We went there on a Friday and we were the only visitors at the time. It is free to walk around, take pics, and go inside some of the cars. You have to buy a ticket to ride a train.

This was my 2 1/2 yo granddaughter’s first time riding a “choo-choo” and she had so much fun. But the best part was her interaction with this man, Jason. He made the visit 100 times better. Thank you Jason!

Wonderful experience. I'm glad we went. If you are a train enthusiast this is a must see.

Google
Pretty cool place. Visited on a Thursday and took the self guided tour. They need volunteers, so if you live nearby get involved.

Super fun! I wish there was more cars open but still really interesting to poke around. The entrance is totally free and so many different things to see and climb on.

Great place to visit! We had a blast making memories and great place for photos. The volunteers and workers that maintain the museum that have so much knowledge about each train. Met an elderly gentleman that spoke about how he use to maintenance one of the trains. Love that this place is still pushing to stay open, help support it! Admission to the Museum itself is free. Donations are not required, but they are welcomed. Please keep in mind the Museum is mainly outdoors, so prepare accordingly for the weather.

My husband and I visited the museum in the first part of August and really enjoyed it. My husband is a railfan / train enthusiasts. First off, everyone was very friendly. If you had a question about anything, they would have an answer for you. I want to give a shout out to Jerry, Joe and Ann. Very patient and knowledgeable about equipment. The area was very clean and open. The HO scale train layout that is in one of the old coaches / baggage cars was very well laid out / positioned for the space and was operational.....plus it had a/c in that one. We were able to experience the inside of an old caboose and get in the top part where the conductors and brakeman would ride. We just want to say "Thank You"for preserving a piece of transportation history. Everyone should experience and learn how people use to travel back in the day. It is free to walk around but the excursion has a small cost.

Yelp
This was a great place to take the little ones. Especially if they are into trains. Certain days you can catch a ride down the tracks and back. Just need to look at the schedule. There are plenty of other static trains to look at as well as some you can get into. Safety is a concern so make sure you are watching the little ones as well as your self. They have a nice seating/lunch area in the shade and a few vendors. Stay hydrated as it does get hot here and the trains are not equipped with AC.

Yelp
My kids love the experience about Santa and performance, we were in the VIP cart, and we got some souvenirs mugs. They serve hot chocolate and walker shortbread, we have a tray that we can put our food so this is the main reason that I booked VIP cart so the drinks don't spill. However the trays are extremely dirty, they don't seem to clean them between rides. The hot chocolate also tastes like sweet brown water. Kids love the experience just ok for adults. Ambience: 10/10 Price:5/10 Food:5/10 Service: 10/10

Yelp
This was great fun. The volunteers are awesome. However after checking, their stories don't completely match up to the Oklahoma Historic Society : ) Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Yelp
We went on Easter weekend and had such a blast. We really enjoyed checking out all of the trains. We purchased tickets to ride one of the trains for a short ride to an Easter egg hunt they provided. (How cute?!) the kids played a little mini golf and hopped in the bounce house (Idk if that may have only been there because of Easter or if it's permanently there?) nonetheless; my kids loved it. I will say I do wish more of the trains were available for touring. They had one train setup to walk through with train artifacts on display. It is pretty awesome that this museum is free to tour even without taking a ride... so I'm grateful for the experience. Would totally recommend!

Yelp
Polar express event is great. We did the VIP car & the kids loved the experience with the actors & Santa. Recommend.

Yelp
Took my 2 year old here on a weekday morning right when they opened. It is located sort of behind the zoo and that area of OKC. We were the only ones except for maintenance workers cleaning each train. There was a whole lot more here than what I had expected! Super friendly workers throughout they let you roam and enjoy yourselves. They do have their very own parking lot which is nice and what I didn't realize is that they have a really nice play set for kids to play on right when you walk in... For the most part it is just have fun time and explore yourself there might be guided tours available I didn't see any going on. Several cabins your able to walk through and enjoy yourself. One thing I did learn is that they do offer a train available to rent for birthday parties for children which is a huge plus! They also offer Thomas the train rides end of September which is a huge hit if you have little ones! There are picnic benches also throughout if you wish to take a lunch and spend the afternoon exploring.

Yelp
A thoroughly enjoyable rail museum in the okc. They have their own parking lot which never seems to quite fill up, although on the excursion days I think there is a grass lot they open up for overflow parking. As always in oklahoma come early if you want the shaded spots. They have a sizable collection and it will take you some time to work your way all around and through it. I should also mention that it's entirely outdoor, so no shelter from the heat or rain. Well for the rain you could go inside the cars. For the heat there is nothing to be done. This is a self guided tour, although there is a giftshop (with no fixed hours)on site with folks that can answer questions, for the most part you will wander, read and explore as your heart dictates. Most-but not all-of the cars are refurbished and are open to walk (climb) in, the usual exemptions being the some of the locomotives as most of the equipment here is fully refurbished to working order. They have an especially fine selection of restored caboose's. Upon occasion they will offer excursion trips of a few hours or so, or other special events. The cars (both of them) that have a/c can be rented for events such as birthday parties etc. which seems to be the condition required to get the air conditioning on. There are picnic benches and a small children's playground should you need such things, along with public restrooms. All in all it's not too shabby a way to kill a few hours on a lovely day.

Yelp
They had the Thomas the train. I brought my son and he had a good time. I have to admit as an adult I am a little disappointed as they lacked a true museum. They had food trucks and a small area to buy Thomas the train items. The food trucks had typical fair food, pizza, hamburger, fries. chicken strips, hot dogs, corn dogs, funnel cakes ect...

Yelp
Amazing experience the kids had a blast. They had a special Halloween train ride which was so kid friendly. Everyone was so kind and attentive. I'm looking forward to the Christmas Train in December.

Yelp
I used to take my nephew here when he was little, and he absolutely LOVED it each and every time. It's very "hands on," and the displays are highly informative. Looking for a fun way to spend the afternoon on a budget? Look no farther.

Yelp
Hard to believe, but this was our first visit here since we moved to Norman in August of 2018. My wife booked us on the museum's "Polar Express,"being we were fans of the animated movieand also train enthusiasts(we belong to the OK N Rail model train club in OKC). That being said, we loved our experience and the staff were just incredible! Not only friendly but extremely helpful. This place is a real jewel, we plan on coming back to check out the rest.

Yelp
I love the railway museum! I went with friends last month on the polar express train ride. It was really awesome. Can't wait to take my grandsons next year!

Yelp
This railroad themed museum is small yet fun. I could tell this place was growing in popularity as when I first came here 4 years ago as work was just beginning. Today, The parking lot is paved, More exhibits are actually moving on the rails, the volunteers were all very nice and helpful. We rode the Polar Express late 2009 and my whole family had a great time. That is 14 folks who all enjoyed our 45 minutes together on the train in true family time. Perhaps when I'm retired I can volunteer here. This museum is close to the Zoo, Firefighters museum, Softball hall of fame, Army museum and the Cowboy museum, all located in a very safe area.

Yelp
This was my husband's favorite stop of our vacation!! My husband loved being able to climb inside some of the cars and climb up on the front of the engines. He wanted his picture taken with almost all of them haha. We took alot of pictures and really liked the trains. The only thing I didn't like, there was no guide, no workers, nobody in the office. We pretty much had the whole place to ourselves to walk around. It would have been really cool to have someone tell us more about the trains. I saw that they had an expansion project that would be in different phases, and based on the little map, it looks like they should have already finished phase one with a gift shop and what not, but we didn't see one anywhere.

Yelp
A Day with Thomas (Thomas the Train) was so much fun! The set up was great. Lots of acrivities for the kids to do: face paint, balloons, bubbled, wooden train sets to play with, playground, lots of food and fun. Covered areas to get out if the sun.

Yelp
The Polar Express train ride was a success with our 4-year old daughter. Very well done!

Yelp
We came down to OKC just for the Polar Express train ride. The weekend trip has been a great family Christmas getaway. The Polar Express was fantastic, we were all delighted by it. This has been my only trip to the railway museum but it was a great experience from start to finish.

Yelp
Great entertainment for children about 2 to 8 years old, I highly recommend you bring children on days the train rides are running or when Thomas The Train is in town. Ample parking, some air conditioning but mostly out door exhibits, events. Best fall or spring time. Not overly expensive, weekday train ride on Thomas was $16, you can purchase online or at the event. Military discounts available. Lots to do for no charge! Parking is free. If you've got guests in from out of town with young children this is great entertainment! You can also bring a picnic or your own drinks in a cooler. No pets. Lots of shade, seating, and tents available.

Yelp
For having free admission and designed for self-exploration, this is a great spot for children and those who love trains. To ride the train itself does have a fee, and honestly it isn't a "must do" since you aren't going very far and you're essentially just sitting there. Not that I'm expecting to be jumping around or anything, but it would have been neat to have someone give a little history on steam engines or something during the ride. The real highlight is during the Day Out with Thomas weekends. There are several more (free) activities aimed right at the children such as mini golf, temporary tattoos, play areas with Thomas toys, story time, Thomas shows playing on a loop, arts & crafts, etc, Sir Topham Hat is there for photo ops, and there's a large gift shop filled with all kinds of Thomas goodies (although be well aware they are quite pricey). You can still ride the train, but this time with Thomas pulling it. However, the prices for that are rather ridiculous at $18 for ages two and older on Saturday/Sunday. For a 25 minute train ride on "Thomas," it would have cost my family of four $72. Fridays were cheaper at $16, making the total "only" $64. I can't justify that at all. But this is clearly the weekend the museum makes a killing. Carnival-esque food booths are also available during Thomas weekends so there are at least a few options if you find yourself hungry or thirsty. Neat area for the rare visit. If you want the train ride, go during any day that doesn't involve Thomas - it is considerably cheaper for the same thing just without Thomas at the front.

Yelp
I came to visit ORM on a road trip a few months ago. While they were gearing up for their yearly Thomas event, it was still nice to see their collection, and several members were able to answer my questions (as I'm affiliated with another train museum myself). For this museum being relatively new, they have a nice collection, and clearly their membership base has done a lot in the preservation and aesthetics department. My only complaint is that they don't operate each weekend and are closed on Sundays, but being a non-profit, and one of which I'm intimately familiar, I won't knock off stars - it's not easy to get a railroad museum running, let alone operating all the time. I do hope to come visit here again in the future when I'm driving through OK City.

Yelp
There's not a huge indoor space full of exhibits, and the museum is very open air and self-serve. However, there's plenty to see here and no admission fee. I understand there are fees for train rides, but I didn't check into that so I can't speak about details. I settled on four stars because three just didn't seem sufficient. If you're expecting a fancy museum that will teach you all about railways in the region, you'll be disappointed. If you would like to check out some cool old trains and climb aboard a few, you're more likely to be delighted! One of the train cars was filled with photos of famous Oklahomans, past and present, which was a nice touch.
