"Yoshiko Morikawa is the third-generation owner of this okonomiyaki emporium in the heart of Dotombori. The mainstay of the menu is the ‘Mazeyaki, with a batter containing a mixture of many different ingredients. The menu fairly bursts with variety: pork and generous amounts of seafood are the heart of the shop’s famous ‘Mizuno-yaki’. In its ‘Yamaimo-yaki’, yam is used instead of flour in the batter, while the ‘Yoshoku-yaki’ is a creation handed down from her grandparents." - Michelin Inspector

Absolutely delicious and worth the wait. I lined up for about 35 minutes at lunch time, which I think is typical for this restaurant. As other reviewers have noted, you make your order in the queue and can't add more once you're inside. But if you know these things ahead of time, it's definitely worth a visit. I got a mini sized okonomoyaki and it was enough to fill me up, but if you're not sure, I'd suggest ordering any of the full size dishes. They are very efficient and start cooking your meal before you get to your seat, but they will finish it off in front of you.

Went on a Friday around 12 pm and waited only 5-10 mins to be seated. Okonomiyaki tasted good but not great or anything. There was a few small strip of noodles a little over charred in my okonomiyaki. The service was good and the restaurant was clean with nice ambiance. Price wise, is not overly expensive, about 2.2k yen (with tax) for the one i ordered.

Nice to find an oknomiyaki place that offer vegetarian option. You can even add noodle to your oknomiyaki. Queue is decent when we visit. You will have to place your order while in the queue. Once you are seated, you can’t add order. Level 1 is counter seating. Level 2 has tables and suit for 3-6 persons. Service at level 1 seems to be better than level 2. Level 2 staff is just trying to rush to cook your food and serve it to you. Maybe the heat of cooking plus serving isn’t something they enjoy. Food wise, pretty tasty food. Only thing I don’t understand, they cook raw food with fully cooked food on the same hot plate and close together.

Google
I ordered their two most popular dishes. I was expecting great tasting food and it didn’t disappoint. The gentleman was giving out menus when you que. I got an English menu and placed my order. Today is a Sunday so the line was maybe 20mins. Back to the food, the flavors with the brown sauce, spicy mustard and mayonnaise were awesome. I thought in ordered too much but killed both of them. Of course I couldn’t eat dinner until past 8 pm. People just wait in line, this place so darn tasty

Google
Went at around 2pm and there were still around 15 people queueing. Waited for 45mins and we got it. They do the cooking in front of you. And I’d say this is another snack place. This is ok place to go and I’d suggest to come if there’s less waiting. (Since ones that do takoyaki also have this with way less waiting time)

Google
Tourist trap alert!! Beware all!! Food was ok, not worth the hype at all and most definitely not worth more than a 10 minute wait at all. You are better off finding a random local joint that is more quiet to get a better meal. No wonder the reviews are so low compared to other famous places in Osaka... Service wasn't very friendly, felt like they wanted us in and out as fast as possible. For a place that has so many Michelin guide stickers on the front door, why is the food and service so mediocre?

Michelle Tse

Google
we ordered the recommended set for 3-4 people. Surprisingly it wasn’t spectacular as I thought for a place that was Michelin recommended for so many years. The green onion pork was our favorite. Yakisoba wasn’t bad.

Google
Michelin for consecutive years since 2016 & 3.66 rating on tabelog. Definitely worth a try! Plus, besides Okonomiyaki, you get to try Yamaimoyaki (uses Japanese yam instead of flour) too. Tip 1: Oysters as a topping is only available in winter - so do try that if you see it! Tip 2: Opening hours state it closes at 9pm, but the queue often cuts off much earlier. I was there ~7pm and they had already stopped letting people queue.

Yelp
This place is located inside an insane indoor/outdoor mall, so you and your party can take turns waiting on the line and walking around looking at stuff. We got in line at 12:43 PM on a Monday and our party of 2 was seated upstairs at 1:30. They take your order on the line, so you get your food pretty quickly once seated. We did the Ichioshi combination - mini yamaimo-yaki (pork sirloin and scallops) and mini mix modan-yaki (topped with soba). The mini yamaimo-yaki was incredible - definitely some of the best okonomiyaki I've ever had. The soba pancake was really good, too!

Yelp
My friend suggested me to come here when I was choosing the car wash location! Personally I really like that once you get into the washing area, the machine will carry the car through the washer! Pretty cool experience! They are offering the great deal so if you are around and thinking what to get, I recommend that you try this one! Vacuum here is pretty strong and love that suction! Keep your car nice and clean! Keep up the good work! Cheers

Yelp
Staying in this area for 3 days we kept walking by and everytime there's always a line. We managed to catch the end of lunch and waited half an hour. This place is Michelin gourmad recommended. We ordered the family set for 4 and there was more than enough food. I felt this was more of a hype. Practically the entire area has a lot of street okonomyaki so competition is fierce. I guess you get what you paid for to be able to dine and have someone cook in front of you. Presentation was ok definitely missing bonito flakes on top. The best one was large scallion. The pork on top was a bit dry.

Yelp
The first night we tried to come here, the restaurant cut off the line right at the people ahead of us and told us they couldn't serve anyone else for the night. Granted, it was somewhat close to closing (but not within the hour), but it was incredibly disappointing to have to leave after already waiting a little while. The next night, we arrived much earlier (as in, hours earlier) and the restaurant ended up cutting off the line *again* -- but at least it was behind us. Still, I thought it was a little odd that they couldn't accommodate service through to closing time two nights in a row, and definitely not great that it was so early this night. Contrary to some other reviews, the line did not move very quickly. We were in line probably around 45 minutes, but in that time a waitress came out to give everyone menus so they'd be ready with their order once they were finally seated. Once we were let in, we were seated at the teppanyaki downstairs and placed our order. Everything was made right in front of us, and the cooks were working on multiple orders at once, which was impressive. My husband ordered mizuno-yaki and I got the pork-kimchi-green onion yakisoba. Each dish was a perfect amount of food for one person, but I wouldn't say it was shareable unless you both had pretty small appetites. We both loved our food and the yakisoba in particular was very good. The staff were also all really nice. However, the entire process of trying to eat here took so much time and effort that I'm not sure it was worth it, even despite how great the food was. It wasn't mind-blowingly delicious or one of those meals you can't stop thinking about days or years later, but it was good. Worth checking out to say you tried it, but I'd be willing to check out other okonomiyaki and yakisoba places in Osaka the next time I'm here.

Yelp
A server takes your order in line (you can't order more inside the restaurant) and then the pancake is made to order either a little bit before you come in or right in front of you. Waited around 30 min at 6pm as they have limited seats inside. I got the mini seafood mix pancake and added noodles, which was a good amount of food for 1 person. If you are sharing, you may want the regular size or want to get 1 pancake each, depending on how hungry you are. It looks like there are vegetarian and gluten-free options as well. It was good but not sure if it was mind-blowing.

Yelp
Food was delicious! First time trying and glad I came here. Bit of a wait but totally worth it. The service was great and loved the coziness of the place.

Yelp
I was very excited to try this place as it had a Michelin star for their Okonomiyaki. There's always a huge line outside and we waited about 20 mins outside to be seated around 2pm. I've had Okonomiyaki before and I really liked it. I figured this location would be the best having a michelin star. We ordered: Ichioshi set: 1. Mini Yamaimo: I didn't realize that this was a potato based and not the normal chewy starchy type that normal Okonomiyaki is made out of. Although it has large scallops and meat, the texture wasn't what I expected and I felt it was just alright. I felt that it was odd that this was their #1 recommended which isn't a traditional Okonomiyaki traditionally eaten. 2. Modan-yaki: Also felt this was just okay. Yaki soba noodles grilled which was good but nothing special. I rather just have yakisoba the normal way. Overall, I think this place is place is a big overrated. It wasn't bad and the service was great but I've had better Okonomiyaki at local stands. The location is very convenient and easy to get to. Also the line is in the shade so it doesn't get too hot or risk of standing in the rain. Their menu doesn't explain much and I feel their recommendations on the menu as "most popular" or "top orders" skew people to order the wrong stuff. Very average.

Yelp
We were pleasantly surprised by the fact that it was a Michelin starred restaurant. I had no desire to have okonomiyaki. All the pics and videos looked unimpressive but these guys really made this a destination. The food was AMAZING and changed my opinion of the dish entirely.

Yelp
When in Osaka, you need to eat okonomiyaki, one of the city's iconic, signature dishes. Located on the Sennichimae Shopping Street, near Dotonbori, I first found Mizuno while researching through the Michelin Guide for eateries in Osaka. They have been awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand for many years which indicate good quality, good value cooking. They are a popular restaurant, specializing in Osaka-style okonomiyaki pancakes where ingredients are all mixed into a batter and then grilled on a flat top griddle. It is family owned and run, which I love. There's a history here and it goes back three generations. Despite the stanchions and ropes outside their doors to help manage their lines, lucky for us, there was NO LINE when we arrived. We waited just a few minutes before we were greeted and led upstairs through a narrow stairway to our table. The menu offers a surprisingly wide variety of choices and of course "set menus" for larger parties. Pork and seafood are at the heart of Mizuno's famous "Mizuno-yaki" which is what we ordered. We also ordered the pork mince yakisoba where you can choose between thick or thin cut noodles. They brought out the ingredients and began cooking the okonomiyaki right in front of us (we started thinking we may have to cook it ourselves for a bit, lol). This was so fun, especially for our little one, and really added to the whole experience. Next they cooked our yakisoba. Once they were done, they turned down the heat and we ate right off the grill. The okonomiyaki was delicious with all the bits of meat and the seafood medley of squid, shrimp, and scallops (my favorite). The noodles were also quite tasty. All in all, this was the perfect serving size to share between the three of us without being overly stuffed. Okonomiyaki, noodles, and a large beer all for $22 and some change -- what an amazing value! You really can't go wrong. Everything was so fast and efficient in typical Japanese fashion. We headed downstairs to pay and saw their Michelin awards go far back as 2016. Once we exited, there was a long queue outside. I don't know that I'd wait in a really long line for it, but if it's short -- definitely go for it!

Yelp
In the heart of Dotonburi and the crazy crowds was this okonomiyaki restaurant. The restaurant is separated by two floors of dining spaces & 3 - 4 cooking grills at each table. My partner and I ordered the ICHIOSHI COMBINATION for two which was thought to be on the smaller side but it was still quite large and we couldn't finish it. Delicious, and a great experience. Must try when you're in Dotonoburi. ENJOY! PS: Queue up to dine! We arrived about 20 min after opening and there was a small line, but it moved quite quickly. I suggest going early!

Yelp
Passed by this place looking for good okonomiyaki and found it! This has made the Michelin guide and for good reason. This place is great! Of course there was a line, but it moves fairly quickly. This place is located in Dotonburi right next to the Ichiran in the popular Dotonburi covered restaurant area. They will give you a menu to look at when you are close to the front of the line and take your order ahead of time. Make sure you know what you want as once you order food, you may not add to your order because of how busy this place is. If you are not seated in the main floor, there is still upstairs for more seating. We were unfortunately seated upstairs where we could actually watch them make the okonomiyaki. It was made in a different spot and brought to us to keep warm. It was full of umami flavor and Uber delicious. It was a hit with my young kids too, and they wanted to be back the next day to eat this again. A must try place!

Yelp
A Michelin-star restaurant that serves Osaka style pancakes? Sign me up. This might have been one of the best meals I've had in Japan. It just tastes so damn good. Expect to wait to get in, but they work fast. If you want a really good hearty meal in Osaka, then this is the spot.

Yelp
Okonomiyaki is a popular food item in Osaka. People describe it like a savory pancake, but to me it's more like an omelette stacked with toppings. Located in the heart of Dotonbori, you'll see a line for Mizuno like most popular restaurants. They have been recognized by Michelin, after all. The line goes somewhat quickly though, as the restaurant is multiple stories tall. We placed our order while in line. Thankfully they let us share one main dish as we weren't all that hungry, but they did request that we order drinks and let us know we couldn't order anything additional once seated. The staff member taking orders and managing the line spoke good English, while the servers upstairs spoke less. We were seated on the third floor, up flights of very narrow and steep stairs. All tables has the teppanyaki/grill/hot plate right in front of you, which is where they place the food. We got the vegetarian okonomiyaki. We were asked what toppings we wanted, we weren't sure so we got them all. Overall, we didn't love the flavor of the dish. It was kind of a funky flavor. However we did not try okonomiyaki elsewhere so we don't know if that's standard for this dish or unique to Mizuno.

Ozzie T.

Yelp
When in Osaka, why not try a Michelin rated okonomiyaki? We visited on a Monday afternoon and there were 2 people in line in front of us. Our party of 6 was seated in about 10 minutes however 2 of us were seated at the counter and 4 of us at a table upstairs. It was neat to watch the food being prepared in front of us. I noticed that the guy preparing our food did not use gloves to put the bonito flakes on top of out pancakes. ‍ My cold sake was warm but sumimasen she brought me a new glass of sake that was nice and cold! Overall, I thought the pancake was tasty - probably due to the sauces and mayonnaise. It's a neat experience, check it out!

Dani P.

Yelp
We came here because when you're in Osaka, you gotta get okonomiyaki. If you have to pick an okonomiyaki place, you might as well check out a michelin star rated one. That was my group's thinking, anyway. Most Japanese places shut down between 2-5 to prepare between the lunch and dinner crowds so we decided to go at 3. Even at an off hour, the line was outside and wrapped in a queue. They're as efficient as they can be with getting people through though; they take your order while you're still standing outside, and once you're seated they ask that you don't order more food. You can tell they know how to cater to foreigners. In addition to a decently translated menu, they even have gluten free okonomiyaki which I've never seen anywhere. My group of 5 got a varied mix of options from the menu and all of them were great. In general, it's definitely a good place. Is it worth the wait and rush to get you out the door? Eh I don't know if I'd do it again and might try another place next time.

Yelp
I really like okonomiyaki so when I discovered there was a Michelin Bib Gourmand spot to grab some, I had to check it out. Mizuno is located in Dotonburi, which is one of Osaka's main locations for street food. That day it was very busy and almost every business in Dotonburi had a line so, admittedly, we waited about an hour and a half. The line extended outside of the restaurant and once you get within a certain range of the entrance, and employee will come by to drop off menus and take your order while you're still in line. Once we finally entered the restaurant, it was quite small, but very efficient. You sit in front of a grill counter and the chefs prepare your okonomiyaki for you. The order you placed in line is already known by the chefs so the food is ready quickly. The style of okonomiyaki here is saucier and the structure of the pancake itself is more loose. You're provided with a small spatula in order to cut and serve yourself. In addition to being saucier, the okonomiyaki is very savory. There are generous portions of meat and seafood mixed in, depending on which okonomiyaki you opt for. While the food was delicious, it definitely wasn't worth waiting 1.5 hours for. But that's not the restaurants fault as it's popular and we came during a busy time. Tables are turned quickly so we were out in about 20 min.

Sebastian B.

Yelp
Mizuno was on list my top places for Yakisoba. I can say the Yakisoba was good but they dropped the ball hard on the Okonomiyaki. Of. Purse you expect a line at almost any restaurant but they send someone out with menus and make you choose in a rush of confusion. Zero explanation of what the dishes are and overall adding stress to the already stressful crowded Dotoburi vibe. When we get in and to our table the cook comes and whips up our appetizers. Again no explanation or description leaving us to decide if the okonomiyaki should be eaten with a spoon or should be eat for it to finish. That was decided for us when the chef comes back with noodle and just pushes the first dish to one side to make room. The entire experience was rushed and just felt more of a cash grab without joy or hospitality. I did give 3 stars because the food wasn't horrible. I cooked my Okonomiyaki longer than my buddies but again they wanted out of there so I had to gobble it instead of enjoy it. Do yourself a favor and find another place for Yakisoba.

Dianna H.

Yelp
Okay spot for okonomiyaki but not worth the 1+ hour wait. My party of 3 came for lunch around 11:30 on Thursday and waited a little over an hour to get seated. Halfway through the wait, a staff member comes out, gives you a menu, and takes your order before you get seated. They have counter seating downstairs for 8 people, but they only seat parties of 1-2 people here. For larger groups, they have second floor seating, which is where we were seated. We were hoping to get seated downstairs at the counter so we could watch them cook our food, but sadly that wasn't the case. They cooked the yamaimo-yaki in front of us, but the other two okonomiyaki was cooked inside the kitchen and they just put the mayo and sauce on the griddle in front of us. We ordered 3 different types of okonomiyaki to share: Yamaimo-yaki (1680 yen) - what they're known for here. This is okonomiyaki made using only Japanese yam and no flour. I didn't like this that much as it was a little bit runnier without flour. Mizuno-yaki (1450 yen) - regular okonomiyaki with pork and seafood. Nothing too special about it. Modan-yaki (1210 yen) - okonomiyaki + soba noodles on top. This was our favorite of the three due to the crispy noodles, which added a good texture to the rest of the okonomiyaki.

Andrea S.

Yelp
This Michelin star okonomiyaki place is delicious and I've never had such great okonomiyaki before. We did the 3 set okonomiyaki and choose thick noodles for the third dish. It was about a 30 minute wait and you'll definitely see the line outside. Each okonomiyaki was unique and it was enjoyable to watch the chef's cook in front of us.

Earl Q.

Yelp
The Service: One of things I noticed was how the wait staff made you feel like it was such an honor for you to be there. Waiting in line was one thing, but making you order while you were in line and telling you that you can't add to your order after you are seated was another. Needless to say, the servers were not very friendly (to put it lightly) The Food: I've had better, it's not bad, there just really isn't anything special and there's no spectacle in the preparation either. Just some random person making an omelette. The Verdict: Don't get fooled by the Michelin Stickers on the door. It's just another run of the mill tourist trap where you get your hair all greasy and sticky for the the rest of the day.

Jessamine J.

Yelp
5/5 for the food, service, and location. While we were walking around, my fiance and I noticed this restaurant had a Michelin star. My fiance is a sucker for restaurants with Michelin stars. The line didn't look too bad so we decided, "Why not?" We waited about 20 minutes before we got into Mizuno, so overall not too bad of a wait! Food: We ordered their Yamaimo-yaki & Pork Yakisoba. They cook your food right in front of you, so it hardly feels like a wait since it's apart of the experience! Once you receive it, the portion is perfect for 2 people! You know the food is FRESH when it sizzles off your plate! The taste all blend so well together, and I love the sauce they use. Service: Overall pretty great! Since there's limited seating, your server can easily track when you need more water. No complaints, everyone is super nice. Location: The area is conveniently near shopping and transit. If it's really busy, there's a line that starts outside and then a small line that wraps inside. The overall restaurant I believe sits about 15-20 people total..may be less. It's a little tight, I didn't have enough room to put my bag next to me since I didn't want to take up the other persons' space next to me. Get cozy! The experience will be worth it. Overall great place! Loved being here while visiting Japan.

Ryen B.

Yelp
Stopped by bc of the reputation. The line starts to queue 30 minutes before opening, but it's all very orderly. Staff takes your order before you enter and when you are seated, the server comes out and puts the food on your table-top grill. We tried two different versions with a seafood mix- plenty of seafood and very tasty. Citrusy yuzu flavored pickles were also very good. Worth checking out.

Gustavo R.

Yelp
Heaven...what else can I say? Heaven on earth. We are not worthy of eating such delicacies. One literally feels guilty of eating such delicious food. It is a fact that travel enriches the tastes buds and oh boy! Going to this amazing place does indeed introduce you to delicious types of okonomiyaki. A symphony of flavors, colors, textures, that unless you try it, you will understand it. Japan cuisine at its best!

Davis N.

Yelp
First time having Okonomiyaki and it was amazingly delicious!! Definitely one of the highlight meal from my trip and was told by my wife that this was one of the best. If I ever visit japan again, this is a must! The idea of the dish was something new to me and it was simply mind blowing. The line gets pretty long, so we decided to wait in line an hour before it opened. The line was still pretty decent size but was super long a min prior to opening. The restaurant itself comprise of two levels with limited seating, but the restaurant is pretty efficient and provides great service that the long line isn't as long as a wait. The staff was simply amazing and it I was truly grateful to experience such grace and hospitality.

Tiff H.

Yelp
The night before, we went to the restaurant next door since Mizuno was already closed and this place was open late. They sold okonomiyaki and it was pretty freaking awful. However, we realized we wasted a meal there when we should have gone to Mizuno, the Michelin starred okonomiyaki. It was my first Michelin experience and the fact that it was the cheapest definitely contributed to the ease of dining at Mizuno. There was only a small line when we got there around 2:45 PM. We were able to check out a menu and order with a server during that time and we finally got seated at the counter around 3:20. If anyone in the US has ever had Chick-fil-a... this had all the efficiency and productivity of a Chick-fil-a at lunch time. By the time we were seated at the counter, the food was prepped and ready to be finished cooking before our eyes. It's prepared by the chef right in front of you - so I was able to get some great shots. I ordered the mini Mizuno-yaki which was a traditional okonomiyaki with pork, mince, squid, shrimp, scallops and octopus. I also had it topped with noodles because go big or go home, right? Super tasty (especially because we were comparing it side by side to the awful okonomiyaki we had the day before. Definitely recommend Mizuno if your'e shopping in the area. Cheap and easy to dine in, as long as you try to come here during non-peak meal times.

Cindy Z.

Yelp
I wanted okonomiyaki and this one was a highly popular choice along with the fact that it's a Michelin restaurant as well. With that said, it was no surprise that there was a a pretty long line as I arrived for lunch. While waiting in line, someone takes your order ahead of time to speed up the process. I waited about 20 minutes before getting seated, although it probably would've been even longer. This is the perk of solo traveling: skipping lines! I could feel the jealousy of all the people waiting in front of me as I bypassed them. Anyways, I was seated in front of the teppan grill as I watched the chefs making all the okonimiyakis. The unique twist on the okonomiyakis at Mizuno is the use of Japanese yam as an ingredient. Since I was by myself and not too hungry, I opted for the mini okonomiyaki with pork for about $10 USD. This was the perfect size for me and it was pretty fun watching it being created in front of me. You even get to eat it straight off the teppan grill. The mixture of all the ingredients resembled more of an egg scramble of some sort. There were probably only a few pieces of pork in there as well and nothing about the flavor stood out to me. With that, I have come to the conclusion that I can't trust the Michelin guide in Asia. It felt so overrated and overhyped. It was good, but nothing special and not worth the wait.

Rickey M.

Yelp
Michelin Starred Okonomiyaki? Count me in! Came here on recommendation of a few friends that traveled thru Osaka, and some local friends. Lucked out cause our hotel was right there at the entry of where it's located, so we just got up early and showed up 10 minutes before opening on a Saturday and got a seat right away. They'll take your order in line to expedite the process. Once seated just sit back and watch the magic happen in front of you if you're lucky enough to get a seat at the grill. I did see they had an upstairs, but have no idea whats up there. We got the scallion okonomiyaki and one of the signature ones, and I'll say the signature one just seemed like a standard okonomiyaki. Really clean and tasty, but the scallion one was the star here. Something about that had it packed with flavor, but it was a little small, so if you get this make sure to order 2. You're most likely traveling so you might as well double up on it! Overall, a solid experience, and top okonomiyaki experience I've had personally out of all the places i've been. Check this place out!

Yelp
This place was really tiny and cramped but the plus was that there were two floors. The waits will be long since the place is super popular but worth the wait. The restaurant is basically a Teppanyaki okonomiyaki restaurant where they cook your food right in front of you on this griddle. When you get to the restaurant, you wait on line then you are given a menu which they have in multiple languages, after looking at the menu they will actually take your order while you wait on line. Once you order your food that's it, you can't order additional food once inside. When you are shown to your seat, they will begin to prepare your meal at the table. The food: Mini Yamaimo-Yaki with Pork Belly- The difference with this okonomiyaki is that they make this with just Japanese yams and no flour. I enjoyed my meal here and I would say this place is worth the visit even with the waits. The flavor of the okonomiyaki was good and I really liked the texture of the yam, I thought the pork belly was a smart protein since it added a nice flavor to the pancake. I also thought the sauces, mayo and toppings went really well with the pancake. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=0yH2NPuya3pW70jRv_n29w&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA

Yelp
Another Michelin place that has bad service. This one despite having good but not the best Okonomiyaki "allows" you to order just once; while in line, never telling you that once you order, you cannot order again. It doesn't matter whether they don't have anyone waiting - which they didn't. They will refuse to let you order anything after you have ordered once in line. How are you supposed to know what the serving portions are like? They never tell you that you can only order once and no amount of asking politely will help you. No thanks, Ajinoya had a Michelin Star before Mizuno and I have always been treated well there.

Yelp
We ate at this place back in 2016. Absolutely awesome. Marking it here so that I have it for personal reference :)

Yelp
This place is known for their yam based okonomiyaki. The texture is slightly different but honestly I probably wouldn't be able to tell it apart from a flour based one in a blind taste test. But it was good!! all grilled to perfection. And the topping choices here are amazing. Come here with a group so you can try a little bit of everything! The lines here can get long so would recommend coming early.

Yelp
I thought I trusted Yelp reviews and Michelin Star ratings, but today I was pretty disappointed. I feel like I overpaid for a subpar experience. I don't really understand what makes Mizuno stand out from the hundreds of other okonomiyaki shops in Osaka. Dotonburi is filled with places that will cook okonomiyaki in front of you on grills at price points nowhere near Mizuno's. The okonomiyaki at Mizuno is about 1500Y and street okonomiyaki is about 350Y....and honestly they both taste pretty similar because the sauce/toppings used for this dish is pretty standard. In fact, it doesn't even taste far off from what I make at home...and I buy premade flour from Japanese grocery stores in America. At Mizuno I ordered the modan-yaki, which is a variation of okonomiyaki that uses noodles. I also ordered the yakisoba. Both came to our table a bit burnt on the bottom with some noodles that had been cooked so long that they were hardly edible. It felt strange paying 2000Y for these two items when I can get about five of the same dish elsewhere. We also ordered an odd Japanese coca-cola with a white label advertised to prevent you from "absorbing fat" during a meal. It was 350Y and just tasted like regular coke. It doesn't help that we had to wait a long time to be seated (about 45min). The line outside was very long and when we were invited inside we had to wait even longer for a spot to open up. Mizuno has about 10 seats at the booth and about 4 tables upstairs. So, the waiting line moves pretty slowly. As much as I'm hating on Mizuno, I don't think my experience here was too horrible. The outside employee in charge of the wait was really nice and gave us fans to keep because it was hot outside. He was also really efficient in taking orders and keeping the line controlled. The modanyaki and yakisoba were (in my opinion) overpriced but still somewhat good to eat. The interior and the bathroom were very clean. While I'm not sure if I would come back anytime soon, I think my experience next time would be better if 1. I get seated downstairs where the cooking happens and 2. I order the yamaimo-yaki which is Mizuno's most popular option. I recommend doing these two things to make the best out of your meal.

Yelp
After taking the shinkansen from Tokyo, we were ready for our first round of eats in Osaka. Where to start? On a friend's recommendation, we decided to check out the very popular Mizuno, which specializes in one thing: okonomiyaki. We dropped in on a Monday (around 6:30pm) and it was busy. Line was long and it stayed that way the whole time we were there. Service is efficient: you get menus once you're close to the front and then they take your order (FYI: you only get one chance to order. That's it. No extras). From there, you go inside and wait either on the main floor or upstairs. The main floor only has room for 9 people to sit at the okonomiyaki bar while the upstairs has about 5 tables/booths. We waited downstairs but then got sent upstairs to eat. The menu is all about okonomiyaki. Different variations, combinations and a few side dishes. Surprisingly, not cheap! - Mini yamaimoyaki (pork loin and scallop) and mini mix modernyaki (6 ingredients with soba noodles) (¥2,105) - I liked the yamaimoyaki much more than the modernyaki. The yam gave it a better, tastier texture. They let them get nice and crispy and then are topped with sweet sauce, mustard and mayo. I liked how it stays hot on the grill and how they give you little spatulas to cut the okonomiyaki into smaller pieces. This place is more about the experience and show (watching the chefs work their magic) more so than the food. I was still hungry afterwards and left wanting more. Questionable whether it was worth the wait.

Yelp
Long line for dinner. About an hour wait for us by the time we arrived at 6 ish. They were good about trying to move the line along by asking people to order ahead. Food was served Teppanyaki style with it cooked in front of you. How fun! How did it taste? Interesting - but in the end it wasn't our type of food. As with most places, tight space but there were two floors.

Yelp
Being on the Michelin guide, maybe I expected more out of this place. For the long line, you'd think the wait would be worth it. Don't get me wrong, the food is good. But it is not so good to justify the experience. My party had not been spoken to the whole time there. They didn't say a single word, not to identify which okonomiyaki they were cooking, no hello, no thank you. I wouldn't call myself bilingual by any means, but I know enough to get by in Japan and the silence dulled the experience. We did get a small apology when I had to remind them that they didn't serve us any water or given us silverware until after they cooked the first dish, though. Overall, I think many other places can satisfy you just the same if not better.

Yelp
My best friend and I split a traditional Okonomiyaki because it was quite filling. The service was impeccable and the cost very reasonable as we split it (though probably a touch pricey for okonomiyaki?). I will say that I am unsure why Mizuno stands out other than English speakers being a simp for it? Count me in, I guess! If I make my way back to Osaka, I don't think I'd go out of my way for Mizuno; I would want to try another okonomiyaki place. Maybe one off the beaten path.

Yelp
There are tons of Okonomiyaki restaurants in Osaka especially in the Shinsaibashi shopping area, I decided to try this one out basically because it's one of the oldest joints in the area, plus they have a yam-based style which I thought would be pretty unique. And I liked it a lot too. * * * EXPERIENCE * * * It's not hard to find at all by phone navigation. I arrived at 12:30pm and there was just one party in front of me, so I just waited like 3 mins before I could go in. There are just ~10 seats on the 1st floor, they have a 2nd floor too but I didn't have chance to go up and check it out. Right after I was seated I was given a Japanese menu (not surprising, many people do say I have a Japanese look) but once they saw my puzzling face they switched me an English menu instead. It's very self-explanatory. Choose a okonomiyaki style and choose two meat types. I landed with the Yam based style with squid and pork loin. * * * FOOD * * * Yam-based Okonomiyaki with Squid and Pork Loin: A Tasty! They cooked it right in front of me and asked if I would be okay with mayo and mustard and sure they both ended up enhancing the overall taste. The cooking took about 5 mins, they left the okonomiyaki on the iron plate, gave me a spatula and a small plate. The batter was extremely soft, and I feel like because of the yam base it was sweeter than usual. The cabbage was fresh so it had kind of like a sweet flavor and stood out in the overall taste. Squid and pork loin were both very nice. Since the okonomiyaki was on the iron cooking plate the whole time and it was like ~90% cooked when I started eating, I could feel the transition from beginning to end of meal as each bite was different - from slightly liquid-ish batter to fully cooked. To me this transition was pretty special so I really enjoyed it. I have had standard okonomiyaki before and I do think that the yam-based from this restaurant was something really special and I enjoyed it a lot. I recommend everyone trying this place and see if you like this style or not.

Yelp
I've had okonomiyaki a few times before in my life, but never like this in Osaka. Unfortunately, I never got to sit down and experience this treat the last time I was in Osaka in 2016. This time around, I was definitely gearing to rectify that horrible lapse in judgment. When I first passed Mizuno, I wondered why so many people were in line. Turns out, I had the place bookmarked but totally forgot about it. We ended up going when the lines died down. I really wasn't sure what to expect. Ended up getting a set menu of 2 smaller okonomiyaki because, well, there was more eating to be done later that day! Let me just tell you. This. Place. Is. Amazing. Probably should have ordered more. Just be sure to go here when there is no line. It can get pretty cramped and hot in there. In fact, we sat at the grill and our faces almost melted off. I think we got a little burned, too, haha. Totally worth it. Get in line. Order. And wait to be amazed!

Yelp
Mizuno is a very tourist-friendly place to get some famous okonomiyaki in Osaka, with a convenient location and English menu for those that can't speak Japanese. There is a line, and we had to wait for around 20 minutes before getting in, but the workers were all quite kind. I give this place three stars simply because the food wasn't anything special. We ordered one of the sets that included two mini variants of the two most popular okonomiyaki, which we shared amongst two people. Make sure you understand that "mini" really means mini - we only had about 3 bites each of each variant. The price was not cheap either - we spent around 800 Yen each or so, although I guess you are paying for the experience of having someone cook it in front of you. I also didn't think the taste was anything special - I had okonomiyaki at the same quality in street food festivals in New York, or at Kenka in St. Mark's Place. In conclusion, not a bad place to try out okonomiyaki and get the full experience, but there also could be several better options in the near area, which is filled with countless restaurants.

Yelp
Mizuno is NOT a Michelin star restaurant- it's only recommended in the Michelin guide. Having an actual star rating vs. being in the guide as a recommended place to eat in a city are 2 different things. Mizuno is a sit down okonomiyaki restaurant where the chef will cook the okonomiyaki in front of you. Overall, it's an overrated establishment. There was a line even around 2pm but it moved at a fast pace. We only had to wait about 30 minutes to be seated. Someone will take your order outside the restaurant before you even get seated. The cons: Our okonomiyaki was cooked unusually long. People who got seated later than us had theirs made faster and left earlier than us, wtf? We waited for at least 30 mins before we were even allowed to eat. I asked the chef if ours was ready yet thinking he forgot about us as we stared longingly at it, but he said it was not ready. Maybe it was because we were sitting at the tail end of the counter so it's possible the teppan plate wasn't as hot as others? Because ours was cooked longer, I personally felt the yakisoba noodles in our Modan yaki was overcooked and too crispy. There's nothing too special about Mizuno asides from it's a sit down establishment where the okonomiyaki is cooked in front of you. Service is not particularly friendly either. You could easily get something cooked faster from any stall at dotonburi or the same experience at another restaurant. Based on other's reviews, it seems a large portion visitors come because they're misguided with the perception that this is a michelin star establishment. Go elsewhere.

Yelp
So we came here on a Tuesday at around 11:20-ish, and waited maybe 10-15 minutes. There were maybe 4 or 5 people/groups in front of us, but things moved pretty fast. They have their system down like a well oiled machine. I like how they gave us menus and took our orders before we went in, which resulted in the food coming shortly after we sat down. We opted for the 1st set that comes with four of their specialties plus yakisoba. It was a good amount of food for the 4 of us, but if your group has 3 or more adults you may want to order more. Once you enter you cannot add any food to your order, as it's prepped while you're in line. We sat upstairs and my wife saw the food "elevator" that brings your prepared okonomiyaki up for placement on your table grill. They finish cooking it and let you know when to dig in. We loved everything we had. Their main specialty was really good, which came with shrimp and pork belly as we selected. The other 3 (1 green onion, 1 mixed seafood, 1 pork with noodles) and their yakisoba were tasty as well. Between their system and the food, we see why this place is so popular. I think we spent around $50 for the 4 of us, and we left very happy!

Yelp
We had okonomiyaki just in two places this trip, but Mizuno was by far the winner. They have many types of traditional and non traditional okonomiyaki. The flavor is the best, and would recommend to over order, because you only have one chance to get your order in. Once you start eating you cannot add anymore okonomiyaki! The line does take a bit of waiting, but it is well worth the wait.

Kelly Z.

Yelp
My suggestion is to early around 5pm because we waited on line for only 30 mins. When we left the line wrapped around a few times. We got the two mini yamaimo-yaki and the yakisoba. They cook both items in front of you. This is the first time I had okonomiyaki. I think this Michelin star restaurant is very famous because they make flourless Okonomiyaki. Taste is not bad but I don't think I'll ever crave it.

Yelp
In Osaka Eat Okonomiyaki Located inside Dotonbori and you won't miss the restaurant as there is always a constant lineup outside the store. Don't be deterred by the lines as it moves so fast and the staff is really organized! I like the option of smaller sized order as I found I have a hard time to eat a whole order at other restaurant as okonomiyaki can be heavy, especially when I have multiple meals during my food crawl trip. Staff was super friendly and fluent in English. So does that make it touristy? Having food prepared in front of you does enhanced the dining experience. Maybe now I am inspired to make my own at home. (PS it is hard to find good okonomiyaki in Toronto!) Worth checking out.

Yelp
We had seen this place on TV and knew that since we were in the area we would have to check it out. Try to get there early because there is limited seating and it fills up fast! They cook everything in front of you (except the kimchi version) and while it does take a bit to finish it is quite delicious and worth the wait. All the different flavor layers and textures were very nice and it was cool to have something so flavorful in Japan. The kimchi version was our least favorite but it was still pretty darn good. I wish they put more meat inside but that's a personal opinion.

Yelp
Great place to try out if you're in the area! A lot of my friends have recommended this place, and its been a great introduction to okonomiyaki. This is the first time that I've had okonomiyaki and it was a great experience! They have a vast selection of okonomkiyaki to choose from, and from my experience, you can't really go wrong with whatever you choose. I would recommend coming here ~ 5 pm because there can be a long wait sometimes. Luckily, I was in a party of two and there were a couple of larger parties ahead of us, so we got seated right away. You get seated right in front of the chef, which is apart of the experience. After making your selection, the chef would make your okonomkiyaki in front of you (with some flare). It usually takes around 5-15 minutes depending on which one you choose. The best way that I can describe okonomkiyaki is similar to a takoyaki because of the sauce. From my experience, you're able to customize your okonomkiyaki more freely than takoyaki. I got pretty full off of one of these, but I ate a couple of hours beforehand. If you haven't had okonomkiyaki before, I would definitely recommend coming here!

Yelp
I'm generally a huge fan of okonomiyaki's in Tokyo, and always go to one okonomiyaki place whenever I'm in Japan. I wasn't fond of the items we ordered. I'm not sure if I'm graduating from okonomiyaki life or it was this place. Check out my photos to see what I got, as I can't remember. Yes, it was THAT forgettable.

Yelp
This was the last stop for our food venture in Japan. The Kobe steak was amazingly delicious. Just melted in my mouth. Okonomiyaki was good also. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with veggies and seafood.

Melody Z.

Yelp
Was here in 2014 and loved it, so came back for more okonomiyaki in 2018. Mizuno mix is a good classic Osaka version, wthe squid shrimp pork and kimchi. The Negi one is a new one for us, so we tried it. We both loved it. The negi (green onion) was nicely grilled so they were crispy. I would be interested in trying the yakisoba/Hiroshima style one. Get in line early as they have limited seating. They have English, Chinese, and Korean menus in addition to the Japanese one, which is very helpful. When you're in line, they give you a menu to look at and when you get closer to the front, they will take your order. The staff are very friendly and polite. Will be back again! Osaka is the birthplace of the okonomiyaki!
