Where to Get the Best Brunch in Puerto Rico | Condé Nast Traveler

"Set inside the ritzy Condado Vanderbilt , Ola, San Juan’s best hotel brunch, will fill you up for the rest of the day. Standouts on the bread table include guava turnovers and cheese-filled quesitos . There’s also a cheese and charcuterie station, hot cereal, and omelets made to order from fillings like bacon, sausage, and potatoes. Each month brings a new specialty station; say, a crème brûlée bar (with a choice of key lime, s'mores, carrot cake, or vanilla); a mofongo bar; and sliders like salmon, sausage, and beef." - Kathleen Squires

Reserved for Father’s Day Brunch for 12pm, but when I arrived they tried to tell us to wait on the side while they were letting in people without reservations because they were bigger groups and spoke english (We are Puertorricans). After we stood our ground and said we’d wait in the front like the people in front us (which were Americans) our the table was ready in 5 minutes. It seems they overbooked and seemed not to care enough to follow through on reservations. Really busy and overcrowded and the food was subpar. They have yet to learn the management and service from 1919, which is in the same hotel.

A delicious tuna tartare! Bartenders Daniel and Lito provided excellent service and treatment. Great drinks and atmosphere as well!

If I could give this place 10 stars I would. The service and the food are both outstanding. It’s such a great location with amazing oceanfront views and a pool lounge. We have come back here for several meals and all have been off the chart delicious! Zayra has become our favorite waitress and the manager is so nice, he comes by to make sure everything is up to Vanderbilt standards. Love this place 💕

If I could give this place 100 stars I would! Great service! We love Amanda the hostess! She went above and beyond for us! It’s my grandmas birthday and she made it very special! Brought her balloons and a handwritten card. Soooo sweet! Our waitress Glorimal was great too! We love this place!

I came here for brunch! I had an amazing experience at this spot. The views were simply breathtaking, food was scrumptious and the service was up to par! Loved it here!

Google
1 minute walk from our O:LV 55 hotel and way worth it. The entire staff from the front desk to the Bistro were completely welcoming, nice, courteous and extremely knowledgeable. The atmosphere is contemporary, bright and exceptionally clean. The food at the breakfast buffet was amazing even though we chose to order off the menu for less food. Our waitress has a few suggestions for us that made our meal perfect.

Google
Delicious food top notch service. Delicious espresso and drip coffee. We had the coconut almond french toast, the snapper sandwich, the pastilliones, and the fried fish and chips. Every dish got more and more delicious. Our server mai-ling, was awesome. Friendly and so sweet. The view is stunning from every seat. Do your selves a favor and bring your appetites !!!

Google
Wait, the staff was great. It's worth the trip. After our meal, we sat outside and lounged by the sea before our flight. The steak was great, and the drinks were as well.

Yelp
Went tot Ola with the friends and we were seated immediately. Our server was attentive but soon got busy with other tables. We didn't see him often, but it didn't interrupt our food or drinks much. Ola moved to a new menu this week so if you've never been or you are a regular try coming here again. Now on to the food. The grilled octopus was one of the best I've ever tasted. The farley risotto situation at the bottom leaves room for improvement. The textures don't read well after the grains have been sitting for more than five minutes.

Yelp
Friendly welcoming service for a non-guest. Wow to the view and the ambience. The buffets are out of this world and you will induce into a food-coma. I elected to do the steak and eggs. Every bite was a treat. So why only a 4-Star? Bougie places deserve bougie over the top service. Coffee waits made me a little sad. Perhaps serving the table with a small pot would be helpful. I shall return and hope to deliver 5-Stars. I really like the people and the vibe.

Yelp
Yes, yes, yes!!! This place is stunning! It's positioned inside the Vanderbilt hotel which is a beautiful place on its own. When you walk into the restaurant it's so clean and fresh feeling. We had reservations for brunch, I'm not sure if you can walk in, but there is tons of seating. We got an outdoor ocean table. I can't even explain how perfect of a view it was of the ocean. Staff is so nice! No communication problem, everyone spoke English. Not that this is necessary when you're in a Spanish speaking county. It was just a nice perk. The mimosas were great! I ordered the eggs Benedict. I don't think I've ever had a better eggs Benedict honestly. I'm not sure how they make the pork on bottom, but I will be dreaming about it until I come back. My partner had the steak and eggs. So so so yummy

Yelp
it's our third time at the condado vanderbilt, fancy ass great hotel. Like somewhere we've never stayed in order to "treat yourself". It really is a beautiful place, the kids love the pool so I camped myself at the bar for a couple hours, nice bar, nice breeze and like most things in this building/area, overpriced. I mean I guess 7 dollar medallas won't break the bank but a couple cocktails and you may be calling citibank for an extension. There is great service here, there are bartender and servers everywhere. There is a decent menu here but again slightly over priced, the kids got a tiny 20 dollar pizza which is really a 3 person snack or maybe a hungry man's meal. It's a beautiful spot, and once you are sitting there, you're not going to want to really leave.

Yelp
This restaurant inside the Vanderbilt hotel has a nice atmosphere overlooking the ocean. We went on a Saturday at 745pm, it was not full at all- yet the food for a table of 4 took over an hour to come out. Drinks were go at $20 each! The food was good but nothing spectacular. Maybe I was expecting more lol but the view at night - dark can't really see the view or beach.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent service and food! Beautiful views of the ocean while you dine. Outside or inside seating.

Yelp
Was here for 5 days for breakfast. View is AMAZING. Buffet is ok. Would give 3 out of 5. Hot stuff are a bit below par. Nothing very special. Sausage is a bit salty. Yogurt too sweet. Best part of buffet is pastry. If you order a la carte, now we are talking. French toast (4/5) on the sweet side. Pancake (4/5) a little dry. Egg whites frittata (5/5) should really be called salmon egg white's frittata. Decent portion of salmon. Ordered twice, first time way too salty, turns out the second cook does great. Smoked salmon Benedict (3/5) way too salty, same cook with the salty egg white frittata. Coconut lassi (5.5/5) excellent! Must try! A little creamy but not grossly creamy. Cucumber juice (4/5) similar to Citrus #1 with Pressed Juice. Service depends on the server. Can be average to excellent.

Yelp
Came down from the hotel and couldn't pass up eating here with this view around sunset. Ordered the avocado salsa and chip- very good - took the leftovers back to the room for a great snack later. The avocado salsa is mostly avocados - no heat. The salmon was delicious- crisp and flaky. The lentil stew was hearty- it had a great mix of flavors! I wasn't crazy about the flavor of the pickled topping, but the stew made up for it! Service was great- I would highly recommend coming!

Yelp
We came here for brunch and were a bit confused about the menu offerings. Originally we thought there would be a full brunch menu in addition to the brunch buffet, but it was just the buffet. The buffet itself looked...okay. To top it off, it was $60! It didn't seem worth it at all. The lunch we ordered was alright, but the saving grace for this restaurant was the ambiance created by the upscale hotel roof.

Yelp
This place is ok, it's more a place to enjoy if you are staying at the hotel itself and want to grab a quick and easy bite to eat with your family. The view is very nice and more appealing to a crowd looking for a quick cocktail and snack. The food is very average, I had the tostone soup, smash burger, guacamole, & squid. Nothing in particular really stood out about it.

Yelp
Attended Easter Brunch, our servers were attentive, a wide variety of food choices and drinks, a long with a beautiful sea view facing the sun bathing loungers and then the sea. Excellent omelet station and carving station. A wide variety of food choices for those without food restrictions including a beautiful dessert station. Limited non pork and gluten free options but I was able to enjoy an excellent omelet and fruit. Delicious Espresso, Latte, and Coffee with Foam. Those in the party that had alcohol beverages were impressed. The walk facing the ocean was beautiful for a stroll afterwards. The Valet parking was reasonable when validated by the restaurant. The Easter Bunny made an appearance which was a nice touch. The biggest disappointment was the service of the crab. It was not well cracked nor were crackers or small forks provided to obtain the meat. We sent it to the kitchen for cracking,'which resulted in shell embedded into the meat causing chunks of shell in your mouth which was very unpleasant.

Yelp
We loved it here. The fried red snapper was delightful. The margarhita pizza was delicious. The view of the ocean is spectacular and the wait staff was lovely. I can't wait to enjoy the venue again. Had I only known, I would have stayed at this hotel over the conversation center.

Yelp
Our buffet breakfast was included with the AMEX fine rewards program. They normally have an omelette station but we were able to order omelettes through the waitress. All of the food was delicious, especially the pastries. I had what I thought was going to be Chia pudding but it seemed to be Chia seeds and whipped cream. Definitely keto friendly because it had no sugar. I added some jam and other toppings from the oatmeal station. For dinner I was so excited about the octopus the picture turned out blurry. There was so much octopus for $26 I would highly recommend this dish. My husband's fillet was very small and I thought $40 was pretty overpriced. You definitely pay for the view here. The food did take forever to come out especially since there could not have been more than 10 tables occupied.

Yelp
Hola from Puerto Rico!!!!! We are here at the Ola Ocean Front Bistró. The name says it all. It's located inside the Vanderbilt Hotel. This establishment has some of the most amazing views of the ocean I've ever seen. The ambience is cool and sleek with a hint of elegance. The people are amazing as well! The food, ah the food ; it was very tasteful. I had the angus burger with fries with a fresh glass of water. I was not disappointed at all and neither was my tummy. If you stop in the island this is a highly recommend from me. * Price point is pretty high but it's worth it. Trust me! Until next time mi Amigos y Amigas. Happy eating

Yelp
Employees make the business. If it had not been for your server Miosotys, the rating would have been so much less. The buffet had a paella out in the open not covered cold and it had been picked through with no sea food. Miosotys saved the day by bringing us warm portions from the kitchen, because the new paella served was cold. The coffee was cold, again she remedied the situation by getting the kitchen to put out fresh coffee, and she then prepared for us 2 delicious cups. There was so much disappointment from our first visit, starting with the floor around our table littered with food that needed to be swept and other issues. I expected so much more from the beautiful iconic Vanderbilt Hotel. Lovely ocean view.

Yelp
Use our 100 experience credit here, the lady who serve us she is really nice. Muahroom sandwich was really good but rosemary chicken club was no good grill chicken was over cooked I mean more burned, and ocean in front of you was so chill

Yelp
Vibes are great! Nice poolside restaurant with a great ambiance! The food is pretty good and affordable too! We went as a group of 4 and spent $98 bucks! The burger was amazing!! Definitely recommend. Chicken quesadilla is an app but can easily serve as the main course! Has a bit of kick to it but it's pretty solid. The wings were excellent too! My coffee was a bit bad though. Very tart and burnt taste. Overall 9/10.

Yelp
Great spot at Condado Vanderbilt for breakfast and lunch. There's a nice bar as well. The staff is friendly. The food is always good. Buffet breakfast is only on Sunday since the pandemic. Used to be every day. Other than that it's really convenient when you're on vacation and only want to walk from your sun lounge to a table. For super relaxed people you can order lunch to be brought to your lounges. Hahaha.
google avatar

Dani S.

Yelp
Pricey! You are definitely paying for the view. Service was nice. They ran out of half of the menu items, not cool. Came here for dinner one night and got a seat outside. The view is beautiful obviously. There's a pool and a hot tub next to the outdoor patio, so that was very nice. Nice ambience. Our server was very nice! We ordered the red snapper whole fish, they fried it and seasoned it. It was good, although definitely a bit over cooked. The sides were pretty good. We had ordered 3 other items and they were out of all 3 of our other choices, really bad. Overall, nice ambience but expect to pay a high price.

Yelp
Both the breakfast one morning as well as dinner one night failed to impress here. Admittedly, the service is VERY good, befitting of the five star hotel this establishment is in. Morning buffet is ho hum, more Holiday Inn than "Top 3" San Juan hotel; at dinner only the octopus entree was a cut above the otherwise almost cafeteria-like food. In short, the wonderful location and attentive service only partially offset the very mediocre food overall. Price/quality ratio is fair at best.

Yelp
I came to Ola Ocean for my birthday because it was beach front and because it was kid-friendly. Although we were seated outdoors, we couldn't see the ocean from our seats. This seemed odd because the restaurant was practically empty. The service started off great but after waiting 30 mins for our appetizer, it became apparent the waiter had forgotten about it. He didn't admit such but instead said the kitchen was busy. Again, the restaurant was pretty empty though. The waiter also forgot the kid's drinks and took 15 minutes to bring those by. The food was decent. The kid's pizza is good but my grilled chicken wasn't anything spectacular. I did get a small cake for my birthday (even though the waitstaff thought it was my daughter's birthday) so that was nice. In summary, the place was a bit overpriced for such a mediocre experience.

Juan T.

Yelp
Decided to bring my mother and daugther for a Birthday Lunch, their bday is the same day, and since walking in we were greated with smiles and welcomes. We sat outside the enjoy the amazing day by the pool. We order drinks and were brought out fast and tasty. When we got our lunch, the portions were huge and seasoned and cooked to perfection. We were so happy with the food that even the Chef came out to se greet us. I'm putting some pics for all of you to enjoy
google avatar

Martina S.

Yelp
Miosotys was amazing! We had such a lovely time while we waited for our flight and she made our waiting experience a blast. The pictures do NOT do this place justice so I'm going to help some people out with current menus and current pics. This place is bomb. Also, the restaurant validates valet parking instead of $39.99 it's $10 with validation. Love this vibe it's amazing.
google avatar

Sean G.

Yelp
This restaurant is in a very nice hotel. Atmosphere is romantic. The food was good, Steak was a little undercooked but tender, Only reason for the 3 stars is because of the limited small menu. The octopus polenta appetizer was the best we actually ordered an extra serving after we scarfed down the first one.

Tuleen T.

Yelp
Love the service and the food Best views of the ocean Love their fresh fish and steak Perfect for a date night or hangout with the girls My favorite place in Condado!
google avatar

Matt M.

Yelp
Simply a ridiculously overpriced, overbland, uncreative menu marginally delivered by a luxury resort hotel in Condado. Certainly a lovely setting, but the reviews are profoundly overstated. If you're looking for local Puerto Rican cuisine, this is not your place. If you're looking for creative seafood fare, not your place. If you're looking to spend over $100 on two drinks and three appetizers served on the pool deck of a posh hotel, you've found your spot. Not for us. We won't be back.

Martin J.

Yelp
A good restaurant with in my opinion, a limited menu. Service was slow although not very busy.
google avatar

Lei R.

Yelp
11/10 experience. The food was amazing but our waiter, Calvin, made the experience more iconic. Super friendly, attentive and fun to chat with.

Melissa P.

Yelp
I don't know how the food is because I never got to try any. Had a 7:30 PM reservation, and showed up about 20 minutes early to have a cocktail while we waited for our table. The place was nearly empty so they went ahead and sat us at our table early. We waited at that table for TWENTY FIVE minutes. My husband couldn't even get a server to make eye contact with him to wave one over. We left and walked down the street to Sage Steak Loft where were immediately seated and absolutely spoiled by the lovely people who work there. I have to thank OLA for being so horrible. Because of your absolute lack of service, I ended up having one of the best steak dinners I've ever eaten at Sage Steak Loft.
google avatar

Eronini D.

Yelp
Beautiful view of the ocean and beach and breakfast here is . Try the French Toast or their pancakes. You'll really enjoy it. Mai-Ling the waitresses with the crazy hair fro is really nice. We used her as our waitresses every single day during breakfast.
google avatar

Ryan M.

Yelp
Food was not great and very expensive. Do not get a martini. Best thing was the salad with chicken.

Caitlin M.

Yelp
Very over priced food for the quality. I got the chicken club on rosemary bread. The chicken was rubbery. It just didn't hit the spot. Service was sparce. Our server would spend 2 seconds at our table and run off. Everything my friend wanted to order, the server seemed to disagree with and talk up other food that also wasn't great. It had a beautiful view. And the octopus was good.
google avatar

Lilly L.

Yelp
If you're staying at the CVH like we did, you may take this place for granted as it's your "pool bar" . The service is wonderful. Our waiter even came to refresh our iced waters with new ice and cups without us asking. The food is hit and miss. We had the rib sliders (well cooked but could use a sauce) and the chicken club sandwich (could've been good had the chicken not been so darn salty...it's like the cook accidentally forgot they salted the chicken and then did it again). In summary, you go for the view, can expect good service, and a hefty bill!
google avatar

Dia R.

Yelp
This place is beautiful and perfect for a evening dinner overlooking the ocean in Condado and the hotel's tranquil turquoise infinity pool. We had the Red Snapper, which was nicely flash fried and came with a delicious and fresh sofrito sauce and coconut fritters. I also ordered a side of rice and beans, which was the perfect accompaniment to the fish. My friend had the hanger steak and some truffle fries. I believe we all enjoyed our meal and was one of the best dinners we had while in San Juan!
google avatar

Marc S.

Yelp
So ridiculously over priced. Although it is the Vanderbilt they are nuts. $3.00 for cheese on my wife's $25 burger , $6 for extra crostini for the appetizer dip we ordered which only came with 5 pieces for a 4 person sized dip. There are better options for a lite dinner. So disappointed!
google avatar

Sue L.

Yelp
Disappointed in lack of awareness of food allergies and the very very slow service. Beware menu items that say Gluten free are not and the servers not educated about cross contamination. The positives are the mojitos are great and the manager was empathetic and accommodating after we brought issues to his attention. We may try another visit but will be for drinks only.
google avatar

Bre W.

Yelp
Excellent location, food, and staff. Ambiance is breathtaking. Easy to find as well. I recommend this place to everyone.
google avatar

Kira Y.

Yelp
What a beautiful and elegant atmosphere! The decorations present a modern coastal feel. The Christmas Day buffet was not super impressive. While the presentation was pretty the food lacked sophisticated flavor being just average for the price. Even though service was slow, our waitress was very nice.
google avatar

Katie D.

Yelp
Food is okay. Ate a lot of meals there while staying at the hotel. It was a bit overpriced for what you get but that's what happens at hotels in general. Recommend the quesadilla
google avatar

Brian C.

Yelp
Pretty disappointed, overall. Ordered guacamole salsa, first try had a long hair visible inside the glass it's served in. The avocados aren't prepared to order, they look to be packaged or frozen then doctored-up. The chips were terribly stale and all broken up, they also lacked any seasoning. It was nice of them to remove from my bill (the hair) but still give it a 1star for taste. They were out of the snapper so I went with the hangar steak. It was ok. Served on a bed of rice and beans with some steamed onions on top. No real pop to this dish, a spicy sauce or chimichurri would've been a great touch. $18 margarita was just ok, super sweet with a small amount of tequila, not terrible, but certainly not an $18 cocktail - no matter the venue... Josh Pinot (after they finally found it, 3/4 through my meal) wasn't the freshest and they grabbed a dripping wet plastic wine glass from the top of the dishwasher, wiped out with a cocktail napkin and served it - not exactly what I'd expect to see at the Vanderbilt hotel! No dessert or coffee offered but to be honest I couldn't wait to head out. Like I said, pretty disappointing experience and with what I read about STK, that doesn't leave us dying to stay at this property.

Karen E.

Yelp
The only reason I gave 3 stars was our server Carl. He was terrific very nice and moved the dinner along at a good pace. We ate here 2x and the first time we didn't have Carl as our server and dinner took over 2 hours for 3 people who ate salads and sandwiches. Overall the restaurant is hideously overpriced for what you get. The gem salad was tasty but a small portion for the price. The grilled burger was ordered as medium and came very overcooked, it was well done. Cheese was $3 extra, I mean really. The french fries were good and a good size. The chicken club is good and tasty and you can get fruit or a salad instead of fries. The fruit was good. The margarita pizza was terrible. It had to be the worst pizza we ever had. It had orange sauce, was it tomato, who knows it had literally no taste. It was a personal pizza size and $19. For 3 salads 2 burgers, a chicken sandwich and 3 ice teas the bill was $170. This restaurant was empty at 8pm. If this restaurant had much better food and much better service it would be packed because of the location and the view of the ocean. This place with these prices is trying to be

Yelp
Beautiful view of the ocean. I fell in love with the hotel. I will come back again for brunch
google avatar

Tara S.

Yelp
We are staying at the Vanderbilt. We ate here several times. The service was always slow and the food was mediocre for the price. The views were amazing and they have bottomless mimosas on Sundays, if you get their $45 buffet (which isn't the best). There's a lot of better restaurants for the same price that have phenomenal service and phenomenal food.
google avatar

Chavonna H.

Yelp
This was our first stop while in PR. It was walking distance from our hotel, but a reservation was still required (I was able to make one in advance). This restaurant is located inside the hotel and has great views of the ocean. The food was just ok --lacked a lot of flavor and along with the drinks, was a bit overpriced. Overall, I would only suggest coming here if you're looking to take a few pics while grabbing drinks.
google avatar

Matt M.

Yelp
Beautiful views and interesting people watching. Definitely overpriced, but what do you expect sitting beach front at the Sheraton?
google avatar

Paula B.

Yelp
Ocean views and poolside bars are great commodities of the hotel, but food is very over priced at this restaurant. Wouldn't recommend coming for breakfast unless you do the breakfast buffet and truly get your monies worth with that.
google avatar

Melanie R.

Yelp
Very pleasant experience. Located at the Coronado Vanderbilt Hotel The scenery is breath taking. Large windows give a perfect view of the pool area and Isla Verde Beach.
google avatar

Danielle L.

Yelp
Average at best - $20 for 2eggs 4 hunks of potatoes and 3 links of sausage- never again ! There are far too many choices around. Waiters acted like we were inconveniencing them when we asked for ice water. $30 for valet they sit you right in the area of the pool so there are people walking past you constantly. Kids screaming... not to mention the hour plus wait to be seated.
google avatar

Tara N.

Yelp
Except for the decor, my experience was disappointing. The menu sucks. Nothing you'd expect from a limited curated menu. They also ran out of red snapper (or so they said) and only had salmon. I opted for steak instead which came out cold and was more rare than medium rare.

Zayniha E.

Yelp
Food and service were amazing. Kinda on the pricey side but the view and ambience made it worth it.
