New York’s Best-kept Secret Is This Castle Resort That's Straight Out of a Fairy Tale

"For an upscale evening at the resort, I save the four-course dinner in the Surrey, the resort's new fine dining room: it's the night to dress up, sip sommelier-suggested wine, and indulge in standout dishes such as seared sea scallops or braised duck ravioli." - Tanner Saunders Tanner Saunders Tanner Saunders is a Brooklyn-based travel editor and writer who has worked for Travel + Leisure, The Points Guy, Thrillist, and more. This place is an absolute gem! What a fantastic hidden spot in Surrey. The restaurant is in a beautiful historic building and is family-owned, which gives it such a special touch. This restaurant serves French cuisine with a French-style ambiance. Our dinner was amazing! My swordfish was cooked to perfection, and my husband's rib eye was fantastic. We also absolutely loved their signature potatoes; they were so yummy! The service was outstanding! I'm so glad we found this place and we will definitely come back!

Meg W.

Google
Food was delicious and a good sized portion was served. We all enjoyed the Chateaubriand Special. One star lost because my fillet was overdone and one bernaise sauce was so thick as if it was scraped from the pan. The potatoes were amazing! Service was very good. A little too long of a wait between courses for a Wednesday night though. Reservations were at 7:00 and first course arrived at 8:00. Would have enjoyed to linger on a Saturday night. Hardly had time to enjoy a coffee after dessert. Atmosphere was pleasant. Very quiet. No music.

Google
I didn't think there was a restaurant left that offers exquisite fine dining without the pretense. But then my wife took me to the Old Surrey. Simply put, it was an outstanding experience, and well worth the hour-long trip from our home. The food was amazing, the service spot-on. The ambiance of the restaurant is delightful. I don't think it is possible to eat here only once, at least not for me.

Google
Absolutely fantastic experience. We did a four course meal and the service was fantastic from everyone. Getting a cesear salad made in front of you is a fun experience and it tasted delicious. Everything was delicious. Definitely the place to go for a big anniversary or celebration!

Google
Your 'Wednesday Takeaway' was absolutely fabulous!....Barb is in love with the pork schnitzel...and your salad and dessert were encroyable! 50 years of quality food, presentation and service.....long may you run...! Frank & Barb Schindelka

Google
One of the most amazing dining experiences of my life. Was a little "pricey" for myself and my wife to afford on our fixed income but the quality of this establishment as a whole made it worth while. The service was way above par and the food was incredible. Would totally go there again.

Google
My boyfriend and I went for a post-Christmas night out, and absolutely loved their holiday special! 4 courses that were mouth watering, and great drinks. The staff was so attentive and sweet. Lovely romantic, comfortable ambiance.

Google
Wonderful experience with delicious food, friendly staff and big portions. We didn’t feel rushed to leave and everything tasted fresh and was perfectly cooked. I loved having the salad and ice cream made in front of us. We’ll be back!

Yelp
This restaurant is one of the finest in British Columbia. They usually have outstanding three course dinners available that are spectacular. They are highly recommended.

Yelp
Dined here for weekend dinner and it wasn't too busy, we basically had a section of the restaurant to ourselves! The menu items are well priced and we ordered a variety of dishes including the Abbotsford duck breast, which was my favourite. The mushroom salad and the cherries jubilee were both prepared tableside, so definitely order these if you want some entertainment! They're prepared for two people but the salad can easily be shared amongst 4 or 5 people. Definitely recommend this one or the caesar as it is prepared authentically with anchovies and house made dressing. The cherries jubilee was a bit of a letdown as the ice cream melted almost immediately upon contact with the hot alcohol and turned into a boozy ice cream soup. It is also quite boozy, so stay away from this one if you are driving home. The waitstaff was super friendly and attentive. My only gripe was the bathroom was a bit creepy! Will be back to visit for another celebratory meal.

Yelp
Bringing back OLD memories... It has been awhile since last been here especially when I was mistaken that they closed down after the pandemic. Had a lot of fond memories at this place throughout the years. This place is located on 72nd Avenue by King George Hwy (close to the McDonald's). I would say if one is not specifically looking for this place, one will pass by it without knowing it's a restaurant. It's like a hidden gem but not really hidden yet it still camouflage itself into the surroundings. Both the inside and outside appear to be someone's house back in the 70s, except inside is laid out with dining tables in all the rooms. Here was the food I ordered this time around (set menu); 1. Pina colada & Caesar. Both drinks were nice and rich in taste. 2. Shrimp bisque. Pretty rich and tasty, right to the point. Glad it was served hot not lukewarm like many places. 3. Charcuterie platter (appetizer). It was okay, nothing compared to the normal size platter. 4. Jumbo prawns. Quite tasty but I personally think they are one size down to be called "jumbo". 5. Filet mignon with lobster tail AAA tenderloin. The filet was nicely done medium rare and the lobster tail was tender. The sauce complimented the steak really well. 6. Strawberry cheesecake. Pretty generic 7. Crème brûlée. Nicely caramelized, good little sweet to finish the meal with. Overall, this is one of those places I just don't get bored of coming over the years. Personally I always enjoy the food and service here. The atmosphere here is suitable for all occasions. I highly recommend the tossed Caesar salad and Chateaubriand table side. Another visit added to memory lane, will be back again for OLD times shake...

Yelp
Brought the wife here for a date, first time visiting, we tried the Mother's Day multi-course special. Did not get a chance to review Taste 0.5/1* Had high hopes, maybe because of that, we both felt it was a big let down; food weren't bad tasting, but was also nothing special. Croissant was pretty good, little too buttery for the wife's taste, but ultimate we didn't come here for the bakery. Value 0/1* Lots of other choices that outshine in quality and taste at this price range Service 0.5/1* We sat in the corner room with 2 other tables, everyone had the same special in that room. Other 2 tables got both croissants and muffins, we only receive croissants, and when asked, server said they don't have enough. They brought some to us in the end, but ultimately was a bit late as it's already left a distasteful feeling. Cleanliness 0.5/1* As it's not newly Reno'd, it's not spotless, though not particularly dirty, gives the 'just enough' kind of feel Overall/Revisit 0/1* Paying for ambience? YES, not so much the ambience as opposed to the rep maybe Above and beyond? 0/+1* NO One would think to ask a young couple what the occasion is for going out for fine dinner on a Mother's Day, but nope, they did not even ask what the occasion was...

John M.

Yelp
The service was bad and the food was worse!! We went with a couple of friends our appetizers came and we waited 20 minutes for theirs. Caesar salad was made table side and it was likely worst Caesar salad I've ever eaten. Bill with tip over $250 save your money for somewhere else.

Yelp
Had a very good dinner with my aunt at The Old Surrey Restaurant. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of our meal, but we had dietary restrictions (strict no garlic or onion or spices) and they were very accommodating. We ordered the chateaubriand, and had a wonderful show table side. The meal was delicious- my aunt wanted medium rare and I like it as rare as possible, and the meat was as we both like it. We ordered crepes Suzette for dessert, for more flame theatrics. It was also delicious. I managed to get a picture. We went at 5:15 just after they opened, and it was nice because it was quiet. We made a reservation and I recommend that. Overall, good service and good food, and accommodating with our no spices restrictions. Recommend going!

Yelp
Visit couple times and it was great. Love the ambiance and coziness. Food was great and service is top notch. Will visit again soon.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the food. The waiter was very attentive to our needs. The quiet ambiance was a real relaxing evening out.

Greg M.

Yelp
Food was incredible and the staff were hilarious. Ended up staying late with my date because there was no rush and the staff were fun to talk to. The place is old but that's part of it's charm and hey it's right there in the name.

Yelp
Came here with my wife for our anniversary. We were greeted at the door and brought to our table, service was very good and they were attentive. We ordered the chef special appy for the day which was escargot, also the ceaser salad for us which is made fresh tableside. Before these came we were given an amuse bouche a beef meatball for me and a non beef tasting for my wife whom is allergic to beef. Wonderful to watch and talk with the server. We received an amuse bus For mains my wife ordered the seafood platter and I got the rack of lamb. The food tastes delicious. For our desert we ordered the crepe Suzette which is another table side preparation. Overall a wonderful night for my wife and I.

Yelp
Always was my go to for quality food, atmosphere and great selection...unfortunately, I started going when it was $35 for 4 course meal, including Chateau Briand, Seafood, Caesar Salad, amazing appetizers...Prior to 2020 it was $50/4 Course Meal...then $55, then $60...I said enough. Then $70, then $90, then $100... 50 year celebration $110 per person, plus Drinks, plus Taxes, plus Tip... Same Food as Always except for this outrageously priced Special, it comes with an added bonus of, No Choice for; appetizers, entree or dessert 1st appetizer: Crab Cakes 2nd appetizer: Caesar Salad (which for the last 4-5 times, too much vinegar) Entree: Filet Mignon & Lobster Tail (small ones) Dessert: Nitro Ice Cream for Dessert. Usually, the quality is reliable, service is usually excellent and for people that have loads of money to throw away, or people that love great food, but can't, won't or don't cook...if you're bringing someone you want to impress or a client, this is an excellent restaurant. However, for people like me, that can cook just about anything, for the price of the meal, drinks, taxes and tip, I can make a week's worth of similar meals. It's not like Old Surrey Inn had to double their prices, that house is long paid for, they've leased the lower half and sometimes, it comes down to trying to keep your regulars, like myself, who had been eating their, with guests, friends, partners, colleagues, clients...for over 2 decades! Such is life! NOTE: Not wheel chair accessible and parking is limited!

Yelp
Service was great and caesar salad was delicious. Would definitely recommend for special occasions

Yelp
Little pricey. Great rooms to eat in. Romantic. Wonderful servers. Weird location for such a nice restaurant.

Yelp
My date booked this restaurant for my birthday dinner. We usually head out to downtown but I was pleasantly surprised to find this gem in Surrey. Service and food were fantastic from start to finish. We enjoyed table side prepared Cesar salad, nitro ice cream affogato and flambéed crepes suzette. There are not many restaurants that offer table side demonstrations. You have your options for salad or dessert here. The rest of the meal was great. Oysters were fresh. The risotto and scallops were perfection. My date really enjoyed his Filet Mignon Wellington. I enjoyed my seafood gnocchi. I have no complaints on the meal and service. I plan to return again when there is another special occasion and reason to spurge on a meal.
google avatar

Krista R.

Yelp
Always excellent food and service! Would highly recommend for any special occasion or just a night out.

Sheri M.

Yelp
My husband and I have bed. Here twice & will definitely be going again the service is impeccable and the food delicious. I had the filet last time, with lobster & although I'm not a fan of lobster it was incredible. My husband likes seafood & he won't even give me a bite. We've taken different friends there both times & they've all been back after their initial visit. On special occasions I usually ponder a few different restaurants, in the lower mainland, and although this restaurant is a good hours drive from our home, they usually win.

Yelp
I've lived in surrey most of life and have never been to this restaurant. Finally had the chance to eat here. The atmosphere is great, clean and cozy. The service is great, very attentive servers. The prices are pretty high for what you get. The most disappointing part fir me was the lack of taste or flavor, or any trace of salt in the gravy that they put in most of the dishes. I had the pepper corn steak with also lacked in any flavor of salt or pepper. I was surprised that no salt was on the tables or offered given the blandness of the food. I won't be going back because taste is important to me.

Yelp
First return to this restaurant in alot of years. It was a customer appreciation event. The place looks like a well kept vintage home from the front and the inside decor is modest. But that's where the ordinary ends. The all male staff was professional, humourous where appropriate, and always checking back on your needs. That was a treat in itself. The meal was a four course, with comfortable space in between courses. There was no sense of being rushed to finish. The food was quite exquisite with comfortable portions. Left feeling very satisfied. Meal started with the Beef Pastry (proper name escapes me) with beet salad and lamb. All delicious and perfectly cooked. Definitely going back!

Nathan F.

Yelp
We have been here many times. It is always tasty! The service is very good. The building is older so I prefer not sitting by a window (can be cold in winter).

Bernadette H.

Yelp
Great place for date night. Caesar salad is a must. Made in front of you, fin to watch. Service is wonderful. Highly recommended

Yelp
Great, old world restaurant. The food was great, the service was great. I like restaurants like this. They are classics. The Crêpes Suzette at the end of the meal was prepared table-side. Which always makes you feel special. It was everything that I was expecting after seeing the restaurant on Yelp. My last visit to Surrey was an Indian meal, and I was searching yelp for a different type of cuisine this time, but at a place that is not a chain, and with some class (i.e. not cactus, milestones, or something like that).

Sangeetha M.

Yelp
I wish there were more restaurants like this. What a perfect place for a date. I came here to celebrate my anniversary and was not disappointed. We had a candlelit dinner, with good food and wine. It's a house that's been made into a restaurant, so it has a very intimate vibe. The food came really fast too. I ordered the Chateaubriand boquetiere and loved watching it get made by our table. For dessert I went with the cherry jubilee which was also made by the table. It's always fun to watch! Nonetheless the food was good and overall an outstanding romantic experience! I have no complaints.
google avatar

Phyllis B.

Yelp
A friend recommended this restaurant. I'm so very glad they did. The service was almost regal. The food was exquisite. The table setup was hardly romantic, however this is a house transformed into a restaurant. For that fact alone, this was a cool place to eat with the various rooms done with different decor. It is very pricey but if you budget well prior to going, this is the restaurant to splurge at. It's French cuisine with what I thought was a bit Spaniard too. I can't wait to go back. Delicio!

Yelp
We decided to try out the Old Surrey restaurant on a Thursday night. No we did not have reservations which I now know would have been a great idea. We walked into a very busy restaurant and were asked if we had a reservation, no we did not. The place was full, they pulled a table out and moved some others around to accommodate us (something they did not have to do) . This alone would have me coming back. But the service was great the food great tasting an overall very good experience. Thanks I will be back.

Henry J.

Yelp
Really nice local spot, a rare gem. Steaks were awesome. The seafood platter appetizer was ok, with what was said to be the "halibut" being over cooked and very hard. Seemed to be more like overcooked cod fish to me. Would come back but avoid anything with the halibut listed items.

Yelp
We took our friends here from out of town. This is not 1 of those restaurants with a rushed atmosphere, plan to spend a couple of hours relaxing and talking with your friends. I had their Caesar salad prepared fresh tableside, which is the best Caesar salad I have had! I also had shrimp bisque soup which I quite enjoyed. The beef medallions and prawns served with a vegetable melody and potatoes. The beef was juicy and very tender. The prawns were cooked to perfection with a light crust. The beef and prawns were doused with an awesome sauce. My wife had the seafood platter, my friends had the roast chicken and the rack of lamb. Everyone raved about the food. For dessert I split the cherry Jubilee with a friend. They cook and flambé the dessert table side. Just sit back and enjoy the show! What a great night!

Keri K.

Yelp
This is an absolutely excellent place to eat! The atmosphere was busy but not loud, cozy but not crowded. Surrey has very fine dining... who knew? My husband and I enjoyed a delicious four course meal together. The Caesar salad was made fresh at our table, as well as my filet, and our dessert crepes. Do not let the neighborhood stop you from stepping inside. We live across the border and will come back!
google avatar

Wendy T.

Yelp
Had my work Christmas lunch here and we had the 3 course meal. I decided on: I can't remember what the appy was called but I had a pastry puff with beef and gravy. It was a very bland, I had to add salt to it... Then my main was a creamy chicken linguini - it was buttery and creaming but also bland. The best part was their dessert - I had the coffee chocolate mousse. Their Caesar was very tasty and good! Service was okay... so serious! I might try this place again with my boyfriend since the rating looks really good.

Yelp
In spite of whatever I'm about to write, this restaurant is first class and a must see!!! My future wife and I have graced this restaurant 3 times in the past 24 months and have enjoyed the experience every time. The staff is consistent, except for the table runner. I can appreciate that everyone needs to learn, but maybe do it at Cactus Club before trying to impress at, what many consider, the foremost romantic restaurant in Surrey. There are soooo many positives but just a few negatives that I hope the management will take note of. I have a nut allergy and informed the reservation taker as well as our maître d' yet, the amuse bouchée was presented, one with nuts and one without. I'd say that both should have been nut free and then, after the cheque, the Swiss chocolate contained hazelnuts. Good grief We ordered 4 courses and the quality of the food, presentation and taste were 50/50. Our palettes actually couldn't handle the seafood bisque and returned it to the kitchen. Our server removed it from the bill. One of their monickers is the tableside service with the Caesar salad and seared steak. You must try the potato croquettes, amazing!!! The restaurant has a few different themed rooms, however our favourite is the library. It's pricey and it's classy but if you're looking to impress this is it. Bon appétit

Stuart Z.

Yelp
Excellent atmosphere for a romantic dinner and excellent service. The food however is very average and is typically very under seasoned and bland and on the expensive side. My wife still likes to go back because of the atmosphere and high end service ( ie they make excellent Caesar Salad at table side as well as flambé deserts etc - dinner & a show!)
google avatar

Yelp
I don't ever do reviews but this was so worth it!! I didn't even know this place was here! I lived in Surrey all my life and only heard about it recently from a coworker! I took my Husband here for his birthday tonight and I'm SO glad I did! We both not only enjoyed the food but had the most kind hearted server named Spiro! We had a the fall menu which was a 4 course menu, it was worth every penny! We started off with amazing beef tostada and bay scallops! Then we had a Caesar salad made table side with the BEST DRESSING EVER!! I don't even like dressing on my salads!! Followed by Beef Wellington and rack of lamb, on top of dessert also made table side. Everything was delicious! Thank you Old Surrey Restaurant and Spiro for making my husbands birthday amazing!

Yelp
My husband and I went here after a concert in Vancouver, having read reviews. I wish I could give it a higher review, because there was so much to enjoy. Food: Hors d'oeuvre: We began with the chef's appetizer: this night it was mussels with frites. The mussels were perfectly cooked, but in a dish so deep they were very difficult to retrieve. The frites, served in a bowl in the centre, had started out life as perfection, but, in the steaming under the lights (stay tuned for more on this) had become delicous, but soggy. Main: I had the medallions of lamb topped with seafood, my husband the day's special which was slow cooked lamb shanks. His was superlative. Mine had languished too long under the lights, so the seafood was overdone, and the meat which had begun its life as medium rare was now there, here overdone. Our dessert (sabayon), on the other hand, was delicous. Prepared at our table and served at once -- delicious. Service too was a bit odd, varying as it did from a punctilious waiter who corrected pronunciation from Montreal French to Parisian & others who spoke what could be at kindest called English. But there was, with one glaring exception, an overall will to ensure you had the best dining experience possible. We will return.

Nicky L.

Yelp
Great food and service, but it is in the second floor of building, not easy to find. Overall nice experience
google avatar

Yelp
The service and food was amazing, had the Spring Menu that had 4 courses, I ordered the filet Mignon with fresh Crab and bernaise sauce very yummy. My mom had the chocolate pate... was absolutely to die for, will definitely come back!

Yelp
Had dinner here recently the food and service were great. Pricey but more then worth it. I had the rack of lamb done to perfection!!!

Yelp
Yeah, I've been coming here most of my life for special events including my nineteenth birthday (which was like.. um... five years ago, ok?). Yes, I too have an emotional attachment, to some degree, like Marla. Here`s what I can say that is a little more food related. 1. This place is classic fine dining. Table side service, beautifully plated dishes, and exemplary attention. Yes, the caesar salad is real, and pretty to die for. 2. I had my first bite of manchego and honey here during one of their forays into Spanish cooking. It changed my life. At the time I couldn't find manchego anywhere... now I can. So they were ahead of the curve there! 3. Have dessert. Trust me. 4. Boozy coffee to finish your meal poured on fire. Classic, delicious. Feels... special. 5. You`re in an old house, the ambiance is kinda awesome for the classic experience. 6. Not a cheap experience... but entirely worth it.

Yelp
Hello, I've tried to contact the restaurant, but no one returned my message. Maybe someone there will read this: My husband and I have been going to your restaurant for years. It's been our go-to place for special occasions, bringing friends and family from out of town and on nights when we just want a 'just because' date night. I've been raving about your place in social media and to anyone who asks for a suggestion for a special night out. The last time we were there, it was an awful experience. We were seated without a menu, after 15 minutes my husband tracked someone for menus. Twenty minutes later (we timed it) I spoke up to the server at the next table asking for someone to take our order. When it came time for dessert, two of the desserts were sold out. Despite the 'off' experience we had that night, we booked our New Years Eve dinner with you and received an email confirmation. Four days later a gentleman called, explained that our time was double booked and that you had to cancel our reservation. At first I was trying to be understanding, but the more I think about it the more I'm upset about it. It's so close to New Years Eve and it's been impossible to find a nice restaurant with space. We won't be coming back and I'm upset about that because I did enjoy your restaurant so much. Suzie Farrell

Yelp
This was my first time back since the late 90's. I sure like it now. Food is excellent, service was very good. The only thing the waiters were confused about was giving us all separate bills as we were a group of women dining that night. After one mistake, they finally got it right. If you are planning on separate bills in your group, let them know ahead of time. Parking can be a bit of a challenge if you are not familiar with the area, however.

Yelp
A lovely dinner, very attentive and knowledgeable service. There is a large wine selection and fixed and a la carte menu. Ample parking and an intimate, romantic atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed it and will certainly be back.

Corinna C.

Yelp
Wow!!! What an amazing treasure! The restaurant is in an old house with plenty of character. The floors creak as you walk, the decor is fitting to the era of the house, and when you sit down, you don't feel like you're in a run down small indistrial area of Surrey. The food was incredible! I had chicken with artichoke sauce and vegetables. Fabulous! The chicken had cream cheese inside. I never thought of cream cheese and chicke. Working - but they do. IMO this restaurant beats Horizons and the Harbour Centre rotating restaurant, Top of Vancouver, hands down!!!

Yelp
Very personable service, excellent food, brilliant presentation. Table side dining was a real experience, and the host was very accommodating. We had the 4 course special, and found it to be reasonably priced. The salad dressing was hand made in front of our table, and the steak seared while we watched, a brilliant experience.

Yelp
So, my partner and I waited for months before we found the time to go to this restaurant. We went on a weekday evening and it took 45mins to drive there. Our young server was bright, attentive and knew his offerings for the night. The lights were dim, the music was the perfect volume and the food was scrumptious. Then it all ended. A pharmaceutical company, not to be named, had the music turned off as doctors piled in to the restaurant and shortly after he basically was shouting that his company was buying their meals, he went into his sales pitch about how their patients should switch their depression and sleep medications to his company's drugs. He was obnoxious, loud and completely over the top. We asked the server if we could have some music to cancel the sound out and he said that the person hosting the meeting brings doctors in all the time and they basically take over the restaurant for this totally unethical display and that they told the restaurant to shut off the music. We attempted to bear it but couldn't and asked to be moved to another room, which they accommodated. Still his voice rang through the restaurant. 5 star dining with a side of obnoxious drug contraindications. We called the manager over to ask about this and he completely blew us off. We suggested he get a SONOS system so he could put music in our section of the restaurant for future visits and other customers down the road and close the doors to the sales pitch room.... no dice... He wasn't interested in our suggestions at all, which were actually very genuine. These 20 meals are far more important than the dining experience of other paying customers. It's a shame because during the time that we liked it, I considered renting the entire restaurant for my 50th birthday party. That being said, the food is good, but if you're gong... Ask if the doctors are in before you go there because it will infuriate you, just as it did us. Needless to say, because of the manager's behaviour... we won't be going back and I'm posting this everywhere. Buy us a drink or a dessert, act like you care... wtf?? I'd also like CRA to find out if the doctors are paying tax on these taxable benefits.... Whats the incentive AFTER their patients switch to these other drugs? A free trip to Hawaii?

Yelp
I've gone here 2 times with my gf, both of them were for special occasions. I have to say the experience was fantastic. The warm and dim lights set the mood when you walk in. The server was kind and welcoming, and the tables were well made. The food was amazing in taste, you might not get alot on the plate but it makes up for it for taste. They always have the best fresh fish of the month. They gave us free chefs special to try and sample. First one was crab cakes and the second time was prawn, and both were a unique taste... In a good way :) Like any restruant, their are some downsides. This place is above another restaurant and the parking for this place is not the greatest. I would not want to come here without a reservation since most of the time it's packed on the special days. We would come back here again.

Yelp
You wouldn't believe you're in the middle of Newton. The moment you enter through the doors the heritage home restaurant venue transports you to an intimate and comfortable setting. The front desk first attendant takes your coat before leading you to your candle lit table. Food: my partner and I celebrated a belated valentines dinner and both got a pre set 4 course special meal. Every item was deliciously prepared and plated. It was also a neat experience to have both the salad and ice cream prepared from scratch in front of the table. Food is pricey, but the portions are fair unlike other upscale restaurants I've visited. Venue: quiet, romantic, and tight knit. The parking outside is limited so I suggest carpooling if you go in bigger groups. Service: very good! This restaurant exercises a joint service team so you will have multiple people attending you. The downside of this is that it appears the servers don't always communicate so you'll have to repeat yourselves a couple time/ let them know someone already took your order. I think I'd return here for another fancy meal when I'm not in the mood to drive downtown. It's a great local business with a longstanding reputation.

Yelp
LOVE this place SO much. The service was very slow that's the only downside. The food was great and decently portioned. The ambience? Nice. Best thing to get there is the chateau briande! If not for the taste, the experience.

Yelp
I took my Aunt last night for her 80th Birthday and it was just wonderful. We both had the halibut and she had the chocolate pate for dessert with coffee. The last time I can remember being at the restaurant was in 1986 and I forgot how great the place was. We sat in the room across from the library. My Aunt had mentioned she had also remembered being there many years before. We both want to come back around Christmas time to see how it looks with all the decorations and to celebrate my birthday on the 19th of December. The staff there are all smartly dressed and are always right there to fill your water, bring fresh bread and are so nice and friendly. They were so many staff, but never in each other's way. The atmosphere there is so nice and cozy and private. The chairs are so comfortable, candlelight. It just feels like a home. We will be back soon. My new favourite place. Love it.

Yelp
Loved how the atmosphere relates back to an older time with the classic wallpapers, the classic furniture, and the old looking hardwood floor. Other than the ambiance, I would say everything was below par. The service was as slow as you can possibly imagine and when the food arrived it was soaked in oil. Most of our party did not finish their food because it felt like they reheated the food via the microwave technique. All to say, I was very disappointed as I heard a lot of good things about the restaurant.

Yelp
Classic French is the aim here. They do a good version of this. Space and furniture is tired, but quickly forgotten in lieu of the attentive service and very delicious food. Had the beef medallions-old school sauce and flavours, delicious. My guests raved about the croquette like potatoes. Attentive service, much appreciated! Wine list was mostly BC, but good cross section. Quiet and calm-nice change. Check it out!

Yelp
Great place, lovely service. The food tasted slightly thawed, but was good nonetheless.
