The 26 Best Restaurants In Kansas City, Missouri - Kansas City - The Infatuation

"This restaurant at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art serves a satisfying brunch and a rotating prix-fixe dinner that’s the real standout. They’re not playing it safe for museum-goers either. When we were there, the menu had grasshoppers, crispy pineapple potatoes, and a chocolate cake with shiitake ice cream that we’re still thinking about. The dining area is sleek and modern, with skylights and windows allowing you to watch tourists taking in the lobby installations. The chef claims the menu is in conversation with the artists, which totally tracks when you’re sipping mezcal and watching locals admire a Mexican artist’s newest installation. We’re still connecting the dots between chicharróns and the somewhat terrifying Picasso and Francis Bacon reproductions lurking in the next room." - ryan bernsten

Sunday brunch was quite delightful. I recommend the watermelon and the peach. The service was great, the atmosphere was great. Of course the museum is an added bonus. I must see when you're in Kansas City.

This was a beautiful dinner experience! First you encounter the charming atmosphere as the restaurant is nestled inside the Kemper Museum, so your experience already feels like elevated as you’re surrounded by art during your meal. The service was certainly top notch as well. Very professional and friendly throughout. I give them high praise for the VERY unique dishes they serve. We went the night before Valentine’s Day and they had multi course dinner with an omnivore option and a vegetarian option. I went with the vegetarian option and I very much enjoyed it! I was highly impressed by the creativity and I overall enjoyed the flavor. Apologies on this review though that I don’t recall the names of each dish. I look forward to returning to try more from them!

We had a great brunch today. Service was good, our server read the table and was there but not over the top for 5 ladies. I had the beef kofta and it was delicious. You get one kofta in a buttery flatbread. The harissa made the dish. Just a little spicy heat with the herbs in the beef. Just good. We were gifted the scones and they were okay, a little dry but the jam was delicious and I would eat it on everything.

My partner and I decided to come here for our anniversary brunch and we were pleasantly impressed! The courtyard was full of beautiful light and even on a dreary winter morning, it felt warm and inviting. We were both talking about the scones nonstop after eating them, and our entrees were excellent as well. We will definitely be back!

Love to introduce friends and family to this art museum and restaurant. Every visit is a success at converting a fan from 12 to 65 years old. Great food, great art and art activities. Always enjoy the gift shop and engaged staff. A walk around the the block and Art Institute grounds to admire local sculptures is a great way to digest a rich brunch/lunch.

The atmosphere in the dining area is amazing. The room is flooded with light and so beautiful. It was very nice to see they are also dog friendly 🦮. The food was okay, it was nothing special though I also have no complaints. Based on how beautiful the dining room is, I would go here again

Google
Very good food. Staff was overwhelmed and it was maybe 35% full. Scones are small but magnificent, cappuccino was very good, grilled octopus was incredible. Soup of the day was Hungarian Goulash Soup. It had chicken and what looked like hand-made noodles. Great flavor, a bit on the salty side. Cafe is floor-to-ceiling paintings inside with a nice covered courtyard available too. 20% discount for Kemper Museum members

Yelp
We went for the 4 course meal on a Thursday night. The portions are really good. You won't leave feeling hungry. I loved the veggie/seafood/meat options, and you can always pick a la carte between them. The flavors were very good, one of the best fine dining experiences I have had in KC. The cocktails were unique, interesting, and tasty. They brought a surprise flatbread course with accoutrements before the entree which was fantastic: easily worth $15 in and of itself. The desserts were a standout. Truly fantastic. The space is also very unique and beautiful. Spacious and full of sunlight. I hope they gain more business! It was pretty empty when we dined; they're definitely deserving of more patronage. Our waiter was also fantastic. Service was great.

Yelp
Yes yes yes. Everything about this meal was lovely, from service to setting - how fun to eat in the middle of an art exhibit! We started with the bread basket and every single item was delicious (sweet AND savory options included). My main was the harissa chicken, served skewered over a bed of zucchini and grains, alongside a tomato based sauce. 10/10 on the char and 100/10 on the seasoning - the flavors blended perfectly. Wrapped up with the chocolate cake and earl grey tea ice cream, both of which were delicious. Bonus points for the candied orange peel (too addicting).

Yelp
Delicious, delicious, delicious. Four of us shared a pastry basket which we will now do every time we go there. My Earl Gray latte was warm and amazing and the perfect foil for the best blueberry muffin I've ever eaten. Green Shakshuka with kale and poblano was so flavorful and the poached egg was everything. My husband's reuben was beautiful, delicious and enormous. You will not leave hungry. Kudos to Mr Habiger for another great restaurant (I'm talking about you Room 39) and hats off to chef Castello for some mighty tasty food. While we were finishing our meal, we were planning our return. Also, service was great and the assistant manager came by our table just to check in and was very nice and fun too.

Yelp
Grabbed lunch at oil and linen with some friends on a Saturday morning. First, I love that the Kemper Museum has a restaurant! We had reservations and were seated quickly, but from then on, service was very slow. I ordered a cocktail and it was good, but it took a while for them to make it. Our friends ordered scones, and they took a long time to come out, as well. I had a quesadilla and it was incredible and I loved that it went with the current exhibit! Honestly... if service had been faster, this probably would have been 5 stars. My husband even commented that people who ordered after us got their food before us. I also felt that it was a little pricey for what we got.

Yelp
Inside the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Oil On Linen occupies the space that Cafe Sebastien once nobly resided. The interior dining room with floor to ceiling pop-art interpretations and the courtyard with glass ceiling and adorned with large paintings throughout the large vibrant space, give Oil On Linen a leg up on other restaurant's decor and vibe. I ordered off the brunch menu on a Saturday afternoon. The Lucia Vidales Quesadilla was a must for my inaugural visit. The dish was named for and co-created by the artist whose major art piece: "Hambre", which is on temporary display in the main labby. The quesadilla with Oaxacan cheese, butternut squash, black beans, salsa rojo and huitlacoche (corn fungus) was an absolute grand slam with its appearance and taste. I now understand why huitlacoche is considered a delicacy in Vidales native Mexico. I also enjoyed a perfect espresso shot from Broadway roasters while I waited on my entree, admired the paintings surrounding me and listened to the sounds of a youth piano recital wafting in from the lobby. A perfect afternoon to savor the holiday season and enjoy all things artistic in this fabulous city.

Yelp
Valentines Day dinner date! We went here for a pre Valentine's Day dinner and enjoyed ourselves. It was nice being amongst the art and the atmosphere was very inviting and the service was very nice. There was a pre set carnivore menu that I indulged in and there were definitely some highlights! We shared a bottle of red wine: Selene and it was robust and yet light. We really enjoyed it. As a first taste I was given an oyster that was tasty because I tasted a hint of red wine vinegar. It provided a sharp contrast to the oyster flavor that I enjoyed. Next was the foie gras that was very tender but it was lukewarm and I am not sure if that was intentional or not, but it distracted a bit from the flavor. It was paired with what tasted like apples and they were the perfect addition, but the real highlight of that course was the crispy string potatoes. They were fried perfectly and left me wanting more! Lastly was the steak, seasoned to perfection and the absolute perfect internal temperature. We will definitely be back again in the future to taste their seasonal menus.

Yelp
It an amazing restaurant with a James Beard nominated chef attached to the modern art museum. Very unique!! Food is great!
