Old Ox Brewery

Really like the energy of the place. A local sports show was hosting for the NFL draft when we were there. Very popular, many were sitting under the covers outside during some light rain. The beers were great and we enjoyed the food. People had dogs outside and the staff were helpful with beer selecting. Seemed to be a bigger area in the back in the brewing area as well.

A bit hard to find. But well worth it when you do. Plenty of variety to choose from plus there's wine for those who don't enjoy beer. We ordered a burger and wings. They were devoured instantly. There was a girl scout cookie and beer pairing flight option. Don't miss out on that! We'll need to check out the Middleburg location at some point.

A great place! Location is perfect and easy to access especially if you are biking on the wo&d trail. Staff are friendly and the beers are delicious!! Will be coming back.

Great selection of beers, definitely try the hazy IPA "bye dan". Offers nice selection of food from the kitchen and an indoor area for events.

Really nice selection of craft beers including porters, pale ales, IPAs, and lagers. Friendly and attentive staff. Plenty of places to sit inside and out. Food truck just outside. Right off the WO&D bike trail. Dog friendly.

Great local brewery with outdoor seating area and indoor tasting room. Good place to hang out and drink a cold one. Large variety of beers that will appeal to everyone. My fave is the Deadspresso - love their dark beers!

Here with son and 2 sons in law... Two from NYC and the other from Texas. They are stunned by how cool this place is... Also have my 8 year grandson with us - and there were 20+ board games to choose from. Folks are playing corn hole in the back of the shop where we are sitting at a large picnic table playing a board game. We could be watching the LARGE wide screen but - too engaged in the “Ticket To Ride” board game... And - uh - the beer is VERY good. Only problem is it is 35 minutes from our house. Do not be scared away by the number of cars - there is plenty of space inside. In fact - as more people come in - they are setting up more chairs and tables... Staff is Very friendly. Lived here 15 years - sorry it took me this long to come here.

Visited the place in early 2025 as part of the corporate event. The cornhole was fun albeit a bit too much pace - probably the only way to conclude championship for 150+ people in under two hours. Now, for the beers -- I found them to be outstanding with maybe very little critique to the Golden Ale that I personally felt not fully attenuated judging by a little too much sweetness for the style. The bar staff know their beers and their guidance -- starting with the lager and going all the way to the grand finale being the 2021 Quad. Overall, this one of a very few craft breweries producing well balanced, quality beers. As a brewer with a few years of experience behind me I tend to be quite judgmental and biased but I cannot fail the OX Brewery. Outstanding.

I've been to Old Ox more times than I can count. They make great beer, but the service has consistently been disappointing. It was once a great establishment in the beginning of the craft beer boom, but they have sadly gone down hill over the years. I've had multiple encounters with rude bartenders, but my last visit sealed the deal--I won't be coming back. I accidentally left my credit card at the bar while ordering (it happens). When I realized it was missing a few hours later, I returned to see if they had it. I approached the bartender and politely explained the situation. Instead of offering any assistance, he looked annoyed and snapped, "What do you want me to do?" I calmly asked if he could check with other bartenders or management. Rather than helping, he ignored me and moved on to another customer. Thankfully, another bartender who overheard the exchange stepped in, checked behind the bar, and found my card sitting at the register. It's clear that management doesn't prioritize customer service, and I'd rather take my business to one of the many other great breweries in the area.

Came here on a quiet Tuesday afternoon, we were the only people in the place. I tried their October beer, and it took forever to pour it because it was all foam. After all that wait, the beer was flat. Just as we walked outside to enjoy my flat beer, the staff turned on music loud enough to split your eardrums. Did I mention we were the only customers? Were they trying to get us to leave? They did turn it down to a reasonable level after we asked. And replaced the flat beer with another type. All rather reluctantly. On a positive note, they did comp us for the flat beer.

Great little hidden hangout in the land of Ashburn's finest office buildings and data centers. It's a perfect spot for grabbing an adult soda pop after a long day of work. I highly recommend the rye porter for those who like dark beers because it is incredibly tasty.

Old ox is a staple for bikers (cyclists) on the W&OD trail. Great location. Good beer. And they usually have food trucks of various kinds. The servers are on the spot and generous in allowing a taste or two! The ambiance is casual though a little industrial parky..

Went all the way out here with my dog, only to find NO PETS INSIDE. Mislabeled information somewhere, that to me does not mean dog friendly.

Really Really enjoyed my Sunday afternoon here. Met a buddy for a few beers, he suggested the Black Ox with nitro added. Wow, great suggestion, really good beer. Pretty decent menu, the usual "pub fair", I had a large pretzel that was good. Place is really big, so you can spread out, the backroom had a cornhole tourney going on. If you look at the website, seems a lot of good events to get involved with. Hope to return soon. If you ride a bicycle, it's right on the W&OD trail, easy off, have a few brews, get back on.

Update: Now they do their own food, have wine and limited drinks. Still family owned and community focused. Don't expect a good social media presence.

Landed on this spot for another weekend brewery trip. I was sort of familiar with their beer since I've had it around at other places in NOVA. There wasn't too much parking but luckily it wasn't too busy and we found some on the side of the building. We grabbed the I Am Brut, the Pinch Me Peach, Kristin's Passion (Porter), and the Funky Face Tropical Sour. Kristin's Passion and Funky Face were our favorites. Kristin's Passion really had a distinct chocolate taste but also had a kick. The Funky Face was really fruity but also very sour (obviously). They also had a food truck this day (Momo's and More) which was also pretty solid. They have rotating food trucks that they post on Insta (I think). It also seems like they can hold parties as well based on the party we saw in the room behind the bar. Pretty solid brewery overall, I wouldn't mine coming back when I'm in the Ashburn area looking for a beer.

This LoCo hand-craft brewery keeps reminding me of how much Loudoun has grown and evolved from back when we didn't have these things. Of course living in this area entices you to drink with all the options around. Old Ox is a very nice option and a local favorite. The alpha ox ale is their most popular and is sold in cans at the breweries or grocery store. The grand ox ale and I am Brut IPA were my selections. The IPA has a nice amount of Hops and the grand ox makes you feel grand with the strength of an ox ! I didn't see outside seating but there's plenty of inside seating with board games available and an area in the back where tours are done. Plus they have a different food truck outside serving eats since you need good bites to go with beer. Right off of the WO&D trail so you can bike/hike here and not feel guilty. I worship the beer gods for blessing us with this place!

I was excited to see a brewery so close to my hotel!! In the area on business and had to come here to try it out! Much like many other breweries in the US this can found in a commercial/industrial area that's been turned into an epic brewery destination. I noticed on one side there is a bicycle trail that ends at the brewery. Who doesn't want a cold beer after a bike ride? If you're at least 21 anyway. I liked the service I for from the beer tenders also. Knowledgeable and friendly. I sampled six beers and really enjoyed their nitro stout. I also learned they have rotating food trucks and on Tuesdays this pizza truck comes in that was straight fire!!! Also it was a brick oven pizza truck so literally fire !! Great experience for me and I'll be sure to visit again

Located in the back of an industrial park, this brewery has okay beer. There's a nice taproom with lots of tables, space and windows. There's a small no frills outdoor area and a variety of food trucks that park outside depending on the night. I was there on a Wednesday around 5:15. I got a beer and inquired about food. I was told the food truck was late, so I got some chips in the meantime. When the food truck finally did arrive, it needed time to set up food service that would have been fine but having had a long day, I couldn't drink anymore without food in my stomach! So sadly I had to bounce after one drink. Bottom Line: If you're brewery crawling this is a fine stop.

Beer is great. Food is great. Beertenders and overall service is great! I love coming here for cornhole every week!

Have always liked Old Ox for their beers, particularly their hatch chili beer and keg nog. I've also liked their special events and pairing flights (e.g., smore's and stouts). They have recently started a Scratch Kitchen at this location, it shows promise.

Food trucks, beer, board games, and hospitality! The people here are so nice. Stop by here after a jog on the W&OD trail and had to stop by after being recommended to this place. Great vibes and you can explore the back to check out the brewery and even partake in some corn hole. Definitely check out this place if wanting to have some local beers or just wanting to have some chill vibes. Kid friendly also.

Went there for the fire department fundraiser. Had some drinks and the chilis. I will definitely go back.

3.5/5 Multiple Visits 2019-Present. We've stopped here a few times over the years and found it to be a good brewery in a crowded market. Old Ox is more established than many of it's competitors and enjoys good distribution in the area. The beer has always been solid with a few standouts. The vibe in the brewery is cool and relaxed. Parking can be a bit tight as it's an older brewery that's focused primarily on making beer (that's not a bad thing) and located in an industrial park. Overall I like them a bit more than some of the other options in the area. If you find yourself in the area it's well worth stopping by.

They close at 8, and have a last call at 730p. We walked in at 735p on a rainy Thursday and the place was empty. The guy behind the counter wouldn't let us have a drink. He looked so desperate we'd just disappear. So yes, we did and will not go back.

This place was great!! Very cute space along the WO&D trail. I imagine this would be a great pitstop for drivers who are biking along the trail. It's dog friendly and has plenty of outdoor seating. I got the Funky Face Margherita and was very happy with my purchase. They also have a cool area in the back withe beer barrels and seating where you can see the area where the beer is produced. The service was also amazing and I will definitely be coming back with my friends as the weather gets warmer.

Another brewery in the Loudoun County VA. This place is slightly larger than Ocelot but Ocelot probably has better beer selections. Still, there were many patrons here, yuppies of Northern VA and blue collar types are all welcome and probably the location is more central to the Ashburn location. A must check for brewery in the Northern VA area. Within 10 mile radius of Lost Rhino and Ocelot so if you start early, you can hit these 3 breweries in one afternoon through closing time usually around 10-11ishpm. And OBW, there was a BBQ food truck serving chili, pulled pork and cole slaw just outside the establishment. Plenty of seatings, some communal and some private and benches along the walls. Bottoms up!

Loved, loved, loved the beer. I took home the blond stout, cherry blossom, and the skull-bearing coffee beer....all of which were super yummy.

I seriously love Old Ox Brewery. They have added 5 beers since our last visit and they are all very good. They have also added more seating in the back, have a space for food trucks to come set up and have added cornhole. Pair that with the nice tasting bar, multiple family style tables out front, super friendly owners with a serious passion for their craft and you know you are bound to have a good time here! Onto the beer, I'm completely in love with Kristin's Passion. It's description is very accurate as it is essentially a grown up (and cold) Mexican hot chocolate moonlighting as a Porter. Then their Bourbon Barrel Black Ox is so good it breaks my heart they will only sell it by the glass since it's a limited release. I don't want to share it! Lol. It's seriously amazing! It's easy to spend a few hours at Old Ox! It's a great spot and it's neat to see how they have grown in the past several months.

Ok, I will say this it has a great location and the food truck is awesome. This post is being made during the year of COVID 19. My main issue with the place is the fact that samples of beer were not given. I and my companion were checking out local breweries and samples were a norm at other locations. How in the world do you know what your ordering if you've never been here before? It is a role of the dice with your money. I am awe struck by this practice, seriously you can't spare the mini plastic cups so people know what they are ordering. Totally blew my mind!!!

We visited here Sunday afternoon of Easter Sunday for an Ale tasting! A group of five of us got together to sample the Old Ox Brewery brew lineup! I ordered two flights - each flight comes with four ales. The first flight contained (see pix attached to business listing): - Alpha Ox Session IPA (4.5% ABV): Nice hoppy IPA - hoppier than I would normally expect for a session IPA - packed full of flavor really, really good! Made with three hops: Amarillo, Centennial, and Simcoe. - Oxplorer Batch #3 IPA (7.5% ABV): An excellent full-strength IPA in the alcohol department and in the flavor department. Nice intersection of pine and citrus flavors! Made with three different hops: Centennial, Amarillo, and Citra hops. Gorgeous golden color. - Saison d'Ox French Farmhouse Ale (5.7% ABV): Interesting ale, a hint of sweetness to it - my least favorite of the ales we tasted. - Kristin's Temper Jalapeno Pale Ale (5.5% ABV): Don't let this one scare or fool you. It's not hot at all. What it is - is damn good! After we were done with the ale tasting, I went back and had a full pint of this ale. Gorgeous copper color! The second flight wrapped things up with the three remaining brews I did not not try on the first go around: - Golden Ox Belgian Golden Ale (6.5% ABV): Too light for my tastebuds, but an interesting ale to taste. Very pilsner-esque... - Black Ox Rye Porter (6.0% ABV): This is an excellent Rye porter, rich, full-bodied, and delicious! - Nitro Red Irish Red Ale (5.6% ABV): Irish Red Ales don't seem to excite me - and this one also falls into that category. Rather ordinary. The staff working here are very knowledgable and can answer a lot of questions about their beers and the brewing process. Lots and lots of table space - two separate rooms, plus some outside space. There was a food truck on-site Easter Sunday selling BBQ and other munchies. I'd visit here again!

Excellent brewery and service. While Old Ox has some beers on the more 'experimental' side, they try to make most of their brews approachable. I tried the 4-beer sample flight for $7, but got an 'extra' tasting when I discovered I didn't like one of them. Like many places, Old Ox has a set of 'flagship' beers they try to always have available, plus a rotating list of 'limited edition' ones. In an effort to give them an honest appraisal, I did a mixture of both (oh, the things I do for my Yelp readers...). Golden Ox (Flagship, Belgian Golden Ale): Overall pretty good, nice fruity finish Alpha Ox (Flagship, IPA): The only beer from here I didn't like; as with many IPAs too hoppy for me Saison d'Ox (Limited, French Farmhouse): I'm not exactly sure how to describe Farmhouse styles, but I know I like them. Orange taste; not as cloudy as a pilsner but reminiscent of one. Hibiscus Saison (Limited): A clear winner! Whatever love I once had for IPAs have been clearly transferred to Saisons. Imperial Stout (Limited): If you drink your coffee black, you'll like this. While visiting I overheard the brewmaster trading ideas with his colleagues regarding their next set of additions, and the words "Chocolate" and "Dark Cherry" were bandied about. Am I allowed to swoon for beer, or is that too girly? Old Ox is clearly out of the way, but they make up for whatever inconvenience you may encounter in finding them. The tap room is nicer looking than other breweries I've visited, and they also have food trucks.

Came in to get their Oxtober Bier, a Märzen-style Bavarian Lager on my birthday, as they were having a special event and I figured it'd be a great time to check them out. Although busy, service was both fast AND friendly, something the Ashburn breweries do right, but some others in the area do not (they know who they are). It was very good; I lived in Bavaria and go back from time to time and this was reminiscent of what we drink in Lindau (every town has its own version). There were people playing cornhole, some watching tv on the large comfy chairs and sofa, live music was great. We had dinner plans, so we didn't try that night's food truck. Looking forward to their Oktoberfest at the end of the month! I'd like to try more of their beers.

Love me some Old Ox! Tried Old Ox on a whim after visiting Lost Rhino one afternoon this past spring (they are really close to each other) and I've fallen hard. The beer is excellent. Super fresh, and I love that they experiment with limited releases (hello, Kristin's Temper with Jalapeno?). My current favorite is the Saison D'Ox - just a touch of hops combined with a bit of spice to make for a super-refreshing spring-summer beer. I can't wait for their fall Oxorcist release. A laid-back, super casual place, which features a few TVs great for watching the games. In the area with the tanks, there's a smattering of furniture and usually a cornhole game set up. Bonus - they feature food trucks. I've been twice when they've had BBQ and it has been great - who doesn't love brew & 'que? One of my favorites for a laid-back Sunday.

The website and the door said they closed at 7pm on Sundays. I got their at 6pm and they said sorry we just called last call. How are you gonna sell a bye Dan ipa and close early on a Sunday during a commanders game. Never going to this dump again.

First time visit. Thoroughly enjoyed friendly, knowledgeable staff and choice of beverages. Don't like too bitter so had the hazy, low-IBU IPA that Mark recommended. We'll definitely be back.

The beers, the vibe, the games... oh my! I have to say I'm a sucker for breweries. I just love the laidback atmosphere, listening to some good tunes, while enjoying a cold beer. What really set this place apart were how amazing the beers are! Great, complex flavors! I showed up on a Friday when they were launching a new beer called "X-Ray Specs" and it was out of this world!! The workers were very friendly and knowledgeable, even though it was crowded they gave everyone personal attention. The souvenir flight was a great deal FYI: 4 full beers AND an Old Ox Snifter Glass to keep for only $12!!

Wonderful surprise on the right side of the WO&D trail on a thru-ride we are doing from Purcellville! Delicious beer choices. Social distancing set up out side and in!! Great place!!

Love finding local breweries. Old ox does not disappoint. Family friendly. Games to play scattered around. A good variety of beer on tap. Right off a bike trail. So glad I discovered this place.

I really like this brewery. Compared to what the area has to offer, it is on the smaller size, but you can still find the outdoors seating. We came here for the Oxorcist beer release and we were not disappointed. See you next time, Old Ox!

Hand a awesome time, beer was good, bartender came over several times and checked up on us. Tell everyone I know to stop by this is worth an afternoon!

I've heard about Old Ox a lot but wasn't super impressed! Tried the coffee stout, Hop Camo, and Hoppy Place. They were all decent but nothing special in my opinion. Their beer on tap was also not super diverse, mostly just IPAs and some stouts. Atmosphere and service as well were just ok, and they didn't have any food which I thought was a bummer.

Now for something special: I AM BRUT IPA - BRUT ABV6.2% IBU25.0 "I AM Brut" (bone dry). "I am Brut" (effervescent). "I am BRUT" (brightly hoppy). "I AM BRUT" (delicious)! They don't lie when they make these claims... Finally an IPA to go with food...any better than chicken wings-fine dinning level meals. The tightness and diminished focus on hops to carry it through might also give you cause to have several of these...so get a designated driver to join you. Very impressed...

After 15+ years in the DMV, I finally actually went to Old Ox, and it was really chill. Good vibes, chill staff, and some damn good beer. I'll definitely be coming soon.

Old Ox "rocks"! They know their beer! Thanks to yelper reviews, we found the place despite the facts that all the buildings are very similar and the main road is a horseshoe. It's quite evident that this is a popular stop. The Unisys building had "no brewery parking" signs all over their covetous parking spots. Since it was after working hours in a Friday evening the parking was plentiful. Upon walking in, we were immediately greeted by the bar staff. The menu was overwhelming especially since this was our first time. I asked about doing a flight tasting and was educated on the various types of beers. The staff member quickly poured a couple of samples for me. I knew what I wanted and didn't have to pay for a flight tasting. I wanted to love the exocist but it was just too bold. I did fall in love with the Golden. Prices are very reasonable and the sizes of the glasses were huge. They don't sell food but on Friday they had a pizza truck on the premises.

Great family atmosphere. They usually have a good food truck there, but check the website, facebook or twitter in advance. Black Ox, their rye porter is something special. Coffee and chocolate flavors with a roasty finish at 5.8% ABV. Also a fan of the Alpha Ox, session IPA. This is a relatively light malt with a citrus and hop bang to it at 4.5% ABV package. Lots of tvs with sports and an old school projection tv in the back. Right off the W&OD Trail, so usually bikers are there in force.

This is my favorite brewery that way. I come there from wv and is worth the drive. The food trucks they have there is always good and the staff makes you feel like family. Tried a few new beers and didnt disappoint.

Beer was good. Food was good. However, if I wanted to be around more children than adults I would've gone to Chuck E. Cheese. I felt like I was attending a children's birthday party.

Stopped here for the fist time on Father's Day, as I was on a bike ride with my kids. It's very conveniently located right off the W&OD, and I don't need much tempting.... Given how micro-breweries are springing up just about everywhere, and several of them being (IMO) over-priced & a rather samey, I wasn't sure what to expect. However, the beers here truly stood out for me. I'd definitely go back. They had a food truck on site, and I got the kids a frozen drink- unfortunately it took ages (20+ minutes) to come, and they were a bit disorganized, but to be fair I can't hold that against Old Ox. Well worth stopping by. Polite staff, as well.

The beer is top notch and the inside has an awesome rustic vibe. They allow pets on the patio. That said, the patio is pretty barren (no tables) and leaves much to be desired. You can also bring your own food and enjoy their food truck of the day.

Like Katie S, I seriously love Old Ox. My husband and I came here a few weeks after they opened and they already had 5 flagships on. There are plenty of places to sit here whether you want a small or large table, a couch or group of comfy chairs with a view of their tanks or the W & OD. The staff here always greet us when we walk in regardless of how busy they are. Really awesome people. The atmosphere of this place is very chill. Its busy, but I always feel relaxed when Im here. And the beer: really, really good.Im partial to their Alpha Ox (also available in cans), their Black Ox, and anything from the 'Kristin' series (also available in 750ml bottles). A fantastic addition to the Loco Ale Trail and one of the more entertaining breweries on Twitter/Facebook (see prior April Fools days).

Friendly staff, lots of places to sit and watch the game, good beer. Outdoor patio decent and apparently accepts dogs.

It is relaxing to come here for some good beer and play some corn hole. It is indoor, so you will always have fun all year round.

My friends and I visit the Brewery every Saturday to run with the Trottin' Oxen Run Club. The Run Club has been great for keeping me motivated and meeting new people. A cold refreshing Hardway Summer Lager after the run isn't so bad either.

Faves: - The saison brew & their seasonals. - Ales are Ale-licious! - My hubster, the IPA fan loved their brew. - They feature a local food truck. - They post a lot of updates & which food truck will be there on their Facebook. - Everyone here are super friendly and you can tell they are proud of their brewery. - The brewery might be little hard to find but if you call them they give you great directions. One of the owners actually came out of the brewery to flag us down! So nice! Check out Old Ox Brewery! They have lots of seating with TVs & they show a lot of baseball & football games. I'm sure they will show hockey too!

OK. Nice enough staff. Decent enough beer. Average space (albeit very sterile feeling). Tried a flight and then a few pints. The Golden Ox (Golden Ale), Hoppy Place IPA, Festivale Saison and Funky Face (Gose). Not bad. Not great. They had a food truck outside that made KILLER Quesadillas though. Overall, a pleasant enough experience, but would not go out of my way to go there again. (Seemed like a popular spot with cyclists though.)
