Hilarious open mike night. Gotta hand it to anyone who can get up there on stage and perform original songs, though!
I was a little turned off by an experience, perhaps people who know this guy would appreciate it, but I found it rude, and I really wanted to like this place because it is so different, historic, and just a cool atmosphere. I called to ask about music for the night we would be there. I listened to a rambling, garbled, muffled confusing greeting, most of which I could not understand, so I waited for a beep to leave my message. I didn't hear back for a couple of days. But, we ended up going anyway, and while I was sitting at the bar, the owner returned my call and I said, Wow, I'm sitting at your bar right now! and instead of saying Hey, that's great! he launches into telling me how he had to listen to my phone message for ten minutes before he could understand my phone number. I've got a pretty clear voice....What a jerky way to treat customers. If he was trying to be funny or quirky, he missed his mark. I think he is a crochety old guy whose brain has been sizzled a bit too much. I cannot agree with reviews that say everyone feels like family, or being greeted with a smile and handshake. Maybe the musicians are that way with each other. But for tourists wandering in for a night of music, nothing was further from the truth the night we were there. The place was empty except for the dad of one performer. Later a group of tourists arrived but, along with us, they left dissatisfied.
