Steeped in Gold Rush history, the Old Sacramento Waterfront is much more than a tourist spot—it’s a living district of independent shops, museums, and riverfront attractions that locals frequent for its unique charm. Recognized by the Michelin Guide and The New York Times, the area is home to the California State Railroad Museum, riverside dining, and lively festivals. Wooden boardwalks and preserved 19th-century buildings set the stage for exploring boutiques, galleries, and the city’s storied past. Visiting at sunset offers stunning views of the Tower Bridge and the Sacramento River.

Visiting the Old Sacramento Waterfront felt like stepping straight into the Old West. With its wooden boardwalks, vintage storefronts, and preserved 19th-century architecture, the entire area oozes historic charm. It’s a beautifully maintained district that brings Gold Rush-era California to life in a way that’s both authentic and fun. The area is easily walkable, making it perfect for a relaxed afternoon of exploring. There’s a wide variety of unique shops, candy stores, souvenir spots, and interesting museums, plus a great selection of restaurants and bars — whether you’re in the mood for a casual bite or a sit-down meal with river views. Old Sacramento is more than just a tourist spot — it’s an experience. Whether you’re a history buff, a foodie, or just looking to enjoy a scenic stroll, this riverside district is well worth the visit. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the Sacramento area!

We liked the place, the view and the restaurants. The view of the river there is amazing. The place is very nice. Whenever we have visitors we have to take them there to see the view and to walk in there and see the touristic shops with several souvenirs. The restuarants there are great especially Joe's crab. We liked eating there. We also liked the railroad museum. My son liked it and know alot of new knowledge about old trains and the difference between old trains and new ones. It is all a very good experience. We enjoyed it too much. I would love to go there again and again.

Love coming here to explore this historic area! Visiting Evangeline's, having a drink at the Last Stop Saloon, and satisfying my sweet tooth at Candy Heaven are always a must! Cut through the tunnel to downtown and hit up Yard House or shop at DOCO! 🤩 #History #Exploration #Evangeline #Saloon #Candy #Downtown #Shopping #Fun

Old Sacramento surprised me with a few surprises. I saw so many classic cars just cruising along the street. The city is full of great architecture, and there are lots of interesting sights to see. The golden bridge was a particular detail I did not expect.

Used Groupon to pre-purchase the Historic Boat ride down the Sacramento River. A one hour boat ride was educational and interesting. The captain/narrator shared stories about locations along the way. Make sure to bring a hat if you plan to go during the hot summer season, especially if you want to go out on deck. It is hot! They have free water and a bar to purchase some food and drinks. There is seating on the upper and lower decks under cover. No A/C. Overall fun and informative and you might catch a glimpse of a seal along the way.

You will find a ton of ice cream and tattoo shops but not as many restaurants as I remember from my visits here years ago. Visit for the experience of the real old west, including the wooden sidewalks and railroad history.

We had an awesome time my brother and I walking through their city on their cobblestone roads and looking in the businesses along the way and then having lunch on the water at Joe's Crab shack and watching the jet skiers boats come in and out
