"Suzi’s Chinese’s predecessor on Burnet was a second location of the also-Chinese-American-Austin restaurant Old Thousand. It had opened in 2020, taking over what was Noble Sandwich Co., but closed in December 2023, because of the increasing costs of everything, including its rent. The original restaurant on East 11th Street is still open." - Nadia Chaudhury

"Austin Chinese American restaurant Old Thousand is closing its Brentwood location next month. The last day for the 4805 Burnet Road restaurant will be on Sunday, December 3. Old Thousand had to close its Burnet Road restaurant because of an increased rent and dealing with equipment breakdown, according to a newsletter it sent on November 24. “Considerable setbacks this year have made moving forward at this location untenable, namely the catastrophic failure of major equipment, and the pending 80 percent increase in the renewal of our lease,” it notes. And the shutter of its second location will allow the team to focus on the original Central East Austin restaurant on East 11th, which is staying open. The newsletter teases more events and extended hours. Old Thousand, under executive chef Jeff Brown, focuses on Chinese American dishes with Texas inflections. There’s the brisket fried rice, mala fried chicken, smoked salmon rangoons, and mapo fried tofu. There are also cocktails like the Old Thousand gin and tonic, Long Island iced teas, and Aperol spritzes. Old Thousand, under owner Ben Cachila, opened on 2016 on East 11th Street. The team expanded with this second location, taking over what had been notable restaurant Noble Sandwich Co. (which closed in 2019). The expansion opened in September 2020." - Nadia Chaudhury

This place is dope. The service is great, staff friendly, have a solid beer selection for a Chinese restaurant and the food came out pretty quickly. I had a 512 beer while waiting for my meal and it was a solid price and they had a surprising amount of craft for a Chinese spot in this location. The staff was friendly and the lunch special was enough food to leave you full but not stuffed. I really enjoyed the rice which was cooked well and sticky, the egg roll was phenomenal, really enjoyed it along with the sauce for the egg roll (which goes great on the rice if you want a pro-tip), but the general tso was okay. It wasn’t bad and I enjoyed it but I’d say it was a 4/5 experience. I’d like to try other dishes from here since I wasn’t particularly impressed with it BUT that doesn’t mean I don’t like it, and really if you order it I don’t think you’ll be disappointed but you also won’t go wow this is amazing either. Overall great atmosphere, great service and good solid food, it’s better than cheap Chinese but it doesn’t market itself as cheap Chinese so I have to give it 4 out of 5 since it’s higher end than cheap Chinese food. The place does in fact live up to its “Dope Chinese” name

We visited on a Friday night around 8PM. We waited at the front for a solid 5 minutes before I went searching through the restaurant to try to find someone to seat us. Once we sat down, we had to wait another 5 minutes for menus. To be honest, if I wasn’t starving.. I would have left. After taking a look around, we noticed there were only 2 servers and lots of full tables. The service honestly is awful. Luckily, the restaurant got slower but unfortunately, the service never improved. But the food is amazing! The general Tso’s chicken is amazing. Perfect crunch and spice. The brisket fried rice was also spectacular. We also really enjoyed the pork and shrimp dim sum. Shoutout to the chefs! Hopefully some effort is made to greet guests upon arrival and be more attentive to tables while they were eating. We were a little put off that we had to ask for a second round of drinks, water and utensils.

This establishment is 4 stars all the way through. I was at first taken aback by the relatively high prices and limited menu, however, the General Tsos chicken was very good. The pickled French onions were pretty good but the rice served with the dish was dry and paltry like tortillas at a Mexican restaurant. The extra bowl of rice I ordered made up for this because it was perfect. Service is friendly and efficient. The atmosphere is good, if a bit too warm. I liked the wash basin facilities outside the restrooms. All-in-all, a pretty great restaurant experience.

Google
4.5 stars! This place offers some really great Chinese food with a modern twist. Menu is pretty small but everything we had was tasty. Happy hour was offered but there’s not much to select from as the menu itself was small and prices were reasonable already. I could easily just pick 3-4 small plates for my next visit and be content. Parking is limited in the front when you turn in, but in the back lot there is more parking available.

A good friend told me this was his favorite spot so we had to check it out. We went at 5 on a Saturday and it wasn't busy at all. My friend recommended the fried green beans, brisket fried rice, and churro so that's exactly what we got. We added a few old fashioned and two other cocktails. The fried green beans were amazing and I also really liked the rice and brisket. The churro came with a matcha tea cream for dipping which wasn't bad but I liked the churro better without. Overall, we were very happy.

Google
General Tso's chicken was OK, I can't describe why it wasn't great but whatever the flavor was it was too strong to eat a lot of. That's a problem when even the lunch portion is large. The greens were good and standard. I'm a bit spoiled here; I've eaten Chinese greens enough that these are now just "good" instead of "ooh interesting". If you don't eat Chinese greens, order these, this is a good standard. The pickled cabbage with the chili oil (I think that's it) was very good, I would munch on that again. The hot and sour soup was a good kind of sour and quite hearty actually, so that was a good dish. The atmosphere is decent, airy and light. The service is exceptional, taking care of me the whole time. So the atmosphere and service are five stars, but the taste differences for the mains mean four stars.

Google
Delicious General Tso, spring roll, n hot n sour soup. I do love this place. I purchased the lunch special and loved it. This was my first time here. I'll be back. My server was super friendly. Everything just rocked.

Google
First time and likely my last one. The food is extremely salty for my personal taste. The taste is average. The music is played loudly. Quality of ingredients: 4* Taste: 2* Ambiance: 2* Service: 3* Price/quality ratio: 3*

Yelp
To be honest, I visited Old Thousand II without the highest of expectations. I knew that I wouldn't be eating "traditional" Chinese food and that it would be more Americanized. However, I was really pleasantly surprised with the menu and the food here! The servers were also very accommodating because I brought my dog, and they seated us outside and brought water for her. I came on a Sunday morning, so we had some items from the Sunday Brunch special. My group ordered the Mala Fried Chicken, Brisket Fried Rice, Cantonese Scramble, Chicken and Waffles, and General Tso's Chicken. The Mala Fried Chicken was really good and reminded me of the crispy fried chicken you could get from a more traditional Sichuan Restaurant. The brisket fried rice was also good and a favorite among my group. The General Tso's Chicken wasn't remarkable but wasn't bad either. The two standouts from my meal were the Chicken and Waffles and the Cantonese scramble. The waffles part of the dish were bubble waffles that you would find from a Hong Kong style dessert place, and they were honestly amazing. The waffle was crispy but had a soft interior, and they were a perfect, sweet complement to the fried chicken. I was surprised by how much I loved the Cantonese scramble. The people in the group I came with were Cantonese, and they had no idea what that was. But the egg was scrambled really nicely, and eating it with the rice and the chili sauce that was provided was a perfect sensory experience. If I come back, I would need to order this again!

Yelp
Holy hell, across the board, AMAZING food. I can't emphasize enough how good the mapo tofu was especially! It's different from the norm because it uses crispy, fried tofu cubes rather than soft. It's spicy in a way that's more flavorful than hot, with plenty of mouth-numbing Sichuan peppercorns. Plus, it's loaded with meaty mushrooms rather than pork; that makes it vegan by default! I need to get back out for happy hour, ASAP.

Yelp
My boyfriend picked out some takeout from here and I was very happy with it! I saw they had barbacoa lo mein and I was over the moon. That was absolutely incredible, so much flavor! I added some chili oil to it. Pretty spicy but not overwhelming. The barbacoa lo mein is a 5/5 for sure. My boyfriend got the pork belly fried rice. The pork belly was amazing, had a great glaze on it and the portion was plenty! The fried rice was a little dry however. The chili oil was good on that as well but didn't fix the dry rice entirely. The shumai was meh. Wouldn't order again. The inside didn't have any flavor, all I could taste was the outer dumpling noodle. There was no sauce with it either. Next time we'll get the ribs as our starter. Sorry my pics suck, I was HUNGRY

Yelp
Visited mid-week, partially to try them out, and to watch Cocaine Bear that they were showing. It was pretty empty around 7PM and we sat on the patio since that's where the TV was. We got a couple of different items to get a sampling of their food, including the fried chicken, mapo tofu, and fried rice; along with some drinks, which I found too sweet, I found the chicken and mapo tofu way too salty, and others at the table agreed. The fried rice was ok but a bit dry. The service was great and they were really nice and prompt, it's just unfortunate that their food wasn't very good. I know they have another location south but I think I got a good enough of an idea of their food.

Yelp
Overall Old Thousand was an okay experience. The staff was really kind and very informative. The food was okay. For price to portion it was a bit off. The best thing was the chicken and waffles. The bubble waffle was a different touch with the popcorn chicken bites and Asian herbs. They did advertise mama fried chicken but didn't get much spice. The Hong Kong French toast had a weird tangy taste I couldn't get over. I wasn't a fan. The chili wonton are fine as the crab Rangoon's.

Yelp
We had a fantastic dinner here on Friday night. They close at 9, so make sure to get there before then. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. We had to wait for about 30 minutes because it was very busy, but the food was well worth the wait! The indoor seating area was very well decorated and there was loud music which I really liked. We ended up sitting outside and it was a lot quieter, but it was peaceful. They also had a live stream of some panda on outside which was fun. The only critique I have of this Old Thousand is that the ordering on a phone is pretty annoying. It was fine for me, but I can't bring my mom or older relatives here to try it because you have to order on a smart phone. Mapo Tofu - this is the best Mapo tofu I've ever had. The flavor in the sauce is tangy and has a kick. The tofu is perfectly crispy. I would come back here just to eat this dish again Chongqing Chicken - this dish was okay. I wish there was a bit more flavor. The chicken did taste great, but it just feels like it's missing something. Brussel Sprouts - I don't like Brussel sprouts to begin with, so I didn't eat much of this dish. It did look and taste kinda burnt though. Green Beans - I don't like green beans, but I tried one just for fun and they tasted like green beans. I didn't have another one. I don't know how people can eat green beans. General Tso's Chicken - this was alright. I think I'm use to general tso's chicken having a bolder flavor. This one was more sweet than I usually like. They put some apples on it, which I don't think really goes well in this dish. Pretty good though.

Yelp
Pleasant surprise- they have a back patio that's dog friendly! I will definitely be back with my puppy! The other surprise is that they offer HH from 3pm to 6pm on weekdays in drinks (wine, beer, cocktails). We came at an odd hour and service was prompt and attentive! Fun and casual atmosphere. Will need to come back and try their brunch items

Yelp
Old Thousand strikes again with a second location off the infamous Burnet Road which is arguably one of the top 3 streets in Austin for food (with the other's being S. Lamar and N. Lamar). This is the second location for Old Thousand, sister to their original location off East 11th St. There is ample parking behind the restaurant but there is also a decent amount in the front. Like most places on Burnet, you shouldn't run into downtown-like or even S. Lamar parking issues. There isn't a ton of seating inside // it's probably half the size of the East 11th location and I think a lot of patrons order take-out. The menu is largely identical and the food is just as good at this one as it is at the original location. Be prepared to enjoy some peppercorn spiciness (numbing + tingly mouth feel) to enjoy the best dishes at Old Thousand. First timers should definitely try the Mala Fried Chicken, Cucumber Salad, and Mapo Fried Tofu. You can jump between all of these for both a savory and refreshing mix. They only have one dessert - the Pandan donut holes and it is delightful. It's a fresh donut hole with Pandan cream on it - a mildly fragrant sauce that isn't too sweet. Like most of Austin, you can come dressed up or dressed down - either way you're here for the food and you won't be dissapointed.

Yelp
I really loved the samurai cocktail. Really creative fusion menu. I appreciated the take and twist on traditional Chinese foods. The service was excellent.

Yelp
Def deserves 5 stars. Came today (Sunday) for an early lunch. SERVICE: I noticed the QR code on the table and internally rolled my eyes. While I like being able to place my order as soon as we're ready, it usually means you get little to no table service. Not the case here. Not only did our food come out within minutes (less than 10!), two servers would come by and ask if we needed anything, brought us water without asking, etc. The level of service here + the efficiency of Toast is exactly it should be! FOOD: Chicken chili potstickers -- they were okay. Could've done without. Comes with 4 or 5 pieces. The lime flavor was overpowering. Brisket fried rice -- so good. Saw the reviews and knew we'd have to try it. Did not disappoint and it's packed with flavor. General Tso chicken -- another large serving, perfect amount of spice, good mix of meaty pieces and smaller fried chunks. Pecan bubble waffle -- I'm either not Asian enough or not hip enough, but I've never heard of a bubble waffle before. The description intrigued me (Miso Brown Butter, Coffee Syrup, Thyme, Lemon) and it was only $7 so we added it on last minute. The first bite reminded me of a perfectly cooked funnel cake. The flavors were unique and our tastebuds were happy. It's part of their brunch menu so you gotta time it right if you want to try it. I read in some reviews about the fried green beans. It's one of my fave things to order and was looking forward to it but I didn't see it on the menu. Perhaps it's not available during brunch hours? We walked away SO full. Did not expect the servings to be as large as they were and everything was on point. AMBIANCE: Love the eclectic decor mixed with super traditional Chinese restaurant flair. The music lived up to the name. We'll be back and those green beans better be on the menu! ;-)

Yelp
Very chic place with a "dope vibe." FOOD: Chongqing chicken appetizer is crispy, with a bit of heat. It's a great appetizer to split! (4/5) General Tsos chicken with rice is a 5/5 (clean, crispy, and flavorful - a great rendition of an Americanized Chinese dish) Brisket fried rice is a bit confusing and still good, but a bit odd at some bites (4/5) COST: a bit costly for Chinese food, but the ambience is quite nice! Cheers

Desiree A.

Yelp
This place is definitely "dope Chinese"! When you arrive, you scan the QR code and order directly from your phone. You pay that way too. We ended up ordering too much because... we'll everything sounded delicious. And it was! We ordered the mala fried chicken, brisket fried rice, and beef ginger scallion lo mein. On the side we had egg rolls and cabbage pickles. All of it was crazy good! Since we didn't finish it all (no surprise there) we took leftovers home. Two days later, it was still delicious all over again. We went for lunch on a Tuesday and there was no wait. Highly recommend that you go with friends and share the meal.

Yelp
A good friend told me this was his favorite spot so we had to check it out. We went at 5 on a Saturday and it wasn't busy at all. My friend recommended the fried green beans, brisket fried rice, and churro so that's exactly what we got. We added a few old fashioned and two other cocktails. The fried green beans were amazing and I also really liked the rice and brisket. The churro came with a matcha tea cream for dipping which wasn't bad but I liked the churro better without. Overall, we were very happy.

Desiree G.

Yelp
Next door's pinthouse pizza was closed for renovations so parking was a breeze. The inside of this spot was pretty toasty on a 100 degree day. Inside and cute and there is a little outdoor patio area that looked like it had heaters but no cooling. Menu was all through the QR code. You're able to split items by person so it made check out simple. Spice bowl on the happy hour menu was delicious! Easily could have been a meal on its own. Mapu tofu was really tasty. The tofu was fried and covered in this delicious sauce and mushrooms. Will definitely come back to try a noodle dish. Would highly recommended this spot for those looking for vegan options.

Jessica N.

Yelp
The food definitely lives up to the name of the restaurant and I look forward to my next visit. They have the QR code that allows you to order and pay from your phone, which I think is great. All while the staff still check in on you. My favorite item we ordered were the green beans but the chicken was pretty damn good too. All fresh and packing with flavors. I wasn't a big fan of the brisket fried rice, I think the flavor of bbq meat was just throwing me off. I do want to try the veggie fried rice the next time I visit. There were many items I want to try next time. We sat on the patio and it was nice and quiet, as well the fans were on so for an evening in June it was a very comfortable setting. Please note there is parking in the back!

John F.

Yelp
I like this place, it is very local to us and the 2-3 times that we have been here have always delivered. Sadly the chicken sandwich was no longer on the menu, so I had to go with the salt and pepper tofu. The mean was flavorful with just the right amount of spice - enough that you're reaching for your drink, but not so much that you're looking for the exit. A great, fast lunch. The staff is nice and attentive. I'm not a fan of the ordering system, that is pretty confusing. I realize that this might be a holdover from the pandemic days, but it is just really unclear. When they took us to our table they didn't explain whether we would have someone coming to wait on us or whether we needed to place our order online. Hopefully they'll get that sorted out with a little more consistency.

Kelsey D.

Yelp
Old Thousand's brunch is truly dope! I Love the various sweet and savory options on the menu, and that their brunch menu continues until 3 p.m. Although it surprised us at first, we were able to order easily online from our table. The pecan bubble waffles with added black pepper karaage are my favorite!

Rachel W.

Yelp
I stumbled upon this hole in the wall establishment after getting a sudden craving for Chinese food last week. Boy, am I sure glad that I gave this place a try! I really enjoyed the vibe and ambience of this place. The covered patio seating is perfect for dining in the fresh breeze on a beautiful day. The dish ware that the food is served on is so gorgeous- I might have to ask the owner where they order them from the next time. I ordered an egg roll, hot and sour soup, and Mapo Tofu with white rice. I fell in love with everything that I ordered. I typically don't like eating tofu, but the sauce had just the right amount of spice and kick to it and was hard to resist. So many flavors did a happy dance in my mouth. The portion sizes are very generous and pricing is good. I will be recommending this place to friends and family when they visit from out of town and so should you! You will not be disappointed. I am hoping that they end up expanding their menu a bit in the future to add more incredible dishes.

Paige M.

Yelp
Caught a late lunch with a coworker and it was nice to have the place mostly to ourselves. We shared everything so we could try more of the menu. Started off with the shumai which was amazing. I loved these dumplings so much that I temporarily forgot my burning hatred of odd number appetizers. They are that distractingly good. Next up was the brisket lotus rice. I had high expectations and it just wasn't my favorite. It felt overly spiced to me and just overwhelmed my tastebuds a bit. Lastly we had the General Tao's Chicken. I usually avoid this dish because it makes me feel basic but I loved it and it is updated and unique while still being true to this iconic dish. Loved the decor inside and the service. They were helpful in letting us know how many dishes we should order to make a complete meal. The shotgun style makes it feel more intimate and many seats can see into the kitchen which can be fun.

Bo B.

Yelp
Great Americanized Chinese food here. The Cantonese egg was delicious as was the general tso's chicken. There is a patio in the back and the main dining room is quite spacious.

David D.

Yelp
Big fan of the downtown location, so when this gem popped up on my "restaurants" search this afternoon you can only imagine my delight. Arrive around one on a beautiful Sunday and the place was not crowded. I'm enjoying the toasttab app for ordering and paying. Very efficient. My only complaint with that is when you need something like napkins there is no button to just call a staff member over. Overall though, like I said, efficient. We ordered the Garlic Wok greens, McLumpia, and Chongqing Chicken. To put it subtly, each dish is was exploding with flavor! The greens were perfectly sautéed, fresh, with lots of garlic. The lumpia was crisp and the special sauce was so good we order more of it. And the chicken - fried but not greasy and with a delicious kick. Cannot wait to being friends and fam over to share this experience. And of course, the service provided by Justin was excellent.

Edwyn A.

Yelp
Been to the original old thousand before and during the pandemic I ordered allot of take out from the original location so finally decided to try the Burnet location. This location has mostly the same menu. The space is pretty spacious and there's an outdoor deck out back that is shaded as well. Service now is done through QR code. I like the QR code method because it's easy to figure out how much your spending. With everything being so expensive these days, the food here is a tad on the higher end for Americanized Chinese favorites so closer to P.F. Chang's prices than Panda Express . However the increased prices are justified as the food is very tasty and cooked more professionally than your strip mall Chinese take out. You can taste some woke hei (breath of the wok) that is very rare in Austin. Of the three dishes that were ordered, only one that I thought could've been less salted and that's the beef scallion lo mein. Also they used a thinner more ramen like noodle and I would've preferred more of a spaghetti noodle. The other two dishes the general tso's and the green beans were extremely yummy. They also have a good price for fernet too. So get a shot or two. Since everything is done through the app, the service isn't as present but I have to say they do go out of their way to come by and check on you. A good option if you are looking for dope Chinese.

Kaitlin O.

Yelp
Friendly staff who were super accommodating of our large party of 20. Decided to order family style to try a variety of dishes: -beef and broccoli (4/5): Tender and flavorful beef, overall nothing special when compared to other restaurants' beef and broccoli -brisket fried rice (5/5): Delicious brisket and Chinese sausage -some sort of garlic scallion noodles w/ pork (4/5): Great flavor, but noodles were a bit too salty -smoked fire noodle (5/5): My personal favorite of the night; if you don't have a high spice tolerance, then do not order! Overall, portion sizes were pretty small for the price so I probably would only come back for more special occasions!

Clint S.

Yelp
The experience yesterday was a mixed bag. We were among maybe 3-5 other tables, but something just seemed off. The food was okay, but the noodles in the lo mein, which are normally thicker were thin like angel hair pasta which was odd, plus the ground pork was sour, and my cocktail was just too smoky for me. The green beans were delicious though. Overall not the worst experience, but after after seeing the crowds going into the restaurant next door, maybe we will try that one.

Aria H.

Yelp
Lunch menu was a bit limited but I got the general tso special with a veggie egg roll: about $16. It was really good, great spice level. Will definitely be back to try other things.

Gabriella G.

Yelp
This place was a surprise. A very unassuming front (located on a small strip mall: there is more parking in the back, very few spots in the front!) let to a rather smallish restaurant and an even smaller menu considering this is a Chinese food place... all good people: the food is really good! I guess it's a fusion-type place? None of the offerings were "standard" (except maybe the veggie egg roll!) (and even that came with a superior sauce!) everything was special and so we first were taken aback (we didn't recognize anything!!) but decided to venture onwards and asked our waiter for help. He suggested to go for 2 appetizers and recommended the string beans and we chose a "safety" egg roll- lol; and then we chose the only 2 safety entrees... I should've been more adventurous but we will return! This place is big on noodle plates so we will try those next. FYI: the menu had like 5-6 appetizer options and 5-6 main entrees... so really a 1 page and toss the dice! Well: everything was awesome. When he brought all the choices and we bit into that delicious egg roll... and tried those tenderly cooked and sauces up pungent and sweet string beans: we were in heaven! Dope Chinese indeed! So the fried rice seemed like such a banal choice... the orange chicken was lightly lightly breaded and succulent, and if I may say that there was too much meat to the rice (is that possible?) that would be my only comment. Come early, come hungry, get everything on the menu and leave happy! I will def come with more friends so we may have a better selection to chose from! Enjoy!

Michelle G.

Yelp
Deliciousness !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Picked up curbside, ready, good, and fast. But we definitely need to go in and sit down to enjoy more.

Jesus G.

Yelp
The Chinese food here is soooo good! It's trendy but authentic at the same time. The lunch special comes with an entree, egg roll and picked cucumbers with the right amount of flavor and spice! The servers were attentive and friendly. It was busy for lunch testifying of it's validity.

Katie G.

Yelp
I enjoyed Dope Chinese so much! They play awesome 2000s throwbacks! They also have a great cocktail list-their mezcal margarita was perfect. So many vegan options!! The green beans, Brussels sprouts, and salt & pepper tofu were delicious. Service was friendly and cute interior. Easy to find seating for 5 on a Thursday night without a reservation. They have a cool QR code where you can simply order/split between multiple parties. Looking forward to coming back!

Yelp
On a seemingly eternal quest for yummy Asian food in Austin - which I'm now convinced doesn't exist. As a result, was thrilled to find Old Thousand II, I mean it's called Dope Chinese, and I really REALLY wanted to like it, so sad to be leaving this review. We ordered (yes, it's a lot, I was really excited): Chili wontons Pork and shrimp shumai Chongqing chicken (*Yummiest*) Garlic wok greens Veggie egg roll Cabbage pickles Salt & pepper tofu Beef ginger scallion lo mein I asked our server if the salt and pepper tofu and the beef lo mein were spicy and she said no. She told me the tofu had regular pepper and if you find that spicy.... it was not regular pepper, it was a sichuan pepper mix (which apparently gets dusted on most dishes) and is quite spicy. When I asked if we could skip the serranos in the lo mein, she said no. I had come here as a treat to my 9 year old who loves Asian food and all she ate was jasmine rice. Sadly, I will not be returning and will continue my quest for yummy Asian.

Yelp
One of the best meals we've had recently! The garlic greens were truly DOPE! Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
TLDR: Dope Chinese food that lives up to the name Came in one night for dinner. Was seated pretty much right away, which was great. One thing of note is they had ordering and payment off of a scanned barcode, which I dislike personally, but also understand why it exists. To start, I got a cocktail to drink. For the life of me I can't remember the name of the drink, and seemingly forgot to write it down in my notes. It was however, very good. For food, I got the Brisket fried rice, and yes, it tastes as amazing as you'd expect fried rice & brisket to taste. It also has these wonderful seared medallions of sausage sprinkled throughout. This dish alone is worth coming back for. Definitely recommend ordering this on your first time through. Overall, I had some nitpicky complaints (the ordering system, rather inconsistently cut ingredients in the fried rice, ice shards in the cocktail), but on every major point, they hit. 4.75/5.

Yelp
Dope Chinese had cool decor and good service. We came in pretty close to closing and they were still willing to serve us which was nice of them. The service was super fast as well, although we only shared the room with maybe two others in the building. The popcorn ramen was tasty and came with a lime sauce. Only downside is it was sitting next to something cold, which didn't ruin it however, it was a little weird to eat popcorn that was cold and not room temperature. The General Tso's was ok in my opinion but, my boyfriend loved it. I will say the portion size was generous. I think I am just not used to non-Americanized Chinese food. Overall, it was decent but I'm not in a rush to return.

Yelp
If I could give this place a 3.5 I would. I do think this is a solid place to go. Their Old thousand, a take on an old fashioned, was DELICIOUS. However, while their food was good it wasn't knock your socks off. I would also say the music was a bit loud for my taste. It was also pretty explicit. Which is fine I just wasn't expecting it. The other thing to note is I was at a big table and the QR code for the menu was only on the very end of the table. Maybe add another code at the other side?

Yelp
I liked the mala sandwich! The TSO was better for me though maybe just because I'm not a fan of sandwiches but if you are give it a try. They don't have dine in at the moment but there is a minimal spot of sitting outside. The service was good and fast. The chicken on the mala sandwich is sooo juicy and tender. Also, the bun are well buttered. My chicken was just a bit tad pink that's why i didn't fully finish it. It's a good amount size for one person or split.

Yelp
Been coming here ever since I moved to Austin a couple years ago so we'll overdue in giving them a review but first time visiting the Burnet location. Best thing on the menu hands down is the brisket fried rice I get it almost every time. If veggies are more your speed go with the green beans as the honey mustard vinaigrette takes it to the next level! Some other notable standouts include the chongqing chicken and the veggie egg rolls. Dine in or take out you can't go wrong here as the food is always incredible. If you dine in make sure to check out the unique decor and take in the 90s hip hop tunes playing throughout your dining experience. So happy to have such a dope Chinese place I can go to regular that doesn't break the bank.

Yelp
All the food we tried was ok. A few things were good. A few things were over seasoned. The staff was nice, we were there just as they opened so it wasn't too busy. Will try again to have a better idea.

Yelp
Wanted to try this place since I moved to Austin 4 years ago. Finally went on a Friday. Very low key and cool ambience. They have switched to ordering from your phone which is fine but I feel loads the experience at a Chinese restaurant. I had the Xiao Mían which is a vegan dish but would've love to see an option to add pork!!! It was a little dry but tasty. Also got the pot stickers which were good. A little pricey, but I'd visit again.

Yelp
Wow! This food was so amazing cute little spot. The staff was friendly & took care of us. I would definitely go again. The cabbage pickles or pickled whatever it's called was yummy! I also enjoyed by general Tso. I wish I would've taken a photo of the establishment it was cute.

Yelp
Great food and the servers were great also! The north location is much more chill than the downtown location and that can actually be nice that you can be seated right away without having to deal with crowds or waits. I actually appreciate that. My only complaint is that the prices are quite high for mostly rice based and fairly typical Chinese dishes.

Yelp
We went on a day when the wait staff had all called in sick (morning after Halloween hangovers?) and there was one guy and his daughter waiting the entire restaurant. You would think this would be a problem but no! Everything came out fast and hot and the guy even made us a fresh pot of coffee even though he first said they didn't have any. He must had felt sorry for us with our sad faces (morning after Halloween hangovers?). We had been before and would most definitely return. The brunch on sundays is amazing. Such great portions to share.

Yelp
Our friends told us to meet them at Old Thousand. I was the first one there and asked for a table for 10. The server who greeted me said, "Eww, 10?" I said, "Yeah, sorry, we were just told to come here." He said, "Usually people make reservations." Side note, I did not see an option for that on their website. Anyway, that guy seemed really bothered and told the kitchen a table of 10 just walked in, then I heard an expo or line cook yell, "Are you f**king serious?" Ma'am, you work in an open kitchen. I can hear you. I told them, "We can go somewhere else if you want." Someone who seemed like a manager tried to de-escalate the situation but we were already not interested in dining there. My friends and I ALL have worked in the service industry or currently still work in the SI, and we couldn't imagine treating a group that way. I can understand a 10 person group being annoying but it's doable. Also, the restaurant wasn't that busy.

Yelp
1st try and definitely not impressed. Decided to go with the beef lomaine and it is ground beef. Went with the lunch special and deftly not worth $13 for ground beef. The flavor is just OK mostly spice with a hint of garlic and Ginger The flavor is just OK mostly spice with a hint of garlic and Ginger.

Yelp
Oh my goodness, run don't walk to get their chinese churro donuts with pandan creme!!! This may be just be my new favorite dessert in town. Also really loved their noodles in particular. Will definitely be coming back!

Yelp
When you see a sign that says "Dope Chinese" you can't not check the place out, am I right? I tried the Mala Fried Chicken and it was delicious. Breading was crunchy and crispy without being heavy or oily, and the meat was juicy. Definitely felt the spicy, so be aware if you're spice-intolerant! For the portion size and taste, I think the price ($15.50) is not bad. I also tried the Eggroll, but wasn't impressed since it was on the bland side. The menu is smaller than you're usual Chinese take-out but there are options for various dietary needs (gluten-free, vegan). Parking may be limited since it's a shared lot but it's not too bad. Service was friendly and quick. They're doing take-out only right now, but they have some tables outside where you can sit and they'll bring out plates. Warning if you do sit outside: you will have to battle against a lot of flies. Overall, I would go back again. I've already love the Mala Fried Chicken, but would be interested in trying some other dishes.

Yelp
First time coming in here and ordered the General Tso's chicken. Food came out fast and hot. I took the rest home with me to finish eating and I bit into a bone. Not too big of a deal but then I proceeded to bite into the rest of the chicken and had to spit it out. Something was off about the rest of my 4 large pieces of meat. $20 for this meal...no thanks.

Yelp
Pros: *Great food *Friendly service (at least for takeout, have not dined in) *Convenient location *Menu has lots of veggie options Cons: Price is where you will notice the biggest difference with other similar restaurants. They offer what would best be described as "elevated Chinese," so PF Chang's prices are the baseline, and it only goes up from there, $4.50 for a single egg roll, $9.50 for a side of green beans...Yikes! Also they currently have a built in Staff Wellness Gratuity. I wasn't sure if that is temporary because of COVID, or a permanent separate line item to ensure living wage / health care for their employees, or just one of those things where tip is automatically included. I added an additional tip anyway, but all in all it made for an expensive meal for takeout. We've tried pretty much everything veggie. Noodles and egg plant are our favorites. This is their second location, the sign on the store front says "Dope Chinese" which is a little confusing. Other restaurants like Bufalina Due or Uchi / Uchiko have a bit more elegant way to having multiple locations with slightly different names. The full movie title for this place would be "Old Thousand: Dope Chinese: The Burnet Location-based on the restaurant Old Thousand on 11th street"

Yelp
Solid bites of Chinese flavors in Allendale. The service was quick and the food was delicious!
