Old Bank Hotel

"42 unique and chic rooms await in the heart of Oxford. Parts of the hotel date to the 14th century and one can gaze out at the spires and listen to church bells, but the atmosphere is contemporary with an emphasis on food and drink and sleeping rooms with art from ownership's private collection."

Old Bank Hotel (Oxford, Oxfordshire) 4 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Oxford’s Old Bank Hotel is, to begin with, exactly what its rather understated name promises: a well-preserved 18th-century bank building, right on Oxford High Street, behind whose Georgian façade you’ll find a hotel that’s among the most stylish and the most luxurious lodgings in town." - Tablet Hotels

Old Bank Hotel Review | Hotels Above Par

"Housed in a building with roots back to the 13th century and a late-1700s Georgian façade, this 43-key, 5-star boutique hotel on High Street in central Oxford pairs historic provenance with contemporary comfort. Rooms (including a signature “The Room with The View” that opens onto a private terrace) offer expansive sights over Radcliffe Camera, Hawksmoor’s Quadrangle towers, All Souls College and Carfax Tower, while interiors contrast classic exterior architecture with modern touches such as Carrara-marble bathrooms, steam-demisting mirrors, rain showers and neutral greys with red-accent linens. The owner’s private contemporary-art collection is displayed throughout public spaces and rooms, service includes a personal pre-arrival courtesy call and evening turn-down with homemade shortbread, and practical amenities cover air conditioning, in-room coffee/tea, complimentary parking, bike loans, electric-car chargers and room service—making it an art-forward, well-located base for exploring the city."

Old Bank Hotel | Best places to stay in Oxford |

"Slap bang in the centre of Oxford, on the buzzy High Street, the Old Bank is an absolute gem – a former Barclays Bank converted into a 42-room luxury boutique hotel. The spacious, light rooms, lively Quod restaurant and contemporary art on the walls are all winning points, but the real X-factor is the location; most of Oxford’s highlights – the Bodleian, Ashmolean and the world-famous colleges are all just outside the door. Once you’ve seen the sights, retire to the Old Bank’s wonderful library lounge, which opens out onto the pretty Italianate terrace. " - Annabelle Thorpe

We recently stayed in the Room with a View in this hotel for our sons graduation. It is truly lives up to its name with a really jaw dropping view. It is really incredible to go to sleep and wake up to the view from the room over the most iconic buildings in Oxford. It has an amazing terrace and the whole room is thought out very well and feels very cozy. The artwork throughout the hotel is very special and creates a nice ambience.||The service was very warm and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. ||We ate in the Quod for breakfast lunch and dinner and the service and food (gourmet pub food) was very good and it had a very nice lively ambience at dinner and was a pleasant place to sit looking out onto the High Street and the beautiful buildings opposite whilst enjoying a relaxing breakfast. ||All in all a really great place to stay in Oxford, with some of the most special views imaginable.

We are so glad we chose to stay at the Old Bank Hotel for our visit to Oxford! From the moment we checked in to the end of our stay all the staff we encountered were friendly, helpful and welcoming. Our room, looking out across High Street to the beautiful university church across the road, provided a wonderful introduction to this magnificent city. The room was large, beautifully furnished and full of special touches like a Nespresso coffee machine with fresh milk in the mini-frig, delicious cookies every day, a REALLY comfortable bed and thick plush bathrobes. We didn't eat in the restaurant though it is clearly popular. We did have a cocktail which was pretty pricey, though. The hotel's central location made it a perfect base for exploring Oxford easily on foot. Definitely 5 Stars based on our experience.

One of the best hotels ever! We travel frequently across the UK and have stayed in lots of hotels during this time. The room was so comfortable and pristine. By far one of the best nights sleep I have had in a long time. The front desk manager Grace was so helpful and accommodating! We received a lovely card and chocolates on arrival. Thank you! The food in the restaurant is on another level, it was beautiful as was the wide wine selection. We will without doubt be returning to this beautiful hotel in the very near future. Thank you Les Burgess

Had the junior suite with nice views facing the beautiful buildings of Oxford. Bed was comfortable and staff were helpful. (Of course Oxford is heavily touristed - but that is expected). However, we also expected to have a better selection of movies and television for the near £1000 per night for the room. Harry Potter was shown on the roster of movies on the ITV station but TV indicated that the Aerial connection could not be made. Staff was kind enough to come help figure it out but couldn't. Also the room needed some eating space for in room dining, as this was lacking. The only such table available had a plate of fruit and a bottle of water w/2 drinking glasses on it (A nice though by the way - and much appreciated). Still, it was not enough for in-room dining. Bathroom could benefit from a fan, and could be better cleaned as there was residue and crud in the bottom of the shower glass. The Quod was a nice dining space, but the exposed un-skinned deer leg/thigh at the center of the bar, hoof sticking up, was unappetizing for this American, but perhaps that is just a cultural thing. Could also be seen as quaint. Again, I'm just not used to that.||It was nice to have a safe in the room, but it was also a very small safe, so a laptop could not be placed in there. Also, it malfunctioned and needed help to get it working. But alas, after many attempts, I was able to get it working. It was quite a flimsy safe, and I'd expect better from such a costly place. Overall, stay was good.

A wonderful experience. The rooms were well-appointed and had everything we needed, including Molton Brown products, a refrigerator, and a large-screen, adjustable TV. The Quod was a lovely dining experience. Highly recommended and would stay there again in Oxford. The staff are accommodating and friendly

Wish we could have booked this hotel in every city that we visited. What a gem! Provided an actual parking lot, friendly service, and the room was perfect! Perfect views, fresh fruit upon arrival, and the restaurant downstairs is yummy! I can’t rave enough - stay here!

Great stay in a hotel with truly elevated service. All the finer touches brought a sense of regal excellence. Great access to the University of Oxford. Dining in the hotel was exceptional as well. Will definitely stay here again.

Yelp
This hotel is lovely, from the staff to the food to the rooms. The holiday decor is beautiful and adds a mystical element. The rooms are cozy and clean with a great mini bar selection. Yelp
AMAZING hotel! Where do I start?!? The food at the dining room was delicious. Breakfast and dinner. YUM! Loved the avocado on the crusty bread and poached egg for breakfast. And then the room!! The bed was divine ... soooo comfy. The view of the neighboring colleges was gorgeous. And, the shower was the BEST I've ever used. Heated bathroom floor and towel rack. Great shower head with good water pressure with great smelling soap. Wish I could've stayed more than one night!

Yelp
If you will be staying in Oxford, I can recommend the Old Bank Hotel. While it is, indeed, OLD, it is extremely comfortable, quiet, spotlessly clean and operated by a wonderful staff of young people dedicated to your comfort and satisfaction. It is well located on the main drag in Oxford and a very short walk from shopping, restaurants and, of course, the various segments of Oxford University. My sole complaint is applicable throughout Europe. These people do NOT understand the concept of a shower. Showers are generally afterthoughts in Europe. The tub enclosures for showering are PARTIAL, covering no more and usually less than 50% of the side of the tub. Water goes everywhere. I also suggest that Old Bank install tub/shower grab bars for customer safety.

Yelp
A very nice old building with a boutique charme to it. Once a bank (hence the name) this place is located right in the center of Oxford, close to pretty much everything. The rooms are spacious, the bathroom as well - just that omnipresent carpeting is something I wouldn't mind to go ;-) We stayed here for the first time - usually we do the Malmaison, but this is a good alternative - though pricey. Speaking of pricey - a two person breakfast buffet for 41.... is... shocking. and the Restaurant is open for hotel guests from 7 am on.

Yelp
Great place, wonderful 'old world' charm (pun intended) Stayed here for a few days last fall and its location, short walk to everything in town, is tough to beat. Breakfast was solid and the bar mixed up some stiff drinks upon request. Only downside is that it is small, and noise can carry so its probably not the place to host a 'raging kegger.' Lots of parents staying here when they come up to visit the kids at university as well.

Yelp
I wish I could take this hotel and breed it and spread it's offspring all over the world. The staff is excellent and the rooms - for the building they are in- are spacious and inviting. You get what you pay for with this hotel and I can't say a bad thing about them. All service staff are professional and courteous and will help you in any way that they can.

Yelp
The Old Bank Hotel in Oxford is undoubtedly in a great location right in the centre. The rooms are spacious and modern, and feature huge double beds, a CD player with a great speaker system, and an excellent bathroom with bath and shower. However, it is not very cheap, and you will be disappointed to find that despite the £100 per night, breakfast is not included. While there is a Quod restaurant on the ground floor, it seems that the hotel has not made the effort to come to some kind of arrangement, whereby guests could enjoy a free or even reduced breakfast here. If you are going to spend that much on a stay in Oxford, go for the Randolph or the Eastgate instead.

Yelp
Best place to stay in Oxford. The staff really works to meet your needs. The cafe and setting is quite artistic.

Yelp
Quite simply, the BEST place to stay in Oxford. I second the many positive things said about this hotel, and I only want to emphasize two: First, the free car parking in the back is worth every pence we paid for this pricey hotel. Driving and parking would otherwise have been a complete nightmare, and the directions on the hotel's website brought us directly where we needed to go (driving from Bath). What a relief! Second, the rooms are not only extremely comfortable, but they're literally smack dab in the middle of town. Our room looked directly out on the 14th century University Cathedral and the Radcliffe Camera. We were in the very center of everything Oxford--just perfect. While the prices in the Quod restaurant were not reflected in the quality of the service or food (for non-complimentary breakfast, we got one small cup of coffee, no refills, and still an inflated bill), the price of the hotel was well worth the incredible convenience and middle-of-it-all feel.

Michael H.

Yelp
Indeed, this used to be a branch of Barclays Bank, hence the name. I don't stay in the hotel but have dined and drank here and find it boring. In an attempt to be chic the architects have fragmented the dining/drinking space and I keep getting lost. It was more useful as a bank.

Yelp
The Old Bank hotel has a remarkable location, right in the middle of the High St, just adjacent to the University Examination Schools. The hotel rooms are excellent, as is the food in the attached restaraunt. Which is as you would expect for the amount of money you are paying, but the real bonus is the fact that most of the major tourist attractions - Magdalen College, the Exam Schools, Queens College, the Botanical Gardens, the City Centre, Radcliffe Camera, Bodliean Lilbrary, All Souls College, Magdalen Bridge and the Sheldonian Theatre are within 5-10 mins walk. An excellent choice if you can afford their rates!

Yelp
I stayed here in a junior suite. Great location, great service but not inexpensive.

Qype User (Chapma…)

Yelp
With out question the best hotel i have stayed in, the Staff were superb, nothing, was too much trouble, i was even given a birthday card on arrival. The rooms were spacious comfy and the whole place has just the right atmosphere. the Quod restaurant is again superb top food in a relaxed and comfy atmosphere. Tie in the location and you have the fullpackage.

Yelp
This is the place to stay in Oxford. The location is excellent, the rooms are contemporary and bright, the staff is attentive, and the Quod restaurant downstairs makes everything perfect. Our rate includes breakfast and free wifi. Having stayed here on three separate occasions in the last year I can confidently say this is the best choice. (Note that we have also stayed twice at the Randolph which also boasts location, but has poor quality service, inconsistent wifi, a funny smell, and dated rooms.) If you can get a reservation at the Old Bank, you will be very pleased. This is your first choice in Oxford.

Yelp
excellent rooms, excellent food location is really great for doing anything in Oxford staff very helpful worth the money (as opposed to the Randolph) only flaw was sketchy wi-fi internet in rooms

Jane J.

Yelp
Absolutely fabulous hotel - SO much better than the Randolph (sorry Randolph). Great rooms, fab staff and the restaurant serves great food. Free parking an real bonus (so rare in Oxford) - although mind how you enter it - it is SO narrow!!

Yelp
good hotel with a few issues.. well located.. but 1. cheap towels and pillows - your expensive- get this right... 2. not having a real lobby to wait and meet people is a drawback 3. get non dairy creamer -- its silly to have to call the desk every time you need milk.. they have extended date creamers too!! 4.more shampoos and bath products.. the ones you give are tiny-- your british --splurge on this!!! 5. include breakfast.. the randolph does this so well you need to compete.!!
