"On the way back to the cabin, we picked up dinner from the Old Country Coffee Shop & Diner, grabbing an only-at-a-diner combo of carne asada and homemade pie. The stop was also a friendly reminder that we were close to Hollywood after all, as it served as a filming location for the TV show Homecoming."

BEST COUNTRY FRIED STEAK!! Place has some hard parking but it's worth it. Service was fast and amazing. Ordered a country fried steak with a side of biscuits and gravy. Biscuits and gravy was absolutely delicious, light, and fluffy. Country fried steak was best I ever had, it was nice and crispy yet melted in your mouth. Amazing prices too.

After spending a night in Big Bear, we made our way downhill and stumbled upon a charming local American breakfast spot. The bar table, adorned with various decorations, added a cozy touch to the atmosphere. I ordered their 4-egg omelette with avocado, tomato, and mushroom. While the omelette itself was just okay, the sides truly stood out! We decided to upgrade the toast to a half-size biscuit and gravy for just $1.25—and it was the perfect pairing! Before heading out, we grabbed a large hot chocolate to-go. It was rich and delicious, and another customer even complimented it, calling it the best hot chocolate in town. Definitely a must-try!

A quaint small restaurant with only one "run-ragged" waiter. Wished I took pictures, they give you plentiful portions, but breakfast dishes were so-so. We ordered "take out", and the biscuits and gravy was not as "yummy" as reviews stated. They do give you ALOT of gravy. The avocado "benny" was ok, but the poached egg was "I don't know what it was" egg. It just sat on top like a melted ball. I barely tasted the yoke. Was there one? Hashed browns were kind of cooked like melted potatoes. Not quite hash browns, not mashed potatoes. Just not flavorful. No need to go on. I gave it a high 4-star rating because the "only" waiter was working his butt off.

Is there such a thing as too much food?🤣 large portions, good prices, and old time local atmosphere. Waiters are friendly, service is quick. Fun place!

Google
Really liked this little diner. Went for breakfast, the line cook was super impressive at putting out food to order. Food was good, friendly server, liked the vibe of the place. Went away happy with full tummies and great overall experience.

Google
Cute and quaint Mexican-American food diner. I got the Mexican scramble w half beans half breakfast potatoes. Beans could’ve used a little more salt or flavor but were still good w the rest of my food. No outdoor dining but there was a table outside for ppl to eat at if they order to-go (as in, no waiter service if you’re seated outside)

Google
Family run business right off the highway leading to Big Bear. Huge portions, reasonable prices! Very friendly staff. Be expected to wait at busy times, but the food is worth it! The kitchen staff is very efficient at cranking out food quickly!

After eating here and several other places recently, I may need to consider lowering some. I ordered a lot as I knew I would likely not eat until the next day. Sasha recommended a half order of biscuits and gravy. Wow. They were delicious. Everything was cooked as I wanted. Peach pie for dessert was also delicious.

Donna M.

Yelp
The service was truly amazing. We chose the Mexican menu items and everything was delicious. The restaurant is small however we sat at the counter which was still very comfortable. The only drawback was there were so many choices on the menus it was difficult to decide. If you are in the area, be sure to stop here for a delicious meal.

Yelp
I don't go to many diners because the food makes me sick more often than not. This place was great! The service was great, the place was clean, and my food was cooked perfectly. Honestly, they won a little of my heart with how crispy they made the hashbrowns. To every other diner out there, take a lesson from them on what customers should receive when they ask for crispy! I got the Polish Sausage and Eggs plate with a pancake and my guy got the Polish Sausage, Ham, Tomato and Mushroom Omelette (minus the tomato). We both loved our breakfasts and I didn't get sick at all from it! The hashbrowns were definitely my favorite part, but their in-house fruit syrup was really good on the pancake. It wasn't overly sweet at all, thankfully. Definitely one of, if not the, best diner I've been to!

Brooke L.

Yelp
Adorable spot, like an old school Waffle House. Food is really good coffee was good even though just regular coffee but they have flavors. We got the biggest plate of biscuits and gravy and a small bowl of soup which ended up being gargantuan. We are full by two people and the bill is only $13! I highly recommend this place when you're driving through. It looks like it's not gonna be too good but it really is and it's very cute inside it's definitely one of those vibe Locations to check out.

Yelp
A go-to in the Lake Arrowhead region, stop by for all day breakfast and all the classic diner options. It's a small diner but big on charm. Love the round, vinyl seats along the counter, and you've got a clear view of the cooks in action. I got the Two + Two + Two: 2 scrambled eggs, 2 strips of bacon, and a 2 pancakes. My husband opted for the Country Fried Steak and Eggs breakfast with shredded hash browns. It wasn't anything fancy, but it was pretty tasty. The prices are really great, too. I can't remember if it was a boysenberry syrup, but give their in-house fruit syrup a try. There's a small parking lot, otherwise find street parking. 3% credit card surcharge on all bills (not on tips).

Rick H.

Yelp
Staying in Lake Arrowhead a couple days and used Yelp to help find good places to eat. That said, Old Country Coffee Shop popped up as a local, established, family run joint with good food and I'll be damned if it was just that! Parking is tight but once you're in you know you made a good choice. Set up like a classic coffee shop - counter service, heavy coffee mugs, the cooks slinging hash out in the open, booths line the walls, big windows so you can watch everyday life passing by, and you guessed it - Great Food! I had the Machaca breakfast - scrambled eggs, machaca, onions, green peepers served with potatoes and pinto beans and your choice of tortillas. A very generous portion I might add. The wife had a veggie omelette, a side of bacon, and a half order of biscuits and gravy. I like to use B&G as a measure of a good breakfast place and oh my was it good. The gravy was creamy, not greasy, imparted a flavor that I can't quite put my finger on but was savory and worked perfectly with the fresh baked, pillowy soft biscuit.....maybe the best I've ever had! By the way, clearly a family restaurant, all working together, each playing a pivotal role in the operation, delivering on a level of kindness and service that makes you feel how much they appreciate you, the customer. I would eat here everyday if I lived up here. Oh, and the restrooms were clean, another sign of owners who care.

Yelp
Great food and amazing staff!! We have been here several times and every thing we have tried is cooked to perfection!

Charles M.

Yelp
You can't fake a great diner and Old Country Coffee Shop is the real deal!! All day breakfast was the right move even at prime "lunch time" eating hour. I got the Country Fried Steak and Eggs. The gravy was toooo tasty!! And the pancakes are hyped for a reason! They're on the "cakey" side of pancake but delicious. Diner in the mountains? I'm all about that!

Mark G.

Yelp
I love coming to this place. People here are friendly and the food is good. This morning I had the country breakfast and coffee. The biscuits and gravy are really good too.. The bacon is cooked perfectly everytime.. Then to top it off with a hot cup of coffee.. Thank You for a great start to this Tuesday.,

Kathy S.

Yelp
Definitely a very memorable meal here! The food is so hardy and homey. We loved everything we ordered! -Country fried steak: everything was cooked to perfection and nothing was super greasy. The hash brown was crunchy but also starchy. The fried steak has a great flavor and it wasn't too salty. -French toast (1/2 stack): tastes homemade and delicious! No need to say more -nachos: this is one large plate of nachos but oh so good. There's refried beans, melted cheese, and shredded chicken (for $1.75 more). It comes with a side of guacamole, salsa, and sour cream! Get this!! Service was quickly and friendly! We'd definitely come back to try other dishes. The salads also looked amazing. Dessert menu was enticing but we were too full. Next time!

Jennifer R.

Yelp
This place feels like such a mom-and-pops diner. We came in twice while on our trip and both our servers were great. I LOVED their home potatoes and hot chocolate.

Thomas P.

Yelp
There isn't much I can say beyond my 5-Star review of this place. The breakfast was perfect, the service was friendly, and the portions were mighty. I absolutely love a place that matches its prices to the portions. This cozy diner is nestled right next to the highway exchange, so it is perfect for those staying in Running springs or just passing through. We ordered the French toast (with a recommendation of using their boysenberry syrup, which is fantastic), along with some biscuits and gravy. This place is an absolute gem, and a must have when in Running Springs.

Jenny D.

Yelp
My food was devoured in less than 60 seconds haha. I have zero photos of my meal bc it was inhaled with gusto. I had pancakes, eggs, bacon, and hasbrowns with my bestie. Everything we devoured was sinful. We sat at the dining bar and were welcomed with outstanding service, friendly smiles, and conversation. So grateful we stopped in and stumbled upon this coffee shop. The ambiance is clean and it's busy. If you're in town, looking for a sit down breakfast that's tasty and affordable, look no further. You've found an amazing diner that serves a mean cup of Joe with the best pancakes.

Larissa E.

Yelp
friendly service and yummy food. It could potentially use a "facelift" but it has a nice old-time, small-town restaurant vibe. Their machaca is bomb. They could switch to a better, crispier, more flavorful, french fry.

Cristian J.

Yelp
Wow. First of all the coffee was amazing. Top tier. The bacon was such good quality, fresh potatoes, the pancakes were soft fluffy and tasty. The service was amazing. She checked up on us frequently even though they were extremely busy. I wish this place was closer to home. HIGHLY recommend for breakfast if you're staying in the area, why would you go anywhere else?

Jocelyn R.

Yelp
Would recommend getting here early because it is a small place so they don't have a lot of tables but it's definitely worth the wait. The servers are super attentive and quick. Food was good and I like the fact that they offer 1 pancake because I get full easily but sometimes I want something sweet while I eat but can't eat a stack of pancakes.

Irma D.

Yelp
This is a gem. Amazing food, great service, and cozy. We enjoyed the food soulfully.

Beth S.

Yelp
This is a family run, little diner/coffee shop that has truly lasted through the decades. I give them a 10/10 for excellent, friendly customer service. The place appeared neat and orderly as well. It is quite small, but comfortable. I was quite impressed that the staff was so engaging. I chose a small chicken taco that came with beans and rice. The rice was good, as was the beans. The chicken was not great though and was rather dry. I noticed (too late) that they had quite a variety of pies. I certainly would have chosen the Forest Berry slice rather than my taco plate. Oh well. I am sure this place is busy during snow season, being so tiny. The family did great and I am glad that we stopped in for a quick bite.

Armin A.

Yelp
We had to leave after 3 minutes of our arrival because the servers attitude was very impolite and unkind. Our small service dog was under the table the whole time and they kept bothering us and telling us that should keep him there even though we told them that's exactly what we are doing. The servers were rude and weren't welcoming. I'm posting this to let the owner and who ever is trying to take their service animal here know that we had a horrible experience.

Chelsea B.

Yelp
Best country fried steak I've ever had! It was flavorful, the crust had an amazing texture, meat was high quality. The eggs were cooked to perfection and the country potatoes complimented everything. The interior is like a 50s diner where you can see the chef cooking across from the long countertop top. The tables and chairs had the vintage formica. The staff was welcoming and quick. I would come here again. Highly recommend for great food and if you like nostalgic Americana diners

Michael E.

Yelp
Great old school diner with an ambiance of warmth. Service is fast, efficient and accurate. I had the Country Omelet, hash browns extra crispy and coffee. Really nice coffee, omelette was huge! Generous portions, especially of the avocado. Flavors of sausage, bacon, mushrooms and tomatoes were an awesome mix!

Olie G.

Yelp
This place was so good, priced right and great service! We stopped by for breakfast and had the French toast, the machaca and the patty breakfast. Would recommend and would def come back!

Mariloly M.

Yelp
Came to have brunch at old country coffee shop. The place is very cozy and clean. The service was outstanding. The food tasted like it was made by grandma , it was just delicious. Not like your typical chained breakfast places.

Mina L.

Yelp
It's my first visit to Big Bear and I'm very happy that I found this delicious coffee shop diner. Customer service is great. The food is delicious and I will definitely come back and bring my friends and family here.

Malia T.

Yelp
All food is amazing! New York steak and eggs cooked to perfection! Pancakes are to die for.

Jennifer H.

Yelp
This place has got the feel of an old time diner that locals frequent and become friends with the owners and workers. They have a pretty small parking lot considering they share it with some other stores next door, and a pretty small dining area. I think their open kitchen is pretty cool - You can watch the chef cook if you eat in their bar-like area. Their menu surprised me - it's extensive for a diner. There's several pages consisting for soups, sandwiches, burgers, entrees, vegetarian options, breakfast...I'm sure everyone in your group can find something. I opted for a bowl of their soup of the day along with a turkey sandwich. I got their Beef Barley soup which was hearty, hot, and not very salty. It was perfect for a 30 degree day! Their sandwich was standard - Turkey, tomatoes, I don't remember if there was cheese on it, but it was served on white bread. This was your standard sandwich, probably one my mom would have made back when I was in elementary school. My husband got a sandwich (forgot which one) but he got the wrong one. Instead of sending it back he ate it, but it wasn't very good. There was bacon in it, and overall it was too greasy and gave him an upset stomach. Parking could be challenging if it's busy as they share a lot with neighboring specialty stores.

Thomas K.

Yelp
Big size portions, great taste, fast service and reasonably priced! This is best place to eat around the area and a local favorite.

Tony K.

Yelp
Food was not great. Especially steak. They completely forgot to bring food to my wife. After several times to attempt to remind they told us they taking care of other customers that came after us. After waiting 1 hr the waiter finally brought the food that he apologized and said he will charge for but that was completely different dish that my wife ordered.

Helen C.

Yelp
A perfect spot to get breakfast! The breakfast burrito is delicious!! Don't forget to try the pancakes too!! You won't be disappointed and the staff is super friendly and attentive. You won't regret eating here!

Vivian S.

Yelp
A few mistakes I can forgive but my overall experience here was a disaster. They had first messed up our drink orders, which they did fix. Didn't get creamer for our coffee for a while. I asked for sunny side eggs and received over hard. Took 15 minutes for a coffee refill. Biscuits and gravy are a hard pass. The server hardly checked on us which is a concern since it's a small diner. I would choose a different diner.

Chelsea C.

Yelp
What an excellent diner breakfast experience!! Sat at the bar and watched the cook own that grill. We had the country breakfast(s). The only complaint was the ham was just a lil bit dry, but the Menudo was delicious!!!! Hash browns were crispy, as was the bacon. The biscuits and gravy were THE SH*T!! Light fluffy biscuits and hearty gravy. A must try. Eggs perfectly cooked. Blueberry short stack has plenty of blueberries and two kinds of syrup to chose from. Excellent find!

Rebecca T.

Yelp
Must go to when visiting Big Bear! My family and I have only gone for breakfast but we decided to go for dinner and it was the best decision.I had the teriyaki mushroom burger and I couldn't put it down. It was so juiced and flavorful. My husband shad the club sandwich and said was really good but that my burger looked and tasted so good! We also had a Oreo shake that was tasty as well! They also are family owned, very welcoming and nice! Ale was our server and she was so sweet and accommodating. We will definitely be coming back!

Joan T.

Yelp
It was our first time here. Friendly hostess, service was great. Food was good too. Will have to come back later for dinner.

Diane M.

Yelp
Best on the mountainCant say enough about the staff & how they truly strive to please their customers

Ellie R.

Yelp
*Local review* While breakfast has always been great, I am now iffy about the dinner/ lunch items. This time I placed an order to go: 1 full order of buffalo hot wings (I almost wish I got a picture of them before I threw them in the garbage). Wings were DRY. I'm talking just fried chicken, no sauce, no flavor, and after 2 bones splitting in my mouth.. Byeee. I also ordered the Grilled chicken sandwich with Swiss cheese and fries. Edible sandwhich, lazily put together, soggy bun, nothing special. Hoping the few mountain restaurants we have here step their game up just a tad.

Irajarirod R.

Yelp
Perfect diner food! Called in around 8pm on a Saturday night. The employee who answered the phone was super kind, patient, and professional! Once arrived, the waitresses were just the same. Their customer service was amazing, which always makes the experience far more pleasant. Once we got back to our weekend cabin, the food was still warm. The burgers and sides were perfection. They gave us plenty of condiments and napkins, which says a lot about an establishment and how they treat their customers. I will definitely be back! Keep up the great work!

Gina J.

Yelp
After spending time exerting a ton of energy trudging through snow, you tend to work up an appetite. We were scoping for a place to eat on a Sunday and were surprised to see how many businesses were closed. Luckily, we were able to get in to this diner. It's a small place with only a few booths and some counter seating. Folks are very friendly and super quick and efficient. Our gang got the French toast, pancakes, and biscuits and gravy. All. Were. Great. Truly, some of the best biscuits and gravy ever. They also have a fun blackberry syrup if you wanna be adventurous with your griddled treats.

Rana F.

Yelp
I expected this place to be a good experience but unfortunately it wasn't. I came here with my family of 10. We waited about 20 mins and were seated. We sat in two booths. It's a small cozy place. Smells like ketchup and maple syrup as soon as you walk in. Love it. Screams great breakfast joint. So we sit down and we're greeted by an older lady who immediately asked us if we were ready to order before we even looked at the menus. So we said we needed a couple more mins. A younger girl with gold hoops returns to take our order. Not very friendly. Hardly cracked a smile. Didn't bring a share plate for our shared entree. Had to get up and track her down for one eventually she brought it. She eventually checked in on us a couple times towards the end of our meal. The other waiters were very generous with coffee refills that was a huge plus for me bc I love my coffee and they had a pretty decent house coffee! I ordered the porterhouse and eggs medium rare. Received it well done. Zero pink. Over easy eggs. Came dry. Hash browns extra crispy. Not crispy at all. The pancakes were delicious and they're pretty big. I ordered one for my toddler with a scrambled egg. Wasnt horrible but wasn't the best either. I'm indifferent and honestly don't know if I would give this place another try

Michael G.

Yelp
Coming from LA and took a trip to big bear/lake Arrowhead. This place is fantastic. Service is top tier, food is delicious, and it came out pretty quick. Coming from LA where it's crowded everywhere this place really gives off that cozy feeling that we lack over there. I would come here everyday if I didn't live far!

Denise A.

Yelp
We live locally and this is our go to when we aren't up to cooking. Food is always good, never disappointed. Our grandson and college buddies love it also. We have to eat at least one meal there when they come to visit.

Paul R.

Yelp
Best Hot Chocolate in the area! Overall, Old Country Coffee Shop & Diner is a charming spot with great coffee and a diverse menu that caters to different tastes. It's a delightful place to enjoy a cozy meal or grab a cup of joe, and despite a few minor shortcomings, I would definitely recommend it to those looking for a taste of nostalgia and a satisfying meal. I always get the porkchops :)

Bethany I.

Yelp
Great stop, great food! Definitely the best in running spring's. Been there for ages. There's a wide variety of food and everything is great! I definitely recommend the Mexican flare. I had the taco salad with shredded beef that was juicy and satisfying. Kids had a corn dog and waffle. They loved it. Portions are perfect. I would definitely go back and try their sandwiches and enchiladas that looked amazing.

Genesis V.

Yelp
We are new to the mountain old country has Great breakfast food good menudo !!!! Fast and friendly

Brian T.

Yelp
My wife and I were looking for a decent breakfast place when we came upon Old Country. The place has been around a bit and has an old school diner vibe with booths and a front counter. The chef was busy on the grill which is in front of the counter seats. If you are looking for iHop then this place is not for you. If you want charm and character, then this place is perfect. The wait staff was very friendly and efficient. Our cups were never empty and they checked on us as needed. I had the French toast combo and my wife had two eggs with polish sausage. Both meals were perfectly cooked and delicious. I really enjoyed the French toast that was covered in cinnamon and powdered sugar. Next time we pass though Running Springs we will definitely be back. I recommend you stop here too.

Laura M.

Yelp
I wish I had taken pics of the delicious food!! We got hot turkey with mashed potatoes, salad, a huge bacon burger with fries and huevos rancheros. Everything was amazing. Service was fantastic as well. We stop at this place every time we go to Lake Arrowhead/Big Bear and we are always glad we did. Yummy!!!

Tony C.

Yelp
Stopped here on a whim. Not only was the food great, but the service was excellent. I highly recommend checking this place out.

Cindy E.

Yelp
The server was kind however we felt rushed for no reason. We weren't even half way in our food and she just dropped off the check, what if we wanted dessert? The food was ok but what really killed my appetite was the chef cooking. He was cross contaminating didn't clean or wash his hands. I saw him step out the kitchen, walk up to a table and pull out cash from his pocket then went straight back to the kitchen touching the food. Will not return!

Snow F.

Yelp
Definitely Recommend this place! Yummy Food, Especially The Breakfast. & Their Customer Service Is Great!

Perla G.

Yelp
The steak was tender and the eggs were perfectly runny. Both plates had good seasoning. The restaurant and restroom were both clean. Parking is limited but the food and service is worth trying them out. Would go back and try out different plates. On a side note, they have 2 large menus, 1 is strictly breakfast and the other lunch and dinner. Breakfast is served all day if you want one later in the day.

Ron R.

Yelp
I RARELY rate something 5 stars but this place, THIS PLACE, did it. This is a place that is a little hard to find if your not looking because the directions take you somewhere else and you pass right by it but once we got here it looked like an old country type of diner, hence the name, Old Country. When we walked in the place looked very clean it has alot of vintage posters on the wall. I started with a cup of coffee and the coffee was made fresh and very heart warming. If you drink your coffee black, like sometimes I do, it is very delicious. I then ordered a half order of biscuits & gravy and a Chili Verde Huevos Ranchero, which is green chilies, chicken chunks, hash Browns, rice, 2 over easy eggs & 3 corn or flour tortillas with a little cup of salsa. The pictures of this food do know justice to how PHENOMENAL this food really is. First let's start with the biscuits & gravy, I am from Michigan and I have NEVER had Biscuits & Gravy this good before and we supposedly have the best Biscuits and Gravy but not no more, they have the BEST biscuits & gravy i have EVER had in my entire life, no one even compares close to this that I can think of, the biscuit itself was fresh, soft and was an EPIC proportion for only a half order, the gravy was home made and I was told they use a HUGE pot, bigger than a Turkey ot and 1/4 of the pot is full of breakfast sausage before even adding any other ingredients. I would come here just for the biscuits and gravy but.....hold on..... there is a whole other plate of food to review so don't leave yet. Now let's get to the Chili Verde plate (too long to type again), the chili Verde itself is so delicious I could just straight up drink it like water and the meat chunks fall apart as soon as you touch them with your fork, they practically melt in your mouth, and the eggs and rice are great as well BUT when added with the tortilla and salsa and made into a Taco, it just gets 50x better. Everything was put together well and the workers here are very courteous, verily nice and the sweetest people you will ever meet. If you ever decide to come to Southern California, wherever you may be from, try this breakfast place and you WONT be disappointed.
