Low-key, snug stop offering an array of Chinese standards from fried rice to lo mein & crispy duck.
"Oh look, it’s 2am and that loaf of Soreen you bought from the Tesco on Waterloo Place has seemingly not done the trick. Hungry post-parade reveller, meet Old Town 97. Old Town 97, meet hungry post-parade reveller. We have a feeling you’re going to get along. The classic Chinatown Cantonese establishment has a 3:30am closing time, so you can rock up here and eat stir-fried duck in black bean sauce or the wonton noodles prior to facing the journey home. Plus, there are plenty of big group tables so go ahead and declare this your roasted meats afterparty. " - heidi lauth beasley, sinead cranna
"Until 3:30am daily Everyone has that one friend who stops drinking after their third glass and who lovingly butters a piece of toast for you. For us, that friend is Old Town 97. This converted townhouse is one of the best spots in Chinatown for big group tables, a quick turnaround, and a 3:30am closing time. They serve lots of Cantonese classics, but what you’ll really want to get involved in is the stir-fried duck in black bean sauce or the fried udon with shredded duck." - jake missing, sinead cranna
"Everyone has that one friend. You know, the one who lovingly butters a piece of toast for you while saying, “eat this, you’ll feel better for it in the morning”. For us, that friend is Old Town 97. This converted townhouse isn’t necessarily the best Chinese spot in all of Chinatown but thanks to their big group tables, quick turnaround, and 4am-ish closing time, it’s arguably the most useful. Get involved in the duck section of the menu—everything from the stir-fried duck in black bean sauce to the fried udon with shredded duck are go-to winners. " - Team Infatuation
"Closing time: 3.30am every day of the week Old Town 97, our sweet knight in shining, glistening kong po pork armour. We have drunkenly cried here, we have hysterically laughed here, and we have sat here and shared a whole crispy duck with our best, best friend who we literally met in a nightclub toilet 18 minutes earlier. An entirely casual Chinatown restaurant serving Cantonese and Southeast Asian classics, their long, long menu is an absolute nightmare for anyone who’s indecisive, but trust us when we say the duck dishes should be on your table." - heidi lauth beasley
"Chinatown used to be a village of nighthawks, but now only a smattering of Cantonese cafes still cater towards the late-night revellers and the post-shift chefs. Old Town ‘97 is one of them, still open until 4 a.m., where the food is a compilation of the best midnight snacks. Ho fun in slippery egg sauce, charred and gloopy, sweet salted egg yolk chicken wings, better than average roast meats, and of course LSE rice. This og London off-menu option is eggs, cubed: pork belly in honey and pepper egg sauce, egg fried rice and a fried egg on top." - Jonathan Nunn
