Highlights

Fish Bar was established in 2011 in the heart of Lakeview Chicago. To this day, it serves elevated seafood dishes focusing on sustainably sourced fish and fresh produce. The Old Town location is a product of collaboration between industry veterans Adrian Gaytan and chef Junior Fonseca and a partnership with DMK Restaurants. We are now open and looking forward to seeing you soon!

"Fish Bar, which was founded by DMK, has opened a second location on Wells Street in Old Town with a new franchisee. The restaurant offers a fish and chips set with beer-battered cod and slaw." - Ashok Selvam, Eater Staff

I came here on Friday night. No reservation was needed. Ordered French fries, mussels, and a Skinny Margarita. The service was very nice, the food - amazing! I loved the place itself - chic, hipster atmosphere, reminded me of Bushwick or Williamsburg place in NYC. Loved it, totally recommend.

Cute, cozy new spot in old town. The inside can seem quite small but holds a surprisingly large amount of people when it gets busy. The shrimp ceviche is AMAZING and very well balanced, especially considering I’m pretty picky about ceviche. The salmon tartare is also super good, it has bigger fish pieces and reminds me more of a poké. I appreciate that there are also some non-fish options along with the variety of fish dishes. It was a fun time and I’ll be back!

Google
Nice place to sit down and get food. The people here are really nice and helpful with their menu. The menu is relatively small so there are limited options.

Google
Stumbled across this place before catching a show at Second City. Food and service were both great. The salmon dish with fingerling potatoes and cauliflower purée was a knockout and amazing value. The calamari was light and fresh not chewy at all, highly recommend. Guest had broccoli salad with Salmon and a Paloma which was expertly poured and tasty.

Google
Awesome place! This is going to be a great edition to the neighborhood. Really cozy vibe inside, food was delicious and the staff were all nice. I love the “open kitchen” setup. Great Chicago beers on tap.

Food and drinks are amazing! Owners and staff are all very friendly and professional. Such a nice vibe.

Google
Great aesthetic, awesome music :) the food was outstanding and the chefs were knowledgeable and helpful regarding questions we had about the menu. Some of the best French Fires i have ever had in my life... Must visit if you're in Old Town!

Google
Pretty disappointing lobster rolls, especially for the price. And the fish and chips were subpar. You can find better at almost any decent pub. Atmosphere was pretty standard, nothing special. And the service was fine. When you ask for ketchup for your 4 orders that come with fries and tots, they gave us 6 ketchup packets. I’m paying $180 for 4 people and I can’t even get a bottle of ketchup?! McDonald’s is more generous with their condiments.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised by this place! The other restaurants that used to be in this spot did not last very long, but I hope Fish Bar stays! Wells Street between North and Division really needs a casual but still sit down food option, so we are happy they're here! Seating inside is pretty limited, but we didn't have any issue walking in. Limited staff, but we didn't feel like we had to wait a long time. They have great happy hour deals and has a lovely neighborhood-feel to the place. Oysters are $2 on Wednesdays, and the drinks are also half off until 7. Would say the kinda strange thing was that we didn't get plates with our shared options. For instance, the mussels just came with its normal serving bowl, then a bowl for the shell. Not a huge deal, and didn't think it was worth bringing it up to our server. They probably would give you one if you asked haha. Oysters for $2 is a great deal and we will def be back for them!

Christina S.

Yelp
I love this place-solid Fish and Chips and exceptional Lobster Roll which had huge pieces of meat-the chef makes his own Tartar Sauce which is "rare to find in Chicago!" I am going back in the next week-to double check-I thought it was stellar!!! More later!

Yelp
Gotta get the lobster mac!! equivalent to trulucks (iykyk) and the staff is so kind and welcoming great place to spend a friday

Jessica V.

Yelp
This place was empty when we showed up at 7:30. But we gave them a chance. Thought this place was a solid 3. Things I missed-salt and acid in the dishes. Started with calamari. Dipping sauce was good, but missed the lemon and a bit of salt. The Parmesan just wasn't enough. Fish taco was good but slaw was bland. I did ask for lemon which they brought. Mussels were bland. Menu says hominy, I didn't see any. Also needed acid and/or salt which wasn't on the table. Po'boy bun was over toasted/burnt tasting.

Jen E.

Yelp
I had high hopes for this but this was abysmal. Ceviche came out with barely any shrimp, prepackaged salsa mix and chips. We also ordered a dozen (12 west coast oysters) and a smaller order of calamari. The server originally told us he only had 6 west coast oysters so we said sure 6 west coast and 6 east coast. We were sitting close to the kitchen and heard the person making the food that he only had 4 west coast. They NEVER told us after bringing it out. I believe that is completely disrespectful to patrons. They just took it upon themselves to decide to replace it with east coast oysters. The calamari was also soft and gross with premade cocktail sauce. Don't come here.

Yelp
This place is GREAT! I cannot wait to go back! I went with my mom this past Saturday for a lunch of oysters, chopped salad, and a side of lobster Mac. Everything was delicious! They had a guava soda, which was delicious... I got mine spiked with a shot of tequila (which was also delicious). This is a great addition to Wells!

Karin G.

Yelp
Flavor was great, value was questionable. Paloma negra cocktail - 5/5. Good dose of alcohol and tasty Oysters - 2/5. They tasted fine but for $3.5 a piece they were absolutely tiny Satchmo - 3/5. Flavor and texture was fantastic but for $16 I would have liked more than 4 or 5 small shrimp! Tater tots were fine but it felt like they were used to pad the dish too much. I wanted to get an order of the shrimp appetizer to add to it. Service - 5/5 very friendly!

Yelp
We stopped by for an early Sunday evening dinner. Great ambiance and the server Alex was super friendly & talkative. The salmon for my salad was perfectly cooked and the fish & chips was delish. Really loved the house made tartar sauce.

Michelle M.

Yelp
Ugh. Wanted to love so bad and had such high hopes. Our first red flag should've been when every other establishment around was packed and we walked right in, way early for our reservation, and there were only a few other tables taken. We sat at the bar and it was downhill from there. The bar is right across from the grill...which was gross. I had visions of John Taffer freaking out at the sight. The bar doesn't have Jack Daniels which was odd as that seems pretty standard and the cocktail I ordered was lackluster also. The bartender was nice, but he kept having to break bad news to us because they were out of several food items too. We ended up leaving after our drinks and finding a different restaurant for dinner before our show.

Cheyenne G.

Yelp
This is a great new addition to Wells street. It's a cute little restaurant, friendly staff, and great patio seating. I tried the gumbo which I was skeptical about because who is going to top NOLA gumbo? But this gumbo was quite delicious! I would certainly recommend a bowl if you're ever in the area. I will say though the service was quire slow... we waited around 15 minutes for our drink orders but it was a Friday so perhaps it was an off night?

Cole M.

Yelp
Wonderful experience, amazing service, tasteful music, lovely atmosphere, and truly a memorable time with lovely people.

Yelp
The French Onion Soup was the star of the show - non traditional but absolutely delicious. The onions were a perfect consistency and the cheese covered bread was a great addition. The fried shrimp was really greasy and seemed to have been over cooked. The lobster Mac and cheese had big chunks of lobster, but the flavor was a little bit lacking. Overall portions were small and it wasn't the stand-out meal I was hoping for with the prices being as high as they are. Service was good, ambiance is cute, but you can get better, more reasonably priced seafood many other places in the city.

Kevin M.

Yelp
I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. The food is outstanding and the service is great. We had oysters, the satchmo sandwich (think shrimp po-boy), the lobster roll and the fried shrimp. Everything was extremely fresh and tasted amazing. The shrimp were hand-battered and the house made cocktail sauce was delicious. If you are looking for some good food, you should make it a point to go to The Fish Bar

Alejandro B.

Yelp
The food was amazing and the staff were attentive and friendly. The menu is short and simple and they crush every item. I had the French onion soup and seared salmon and both were delicious.

Asa T.

Yelp
I had a high hopes for this place but when we got there around 12:30pm peak lunch time on Saturday, there was nobody. That got me worried. We had fish and chips which was great for the value with nice amount of fish. Fish was perfectly fried. But no taste for coleslaw. Octopus taco was chewy again bland different coleslaw. Beets salad was good just good. Lobster mac & cheese was ok. It wasn't creamy. Clumpy sauce.

Jim W.

Yelp
Love the fresh seafood with a nice mix of selections. Soups are always on the menu as well as great, creative appetizers and entrees. Small, intimate space is perfect for Wells St. I recommend this place to friends and family!

Samir M.

Yelp
I came here a couple weeks ago with friends and decided to try it since we were in the mood for seafood. I can honestly say that we were all blown away by the quality of the food and the open kitchen atmosphere of the restaurant. We actually ordered quite a few items off of the menu and sampled them amongst everyone but I really loved the mussels and the ceviche! To be honest though, there was nothing on the menu that I wouldn't want to try again. Obviously seafood needs to be paired with a good drink and the cocktails they had here were fantastic (particularly the Paloma). All in all the food and vibes here were amazing and I will definitely be coming back!

Brittany K.

Yelp
We had such a great dinner here! Old Town was in need of another quality, casual restaurant (that wasn't a bar) and Fish Bar is IT! The food, drinks and service were all wonderful. We especially loved the Paloma mezcal drink! The lobster rolls were delicious and the tater tots were perfectly crispy with the best seasoning. We can't wait to come back to try more and are so excited to have a neighborhood seafood spot!

Susan M.

Yelp
I love this addition to Old Town!!! This will definitely be here for a long time. We started with yummy cocktails- they have a drink of the month too. The had a whitefish dip- I wanted more!! Ask for tortilla chips with that- even better than the crackers. I had a caesar salad with shrimp- the dressing was interesting and very different- and the shrimp had amazing flavor. Friends had tacos- fish taco like I have never seen- and gorgeous octopus!! This is a winner!!

Julie P.

Yelp
Great dinner with friends and family last weekend. We shared the lobster mac which had lots of large lobster pieces, tartare was super fresh and oysters were great. Everyone loved their entrees. Fun vibe, good music and great cocktails. This was our second time in and we will definitely be back!

Elena W.

Yelp
Such a great spot in old town. A Hidden gem that offers amazing lobster rolls, draft beers and has great music, playlist, vibe, tables and chairs. Brought our little guy here who is under six months and they were extremely accommodating. Really nice place to come hang out on a rainy day or a sunny day. Whatever it might be this is the spot to relax and have a yummy lunch or dinner. Such a great owner. Wonderful staff!

Eujin K.

Yelp
A great find! Ordered a lobster roll, mussels, oysters, drinks and churros. Reasonably priced and all fresh & delicious! Lobster roll was on a buttery crispy bun with a great bay mayo and the crispy shallots on top was a great add. Mussels were fantastic when dipped in the n'duja sausage broth and eaten with the grilled bread. Chill vibes, had gender inclusive restrooms, and very clean. Great service too! I would definitely come again and recommend to friends.

Adan M.

Yelp
Great service and excellent food. Broccoli salad . Friendly staff! Recommend hands down. Awesome vibe too.

Kirsten F.

Yelp
So yummy!!! Been twice now and loved both the Salmon BLT and the Salmon bowl. I'll have to try the shrimp or lobster next time. YUMM

Picasso G.

Yelp
I've been here twice and I really enjoy the atmosphere! The hostess is friendly and accommodating-i asked to be seated right by the bar so i could enjoy the view of the chef as well as the bar service. They enjoy what they do! I had the fish and chips and it was fresh-I especially loved the crispy coleslaw. I will definitely become a regular

Santina W.

Yelp
The restaurant I planned to go to was unexpectedly closed. I randomly came join RBI's place and was impressed. I really enjoyed the mussels and my drink. Was a great find. Staff was extremely polite and attentive to everyone

John P.

Yelp
The food portions are very small. I think they were tasty but nothing to write home about at all. The restaurant itself is very small which is fine but there is a bar space you can sit at that is crowded with all their drying dishes. The service was good but it seems like the manager of the place is the server. Just doesn't feel right. Additionally the menu is very very small and offers such little variety. I know it's a fish place but they offer only fish?

Elena A.

Yelp
Much needed oyster bar in Old Town! Tried both the East Coast and West Coast - equally delicious. Lobster Roll is filled with chunks of quality bites on fresh bread from the local French bakery. I ordered the side salad - again fresh and yummy with house dressing. My husband got the mussels. Great flavor (lots of garlic pieces) but he likes that. Cocktails & wines were great. Got the strawberry fields & rosé, he got the whiskey cocktail & Pinot noir. Nothing was overpriced - even the dessert was a deal. Huge piece of peanut butter chocolate pie! Great cute place with chill music. Nice people. We'll be back.

Yelp
Great new restaurant in Old Town features a solid menu featuring fish and seafood in a variety of presentations, from oysters on the half shell and fish / shrimp bowls to seared tuna, fish tacos, and fish & chips. The drinks menu offers IPAs on tap and many fun cocktails. We dined on a busy Saturday evening, and the wait staff was friendly and service was quick. The table shared delicious lobster Mac & Cheese and briny oysters as apps and warm, yummy churros for dessert. I had a light, perfectly seasoned fish & chips that came with French fries. My husband had the Satchmo, similar to a shrimp po' boy that came with Tator tots. He reports that it was also delicious. Portions are generous. Can't wait to return.

Abby S.

Yelp
Went for dinner last night and it was wonderful. Great addition to the neighborhood. Drinks were yummy and my fish and chips were great. Oysters are a must!!

Nick B.

Yelp
Very good experience on my visit this past Saturday. Good food and service. Also, the music was not loud which is the reason I stopped going to the previous restaurant at this location.

Cheryle D.

Yelp
Very disappointing. Ordered for delivery and while it arrived, promptly, there wasn't much there to eat. Fish tacos had barely anything in them. No avocado as discribed or salsa. Chopped salad for $12 was smaller than a side salad and messy in the container which was open. Total waste of money. $18 for fish tacos and $12 for salad. You do the math.
