really good. Best brisket sandwich I've had in a long time. The stew was also delicious.

Yelp
The owner is absolutely rude, she has no business hospitality. When i walked in to get my order, she says "what is the name the order is under?" She didnt say hi or welcome. I told her im not sure, i didnt recall the initial person who took my order over the phone asking for my name she did ask for my phone number when i called, i gave It to her and she said my name, i guess through caller ID. However i told the lady i was not sure can she look it up by my phone number? Because i had ordered for my husband to pick up, so i didnt remember if i gave his name or mine. She so rudly said, "no i cant look it up by your phone number" as if she was bothered, my hubby was with me all i could do was tell her she is so rude and walk away. Then i remembered an occurrence the last time i visited i felt like she was rude, i just assumed she was having a bad day. owner is so rude she will turn you off on returning to that established, she shows no kindness,. I gave it a second try, but she is just plain old rude. She is definitely has no people skills! Won't be going back there.

Yelp
Small, family run place. Friendly hard working folks. Nice interior. Across from Publix. But the best part is the food. The brisket is the best I've ever had.

Yelp
I used to go out of my way to go to the Ohio hog company. Now I'm going to go out of my way to avoid it. In the past two years OHC has gone way down hill. They are frequently out of items, regardless the time of day. The dining room is still closed. The employees working the counter act like they could care less about their job or if the customer is satisfied or not. During my last visit I went back inside to ask for a ranch dressing. The kid looked me dead in the eye and told me they didn't have any when I could see a huge pile of it from where we were standing. Don't lie to me. The BBQ sauce now tastes very commercialized. No authentic flavor like it used to have. They have not made tea the past few times I've been in there. I will say that the ribs still taste great but the pork is dry. The Brunswick stew is pretty good. Part of the reason I used to frequent this place was because the owners were there often and put effort into customer service.

Yelp
We wanted to try a new place for bbq, we yelped and this place has really good reviews and now we see why. There were quite a few people in the restaurant which is always a good sign, and they have a sign that says they sell out daily which is also a good sign... I ordered the pulled chicken sandwich and collared greens. My sandwich was full of meat, and the sauce was good. I truly appreciate them not making the collared greens not being cooked with meat in them. They were so good I wished I had purchased some more... my husband had the ribs and chicken combo. He loved his chicken but he wasn't in love with the ribs he says they were boiled first and they were too rubbery for him.. but he also got collared greens and that made up for him... and I really liked their cornbread too. I will surely be back for more bbq..

Yelp
I've been searching for WONDERFUL BBQ, and today was the day! Ohio Hog Company has fine service and super DELICIOUS food. I enjoyed a 1/2 slab with baked beans and collards. The ribs were large, meaty, and fall off the bone tender! Terrific! The baked beans were hot and tasty, but not too sweet and the collards were hot and spiced just right! I had the pleasure of meeting the owner and conveyed my distinct delight in experiencing their fabulous food! I'll be back often! GREAT JOB!

Yelp
Been wanting to try this place for a while now. Their hours are a little odd due to the pandemic but the food is still as great as I've heard! I ordered the rib tip dinner with sides of Greens and Baked beans. The rib tips were bomb. They slice their rib tips but the meat is plentiful nonetheless. The way the cut it makes some of the bones edible, and it's so good you'll try to eat them! Lol. I love the way they slice the rib tips so for me it's an instant classic. The sauce was slightly just above average for me but still complimented their flavor great. It reminded me more of a glaze than a sauce with the consistency. It was sweet with hickory elements but not really really sweet just a tad. The greens were underwhelming. Nevertheless, they were cooked superbly and had excellent texture. The baked beans were really good as well. I loved the sauce or whatever you call it that makes them baked beans, and you can tell they make them from scratch! Dope Another gem you'll find on their menu are they're jalapeño cheese curds. I got them with my meal and added to my order after already initially paying for my meal. So glad I didn't miss this! Very comparable to many cheese curds you'll find at chain restaurants, except better! Don't let the jalapeños deter you either. They do have a hint of spice, but I wouldn't call these curds spicy! They were so good I had to double back and get them the same week! Might double back today after work and get them! Overall, 5/5. Dope classic bbq house style interior. Great food. Good vibes, family owned, black owned. What more could you ask for?! I'd highly recommend Ohio Hog, and now it's one of my favorites in the Atlanta Metro area.

Yelp
Tyrone GA is on the Map Everyone can't make brisket. These people got Ancestors in the back cooking. Consistency is the word. Brisket always off the rails!!!! Potato salad, bake beans, mac&cheese PROPER..... NUFF SAID. GET THERE ALREADY

Yelp
To all my family from Clevland Ohio we can go home without leaving Atlanta Georgia it's call the Ohio hog by words of a good friend I'll stop by there today and had a Polish boy I haven't had one in over 27 years the smile on my face is so big the only thing was missing was a cotton club cherry strawberry soda pop the ribs are spot on it was worth the drive so to all my Family from Clevland please check them out

Barbara S.

Yelp
I just had the best ribs from here. They were cooked to perfection. The toasted bread was delicious. My daughter and I had no complaints. I have had a bad experience here but giving a second chance I was glad I did. Whoever cooked the ribs on Saturday coming up to two weeks ago please keep up the good work. Two thumbs up!

Pascal D.

Yelp
Found myself randomly in this parking lot while searching for a quick bite to eat during my lunch break. Stumbled upon Ohio Hog Company and I'm so glad I did. I can't speak to any of the other food they serve, but the BBQ Brisket sandwich was unreal. The bread was tasty, toasted to perfection, and the meat was quite savory with just the right amount of sweetness to the sauce. If all of the other food is this good, I'll be a regular.
google avatar

Sha L.

Yelp
The bbq was good and service was good also. I love there bbq sauce . The chicken was delicious and so were the collard greens. I

Russ G.

Yelp
Pretty good BBQ, but nothing to set them apart. It's takeout only now. It's always good to support a small family owned business. I'd go back if I was in the area.

RCR R.

Yelp
Very disappointed with the quality of the food. Ordered beef brisket, ribs, baked beans, potato salad, fried okra, coleslaw and fries. Everything was very bland, potato salad was made with miracle whip and the coleslaw was on the sweet side. Beef brisket was sliced very thin and lots of fat on the meat.....no flavor whatsoever. Ribs were at least tender but on the small side. Baked beans tasted like they came out of a can. Fries looked like they were leftover from the days last cooked batch. Fried okra was run of the mill. To boot, the young woman who took my order was not welcoming at all, with this being said, I will not be returning to this establishment anytime soon.

Donna M.

Yelp
Sooooo good! The brisket melts in your mouth! The greens and cornbread are just like grandmas. We will be back!
google avatar

Michael W.

Yelp
The food here was amazing!!! Yes--they did run out of what I wanted but that led me to try some new things--pulled pork and rib tips! Honestly, these were the best rib tips I have ever had--great smoke flavor and a perfect crust. The pulled pork was moist and perfectly seasoned. The Mac and cheese was good--not the best but good. Fries were crispy and delicious. The service was great too--the staff was friendly and accommodating. Frankly, if this is how good the B entrees are I can only imagine how great the stuff they ran out of is. Can't wait to come back and try their other items!

Derrick M.

Yelp
Good Savory food and prompt delivery. I had the 1/2 chicken it was very good and they have reasonable prices.
google avatar

Vivian W.

Yelp
The brisket was horrible the pulled pork was super dry we threw the whole meal out. Don't waste your money you have been warned.

Bridget C.

Yelp
The ribs are good and I also enjoy the sides. I will try a different dish next visit. Not really a friendly staff but they take care of business as my take out order was ready when I arrived.
google avatar

Drew F.

Yelp
This is some of the best BBQ south of Atlanta, the rib tips are amazing and their BBQ sauce i perfect. So why am I giving this place only 3 stars? The service and attitude of the staff is very poor. If they actually seemed happy or interested in serving their customers this place would be too notch.
google avatar

Monique H.

Yelp
The BBQ isn't bad. My complaint is that the food isn't consistent. The sides are very good. I would recommend the baked beans and collard greens.

Amanda R.

Yelp
Great sauce! Brisket & chicken is tender & juicy.. even the white meat! Rib tips have crisp edges... so delicious. Greens & cornbread top notch! Only thing missing was some southern sweet tea. But w'ell definitely be back!

J S.

Yelp
I've passed by this place for years and finally thought to try it. Boy have I been missing out. I've returned so many times because it is just that good. Pros: Meat is tender. Sides and BBQ sauce is good. Con: They do run out/sale out of certain items before closing time.

Jay Y.

Yelp
FIRE EMOJIS!!!!! Brisket - superb Mac n cheese, I will fight you right now if you say yours is better. But that brisket... it is almost sexual lol Big ups from a bbq man himself. Go Browns
google avatar

Glen B.

Yelp
My wife and I agreed that the Ohioans had the best potato salad we've ever had. Very tangy like we like it. Everything else, save the rib ends, were above average. The ends were tasty, but not meaty enough. Brisket was very tender and tasty. Could of had a little better bark on the brisket, but I'm a brisket snob. Would rank the brisket an 7.5 out of 10. Great personable service too.

Don W.

Yelp
My favorite barbecue in the area. Always consistent. The brisket is excellent. Mac and cheese is definitely my favorite side.

T G.

Yelp
This place has good food. However, don't order food after 5pm because they probably have ran out of their popular food items. Also, if you dare to ask for two of the same items like Mac and Cheese around that time. The owner ( the mother) will not like that. She shook her head at me like nope you can't order two Mac and cheese and then she was aware of her actions and gave it to me. I am not going back because I had two bad experiences with this restaurants. Customer service is my pet peeve .
google avatar

Mare G.

Yelp
Soooo good. I knew as soon as I came through the door - the wonderful odor of bbq! Ribs were fall off the bone - tender, moist, & smokey good. The brisket was cooked to perfection. Rib tips were excellent too. The baked beans were smoked & yummy. Cole slaw was very good, Brunswick stew was very good, collard greens were also tasty - too full for the cornbread muffin & pan-fried toast - have to go home with the leftovers. I will be back - too good to not. Maybe the best ribs & beans seem to date. The lady behind the counter was very friendly too.
google avatar

Rachel P.

Yelp
Pulled pork sandwich on Texas toast with fries and a drink for $10. Three types of sauce spicy, tangy, and sweet. Pork was delicious with spicy and tangy sauce. Not my favorite fry preparation, lil soft and over cooked. Overall left very full and happy, I tried a sample of rib tips too and I would get that next time, really delicious smoky flavor. Staff was very friendly and nice.
google avatar

Jack B.

Yelp
Don't even bother. They sell out of almost everything at noon! Like it's a badge of honor. You order food then they tell you it's all sold out. Gimme a break. It's not even that great, either. Learn how to run a business. Please don't reply with the standard, "I'm sorry you didn't...blah blah blah".

Jeremy C.

Yelp
Moved here two months ago and my wife and I was looking for barbecue and ran across this gem. Great food and happy it's black owned. This is my spot!!!! Will always come back!

Kitty K.

Yelp
I tried to order from this restaurant for a while. Every time I called the person answering did not say "may I help you " or " thank you for calling ". I received " Hello " very rudely. And cut me off when I tried placing a order. I thought maybe they couldn't hear me, so I asked her, do you her me ok. And she hung up. This was done twice! I would like to try it. I'm from Memphis so I love a good BBQ. I going to try one more time before I strike out! Hopefully someone with customer service skills will answer..

Otis W.

Yelp
Amazing barbecue. I wish it were closer to Atlanta. Great meets and sides. Great portions. Great service. Black owned!
google avatar

Daniel B.

Yelp
I could eat here everyday! The brisket is so tender and smoky! I could bathe in the bbq sauce they have! Not a bad thing on the menu! Highly recommend this place! Two thumbs up!!
google avatar

Felicia B.

Yelp
Second and last time coming here. Service is slow and food isn't great. Last time I had ribs they were tough and I waited 30 minutes. This time I ordered rib tips and a pork sandwich. Was told about 5 minutes. Needless to say 20 minutes later I'm still waiting. Alls find it interesting there's a sign to employees on the kitchen door that says "no cell phone use during work hours. If you need to use your cell phone for something urgent then clock out". This tells me the way this place is ran and the types of people they hire. Which explains the mediocre food and lying about wait time.

Peter B.

Yelp
Stumbled on this place by happenstance and boy, what a find! I had the brisket plate w/ fired okra and my buddy had the pulled pork plate w/ fries. Both were delicious! I especially liked the spicy sauce. Atmosphere was warm, clean and inviting and the folks were super friendly & very helpful in offering recommendations for what we should try. Definitely go out of your way to try this place...you won't be sorry!
google avatar

Steve C.

Yelp
So your looking for BBQ near Peachtree City? Just go north to Ohio Hog Company -- its worth the drive and offers a better experience than the normal chain BBQ restaurants. I had the regular dinner size of beef tips and 3 sides: potato salad, mac & cheese, and baked beans. The beef tips were deliciously covered in bbq sauce and tender -- not overcooked. The potato salad provided a creamy contrast to the flavorful bbq. The macaroni was held together by melted oozes of cheese. And finally, the baked beans were full of flavor and had chunks of beef brisket. All of this food was more than enough to fill me for one night, I can't imagine how much food comes in the large beef tips. This place also has a small selection of beer, including Yuengling.
google avatar

Kevin R.

Yelp
This is one of the best barbeque places in probably a 50 mile radius. The meat is very tender and the sides are amazing. The food was so good that after getting the brisket nachos with a side of colaed greens, I then proceeded to order a rib basket with macaroni for tomorrow's lunch. If you are remotely close to tyrone/Fayatteville/Peachtree City then you should be eating at this place. Also if I'm not mistaken is a black owned business as well.

Carolyn R.

Yelp
Hands down the best BBQ I have ever eaten. The brisket its tender and delicious encrusted with the most flavorful brine. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. this is now the only BBQ I will eat! Thank you for the amazing culinary delight!

Elizabeth C.

Yelp
the last time i ordered here it was really good. the polish boy sandwich ($8) is super yummy. the beef brisket sandwich basket ($15) is so tiny and not worth it at all
google avatar

Monika W.

Yelp
If you are a looking for cool small local place to get good BBQ I will highly recommend Ohio Hog. The place is really casual with a local vibe. Food: my favorite is the pulled pork but also the brisket is mighty fine. The deep fried cheese balls are crazy good and there also another deep fried thing to obsess over since you might as well; these dessert things. They look like pastry tarts kind of but they are so deliciously deep fried!! So, my favorite thing about the place is the fact that it's small and organically cool (I mean they didn't go out and try to be cool, just is). It's not a hipster stupid place that is funded with daddy's money and trying too hard. This place has the authenticity of a place stomped down to its rugged condition by Tyrone Policeman and Women and by the local moms and pops who bring their household down to smell that earth smoldering smoke. No frills. No hoopla.
google avatar

Renee M.

Yelp
Unbelievable how slow this place is .. will never return! 45 min for a pork sandwich!?
google avatar

Lee L.

Yelp
Love this place. They cut up the rib tips which is a bit weird but the smoke flavor and sauce was on point. Being from the home of "St. Louis style ribs" I'm a bit of a barbecue snob. This place was like home. Sides as also good. I'll definitely be back.
