5 Hot Orange County Dishes to Try Right Now | Eater LA

"At Ojai Burger in Old Towne Orange, an offshoot of Yume Japanese Burger Cafe, the menu highlights thick wagyu-style patties and fried-egg-topped options, but my insider pick is the Ojai chicken sandwich: a well-layered karaage fried chicken thigh with crunchy shredded cabbage and black pepper–speckled Kewpie mayo tucked into a brioche bun." - Jenn Tanaka

Japanese Burger Spot Brings Slathered Wagyu Beef Patties and Karaage Sandwiches to OC | Eater LA

"The fast-casual spot at 238 W. Chapman Avenue opened in Old Towne Orange two weeks ago, taking over the space previously occupied by Buttermilk Chicken and serving a blend of American classics and Japanese flavors. The menu is a pared-down evolution of the Ozakis’ original concept, focused on high-quality ingredients: marinated wagyu beef patties, karaage-style fried chicken thighs, and an Impossible patty option for meatless diners, all served on fresh brioche with signature sauces, shredded lettuce, Kewpie mayo and sometimes a fried egg. Snacks and sides include fully loaded fries (topped similarly to the sandwiches), takoyaki and croquettes, while creamy shakes in cookies-and-cream, berries, matcha and ube — with matcha and ube also featured in chewy mochi waffles — round out the desserts. Backed by a group of friends and business partners who spotted a gap for Asian-influenced burgers, the restaurant shares a people-watching patio with adjacent Wahoo’s Fish Tacos, is within walking distance of the nearby multi-deck free parking structure, and is open Sunday–Thursday 11 a.m.–9 p.m. and Friday–Saturday 11 a.m.–10 p.m." - Anne Marie Panoringan

Google
We visited Ojai Burger randomly on Halloween night, mainly because of their sign for the Pumpkin Spice Shake. They didn’t have it listed in the menu when we ordered, but the staff kindly suggested getting the vanilla shake and said they would adjust it for us. We tried the Topa Topa Wagyu Fries, Spicy Miso Fries, and the Double Wagyu Smash Burger. Surprisingly, the shake was our favorite, balanced sweetness and a noticeable pumpkin-spice flavor. The fries tasted very sauce-forward, much heavier on toppings than shown in the menu photos, so the potato flavor was a bit lost. Overall, the food quality and flavors felt average for us. The cashier was warm and friendly. We sat outside, and although they said they would bring the order when it was ready, it sat on the counter for a bit before someone eventually brought it out to us. The atmosphere was nice, cozy indoor seating plus a few cute outdoor corners with a good vibe. It’s a comfortable spot.

Google
Two Stars for Trying Real Hard Look, I really wanted to love Ojai Burger. The staff? Absolute angels. They greeted me like I was a long-lost relative returning from war, handed me a menu with genuine enthusiasm, and checked on me more times than my mom does when I’m sick. That smile-filled service is the ONLY reason this isn’t a one-star situation. But that burger… oh, that burger. I’ve had cafeteria food with more personality. The patty had the texture of something that gave up on life about halfway through cooking, and the seasoning strategy appeared to be “thoughts and prayers.” The bun was doing its best impression of cardboard, and even the lettuce looked sad to be there. I wanted to love it. The staff deserved for me to love it. They were so nice that I almost convinced myself it tasted good. Almost. Second star is purely for the service team who clearly have no idea what’s happening in that kitchen, because their enthusiasm does NOT match the product. They deserve better. We all do.

Google
Great burger place in the circle in Orange. The server was friendly and helpful. We had the Chief Peak burger, spicy miso waygu fries and an Ube shake (all were delicious). We ate outside on the patio ( there was plenty of seating). We will definitely be back.

Google
This IS #1. We went first time last Monday, had the katsu hotdog and the double smash burger, so so good we had to come back again today Wednesday. Today we tried the Ojai chicken sandwich, the wagyu spicy miso fries and another katsu dog. So: katsu hotdog off the hook, it's gonna become a thing for sure but this is the original one. Smash burger incredible just don't eat it after a katsu dog or it'll taste kinda blend, the katsu sauce is sweet and overpowering to the palate. BEST chicken sandwich periot! (we're fans of Dave's, not anymore). Wagyu fries incredible too, the meat is so tender and tasty and doesn't bother at all they're bagged fries. Extra points for customer service: they told us they were out of katsu dogs :'( but since they were actually just out of hotdog buns they offered a regular bun and came out just as good. Overall: friendly, nice, fast service and so freaking good. We've decided to become regulars, there's no other choice.

Google
Express my extreme disappointment and frustration with my recent experience at Ojai Burger. This marks the second consecutive time I have received an unacceptable order. On this occasion, both burgers I ordered were delivered burnt—clearly overcooked and unfit to serve. Additionally, my specific request for sauce on the side was entirely ignored, despite the fact that I included it in my order instructions and even reiterated it through the DoorDash driver, who confirmed she relayed it to your staff. To make matters worse, I had requested and paid for one of the burgers to come without cheese. This instruction was disregarded, and instead, I was given two identical burgers with none of my directions followed. The result was not only inaccurate but also careless. This pattern of negligence demonstrates a serious lack of quality control, attention to detail, and respect for paying customers. Twice in a row, Ojai Burger has failed to provide even a satisfactory meal. I expect better from a restaurant that positions itself as a quality establishment. At a minimum, I would like acknowledgment of this repeated issue and assurance that steps will be taken to prevent such careless mistakes in the future. Customers should not have to beg for accuracy and quality in something as basic as a burger order.

Google
I used to come here regularly, have had many items on the menu, and everything was always delicious. I don't know if there was an owner change or kitchen staff change, but the dinner we just had was very disappointing. The wagyu was tough and dry, the rice was not cooked through, edamame is cooked to mush. The chicken used to have a nice tasty batter that was thin and flaky when fried (Japanese karaage), but tonight it was just a thick layer of flavorless batter, and over-fried. You can clearly see the difference of the food compared to the large posters on the wall. The staff was very nice but it would take a lot for me to come again when the food has changed so much for the worse.

Google
The burgers were good. The staff were great. Location is great. Seems to be struggling a bit. Supposed to be a burger and brews place. Has beer paraphernalia everywhere but they said they were out of beer?! We also had a gift card but they couldn't figure out how to get it to work. I was really hoping for something special. Just missed the mark.

Google
I ordered two teriyaki Bowls via Door Dash. It was bad, the chicken trasted and chewed like it was boiled instead of grilled. The rice was mushy like grits or oatmeal and really flavorless. I’ve been here before and the food was never this bad. I would not pay $5 for the food you served. I have to wonder, did the prep mess up? Did your cook quit? What happened? Beware of coming this place for a Teriyaki bowl. Never again. I ate the chicken just because I was really hungry.

Yelp
Oh man... This might be the best burger I've ever had. The katsu sauce is unbelievable. I had never heard of red garlic before here but those red garlic fries are delicious. Staff is always friendly and willing to bring the food out to the patio. I need to go here more often to try things besides burgers and fries. Nothing has let me down here.

Yelp
I came here with a couple of friends for dinner. Ordering was easy and there was a lot of seating available in the outside patio. I ordered their Topa Topa Burger, Okonami fries and a Dr Pepper to drink. We sat outside on the patio since it was a nice evening at the time. All our food came out pretty quickly and around the same time as we had ordered one after the other. My burger was delicious! All their burgers here are made from wagyu meat. Mine came with sliced avocado (pretty much half of an avocado) which was ripe, smooth and creamy. It also came with crunchy onion strings and their special Topa Topa sauce and of course some kewpie mayo and shredded cabbage. The cabbage was super crunchy and fresh. The buns were super soft and toasted perfectly. The fries were alright. The Okonamiyaki style was unique and the toppings were tasty. My Dr Pepper was a little too sweet, maybe it was more syrup than carbonated water. Overall the burgers here were great! I also got an order for my boyfriend later that night. Ordering to go was super easy. My boyfriend devoured his Spicy Miso burger. Service here was great as well. Would come back for the burgers!

Yelp
Oaji Burger is that low-key bomb hiding in plain sight Smack in the heart of Old Towne Orange, this tiny, quaint spot is a straight-up flavor factory. No dedicated lot, but between the street parking and the nearby structure, it's an easy win. It's a quick, casual setup with limited seating inside plus shared patio space next door, but the service makes the experience shine. The cashier was friendly, knowledgeable, and super helpful for our first visit, walking us through the menu like a pro. Let's talk about the star: Wagyu beef burgers done RIGHT. The Topa Topa burger was next-level, that garlic Dijon sauce mixed with Japanese mayo is dangerously good. The Chief Peak was solid, but just didn't quite hit the same highs for me. And the fries? Oaji understood the assignment. They have a whole lineup of loaded options, but the Shake Shake fries with garlic truffle completely stole the show. Crispy, bold, and wildly addictive. Bonus: they also offer salads, chicken sandwiches, and rice bowls if you're trying to be "balanced." Oaji is officially on my repeat list ! Too many burger and fry combinations here to ignore. If you're in Old Towne and even thinking about a burger, this is the move.

Yelp
Crispy Chicken Bites ($11): 2/5. A little off-putting...had many strangely textured, oddly shaped pieces of battered, deep fried chicken that tasted dry and overcooked. Sadly wasn't juicy at all, and batter/coating was way too thick. The cabbage salad and spiced mayo sauce it came with tasted better than the chicken, so I wouldn't get this again. Fries ($6): 4/5. Long, skinny, crispy shoestring that were dangerously easy to eat - these went fast. Berries Shake ($7): 5/5. Super yummy. I don't normally go for fruity milkshakes, but this was very enjoyable, tasted like real berries blended into creamy vanilla ice cream. Made me want to try their other shakes. Small, fast-casual shop with chill vibes and aloof staff. Ojai is situated in Old Towne Orange, so you can park in the brick parking structure for free and explore the area.

Yelp
I stand by my original review--if Yelp allowed negative ratings, I would confidently give this establishment -100 stars. Since posting my genuine feedback, I have been repeatedly contacted and harassed by an individual whom I believe to be the owner. The messages I have received include derogatory language, hostile name-calling, and behavior that is entirely inappropriate toward any customer. The conduct displayed in these messages is alarming and raises serious concerns about the professionalism and emotional stability of the person managing this business. I have no idea who he is referring to in his explicit messages, as none of it relates to my initial review. Ask yourself: would you feel comfortable dining at a place where the owner engages with customers this way? (See attached screenshot.) Please consider this before giving your money to an establishment that not only serves mediocre food but is represented by someone who continues to harass former customers months later instead of addressing feedback constructively and professionally.

Yelp
I love this spot in Orange. The location itself is prime because everything is walking distance and just so cute. We walked by and saw that they had wagyu burgers so of course we had to check it out. there's inside seating and a small area outside as well. the 2 guys working the front were very knowledgeable on the items and we ordered a few burgers, fries & got the seasonal pumpkin pie shake (so good) The ojai burger was very flavorful, very food. The topa topa was LOADED AND stacked and the teriyaki burger had a nice touch of sweetness. I loved that it comes with a side pickle. The wagyu fries were AMAZING. cannot wait to be back.

Yelp
I was curious about Ojai Burger after eating at the Taco Stand next door so I finally got around to coming here for the first time earlier this week. Ordered the Ojai Smash Burger with the Garlic Parmesan Shake Shake fries. The burger was pretty tasty but the fries were a bit too dry and bland in my opinion. But seeing that I came here primarily to try their smash burger, I would say that I came out satisfied overall. The girl who rung me up was very friendly & welcoming which made the experience a positive one. I would definitely come back to try the other items on the menu seeing that the smash burger was up to par.

Yelp
We were in the mood for a snack while wandering around the downtown area and came across the sign for a $7.95 Wagyu smash burger so we'd thought we give it a try. The girl at the counter was friendly and helpful and we ordered up our smash burger and took a seat inside (there's a lot of seating outside on a large shared patio) We could hear the meat hit the grill and it was served up a few moments later fresh and piping hot. The burger was seasoned well and had some grilled onions and a nice sauce. It was a perfect little snack for us to split, but if you want something larger they have a numerous selection of specialty burgers, sandwiches and bowls.

Yelp
4.5s.... Definitely really good burger amd frys...4.5 stars is pretty much perfect in my opinion. A little bit pricey , but that's pretty much everywhere $22 for a realy good Wagu burger and frys It's pretty much standard for any high end amber. The cook and clerk were very helpful and friendly.I would definitely give it a try
google avatar

Yelp
Honestly their burger was mid, their chicken sandwich was horrible, the chicken was smaller than the bun and so chewy it was inedible. I would rather just get in n out TBH...
google avatar

Yelp
the wagyu fries were my favorite, hands down. flavor explosion. pretty small store but there's outside seating. they have happy hour & alcohol burgers were decent, flavor was there, size was good service was cool

Yelp
JAPANESE BURGERS Awesome location near the circle of orange. Not cheap but probably cheaper than a restaurant. Japanese style burgers with sweet sauces. Everything is sold separate. Got the beef bowl, the burger with the egg in it, don't remember the name, and the parm truffle fries. After finishing my food, I was glad I tried it but I probably won't order it again based on how dry the protein was. I guess I was expecting more for the price but i guess location is everything and they got bills to pay. Just feels like I ate a burger at waba grill. But at least it looks great! Interior is very tiny. Very suiting for Japanese style food. Overall, not to

Yelp
Got the shake shake fries, a smash burger, a soda, and a milkshake - $32. For fast casual that's a bit much, even in this economy. The milkshake was somehow salty. And not a little bit like a good offset to the sweet of the ice cream, nor was it a flavor where it was expected like a salted caramel. I thought something was wrong, like they had spilled something into the container or someone mistook salt for sugar when making the ice cream, that's how salty it was. The burger was decent. Meat was good quality. Bun was delicious. The fries were okay. A little over cooked and they don't have ranch or ketchup in a bottle. You have to open tiny little packets of ketchup and these are the kinds of fries that soak up the ketchup. After 4 or 5 fries the level of grease on them was getting to me. As soon as I left my stomach started to hurt. Over all it wasn't bad, but it wasn't good. And it was definitely over priced. Won't be going back.

Yelp
Came here on Halloween night 2025!! Wow this restaurant was busier than the weekend of the food fair!!! Must be all the parents who deserved a break after rush hour traffic then rushing to get here for the littles to trick or treat!!! Thanks Orange for always hosting events for all the families!! Came here to get some yummy smash burgers!! Jordan was awesome!! The restaurant was super busy and he was still very on top of his game and super courteous!! There was so many orders ahead and he made sure we were satisfied with our food!! Which we were!! Thanks Jordan it was a good meal and superb service!!!

Betty R.

Yelp
Today we picked up food for the family. The burgers were good but I also ordered topa wagyu fries, and I'm not happy at all. They put too much Japanese mayo and not enough meat for the price. Very disappointed.
google avatar

Brok B.

Yelp
Unfortunately it is clear that something has changed in the quality of the food prepared. The service and ambiance are decent and similar to before, but that's about it. I'm pretty disappointed because I used to recommend Ojai Burger as having one of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had; now it's just an average one. I now doubt that this is a fluke, because I've come here at least four different times to confirm the food quality. The last straw was when I ordered an Oreo shake that was half blended, watery, and with stale Pocky. I can no longer recommend eating here.

Yelp
We had a Delicious burgers. Suggested was the name of the place "The OJai Burger"! Was a little salty, but the egg balanced it out. I thought the fries were good. The burger was absolutely delicious. Service was fast and the place is in old town Orange, walking distance from the Antique Circle. The location has a really cool vibe to it.

Mike C.

Yelp
This place was really good when it first opened. Not sure if it is under new ownership or something because the last time we went it was a bad experience. Ordered the ojai burger, chicken Katsu salad, fries and the teriyaki chicken bowl. Burger, fries and salad took forever to come out and were not the same quality as they used to be. The burger patty in particular was dry and doused in sauce to cover the dryness. The chicken in the salad was mostly breading. The chicken teriyaki bowl took another 10 minutes or so to come out and when it did the rice was under cooked and the sparse serving of chicken was dry and rubbery. Bummed that this spot took a down turn because it used to be solid.
google avatar

John O.

Yelp
I am so loving this place. It is not just burgers. That's what keeps me coming back. Every time I visit there are more things to try. I think anyone could find something to enjoy here. I have often gone for the rice bowls including loco moco. Today I had the Menchi Katsu burger. They accidentally added a fried egg. Asked me if that was ok. No problem!! Just made it a bigger sloppier burger. My wife went with the demure smash burger. It is the most basic straightforward burger then have. So many other things I want to try including the katsu dog. Oh well, next time. They also have a solid draft beer program with stuff you don't see other places in the area.

Yelp
This place is the SPOT! I love fusion restaurants so I was delighted when I took a look at their menu. I haven't been great with writing reviews so just FYI this is my review from my visits in May and July of this year. First: the service was awesome. In May, a server named Fern was very patient with me and gave me some great recommendations to help me decide what I should get. Unfortunately, there was a little misunderstanding, but it was probably an honest mistake. I ordered the wagyu bowl and got the katsu bowl. They sound similar, so I understand the mix up. I should have asked her to repeat the order to me. Next time! In July, I REALLY wanted to try their carrot cake, but I wasn't able to order it through the app, so I ordered the Giant Chocolate Cake Slice and asked them to give me carrot cake if possible. I was overjoyed to discover upon delivery that they not only were they able to accommodate my request, but they gave me an extra treat (a blondie) to make up for the price difference! How sweet! The carrot cake also did not disappoint. It was SO GOOD. What we've tried: Chicken Katsu Salad - very good, a little on the salty side. I'd like to try to karaage salad next and compare them. Wagyu Fries - SO GOOD. Highly recommend. Carrot cake - BOMB. Chicken Katsu Bowl - very good, a little on the salty side. We ordered the wagyu beef bowl and got this, so I'd still like to try the wagyu bowl. Topa Topa Chicken Sandwich - very good and filling Ube Shake - good, a bit on the sugary side. It's not designed to travel well(the pocky fell all the way in the drink), I was expecting them to put the pocky on the side or something, but I understand it's my fault ordering delivery Buttery Lemon squares - AMAZING. I'm a lemon square snob and these were almost as good as my grandmas. Toffee Crunch Blondie - good if you like big chocolate chips. It's much better warm. Overall, I would absolutely go back, and I very much look forward to it.

Yelp
I've been coming here for a long time, and I was recently told by one of the employees that the ownership changed hands. Let me say that they absolutely killed the business. The burgers are nowhere near the same quality. They are obviously frozen patties. The buns are of similarly decreased quality, and so is every other part of what used to be my favorite burger in the orange circle. The workers are visibly discouraged. They don't want to be here, and neither do the customers. It's a sad tale as old as time. They sold, and the new owners came in and tanked it. Hopefully this place closes soon, because there's no point in it staying open its current state. I will mourn this restaurant, truly. Rest in peace.
google avatar

Jenn G.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem! The burgers are absolutely delicious--especially the Miso Burger, which was unique and packed with flavor. The Smash Burger was perfectly crispy and melted at the same time. The buns were really soft and fluffy too. You can tell they care about quality ingredients without overcharging; the food is high quality and a great value. They have a great selection of craft beers, and the outdoor seating area is spacious, inviting, and dog-friendly. Perfect spot to hang out with friends (and pups) while enjoying top-notch burgers and a cold beer. Highly recommend! (You order at the counter and the food comes out, so not much to say about the service.)
google avatar

Tommy L.

Yelp
This one's all about simplicity done right. A soft, buttery brioche bun hugs a juicy wagyu patty, melty cheddar cheese, and a generous pile of caramelized onions that bring that perfect sweet-and-savory punch. There's a little bit of sauce smeared under the patty that gives it just enough tang without overpowering anything. The burger's got that smashed, crispy edge going on too, and it works magic with the creamy cheese. The pickle on the side is thick-cut and crisp--super refreshing between bites. No lettuce, tomato, or extras, just that deep, beefy flavor front and center. perfect!

Yelp
We liked the spicy chicken sandwich and it came out fast They cut in half and we shared But it was undercooked so I dinged a star We love Orange for thrift shopping and visiting Hilbert museum
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent price for the food they offer! Plenty of seating, both benches inside and out. The service staff was friendly too. The smash burger and their loco moco was the right amount of meat, and the one shake was a delight.

Yelp
Ojai burger was a neat spot to try out some fusion food, The restaurant has pretty limited seating and I thought we could sit on the patio but wahoos has a sign that says it's only for wahoos. You may end up sharing a table with some others pending your party size. It's a nice little spot otherwise. The service was great they are great with getting orders in and out and with suggestions. I had a to go order along with my dine in and the server held off on making the Togo order until we were closer to being done with our meal so I really appreciated that. The food was good but not mind blowing, mind you I got the katsu sandwich and I think it's their wagyu beef that is the star. The sandwich was good with some good flavors. The fries were new for me since I had never had a miso spice so I enjoyed those. Overall Ojai did its job with proving good food with great service. I'll definitely try a burger next time and see if that changes hits higher notes for me but for the most part I did enjoy my meal.

Jaeden Y.

Yelp
I had my friend try this place and she loved it! Super friendly service like usual. Our cashier gave us lots of good recommendations! We got the spicy red garlic fries which were the perfect crispiness and savory flavor to go with the burgers. Our cashier also gave us a side of their garlic dijon aioli to try. It wasn't needed but def added to the flavor of the fries! 5/5 My friend got the spicy miso burger and she really enjoyed it too! She loves spicy foods and has a high spice tolerance, and she did wish it was more spicy. But she still really loved it and would def come back! I've been here 3 times already and have always had such great experiences. From the food to the service to the vibe, you honestly can't go wrong eating here!

Yelp
First impression, I was very excited about the unique menu and I was very happy to find how much I enjoyed my visit. The Ojai wavy burger was delicious. We also got the wagu fries which were our favorite thing we got! Very impressed! The only downside was the wagu rice bowl. Compared to the rest of the meal, that was less flavorful and exciting. Good portions for everything and lots of fun and unique menu items. The seating was great as well, plenty of space in the location and the service was efficient and pleasant. Definitely planning on returning to Ojai Burger.

no.

Yelp
TLDR: new owner, changed recipes (in my opinion, not as good), not the same, customer service is still really good I've been coming here every once in a while when I'm in the area for four years. My family and I have always enjoyed the ojai burger, ojai chicken sandwich, and wagyu fries. When I received my chicken sandwich it was extremely off looking. I wanted to resolve it and short story that's how all the chicken sandwiches are now, and switched to wagyu fries (they also changed the recipe for that but still good) New signage updating customers that their recipes have change would be nice and removing false outdated advertising of the food. Review is mainly bc of lack of transparency with customers of changes. Edit: I should've checked the reviews bfor hand, I didn't think I would have to bc it used to be so good. Others agree with me.

Yelp
The Sign in front had me at wagyu lol. Pretty small location inside. It was decently busy not much of a line. I got the wagyu rice bowl in all honestly just my opinion I thought it was okay lol. The bowl reminded me of a fancier yoshinoya. The fries were my favorite they were crispy and fresh the taste was good balance. The burger sorry I don't remember which one it was it was okay too for what it is. Had alot of cabbage. Overall the cashier and everyone was very nice and helpful.

Yelp
Parking: Parking can be difficult on the weekends. You can get lucky with free street parking. I always park in the free parking structure on Lemon St. Ambiance/Environment: This spot is located in the Orange Circle, next to Snooze. The indoor is small with limited seating, but they have a good amount of outdoor seating. Service: The cashier was nice, and the cooks were efficient. Throughput was a little over 15 minutes. What we ordered: 1) Ojai Burger - wagyu with Katsu sauce and fried egg. It looks small, but it's fulfilling! The wagyu was cooked too well for my liking. Though, it was still flavorful and juicy. 2) Terriyaki Chicken Rice Bowl - The bowl was also small, but they were generous with the chicken. There was a good amount of rice and shredded cabbage. The Terriyaki chicken was cooked well, and the Terriyaki sauce definitely came through. 3) Okonomi Fries - Okonomi sauce, Japanese mayo, furikake, and bonito flakes. The fries were crispy and cooked well! Their fries are shareable between two persons. I really enjoyed this, but I'd prefer a bit more sauce. Pricing: Prices are $$. It's a decent price for the amount received. I'd definitely come back to try their other burgers and fries.

Yelp
Stellar burgers with great flavors and textures. The fluffy brioche bun, crispy fried egg, crunchy sliced lettuce and the firm but tender beef patty creates the complex texture profile, while the katsu sauce in the beef, butter in the brioche bun and egg yolk creates the flavor profile. Everything was executed perfectly - the egg yolk was cooked so that it didn't get too runny, and the bun didn't get so drenched from all the juices that it held everything together well. The basic fries are perfectly crispy. We also got the spicy miso fries, and the best part was that it wasn't drenched in sauce to a point the fries were soggy. I could still taste their crispy texture as well as the spicy kick from the sauce and the tender meat chunks.

Yelp
Ojai Wagyu Burger is FIRE. We were actually here yesterday for lunch. Burgers are expensive here, but pretty big too. Love the taste with the Sunnyside Up egg inside. Real delicious and fulfilling. Service is good here too. Cant wait to try them again.

Yelp
Katsu Dog 4-4.5 stars Smash Burger 2.5-3 stars After circling around and around Old Towne Orange, on a Friday around noon, we were able find a parking spot right in front of Ojai Burger. (I've never noticed Ojai Burger before, but upon checking, it seems that this location has been open since 2022.) We were originally in the area for Urth Caffe and since we had time before our pick up order was available, we were intrigued by the sign out front of Ojai Burger, that we ended up ordering 2 items from the sign. Katsu Dog $8.95 Crispy fried katsu hot dog, sauteed onions, Japanese mayo & katsu sauce. Single Smash Burger $6.95 Garlic dijon aioli, sauteed onions, cheese, served on a brioche bun. We were both pleasantly surprised with the flavors of the Katsu Dog. At first, I was skeptical for a hot dog about $9 but all the ingredients came together really well. There was a subtle crunch with each bit, due to the crispy fried katsu. The sauteed onions were excellent. The Katsu Dog was our favorite between the two. The Single Smash Burger left much to be desired. The patty was smashed (thus Smash Burger) ,obviously, but way too thinly that it was basically burnt, like black burnt, on both sides (top and bottom) and on the edges. Like are we eating charcoal? Pass on the Smash Burger. A pickle slice was included with both items, and it was fresh! The perfect amount of crisp with each bite and not overly sour. A perfect addition to both items, so the items would not be dry. When we entered, there were a occupied tables, and the restaurant stayed moderately busy as customers came and went while we enjoyed our meal inside. There were 2 TVs and 1 restroom. FYI, that toilet is slooowww... and even following the directions on the wall, one needs to flush 2 times and wait for it to "fill" after the first flush. Nothing like history with buildings in Old Towne Orange. Fusion food. Good service. One orders and pays at the register, and you'll be provided a number for your order. Once your order is ready, they will bring your order to you. There are also water and cups on the side for their customers, along with utensils and napkins.

Yelp
Smash burger was good albeit a bit basic. Wished they had bigger patties and more toppings. Loved the toasted buns. Definitely recommend getting a double on the smash burgers, the single is on the small side. Spicy miso wagyu fries are big enough to share. Loved the meat used, but sauce was a bit too sweet for me. It wasn't busy around 4pm on a Saturday. Will probably come back but will order different items.

Yelp
Very friendly and prompt service. The restaurant is clean with plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. I tried the Chief Peak and recommend it. The Wagyu fries are very tasty. I'll be back!

Yelp
Excellent service. Pleasant seating area. The Katsu Dog was really good and very big. The Okinomi Fries were good...nice flavor but the fries were a bit dry. Smash Burger was average. Not much flavor in the meat. No sauce was added or offered. Very good beer selection, but non-alcholic drinks were sparse. A few tweaks and I think Ojai Burger could rise from good to great

Yelp
Had a good day at the convention center. Decided to treat myself to a burger and fries. I don't mean Burger King lol. I want a burger and fries that are hand crafted with love. This is the place. I got the Topa Topa Burger with Shake-Shake fries with truffle garlic. Burger was very flavorful and the crispy onions was the cherry on top (cooked to perfection) Fries with truffle garlic!!! What else needs to be said. Please do yourself a favor, get there and treat yourself. You will not regret it.

Yelp
Saw the sign outside The restaurant of the ojai smash burger. The photo was for the double patty so I decided to get the single thinking the double would be too huge. Well, the single patty didn't look like a smash burger at all. It wasn't really "smashed" nor did it fill out the bun. This is the equivalent of a hamburger. It wasn't the best smash burger I've had but you may want to try it for yourself. The katsu chicken salad was pretty good. Lots of chicken with that light crunch and the salad greens were fresh. Would definitely order this again. The staff was helpful and the restaurant is clean. Parking on the street or parking structure is free up the street.

Yelp
I've here a few times and I've been pretty satisfied with the food. Their Wagyu Burgers is top notch and it's a must for those trying this for the first time. I've tried other burgers from the menu and none of them hit quite as nicely as the Wagyu. I had the Topa Topa Fries with the Spicy Ojai Chicken Sandwich and it was filling. Service has always been pretty solid and I've never had an issue with seating. Both indoor and outdoor seating is available so I was able to bring my dog. My dog Skippy has always been telling me he wanted to try Ojai but I kept having to remind him it's not for dogs. But I brought him to the patio as a compromise so he could smell the food. Overall, the variety of Ojai's burgers and sandwiches welcomes anybody of varying tastebuds. Recommended.

Yelp
I used to come here often and it was my favorite burger place. Quality has dropped from a 10 to a 2. Never got sad over a food place but this is so disappointing. Give ownership back to the previous owner or this place is not going to succeed

Yelp
We LOVE Ojai Burger. My boyfriend doesn't generally choose to get burgers for dinner often, but he consistently asks for Ojai Burger. The sauces are delicious on the burger. We also love the Ube Shake and always try to share one as a sweet treat.

Yelp
This is a fantastic, casual burger joint that remixes American classics with a Japanese flare. The Ojai Wagyu Burger has a THICK, juicy, and tender patty! I'm obsessed with the spicy miso sauce on the fries. The Topa Topa Chicken Sandwich boasts a hilariously huge slab of karaage chicken. The cashier was unfriendly, but she at least answered our questions. Parking and limited seating might make your visit a little challenging, but the food is worthwhile. I'd come back for their Ojai Wagyu Burger and anything with that Spicy Miso sauce!

Yelp
I'm a bit surprised by how many good reviews there are for this place. Maybe we just got the wrong item or it was an off day. Anyway, my wife and I shared a Chief Peak Burger and some fries. The Chief Peak Burger tasted a bit burnt and I didn't find it very good at all. The fries were okay, but just regular fries that you can pretty much get anywhere. For this burger and fries to be well over $20, I expected it to taste much better. I'd much rather eat someplace like Lazy Dog which is much cheaper and taste way better, or if you can, someplace like The Stand which is located all over the place as well. For the price, this place was pretty bad and we definitely won't go again. At least service was good.

Yelp
The staff is the reason this review was bumped up a star. The gentleman at the register was so patient with us as it was our first time. We ordered ALOT of food. He made excellent recommendations and was so cheerful and friendly. The shake shake fries are very well seasoned and probably my favorite part of the meal besides the tangerine beer. The wagyu burger patty is very flavorful. So was the juicy dark meat chicken for the chicken sandwich. Other than that, the loco moco is depressing and definitely not a real loco moco. The portions are really small for the price you pay. I would not go back solely for that reason. It's just okay but not worth the price. It looks way better than it tastes. The staff is the most redeeming quality of this experience.

Yelp
I got the wagyu bowl. Good amount of meat. It was lacking flavor. Meat was a bit overcooked. Service was good and quick.

Yelp
Went in today for the second time after a couple weeks, ordered some spicy miso waygu fries, and a berries shake, and the food WOW, beyond amazing again! Flavorful, And the customer service outstanding, The cashier Jordan as I remember, helped me out today and his customer service was like no other. Made conversation with me, and was so polite. Will definitely be one of my dinner spots!

Yelp
This isn't just a sandwich. This... is chemistry. The culmination of precise reactions--the Maillard browning on that chicken, the emulsion of spicy oil clinging to its crisp ridges, the acidic balance of slaw slashing through the richness like a scalpel. They didn't "make" this. They engineered it. You don't just throw some bird on a bun and hope for flavor--no, this took planning. A toasted bun soft enough to yield, but strong enough to hold together under the volatile crunch of expertly fried chicken. And that sauce? It's not just spicy. It's calculated heat. Layers. Pepper. Vinegar. Umami. Like a controlled burn... just enough to make you sweat, never enough to stop. You think you've had a spicy chicken sandwich before? You haven't. This--this is the one. Because when you're in the presence of perfection, you don't just eat. You respect it.

Yelp
As a person who loves burgers and Japanese culture, this was a must-go-to for my taste buds! Had this place on my list for quite some time and thought it was finally time to visit! The time we went was actually a perfect time since there was only 1 party so we took our time figuring out what we wanted to eat! FOOD So for the food that we ordered were the Spicy Miso Burger, Topa Topa Burger and the Wagyu Fries. The overall presentation, use of ingredients was just perfect...Just thinking about the first bite is making my mouth water... As we were eating, both my girlfriend and I were silent for a few minutes as we were taking in all the explosive flavors sending us to another dimension! I was wishing that each bite wouldn't end! The use of Wagyu meat, the spicy miso was just a perfect combination. I'm really hoping the next time we visit, I won't be ordering the same thing since I tend to do that but I plan to try the Teriyaki Wagyu Burger which was my other option! OVERALL We're coming back. Enough said. The food was simply exquisite and worth every penny! The employees were very accommodating as we were asking questions about popularity, what certain sauces were so commends to the employees!(Sorry I didn't get your name but if it helps, it was around 12pm on March 9th 2024) There's an abundance of inside seating with a vast amount of table space for all the food you'll be ordering, or however messy you eat lol I would recommend trying to come here early, maybe before 12 or even earlier (for the weekends) as it does tend to get extremely packed and difficult to find parking! Thanks again Ojai Burger for the delicious lunch, we'll be coming back again!
