14 Fun Things to Do in Maui With Kids | Condé Nast Traveler

"Old Lahaina Luau focuses on the history of Hawaii, beginning with the region's Polynesian ancestors. The experience here is a cut above; you’re given leis when you walk in and will sit at real tables, as opposed to the temporary ones erected by hotels on luau night (unlike many of its peers, Old Lahaina Luau isn't part of a hotel). There’s a permanent circular stage, ringed in lava rocks, where the hula dancers and storytellers perform. And at sunset the location—on the beach on Front Street—can't be beat." - Juliana Shallcross

The Best Luaus in Maui That Everyone Should Experience | Condé Nast Traveler

"As its name suggests, the Old Lahaina Luau, established in 1986, is one of the oldest luaus on the island. It has a beautiful oceanfront location, with a stage framed by lush coconut trees and flickering tiki torches, and the food itself—traditional Hawaiian cuisine—is authentic and done to perfection (not surprising, considering that its founders also own three of Maui's best eateries: Aloha Mixed Plate, Star Noodle, and Leoda's Kitchen and Pie Shop). The show itself is lively and delves deeper into Hawaii's history than most others, which are more focused on entertainment rather than cultural accuracy (for example, though fire-dancing is common at other luaus, there are no fire dancers at the Old Lahaina Luau, as it is not part of Hawaiian tradition). What you're really here for, though, is the legendary service. Upon arrival, each guest is greeted with a fresh orchid lei and a cold tropical cocktail, and—though it's a self-serve feast—friendly waiters go above and beyond to ensure you're happy and full, and don't miss a second of the action."

The food was extremely good and plentiful. You will have a wide variety to choose from and lots of it. Also, the drinks flow freely. It is a great show with good pacing and tells a wonderful story of Hawaii. It is definitely worth it. I recommend the chairs unless you are comfortable sitting for hours without any back support.

From the entrance to the end it was very well organized. Even with the large crowds. The bar and drinks were great. The food was alright. I gave it 4 stars as there was enough food and different kinds to find plenty. It was great to try authentic Hawaiian food. The show was excellent and told a good small bit of history.

Old Lahaina Luau was an amazing experience! The staff were super friendly and ours checked on multiple times; let us know about everything we would see, eat, and drink; and took pictures of our family. They made everything easy and answered questions. The food was above what we expected. The appetizers were fun and tasty. The main course was so great that even my picky eating wife ate some of everything. I loved it all: so much flavor and a huge variety of dishes. The show was phenomenal. A Hula trip through Hawaii's history, it was full of beautiful costumes, fascinating athletic dances, and beautiful music. I highly recommend this experience for your family. It is full of the rich culture of the Hawaiian Islands and is done in a entertaining and educational way.

My family really enjoyed our evening here. From arriving, everything was well organized. Staff were friendly and we got in quickly. The whole area was wheelchair accessible. My sister was able to get around nicely. The activities were fun, the food was good and the show was great.

We’ve been going here since I was a kid — I loved it then for all the activities (unearthing the pig, learning Hawaiian dances or games) and now I love it for the performances and vegan food options!! And the people. Everyone who works there is awesome. Our server team was David and Mia and they kept us fed and watered and drinking (open bar! lol). They helped out with my 11-month old nephew and gave us our banana bread take-home snack to go when we had to leave early. I’m vegan and another person is vegetarian and they were super helpful in getting us our separate food and explaining what it all was. I was very impressed! Loved the watermelon poke and the banana dessert was so big and decadent. The music and dance and storytelling is as always so impressive and beautiful. Would recommend this luau to folks with or without kids, vegan or not, etc. it’s for everybody! It used to be a buffet but that ended in 2020 and has been table service since.

Google
We had such a great experience! The food was delicious, and the service was absolutely awesome. Our server, Spencer, was super kind and attentive — really made us feel welcome. I’d definitely recommend arriving 15–20 minutes early to get good parking and take advantage of the photo ops before it starts. We loved the unlimited drinks from the bar and getting to eat the local food. The show itself was incredibly fun, entertaining, and totally worth the money. Highly recommend!

Four of us were on a recent cruise through the Hawaiian islands and booked this wonderful luau one evening. There are so many choices for luau in Hawaii that it was hard to pick, but after reading a lot of reviews and speaking with friends who have lived in Hawaii we chose old Lahaina luau. I’m really glad we did. From scheduling, communicating with the staff, to our arrival and the whole experience was wonderful. We got there early so we could explore the area a bit and make sure we got a good parking space and got to take some photos before dinner. Everyone involved was just so friendly and kind. Everyone had a good seat. A good view of everything. The food was good. The drinks were great and the show was just fantastic. We saw dancers and singers -very talented people all through dinner and then when dinner was over it was as if there was another show on top of it. Every performance told a story and I highly recommend old Lahaina luau.

Google
The atmosphere was fantastic and the service was wonderful! The food was good, the portion was a little light for us on the main course but it was very tasty. The show was nice, very laid back. There is no fire or knives, it’s a very traditional show which was nice for us after having been to a more action packed luau in Oahu. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
$230 well spent--absolutely worth it for the incredible experience, food, and drinks! Who wouldn't love a feast and performance while watching the sunset by the beach? Parking: While the parking lot is a bit tight (mostly for compact cars), if you have trouble finding a spot, there's plenty of parking across the street. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with fresh leis and immediately led to our table. Since we were a group of four, we shared the table with two others, but it wasn't an issue as we had our own plates and space. Our server, Garrett, and busser, Moka, were both exceptional--attentive and friendly. Garrett made sure we were always taken care of, offering helpful tips on how to enjoy the various dishes and explaining the unique flavors. The service was top-notch, and it really elevated our dining experience. First Course: The taro chips with hummus were a standout--light, crunchy, and perfectly paired. Second Course: The ahi was fresh and flavorful, but the pork was a bit on the salty side. Thankfully, Garrett recommended pairing it with poi and lomi lomi salmon, and it made all the difference! By the second course, I was already full, but I kept going for the flavors. Third Course: The chicken was absolutely delicious--perfectly cooked and seasoned. Dessert: After a satisfying meal, we were treated to a warm, fragrant tea paired with pineapple cake. A lovely way to end the evening. Throughout the meal, there were small performances, adding a wonderful cultural touch to the experience. After dessert, we enjoyed a larger performance that incorporated history and storytelling--such a unique and memorable addition to the dinner. Drinks: The Mai Tai and Pina Colada were standouts! Refreshing, flavorful, and perfectly crafted. It's clear that a lot of thought and effort went into making this an unforgettable experience. I highly recommend this spot, not only for the amazing food and drinks but also for the immersive cultural experience. It's well worth the price and a must-try if you're in Lahaina! They also mentioned the were donating some of the proceeds to rebuilding Lahaina which is a plus. I'll definitely be recommending this to all of my friends.

Yelp
UPDATE 12/20/24 the Luau has lost "its charm". Previously, the show (history) was done with amazement and pride. You could tell the staff loved sharing their art, history, music. Now, they seem to have lost that "spark". The Show seems far less than previous. I remember fire being used previously, none this time. They no longer parade the "pig roast" around as previously. The show doesn't seem as long. The "pride" seems lost. The show was "mediocre" this time. The food was good but less quantity. I wish they all knew how very important each person (working) is at this event. They share their history with us through hula. Can't explain it, but the "spark" that I so loved is no longer there. It comes across as a "job" now. It is becoming just another "tourist trap" when previously it was a tasteful history and cultural event that sent shivers down my spine. I PRAY they get back to what I previously have seen. A Must, each time in Maui. This place has it all and is not just a "tourist" destination but a destination I must experience each time in Maui. The musicians are amazing, true blue heartfelt and such amazement .

Yelp
We came to the luau on my second night in Maui and had a blast! While it might seem pricy at $230 per person, considering the quality and quantity of the food PLUS a very entertaining and educational show - it's actually really reasonable! Before the show starts, you can get drinks and walk around the property which is stunning. There were a few different vendors with home made goods, and I wish we had gotten there earlier so we had more time to explore. The crowd then gathers around as they unveil the roasted pig from underground - so cool! There is SO much food and with unlimited drinks, you can really get full fast! My absolute favorite was the fresh ahi poke, which was really simply done. I ate fresh ahi almost every day of the trip and this was possibly the best. I felt like some of the pork was a little salty, but still delicious. I LOVED the flat iron steak but the catch of the day was meh. The hula chicken was also really yummy. I would have loved to have had the Haupia for dessert rather than as an appetizer but that's just my preference. Two of those in our party were vegetarians and they had customized the various courses to give them similar dishes that were vegetarian instead. Service was delightful - it's clear that tbey are very selective about their team, and train them very well. Each server is assigned to only a few tables, so he or she has lots of time to engage if you choose to. The show was excellent and had a lot of interesting historical details that I had never learned. We chuckled about how as soon as Hawaii had a female leader, the US came in and decided to take over. Hawaiian history is incredibly interesting and learning about it at a luau is a unique immersive experience that is well worth your evening!

Yelp
This was my first Luau and it was definitely was a vibe. We came early and waited until 5:15 for them to let us in. The first 30 minutes we walked around to grab pictures with the beautiful ocean (the place is next to the shore so makes for great pictures.) They had a few games as well as some basic hula stuff. I think the star of this show was definitely the food. Course meal was BOMB and everything tasted delicious. It looks like a lot of food but it's not too bad, we finished all the food no problem. You get to try out maybe 10-15 different dishes which is pretty crazy. Definitely better tasting than the Luau that serve buffets. In terms of drinks, it didn't taste that water downed TBH, you can probably get turned if you wanted too. Now for the shows, it was okay. It's very historical but if you're expecting anything crazy like the fire dance then you'll be left disappointed. It's purely hula dancing and explaining alot of history of the past on the island. The performers were great though just it could be boring for some IMO. My thoughts? I overall enjoyed it and learned a lot. Was it worth? Hard to justify since most Luau are expensive but I feel I overall had a good time. (4/5 for worth) You will have to share a table with others unless you have a larger party. Food won't be shared besides for your party though which is good. Food - (5/5) Atmosphere - (5/5) Activities - (4/5) Performances - (3/5) Hospitality - (4.5/5) Parking - Plenty, they have an onsite parking lot and overflow parking lot.

Yelp
I cannot rave about this Luau enough!! It definitely was the cherry on top of our Maui trip. For starters, the location and the beauty of the place is unbelievable. Right on the ocean too at sunset, it was beyond stunning! Our waiter Nick was great, and the food was even more amazing. We loved the traditional food, and I'm a vegetarian so the food accommodations for me were above and beyond! As far as the show goes, you felt like you were fully immersed in the culture the whole time. I enjoyed how they talked a little about the history between dances. Also the dancers were incredible. I found myself getting emotional at one point through the show! Definitely the best luau in Maui by far. It's more than a show, it's a whole experience.

Yelp
We loved our experience at Old Lahaina Luau! The setting was gorgeous! Spacious outdoor oceanside space. Beautiful sunset views as you enjoyed dinner and the performances. Venue was modern and clean. The performances were beautiful- very professionally done, talented dancers. We loved that there were fun activities and audience involvement like a short but sweet hula lesson. The food was outstanding from start to finish. All the food tasted fresh, deliciously seasoned, and presented beautifully. Highlights for us included the lau lau-pork was phenomenally tender and flavorful. The poke was also fantastic- ahi tuna tasted super fresh. We also loved the pohole salad- we don't recall eating pohole (fiddlehead ferns) before but we loved it- such a fresh tasting and crunchy vegetable! Guava honey butter with the taro dinner rolls were also delightful. They emphasize that you can ask for more of any of the dishes that you enjoyed! And at the end, they give you a cute little boxed banana bread that they advise to enjoy for breakfast the next day! The banana bread was amazing - soft, moist, and loved the crunchy salty-sweet granola-type topping - a wonderful way to reminisce on the excellent luau. We enjoyed the drink selections- drinks are all inclusive- waiters were great about asking if we wanted more drinks- we enjoyed all the cocktails we tried including pina colada, honey girl, nalu special. The service was phenomenal - our waiters were helpful and friendly. Food and drinks served in a timely manner. The whole experience was seamless. They also mentioned they donate portion proceeds to Lahaina.

Yelp
I am allergic to tree nuts and was able to eat safely because they are committed to being nut-free! Seriously amazing and so rare to find, especially on vacation! I cannot rave about this luau enough. The food was delicious. Like beyond everything I was expecting, it was so good! Our favorites were the Fresh Ahi Tuna Poke from the traditional Hawaiian course, and the Uala - Sweet Potato from the main course. We have not stopped thinking about the food since we left and will be back when we visit Maui again. The space was BEAUTIFUL! The activities they have going on before the show makes for an even greater time. Our server, Rob, and the busser, CJ, were attentive and kind and made our experience all the more memorable. The price of this luau is 1000% worth it. I cannot imagine having come to Maui and not experiencing it!

Yelp
We have been to a few Luaus on different islands before but the ambiance, level of service and quality of food at The Old Lahaina Luau is not to be missed. Kudos to the setting on the beach with stunning views and thoughtfully tiered table seating making the experience so special. The architecture and the landscaping exuded lush tropical Lahaina in a traditional Hawaiian setting, creatively hiding a lot of service aspects of a F&B establishment. The costumes and performances were very professional and well presented. The delicious food was lovingly presented in modern and elegant dishes and brought to individual tables in a very classy professional way. Noteably the Luau donates a portion of their profits to fund the restoration of Old Lahaina from the recent fires. The combination of all of this placed this Luau on a tier higher than all the rest. Not to be missed!

Yelp
Top notch experience here! The staff and performers were fantastic, funny, accommodating and welcoming to us. We enjoyed so much delicious food, and it kept coming! The location and setting were superb, right next to Mala Wharf and the end of Lahaina town where the 2023 fire was. The story of the islands told through hula and luau was beautiful and there was a wonderful tribute to Lahaina Town and what was lost in the fire. The cost is steep but it is worth every penny for every moment of Aloha given here. Support their local economy and learn the important history of this very special place.

Yelp
I actually went here a few years ago for my dad's birthday with the entire family. This post or review is more for posterity. Plus, about a year ago this area of Hawaii saw one of the most horrific disasters in US history. It really makes me sad to think about and my heart goes out to the people of Lahaina. I would say this luau felt authentic or at least authentic as could be. It had a very beautiful setting with the ocean view and the perfectly kept premises. One of my sister-in-laws took care of the reservations I just had to pay. But basically you get tickets and when you go, you get seated in clusters according to party. Then by group, they allow you to get up to the buffet to get your food and take your drink orders. I thought it was well organized, and the food was good. After everybody had a chance to get to the food, I think you are able to make multiple visits. The people were so cool and I even had a conversation with one of our servers about living in the area. Before the food part, you get to walk around the area and check everything out while taking pictures. There are musicians playing light Hawaiian background music as well. There is also a mini show around the process of digging up the pork that was buried underground to cook. After dinner when it gets a little dark, the dancers come out and do another show in the main stage area. I had so much fun. Coming from the mainland and visiting as a tourist, of course the whole concept of a luau feels a little touristy. But that's why I love it so much. No joke, but ever since I saw a luau on the Brady Bunch as a kid, I've always wanted to experience one. But I haven't been able to get to Hawaii until I was a lot older. So glad I got to experience this and hopefully they make a full recovery and generations to come are able to experience this fun, cultural activity as well.

Yelp
Old Lahaina Luau provided us an excellent luau experience! The whole show from start to finish was very well thought out and very organized. Our waiter was very hospitable and took great care of our party of 10. I didn't try all the food items as I don't eat seafood, but my table really liked it and the items I tried were great and I enjoyed all the mock-tails! If you're going to splurge on a luau, this is the one to choose!

Yelp
Had an amazing time here. Beautiful setting along the beach with dances and cultural presentations that feel authentic, respectful, and not something put together to just make a buck. Dinner was an amazing journey of flavors that had a wide variety of dishes from pork, to poi, to coconut jellies. You'll definitely want to pace yourself. Staff is friendly and amazing, shout out to cousin Kyle. A few helpful details: - I would arrive maybe like 20 min early as you can walk around the beach area and take photos. There's also local vendors selling crafts. - I would highly recommend getting a table with seats (vs. sitting on the ground). It's just much more comfortable throughout the night - Old Lahaina definitely makes some notable banana bread that they give everyone as a parting gift. It's banana bread with a coffee cake crumble top and is amazing. - Dress is fairly casual. shorts and a t-shirt was fine, but most men came in a Hawaiian shirt All in all, this is really the only luau you need to attend and is worth every penny.

Yelp
This was our first lu'au and, wow, we were blown away! Such a beautiful location during sunset with great hula dancing for an authentic experience and learning the history of hula. Everyone gets a fresh lei. Our server and busser were excellent! We opted for traditional seating (on the ground) which meant we were front row to the stage. We were seated at a table for two, which was perfect. The front row floor seats are the same price as table seating. Sitting in the ground can get a bit tiring, but I just got up to walk around, which we had to do anyway because we ate so much food! The food was incredible and the amount of food was massive. The menu lists 4 courses, but each course consists of lots of different items, which I love. The food is served to you to share at the table. I loved the pohole (fiddlehead fern) salad!I asked for seconds of that dish and heard another table request for more too. I'm proud to say that we ate all our food (except for dessert, because I was way too full by then). The drinks were included and there were plenty of delicious options. Gratuity was included in the price too. A portion of their sales go towards restoring Lahaina. They also included a flyer in their program for guests to also donate to Lahaina Restoration Foundation, which is a no-brainer to do! The lu'au ended with banana bread as parting gifts to enjoy for breakfast the next morning! If you're trying to decide on which lu'au to attend, this one is a must! This was definitely with it imo.

Yelp
Old Lahaina Luau takes you on a magical journey rich with Hawaiian culture and history. Food is outstanding and so is the staff. We've been coming to Maui for 20 years and this is the only Luau we recommend.

Yelp
What a fantastic experience. Whether this is your first Luau or your 10th, this definitely serves as a great all around experience. Keep in mind that the show is traditional Hawaiian (i.e. no fire dancing). But the main stars of the luau is the food and drink! For the Drinks, we had the Mai Tai, Blue Hawaiian, Honey Girl, and Lava Flow. All alcoholic and all delicious. Very flavorful and fruity. In regards to food, it was broken down to courses. The starter course consisted of Ulu hummus, fresh chips, haupia, and Kulolo. The Traditional Hawaiian course had Pua'a Kalua, Laulau -Lu'au Lead wrapped pork, Lomi Lomi Salmon, tuna Poke Ahi, Pohole Salad, and Pa'i'ai. The Main course consisted of Pipi Ko'ala, I-a - fresh catch, Moa - Island style chicken, seasonal vegetables, Palaoa Dinner rolls, and Guava Honey butter. Lastly for dessert, we had the Pineapple delight. The food as a whole was absolutely delicious. The stand outs for me was definitely the dinner rolls w/ guava butter, the poke, Pua'a Kalua, Pipi Ko'ala, Moa style chicken, and pineapple delight. The flavors popped and it just satisfied all the Hawaiian cravings I had from savory to sweet. The shows were also very beautiful, especially seeing the performers enact in traditional routines. There are moments where they get in some audience participation, which is fun.i also loved the banana bread they gave as a parting gift. That was delicious! The service was also great as the servers were attentive and knowledgeable!Overall, an awesome experience for anyone interested in Luaus!

Yelp
I recently attended the Old Lahaina Luau, and it was a truly remarkable experience. Supporting one of the few businesses not destroyed by the recent fires felt impactful, as it directly contributes to the community's recovery and preservation. The luau offered a fascinating journey through Hawaii's history, teaching us about the significance and traditions of luaus. It was both educational and deeply enriching. The highlight was trying all the traditional foods from the island, each dish offering a taste of authentic Hawaiian culture. A special surprise awaited us at the end of the evening, adding a memorable and delightful conclusion to the event. Additionally, the presence of local artisans provided a unique opportunity to purchase one-of-a-kind gifts to take back to the mainland, further supporting the local community. Overall, the Old Lahaina Luau is a must-visit for anyone looking to immerse themselves in Hawaiian culture, enjoy traditional cuisine, and support the resilience of the local community.

Yelp
To anybody concerned that this might be a tourist trap, I am here to ensure you it is not. The Old Lahaina Luau is run to near perfection. The staff is incredibly attentive, friendly, and efficient. The large crowd does not compromise the service, as our lovely waitress Kona checked up on us more often than is done at a restaurant. The food is excellent. The Luau features traditional cuisine with each dish being accompanied by a story about the island's history. They also accommodate vegetarians incredibly well - providing a whole additional menu that matches the quality of the regular courses. The performance is wonderful. Many are concerned about the lack of a fire show, but not once during the performance did I feel that it lacked. The dancers dance beautifully and share Hawaii's culture creatively and in a captivating manner. I absolutely recommend checking this Luau out, it lives to its hype!

Yelp
Beautiful luau experience with Old Lahaina Luau. However, the parking lot is extremely crowded and small so make sure to arrive early. They have beautiful pre-show entertainment as well. Make sure to tell them several days in advance if you have any dietary restrictions (like being vegan or vegetarian). I liked that it wasn't just a buffet style and the food was served to us. The show was really good but was hoping to see the fire performers, so that was disappointing they weren't there.

Yelp
Very pretty location for a Luau in HI! The ocean front and surrounding palm trees always makes me happy. When you walk in a 5 man band is playing traditional Hawaiian music. We were seated right away & our unlimited drink options arrived with our 1st appetizer; creamy Hummus & thick sweet potato chips! Delicious We walked around to sight see, take photos & look at some vendors sales of jewelry & wood carvings. Food & drinks kept coming-the pork is tender & juicy! My fave is their Ahi Tuna!! My son loves their flat iron steak! So many choices-fish & chicken also! All good! You will not leave hungry! To top it off Pineapple sponge dessert is to die for! Next is the show, sit back & relax! We watched & listened to their stories through dance! Very fun evening!

Yelp
The whole experience was mind blowing with several hula performances and local Hawaiian cuisine. The food and service was on point and the drinks were circulated at a rapid pace. The area looks beautiful and the location is perfect. We had to make the reservation 3 months in advance to get a spot for our anniversary.

Yelp
Food and service were excellent. Dancing and music great as well. Recommend table and chairs even though the traditional mat seating is right in front of the stage. I appreciated that they allowed us to switch on the day of, because my husband had surgery and could only comfortably sit on a chair. It's outdoors so bring jacket in case you get cold easily. The evening definitely takes up the entire time 5:15-8:15 I saw several people bringing children like 1.5 years old and older, which I was impressed by because it's a long evening for young kids to sit through.

Daria S.

Yelp
We had an absolutely wonderful time at Old Lahaina Luau. The feast, the show and the drinks make this evening a really good value and unforgettable experience. We had excellent service and they took such excellent care of us. We will definitely do this luau again! It's the best luau in Hawaii in my humble opinion!!!

Yelp
This was my first ever luau experience and the entire night blew me away. Service was top notch, the show was touching and beautiful, and the food and drinks were delicious. The venue is also breathtakingly gorgeous and we were lucky to have the perfect weather that night. Going to this luau counts as one of my favorite memories from my Maui trip.

Yelp
Everyone that worked here was so kind and had the best service. The food was delicious (far better than other luaus in the area) and they were sweet about accommodating for dietary restrictions. Even the drinks (that are included in the cost ) were great. Most places that include drinks make them so sweet or with terrible alcohol but these were flavorful while not hangover inducing. The dancers put on a beautiful show and it was the perfect combo of performance and allowing you time to enjoy the party you came with. There is not a bad seat in the house and the banana bread they sent you home with was delicious.

Yelp
Service was friendly and fast. The show was enjoyable and the food was wonderful. Beautiful site to watch the ocean and have a meal with family and friends.

Yelp
Being my first luau, I wanted to go to the best one. I was saddened last year when this show was cancelled due to the fires, but even more worried about what happened to those who worked here and if they'd ever be able to share their cultural experience with visitors again. Luckily, they reopened and we were able to book tickets for this trip. I'm so glad we ended our trip with this luau. Not only was the food super delicious, but the performances were captivating and really showcased the Hawaiian culture and history. I had heard many other visitors were disappointed that they removed the fire dancers from the show (understandably a sensitive thing in Lahaina), but I thought it was still really exciting to watch. Highly recommend for anyone seeking a luau experience.

Yelp
What an unforgettable experience. The history of Lahaina was told through story, dance, and their food! The menu was pre-determined and had a vast variety of local delicacies. They were generous on the drinks, which were included. Our server Spencer was attentive and super friendly. The show was mesmerizing. And to top it off, that gave you a parting gift of banana bread, which was more delicious than it had any right to be. Make sure to wear a Hawaiian shirt

Yelp
Our night at the Old Lahaina Luau was one for the books! The tradition, the history and the beautiful dancing was unbeatable! Our servers Nichell and RJ were so attentive, friendly and treated us like their own family! Nichell went above and beyond as she saw my mom fidgeting in her seat (she has had a full back and neck surgery) and brought her a cushion to support her comfort. She had no idea but her ability to read her body language made the world of difference to my mom! The ambiance right on the water as the sun set, with a light breeze, and sounds of waves crashing set the tone for a night to remember for all of us. Thank you to all of the staff for making our trip to Maui an unforgettable one! We will always recommend this event!

Yelp
There's a reason this place is considered the best luau in Maui! I was really wondering if luaus were worth the pricey cost. However, it's not that bad considering you can pretty much get unlimited food (unless they run out) and drinks within the allotted time, get lei'd, and get banana bread the take home! For the price of $230, let's break it down. To get lei'd at the airport, that's at least $35. To buy banana bread at Aunt Sandy's is like $9 and maybe $6 elsewhere. Unlimited drinks including exclusive Old Lahaina liquor and beer... After drinking 3 cocktails that can run at least $12 each equals $36. So then that leaves a four course meal where you can ask for MORE for the rest of the amount. Maybe it's not Mama's Fish House but it comes with a lovely hula show. Gratuity is included so you don't get to cry after for you get the bill, only when you book the reservation. Ambiance-wise, pay attention to the sunset!!! We had the best views for watching a sunset but didn't pay attention. Also, my golly VIP isn't anymore money than regular reservations. Just get regular table seating... Sitting on the floor does ruin the experience. I'm not entirely sure if there's any other difference than front row seating, but I highly doubt that the view from even the back is bad. The servers are the most attentive on the whole island. It doesn't say much considering the really slow service I've received elsewhere but they came every course meal to explain each dish and to pick up the dishes from before. Now if you're intending to order more dishes or drinks other than those times, it can be not enough for you because you can't really flag them down. The food is pretty good for the price you get. Some of it is just okaaaay while others leave you wanting more. My favorites were the Hawaiian dishes and not so much the main courses. I don't wanna spoil it so you should try this luau for yourself. The hula show itself isn't grand until the last third of the show. If you know a bit of Hawaiian history, it helps understand the show but isn't necessary. Whether you can skip a luau on your Maui vacation is debatable, but attending this one did leave me satisfied. Especially getting lei'd which I think is a quintessential experience of a Hawaiian vacation.

Yelp
This was rated very highly and we went in expecting a lot of entertainment. There are a lotttt of tables and the seating is pre-decided. You will be assigned a server that will take care of you throughout the evening. The servers are prompt with the drinks and polite. They have plenty of drinks you can choose from. As vegetarians, the menu was limited for us and the food was bland. The biggest disappointment was the entertainment- the food is served first after which you enjoy the acts . There are 5 acts but they all seemed similar. Also, there are tables all around the Center stage so you could be seated at the side (like us!) and miss few parts of the performance. Overall, very expensive for the experience they provide.

Yelp
This luau was one of the greatest experiences and memories made on this trip. The food was all phenomenal, the drinks were all delicious, and the service was excellent. Be sure to reserve ahead of time to secure a seat. We sat at the tables but they do offer traditional seating near the main stage where you sit on the ground. The show was amazing in the history behind everything is explained in detail which allows you to appreciate all aspects of Hawaiian culture and food. It is well worth the price you pay to get in and should be a priority on any trip to Hawaii specifically the Old Lahaina Luau is fantastic and rooted in rich history.

Yelp
I hadn't been to this Luau in years. I'm glad they were able to rebuild after the fires. The food was exquisite, the drinks were great. Our waitress was just ok. The dancers and show were outstanding. I can understand why they didn't have the fire show (to those complaining in other reviews). It's a sensitive subject, I get it.

We really enjoyed our experience. The food was great and more than enough. Great service and entertainment.

Yelp
A beautiful experience where you get great food, a wonderful show, breathtaking sunset ocean views, but most of all, you get to know and watch all the wonderful people of Maui who work at Old Lahaina Luau just so proud and happy to be there! This is less of a food review, although the meal was plentiful and very good, but more of a nod to the entire experience. The grounds are beautifully manicured and just getting there early, wearing your flower lei as you listen to the live music play, watch the sunset and wander the area of the Luau was a vibe. Plenty of photo opportunities. This in and of itself is a reason to come here as opposed to your typical resort Luau. Performers were great, and there were a lot of them. I've been too a few Luaus, and some can feel somewhat thrown together. This one, however, definitely exudes pride and skill in telling an authentic story. Food and drinks were great! Some dishes felt banquet-ish, but to be expected when you're feeding hundreds of people a night in one sitting. But there were some great, authentic and unique dishes as well. But for me, the showstoppers were the people of Old Lahaina Luau. Nick, our main man, had been there for 21 years. He loved the land, was proud of the experience, and genuinely was welcoming and endearing to every table he worked. His personal stories and attentiveness made our night. But it wasn't just him; every performer, waiter, greeter we saw had huge smile on their face, was so welcoming, and some even sang their way through the night, cheering their performers on and joining in on the festivities! It's not just a dinner show, it's an experience!

Yelp
The food was outstanding--best meal I ate on Maui by far. The service was excellent, and the show was moving. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Great time we had forgot our photos that we purchased and the customer service was wonderful. All we did was have to send an email and our names for the reservations and they emailed us the photos. Thank you guys so much.

Yelp
Incredibly underwhelming for the price. Everything started off fine, but as soon as it began raining, the entire experience went downhill. The staff kept repeating how unusual the rain was, yet they had no backup plan. Instead, there was a strange expectation that we should sit in the rain because it's "a blessing." When the rain stopped, my waitress seemed reluctant to wipe down my soaked seats, unlike other waitresses who were more attentive. It was frustrating, to say the least. The staff overall came across as rude and uninterested, which was shocking for an event costing over $200 per person. I expected a first-class experience, but this was far from it. The food was a huge letdown--bland, poorly seasoned, and lacking any real flavor. The pork was salty and tasteless, and the ahi tuna tasted like it had been frozen. It's hard to believe I paid that much for such low-quality food. The show looked visually impressive, but it was hard to follow, and none of the performers seemed to care. It felt like they were just going through the motions, and it was obvious the focus was on making money rather than providing a memorable experience. After a 13-hour flight, I was excited to celebrate my birthday at this event, but instead, I left feeling frustrated and disappointed. I was initially drawn to this luau because of its positive reviews and the mention of donating money to fire victims, but I can't help but feel taken advantage of. For the price, the experience didn't even come close to matching expectations. You're probably better off attending a luau at your hotel rather than wasting your time and money at this overpriced tourist trap.

Yelp
Can't say how happy I was with this event. The food staff and performers were all amazing.

Yelp
Food was good. Drinks watered down. Entertainment sufficient. Appreciate that they're recovering from the devastating fires. Was there with my lady friend who seemed to have a good time. Therefore 5/5 vs 4/5.

Yelp
Best venue, worst show. I've been to several luaus and this one was just ok. The location along the ocean was wonderful with a great view of the sunset. The tables were set along 3 tiers that ensured everyone had a great view of the stage. The food was excellent and I really liked the variety of the family style food. Drinks were tasty but I was dismayed by the fact they didn't serve a classic Blue Hawaiian with rum. Their Mai Tai was one of the best I've had but I think it was just a fruit juice cocktail instead a classic Mai Tai, but I'm ok with that. The show was the slow point. It told a story but was slow paced. Only 2 male dancers and no fire-dancer at the end. The hula was good but lacked the excitement of other programs.

Yelp
OLL held a fundraiser for Lahaina Restoration Foundation tonight, and it was fantastic! It was originally supposed to be in October 23 but the August 8 fire delayed it. Tonight was a big fundraising event and it was very successful, with everyone bidding to donate and an online auction too. It goes to a great cause, keeping Lahaina's history and culture alive. So thank you to the owners, and every employees of OLL, servers, dancers, chefs, etc. You are all amazing and do a fantastic job. I really enjoyed this evening and you helped raise so much money to help Lahaina. MAHALO!

Yelp
I would like to extend a big Mahalo to Kerri, Wendy, Erica, Toko, Kola, Lindsey, and Randy for their contributions to last night's luau. Our group truly enjoyed the delicious food and captivating show, which clearly deserves its reputation as the best luau on the island of Maui. From the warm welcome at check-in to the fond farewell at the end, the experience was exceptional. Thank you all for making it a memorable evening.

Yelp
Overall, this place was incredible. They care deeply about their culture and are even more passionate about their community due to the wild fires last year. The food was delicious - you receive everything on the menu they send you 24 hr in advance and it includes an open bar. It is plated, I believe it was buffet prior to Covid. The workers were so kind and the performance was fascinating to watch and to learn. Highly recommend! They even had a dance that couples could dance to. You see the sunset & the music is beautiful. It's frustrating to see reviews upset about no fire dances or fire entertainment. This place is to teach you about the culture and history. Last year they were deeply affected by wild fires and are trying to be cautious. The dances were beautiful and the workers were so kind and the dancers were very passionate about what they're doing.

Yelp
Everyone was friendly. Great service. The show was amazing. It rained while the dancers were up and they kept going and it made it so magical. The sunset was amazing. All the tables had great views of the stage. There's a grassy area for kids to run around. 100% would go again.

Yelp
Positives: This place is beautiful, top notch, clean, welcoming, organized. Everyone was so nice, and very dressed up. The food looked so instagramable. The sunset gave us our perfect picture. The show with history and dancing was entertaining! The negatives: the vegan menu was kind of boring and bland. If you don't eat a lot, the place is not for you, they give you way too much food, i could barely get through the night, and my stomach hurt so bad after. The price of the entire ticket was insanity, i only did it because my bf really wanted to go to one luau. But honestly there really isnt a need to go to a luau. The price comes with tip, but the waiters orally said if we wanted to to more we could. It was beautiful, but i will never again come here in my life. It was fine.

Yelp
First experience to any Luau. The first Luau we researched was 3.4 stars. And had a lot of reviews. Old Lahaina has 4.3-4.5 stars and even more reviews. Far better reviews. And cheaper than the other Luau. $230 and some change is the price, as of September. Served family style. Small portions in my eyes, being a mainlander. But the food was quite tasty. Ralph, our server and Keith, our busser were very attentive. Ralph kept bringing us and offering us drinks. Yes, drinks are included. Alcohol. Soda. Coffee. Water. Whatever you'd like. Yes, the drinks are watered down. But they are very tasty. Beautiful views of the ocean. Plenty of places to take pictures. Relaxing and beautiful. They also offered some education on the Hawaiian culture, which is amazing. Before you decide on a Luau, look at the reviews. The bad ones first. Then look at the positive ones. I'm picky about reviews and I'm sold on this place. Thank you for a great experience!!

Yelp
This is the 3rd luau I've been to, and it is THE BEST by far. Overall- high quality in every regard! Great food, friendly staff, professional show, & overall beautiful presentation. The grounds are extremely well kept & beautiful for sunset photos. Experience is from about 545 to 9pm. BOOKING & PRICING The reviews are true, cost is over $200 pp & you have to book over a month in advance. However you can be put on a waitlist if they're sold out for your preferred date & they'll notify you if a table opens up. SEATING This is laid out in a half circle with the stage in the center. What I enjoyed is that your party gets their own table & there are no communal table seats. No forced small talk with strangers like some other luaus. This luau allows a private dining & viewing experience. So much more intimate that way. I'm a fan! We got seated at the side of the stage by the live band. Not a bad seat, but if you care about being centered, maybe try to put in a request? PARKING Parking is free, yay, and they have a small lot on their property if you get there early or you can park directly across the street at the Longs lot. We got there 5 min before show starting & parked across the street. No issues. FOOD This is not a cheap, buffet- style luau. It's all you can eat, but they actually serve every course to your table with the option of go-backs for whatever you liked the most. Highlights were the ahi poke, guava butter with taro bread, lau lau, & the slow cooked pork. Just perfect. For dessert, their chocolate mango dome was awesome. I did not like the poi, chicken (too dry) or the beef (salty). However I will say my husband got chicken thigh & his was okay. I got chicken breast & it was so tough. For your parting gift, you get banana bread to take home. DRINKS All drinks are also included. Several cocktails with vodka/rum & fruit juices. All cocktails were on the sweet side fyi. Beer & wine too. There's even an exclusive Maui brewing beer made exclusively for this luau! For kids/those not drinking alcohol- there are slushies, mocktails, soda & lots of fruit juices. There is something for everyone! SHOW During dinner, hula dancers perform & the whole ambience is quiet peaceful. The live band is fantastic! Once you have your dessert course, the main show starts. It lasts about 1 hour. Every performer was talented & professional. And there's a story they narrate as well & you learn about Hawaiian history & culture. The show is a little slow & kind of repetitive though. Lighting & costumes very high quality. It was enjoyable but I definitely think it's a one time thing. SERVICE We had Chris & he was a cool server. So friendly & accommodating. Explained every course in detail & brought us soo many rounds of drinks. When we left, every staff person we saw had a smile on their face & thanked us for coming. Felt so welcomed the whole time. Once you sit down at your table, they bring appetizers like the taro chips & dip. Very efficient. Definitely pace yourself with the food! TIPS Before sunset, the sun is really bright and it was directly in my eyes for like 45min or so. I'd bring sunglasses, but then the sun sets & it's dark for the main show. Come on time so you can watch them dig up the pig they cooked in the underground dirt oven for 12 hours! It is so interesting to learn about. No need to come 20-30 min early, I think that's overkill.

Yelp
Open bar with Mai Tai and other drinks were really good. Staff were friendly. Lots of food and the entertainment was spot on. Had a great view of the sunset. Recommend spending the extra and sitting up front.

Yelp
Definitely worth the money, this place is absolutely beautiful you will leave with a amazing experience. Unlimited open bar is a must at a luau and they have different variety of drinks, you also get your own server for the night. They made all the drinks non alcoholic for my teen son so he wouldn't feel left out lol
