Where to Eat Poke in Philly | Eater Philly

"With a beefed-up (although not entirely Hawaiian) selection of what most poke stores label “proteins” (i.e. meat and meat substitutes), Oishii’s options include eel, chicken, crab, and boiled shrimp, beyond the classic ahi tuna. They also do “poke burritos,” although they’re closer in form to a very large sushi roll." - Rachel Vigoda

Google
I recently dined at Oishii Poke and built my own poke bowl with spicy salmon, rice, and a variety of vegetables. The poke bowl was delicious, and they offered a wide selection of toppings. However, the portion sizes were a bit on the smaller side, so if you have a big appetite, you might not feel completely satisfied.

Google
Absolutely amazing. Very fresh, great value, incredible flavor. Will definitely return next time I’m in town!

Google
Small shop with a few tables and the team preparing our food was friendly. We chose to order take out. They have a good selection of mix ins and the sushi was fresh. I would recommend

Google
It’s a good choice for your lunch when you want something refreshing taste during Summer

Sarah Volz

Google
First time trying and it looks really good!! There are a lot of toppings / mix in options! The spicy salmon and tuna options are the mushed up fish though, so I stick to the normal tuna salmon because I like when the fish is simply cut up and not smashed together. The reg salmon was delicious and buttery, but the tuna was a bit dry and not my favorite

Rebecca Cooper

Google
Went here after making a return and was happy with the experience! I loved my sushi burrito and my husband enjoyed his too! I made mine custom and I was happily surprised how good it was. I like the drink options here too, and we had a good time listening to the Imagine Dragon music playing through the speakers. Definitely a refreshing meal after a hot walk that was much needed

Sarah Sutter

Google
The poke bowl ingredient options are perfect! My large size tuna, salmon, tofu bowl with eel sauce, and so many tasty additions was the perfect healthy option for dinner! The restaurant itself is tiny and sort of bare, with four tables and two at the window, but the take out traffic was non-stop! I guess those in the neighborhood know a good thing when they taste one. 😋 Delicious!

Google
We saw the sushi burrito sign from down the street and it pulled us in like a magnet. It was nice having a menu outside in the side if the building so we could check it out. We ended up getting two large burritos and two waters. Spent about $31 on it. We tried the #2, Oisbii Ahi, and the #7, Wasabi Shrimp and took half for each of us. We enjoyed both but the shrimp one was more our style.

Yelp
Grabbed a quick poke bowl and it was very good. The quantity is reasonable and the protein options were fresh. I liked the shrimp tempura which is an unusual option in my experience. Crab salad is not extra which is really nice. They don't have Wasabi which was a bit disappointing but other than that it hit the spot! You can also get a sushi burrito here but I went with the bowl.

Yelp
Stopped by at 8 pm on a Thursday night -- completely empty, but thats ok. This is like a poke bowl wrapped in sushi rice and seaweed. Choose your own ingredients, from Mango, corn, cucumber, wonton chips, etc. I had tuna, salmon and tempura shrimp as my large 3 item protein selections. Everything was fresh -- I chose the unagi and wasabi sauce as my add-ins, but felt it could have still used more overall flavor. Everything is beautifully presented, but a word of warning -- unlike a regular burrito where the tortilla wraps around the top and bottom, the seaweed paper doesn't provide full coverage, so if you complete unwrap the paper, things will fall out of the bottom!

Yelp
You can't go wrong by coming here! If you do, make sure you get the three meat option. That's the one me and my girl got and we were so happy with it. They really make those burritos FAT. Lol, it was low-key falling apart as we were eating it. I feel like the quality of their food is pretty good. You're gonna want to come back after trying your first burrito. The service is pretty solid. The people here make your burrito right in front of you, and they're pretty quick with it. Come check this place out!
google avatar

Yelp
I love this spot. It's lowkey, quiet and food is fresh. You can get a poke bowl, sushi burrito or a poke salad. I chose a sushi burrito with shrimp tempura and salmon, with cucumbers, red onion, carrots and cilantro, avocado (which was extra of course) BUT their crab and seaweed salad was not which was a great surprise for me. I also added fresh ponzu and got an aloe drink. The lady who took my order was so sweet as well! All in all, I paid like $18 excluding tip. I walked in here starving and now I feel satisfied. This is def on my list.

Yelp
FOOD My friend and I stopped by on a weekday afternoon for an early dinner. She ordered the Ebi Crunch, while I made my own bowl (white rice, salmon, seaweed salad, mango, cilantro, and lettuce with spicy mayo sauce). The bowls are well-portioned if you're not looking to take back any leftovers, but compared to other poké places in the area, the amount-to-price ratio leaves more to be desired. That being said, it's a solid poké place in the Chinatown area for a relatively reasonable price, but if you're okay with venturing elsewhere in Philly, I would look elsewhere for more bang for your buck. SERVICE The staff are very kind and accommodating, especially in regard to my peanut sensitivity! She made sure to use different utensils and gloves when preparing my bowl. AMBIANCE We ate inside the store. It was a bit humid inside, but otherwise nothing of note. PARKING Paid street parking is available at a limited capacity. However, due to the narrow streets, I would recommend parking in one of the nearby garages instead. ALLERGIES Peanuts are served as a topping here, so if you are highly sensitive, I would avoid frequenting here. However, if you only have a slight allergy, I just told the staff member about my allergy, and she made sure to isolate the ingredients accordingly.
google avatar

Linette S.

Yelp
Came here for a quick lunch break. While the food quality was okay, it was not worth the price. Also, the man standing behind the cash register was clipping his nails! I was both astounded and disgusted by this and didn't finish my food.

Yelp
This review is based in to go orders only (oh so many of them). This is my go-to poke place every single time I am in town. First, freshness of ingredients and generous portions. Second, location. Oishi Poke is in the heart of Philadelphia's Chinatown - literally across the gate, which conveniently is right beside the convention center where I am always at. It is now a thing I regularly do. I go out of work, walk to the gym and during my walk back to the hotel I pick up a poke bowl to go. As a matter of facts, I just did yesterday and it was delicious as always. They have many of pre made bowls, but I always like to do my own with: Brown rice, half naked tuna & half naked salmon, cucumbers, seaweed salad (no extra charge) crab salad (no extra charge), tobiko, green onions, rice puffs and some eel sauce. *Chef kiss Beautifully presented, even if it is a to go order. Really fresh, even if it's the last hour of the day that they are open and really friendly service. Always happy to go back!

Yelp
Assembly line setup with signature creations you can also choose from. I was a frequent customer the summer I took some classes near Chinatown. Quick friendly service with fresh ingredients. I'm highly indecisive and they were always patient with me as I ponder. Small space but there's some seating. Area is also very clean and tidy. Really can't think of any complaints. I like to get the Hawaiian Classic bowl! I personally prefer bowl over a burrito just because it's less messy!

Yelp
Visiting Philadelphia, I didn't expect to grab poke but came across Oishii. Being from somewhere with exceptional sushi, I definitely am spoiled. This place was pretty good and the fish were fresh. I think the other ingredients could feel a little more fresh. Poke is expensive and this is pretty good value for the money. The staff didn't seem like they wanted to serve me. It's a small cute little spot with a few tables for you to sit and eat. They won't give you water unless you buy a bottle.
google avatar

Alex T.

Yelp
excellent build your own pokebowl service! I really like the shrimp tempura and salmon. really recommend this little shop to anyone that's in the mood for sushi or poke.

Yelp
So we were just hanging out in Center City yesterday, and we wanted some thing freshen light. We found this place and we're so surprised how wonderful it was. The sign out front has a big arrow and it just says sushi burrito. So you don't necessarily have to look for the business name. The restaurant itself is impeccably cleaned. I made a custom sushi burrito, and got to pick my proteins and all the sauces and sides. It was a really wonderful, but if you're not creative, they have a whole list of predesigned sushi burritos for you to select from. You also can make it a ball, if you would rather not have the seaweed paper and rice. Highly recommend this place!!

Parisa H.

Yelp
Food was good and portions are pretty small..., service was a bit rude. Asked to sample a piece of fish before I bought my bowl and the person behind the counter gave me a dirty look, instead of saying no or that they don't allow that. Very off putting. Will not be coming back.
google avatar

Andres V.

Yelp
I stumbled upon this place while craving something fresh and flavorful, the spicy tuna and spicy salmon sushi burrito I ordered was pretty good. Each bite was a burst of vibrant flavors, and mixed with the taste of fresh fish, it was great but it felt a bit soggy and sort of made every bite fall apart. The combination of mango, pickled carrot, sweet chili sauce and onion crisp was a superior and flavorful combo. The portions were generous, ensuring that I left feeling satisfied. The staff were friendly and accommodating. This place is kinda small but there's a couple of tables still for eating in.
google avatar

Maria D.

Yelp
The inside is a bit small but the poke is good. You pick out all of your ingredients so you get the food right away.
google avatar

Shanda S.

Yelp
The current pricing is $12 for a small bowl (two proteins plus unlimited add ins) and $15 for a large bowl (three proteins). The proteins are salmon, tuna, spicy salmon, spicy tuna, imitation crab sticks, and (I believe) tofu. This spot isn't really a place to go to dine in, but if you want a poke bowl that you know will be made with fresh fish, this is the go-to. The teens working behind the counter are very nice.
google avatar

Sophea S.

Yelp
Everything here is fresh and so good. I like the spicy mayo sauce! They have many choices of poke bowls to choose from and reasonable prices. Staffs are friendly and helpful. Will definitely come back!
google avatar

Tiffany Z.

Yelp
It's about time I write this review... I come here at least ONCE A WEEK. what I get on the regular Create A Bowl- Reg Bowl -white rice -spicy salmon & spicy tuna -onions, corn, cilantro -spicy aioli sauce -crab salad, tobiko, sesame seeds, radish -onion crisps, lotus chips, seaweed flakes This combo is my absolute favorite! If you are ever craving poke then go try them out, they won't disappoint!!!!
google avatar

Erin C.

Yelp
Staff were very nice, but I paid $21 for 4 protein salad today, and for $3, the extra salmon was half of a scoop.
google avatar

Randy B.

Yelp
Been craving a sushi burrito for such a long time and this place was great! I got the large sushi burrito, with tuna/salmon/spicy tuna, along with various toppings. I was recommended the spicy aioli as the sauce. Overall, the burrito was good! They also have a large selection of toppings to add- my favorites being the seaweed salad and crab. My main critiques would be how the sauce provided most of the flavor throughout the burrito and how I would have appreciated the fish to shine through a bit more. I wish the burrito was a little bit bigger with more generous fish servings! Lastly, the seaweed wrap was a bit too soft/moist since it was hard to bite through and didn't mildly crunch. Will for sure come back to try their poke bowls!
google avatar

Jennifer N.

Yelp
Been coming to this place for lunch and/or dinner for about a couple of years now and it never disappoints! I noticed the large bowl gives you just a touch bit more of rice so I think the regular bowl is more worth its value. I always get the salmon and shrimp tempura. Only complaint though is that I noticed lately, they do not remove the shrimp shell before dipping in batter and frying it which makes it unpleasant to be eating a hard shrimp shell... the batter on the shrimp tempura is always crispy. The other added toppings are always fresh such as the seaweed salad, corn, cilantro, mango, edamame, cucumber, tobiko.
google avatar

John Michael S.

Yelp
It's always good and solid choice. Honestly my favorite quick poke bowls in the city. Good price and plenty of toppings.
google avatar

Veronica D.

Yelp
I really recommend this place. We took a large (12.95$) and a regular bowl (10.95$). You could choose a max of 2 (reg) or 3 (large) proteins and then added whatever you want! We'll be back soon!

Yelp
The sushi burrito is fantastic and you can you put whatever you'd like in it! The food is all fresh and well made with care and precision

Brett B.

Yelp
The sushi burrito was absolutely amazing. The staff was so nice and helpful. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area.
google avatar

Stephanie L.

Yelp
Ordered from Uber eats and was so pleasantly surprised! I did the build your own bowl and there's a great variety/ amount of toppings you can pick from! They also offer a sushi burrito option. Definitely super fresh and good sized portion. Can't wait to order from here again!
google avatar

William M.

Yelp
A sushi burrito should include at least one aspect of a burrito, like the tortilla. What they're peddling is just a large maki roll. I'm tired of this being called a sushi burrito when it has nothing in common with a Mexican burrito. Check out Bear Flag in California - THAT is a sushi / poke burrito.
google avatar

Evelyn C.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try a sushi burrito and this place had them. While in the area, I decided to give this place a try and I'd have to say, it did not disappoint. They have sushi burrito's on their menu but you can also create your own. Nice size burrito, delicious and you need to try it if you haven't already.
google avatar

Yelp
There were a few options for poke places to try out and I am so glad I went with this one. It was so fresh and had a nice presentation even though I ordered delivery. A lot of other places chop up their shrimp, I appreciate that they leave theirs whole. So good, will be back for sure.

Kate H.

Yelp
Oh my gosh, I loved my Poké bowl here! I got white rice with two proteins - shrimp tempura and salmon. The salmon was so fresh. I had a couple other toppings and found it to be just so comforting and delicious. Ambiance isn't amazing, but it's a small operation with fast service. Would definitely go again.
google avatar

Mike C.

Yelp
Sushi burrito. I had to try it! Pleasantly surprised. It was good. This place is kept clean with freindly staff. The sushi burrito was great. Also have a make your own bowl. The food was spectacular. Very good quality and taste.

Yelp
My obsession with Poke bowls continues this time in Philly! All my Poke experiences are reviewed on a scale against each other. I can honestly say that this place ranks in the top The portions are plentiful, the ingredients fresh and the prices are just right. Each standard Poke Bowl has a choice of two proteins (and they don't skimp on either). And there are a good number of add-ons to chose from (uncharge for Avocado). We ordered the Regular size bowl and the portion size was filling. The interior is clean and offers a few tables for a dine-in option. The service was quick and friendly. And, if you still have room after your Poke, you can go next door for some Ice Rolls. A neat concept, but a bit over priced in my opinion for ice cream. Note: Minimum $10 purchase required for Credit Card.

Yelp
I've been coming here ever since they opened and this place remains consistent, fresh, and delicious! I've basically been eating the same thing from being a freshmen in high school to a soon junior in college, and I'll never get tired of the food from here. No where compares to this spot as I've tried two others nearby and they weren't as fresh or flavorful. I used to get the burrito but now I enjoy the bowl or salad more but you can't go wrong with either. The bowl and salad are very filling and I always have leftovers from the big portions they give! The workers here are also always so sweet, especially the lady that I believe is the owner who's usually here. She recommended me some items in the past and they're my now favorite go to. Excuse the photo I always forget to take a picture before since I usually dig in immediately haha. My order -Bowl or salad -Salmon and shrimp tempura -Spicy aioli, eel, and/or ponzu sauce -Cucumber carrots mango avocado radish fish eggs crab meat corn radish cilantro scallions lotus root P.S. definitely try mango in your poke! Avocado is extra but definitely worth it since it's a lot and fresh! I'm definitely a heavy flavor person when it comes to food and I appreciate the workers for allowing me to do a mix of everything I want and multiple sauces.

Yelp
I've been coming to Oishii for 3 years now and it never disappoints. Their ingredients selection is great and ALWAYS fresh!
google avatar

Laura P.

Yelp
My go to takeout Poké,they got few tables if you feel like seating down and eat. Don't forget to empty the table before you go as it's self serving style. If you like tuna, sorry to disappoint you but other than that it's great! I would recommend bowl over burrito, let's go there and make your own bowl. My favorite is salmon and eel!

Stacy M.

Yelp
Stopped for a first visit while traveling for work in Philly. Affordable, healthy food! Definitely going back.

Yelp
Had a 6-hr layover in Philly yesterday so we decided to have a quick trip to downtown. We both ordered small diy bowl. Brown rice was warm and chewy. Sashimi was fresh. I love the selections of dressings and crunchy toppings. Price and portion were perfect. We left with a satisfied belly. Drop two stars because of the cashier. My mom does not read English so I had to translate everything on the menu. The cashier was staring at us indifferently all the time until another staff gave us a menu in Chinese! What's funnier was we overheard she spoke Chinese later! I was like if you do not want to speak Chinese with us, at least give us a Chinese menu, right?! Maybe I am wrong but I think she treats people differently. Not cool.
google avatar

Liza R.

Yelp
By far my favorite poke in Philly. The portions are a good size, and the fish quality is very supple. My bowl with tuna and salmon, plus a soda was around $15.
google avatar

Maria S.

Yelp
Fresh poke done as you like. The only downside was the wait- the orders were coming in non stop. Fish was fresh.
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite please to grab a poke bowl. It's like a sushi salad. They offer poke bowls and sushi burritos !! The best place to grab a quick bite

Yelp
Impression: I thought it was just Atlanta that was going through a Poke craze, but Philly has a few across town too. In downtown, Oishii is one of them. Prices were reasonable and you can make your own bowl from scratch which is what I like b/c sometimes a set menu can give you the pressure of trying a combination you may not be a fan of. Cutesy tip: they can take your polaroid and then hang it on a cute wall of other polaroids- I thought that was a fun thing they did that your group should totally try! Meats: You can choose from chicken, spicy tuna, salmon, or normal tuna. For rice you can choose fried rice or sushi rice. Toppings included masago, onions, peppers, corn, ice berg lettuce, radish, and some other goodies. Sauces: For sauce there is oyster /mushroom sauce, wasabi, ponzu sauce, and a few others. If you are going for something salty or more robust in flavor, then I recommend the ponzu or the mushroom/oyster. Wasabi gives you that nose tingling effect but not much other flavor. Price: For its 9.99$ price, it is not a bad proportional size. Service/Ambiance: It's a very quiet place for a place in Chinatown Philly- but we went at an earlier time so maybe it's that way but it seems quieter than most places here in CHinatown to me, so if you want a good quiet place this is it. It's a chill vibe- no fancy decorations but has a cute wall of polaroids. service was friendly and cheerful

Yelp
Oishii is the best Poke in the city. Nobody else compares. Oishii is ahead of the competition by miles.. nay... light years.
google avatar

Merin J.

Yelp
I walk by Oishii Poké every day after work and I regret that I waited so long to stop in and try it. I love sushi and I love burritos so I decided to do the Ebi Crunch burrito which has shrimp tempura, crabmeat, edamame, romaine lettuce, red onion, cucumber, white rice and spicy aioli all wrapped up in nori. It was absolutely delicious and the ingredients tasted fresh. I made a mess trying to take bites big enough to get the combination of all of the flavors together. Definitely worth trying the burrito once, but next time I'm going for a bowl. Overall I recommend Oishii Poké. It is a clean, handicap accessible establishment, with friendly staff and yummy fresh food.
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
Just popping in a little update to say: Oishii Poké is officially my favorite poke spot in Philly. This year, poké has become one of our go-to, healthy-enough takeout meals. We've tried and re-tried a handful of different spots around Philly, but Oishii tops them all. The bowls are always loaded and packed very nicely, and the ingredients are super fresh and flavorful. Last but definitely not least, our orders are accurate every time. Looking forward to continuing to support this great local biz this winter!

Yelp
Light, fresh, but not filling. I went for dinner with my friends; we ordered two build your own bowls and one sushi burrito. Mine was a salmon and tuna bowl with salad base. I really enjoyed the build you own bowl option as it allowed for customization. As for the food itself, I would probably give it four stars. The fish were not marinated in any sauce, so it was a little bland. The wasabi flavored sauces were very spicy - a little overpowering; I'd recommend the ponzu sauce. In addition, although the meal was clean and refreshing, it was definitely not enough. The portions are pretty small, and we ended up going to another restaurant right afterwards to eat a second meal.

Yelp
I've seriously been craving good Poke since I've moved back from the west coast, and Oishii really hits the spot! The regular bowl is pretty filling for me and sometimes I struggle to finish because the workers always pack my bowl. The salmon is always fresh and their shrimp tempura is always crispy. They have an assortment of toppings and for the price, you can't beat it!

Yelp
FINALLY!!! Hawaii has come to Philadelphia!! I had the great opportunity to live in Hawaii for a few years and to this day, the thing I miss most is the FOOD! Poke is my absolute favorite Hawaiian food, I spent many times on the beach with a pound of fresh poke and some chopsticks. Just the thought of poke brings me back to that amazing time in my life, it is so nostalgic for me. My best friend here in Philly I actually met almost 10 years ago when we both lived in Hawaii so we kept saying we gotta try one of these new poke places together. Finally made it to Oishii last night for a pit stop. Oishii had a great menu with lots of different options. Honestly though, it's more like a poke salad and there's nothing wrong with that. When I think poke, I think just cubed ahi tossed in seasonings and shoyu - boom, done. We were originally going to get the Hawaiian Classic until I read the menu and realized that was actually salmon lol so we got the Oishii Ahi instead. It was fantastic! The warm rice and the cold ahi worked so well together and all of the toppings made this bowl delicious! I would've like to have more ahi in it though :) We got the large portion and there were 3 of us going to town on it, it was the perfect snack to split before we went to actual dinner. My third friend had never had poke before and she loved it too! So overall it was a win for us :) They've got a great menu with some sushi burritos on it as well. I frequent Hai Street Kitchen so love the sushi burrito concept, I will have to give these a try at some point. Great spot here, so glad to have finally nomed on some delicious poke I've missed all these years!

Yelp
Awesome poké! I ordered delivery from Oishii Poké through Grubhub, and was very pleased with my bowl! I've never actually been to the restaurant, so I can't comment on that, but the food is great! I decided to make my own large bowl. First you choose a base, and I went with brown rice. Then they let you choose what you want your three scoops of protein to be, and I went with two salmon and one spicy tuna. You then have the option to choose an unlimited amount of toppings for the same set price! I got the seaweed salad, edamame, avocado (+$1.50), onion, roe, lotus chips, lettuce and cucumber. My sauce of choice was the spicy aioli. The total for the bowl came to be around $13, but it was plenty of food. The salmon and tuna were very fresh, although next time I will likely go with the regular tuna instead of spicy tuna since this comes very finely chopped. Everything else in the bowl was also delicious. Oishii is a great poké option and I will be back for more!

Yelp
I had my first Poke Bowl, and it was just okay. I'm not into raw seafood, so the girl behind the counter recommended some cooked items. I tried the yummy crabby thinking it would be real crab. However, when i saw the cold imitation crab sticks on their set up counter. I knew, I wasn't getting real crab meat plus this establishment does not have ice for their beverages. A total bummer. The flavors were good though, and I like the aioli sauce.

Yelp
I've been on the lookout for a good poke spot ever since my favorite closed (RIP Poke Bowl). I treated myself to a Hawaii salmon bowl on a sunny Saturday. I got a regular and it was a generous serving. I liked that I was still able to let the person making my order what stuff I didn't want (skip red onions and tobiko) although it was slightly annoying I couldn't substitute seaweed salad for my tobiko and had to pay extra for it. All of the ingredients were really fresh and the salmon was soft. The seasoning was a bit bland, I would have liked more salt but it's better than being too salty. I'm impressed and will definitely come back when I'm around the area.
