"An Italian immigrant to Memphis, Domenico Canale established food wholesaler D. Canale & Co. in 1866, selling, among other things, a whiskey he named Old Dominick and a novel bourbon-based cordial called the Dominick Toddy. He passed away in 1919, just three days before the ratification of Prohibition, but his name lives on at Old Dominick Distillery, which is run by his great-great-grandchildren. The state-of-the-art distillery makes spirits like vodka, gin, and Canale’s signature Dominick Toddy, and offers tours, tastings, live musical performances in the barrel room, and a fine-dining restaurant and craft cocktail bar called the Gray Canary."

This distillery has great cocktails at their bar! Unfortunately, they recently changed their Happy Hour hours to only be on Thursdays, instead of every weekday (as is reflected on their website currently). I wish this would have been made known to me prior to have making plans with a group to go there. Their Happy Hour is a fantastic deal and is worthy of attention. Please make consistent your website and in store policy for Happy Hour, as it is currently misleading to customers.

I gave it 5 stars because I can't give it 6. We did the tour, Keith was our guide, he was just awesome, he knew his stuff, he was funny, polite, informative and someone I could be friends with. Afterwards, at the tasting, we indulged in a few other products, which we subsequently purchased. If you are in Memphis, even if you are only passing through, stop in, do the tour, buy stuff and tell Keith the two Aussies say hi.

Google
It’s a beautiful distillery. The staff is amazing and u can tell they truly care. They have a wonderful bar and it reminds me a a major market hangout. Memphis needed a place like this.

Google
We are doing the Tennessee whiskey trail , so had to stop in while in Memphis. Bartenders were great nice atmosphere, tours are available but we opted just for a flight since the last one had already started. Only con was they were out of poker chips. Was promised they would mail out so I will check in a few weeks.

Google
Great distillery! Plenty of seating with TV’s by the bar area to watch the game as you enjoy a nice cocktail or pour. Friendly staff with knowledge on the products that are offered. Great atmosphere to have a good time with friends and family. Thank you for the great whiskey and service 👌🏼

Google
We did the distillery tour a few days ago. It was a lot of fun and interesting. With a very nice tasting at the end. Our tour guide, JJ, was very personable and knowledgeable about the whole process. He kept the group engaged and entertained the whole tour. If you are visiting Memphis, go have some fried chicken at Gus's across the street, then do the distillery tour or vice versa 🤔

Google
Really nice bourbon drinks, had the old-fashioned. Made to perfection. Also tried a whiskey sour. Love the decorhere, great vibe.

Google
Never been to Memphis but had two days to see what it was all about. Found this gem while hunting around things to do downtown. You will not be disappointed. I can't speak on the tour but I can on the cocktails and bar. The Black Rose and Elvis Pick were our favorites but everything we tried was great! We liked it so much the first night we came back our second day too. The bartender, (I apologize I didn't get his name but think it may have been robert?) Mustache on point, was awesome and very knowledgeable. He also gave really good recommendations for other places to visit in Memphis. Completely recommend checking out Old Dominicks 👌

Yelp
If you find yourself in Memphis, you must go to Old Dominick Distillery!!! The tour was hands down one of the best distillery experiences we've ever had, and that's largely thanks to our incredible guide, Keith. We travel regularly and have done distillery tours across Tn & Ky, but this takes the cake as our favorite. Keith painted a vivid picture of the history of Old Dominick and the legendary story of Domenico Canale. Keith's deep knowledge and genuine enthusiasm made every detail about the distilling process come alive. We were lucky to have a small group of 3 of us, he was able to engage our questions and let us truly experience the process as if we were part of it. And then, the tasting. WOW. The spirits were phenomenal, from the smooth, complex bourbon to the bright, crisp gin and vodkas. Keith guided us through each tasting with expertise, offering tips on how to savor every sip and pointing out flavors we might have missed. You could tell he genuinely wanted us to have the best experience possible. Old Dominick Distillery is a must-visit for locals, tourists, and annual visitors like us! Thank you, Old Dominick and Keith, for an unforgettable experience! We are enjoying our purchases still & can't wait to come back. After the tour, spend spend some time are their bar area, it's such a cool vibe! And, if you can't do a tour/tasting, at least come have a drink at the bar!

Yelp
This was our first stop on the Tennessee Whiskey Trail, and wasn't sure what to expect. Our guide (I apologize, I can't remember his name), was FABULOUS...funny, informative, patient, and a great salesman. There were only 4 people on our tour and tasting, so it was very personalized. The whiskey here ended up being one of my favorites! We left our purchases there while we went to lunch across the street at Gus's Fried Chicken (DONT MISS THIS PLACE FOR LINCH!)

Yelp
We stopped in for a drink before heading to dinner and we loved the distillery. The staff were so welcoming. Definitely a must visit while in Memphis. Supposedly the couple next to us told us it's one of the best distillery tours, we did not do the tour but wish we had. I love the inside, the bar area is very cool and they do have TVS for any sport games that may be on. The bar area is first come first serve. They have a long cocktail menu and everything sounded good. The drinks are a bit small but made perfectly. We had a great time!

Yelp
Love this place bartenders are well versed on drink options. I definitely recommend the whiskey flight or trying the tasting. So worth it!!

Yelp
Distillery Tour and Tasting. Great experience for $18. My tour only had 5 people total (including me) which was nice. Our tour guide (whose name I didn't get since I joined the tour late) was very knowledgeable and engaging. He had only been doing tours for a couple of weeks but he was really good! I enjoyed learned about the process and seeing it up close was nice. The space is nice. Distillery in the back and bar in the front. I could see it being a vibe on a Friday or Saturday night. The tasting my great too. My favorites were the vodka and the toddy.
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
This is a real working distillery, making their own amazing booze and selling it to us. Thank you Dominick! We just stopped in for a quick drink and ended up trying their Cocktail flight. 6 mini mason jars with small versions of their specialty cocktails. Perfection!

Yelp
Located on Front St in Downtown Memphis. Large store in the center of the distillery. Highly suggest you take an escorted tour and sampler. Don't leave without a bottle.

Yelp
Driving through the area we really wanted to have a distillery tour experience. I found this place right off the freeway, very easily accessable. Went onto their website. Made an appointment. They open around 12 and their most simple tour last about an hour for $15 a person with a tasting at the end. If you are a whiskey fan or a bourbon fan or a vodka fan or a gin fan, this distillery is not to be missed. Although we booked the simplest tour, our guide was very patient and thorough with his explanation starting from the very origin of this company. I've been to other distillery for a tour and they were not as thorough and we didn't get to see much compared to this tour. I learned a lot today. I highly recommend the Toddy. It is hard to find something like this concoction and I'm glad this company provides it. Straight from the founders recipe 18th century recipe. I'm sipping the past! There is also a world famous/Memphis famous fried chicken right across the street, don't miss it!!

Yelp
We didn't have food, so... but the tasting was amazing, the staff super knowledgeable & friendly. Prices are very reasonable, we had a great time talking with others at the bar as well as the servers. Robert assisted us in deciding what to taste - I do not like Gin and went for a smaller tasting, he suggested that I could swap out the gin! Yay! It is a very comfy bar, and even the store is great.

Yelp
Incredible experience. The cocktails are phenomenal, the staff is knowledgeable and helpful, and the vibe is immaculate. If I lived near here, you'd catch me here weekly. Absolutely a must-try place in Memphis.

Yelp
I absolutely love the venue and surprisingly enough, I never have issues with the parking. Gus' is right across the street and they allow you to eat inside the bar. Cool laid back ambience with knowledgeable and attentive bartenders. Te place is always clean, from the front door to the restrooms. They also regularly are introducing new spirits! Highly recommend. I only wish they stay open a little later especially when I'm working in the area! Maybe with the adjacent space, food soon cometh.

Yelp
Very interesting tour that combined the history of whiskey with the history of Memphis. And they have a very interesting variety of products. If you like whiskey/bourbon and are in Memphis, this tour is well worth the price and time!

Yelp
Memphis has definitely cleaned itself up since my last visit almost 10 years ago. What used to be derelict warehouses across from the original Gus's Fried Chicken is now a nice distillery, The Old Dominick. Inviting space with plenty of seating and a quick 5 min walk from The National Civil Rights Museum. I signed up the night before for the tour and tasting, $15. The group was small and limited to 10-12 ppl. It is about 50 mins in total for everything. It starts with a brief history of The Old Dominick, created from a bottled old toddy recipe by a successful grocer, reallonly a few years old as a distillery. Then the guide takes you through the distillery from bottling to distilling. The coolest part (maybe not the most hygienic) is they allow you to reach into the vats of brewing mash to taste. I guess any germs are cooked off in the distilling process, but fun to touch and taste. Tour was quick and not super informative. They make straight whiskey, bourbon, gin and vodka. You get to taste 6. The only one I liked with the original toddy recipe. I was in the area on Saturday and Sunday and didn't have any problems finding free street parking nearby.

Yelp
Stopped by after eating at Gus's right across the street. You can sign up for the tour or just sit at the bar and have some drinks. Really nice and classy place. Cool bar setup. There's also a gift shop with some whiskey and cool stuff to buy. Good drinks and Robert the bartender was cool and friendly and gave us some advice on good places to check out in Nashville. This is also the first stop in the Tennessee whiskey trail. Robert was cool and gave us the whiskey trail passport and commemorative chip. Make sure you ask for the passport and chip if you plan on visiting a bunch of the distilleries in Tennessee.

Yelp
We had a great tour and Barrell selection. The atmosphere is nice and the staff friendly. Worth a visit.

Yelp
This place has excellent service, a wonderful and informative tour of the distillery, great products (including a wide range of spirits), and a fun bar where you can get very bold and interesting cocktails

Yelp
5 star all the way. The service and ambiance of the bar and distillery were top notch.

Heather S.

Yelp
Awesome place to have a drink!! The drinks are amazing and the bartenders are even better!! Great atmosphere for all ages!

Yelp
This was our first distillery tour and tasting and it did not disappoint. We started off at the bar and had a drink while we waited for the tour to start. The drinks were outstanding. This is my only complaint though, the TVs were placed to high to comfortable watch. We caught an AFC playoff game, we had to constantly look down and relax our necks. Our tour guide was JJ, which I will now call a friend. JJ treated us as a best friend from the moment he greeted us. JJ was full of character and charm. During the tour he kept us engaged with asking us questions about the process. At the tasting he provided extra samples to try and gave us tips we could use in our purchasing of bottles to take home. The distillery was clean, well organized. The smell of grains filled the air. The fermentation room was probably my favorite. We even was able to taste the cap, you have to try it out. The tasting room was in the gift shop for us, but on the next day when we returned we saw a tasting in museum room (starting room). There were several samples to taste, I think there was 8 and we probably had 12 total. You'll definitely feel the warmth of the spirits. Overall this is a must do in Memphis. We have already told our friends and will plan on being back. We also plan on meeting JJ at a tasting near our home this summer. Oh and when you are done, step across the street at the original Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken to help soak up some of the alcohol.

Yelp
Always a wonderful experience. Great service and great drinks! Recommend. So Glad they now have snacks with the bar service!

Yelp
Great place with great whiskey. I attended a special event here. The staff was amazing.

Yelp
Very cute place! Nice bar area with many tvs to watch the game on. The drinks are good (and seem about average in price). We took a tour ($15 plus fees and tax). It was a nice tour, great little excursion around the factory and nice little history about old Dominick. Would recommend everyone go there at least once. And whenever the toddy comes back/I find it in stores I'm buying it up!

Yelp
"Whisky is liquid sunshine." George Bernard Shaw It was a hot June day when I came out of the sun and into the sunshine at Old Dominick Distillery. It's a very attractive bar and shop, with a great bar, and bottles of their finest on display. I started with their basic flight, $15 for a flight of 5 generous pours. My bartender was terrific and gave a very accurate review and description of each whiskey. I ended up with the namesake Old Dominick Tennessee Whiskey at the register. I also got to sample their gin, and another bottle ended up at the counter. Really impressed with the product, service and atmosphere, and will definitely return when back in Memphis.
google avatar

Yelp
We had such a great tour with John. We then spent the afternoon enjoying the ambiance and cocktails. Well done, Old Dominick Distillery!
google avatar

Ric B.

Yelp
Great small distillery with bar as well. We had a private tour as we were the only 2 to sign up at that time. Great tour guide and very insightful. Bought several bottles as we had never heard of Old Dominick before. Highly recommend going there and across the street we had lunch at Gus's world famous fried chicken restaurant. Delicious.
google avatar

Ric B.

Yelp
Great craft distillery in old Memphis. Tour guide was very informative and helpful. Whiskey was very good and they even have a bar for anyone who wants to stop by. Highly recommend and consider eating at Gus's world famous fried chicken across the street. It is their 2nd one opened years ago.
google avatar

Yelp
No food as far as I could see, but some really tasty drinks, and the tour was very informative and at the end of it More Booze!!!! Friendly staff and the place is really impressive

Roy S.

Yelp
We went here and were there at 9:30pm and they didn't close until 10. We found the door locked. There were more than a dozen people at the large bar having their drinks. One customer left and we went to go in and the bartender yells we are closed. We say you are open until 10, and he replies "we have been dead so we are closing early" and refused to seat us as he is still serving to the seated customers. We WILL NOT BE RETURNING!

Jo H.

Yelp
It was just my husband and me on the tour we chose. Jacob personalized the tour and made it so informative. On some tours, I have not even been able to hear the tour guide. The price was appropriate with the six tastings at the end. Our guide was very informative about the ingredients and combinations to give us the flavors we were tasting. This is a bourbon tour you should not miss!
google avatar

Anita H.

Yelp
Great service, scenery, awesome drinks and prices!!! Will definitely come back here when I'm in Memphis again

Yelp
This was my second time visiting Old Dominick Distillery. This time, it was a group of 6. We went there for the flight! The bar tender was awesome. He served us our shots and explained what each drink to us. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. After trying our drinks, we all agreed that the toddy was our favorite. This was the perfect start to our night on Beale Street!
google avatar

Katie M.

Yelp
Cute little distillery downtown and a fun tour to learn about the history of Tennessee whiskey. You walk through the whole operation and process of making all sorts of spirits. I wish the bar had some sort of food offerings because we wanted to stay and try some cocktails but the only food option was fried chicken across the street.
google avatar

Alexa G.

Yelp
Nice little distillery in downtown Memphis. When I lived here a few years ago, I often passed by this building and never had an interest in checking it out. I happen to be in town this week to see family. Googled to see if Memphis had any cool distilleries. This place, of course, pops up. The tour is $18 after taxes, which isn't too bad. Had the opportunity to touch the fermented batch, which was really cool. Afterward, we sampled a few spirits. Pretty good and tasty.

Caleb Z.

Yelp
Wonderful experience, the drink were delicious and classy, both bartender's were great, however the dude had a fantastic mustache. During the tour I realized that the yeast in this place F*%#s. Go here for delicious Memphis drinks and a great local distillery experience.

Laura T.

Yelp
The tour and tasting were great! This was our first stop on the Tennessee Whiskey Trail and it did not disappoint. Our guide gave us great history info, a tour of the process, and best of all - tastings! :-) My favorites were the Bottled in Bond and Single Barrel. The bar is nice too, with a great menu.
google avatar

Josie G.

Yelp
My friend from out of town and I booked a last minute tour. Such a fantastic thing to do with an even better price! Only $15 dollars and you get to try the booze! You can tell they put a lot of work into this tour based on the labels in the distillery room. This was my third time doing the tour and I learned a new thing every time. We didn't stay, but the bar is really cool and has interesting drinks. I recommend this to both out of towners and locals!

Jennifer D.

Yelp
We had a fantastic experience. The staff were all friendly, professional, and informative. Our tour guide was outstanding, and since it was just the two of us, we had plenty of opportunities to ask questions. We had an amazing time.
google avatar

Nic H.

Yelp
The awesome part of downtown living is not having to walk far to enjoy a few sips That said, the Old Dominick tour and tasting was the perfect after work treat. I've had the pleasure of sipping the spirits before (get into that Memphis Hot Toddy!!), but didn't know the history or how it's made. I won't spoil it for you, so visit their website to book your tour! It's also part of the Tennessee Whiskey trail, so be sure to get your chip and passport! If you grab a few cocktails from the bar, ask for Drew! Also: They let us taste the mash. I did it so you don't have to, lol.
google avatar

Yelp
This Tour was soooooo much fun. My wife and I had a blast. I cant believe I have lived in the Memphis area all my life and have never run up on this unique little jewel! We did this awesome tour with a few drinks then dinner. You cant beat this for a night of fun. They have free parking in the rear of the building and Gus's Fried Chicken across the street for those looking for dinner afterwards. The Tour itself was alot of fun and very informative. Our tour leader did a very good job. The taste testing was great. My wife was driving, so I drank hers too.  Once that was done we went through the store then stopped off for another drink. I had the Grapefruit Smash. It was very good!  Needless to say I was a little tight when we left this place. I will defiantly do it again I highly recommend this experience for a great and informative time. Its well worth the money they charge. The drinks are amazing and the tour was fun. I do recommend going on a nice cool day. The manufacturing area can get pretty hot if its one of those hot Memphis days.

Ken K.

Yelp
This is going to be a must stop every time I'm in Memphis! 1st, the location - across the street from Gus's chicken - great place to have a cocktail while you wait for dinner. Then the atmosphere - cool little gift shop, tour looked fun (I'm going next time, and a nice bar. Finally - the Old Fashioned - a bargain at $10.....and one of the best I've ever had - I'll be back!!!!!
google avatar

Jessica F.

Yelp
This place was awesome and the staff was very welcoming. The cocktails we had were all really good and well balanced. The tour was worth the $15 and as a new person to TN it was a great start to the TN whiskey trail. I'll be back to try more drinks.

Cna S.

Yelp
Had a Great time. The tour guide was Awesome. The bartender was cool. The drinks were good. The experience overall all was Awesome & I would greatly recommend.
google avatar

Dave B.

Yelp
This place and the staff is really cool. Not all distilleries are created equal, and this is one of the good ones. Great decor throughout, to include a roof top area for outdoor seating and cornhole. Upstairs, in the enclosed area, is additionally seating an another bar. Upstairs would be a cool venue for a reception or party. There is a small gift shop area with a variety of hats and shirts. I just had an Old Fashioned and left. BUT, this is a must visit if you like liquor or distilleries. Super friendly staff. I highly recommend!!

Brian A.

Yelp
Visited 3 time the last 2 years and said I'd never go back after the second time lol.. well I went again today for the first time since my last tragic experience. Hoping the third time would be a charm. NOT. Bar wasn't even half full and yet my drink sat empty nearly 15 minutes before the bartender asked if I wanted another. He was so busy chatting with guys on the other side of the bar. Even though I had hoped to get another drink I decided NOPE. Such terrible, inattentive service here. Another thing that I find irritating is their website says happy hour is 4-7 PM... don't specify what days of the week. I found out today (Friday), when I got my bill, that it's only Monday-Thursday. How hard would it be for them to put this info on their website? Seriously, it's 2024. I don't care how "great" their liquor is, I'd rather go elsewhere.
google avatar

Tammy B.

Yelp
My husband and I enjoyed the distillery tour immensely! Jay, our guide, was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and funny. She made the tour! Of course, the tasting was the best part. We are locals and we love going downtown and visiting Old Dominick as much as we can.

Shantrice G.

Yelp
The tour was great the host kept us entertained while giving good information. I give the spirits a 10 out of 10 strong but tasty
google avatar

Krystle G.

Yelp
Our third time to stop here! We sat at the bar and had a few cocktails recommended by the bar tender. All excellent recs! I might have dreams about the coffee drink! So good. As usual, the place was great and we'll keep stopping by whenever we're in town!
google avatar

Kimberly D.

Yelp
Did the tour amazing our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the Distillery. I really got a crash 101. Service at the bar always amazing great staff. Keep up the good work Old D. Love IT.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I enjoyed every bit of the tour! As a Memphis native who's just moved back, I've been exploring and rediscovering Memphis and I wanted to introduce this experience to my boyfriend who's from Atlanta. Every single person, employee and patron alike, were all so kind. We were running behind schedule and called the distillery beforehand and spoke with our tour guide, Courtney, who let us know that we'll be caught up on whatever we miss and that we could still enjoy the tour when we arrive. We were greeted by MJ who was very personable and made sure we caught up with our group. Courtney was well informed and kept us engaged the whole tour with her high energy and smile! The facility was clean, easy to navigate, and in a great location where we were still close to our hotel, Beale Street, plenty of restaurants for our post tour munchies, and so many more Memphis staples. This gift shop was fully packed and we decided to leave with a bottle of Toddy and some Bourbon Pecan ice cream. Everything was a 10/10! Old Dominick was our first stop on the Tennessee Whiskey Trail and we're looking forward to continuing and getting our "passports" stamped! Note: tour was one hour and we tasted both vodkas, the gin, and 3 bourbons/whiskeys.8
