Best Chinese Restaurants in Charleston | Eater Carolinas

"If you haven’t heard of Old Li’s Restaurant on Savannah Highway in West Ashley, it might be because fans of the Chinese establishment would rather keep it a well-guarded secret. The can’t -miss menu item is the crispy Peking duck, but the oyster pancakes, dumplings, and squirrel fish are worth ordering as well. Old Li’s is BYOB, so plan accordingly." - Erin Perkins

Carolinas Food Writers and Photographers Name Their Best Restaurant Meal of 2021 | Eater Carolinas

"This strip-mall Chinese restaurant on Savannah Highway felt like a revelation: it rivaled James Beard restaurants I frequented in 2021, with fluffy sea oyster pancakes, sweet squirrel fish, crispy Peking duck, and the best dumplings I’ve ever had, all enjoyed BYOB with Champagne in plastic cups for a perfectly unpretentious meal." - Eater Staff

A mix of what you'd get with a Western Saloon design with a distinctly Asian flair on the outside. Food here was ok, Sichuan-ish style but on the sweet side. Lunch specials come with a soda. We ended up having enough people to order from the main menu. Hot & sour soup was really sweet and not sour, and they had a nice trio of homemade pickles/kimchi which was probably the best part. Coriander beef was good, though, as a cold dish / appetizer. Well-seasoned and good portion. Chicken chow mein was ok, though noodles were overcooked in oil and falling apart (tough to eat with the chopsticks). They need to do the noodle even less al dente if sautéing with the sauce/chicken after. Griddle cauliflower w/ pork was on the sweet side instead of spicy. Scallion fish also on the sweet side and not spicy (even though marked as such). Rice came in a fun bamboo container, like an old water or carry container. Overall service was good, not too omnipresent, and they were able to accommodate our table of 5 easily at lunch.

Google
Great service and atmosphere, place is clean. The counter lady won't treat you as a valued customer, she needs a bit more of customer service skills but it's alright. The food is good, I ordered the grilled beef brisket with radish lunch plate. Not much meat which was disappointing if you go by the menu photos, it was ok, had nothing of grilled but it was boiled instead, but still had a decent flavor. The meat pieces had a lot of gristle, which is not edible at all. They'll give you white rice which is ok and tasty along with cabbage. If you want Chinese fried rice you'll need to order separately which we did and it was good, but way very very oily. We also tried the spring rolls, they were ok, and the steamed dumplings were ok as well. Overall it was a decent meal and the waiter was very attentive. Will I return? Maybe, not sure.

MUST TRY! Old Li’s Restaurant is a hidden gem in North Charleston! The food is absolutely delicious, freshly made, and full of authentic flavors. The portions are generous, and every dish tastes homemade with real attention to detail. The staff is friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home. The atmosphere is clean and comfortable, perfect for dining with family or friends. If you’re looking for authentic Chinese cuisine in the area, this is definitely the place to go—I’ll be coming back often!

Google
Always perfectly delicious, love the tofu and string bean vegetarian dishes. Inside has great air quality too. It's my favorite restaurant in Charleston!

Google
Ate lunch here and really enjoyed it. The hot chrysanthemum tea was great. All of the food was seasoned well, fresh and cooked to perfection!! The family style meals make it a great option for a group.

Sam R.

Google
This lively, authentic Chinese restaurant seats over 100, with family-style tables featuring spinning trays for easy sharing. I craved Peking duck, and their half-duck for $30 USD was perfect for one. Service was quick, staff friendly, and the experience delightful.

Queenie T.

Google
Food was delicious and authentic, they also have American Chinese food so something for everybody. We had their steamed fish, pork belly, and stir fried green beans, everything was great. Server was fantastic and very attentive. Wasn’t very busy when we went but he had every table that was seated (5 at the time).

Google
Best dumplings ever, the green beans were phenomenal, chili oil fish dish-I wanted to drink every bit of the broth. Huge portions and so inexpensive. Now serving beer!

Yelp
Frankly, my expectations weren't that high even after I discovered this place did make some vegetarian dishes. And it's one of those strip mall joints that has nothing like the atmosphere you'd get in the hip part of Charleston. However, what I received was an excellent quality tea, some complimentary vegetable side dishes, and a bangin' ma po tofu. Of the cold sides, the cabbage was extremely spicy (but good), the radish (I think) offered a nice crunchy contrast in textures, and the cucumber was not for me. My ma po tofu had visible fermented broad beans, dried chilis, and sichuan peppercorns, the proper ingredients which yielded a complex, ineffable flavor. Unfortunately had some broccoli in there too, which is neither Chinese nor good, but I picked it out and still had a good lunch and got out of there for under $20 with tip. I wasn't thrilled that they had little plastic forks, and I wish they offered more than one tofu dish (though there were interesting vegetables), but relative to any reasonable standard, this is as good quality food as I could possibly expect to find in this sort of place.

Yelp
Old Li's is one of the better Chinese restaurants in West Ashly. It's an easy drive for me coming in from Johns Island. Worth the short trip. They served a chicken vegetable dish that was wonderful!! I ate it all. The appetizers like my Gyoza was perfect. I really like coming here.

Yelp
This is an authentic restaurant located in West Ashley area. They serve a variety of Chinese cuisine and dishes that are difficult to track down at most Chinese restaurants in this area. I ordered the Yuxiang eggplant, Haven Shrimp, and Sweet and sour chicken. The sweet and sour chicken was crispy and had a flavorful sauce. The haven shrimp was fried shrimp tossed in onion and seasonings, a very unique dish and would be perfect for people who enjoy fried shrimp. The yuxiang eggplant was my favorite, braised eggplant in a sweet and sour sauce and goes perfect with rice. I ordered takeout, but the waitress was kind and helpful, service was great. There are plenty of tables to sit at, and i would not hesitate to bring friends here to enjoy some authentic Chinese food.

Yelp
This review is specific to the takeout service - haven't had the chance to dine in! The takeout orders are ready fairly quickly which is great for a weeknight meal. Easy in and out parking makes pick up stress free. Everything is stellar. The egg drop soup is some of my favorite I've ever had. The spring rolls were solid - crispy and a decent amount of filling. The pork fried rice and chicken fried noodles are favorites of ours! My husband likes their dumplings - steamed really well.

Yelp
I think we would have had a better experience by dining in. We did carry out and the containers were not filled to the top, maybe just a bit over halfway, barely any meat in the protein entrees we ordered, and portions were a lot smaller than what I'd seen in the restaurant. I was surprised the entrees didn't come with white rice, either. Had we known; we would have ordered some, but I'm so used to white rice coming with it. The food was good but again, I think had we dined in the experience would have been a lot better.

Mike M.

Yelp
Been driving past this place for 3 years, finally stopped. I don't recall ever having Chinese food this good. I'm sad about all the meals I could have had over the last 3 years. We will add this place to our regular rotation.
google avatar

Victoria B.

Yelp
My dad describes this as "the most authentic Chinese I've had in probably 30 years". Food was excellent, prices were fair (plates are family style), ambiance and service are lackluster - hence the 4 stars. Be prepared for spice! Started with pickled veggies on the house, a kimchi and zucchini and something I could not identify. Split vegetable spring rolls (3 per order) which were amazing. Then split Kung Pao chicken with white rice and Shrimp fried noodles. Had enough for leftovers and spent $36 for two people. They do minimal marketing/no social media, so if you're reading this review, please please please do yourself a favor and go!!
google avatar

Yelp
Have been wanting to try this place for awhile so finally got to today. As soon as we were seated they brought out 3 bowls of pickled vegetables. Pickled zucchini, pickled cabbage and spicy kimchi. All three were delicious! I ordered the spicy shrimp lunch special. It was a ton of food and the shrimp were huge, lots of crispy crunchy bell peppers , onion and steamed broccoli. This dish had amazing flavor and just enough spice. My husband had the kung pao chicken. The chicken was very tender with onions, peas, spicy peppers, broccoli. He said it was delicious and ate every bite. The interior was nothing great, actually could use some updating. But the food was amazing! We will be back.

Yelp
This is not the high-end expensive restaurants with waiters, wine experts, etc.... BUT... WOW THE FOOD! KP Chicken, shrimp fried rice, chicken soup, you name it..top of the line quality. The portions are Gargantuan!! We were 4, food enough for 8. A must try on your list. Frank G
google avatar

Greg H.

Yelp
The Mapo Tofu looked good as did the Spicy Shrimp, but were so salty we couldn't taste the food at all! My tongue went numb from too much salt, I can't even fathom what the cook was thinking. As a result, we will not be eating there again. Might just as well eat spoonfuls of table salt. No exaggeration, it was truly awful.

Lam N.

Yelp
Best hot and sour soup in town! Food is always hot and fresh. Best of luck at your new location.

Yelp
We lived in Yunnan for 18 years. We can say this is very authentic. We love the food here. Don't come for the atmosphere, come for authentic Chinese food. We loved the free appetizers that arrived as we sat down in the booth. All three dishes we got were great.
google avatar

Ryan H.

Yelp
The best thing about the place is the portions. The price is not cheap, but it is a great deal when you see the portions. Easy to share and have plenty. That Mafo Tofu or whatever it was called was excellent. Very soft tofu with great spice to it. The green beans would have been perfect other than too salty. We got the dumpling soup as well. Next time i will probably just get the dumplings but it was good and you got at least 6 and I think it was even more than that. We ordered too much for the 3 of us. They also served Tapas beforehand that were free. Spiced Cucumber, Kimchee, and something else that was very good. Our family really loved all 3 items and would come back for that and the Tofu. The service was lovely. Enjoyed our experience and I will be back.

Yelp
The only reason why I give it a 4 star is because you're not coming here for the atmosphere, the service (a teenager), who didn't pay attention to us at all or ask if we needed anything or drink refills. But you're coming here for the authentic delicious Chinese food! Finally tried out Old li's restaurant located in West Ashley off of Savannah Hwy! This is not your regular "Chinese food" this is actual Chinese food, super authentic, and extremely fresh! Their menu has so many unique dishes you'll never get at a Americanized Chinese food spot. This is a mom and pop shop run by the family! You know it's authentic and real when the kids are there helping too! Reminds me of when I used to help out my parents at their shops! This place is vegan and vegetarian friendly as well! Here are some of the dishes we got! It's family style plates and entree style and you get steamed white rice on the side to eat it with! If you're looking for an experience and delicious food you won't find anywhere else in Charleston, it's a must! We went Saturday night and there was no wait and no reservations needed. Also they do to-go orders too!

Yelp
If you want a foodie adventure, Old Li's is the place. When eating, I had to remind myself I was in Charleston, because this type of Chinese food is something I'd expect in a larger city. The menu items are certainly different than those I've seen anywhere else. After looking at the menu, my husband and I ordered Mapo Tofu, Kung Pao Shrimp, Spring Rolls, and Hot and Sour Soup, all to share. Admittedly, these are some of the "tame" options on the menu, and the portions are large and served family style. Come with a group or plan for leftovers. Even the "small" hot and sour soup was enough for both of us- with leftovers. The Kung Pao Shrimp was not as spicy as I expected. It was crispy and flavorful, and the sweetness of the pineapple cut the spiciness of the peppers. The spring rolls were also homemade and stuffed with vegetables, accompanied by a chunky sauce that puts typical takeout joints to shame. Don't let the exterior fool you. Old Li's isn't your average shopping center Chinese. It's worth stopping in to experience something new.

Jim K.

Yelp
We had family in town and got a bunch of takeout from Old Li's. This is hands-down one of the best takeout spots in Charleston. Every dish we got was piping hot and delicious. Actual recipes with good quality ingredients. We are vegetarian and had no trouble finding lots of great choices on this menu. The restaurant interior was very pleasant with lots of spacious booth to dine in. Even though there are closer places, this will be our go to spot when we are craving some good Chinese takeout.
google avatar

Ryan D.

Yelp
Food was freshly prepared but otherwise forgettable. Good chicken egg rolls. Very mid dumplings. Texture and flavor off. Sauce way too heavy on vinegar. Kung pao bland and not enough chicken. Noodles bland. Even for takeout/delivery disappointing.
google avatar

Florence X.

Yelp
I was really pleasantly surprised by this place. I thought it would be a primarily take out but it's a full sit down restaurant! We got their Peking duck which I didn't know how much I was craving till I saw it on the menu! It came out perfectly crispy and flavorful. The oyster pancakes had a great crunch and wasn't too doughy. The stir fried veggies was also a hit. The fish was also cooked and seasoned wonderfully too. I really loved my dinner here will definitely have to come back! The service was quick and the whole place felt very comfortable.
google avatar

Aisha L.

Yelp
I was visiting Charleston & had a taste for some fried rice Fried rice came out steaming hot but the peas in the rice was so hard like it wasn't cooked enough. Everything else was fine
google avatar

Yelp
Not your average Chinese joint Old Li's Restaurant! Lots of flavor flav!! It's definitely more pricier than your average Chinese, but this is the "real deal" We prefer quality over quantity, anyways ... but they achieved both! They start you off with their "bread" of the table. Kimchi, cucumbers and a believe the third was a type of fruit. We ordered the spring rolls, they were the freshest fried little rolls I've ever had! Then my husband and I always choose a non-spicy, noodle style dish, so our son can share that. Then we usually get a spicier dish, and we split that too. Our choices were the Noodles with beef, and then the griddled pork intestines. The noodles with beef weren't loaded with sauce, the noodles were perfectly cooked and the veggies were fresh! The pork intestines had a different texture that most, but the sauce was oh so flavorful, it had the perfect heat and again super fresh veggies! There are quite a few other dishes we would like to try ... we love different and love trying new! We will definitely be back. ;)

Lonnita C.

Yelp
I purchased the chicken wings, 3 Pieces Spring Roll, Kung Pao chicken, Sweet and sour chicken. Everything was horrible except for the spring rolls. The chicken (as pictured) looked burnt, extremely dry & tasteless. It also had a hint of sugar flavor. The sweet & sour chicken was bland & dry. I never had a sweet & sour chicken to taste anything such as. The dish tasted like sesame oil & simple syrup. The Kung Pao chicken taste like peas & carrots (which was in the dish, never seen this in my life of 40 years). Horrible flavor. What a waste of $40. Would not recommend.

Yelp
Travelling to Charleston and found this place on Yelp and it is only a few min from the hotel. I agree with some of the posts - the portions are generous. I ordered take out - 1. Stir Fried Green Beans - this is pretty close to the authentic flavor , A bit on the spicy side, but the mixed tenderness and crisp texture of the green beans is done well. 2. Kong Pao Chicken - it is a bit different than what I am used to. For one thing I've never seen peas in the dish. I am used to the savory and spicy flavor for this dish, and I think it is a bit too sweet. 3. Couple Lungs tablet - well, I am a bit disappointed - the chef's take on this dish, definitely differs from what I am used to. the thick sauce applied on top making the dish very salty but not feeling the usual numbness of the peppercorn. I don't particularly care for it. 4. Hot sour soup - Again - it is different from what I am used to but the flavor is decent. I would definitely recommend green beans and kong pao chicken (ask to light up on the sweetness).

Yelp
Not the first time me and the fiancé have been here. I'll be honest we go for the dumplings they are amazing. This time we got the dumplings, vegetable spring roll and the fired beef Lo Mein. Everything as always so good!
google avatar

Muz D.

Yelp
I don't have a problem with four stars. But I will stick with three. Clientele actually matters and reviews for me. A certain quality of people that come to the establishment means something. We all see things differently. Different strokes for different folks. You might think something is decent someone else might be blown away with it. It's just life. The whole time I was here there was a upper echelon energy about all the patrons. There was even a super classy group that came in to celebrate one's birthday. The menu and the people gives a vibe that this is a one-of-a-kind place to get Chinese cuisine that's not regular Chinese food. What kind of Drew me in the first place. The menu is definitely different not too expensive. The food comes out fast also. We ordered the crispy chicken. It was so good. It maintained its crispiness even after being sauced. Even the next day when I heat it up it still had a crisp to it. I ordered something called the chili chicken or something like that. It was freaking terrible. Tastes like it had cocaine in it. For some weird reason every time I eat it it numbs my tongue. I don't know if there's something exotic in the dish. But I tried to eat some of it three times within a day and a half and it rips my stomach and leaves my whole mouth numb. There's something in this dish that's super weird. Not the best taste either. The broccoli that came with my chicken was cold. Not the kind of cold you don't heat something up but the kind of cold you just pull it out the fridge. Not cool. But there are some exotic things on the menu. Will definitely please your palate if you're in the mood for Asian and different. I will be back if someone else pays. Lol.
google avatar

Yelp
My second time here, and again it was excellent! I have eaten about 9 different dishes at Old Li's and I was extremely satisfied with all of them. Very authentic flavors and way more interesting than your typical Charleston Asian restaurant. The two woman who run the front of the house are very nice and happy! They both have great smiles. I can't wait to try more dishes next time. The broth in all the soups are crazy flavorful. So do yourself a favor and split some soup while you are here.

Melinda M.

Yelp
Terrible not freshly cooked. expensive. you can to better. not crispy , Good chinese please!
google avatar

Sunny L.

Yelp
The only "authentic" Chinese restaurant in town that is not about your take out 4pc wings w/fried rice. You can actually find some menu you'd only see in China town. I've been to Old Li's 3 times so far, I got to say it's not like all their menus are great. Some menus I wish they cook better.(oyster pancake was a bit mushy and fried noodles were watery) But their Cold chicken is always awesome(watch out the bones!) Sweet & sour fish was great, the spicy green beans were awesome too. (Some of my friends said their duck and crawfish was great too) They give you a few side dishes like pickled cucumbers and kimchi, their kimchi had a taste like they added Gochujang so as Korean, that was no but who cares it's free lol The service is good, food comes out fast, servings are HUGE and most menus are under $13 for a family size.(I never finished my food, always have enough to take home) It's nice to see an authentic place like this in West Ashley. I definitely recommend this place if you are tired of overpriced places in DT and looking for something different. FYI, This is not a fancy restaurant or a date night spot. It's a neighborhood, wear stretch pants, go with a group to chow down with some beers kinda spot :)

Yelp
Great unassuming place. Tip--don't arrive at opening time. The oil is not heated yet and takes way too long to get your food. I did my order to go. The owner was in another part of the restaurant and she was loudly arguing with someone on the phone. I asked the hostess if she can tell her to take it to the back--and she did. The food was good. Dumplings were amazing and I forgot to take a pic. I also got the duck. I couldn't believe how generous a half portion was. No joke--I wanted to go back the next door and order it again.

Minor S.

Yelp
Wonderful menu with traditional Chinese large Sichuan plates, and beautiful presentation with relaxing flavors and atmosphere. Pickled vegetables and shrimp noodle appetizer, then dumpling soup, then boom, Peking duck was the real deal.

Russell S.

Yelp
Terrible, probably the worst Asian food we've ever had. Ordered the following thru Uber Eats: Crispy Beef - Large pieces of fried potatoes (a new one for me with asian food) and tiny pieces of beef - think loose ground beef. Dry and very salty, terrible Shrimp Dish (maybe Typhoon Shrimp, not sure my wife ordered) - Whole shrimp with head on, very difficult and messy to get the meat out, especially since it was way overcooked and so dry the meat stuck to the shell. Whole dish overcooked, terrible and also over salted Kung Pao Chicken - very citrusy, tastes a lot like sweet and sour chicken. Not good but was the most edible of the entrees Pork Fried Rice - dry and not very good, although it could be eaten Neither my wife or myself could not even eat the beef or shrimp dish, and ended up throwing all of it away, what an expensive waste.

Yelp
We heard about this restaurant from a friend. Being Easter Sunday, we weren't even sure they were open. We went early, and it was not real crowded. I never pass up a chance to eat Chinese so when my wife suggested it, I was all for it. The menu has a lot of choices from soups to appetizers and main courses. We were brought kimche radishes and something else (don't remember what it was but good) and ordered noodles, green beans, Kung pao chicken, and hot and sour soup. I have to say that most of it didn't taste like other restaurants I have eaten in. But, they were all delicious! Very unique renditions. Everything was spiced really well and was temperature hot. The portions were big enough that we brought it home for lunch the next day. We will definitely go back!
google avatar

Remi Louise F.

Yelp
Me and my husband loved our food. We have been eating alot of chinese takeouts but this one just stole our hearts. This is by far our favorite Chinese restaurant. Definitely a little more expensive than the regular Chinese restaurants but you will be paying for a much better and authentic chinese cooking. We will be back to try different dishes next time.
google avatar

Yelp
Overall, really satisfied. Most of the Chinese restaurants in Charleston seem to be fusion. Old Li's sticks to the classic Chinese dishes. We got the mouthwatering chicken, dong po pork belly, fried green beans, and eggplant. The mouthwatering chicken isn't cooked the traditional way but the chicken is really well-cooked: juicy and tender. The hot sauce adds a nice punch to the dish. I love fatty pork belly. If you love really fatty pork belly, your heart will sing (and die a little) at the sight of this soy-sauce braised melt-in-your-mouth fatty pork belly. They gave us a HUGE bowl of fried green beans. They were perfectly-cooked and well-seasoned. The eggplant is cooked in a tomato-based sauce. The dish is slightly sweeter than I prefer but I just love the texture of eggplant. The combination of eggplant and tomato also just warms my soul. Also, whoever is plating these dishes is a boss. They decorated the eggplant dish with a tree made out of sugar. So cool! Also, I appreciate the free cold veggies at the beginning and free fruit at the end.

Panayota E.

Yelp
So far so good! We only tried two items on the menu for takeout but we can't wait to go back for more! Very friendly staff!

Genny C.

Yelp
The place was amazing. The best place I've been to in Charleston. I had the lunch sweet and sour chicken and perfect. It was enough for two meals. Every plate I saw them bring out looked delicious. I would definitely recommend this place. The service was friendly and attentive. Didn't have to ask for a refill. She was right on it. A nice little hidden gem in West Ashley on Savannah highway next to Chick-fil-A

Steve M.

Yelp
While Old Li's has some of the normal Americanized Chinese dishes you find everywhere, it also serves up some excellent and unusual dishes you can't get anywhere else in Charleston. Before we even ordered, they started us with a small 3-plate Amuse-Bouches. When we had finished, they provided another order. Both the wife and I love Peking duck, which we have only found in large cities, which we can now get at Old Li's. The skin is super crispy, while the meat was moist without the fatty grease from ducks. The scallions and cucumber were meticulously cut thin, which fit perfectly in the very small wrap. While neither of us had heard of it before, we both agreed we would certainly get the Squirrel fish again. The whole fish is uniquely filleted in a dramatic fashion, fried, and then smothered in a sweet and sour sauce. O So good. The last dish was whole Spicy flounder. If you like hot dishes with a flavor, you can't find anywhere else, this dish brings it. Old Li's is a bit hidden off Savannah highway but is easy to get to, and an absolute must try.

Yelp
An underrated family owned Chinese restaurant, the food is delicious but it's very quiet due to its the location and dated restaurant interior. I wish someone would invest in the restaurant and bring it to a better location and with better interior and service. The teenager daughter helps take the order and she's not so friendly. The parents are very nice but barely speak much English, I feel bad for their slow business but we really need a decent authentic Chinese restaurant in the Charleston area.
google avatar

Opal D.

Yelp
Actually good ma po tofu. The most authentic Chinese food I've found in Charleston so far.
google avatar

Patti L.

Yelp
Nice little dining environment. Food was phenomenal. Fresh. Large GENEROUS portions. Every bite of every dish was so delicious. We will definitely be back.

Limuel S.

Yelp
This is not your American Chinese. It is more authentic from my travels in Asia. The Fish in Chili Oil and Mapo Tofu are excellent. Will try another dish when I visit Charleston again.
google avatar

Terinna C.

Yelp
Will Chinese food ever be affordable to me again? I feel like this must be a Charleston thing. Even the neighborhood Chinese places are expensive to eat at (sad face). Dong po rou- was just as I remembered the way my grandma made it. Extremely flavorful, decadent, and melt in your mouth. Their sauce was just the right amount of sweet and savory. I actually want to go back to get this dish right now as I'm writing this. Please order and try it. Their saliva chicken is not good. I didn't like their village's way of making it. I'm used to Szechuan style where the chili oil is clear, vibrant in spiciness and savoriness- and not thick and sour. Theirs almost had a curry like thickness to it. Also it was the first time I had saliva chicken as a cold dish and not a hot dish. I understand- to each their own. Just not me. Their service was what I expected any Chinese restaurant to be. Slightly kind but also rushed and straight to the point, am I back in China? Haha. We also ordered their steamed dumplings- this sucks because of my grandma and my mom, I'm used to certain fillings. The amount of ingredients they put into it, I can guarantee it was house made and not store bought. It was still very delicious but just not what I expected. So try it if you'd like to!!

Jordan A.

Yelp
Would definitely recommend! Family owned authentic Chinese food served family style. Very quick food service, in less than 10 minutes we had all our food out. Left happy and with full bellies!!

Don't bother!!..rip off artists...hot and sour soup , awful. Taste too sweet..should be called duck sauce soup. Dumplings are mediocre. Taste o.k. but fall apart. Sauce is just there, no effort to put any flavor in it.

Yelp
Good food but the place is not clean at all. Unprofessional service.

Yelp
Authentic Chinese! If you are looking for Ambience this is not your place.. but if you are looking for more authentic Chinese, this is it. More like a cafeteria kind of setting... paper napkins in holders on the tables, no silverware, candles, flowers or plates are set up. No reservations are required. No beer/wine license as of yet. Pepsi co products, green tea (hot/cold) for drinks. We were greeted with 3 types of fermented vegetables- kimchi, cucumber & radish. VERY NICE TOUCH & Delicious! There were 5 of us.. Ordered a smorgasbord of delicacies. 3pc spring roll, 2 chicken egg rolls, cabbage dish, spicy tofu dish, chicken in wine dish, kung pao shrimp dish, beef and green pepper dish and they were out of crab & the chicken nuggets...so we skipped another seafood dish and ordered the sweet and sour chicken with the sauce on the side.. we all thought that everything was quite excellent except for the fried chicken it was really really overcooked.. the hospitality of probably the owner (Mother, perhaps) was wonderful, she seemed happy to oblige. The younger girl was also very nice. The quantity was plentiful, we all left with a little to take home. Our drinks were refilled continuously.. Prices were inline also. Very good meals! Only complaints, no ambience, diner style paper napkins & the fried chicken pieces- they took home for the dogs. No beer/wine- yet. Kudos: Food, Service, Cleanliness

Yelp
Finally some authentic chinese food!! Flavors were strong and diverse. Got the eggplant, green beans, sticky pork ribs, shrimp "haven" (salt and pepper), and veggie lo mein. Everything was so delicious. Most dishes are spicy so be wary of what you order. Spice was mild though. Definitely coming back to try more of their menu. Service was fine, pretty sure only the front of house girl speaks english but the cooks run the food out to the tables are very nice, no english though. You don't go to a chinese restaurant for the service, you go for the food!

Yelp
这么好. O M G. This was beyond delicious. My Chinese friend says if it was any more authentic I wouldn't eat it. I'm not sure about that, but I am positive I can't wait to come back.

Yelp
Service and food quality was poor. They need to make a better effort if they want repeat customers.

Yelp
Best authentic Chinese place in Charleston. Prices are a bit much but I literally can't find another place that's this good around here. Also the prices seem steep at first but the portion sizes are HUGE so it's actually really worth the money.
