All the Restaurant Closings in Dallas, June 2025 | Eater Dallas

"A Fort Worth institution that opened in 1998 has closed; it was long known for hearty breakfasts and a much-discussed chicken-fried steak, with its breakfasts having been singled out by a statewide food publication in 2011." - Courtney E. Smith

This place is a gem. The food is amazing the sweet tea was on point and the price was pretty reasonable. We got 2 seafood platters for about $30 together. We will definitely be back in the near future…

Google
Me and my husband wanted to try something new and we found this cute hidden gem, the Grilled chicken club tasted so fresh not like a normal grilled taste but like a smoked outdoorsy taste to it, my husband's chicken tenders looked and tasted homemade, the feel of the place was real old timey yet comfy and they had a lot lot of variety on the menu took us a while to decide on what to eat 😂 overall sweet people and they have a warning sign to watch your step, idk how anyone can miss it though you see it right when your approaching the ramp I usually always look downwards though so maybe just me

Google
I definitely found a diner close to me for sure. The service was great, also a little small, but it definitely a diner. That's on my list for sure. I definitely like it better than west side cafe.

BEWARE BEWARE BEFORE YOU ENTER THIS RESTAURANT. THE SIGNAGE OF CAUTION IS NOT EYE LEVEL. (POSTED PHOTO TO SHOW IT) . PLUS MULTIPLE PEOPLE HAVE TRIPPED AND FALLEN JUST RECENTLY AN OLDER LADY WHOM I SAW INFORMED ME THAT IT HAPPENED SEVERAL DAYS PRIOR TO MINE. PLUS THE LADY EMPLOYED THERE TOLD ME THAT MULTIPLE PEOPLE HAVE TRIPPED AND FELL TO THE SAME WAY. YET, I WAS TOLD THAT I FELL PRETTY HARD ON THE CONCRETE FLOOR. On May 1, 2025, I never expected to have a very traumatized day that I am still recovering from, and I still have to undergo more medical appointments due to this day. I have been here before yet this date. I tried entering like a person goes in a restaurant. Yet, I tripped and fell face down, busting my lips, discolored me right eyebrow, my right hand, my right elbow , both my knees. I had to get assistance to get slowly up from the floor up to a chair to get my bearings together. I was given an ice pack because my lips were bleeding and swollen puffed . MY SON was surprised that I didn't get EMS attention. Afterward, I figured out what had happened. I ordered my meal while it was being prepared, I applied the ice pack on my lips to bring the swelling and puffiness down so I could it my meal. I thought a staff or the son (whom is part owner of this restaurant) would offer to get medical attention for me which no one did that I left to head to the urgent care near my home. The urgent care doctor saw me, and he was surprised that I drove there by myself. However, my son and his family will be coming to help me. Yet he understood my urgency, especially seeing that I had discoloration on my right eyebrow, walking unsteady and my right hand hurting very bad. He said that I need to go down the street to the Medical City ER due to the fact that I needed a head and face CT scan and my right hand x-ray for a possibility head concussion and broke my right hand, I went to the ER instead of having an ambulance bring me there, which the doctor watched to make sure that I could it. It was determined with the images and examination that I have a head concussion whom I need to see a neurosurgeon or neurologist, which I have a neurosurgeon paid by the VA. Yes, I am a veteran who didn't get the proper care at this restaurant ( I had to defend myself on my medical care attention). Plus, I had to see my dentist, hand specialist, and my VA primary doctor for additional follow-up on this traumatized fall. As of that day, my VA primary doctor, my neurosurgeon, my dentist, my eye doctor , my hand specialist, my therapist , my friends and family informed me to get legal attention yet I let them know that I would post a review this on the restaurant Google site. Plus, I am moving out of state hopefully at the end of the month if I get cleared from all my doctors to leave, especially since I am driving a long distance to the southeast. I'm am so far healing from my busted lips, my mouth inside the top part it swollen one of my implants on my upper overdenture, my right hand has several small fractures and my elbow that I get surgery due to being to small that it would heal on its own that I am using a compression glove to ease the pain and prevent anymore injury. My right elbow, I need to be careful not to put pressure on it. I'm getting an MRI on my neck and possibly my lower back, for I have a follow on the 21st for the results of the x-rays and MRI. I see my eye doctor hopefully praying it didn't affect my eyes. So please think not twice but more than to come to this restaurant. Is it worth all that I had to go through if I saw the proper signage that I was told that due to it is a historic building, nothing can be done. Yet I was informed yesterday that it wasn't true, for she has seen other historic buildings repaired for people's safety and well-being. Other photos were to private showing my face.

The Old Neighborhood Grill is a hidden gem! The menu is extensive, offering plenty of good down-home meals that truly hit the spot. I had the ribeye steak, and it was exactly what I needed—mouthwatering, perfectly seasoned, and cooked to perfection. The service was fantastic—friendly, welcoming, and down-to-earth, making us feel right at home. The food was excellent, with generous portions at very reasonable prices. It’s the kind of place you visit once and immediately know you'll be coming back. Highly recommend!

Google
It was our first time eating here and it was AWESOME!! We had chicken fried chicken, chicken fried steak, and 2 kids chicken strip basket. Everything was so gooood! Usually when we go out to eat we have left overs, but not here! But, the food wasn't just the only thing that was great, so was the service and atmosphere, it felt like home.

Google
1st visit. Nice homey feel. Order at counter and sit at table of your choice. Food brought to table when ready. Variety of choice from plate lunches to sandwiches. Fish, steaks burgers look awesome. Breakfast served as well. Definitely returning to try other options.

Yelp
Great food, great people! Can't believe they're closing permanently on Sunday! Hurry and go experience it before they close!!!

Yelp
We are always looking for a classic Southern "plate lunch" restaurant, & Old Neighborhood Grill delivers! My guess is 200 menu options are available (e.g., pot roast, burgers, veggie plates, tacos...). TIP: Head to the counter, order/pay, pick table, & waitstaff brings your order to you. Staff is SO friendly! Food is not quick, but it's worth it bc it's prepared for you so arrives hot & delicious. Ambience is late 80s/90s frozen in time. There is a tv to watch the news & sports. Maybe 15 tables inside. Location is just off 8th, a few blocks south of Rosedale/Magnolia. Private parking in-front. Definitely worth a visit!!!

Yelp
Ordered chicken fried steak, fried ocean and a chicken salad sandwich to go. All food was prepared and ready within 20 min. Fast, friendly and efficient. Location is warm and cozy, when I picked it up. Meal was delicious.

Yelp
The chicken fried steak is really good and so is the meatloaf and if you get there in time for breakfasts, sooo good

Buddy R.

Yelp
I heard about the Old Neighborhood Grill last year but finally got around to eating there yesterday. We like Chicken Fried Chicken so we ordered that with a side of mashed potatoes with gravy. The plate came with two sides so the other choice was Zucchini with squash. The plate came with Texas toast. We liked the large chicken fried chicken. The plates were $12.75 which were cheaper compared to Westside Cafe which has gone up in price to $15.99. We believe the price and great taste is a great reason to return! The vegetables were top notch too! Yummy. We will try the fantastic burger menu next time with those homemade onion rings. We saw a waitress bring out a cheeseburger and I kid you not it was one tall cheeseburger. The music in the background provided that 70s or 80s vibe. The place had that small cafe feel but plenty of seating in 1 of two rooms.

Yelp
My husband and I come here a lot. It's a cute and homey restaurant where you order at the counter and they bring you your food. There are two interior dining areas and a few bistro type tables on the sidewalk in front. My husband comes here for their chicken fried steak and loves it. I decided that today I would get a BLT since I had seen a good review on it. They definitely didn't hold back on the bacon. It was crunchy which is the way I like it, but may not be for everyone. I just wish the lettuce and tomato was more proportioned to the bacon. After eating a few bites I had to open the sandwich to make sure there was tomato in it, and there was but it was a small thinly sliced portion. So, the sandwich was good but the B overpowered the L and T. Food came out promptly even though is was a busy lunch service. Everyone is always friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back.
google avatar

Judith A.

Yelp
Obviously, it's a neighborhood favorite. I was there because the reviews said that they make a great BLT. It is good, but if you want Mayo on it you have to ask. They make their curly fries from scrach and they are good. Parking on a Saturday morning was a challenge, but certainly do-able.

Yelp
I have eaten here 3 times. Great food, friendly service, reasonably priced. I have had the chicken and waffles, with special order grits with cheese and jalapeños. The apple pie was awesome. I have also tried the cinnamon apples. Everything has been cooked perfectly.

Yelp
My friend and I were unusually late in eating out; however, both of us were very hungry after a somewhat grueling day. The place was almost empty with only a few other patrons present. Surprisingly, we both ordered the chicken fried steak and dessert. Delicious! With the great food, along with the quiet ambiance, we had a great time of fellowship. Our server took good care of us as well. The restaurant seemed clean and well-maintained. Definitely eat here if and when you're in the neighborhood.
google avatar

Joel H.

Yelp
We love this neighborhood joint and like to stop in after a long day at the zoo for friendly faces and delicious fresh food. They have something for everybody and the service is great.
google avatar

Lele S.

Yelp
This cozy little spot is well spot on! A wide variety of menu items made it hard to choose, but several of us had the fish and chips, which were amazing ! I will have lunch here anytime. I'm in the area.
google avatar

Mendi T.

Yelp
I'm sure for pancakes and such it's fine. We made the mistake of ordering migas. Don't order that. We should have gone next door. This place has a walk-up counter for ordering, and you choose your own table. Self-serve drinks. Humble decor and home cooking type menu. It's serviceable, but we won't likely return, and I'd never order migas there again.

Rebecca K.

Yelp
The food is so good here. It has to be the best chicken-fried steak ever. It was light and crispy with just the right amount of gravy. The wide variety of sides is really nice.
google avatar

Kat Y.

Yelp
I am overwhelmed with gratitude for Matthew, LuLu and our server Brittany. We swung in here before a TCU game and I left my wallet on the table. Brittany found me on Facebook and left me a message. I showed back up after hours and LuLu stopped her cleaning to call the owner's son Matthew and he brought me my wallet. The food? Classic burger cooked the right way with fresh toppings. You know, the perfect old school burger. My friend loved his fried zucchini. I came for the food. I'll come back for the amazing service. 5+ stars. Thank you all so much.

Yelp
HOLY F'ing crap!!! 1) large portions 2) DELICIOUS FOOD 3) super reasonable prices 4) friendly staff! The family owned spot is the best! I'll eat here everytime I'm in town!

Stacy W.

Yelp
I love this place! Great food and service! Really easy to talk since no music playing.

Busbey N.

Yelp
Cute Small Neighborhood Restaurant, good home-style food in large quantities. Everything tastes great, nice homey interior, friendly waitstaff.

Britni H.

Yelp
Consistently yummy! Great local spot with wonderful service. You feel like you're at home!

Yelp
Salt, salt, salt I had the Seafood Combo, catfish was excellent but that where it stops. Fried Shrimp were really fried to dryness. Sides, black eye peas, corn fritter and zucchini sticks were horribly salt ridden. My wife had the heavily salted Pot Roast that was fatty with grizzle, bone dry mashed potatoes and fairly good green beans. One star rating is for the wonderful staff, very friendly.
google avatar

William W.

Yelp
Last night, the wife and I finally got around to trying this place and we were happy we did. My wife had a cup of lentil soup, Santa Fe chicken with sweet potato fries and green beans. I had the pot roast with mashed potatoes and black eyed peas. Everything was very good. The pot roast had a nice amount of fat. Fat is flavor! I would like to see them offer larger portions. I'd happily pay for a meat and three. You order at the counter and they bring your order to your table. There are two small dining rooms with kitschy decor including ceramic chickens. They were fairly busy on a Thursday evening. We'll be back to try other menu items. BTW, they also do breakfast.

Yelp
Very homey locally owned FTW American restaurant that me and my partner loved! The menu is HUGE and would be able accommodate even the pickest of eaters, vegetarian, etc. They even have dessert! (which we didn't have but looked lovely). You order at the counter and they bring it to you. I got a classic cheeseburger and had the looooongest French fries I've ever had! My partner absolutely adored the bacon cheeseburger. The staff is very polite and helpful. Y'all come on down and support this charming grill!

Yelp
For years, Old Neighborhood Grill has served great food with a smile. It's that friendly, down-home quality that sets the restaurant above the rest. My family discovered this gem when Peter Schroder oversaw operations. The same high level of quality -- in yummy food and genuine care for customers -- continued after the Lesters bought the business. From meat loaf and pot roast to burgers, fish and chicken platters to homemade cake and pie (yum!), the menu offers something for everyone. That includes yours truly, whose dietary restrictions have limited my choices in recent years. But the cooks and servers bend over backwards to meet my needs, granting substitutions with a smile. It's that folksy charm and genuine care that brings me back time and time again.

Judyana G.

Yelp
Great food and prices. Have gone twice and haven't been disappointed. Only went for dinner but I heard breakfast is amazing.
google avatar

Jane J.

Yelp
Very good and great service. They offer senior meal deals. Breakfast was perfect 1 egg,1 meat and French toast (2) or pancakes (1)
google avatar

Yelp
I took a chance since Paris Coffee is always busy. I enjoyed my seafood lunch plate but the catfish was small pieces. The wait staff is very friendly and my order was ready in just a few minutes.

Yelp
I use to live in Berkeley and visited here often. Just went back yesterday with my wife and daughter and I wasn't very pleased. All 3 stars go to the employees, the location, and the speed of service. It's a nice atmosphere to eat and talk. The food however gets 1 star. I ordered the chicken tender plate with mashed potatoes and green beans. For starters, nothing about mashed potatoes in an ice cream scoop appeals to the eyes or the appetite. The chicken was decent. The green beans were flavorless and everything needed a ton of salt. I was still very hungry afterwards and the size of food compared to the plate was like putting a chicken thigh on a serving platter. The plate to food ratio was bad My wife had meat loaf and green beans, same thing. The sauce was watery and flavorless and needed a ton of salt. Her croutons "toast" was drenched in the watery sauce and was not edible. She too was hungry afterwards. I got a plate of okra and it was pretty good actually. Nothing was hot, it was all room temperature. All in all, I just don't think this meal makes us want to return. If the food had flavor and slightly larger portions, the atmosphere would be worth it. My wife said it best, it's white people making soul food. Use salt and seasoning y'all, it's not that expensive!
google avatar

Stacy L.

Yelp
Great food. Small and privately owned cafe. You don't find places like this anymore! The food is great with a good variety. I'll vote them the best BLT in Fort Worth any day. We go often, maybe 3 times a week. It's affordable and really good. If you are looking for a good breakfast, lunch, or dinner, I will recommend ONG any day. Go here. Get to know the staff. Order something and you won't be disappointed. This place seems often overlooked over other Fort Worth institutions, but ONG is definitely a Fort Worth institution and I hope this place is around for years to come.

Yelp
First time at the Neighborhood Grill and I must admit I was impressed with the extensive menu. For a small place, they have so many selections. If you have a large group, I am confident that even the most finicky ones will find something they will eat and enjoy. Soups, sandwiches lunch and dinner plates with numerous choices. Order at the counter and your food is delivered to your table in short order. Beer and wine available. The catfish dinner was especially tasty, especially with the pinto beans, okra and hush puppies. Southern comfort food. Service was friendly. This could be a superb go to place for quality, yet affordable, tasty home cooking when you don't have the time or inclination to do it yourself.

Yelp
I ordered a Turkey Avocado sandwich with small side salad through GrubHub today (with no drink). It came to $10.01 for a pickup order. The staff seemed friendly when I picked up the order. The sandwich seemed to be well-made with good ingredients but wasn't particularly interesting. The salad was just greens and two tomato pieces -- not all that great a salad at all. I wouldn't avoid this restaurant, but I wouldn't be particularly likely to order here again.
google avatar

Izzy J.

Yelp
Ordered delivery through Grubhub from here in late June, and it arrived in about 25 minutes on my doorstep and the order was correct! I got breakfast. 2 pancakes, which are large and fluffy, and the egg and sausage special with hash browns. It came with orange slices, butter, and syrup as well. I was very impressed! I even asked for pecans in only one pancake and they did that for me :)) My total was around $16 with a 20% tip for everything, which I feel is pretty good for literally getting a huge delicious meal at my doorstep. I don't do delivery or takeout very often because it feels expensive and sometimes when I try to, the order doesn't go through or it's wrong or SOMETHING, but this was a very good experience and I'll definitely order from this restaurant and also Grubhub again.

Mark R.

Yelp
Food and service were great. The Chicken Fried Steak sandwich with mashed potatoes was a great combo and delicious.
google avatar

Christina M.

Yelp
Found my new favorite place to eat while visiting in Fort Worth. Friendly staff and delicious food!

Ana C.

Yelp
I got chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes with gravy and fried green beans and ice tea. It was delicious and had the perfect amount of gravy for me. The green beans were fried to perfection. The staff if friendly and efficient. I will return whenever I'm back in the TCU area and I definitely recommend this restaurant.
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
Excellent service and good food. Just as advertised, a small neighborhood eatery with many favorites.

Ronald P.

Yelp
Had the fish and chips, it was awesome! Fast friendly service, will comeback and try something else next time

Yelp
This is the perfect place to eat if you are in the medical center or you have to be at the Baylor Scott and White surgical Hospital in Fort Worth. Close, convenient, fast service and the food is delicious. The meatloaf, fried okra, Black Eyed Peas and biscuit was consumed all the way down toThe plate licking point. The Migos with beans, hash browns, flour tortilla were also delicious. You place your order at the counter from chalk board menus that change based upon the time of day and what they have to serve. Then the food is delivered to your table with a smile. The waitress was very pleasant. Apparently the locals love it to based upon the conversations nearby. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Rick C.

Yelp
Always a great choice for a meal. I've been coming here since it was Rick's Locker Room. The food is always outstanding and the prices are very reasonable. Well worth a stop if you're in the area. You can't beat the burger with Hatch green chiles.
google avatar

Jeff J.

Yelp
Neighborhood Grill describes the flavor well. Just basic here, the large burger was extremely dry and packed a lot of meat. The fries were very thin and different. It really reminds me of grandmas cooking. If you want an old style choice of a menu this is the place to go. Don't expect the food to be extremely good though... really the flavor of grandmas kitchen no joke. Had a few buddies eat with me and they claimed they got sick after eating here..... I felt done but have an iron stomach. Probably a pass here... unless your a local "maybe" a visit.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday around 3pm. There was only one other party there at this point. By the time we left there was a line of people ordering. My husband wanted to get the fish & shrimp but they were out of shrimp. We weren't informed prior to ordering so I took one point away for that. I went specifically to try the country fried steak. I had sides of fried green beans & mashed potatoes, it also comes with a roll. My husband and I ended up just sharing that meal. If was very good, loved the green beans, loved the size of the chicken fried steak also. It turned out to be a nice portion to share even tho that was not the original plan. 10/10 would recommend. Forgot to take a pic of the meal. Bummer
google avatar

Renea M.

Yelp
Everybody knows this place. It's a community staple. I particularly love their breakfast. My other go-to is the chicken fried chicken. Yummm!
google avatar

Irene H.

Yelp
I work in the area and my co workers and I frequently went to the Neighborhood Grill the food was always good, we had not been in a about a year but I decided to stop by one day and get lunch, the staff was not friendly and the restaurant did not look clean I did not stay. I understand they are under new management and the new owner has not complied with health inspection violations. This information was given to me after I had stopped by that day. It could just be a rumor but it made me wonder.

Yelp
I am eaten at this local home town restaurant for seven years. I will start my saying the menu is overwhelming!! If you want it , they have it! I just to think that only only the specials were good, but I'm here to tell you EVERYTHING IS GREAT! It's like eating at Grandmas house every day! Close to the Hospital, you will see lots of nurses and Doctors and the staff treats you all like family. Love this place. Chicken and Dumplings is #1 in my list!
google avatar

Brittany L.

Yelp
Seems like your typical diner when you first walk in. Small, cozy, homey decor. You walk up and order at the counter. Don't be intimidated by the large menu, it's all tasty! The list of sides is a dream. They probably have more sides than entrees! Just pick a seat and wait for the magic to begin. The first time I visited I got the New York strip breakfast. $11.75 for eggs, hashbrowns, biscuits and gravy and a kick ass steak? Hell yes. Plus, all the drinks were free during breakfast. I was buzzing pretty hard from all that coffee. The second time I went I got the crab cakes. Six hushpuppies were served alongside. Neither are made in house as far as I could tell and I would've preferred the crab cakes grilled, baked, basically anything but fried because I got super excited about the fried green beans and ended up with an entire plate of fried foods. The hushpuppies are the stick kind so real hushpuppy lovers, beware. I also wish they made their tartar sauce in house but they have a pretty solid brand. That being said, it was all tasty enough that I forgot to take a picture! The burgers and homemade pie did catch my eye so I'll be back to give those a try. That rhymed...
google avatar

Judy S.

Yelp
We have patronized this business for years, but no more. We had dinner last night, and what a disappointment. My chicken fried steak was okay, but the biscuit served with it was cold, hard, and tasteless -- obviously a holdover from breakfast. Skimpy on the gravy and mashed potatoes. Indifferent service. My husband's fish platter held razor-thin fish filets coated in breading. Tasteless. Gone is the busy, efficient service and tasty platters of well-prepared food.
google avatar

Yelp
Our Friday night dinner group ate last Friday night at Old Neighborhood Grill and all nine diners were very satisfied with their meal. I ordered the Cajun grilled catfish and it was grilled to perfection and was an excellent choice. I chose green beans and corn fritters for sides and they were great. The hush puppies that came with the meal were perfect. We dine here on Friday night about one a month and individually, quite often. Quality meal at a reasonable price. Owen Christian

Yelp
Great food and even better prices! Parking may be a challenge but patience will pay off.

Yelp
After a long day at the zoo we wanted something to eat as soon as possible. This restaurant is super close to the Fort Worth zoo and great after a long day. High chairs available for the little ones! It does have some comfort food but also healthier options. We went with a burger and some fried cat fish. The burger was ok pretty mediocre nothing exciting, make sure you ask for mayo because it comes dry. Not the best burger ever but their fries were crispy and good. The cat fish my husband said was delicious and my daughter though so too. His order came with cylinder shaped corn bread sticks that were quite tasty. The service itself was wonderful and the staff was patient and sweet. The environment was calm (only a few people in there) and I loved the decor. Larger than expected there is quite a bit of seating. I could see parking become an issue when it gets packed unless there are more spots out back I am unaware of. Good experience, good food, great service.

Yelp
Three egg omelet pick your ingredients. I had onions, tomatoes and Hatch green chili. Passed on the hashbrowns and went with the B&G. Would have liked a little sausage in the gravy for more flavor. Bacon was thick and delicious. My wife had pecan pancakes with gives them a 10. All in all the food was good and the price was right. Recommend.

Yelp
We love Old Neighborhood Grill enough to eat here several times a month. The food is always good. I wouldn't say it was "granny cooking" - as described by another reviewer - at all! The sides are home style and tasty, every bit as good if not better than West Side Cafe (which we also love.) The entrees are super fresh, and let me tell you something, their $16.95 ribeye is better than anything I've ever gotten at Hoffbrau. I like my steak rare, and by rare I mean red top to bottom. Barely singed. And they fix it that way for me every single time, because they know that's how I like it. On a side note - their unsweetened Peach Ice Tea is really good! If you want beer or wine you can have that, too. You might think this restaurant serves just traditional "comfort food," but their healthy options are tasty! I had the grilled salmon the other night and it did not disappoint. If you are looking for a cozy, local (not a chain) place with lots of good options, try Old Neighborhhod Grill.
