Oink’s Dutch Treat Ice Cream – New Buffalo, MI 👍👍👍👍👍 A staple of summer tourism in New Buffalo, Oink’s Dutch Treat is more than just an ice cream shop—it’s a nostalgic destination. Open since 1987, it’s known for its whimsical pig-themed decor, massive flavor variety, and long lines that are well worth the wait. Both locals and tourists flock here after beach days or meals at nearby restaurants, making it a must-stop for visitors exploring Southwest Michigan. FOOD QUALITY 👍 The ice cream is rich, creamy, and loaded with flavor options—over 50 to choose from, including unique seasonal favorites and all-time classics. Whether you’re getting a cone, sundae, or shake, everything is consistently delicious and generously portioned. SERVICE & HOSPITALITY 👍 Despite the crowds, the staff works efficiently with smiles on their faces. Lines move quickly, and they’re always willing to offer samples to help with tough flavor decisions. VALUE FOR MONEY 👍 Pricing is fair considering the portion sizes and quality. Whether you go for a single scoop or a specialty sundae, you’ll leave satisfied. AMBIENCE & CLEANLINESS 👍 Quirky pig decor and vintage signs create a fun, family-friendly vibe. Indoor and outdoor seating is available, and the shop maintains a clean and inviting space despite heavy foot traffic. LOCATION & ACCESSIBILITY 👍 Centrally located in New Buffalo, it’s an easy walk from most of the town’s restaurants, shops, and beach area. Street parking is available nearby and usually manageable.

The ice cream here is just ok since it’s gummy with fillers and a little too sweet, but I’m not mad about it since the overall atmosphere is so iconic and joyful. And they will split a single scoop with two flavors which is kind of them. It’s a nice little ice cream oasis for the family and an Americana curiosity of anything pig collection related. I hope this place stays here forever.

Visited on 02/19/2025 Lovely little ice cream parlor with lots of oink-related memorabilia! Not something you see anywhere else! The ceiling is decorated with timepiece ice cream scoops, too! I counted an impressive 49 flavors of ice cream while enjoying our ice cream inside. Surely, there’s something for everyone. There are so many unique and fun flavors too, which I wished I tasted all. Another reason to come back another time! We enjoyed our delicious and creamy ice cream and would be back again!

Google
One of the best places to get ice cream that we've been to in a good long while. Friendly atmosphere and lots of amazing flavors to choose from and the decor is simply amazing. I highly recommend this place or everybody

Google
A cute vintage pig themed ice cream shop. Lots of flavors with creative names. Ice cream was good but nothing out of this world. It's a small space and I went on a busy night so we were packed like sardines. Service was fast but I kinda felt rushed.

If you’re anywhere near New Buffalo, a stop at Oinks Ice Cream is a must! This place is full of charm and nostalgia—from the vintage decor and pig-themed everything to the massive selection of ice cream flavors. It’s the kind of spot that instantly transports you to a carefree summer day, no matter your age. We tried several flavors, and each one was rich, creamy, and full of flavor. The staff was super friendly and patient as we took forever to decide what we wanted. The atmosphere is fun, quirky, and totally family-friendly—our kids were obsessed with the pig collectibles covering the walls. It’s a New Buffalo classic for a reason. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, Oinks is the perfect sweet stop after a beach day or evening stroll.

Oinks is pure summertime magic in the heart of New Buffalo! From the moment you walk up to the pink pig-covered building, you know you’re in for a treat. The variety of ice cream flavors, waffle cones, and retro charm make it a favorite for visitors and locals alike. As a local real estate agent, I always tell my clients: if you want to get a taste of what makes this town special, start at Oinks. It’s more than just dessert it’s part of the New Buffalo experience. Whether you’re strolling from the beach or just finished a showing, it’s the perfect spot to cool down and smile big. Don’t miss it!

Wow! So many unique and creative flavors + the classics. I got Rush hour and my husband got mocha almond fudge. Service was great and the ice cream was amazing! Nice shaded seating area outside. Great place!

Yelp
Awesome spot for after dinner snacks. The line can be long, but the teams runs through the orders REALLY quick. It would probably be faster if they had a second POS system but they move super quick as is . The ice cream is delicious. They have cones, bowls, sundaes, banana splits, and everything else you would expect. Classic flavors like cookies and cream and house specialties like banana pudding. The vibe is just fun and high energy and everything we had was delicious so no complaints.

Yelp
Tons of flavors. Efficient service. Reasonable prices. Yummy ice cream - I had candy jar and mint cookie. Some seating out front but I walked and ate my ice cream on the way home. Definitely the place to go for ice cream in town!

Yelp
How cute is this place! They went all in on their Oink theme - there were pigs everywhere! All sorts of knickknacks covered the walls inside. There were also some fun touches outside, including a pig bench where you could grab a photo opportunity. No seating -or real room- inside, as it gets quite packed with the line, but there is some outside. Service moves quite efficiently - you grab a number when you enter and get called when it's your turn. There are so many flavors that we barely managed to read them all before our number was up! Tough choice, but as chocolate and mint lovers, we couldn't resist the call of Cool Mint Cookie, described as "a mint ice cream stuffed with mint cookie balls, Andes mints, and a chocolate cookie fudge swirl." Cool and refreshing! Very fun stop. The back side is a chocolate and candy shop, and we grabbed some chocolate covered peanuts to go for later!

Yelp
Oinks is a super cute and kitschy ice cream shop in New Buffalo, with tons of piggy themed knick knacks on every surface. The employees are super fast and friendly, so don't be discouraged even if there's a line. The lemon cheesecake ice cream is absolutely amazing. I deeply regret not getting a pint of it to go. I'm trying to find excuses to go back to New Buffalo just to stop by Oinks :)
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing ice cream with unforgettable decor! It's a fun little spot and we'll definitely be back to try some different flavors! Wonderful selection, delicious ice cream, and a cute gift shop! Tons of photo ops!

Yelp
Considering President Biden and others made a dessert halt here it lived up to the hype. The high school kids manning the counter utterly cute, patient and helpful when letting folks get a taste of the various flavors. I had half a scoop of chocolate and half a scoop of pistachio both of which were perfect sweetness which is how I like it not too overpowering. I love local family owned places and this was such a great find, totally worth passing up rainbow cone to come here.My only problem again was the bathroom, 1 stall with a urinal and potty seat needs upgrading for the huge beeline of tourists and locals. please invest in it to make the experience better!

Yelp
We LOVE Oink's. I'm in New Buffalo consistently and is one of my favorite places to stop by in the summer. Even though the crowds are crazy inside the store, the staff works efficiently to get your ice cream to you as soon as possible. We are always so pleased with their service and the ice cream itself. A little costly but is a great environment!

Charlotte M.

Yelp
Very yummy but overpriced. There is about 20 flavors my favorite is Oreo. A little bit to cluttered. In the summer it is very busy.
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
I really like the amaretto cherry and pistachio ice creams. The chocolate had an icy texture, but the flavor was ok. Waffle cone was good.

Yelp
This place is wonderful! Had amazing ice cream & a visual fiesta for your eyes to look at all the Knick Knacks in the store! Love it!!

Yelp
A1 for ambience. A fine old time ice cream shop. Also you can order online and pick up at the take out window; which I've done when nothing but a quart of Moose Trax will smooth things out at the end of an evening. A wide selection of ice cream and I also find that their chocolate shakes take me to a good place. Here's a salute to the good folks at Oinks!
google avatar

Annie S.

Yelp
Oinks is always a treat! They have so man flavors to choose from, you can't go wrong. The only drawback to Oinks is that they are busy, so depending on when you go, you will probably wait in line. They have minimal outdoor seating and no indoor seating. They have a bathroom.

Yelp
Ice Cream was delicious. I tried the black cherry ice cream, and it was delicious. We also took a pint of spumoni home, which was good too. Ice Cream was not full of sugar; flavors came through, and they were creamy--good quality ice cream. The young person who served me struggled to answer my question as it was my family's first time there. I asked what are your most popular flavors? Another worker laughed and said well, do you want an answer based on statistics . Wow, luckily, another worker joined in; this is now the third worker; he answered, "I think..." I appreciated his response. I was disappointed in the response from the second guy, who I wasn't talking to to begin with. I assume the first person may have been new. It's essential to know how to respond intelligently and be self-aware. It seems like a bunch of young high school workers. It was tight inside. You grab a number and wait for it to be called, and then you are served. Me and my family enjoyed the ice cream but felt that it was chaotic inside. You would need to sit outside as the inside has no seating area. We didn't get a chance to check out the backside of their establishment. I want to go there again to try out other flavors and observe current service one more time.

Yelp
Nice local ice cream shop. Hand scooped ice cream with many flavor options. I had the banana pudding flavor which I haven't seen at a ton of ice cream shops. It was also good! I would hands down get this flavor again. I'm glad they had a kids cup size as I just wanted a small treat.

Yelp
After a long day of visiting New Buffalo I finally made it to Oink's for an ice cream cone. It was super busy but the workers were patient. I love how vintage, original, and cozy it is. There's only a few places to sit inside but most people opted to hang out outside anyways. I was basic and got mint chocolate chip but they have plenty of flavors to choose from!
google avatar

Tanya W.

Yelp
We live in the area and love going to Oink's! The ice cream is top notch, but the service is even better! Mostly young staff with great manners and work ethic. These kids are still so kind even during the busy summer season when they can get quite busy. This is a must visit if you are in the area!

Yelp
Amazing ice cream! Classic small town/vacation town ice cream shop with tons of flavors and kitsch. It does get a long line at night, but be patient because it moves fast. I liked it so much that I bought a tshirt on my second visit in one vacation (I wish they had comfort colors!) They do accept credit cards now.

Yelp
Oinks is the most popular ice cream spot in New Buffalo. They stay open late which is convenient for an after dinner treat. There is a decent sized parking lot but it can get super crowded. Since it's off a main highway getting in and out of the parking lot can be tricky. There isn't an organized line to be served. Instead you take a number from one of those meat market paper number machines. They will call your number and one person will scoop all your ice cream. It feels a little chaotic with people yelling the numbers to be served then patrons yelling their orders. Nonetheless the ice cream is delicious!! My favorite flavors are Tennessee toffee, nanas banana pudding, and pecan and praline. They have so many different flavors and they will let you sample them to find the perfect option.
google avatar

Yelp
The best ice cream parlor around!! Don't be surprised when the line is out of the door!! Go in, grab a number and and check out all the pig themed decor while you wait. It goes by fast!! You're able to try free samples, which is great! They have some tables outside you can sit and enjoy your ice cream!
google avatar

Yelp
I was craving ice cream on a hot summer day and this place hit the spot! Loved the cookie dough ice cream.

Samantha Z.

Yelp
Such good ice cream. I did call to check the time with the employee since hours were different on their website and on Google maps- lady on the phone kinda yelled at me about a call she had with someone else? I'm not sure lol, all love though- best ice cream I've ever had. Such cute charm and such good flavors
google avatar

Gabrielle N.

Yelp
The ice cream here was just standard ice cream you would get just about anywhere but with a good variety of flavors. The service was my main complaint. The person serving us our ice cream was rude and tried to hurry us along even though it was not busy. It truly does fit in with the quaintness of the town and is a cute place to visit after a beach day.
google avatar

Susie W.

Yelp
Big scoops of delicious ice cream in a delightfully kitschy setting. I had a waffle cone with a Banana Pudding scoop and and a Jacked Up Tennessee Toffee scoop -- for dinner! No regrets.
google avatar

Elise A.

Yelp
I came here to get ice cream and it was great! There wasn't a big line and the service was very quick! The decorations are so cute!!
google avatar

Yelp
Great ice cream selections and milkshakes. They give you large scoops as well. My family and I were staying in a vacation home nearby. One afternoon all 10+ of us took a trip just to grab ice cream. The parking lot was empty and we thought it was closed but no, we just got lucky! The place started to get crowded a few minutes after arriving.

Ann Marie F.

Yelp
Great choice of flavors! I had pistachio and butter pecan. I was thrilled that they happily mix flavors!
google avatar

Jaclyn W.

Yelp
Today was our first time here. I absolutely love the ice cream shop, it's very cute. The inside decorations of all pigs was so cute and I enjoyed it. The banana pudding ice cream was phenomenal. I also ordered the dairy free birthday cake ice cream and it was pretty good. If I happen to be in the area again I would definitely return.

Sam S.

Yelp
Busy, but super friendly staff and great ice cream options. Found a table outside and always a highlight for the kids' evenings in Union Pier.
google avatar

Yelp
Really good ice cream. Big portions if you get a cone. Definitely recommend!! If your bringing family get ready to wait in line or check out the gift shop!
google avatar

Alice N.

Yelp
Delightful! Delicious, creamy smooth ice cream available in so many flavors! Charming shop with a massive collection of pig, ice cream packages & scoopers to view. Perfect place to stop off 94, plenty of parking & seating. The customer service is fantastic & the line moves fast so don't run if you see a line. They have an atm too.

Yelp
This really might be my favorite place ever based on name alone, but the ice cream is so amazing that definitely was a place I was so happy to have found. I was driving around Southwest Michigan and a local told me to go to New Buffalo, it started to pour so I almost turned around and then came upon Oinks. What a sight! As soon as I pulled in I saw the creative signs and displays of pigs, I knew this was a great spot. There are two buildings, one is more of a gift shop and the other is where you get your ice cream. Inside the parlor is decorated in all things pigs. If you don't like pigs or are afraid, this place isn't for you. I ordered a strawberry milkshake (one size, 24 ounces). He asked if I wanted it to be made with strawberry ice cream or vanilla ice cream and strawberries. I chose the later and walked around the inside staring at all the decorations; again hundreds if not thousands of pigs. Even the bathroom has a poster of Miss Piggy in there! The handmade shake was delicious. The perfect thickness where it takes some energy to get out but doesn't feel like you're going to lose a tooth in the process. The team there was so nice. Everyone talked to you. I loved everything about this place. If I was a local I'd either work here or be here every day. It's definitely a must stop if you're in the area.

Yelp
Came here today and took over a dozen photos. I am a huge pig-lover and walked in and started crying happy tears. I was visiting the area (from Chicago) and this was my last stop of the trip before heading home. Wow. What a joy. The pig decor was DEEP. There were hundreds, if not thousands, of pig trinkets at kitsch everywhere. In the windows, on the walls, across the counter, behind the counter. Everywhere you look, pigs. To stay very on-brand with the pig theme, I had black cherry yogurt (a vibrant pink treat) in a plain sugar cone (chocolate covered sugar cones also available). There were dozens of enticing flavors (i.e.: traffic cone blues, apple crisp, and key lime pie!). This is only an hour and a half drive from Chicago and I WILL BE BACK. I PROMISE!!! A final moment, apparently Ice Cream Enthusiast, Joe Biden, has stopped here! Took a selfie with the proclamation plaque on the building's exterior.

Yelp
The absolute best around. And the service is outstanding. They hire some really nice kids to do the scooping.
google avatar

Elsa G.

Yelp
Cute little ice cream shop we stopped by after the beer church. Decorated in tons of pig memorabilia. The staff is extremely pleasant and helpful. Tons of different flavors. A great place for ice cream and hanging out with family or friends!
google avatar

Emily H.

Yelp
Good ice cream flavor selection and the place was bursting with fun pig themed kitsch. The staff were all very young and seemed overwhelmed by the crowds of people. The shakes were pretty watery. They were unfortunately not very flavorful, possibly due to the shake mixer not being cleaned between shakes. I ordered a strawberry shake and the previous shake made was some sort of mint with chocolate, so the flavor was a vague muddled mint and strawberry.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here with family to get some after dinner treats, and it did not disappoint! This was my first time here and you could definitely tell this place was a unique, local shop with a lot of character and history - the building is fully decorated with signs and knick knacks. I believe when I went it said it's been there for 37 years! I was surprised to see not just how many flavors they had, but also the different dietary restrictions they accommodate (dairy free, gluten free, sugar free). You take a ticket number when you go in (old fashioned) and they do allow samples if you're unsure. My partner and I got dairy free chocolate (super delicious!) and her family members got dairy options that they all loved. The scoops are big here - me and my partner got kid scoops and that was a lot for us! Overall, a very fun and unique local ice cream shop that we'd love to return to whenever we're in the area!

Yelp
Stumbled on this one during our last day trip out to New Buffalo. What a find! It's a family owned ice cream spot that's been around 30+ years. From inside out, this place is decked out in piggy themed toys and memorabilia to go along with the name Oink's. Really quite a sight to see a bunch of collectibles and even a Ford Model A sitting in the outside garage. Anyways, for an early Saturday afternoon we surprisingly didn't run into a long lines and were served right away. Plenty of classic flavors to choose from and I'll say the portions are very generous. My wife and I opted to share a single scoop on a cone which was plenty. Have those cameras ready to snap a pic here. Plenty of cool photo ops. Also, this spot is cash only, so have those dollar billz ready! 'Til next time, cheers!
google avatar

Paul B.

Yelp
Almost $6 for a very small scoop of ice cream is disappointing. Almost seemed like the girl serving me did it on purpose as others had bigger portions. The ice cream wasn't anything special either.

Mary B B.

Yelp
Vegetarian flavors were good. I really liked the banana pudding in a waffle cone. Atmosphere was funny, plenty to see which kept the little ones busy. Outdoor seating too
google avatar

Yelp
10/14/21 My friend, who lives near New Buffalo, took me to Oink's proclaiming that it is the best ice cream he's ever had. He even suggested that it's the one mandatory place to visit while in New Buffalo When we got there, his one suggestion was to get the waffle cone. I ordered Black Cherry with Mocha Almond Fudge on a waffle cone. Simply put, it lives up to the hype. The flavors were smooth and creamy, and the waffle cone was perfect. There was an overpowering flavor and everything complimented each other superbly. In addition to the great ice cream, the decorations are terrific! The shop is overflowing with pig imagery and trinkets - the parking signs included. It adds to  the appeal and the uniqueness of Oink's Overall, I highly recommend visiting Oink's! It's cute, tasty, and a great place to make memories. I also recommend that you get the waffle cone.
google avatar

Kristin H.

Yelp
Love this place! You can't expect long lines during peak season but believe me this place is worth the wait. Enjoy a small town experience, friendly service and a lot of ice cream choices. This is a must stop for us whenever we're in New Buffalo. The inside is small but hey have outdoor eating/picnic tables. A great place to enjoy all their eclectic signs and art. Your kiddos will love this place.
google avatar

Christopher F.

Yelp
Efficient and delicious. We used the walk up window. Several people were waiting for their orders as we ordered; only a few minutes and we had our ice cream. I had butter pecan with hot fudge and peanuts. I asked for no whipped cream or cherry but they put it on anyways. It was still really good. The ice cream is delicious. Others had chocolate, mint cookie and chocolate chip. Fun place to visit.
google avatar

Anthony M.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream! There's not much else to say about this place as it's a pretty straightforward ice cream shop. I like the pig motif and the retro look of it all. The portions are pretty good though the ice cream is a little expensive. Great selections including some neat combinations.i got the cow tipper! Yum! I highly recommended stopping by!
google avatar

Mitchel L.

Yelp
Visiting from out of state and awesome ice cream. Tasted unique and had an awesome texture! Shocked they had nitro on tap too so plus there! Will definitely return
google avatar

George W.

Yelp
My in laws took us to a place for dinner, and we finished it with a stop at Oinks. I wasn't sure what Oinks would be, but found out - it was impressive! The ice cream coolers run from end to end inside the restaurant, with a TON of good flavors. I had two scoops - one Raspberry Sorbet which was SO good, and another of ice cream with cherries - again, very tasty. Ordering is a bit chaotic, but it worked fine. The ice cream was very tasty. They have an interesting parking (porking) lot, where each space is adorned with a different pig name, and even a gift shop if you want some Oinks memorabilia. Talk about taking an ice cream shop to "11" as they would say in Spinal Tap. If you are in the area, I strongly recommend you stop and try this place out.
google avatar

Janelle D.

Yelp
Cute little shop that will satisfy any ice cream craving. We were looking for some dessert after finishing dinner in the area and this was the perfect spot for everyone in our group. They had four vegan options. I got the chocolate ice cream and the raspberry sorbet. The raspberry sorbet was a little looser for my liking but the chocolate ice cream was amazing. I will say it smelled a little weird inside, specially like an old freezer but that didn't affect how our ice cream tasted. Anyway, it's a cute little find and I'd recommend it if you're in the area.
google avatar

Mike B.

Yelp
Classic ice cream shop, with a really great array of staple flavors and more creative stuff. Nice space, a good amount of outdoor seating, and a decent-sized parking lot.
google avatar

Anni L.

Yelp
Considered Over priced ice cream for where I'm from! Not impressed with their customer service, rushed to get rid of me, considering I was the only customer in there! Oh Wells!

Carrie F.

Yelp
Love the number system when you go in, line moved fast. Flavor choices are immense, I recommend looking at the website before visiting if you're not familiar. Prices were slightly less than our local ice cream places, so pretty good value. But the crux of it.... The ice cream was great!
