"If you want to escape the Cannery Row madness, stay at this cozy bed and breakfast styled after an English manor. Even though it’s only a five-minute drive from all the restaurants in downtown Monterey and Pacific Grove, it feels far away from everything. For a romantic getaway, stay in their old carriage house or the garden cottage—both come with a jacuzzi tub that you’ll love soaking in at the end of a long day. If you’re the type to write reviews of the newest mystery novel on Goodreads, consider staying in their converted library guest room with books lining the walls, a stone fireplace, and some plush armchairs worth sinking into. Expect to pay about $400-600 a night, depending on the room." - allison green

Wendy was wonderful to us. Even though she wasn’t feeling well she still welcomed us with warmth and great hospitality. She even left out the cheese and wine for us to enjoy one of the days when we were out late. The house is extremely beautiful and even had a piano, which I was able to play on. The breakfast was delicious and service was top notch. My mom really enjoyed her stay but would just recommend that the rooms were a bit warmer as the heat didn’t really spread throughout the room. Wendy did provide us a a plug in heater though. I enjoy the cold, so I was fine but maybe for older folks who get cold easily will need more heat. They also have a cat name Theo who has a human like personality that greeted us as soon as we arrived and even led us to the front door. Will Recommend this place to my friends if they are ever to visit. Thank you 🥰 P.S. Parking was so easy and the location is super close to everything

I couldn’t have more positive things to say about this Inn if I tried! My fiancé and i stayed here during our trip to Northern California from New Jersey. I found it just searching through the Monterey area on Google maps. The reviews were outstanding and the price for 2 nights was great for us. The pictures do not do it justice! Its location is perfect- tucked away in a very quiet neighborhood, but still only a 20min walk into town. We stayed in the Rookery room on the top floor. We had an electric fire and breakfast brought to our room both mornings. The food was delicious & the service was fantastic. They even had “wine and cheese happy hour” from 4-6 supplied in the downstairs living room. Couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay during our trip. We hope to return someday soon!

This was by far one of the best stays my wife and I have had in years. The in itself is one of the more unique and beautiful ends we have stayed at. However the innkeeper, Wendy could teach courses on hospitality management. She insured our stay was memorable and peaceful. She was fanatical about her attention to detail to ensure every aspect of our stay was exceptional. We cannot recommend this in enough.

Our first stay in a B&B. The property is very charming, decorated very tasteful and clean. The service was a 5 star plus. Our morning breakfast consisted of veggie omelet, home made croissant, fresh squeezed o.j., coffee and fruit was perfect. The grounds were lovely and perfect to sit outside and enjoy nature. The hospitality of the host, Wendy, she was so accommodating, kind, knowledgeable, considerate. You could tell she loved her job and her guests. We loved visiting with the other guests during breakfast. Lovely experience. Thank you Gary, April, Mike and Dawn.

Google
The most perfect experience. Wendy and the innkeepers were all super friendly and accommodating. The free breakfast is all homemade and fresh. We stayed in the Chawton and wow, what a cozy stunning room. Seriously, I want to gatekeep this place but it deserves more recognition. The garden and everything was so beautiful. If I come back to Monterey/Carmel in the future, there’s no doubt I would rebook a stay here. Everything felt clean and I did not have a hard time falling asleep. Not a far drive from most activities including the aquarium, Carmel and Cannery Row.

I stayed at this B&B for one night recently. Overall, I would definitely recommend to anyone needing accommodation in Monterey or the surrounding area. Pro: the bed and pillows were incredibly comfortable. For being an older-looking building, I could not tell anyone else was staying here because it was so quiet Neutral: there is enough parking on-site, but it can be tricky to get into some of them Con: none. Book it! There was a wine a cheese gathering in the late afternoon and breakfast available in the morning. I was unable to partake in either, but both looked quite good.

Google
Easily the best hotel I’ve ever stayed at. If you’re the kind of person (like me) who wonders why certain hotels have certain star ratings (access to a spa or fitness center or multiple in-hotel restaurants? couldn’t care less), this was truly a 5 star experience. The building itself is breathtakingly gorgeous, updated in all the right places but with so much historic charm. The breakfasts were insanely good as well. My only “complaint” is that I actually wish the location were further from so many great activities in the city so we would’ve had an excuse to spend the entire vacation in our room and the garden. Worth every penny!

The Old Monterey Inn is a hidden treasure tucked away in a quiet neighborhood. Our room was comfortable, and we loved the delicious breakfast served in the beautiful dining room. A lush garden surrounds the property adding ambiance to the Inn.|The staff was very friendly and attentive to our needs. Cheese and wine are provided between 16:00 and 18:00 each day which added a wonderful touch to our stay. We will be back.

Yelp
This inn is very quaint, and definitely exudes that garden B&B vibe. The house is gorgeous with rich wood tones from floor to ceiling. It features a grand entry way framed with ivy and beautiful English gardens. I could not get over how lovely the lobby and lounge were. The staff were extremely accommodating and friendly. Off the lobby there is a communal fridge available for use (the rooms don't have their own). It is stocked with some sodas, which was a nice option to have. Our room was small but comfortable. I adore the doors in the room- the main door features a bright stained glass window and the bathroom door is a solid and beautiful piece of wood. There were plenty of pillows and blankets provided, as well as a nice fireplace. Everything was very clean- especially in the bathroom where our 2-person jetted tub was. They provide robes to lounge in which is a nice touch. In the evening they had a wine and snack hour in the lounge. That made for a pleasant start to our evening as we enjoyed the outdoor fountain humming alongside the classical music they were playing. Breakfast the next morning was tasty and featured an array of fresh berries and fruit. The waffle was fluffy and served with syrup. We chose to eat in the communal dining room and enjoyed a good chat with another couple staying there. The inn is located pretty much in the middle of Monterey- it is walking distance to restaurants but be aware that there are hills in that area. If you choose to stay here (and you should!) dont forego a little snooping in cupboards! We found a few diary books dating back to 1997, and had a blast reading about everyone's adventures in Monterey from so many years ago.

Yelp
A quaint hidden jewel! We loved our stay here. You are served by the owner herself, who is full of energy and care about your stay! She has covered every little detail to make your stay as comfortable and wonderful as possible. We stayed in the Stone Leigh which is a building separate from the house, which we liked a lot. The bed was a dream it was so comfortable! Breakfast was hot, delicious, and creative. The Inn is over 100 years old and has been kept up nicely. The grounds are a delight. Thank you Wendy, we're so glad we stayed here and hope to come back.

Yelp
Love this place! This is our go-to lodging in the Monterey-Carmel area. Wendy and her crew are the friendliest innkeepers you could want. We have stayed three times since 2021, each time in the Cottage, a small separate building near the main house. It has a living room and sitting room separated by an arch. There's a gas fireplace in the sitting area and a huge jacuzzi tub. The toilet room, which is where the shower is, is *tiny*; that's the only drawback. The morning crew brought us breakfast at the cottage every day. Great breakfasts that managed to stay hot despite the distance from the kitchen. Otherwise there is a big dining table in the dining room in the house. Wine in the evening (we didn't attend). The house looks like an old English country estate. It's an historic property about a 15 minute walk from FIsherman's Wharf, which keeps it close to everything but away from the noise of downtown. The cottage was very quiet. We hope we will be able to enjoy many stays there!

Yelp
I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this B&B. We booked and confirmed our reservation by calling to confirm (we had read some unflattering reviews). This place is so cute and walking distance to downtown Monterey and about 5-10 min drive to the Wharf and Cannery Row. After checking in, we were taken to our room and shown the fridge, wine hour location, breakfast area and coffee/ tea station. Our room was small but quaint. We had a fire in our fireplace on a daily basis, enjoyed the down pillows and bedding. Staff brought us breakfast to our room every morning between 9-9:30 am. My husband and I would drive to Lover's Point each morning for a run and make it back in time for a hot and fresh breakfast. We also got to partake in the wine hour and enjoyed the variety of snacks and hors d'oeuvres. Overall staff were amazing and attentive, breakfast was delicious!!! My favorites were the waffles and French toast. We also enjoyed seeing a Doe and it's fawns in the yard. Our stay in Monterey was magical and this place definitely contributed to the experience.

Yelp
We have stayed at OMI three times, each visit in a different room. What makes this Inn special is a large list of must have's for me. Ambiance, charm, warm hospitality, consistent great breakfasts, along with a generous wine and cheese social offering are a few on my list. Each room, so adorable and cozy. The gardens are also an inviting place to sit and relax, sip your wine (or beer or whatever) and take in the peaceful surroundings. Mornings in the garden are great, evenings even better! Innkeeper Wendy has been with OMI for many years and her love and appreciation for the Inn as well as the guests cannot be overlooked. I love talking with her, or getting some information on a good place to eat or something new and fun to do. If you enjoy BnB's this one is a must stay in Monterey.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here recently for a weekend trip. Upon arrival we went to the main inn to check in and was greeted by the Innkeeper, Wendy. She was very helpful and friendly. She gave us a tour of everything on the main building to help us feel welcome. Though we had arrived at the tale end of the evening wine and snack time she even offered to refresh things for us. We don't drink much wine had ordered the fruit and cheese platter ahead of time so it wasn't necessary though. The platter in our room was a lovely treat with plenty for 2 people and a wide array of options. We had the Chawton Room, which has a separate entrance from the main inn. It was very quaint and private. I had trouble deciding which room to book so I included some extra photos to help others decide. It includes a jacuzzi tub for two in the en suite bathroom, and a gas fireplace in the wall. The room is very cozy, but with only luggage for a weekend it worked well. There is no full length hanging space for clothing, just a short armoire. I was surprised but as our clothing was not overly formal it worked out okay. Due to covid spread increasing again, we opted to have breakfast in our room and they brought it over each morning with tray tables. It was very delicious and unique each day, and as a vegetarian it was nice they didn't serve meat for me to have to make a special request to avoid. Be sure to try the amazing hot chocolate if you don't need your AM coffee! Thank you to Wendy and the rest of the Inn staff for a lovely weekend.

Yelp
The Old Monterey Inn is very beautiful. The rooms are very nice and the gardens are fantastic. The breakfasts are wonderful and we enjoy the wine and cheese in the evening. However, it's obvious that the current owners are not taking care of the property like the previous ones. When you look out an upstairs window at the roof of the cottage below it's obviously I need of repair or replacement. As I walk around the property and inside the home I see many places that the current owner should be paying closer attention to. It is a shame that a beautiful property like this is being allowed to deteriorate. I doubt it will remain part of the exclusive group of inns that it currently enjoys.

Bill P.

Yelp
A very expensive, small cramped room with a postage stamp sized bathroom up three flights of stairs; electrical outlets that were scarce and hit and miss; and a check in and welcome from a hotel employee who had all the charm of a Soviet border guard and the warmth of an unhappy Motor Vehicles Department clerk. Other than that, it rose to the level of sort of OK.

Yelp
This is the most relaxing B&B we have ever stayed at! Beautiful rooms, gorgeous gardens with sitting areas. While having a glass of wine two curious deer watched less than 20 feet away! With the window open you get the crisp cool air, the fresh floral scents of literally hundreds of flowers. We woke up to birds chirping truly a great stay! We stayed in the Mayfield room which has a large whirlpool bathtub, fire place big garden windows and beautiful art on the walls! The staff is amazing they took care of every need. From the beginning to the end the staff went above and beyond we've stayed on the peninsula many times but this is our new spot! Loved our stay. Huge thanks to Wendy and Daisy you guys are amazing thank you for covering every detail! We

Yelp
I'd give it 4.5 stars. We stayed here 10+ years ago and enjoyed it but had forgotten the name of the inn. We don't always stay at B&B's but wanted to splurge for a belated anniversary. Pros - The staff was very nice and accommodating. They have port in the den and serve wine, cheese, fruits, etc. for a couple of hours each evening. We didn't realize it was a vegetarian B&B when we booked, but it was a nice surprise. We loved having a jacuzzi tub and having our breakfast in our room. They have unlimited cold drinks as well as coffee and tea. Cons - We were on the second floor and the temperature in our room was between 75 and 76°, even with the windows open in the evening. As many others have said, we also found the bed to be uncomfortable. It seemed nice and fluffy at first, however, it was fluffed up more in the middle and the mattress ended up being harder than we expected. We both woke up sore the next day. Not to mention, if one of us rolled over in the middle of the night, it woke up the other one. Other - We had a binder in our room with various information such as things to do and places to eat. It also listed several movies that appeared you could borrow, however nothing was said to us when we were shown our room so I'm not sure if that's an option they still offer. I originally wanted to stay an extra night but was thankful we didn't due to the mattress being so uncomfortable.

Yelp
OHHH MY GOSSHHH I stayed here for my anniversary, at the Mayfield suite, and its perfect. The bed sheets were the softest I've been in, the jet tub was perfectly clean. Wendy was awesome and I wanted to stay here longer! The house is gorgeous and the gardens are cute. The breakfast was SO GOOD. We usually stay at the spindrift on cannery row but the price is the same here and 10000% worth it

Michalann A.

Yelp
This started out as a cute little place near the ocean. The room was cute and had all the necessities of a normal hotel room. We had a king sized bed, definitely needed more pillows. The first night was quiet but the second night, we found out the walls were thin and could hear a very large group getting hammered next door and partied into the early morning hours. We could hear ever word. Finally around 1am they hushed and passed out. I wouldn't stayed here again with huge groups next to me. It was loud and the people were obnoxious. The staff was great. It just sucks that the walls are so thin. Maybe one day again but not anytime soon.

Yelp
3-1/2 stars Among the high points, we were very impressed with Wendy. She was very sweet, thoughtful, and thorough. And we appreciate that she was on call if there were any urgent matters. Other staff were also very friendly. Overall, we liked the ambience of the place, our room, and the beautiful garden. It was a special treat to see the deer in the garden area. The wine, cheese, crackers, and spreads were nice. And we appreciated having a bottle of port available each night. We also appreciated the abundance of free bottled water and drinks. The Inn provided very helpful written instructions for making the most of places to visit including a day trip to Big Sur. These instructions were immensely helpful. Where things fell short for us were 1) Our room was on the third floor and too warm the first night. We woke up overheated and had to open up all our windows. We didn't sleep well that night. I would imagine that rooms on the lower floors are more comfortable. 2) Our mattress had an odd lump in the middle and sloped down on the sides. I was surprised to see other complaints about this on Yelp over a year ago. So, it seems to be a lingering issue that has not been addressed. 3) Breakfast was ok, but not repeat worthy. We were limited to one item and a side of mixed fruit. On our first morning, we had what seemed like a souffle that one of us liked and the other didn't. On our second morning, we had French toast and a side of artificial maple syrup. The French toast was good, but coupled with fruit, it was just too much carbs and sugar and no protein. An egg side dish would have helped. All of the above areas are easily fixable that would make this Inn deserving of 4 stars.

Yelp
From the excelent rooms, service and complimentary breakfast in bed each morning, my husband and I couldn't be more happy with our time spent here. When we arrived we were greated to appetizers and wine in the main room infront of their charming fireplace. They do this for all guests each day at 5pm to 6pm. They also have fresh baked cookies, coffee and tea at all hours too. When we went to our Mayfield Suite we were surprised by red roses, chocolate truffles, strawberries drizzeled in chocolate and a wonderful bottle of Brut Champange. The inn keeper and staff even left us cute honeymoon best wishes cards for us to read. Each morning we had a wonderful breakfast in bed at 9am. The food was fresh and hot. Kudos to their chef! It was a delightful way to start each morning. In regards to our suite, the bed and sheets were the most comfortable we have ever experienced. The inn was intamite and quiet too, so we could really enjoy this special time together. The room is charming and beautifully decorated. The staff also did an excellent job cleaning and replenishing things each day. The overall inn and grounds are serene and beautiful too. Beautiful plants, flowers and charming little details throughout as well. We also had a WONDERFUL couple's massage at the spa onsite and that was heaven on earth. It was warm in the room, infront if the fireplace and very romantic and relaxing. My husband even fell asleep! We reccomend this in to any other honeymooners, couples, or guests who are in need of some luxury, charm, and relaxation.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of the Inn and Wendy the Innkeeper. We spent two nights over Christmas weekend. The room was great and so was the breakfast. The inn has lots of character and charm and the gardens are beautiful. I would definitely go back. The staff is service oriented and they take pride in making your stay comfortable.

Ed M.

Yelp
This place is really nice! One of the nicest places we have stayed at. It's an old hotel so everything is vintage and old timey. We stayed one night and the staff was wonderful! She was super nice and answered all our questions with a smile. We got a delicious breakfast in bed. They have a beautiful garden area. The only thing that was not up to standard was the Tv. It was hidden behind some small doors on the wall and it was kinda beat up and falling apart, but we didn't go to watch tv so it was fine lol.

Yelp
My wife and I got away for two nights to her favorite places in California, Monterey. This is the first time we've stayed here and we are so thankful we did. The architecture on this 1929 property is absolutely stunning and yes the rooms are quaint but also very relaxing. We stayed in the chawton room and are glad we did. A deep soaking tub my wife enjoyed several times during her stay and the gas fireplace created a nice ambience. The morning breakfast delivered to our door was delicious each Fay including adjusting for allergy concerns. Wendy and the entire staff were great ti work with. We will be back.!!

Yelp
Loved this romantic b&b for many reasons. First off, check out my photos--wonderful gourmet breakfast served at the very decent hour of 9am. The manager and her greeter, Brittany, were both darling, helpful and warm throughout our stay. The gardens are lush peppered with fairy gardens as well as redwoods! There are some great seating areas around the garden and they creatively hide the parking lot in the back of the Estate behind the gardens so beautiful scenery is abound. We were lucky enough to stay two nights and take in a long walk, the aquarium, and downtown. We stayed in Stoneleigh which had a very nice sitting room with gas fireplace and jacuzzi tub. While my husband and I admittedly prefer queen beds, their bedding was amazingly soft and loved their robes--they even gave free slippers for you to take home with you. We borrowed a couple dvds from their library and we stayed in and nestled with a nice bottle of bubbly. LOVED: the little things like coffee and tea access all the time, baggies of ice and drinks in a common fridge And microwave in a small common room, and even a car care station for spraying your windshield before you leave for your next adventure. OPPORTUNITY: our bed seemed soft, when we turned we could really notice each other--maybe it was the style, we do prefer a firm mattress with a topper or mattress cover. The wine and cheese inclusion was a nice touch, simple and set in their family room --we enjoyed meeting guests from Chicago and the Central Valley during our stay. We would love to return--the new owner is investing back in the in and she has hit it out of the park with the current staff in place. IMO, it's what really makes the experience--people who care and take great pride in what they do but still had our privacy in a quiet, lovely room.

Yelp
Cute bed and breakfast spot in Monterey. If you arrive late they leave the key for you in a mailbox with instructions. The suite has a jacuzzi tub and they also have a massage room onsite. They have a separate fridge in the hallway full of water drinks and yogurt. Would recommend this place if you are looking for a bed and breakfast in Monterey

Laila A.

Yelp
We had a wonderful time here for our honeymoon. Wendy and the staff were extremely nice and caring. They left us a note wishing us the best during our stay. The breakfast in bed was delicious, and the afternoon cheese and snacks were very memorable. Wendy even gave us great life advice as newlyweds! I truly found a friend in her. :) We will definitely come back here for our anniversary!

Terry L.

Yelp
What a wonderful location. People are so accommodating and friendly. They are pet friendly and I am a local Petsitter. Even though I was not staying there, the staff brought me breakfast as I was in the room with my clients pet. Beautiful gardens, lovely location and setting for weddings. The lovely sitting room with crackling fireplace was just the spot for a glass of wine before dinner. Please if you are going to be in the area consider Old Monterey Inn. Terry Lane, Terrys Loving Care Petsitting Svc.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here on our babymoon & received the babymoon package. It was WONDERFUL! Our package included a massage for both of us and we got a dinner voucher to a local restaurant (we chose Fandango's and it did not disappoint!). We stayed in the Chawton cottage which included a fireplace and a jacuzzi tub. Both of these amenities were taken advantage of. We had the option to eat with the other guests at a beautiful dining table inside the main house or have the food delivered to us - we chose to have it delivered each day and it was really a treat. The B&B is about a 5 minute drive from Fisherman's Wharf and Cannery Row which was very convenient. It is also about a 10 minute drive to Carmel. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone else. The staff was wonderful and accommodating and we have great memories to look back on :).

Bella S.

Yelp
It's an old charming hotel that clearly had its hay day in 2001. Everything is extremely dated and they know this. Which is why they will claim damages over absolutely nothing. Do not recommend as you will end up spending 2x as much on their false claims as you would on the room! Not worth it!

Tobie M.

Yelp
Everything about this inn was charming. The property is beautiful, the home historic and lovely, and the innkeeper very accommodating. We hit traffic on our way to the inn, and Maria kindly stayed a half hour past check-in time to make sure we got our keys. She even gave us a tour of the inn and the grounds after that. The inn is not near the beach, so if you want a view of the bay, this isn't the place for you. Beautiful views of Monterey Cypress, Oaks, and the landscaped yard. The inn a short walk to several charming restaurants, coffee, and a book store near city hall. We would definitely stay here again.

Saravanan B.

Yelp
This place is a classic. If you are in town and want to stay in a place with great ambience, breakfast, lavish room better check this place out. The inn keepers were amazing and friendly. I will go back here again.

Yelp
To be frank, I was quite disappointed in my stay at the Old Monterey Inn. The place was super charming and cute but definitely needs a facelift. I have stayed at a different Four Sisters Inn and had a wonderful experience so my expectations were quite high. First off, I had an issue with payment. Before booking, I called several different inns because I needed a place that could accommodate 3 people. It looked like most inns in Monterey were really tailored to couples and had rooms that could only accommodate 2. Old Monterey Inn had one room that could accommodate 3, the Ashford Suite, so I ended up booking that one over the phone. During my booking, there was no mention of an additional fee. When I looked online and read through their pricing, there is no mention of an additional fee. I got an email with the invoice of what I had put down for a deposit and what I would owe, no written statement about an additional fee. But on the day we arrived and checked in, I was suddenly told that we would be charged an additional fee for $50 per night for the 3rd person. What the heck? But on top of the additional fee, the room itself was not prepared to have 3 people. They still only had 2 robes, 2 slippers, 2 towels, etc. If you are going to charge people extra for having another person, at least make the effort to accommodate the room too. My other issue is that the bathroom had a very dirty, oily, dark around the ring of the tub. I called the innkeeper and asked to have it cleaned before we came back in the next day. However, when we came back to our room after our 2nd day at the inn, the mark was still there. No one had come by to clean which was disappointing since I had wanted to use the tub. The main bed in our suite was very uncomfortable. There was a very strange, long lump in the middle of the bed. About 2 feet of space in the middle was bumped up about 4 inches. It was really odd. They definitely need to switch out that mattress. On our last day at the inn, I called the innkeeper twice but got the voicemail. I finally ended up leaving a message about getting some more toilet paper. An hour went by and no one showed up so I had to go downstairs and grab a roll myself. Overall, the staff was very nice and the breakfast was delicious. However, for the price that I paid, I would have expected a bit more attention to detail and comfortable standards. I really don't think that it was fair of them to charge me more for an additional person without telling me about it first. Had I known, I would not have booked a stay with them.

Lauren J.

Yelp
This place is quite charming, however I must say my husband and I were disappointed with the bed in our suite (Ashford Suite). The mattress was incredibly misshapen - there was a huge bump in the middle of the mattress and it caused each side of the bed to awkwardly lean downwards at an angle. Being 8 months pregnant, this made sleeping nearly impossible. Additionally, I understand the style is old school, however the knobs of our shower fell off multiple times during our stay this weekend. Finally, when using their printer to print off a boarding pass, the ink ran out mind way through... Could be a great place, but needs a refresh...

Yelp
Sooo beautiful.our bedroom was amazing.the room was small.but it had an amazing jacuzzi in the bathroom.so relaxing. I got to come for my 15 year anniversary. It is within walking distance of the warf and many other places. The beautiful garden there is worth just hanging out outside.breakfast was also served either in your room or you can go inside and eat with other guests.at 4 they have appetizers with wine.they have coffee and tea and port wine 24 hrs.they also have a fridge for guest full of refreshment. I loved this place

Stacy M.

Yelp
This was such a sweet gem of a place to stay and experience Monterrey. I wanted to surprise my husband with a two year anniversary get away. As I searched I found this place and discovered the library room (we are big readers) and was immediately sold. The staff was very accommodating as we had a 9 hour drive and arrived after check in hours. The person on the phone walked me through as to how to access our room and it was very easy. The Inn was decorated in an antique fashion that complements the architecture of the house, some previous reviews felt it was outdated, but I personally feel you would do a dis justice to such a place to decorate in any other way as it takes you back in time. Everything about this place allows for a great experience with coupons by the door for certain restaurants for a complimentary appetizer along with information about all the attractions Monterrey has to offer. They also serve a beautifully arranged breakfast in your location of choice (in the dining area of the house or bedroom), and horsdoeuvres and drinks in the evening. It has a beautiful garden you can wander through and there were even deer that would graze on the grass early in the morning that we could see from our balcony! I swear I felt like Cinderella here! Also, I personally liked that this place was a little bit away from all the hustle and bustle of the aquarium and tin cannery area. After touring around and being shoulder to shoulder with people all day it's nice to come back to a quiet place like this. I know this place is known for couple to have a little getaway on a baby moon and I definitely plan on coming back for that experience when the time comes!!! Love this place!

Only stayed here 1 night while I was in town with my mom for the Big Sur Half Marathon in November. (My mom is a huge fan and has stayed here a few times in the past in various rooms, but it was my first time here.) Overall, I thought the place was really nice. Wendy from the front desk was extremely sweet and helpful and really took the time to talk and show us (mostly me, since I was new) around. The property is located slightly off a main road, but is still a good walk away from the main center of town where the Aquarium and such are. I'd say it's perfectly suited if you're looking for more of a getaway and plan on spending more time in your room or driving. If you want to be central, there are other places. I thought the way they did the property itself was also really nice. You do still get the sense that you're surrounded by other houses pretty close by, but the garden makes for a nice sitting area and backdrop from the rooms above. As for the room, ours was really lovely, but I think it's also one of the nicest at the Inn overall. We had a living room and a huge Jacuzzi - great for pre-dinner soaks with lavender bath salts and a small glass of port and a plate of cheese. It worked well for us as mother and daughter (or if you are a couple), but I know my parents would also likely avoid this room as the jacuzzi (which is hard to get in and out of the way it's set up) is pretty central, and the bathroom is very small and a few steps down from the bedroom. Favorite parts of the room were all the light that comes into the cozy bedroom with the great views of the garden in the reading nook, and the living room with the fireplace and the port. On sunnier days, having your own tiny terrace in front may also be lovely for reading a paper in the morning. Love the small touches like the port in the main living room and the wine and cheese happy hour in the spacious, warm living room with the fireplace. My biggest complaint with this place would be the breakfast. Other inns I've stayed in around Oregon and in California offer at least two selections, and have a window of time (even if short) or two different seatings when you can all come down to breakfast. It worked perfectly fine for us since I had run the race the day before so we didn't have much on our agenda that next day, but I can see where it would be less convenient if you're trying to start your day earlier or later. We did meet lovely people at breakfast, though, as everyone is seated together. There is also only one option for breakfast, and my mom had said it doesn't change much from stay to stay. Again, one of my favorite things at other inns has been the breakfast - my mom and I will each try one of the options and share (homemade French toast with fresh fruit, omelette with local vegetables, etc) and here it was just an egg souffle. A delicious egg souffle, of course, but I would have loved some other options, especially if you plan to stay a while or come back often. Overall, it's a great inn in Monterey. Love what was done with it and the great customer service by Wendy. If I were to come back to Monterey, I would personally probably try another place out as well, as I imagine each stay would be very similar with the breakfast and otherwise, but would recommend it as a couple's getaway en route to Big Sur or other great California coast options.

Yelp
We have stayed here twice and love our experience each time. I will say this is the only Bed & Breakfast I have ever stayed at but it was a good experience. The first time we stayed in the Chawton which I liked because it was private but nicely appointed the second time we stayed in the Ashford and WE LOVED IT. The Ashford has a sitting room which is nice if someone goes to bed later than the other or rises earlier, etc. The room was bright and welcoming. I did feel the bathroom shower/tub were on the small side which you don't expect in a room so nice but I am assume they kept it historically accurate within reason. We liked the Chawton but loved the Ashford so I would opt for that. The customer service was top notch. The cocktail hour was a nice way to mingle and chat. We personally found the breakfast too sweet for our liking but it was beautiful in presentation. I think this is a great place for a romantic getaway as it is very secluded and off the beaten path. That said I find myself enjoying staying a bit closer to the action in Monterey.

Yelp
Yes, a little (okay, a lot) out my league, but we splurged last night! Probably the most beautiful, romantic place you could imagine. Amazing old ivy-covered English Tudor mansion close to downtown Monterey. Grounds and gardens to die for. Flawless service, rooms, bathrooms, you name it. Aveda bath products, chocolates, fresh cookies, hot coffee and tea and wine/appetizers in the lounge/lobby. All this plus totally incredible breakfast to be served either in the dining room or in your room....loved that! They thought of everything here and carried it out to absolute perfection. Many rooms have gigantic whirlpool tubs with tiny jars of Aveda bath salts and tealight candles. That alone made me a very happy girl! We stayed in the "Chawton" room. Its super tiny, but so charming and sweet with a big bathroom, fireplace, and private entrance. Even better, this place doesn't make the mistake of having decor that reminds you of your girly childhood bedroom with frilly crap all over the place! Hurry up and make a reservation for you and your luvaaah. It's pricey. It's worth it.

Yelp
My husband and I booked the elopement package and stayed in the cottage. What a lovely B&B! We met Katy ahead of time on a scouting trip and she and the property impressed us so much, we didn't even look elsewhere. Our room was really nice, and the bed was very comfortable. Our fireplace and hottub really added to the ambiance. A college friend who was across the country sneakily coordinated with Katy and had shipped us a gift, which along with chilling champagne was waiting for us when we arrived. The contract was simple and straightforward, basically saying don't bring your brothers band, 40 of your closest friends, or wreck the grounds. It all seemed quite reasonable. The ceremony was beautiful, the grounds were in amazing shape especially considering December and the downpour the night before. No other guests were in the garden during the ceremony so all photos were just us and family. It felt very private and intimate. The large trees on the property really protect it from wind too. Breakfast was amazing the first morning, I can't wait to try what's on the menu for tomorrow! The staff, as well as Katy, regularly made us and our family feel at home and offered to help in any way we needed to make our special day even more special.

Yelp
My fiance and I did the Ultimate Luxury Getaway Package (dinner each evening at splendid restaurants, a couples massage, breakfast in bed, 5 hour wine tasting at 4 wineries in a limo, and much more) and stayed at the Library. I have to say, it was the most magical and perfect 3 night stay we had. We never have had such a lovely vacation like this one. The breakfast each morning was splendid, the garden was lovely, Monterey had beautiful sights, and staying at the Library was just perfect. Personally, I felt like a princess! Did not want to leave and we hope to return next year!

Yelp
This place, was a wonderful experience. The hostess was a doll. Everyone here is so attentive, and the scenery, and the entire property itself was classy as hell. We got the room with the spa tub, and let me tell you. The room was so clean. The company I've met here was wonderful. The price you pay is mute. It pays for itself with the afternoon wine, and cheese spread, and with the 4 star breakfast that was served to my room. The fireplace in the room was cozy, the bed was so comfortable, I slept like a goddamn princess... I will DEFINITELY be back, as I come to Monterey a lot. Highly, HIGHLY recommend this place. You will not be disappointed

Yelp
My new husband and I stayed in the Brighstone suite for our honeymoon right after our April 2018 wedding and we had never experienced an Inn quite like this one before. We were blown away by the service, Wendy is truly amazing, so friendly, warm and inviting. We felt right at home and never had to worry about anything. If there was even the possibility of us feeling an ounce of stress, the staff was quick to lift and resolve any issues so that we didn't have to worry about anything except enjoying ourselves as new husband and wife. The Old Monterey Inn is just so magical and is now very near and dear to our hearts. Thank you Wendy and everyone who helped make our stay there absolutely unforgettable, we hope to return and experience this heaven on Earth all over again.

Yelp
Just returned from a weekend getaway. Had a wonderful time at this cozy bed and breakfast. Great service, accommodating staff, and very clean. Delicious breakfast in bed. Also enjoyed massages, for an additional fee, on site. Didn't make it to the nightly appetizers and wine, but did utilize the 24/7 coffee and tea bar and the guest fridge with a variety of non-alcoholic beverages and other healthy treats. Close to quaint restaurants while still feeling remote and secluded. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
The Old Monterey Inn is what my dreams are made of. It was spectacular and they really spare no expense. I felt like a queen the moment we drove up. It looks like a little English cottage with beautiful gardens and interiors. The staff are extremely friendly, helpful and polite. They have happy hour in their fancy living room every evening, and always have a bottle of port out for your enjoyment. Our room was nothing short of amazing. A king sized luxurious bed with fine bedding and many, many perfect pillows. It really is fit for a queen. A fireplace in the room makes for an even more romantic stay, not to mention the HUGE soaking tub in the bathroom. In the morning you can join the rest of the guests for breakfast, or you can have breakfast brought to you. And really, you won't want to get out of the bed so this is a nice touch. The food is spectacular and detailed and delicious. You will not want to leave this place!!!

Yelp
I'll admit, I'm not much into B&Bs. I'm especially wary of ones that include the word "old" in the name. I think I have this image of the typical B&B patron: over 50, wheeling their golf club carts around and talking about the last European town they summered in while nibbling on stale biscotti and knitting toaster coozies. This is SO not the Old Monterey Inn! I was actually surprised to see a wide range of ages staying here, which is perhaps a testament to its general appeal. The grounds are beautiful and peaceful, and each room has a cozy, romantical fireplace to light up as the ocean air gets cool and foggy in the evening. In the morning, breakfast was brought up to the room (or you can eat with the more social guests, but at 9am in the morning on a weekend, I'm not up for attempting witty banter with strangers). The food was outstanding! I don't each much gluten, but there was no way I could resist the pecan-crusted french toast they laid before me. I mean, it would have been RUDE not to eat it since they brought it up 3 flights of stairs just for me, right?? :-) They have a large staff to keep the place spotless, and each person was so nice and generously accommodating. I'm not a super needy guest, but their little touches made me feel like a celebrity. Or maybe they knew I'm a HUGE belly dance star in the south bay, and thus rolled out the red carpet and special treatment for me. Surely that was why everyone was so nice! I'm a huge deal, after all (right). There are numerous restaurants nearby (the helpful literature in the Inn says they are within walking distance. Clearly whoever wrote that DOES NOT wear 5 inch heels. Driving advised), and the wharf is just a couple minutes away by car should you feel the need to be extra touristy and grab some clam chowder in a bread bowl or go whale watching. Side note: sea lions smell weird. Stay here! It's fabulous, and you'll wake up refreshed and recharged after a long week at the office. I'm currently devising a way to become independently wealthy so I can just live here and wake up to this every day.

Yelp
Quite simply, the most lovely few days of my life. -unbelievably (not unbearably) nice staff -free wine and snackies around 5pm -cool port to nightcap on all night -cute, cute, CUTE deco -clean, welcoming, bizarrely charming room -a hot tub IN your room and a convenient TV to watch trashy reality shows while getting your Whirlpool on -an outdoor garden straight out of a Rohmer film -delicious breakfast to nurse your hangover from above-stated wine -walking distance to the hoppin' Alvarado downtown scene (we made the mistake of driving from the inn to Lallapalooza, only to get wasted and realize we coulda walked/taken a $5 cab) -the raddest robes EVAR (key if you're nude and needing a morning Diet Pepsi, hidden in their shared refrigerator) -my girlfriend and I did not want to leave....we milked every minute till checkout...damn you, we will have to be back!

Yelp
This is where I fell in love with inns! The inn manager offered us an upgrade upon arrival (a standard policy when upgrades are available) and was beyond friendly and helpful. The inn is beautiful and the Mayfield suite large, in a cozy way with a whirlpool tub and fireplace. We only got to stay for one night as we were travelling down the coast but what a night it was! We started out in the garden, sipping wine and reading books and then moved to the large parlor where all of the night's guests were gathering. Maybe it was the inn, maybe it was the management, or perhaps the whole is greater that the sum of it's parts because we ended up having such a blast sharing stories, laughing and of course, drinking wine. We went to a nearby restaurant for dinner and spent the entire time talking about how much we loved the other guests and how beautiful the inn was. The breakfast consisted of a fruit tort AND a strada (not a choice between the two) and juice with fresh berries! While we were there the inn was undergoing a change of hands and the new owner greeted us graciously, offering tips and listening to our comments with open ears. They were handling the transition so seamlessly that I am sure that they will maintain the quality and service of the Monterey Inn for years to come. I absolutely adore this place, I wish I could give it a 6th star.

Yelp
My dogs' diet and exercise routine make him a fit little machine of terror. All 15 pounds of him. That said, his impulsiveness and unpredictability also made him sprint after a deer and dive into a ravine 10 feet below. It was almost as painful as watching that douche-bag "The Situation" on the Donald Trump roast. Needless to say, no venison for Baxter that evening. The Inn at Monterey is truly a fantastic Bed and Breakfast. The gardens are beautiful, the rooms are clean and cozy and the amenities are great. The foyer is quiet and accommodating, snacks and local wines in the evening. The location is great, too. Not right on the touristy Cannery Row, but close enough to cab if necessary. We drove because I pop wheelies best after a bottle of wine. We stayed in the Stoneleigh (the only pet friendly room) and it was perfect. The room is detached from the house and although there is another room upstairs, it is very private. Obviously, also has its own entrance which is helpful if you're out late and don't care to wake the other guests. Great am breakfast, too, which helped with the pounding wine migraine reminder of the four bottles the Betty and I consumed the night prior.

Yelp
If you enjoy a quaint place that is essentially a very old house full of history, a beautiful garden and very friendly staff that loves this place than this is the place for you. It had fairly recently switched hands in management and they are very nice and hospitable people. Upon arrival however, the man at the desk did not inform us of how to get in contact with them and so we were unsure of how to get ahold of the staff to let them know we intended to check out early the next day (probably an unusual mistake). My husband informed them before breakfast however, and they sent us off with a sort of care package with some muffins and fruit which we definitely ate and appreciated. =) I gave this place an excellent review because I think it is as good as it gets when it comes to an old historical Bed and Breakfast. We stayed in the Library and it smelled of old books. Was our first time and we learned this is not particularly our cup of tea...but we definitely know some people whose it would be. =)

Yelp
Okay, I admit, I was a little swayed by the fact that I got engaged the weekend we stayed here, but seriously, this is a stunning B&B in Monterey. Romantic, decadent, private, charming. And you can even get in-room massages (with or without champagne). The rooms are lush and extremely comfortable, and each one - as it should be for a special occasion - is uniquely styled. So it's a little Laura Ashley, but hey, if you want a ranch house, go to Durango. The only thing I might complain about was the breakfast, which was WAY over the top and was basically a heart-attack on a plate. I will definitely keep some great memories from our stay. And I definitely recommend booking well in advance (right, T?) Here's the site www.oldmontereyinn.com

Yelp
* Revised* I had read and heard such great reviews of this place. This was my first time at a B&B. I thought this would be great! A stay-cation! We stayed at "The Cottage" because it was the ONLY dog friendly room on the property. So keep in mind, bringing your best pal with you, make sure they have the room available. It was a very nice big room. AND... best of which...I got to see a clear view of the rare Blue Moon up close and personal right outside the separated cottage from the rest of the property. Nice, peaceful and excluded. But with the blue moon in mind...maybe that's what went awry? First of all, I had already told them on my first day, that I am VERY allergic to Kiwi. Guess what I got for breakfast the next morning? Kiwi in my fruit plate. What the heck? The next day, I went out and about in town for a few hours. Got got back to the room to walk my dog... I realized my dog's collar AND leash were missing. I searched high and low and couldn't find it anywhere! My poor chihuahua had to stay indoors most of the weekend and was only out to use the potty. Poor puppy. She couldn't go out on walks with me. She had to stay indoors or carried everywhere. I even went to the inkeeper numerous times, and he said that it would be strange if the cleaning staff could of accidentally picked up my dog's collar and leash.. I must have been the person who misplaced it. It wouldn't make any sense if anyone else took it. It must have been ME. He said that he would still ask the cleaning staff, however, they were gone for the night. I was confused... How could my dog's leash AND her collar be missing? Seriously...I'm not THAT absent-minded! I saw it before I left the room for the aquarium. In fact, I knew before I left, that her leash was on the floor and the collar was still ON MY DOG before I kissed her good-bye! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ EMAIL FROM THE PROPERTY: Hi ----, Coming back in this Wednesday morning, I asked housekeeping if they had seen your leash and collar anywhere. It turns out it had been picked up by accident and we do have it. Would you like it shipped to you? Sorry about the inconvenience. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Needless to say...I was quite disappointed because I had to go out and buy my dog a new collar and leash before heading back home. I didn't misplace it and I know for a fact that I turned the couch upside down including the bed, under the bed, under the dressers and everywhere. And the property guy helped too and couldn't find it anywhere either. (By the way....Thanks for helping...it does prove it wasn't in the room and I wasn't the only one searching for it. And thanks for remembering to ask again when you got in. I appreciate it) This B&B isn't cheap. I could have died from anaphylactic shock from Kiwis! Specifically said NO kiwi...Deathly allergic. And was even assured that it was noted. And to say it was me who DEFINITELY must have misplaced my dog's collar and leash and then to tell me they accidentally picked it up? I honestly didn't have a bad time at this place...it was a beautiful property and the gourmet breakfasts in bed was outstanding. (SANS the kiwi!) It IS a great place like everyone says. But things weren't as perfect for me as they have been for everyone else. I did not misinterpret the message sent to me. Housekeeping picked it up my dog's collar and leash by accident. i wasn't trying to imply anything. FACTS only. I got it back. Thanks. And, yes, I did bring the kiwi to the staff's attention. I didn't need it replaced. I just didn't need any kiwis. My stay wasn't perfect, but just because mine wasn't, doesn't mean yours can't be. Again..keep in mind...it was a blue moon. My stay must have been an anomoly.

Yelp
We stayed at Old Monterey Inn for three nights. The place is charming and we liked it a lot. Our room was a bit smaller than I would expect from a hotel in this price range, however it was very cozy and comfortable. We really enjoyed having our breakfasts outside at the porch as well as other supplemental services and snacks. I am rating Old Monterey Inn only as 4 stars for two issues. One issue is very minor - the internet connection in our room was unstable and basically we could not use Wi-Fi. Another issue is quite memorable. We booked a massage session for two and expected a good massage since it was very pricey (it cost us $370 for two people for one hour). However, I can describe the services provided as a relaxation therapy session rather than even a mediocre massage. I was disappointed by this experience. Overall, this is a nice place to stay, thought it is a bit prices. Definitely we would stay again when we travel to Monterey next time. However, we would not get a massage there again.

Nicole S.

Yelp
Granted, this was quite a while ago... We got a sweet deal, I mean cheap, but that was the only reason it got 2 stars. We didn't expect great things, b/c of what we paid, but we weren't prepared for the invasion. Ants, everywhere. The tub, the TV armoire, the bed. (((Shiver)))

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon after our small, private wedding in Monterey. We live in the area, and were amazed that such an enchanting place exists just blocks away from us. Even just driving through to the guest parking lot transports you into another place entirely. The grounds are absolutely breathtaking, and we spent a bit of time wandering around the garden after we checked in. The innkeepers were welcoming and so warm, and cheerfully accommodated our difficult dietary requirements. The room we stayed in was the Brightstone Suite, and it was phenomenal. The room was bright and sunny, and had multiple views of the gardens below. It was elegant, yet comfortable, and the perfect way to wind down after our exciting day. For a romantic, relaxing getaway, I cannot recommend Old Monterey Inn enough!

Yelp
What a great place to stay! It is warm, comfortable, clean to a fault. Yeah, there is no elevator to get your suitcases to the 2nd floor, but the great staff will be happy to carry them for you. Love the décor! The grounds are charming. Thank you for a great time!
