Old York Cellars - Review - New York - The Infatuation

"New Jersey is dubbed The Garden State. And you know what grows in gardens? Wine grapes. Well, it depends how you define garden, but regardless, New Jersey makes some good wine. You’ll find some of the state’s best at Old York Cellars a little over an hour drive into farm and horse country in the Sourland Mountains. Sit on the big outdoor patio overlooking the vineyard, and pack your table with various wines and tapas any day between 12-6pm. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

The perfect Sunday retreat! An hour outside the City makes this winery the perfect Sunday drive!! Upon arrival, we were met with smiles and hello’s! Mike and Andrew are the perfect examples of what top tier customer service is. The Cherry wine infused slushies were sooo delicious and addictive LoL. I could literally re-visit and sip on those all day LoL. The semi-sweet wine flights were refreshing, while I’m not a peach girlie, both peach flights were yummy. Guess my palate is changing LoL. The food was fresh, lightly seasoned and good!! Great portions. Sadly, The churros failed to meet the sweet soft savory cinnamon treat. I was expecting the chocolate dipping sauce to mimic a sweet, thick, Hershey like deliciousness, instead it gave a watered down hot chocolate taste. It was kindly removed from the bill. Overall, between the atmosphere, friendly customer service, and comfortable cabanas, the winery is an 9 out of 10!! The only reason I gave it a 9, is because it didn’t offer French toast or pancake options for brunch. 🤭

Cannot speak highly enough of Old York Cellars! We made a last minute reservation for a tasting inside. When we got there it was a bit nicer out than we realized, and we wanted to sit in a cabana by the fire instead. Destiny was more than happy to accomodate us despite not having booked that in advance (worth noting we visited during the slow season). From the wine to the food to the service, our experience was exceptional. Destiny was our server and she took fabulous care of us from start to finish! She let us know about their membership club and very clearly explained the benefits of each level. Since the price point was already so great, the membership was an easy yes for us! Omar and the other gentleman (very tall) working also both checked in with us as they passed by ensuring we had everything we needed. Omar checked us out and helped get us set up with a gold membership- we ended up enjoying conversation with him until they closed! I don’t have a single piece of negative feedback. We’re looking forward to warmer weather with our newfound gem!

Gorgeous venue, relaxing ambience and great customer service. Booked a Saturday evening at the cabanas, not too busy surprisingly. Rare to find vineyards that also make food besides cheese boards, let alone Spanish food which is why we picked this place. Paella was interesting but the empandas were delicous. I wish I could remember the name of the young man who served us all evening, he was waiting in his little gazebo next to the last cabana if management reads these give that kid a bonus or something! He was running around handling all the cabanas and even when there were issues in the kitchen he went out of his way. Although this place is kid friendly, didn't find that many annoying children running around being loud. Last hour of the night they ran out of ice which on a humid afternoon sitting outside really really sucked not being able to order any mocktails to end our tasting only reason I give 4 stars. Otherwise as Latinos, we felt very comfortable and welcomed. Would definitely come back!

We planned a girls day for wine tasting and we got our own food, the staff was very accommodating and helpful. The vineyard is beautiful to visit! Will definitely plan another trip to Old York Cellars!

We live just 10 minutes away and were excited to try Old York Cellars and their special 5 course Valentines dinner and pairing. Unfortunately, we were quite disappointed. There is so much potential here and they just couldn’t pull it together. The atmosphere is nice and well appointed. We were greeted and seated immediately at our reservation time. The wines were good. Some suited to our taste more than others. The food was also good - with one huge exception being the filets which were both sorely overcooked. They never even asked us how we wanted them cooked and they were both well done. The crazy part is despite that they were still eatable - so imagine the potential had they been medium rare as they should have been. The pacing of the entire meal was off. We routinely got our next course before we had time to finish the previous one. Our 5 course meal was complete in just over an hour. Our server was working hard and trying and my best guess is that she was woefully undertrained. Overall, the place looks like it’s a lot of fun for summer tastings so maybe they should focus on that and skip the attempt at fine dining.

RINGOES: set amongst the gorgeous NJ countryside, Old York Cellars Winery has been a well-known winery in Hunterdon County for the last 15 years and elegantly serves fresh wine made from the grapes of their vineyard and chef inspired fare! We appreciate the invitation from Karin, the Marketing Director, to explore and admire the space, indulge in wine and food, and enjoy live entertainment at this peaceful place. Views of the vineyard and Sourland Mountains are stunning and I couldn't stop gazing at all the beauty. Leashed and friendly dogs are allowed in the outdoor spaces which includes a seasonal tented area, the cabanas along the building, and they can walk around the property. The vineyard tent provides great shade from the sun and weather conditions and is an expansive space with lots of tables and waiter service. Come hungry and thirsty because the menu has so much to offer including Spanish-inspired tapas and entrees. We cleaned off our plates like Brie cleans off her bowl showing how much we enjoyed the pan con tomate, potato leek soup, and patatas bravas. Options include ordering items individually or opt for a wine & food pairing. On Saturdays and Sundays between 11:30am-2:30pm, brunch is also served with some nice specials and offerings. The wine selection is extensive too and we highly recommend a wine tasting flight to sample six varieties and I really enjoyed the reds, with Darryl Mack Cellars Red being my favorite. In addition to tastings, you can order a glass, or a bottle to enjoy with your meal. Live music and other events round out a wonderful experience and makes for a nice day out! We chatted with the manager, Omar, who is very friendly and attentive and was intrigued by Brie's doggy dance to get attention. This place is popular and reservations are recommended as seating cannot be guaranteed for walk-ins. Easily book your visit on their website and check out all that Old York Cellars has to offer. Nearby is the dog friendly attraction, Black River & Western Railroad, with train rides through Ringoes and Flemington.

My wife and I are on the #eatjersey challenge to visit and have a meal in all 564 towns of NJ. We chose Old York Cellars for East Amwell (aka Ringoes), our 153rd town. This was our first stop at a winery on our tour of Jersey towns and it was a great experience! Despite a rainy day, we sat outdoors in the tent where there was live music and lots of other guests enjoying their afternoon. We started with a wine flight, and then added plenty of individual glasses after that! My wife and I love to travel to Spain and found it wonderful to discover we have a place serving authentic Iberian tapas by chef Jose Garcia right here in Jersey! We enjoyed a round of tapas including the charcuterie board, croquetas de jamon, Spanish tortilla (egg & potato omelet), and pan con tomate. The grilled salmon and rib-eye were perfect for our entrees. The Poached Pear and Tarte de Santiago made for a sweet ending to our time at Old York Cellars. Definitely recommend to others to visit!

Yelp
Gorgeous winery, literally pictures don't do it justice. Sitting on the Adirondack chairs looking at the beautiful vineyard with a nice breeze was blissful. I just wish they had better service. I thought maybe it was a fluke but based off other reviews it's not. The waiter was nice, knowledgeable but he was alone for 6 tables. It wasn't his fault but we waited 40 minutes for a glass of wine. It would've been more enjoyable if service was faster but I would go back. The wines were yummy, I love that they have food too. Empanadas and olives were yummy. I bet on a fall day it's nice they have cabanas with heaters.

Yelp
I had a good time here today. I made reservations and purchased a Groupon. It was affordable received 6 wines to try and a glass at the end. The winery is beautiful. We had to wait a little bit before our tasting and the gentleman provided us with a wine slushy which was tasty and refreshing. After the tasting we purchased a bottle of wine and walked through the winery. I enjoy the day and the winery. They do serve food however I didn't try anything. Maybe next time because I will be back.

Yelp
We visited Old Cellars Winery aboard the Hunterdon Wine Train Express which included a round trip excursion on the historic Black River & Western Railroad from Flemington, NJ to Old York Cellars Winery in Ringoes, NJ. At the vineyards, we were treated to a wine tasting, a delicious lunch with and panoramic vineyard views. Before lunch, the winery team guided us through a selection of award-winning wines expertly paired with a collection of artisan meats, cheeses, and hand-crafted chocolates from a local chocolatier. I had the grilled chicken sandwich for lunch. The bread was excellent. Our host and servers were friendly and courteous. However, at times it felt like we were abandoned after not seeing staff for extended periods of time. This issue was not a deal breaker but perhaps hopefully something that can be improved upon. The Hunterdon Wine Express is worth the visit.

Yelp
I went with a couple of friends to this lovely winery for their comedy night. We came two hours early for the 7 o'clock show and ordered a cabana that has a fire pit in the middle, which was super cozy and had scenic views of the Vineyard. We went in the beginning of November, so it was a little chilly so I'd either recommend bringing blankets and dress warmly for the fall weather because the fire pit only radiates a little bit of heat. The wine helped warm up from the inside out. I really enjoyed the Sauvignon Blanc with my salmon dish. It was so so delicious. I've never had salmon that was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside the way that they cooked it. Here. It was perfectly seasoned and the rice was seasoned as well. However, I had to add salt and pepper to the vegetables. I wish that they placed more food on the plate maybe more vegetables and a lot more rice, but I enjoyed my meal thoroughly. The staff was super accommodating and helpful and friendly. I would recommend ordering your food before the show starts because it gets really busy in the tent area. I also ordered their mulled wine which is a white wine version of the holiday drink. It was so so delicious. I highly recommend ordering it, However if you're not a white wine connoisseur, I would skip ordering it. The day we went it happened to be the 40th anniversary of the Vineyard so that was nice. We all got free cake. The community is super friendly and welcoming, which I appreciated. The comedians were good. They definitely cater their jokes to the crowd that they are speaking to, so you do hear references to being a parent and things like that. I'm so glad that I went here on my birthday weekend and highly recommend you to go as well.

Yelp
If this review were solely about the winery, this is easily four stars and close to five. I think it's a really good winery on multiple levels, and this to me is the best one in the Hunterdon area right now. My top-tier chums and I came here yesterday for the Hunterdon Wine Express, so a significant portion of our experience was devoted to a very specific event and a collaboration with the Black River & Western Railroad - it's just not as good as the winery itself and in my opinion not worth the money. We each paid a little over $100 for this event, which involved a ride on a ye olde train starting in Flemington and travelling to the Ringoes, where you then had to disembark onto shuttle buses that took you to Old York for a sit-down wine tasting/pairing and lunch, and then a return drive/drive back to Flemington. The biggest issue with the travel portion is that the schedule and actual managing of the guests is VERY casual, to the point where we ended up getting onto the shuttle buses at Ringoes and literally just sitting there for 15 minutes waiting for people browsing the tiny gift shop or using the restroom. At no point were we specifically told, "Meet here at this time"; it's very open-ended, so you end up losing significant chunks of time that YOU paid for that could have easily been spent at the winery drinking, exploring and/or relaxing. The train itself has a bathroom, and the winery certainly has plenty. My suggestion would be to completely bypass the bathroom at Ringoes, at least on the way there - if you need to go, go on the train or wait the five minutes to get to the winery. They should just get everyone off the train and immediately into the shuttles. The grounds of Old York are gorgeous, and I say that having not seen the sun at all during our visit. I came here a few years ago when it WAS sunny out, and it's a fantastic optic. You're free to roam amongst the grapes, or you can chill out in the Adirondack chairs looking over the Sourland Mountains. They also have these awesome cabanas that you can reserve for a more intimate experience, though some of them don't have the best views, depending on the cabana (if given the option, I'd try to get the ones by the edge closest to the vineyard). For this experience, they brought us into the Vineyard Tent, which was pretty spacious and had a cool Airstream bar. They had reserved tables for the Wine Express people, which we were directed to shortly upon disembarking from the shuttles. We weren't crazy about the tasting/pairing portion, and it's entirely possible that we're not the target audience for this - we've been to a solid number of wineries at this point, and I think we're just more into doing our own thing/making our own schedule. Lesson learned. But in my opinion, it's too regimented and lengthy, especially given that you're already provided with a list of the pairings and accompanying tasting notes. It felt a little redundant to have someone at the mic just reiterating/elaborating on the tasting notes, especially because they inexplicably had a second person at the mic (same guy who accompanied us on the train; very friendly fellow for what it's worth) who then...also just talked about the tasting notes. None of us understood why the second person was up there too, but it honestly didn't add anything to the experience and probably extended the tasting by an extra five or 10 minutes, which wasn't necessary. The wine and accompanying charcuterie were really good though. I loved the Albarino and the Cab Sauvignon - smooth and spicy, respectively. Would absolutely come back to sip those bad boys. The biggest issue to me though is that they have the pre-ordered lunch IMMEDIATELY after the tasting. Huge mistake. None of us came close to finishing our lunch because we'd...literally just had a bunch of charcuterie a few minutes earlier. They should have a big break in there between the tasting and the lunch to give the participants time to digest. It's a shame too because the food was really good. I got the paella which I thought was excellent. Maybe a little skimpy on the meats/shrimp but really hit the spot. I would have loved to have devoured the whole thing. The service as well was spotty and not managed well at all behind the counter. It wasn't clear who was assigned to our table and it seemed like staffers were just randomly chipping in, which led to miscommunication, overall disorganization and long wait times - as an example, it took us over 10 minutes to receive two glasses of wine. At a winery. Skip the train and just come here directly. The same food/wine options are available regardless, and you don't have to worry about when to get on and off a shuttle bus. Take your time and enjoy the positives of the winery, which unfortunately are negated somewhat from the train experience.

Yelp
We went recently to spend a nice Saturday afternoon trying their wines and having lunch. It was a misty, rainy day. We parked in a muddy lot and tried to find our way to the tasting room, which was closed. No other signs to guide us, so we tried this big ugly tent, located down a muddy path with a small stream in the middle of it. The tent was the tasting room for that day. It was sparsely decorated for the holidays, and someone was loudly playing a guitar and singing off key, in addition, it was cold and drafty. The crushed gravel floor added to the ambiance. Only one or two other tables of 4 was there. Our server was very nice and moved a table for us to get away from the music. We ordered a flight of 6 wines, of which only one, the Pinot Gris was drinkable. Lunch was decent and we ordered one bottle to drink there. The girls couldn't be more accommodating, but the venue was so uncomfortable that we decided to leave instead of lingering on for more wine. Restrooms are down a muddy path in another building that was a permanent structure and heated. We were told that this building was reserved for wine pairings (one table of customers) and not for wine tastings which was in the tent. I suggested to the manager about our experience in that cold tent, and he simply shrugged and said it was a working farm. Aren't most wineries working farms? Except for the view of the vineyard, the rest of the venue looks pretty bleak. We won't be back.

Yelp
Went here for the first time about a month ago. The atmosphere is really beautiful and welcoming. Really such a beautiful property, well maintained and well kept. We sat under the tent and tried some wines as well as a cheese tray. Amazing. The tray we got had three different choices of cheeses, almonds, and olives. We also got the paella del chef , which was AMAZING. Highly recommend going here. They also had live music playing outside under the tent, which was really nice and enjoyable

Yelp
The girls and I got together for a day at the winery. We reserved 2 cabanas for $16. When I arrived I parked nearby. I walked up, and the nice hostess showed us where the cabanas were. The winery was so nice and I liked the cabanas. It was raining and kept us dry! Noah was our server, and he was ok. Wish he was just a bit more attentive, but he was nice. Besides that we had a good time. I enjoyed the wine samples. I got the OYC samples. I also got the DMC red wine bottle. It was very tasty! My friends said the food was just ok. The bill wasn't bad at all! All in all I had a good experience.

Yelp
Amazing Winery! We came here on a Wednesday afternoon and sat in the cabana area. Ordered two wine tasting and left with 4 bottles. The waiter was extremely knowledgeable and made some really good recommendations. The ambience was amazing even though it was raining. We will return when the weather warms up!

Yelp
Old York Cellars is a staple. I love coming here during the summer/fall. The ambience is beautiful and I love meeting with friends for a relaxed day here. We did a wine tasting where we got to try many of drinks, and then moved over to the restaurant where we listened to some live music and ordered a cheeseboard with some drinks. The location is beautiful with ample seating. Love this place and highly recommend you check it out. I am looking forward to going back again!

Yelp
We went with our two dogs on a Friday night (6 pm) and reserved the Adirondack chairs with a table overlooking the vineyards. We could hear the music from where we sat, and it was perfect. The music was DJ, and he was playing "chill beachy" music, which was very nice and relaxing. We had the meatball parm sandwich and the chicken empanada salad with the 2023 chardonnay. The food was good, and the chardonnay was very good; we recommend it. It was light and crisp but with complexity at the same time. It was a perfect night.

Yelp
Came in for a tasting for two and had a great experience. Michael was super kind and knowledgeable, and the wine was delicious (reserve Chardonnay was our favorite).

Yelp
Drove in on a Friday around 1pm. It was a gorgeous Winter day unseasonably warm. The place has changed a bit since we were last here. The setting is very nice with tables and covered areas looking out over the fields. We proceeded to the smallish building on the right as you come down from the parking area and it seemed to take forever to place our order. We were then informed that our order had not been placed but that we would receive a text with a link and then we could place our order. A bit ridiculous. We were then taken to another building where were were told our tasting would take place. We sat inside as it was quite breezy outdoors. There was one other couple present. Our server was friendly a part timer from California. We ordered a Reserve Tasting. Two whites a rose and three reds. They were very good. Thank goodness our server said don't worry about the link - he just took our order. He was nice enough and we left a good tip. Unfortunately we were disappointed as we were served wine in Plastic cups. While the wines were generally very good they were overpriced by at least $10/bottle. My wife asked for their port which we recalled from our previous visit. It is now in a typical port bottle named South Paw port. It was ok . They changed the bottle from the old triangle. They have a proper food offering. I attach a pic of the menu. The Valentines Day Special looked very nice. We noted that Darryl Mack (DMC), makes his wine here. Pretty cool. This is a nice place to sit and have a glass or two and the food is probably worth a try but they need to get real with their prices and pay a bit more attention to details. We would return when in the area. Mark & Nancy.

Yelp
I have been coming here off and on for years. This visit, there was a definite decline in quality of service and food. You have to pay a non refundable $5 per person for a seat in the service area, but then the server comes by very infrequently. The first menu item I ordered, they had run out of. This was early in the afternoon. It took another 30 minutes to find a server to give a replacement order. When it came, the tomatoes, in the Garden State, were half-ripe and the chicken dry. Such a shame, as their wines are very tasty. They used to offer a Veterans' discount, but not longer. Therefore, this winery has come off my list.

Yelp
I had a great time at Old York Cellars, I went with 3 other friends and we rented a Cabana. We all decided on the chicken sandwich which was pretty good. We did the wine sampling and ended up purchasing the selections that we enjoyed. The vineyard is beautiful, however it was a quiet day, I assume due to the unpredictable weather with on and off rain showers. I will like to come back when it's no so quiet and something is going on. This is a great gather spot or even for date night, there was actually a baby shower going on next to us, they had 2 Cabanas, but could have used a 3rd. Cabanas were reasonably priced at $15/per person. All payments were made and managed online, so you have to create an account which could be a pain because the person who registers is the person making payment. I would say if you're looking for something to do, go and check out their website and make your reservations, hey with great friends you can have an awesome experience.

Yelp
Consider this... beautiful scenery, tasty food, and a fantastic selection of Jersey wines. This is a great place to hang out with friends or cozy up to your special someone. There's live music and a small plate menu with pairing suggestions. And the service is beyond compare! Don't sleep on this place. When you find it, you'll start planning celebrations and outings with friends just to share this special place with them.

Yelp
It's been awhile since we visited and I now remember what a great place this is. I ordered the "popular" (can't remember the exact name) tasting and I liked every wine I tasted. Served in plastic cups BUT they will give you a glass if you ask. We also ordered a glass of Malbec and a meatball and chicken sandwich - both delish! Friendly service, wonderful patrons, stellar views and great food and wine. And the pups loved it as well!

Linda S.

Yelp
As a member, I am entitled to a free birthday party & tasting for 6 (or you can pay for a few more) during my birthday month. I just had one of those parties last weekend, and it was a very enjoyable event, made more special by the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff members who arranged it.
google avatar

Audrey L.

Yelp
Definitely make reservations before you come. We arrived and it was a beautiful day, with the sun beaming and weather just right. We had reservations for the cabana for 8 people. You place your order through their online page and it automatically deducts the $15 per person credit you get back. My group was not a fan of the sweet wines (tasting) and stated that only one was sweet. I really liked the peach bellini, I'm not a wine drinker so this was perfect for me. It was a slushie drink that was very sweet. We ordered a cheese board but due to the pandemic everything was placed in separate containers. I did see another party bring their own cheese board which I didn't know you could do, but certainly will next time. Staff was friendly and very helpful. I had some issues with ordering (as people could not make up their minds) and staff was quick to make the adjustments for us.

Daniel C.

Yelp
The wine was good; the food was good; the service was among the worst I have experienced. Awful.

Yelp
Wine flights are meh. I had the empanadas they were great. Having to wait over 25 mins to get a glass and 2 empanadas was annoying after waiting 20 mins for a flight. What the heck?! Not only that buying wine later was a crap shoot, and only two bathrooms which one was locked... and the people that were supposed to handle it just locked the door and ignored it. Not impressed. Discombobulated service.
google avatar

Brendalynne F.

Yelp
This was one of the first places I went to for an outing since the pandemic started so this review is a bit late, but better late than never lol I went in mid-July on a Saturday for a 12 pm reservation. I loved the contactless menu where we were able to place our order online. The tables were spaced out enough to allow for social distancing too. We had an assortment of their wines - Blueberry, Peach, and Vidal Blanc. I really enjoyed the blueberry and peach wines! I'm a sucker for sweet wine. We also had the wine slushies which the whole table was a fan of! You have the option to bring your own food! My boyfriend's sister brought her charcuterie board along with a beautiful selection of meats and cheeses, so we enjoyed that with our Old York Cellars wine. Her friend also brought rose champagne cupcakes for dessert! Overall, the experience was very enjoyable and we took really cute pictures in the field (safely away from everyone else, of course) before leaving!

Yelp
Great winery. Loved their blueberry sparkling wine. Tapas and food appeared bigger on their website, so my group and I were slightly disappointed. Regardless of the disappointment, food was good. Kid friendly, dog friendly.

Yelp
Please don't go and save your money. it was overpriced for shitty food on top of that. The waiter comes and gets our order and never ever came back and we complain about not wanting anymore and the food was magically was ready. I don't even remember what the waiter look like that's how bad the impression was and when I told some lady she could care less about it. It was my first time going there as well and my dad's first time at a winery . I'm so disappointed. Horrible customer service!!!

Yelp
I came here with a group to celebrate a friend's bday. She researched the place in advance and informed our group of the cost, which was fair - it was $20. The day of our visit it was snowing but there was not an empty seat in the tasting room. 2 people in our group arrived first and had already been seated when we the remainder of us arrived. When my friend, whose bday it was sat down a woman came to the table and asked if the cookies that my friend brought in were for her - my friend responded "no" and the woman walked away. Minutes later, we would learn that this woman was our sommelier; when we realized this we asked the woman what her name was. Soon after, tasting flights were brought to the table and then the presentation and sampling began. We struggled to hear the sommelier over the other guests so she came to our table - she was cold and seemed like she was annoyed... The wines that we sampled were not to my liking - I prefer sweet wines mostly and that's what my tasting flight consisted of but only 1 of the 6 was able to whet my palate. There was a food menu available with light fare; we all ordered chicken samosas which were good but the process to order them was complex... My friend sent each of us a link that the winery had sent her; we each ordered from our phones and each input payment info for our Individual orders but my friend who received the link direct from the winery was seeing the accumulated cost of everyone's orders on her phone. We thought it was strange but because everyone had input payment info for our individual orders we didn't think much of it. We finished our samosas and our tasting flights and left to get food at a nearby restaurant... About 2 hours later, my friend whose bday it was (and had arranged the outing) was contacted by someone from the winery, who stated that our bill was not paid. We were flummoxed! Why in the world were each of us promoted to input payment info when it was not applied?! After a little back and forth and verification, we all learned that NO ONE was charged. My friend settled the bill. This was only my 2nd time doing a winery tour outside of a full day multi-stop tour in Napa; needless to say this experience did not compare. If the anyone at this winery is looking for constructive criticism I recommend that all staff be educated on basic customer service - staff doesn't need to be best friends with customers but customers at a minimum should be greeted by staff (especially by the assigned sommelier), who should also introduce themselves and the payment process should be explained (I am not sure if this was a miss on my friend's behalf or the winery's). Don't get me wrong - all other staff at the winery that we interacted with was pleasant and accommodating - I guess our sommelier was the sour grape of the bunch (lol)... Try at your own risk but I will not be returning.

Yelp
Unfortunately the day we visited it was raining. They have a tent outside with space heaters which helped. Make sure you have a reservation. You order the wine through their website. They also have snacks you can order. We had the trio dip which was good. I ordered the premium flight, it was a hit or miss with the wines. Overall an enjoyable experience.

Yelp
We celebrated our son's 21st birthday here. We came close to closing, because Google had the hours wrong. The staff was still so accommodating. We tasted all the wine they had available. Some were ok, most were gross. Almost medicinal! We stayed way past closing and the staff didn't make a fuss about it. The scenery is absolutely beautiful. It's such a relaxing place and also family friendly. We are definitely going back!

Yelp
We decided to come here because it was sooooo nice outside and I try to do's vineyard every vacation. The drive from where we were coming was about an hour. We were coming from Montclair,NJ. The area surrounding it was beautiful. Very rural with lots of farms. Entering and checking in was a breeze. The girl who serviced us was very attentive and helped us out with the ordering because it's an online system (so just know that). We decided to go with the wine and tapas pairing which we thought was a great deal. It is only available Monday - Thursday. We got to choose from many delicious courses. You get to choose two courses with either a dry or sweet wine to go with it (that they will pair for you or if you have a preference then more power to you). For our first courses we chose chicken empanadas and Spanish meatballs which was so full of flavor and delicious! For our second courses we each had a paella. My boyfriend had the vegetable paella and I had the paella del chef which had chicken, chorizo and shrimp. It was again full of flavor like I like my food. We also had the wine infused cupcakes, which must have had a very light wine because you barely taste it. In addition to all of that we also could not be at a winery and not have a cheese board which was nice. To be honest, it was too much so if you do go for the wine and tapas, that is all you need because you do get decent portions for $30/person. The service here was great! Everyone was friendly and catered to our needs. We did get two bottles of wine to go which were the raspberry and peach blush wines. The peach one (which was paired with the paella del chef) was absolutely delicious and it really does taste like peach! The blush wines are $15/bottle so the price is definitely doable! Honestly if you are looking for a great winery to go with friends or your significant other, this is the place! I would definitely come here again! I love the food and the prices for the food!

Yelp
I learned about the Jersey Fest at the Winery from Yelp and won two tickets to the festival which included food trucks, vendors, live music, as well as a screening at sunset of several short films hosted by the Garden State Film Festival. There was plenty of parking, particularly past the vineyard, which made for an enjoyable walk up to the festival itself. With entry to the fest, we were each given a wine glass and tickets to be used for tastings. I especially enjoyed the peach wine and the chardonnay. There were also raspberry and rosé wine slushies for purchase which helped to cool us down while under the hot sun. The music got livelier as the day went on, and there was plenty of seating and room to dance. We brought chairs and enjoyed our snacks from the food trucks while sitting in the vineyard. The event ran from 12:00 pm to 10:00 pm. I'm looking forward to returning to experience the tour and barrel tastings since we missed it during the festival and am interested in any other future events.

Yelp
Always a great time at this winery. It's a bit off the beaten path but fairly easy to get to. They have ample parking and so many beautiful spots to enjoy wine. It's seems like all of the employees are passionate about wine and happy to help you. It really is nice at any season, in the winter you can taste inside and spring, summer or fall, you can take advantage of their many events or relax with friends and some snacks on their patios. Now on to the wine. They have many different to pick from and all were great. Today I tried the Pinot Gris and really enjoyed. It was crisp, cool and perfect for a summer day. They have cute labels and you can even personalize your own bottle. I love the garden state/ tpk theme on the bottles.

Yelp
We had a great time at this winery. We attended their wine festival event, and learned that the current owner has invested quite a bit into improving and expanding this winery. The event was managed exceptionally well, starting with staff to guide you to the parking area. We tasted at 3 different wine tasting stations and found a mixed level of friendliness. It was a bit tepid at the first station, but we moved to other locations and found the other servers to be friendlier. We also had a chance to sample paella from their Chef Jose. There was a paella demo, and Chef Jose clearly took pride in his trade. (I plan to visit the restaurant). The vineyards were beautiful, and it was a lovely way to spend an afternoon. After tasting numerous wines...my favorite was the gold medal chardonnay.

Yelp
The vineyard grounds were really pretty and luckily we had beautiful weather. We came for the tapas and wine tasting. The gazpacho in our pairing was so delicious, I wanted to take a gallon home. The other tapas: tortilla espanola, chorizo, albondigas (meatball), serano ham and monchego cheese, and bacon wrapped dates were also really tasty. The wines were good. Besides the wines in the tasting, we also had the blueberry sparkling wine which is sooooo good. We each bought 2 bottles home.

Yelp
I had tried this winery years ago at Bridgewater commons mall. So I was happy to actually make it out to the vineyard. I chose the truffle and wine pairing. I really enjoyed it. Although some of the varietals weren't as I expected (for example, the Riesling tasted different from traditional German or Washington State Riesling), nothing was bad. I am a wine snob, so that says a lot . The truffles went well with the wines. I really liked the Dark Chocolate Marizpan truffle. Very yummy. The only wine I didn't like was the blueberry wine, but that is because I dislike fruit wines. We also had the premium tasting, which had some overlap, but they added their port. Which I liked much better as dessert wine. I would definitely go back and order a bottle and eat some of the food.

Yelp
This review is based on a brief visit for a bridal shower experience - I wasn't able to enjoy the vineyards or any wine tour. This was based on my experience of the event space as used during a Winter month. The indoor space they offer holds about ~40 people max. The space offers a nice patio overlooking the vineyard and some out furniture to lounge -- lovely space probably during the warming months. The space is somewhat bare so you really have the ability to get creative and make fun experience. There is a bar at the end of the room, one nicely kept restroom and a lovely mantle for taking some pics. The directions to get here were a little tricky -- it involved, in my opinion, a rather dangerous left turn! But this space has ample parking and recessed into the back it does offer a nice tranquil space. I would certainly love to revisit during wine season to see what more they have to offer.

Yelp
We love this winery. Who would have thought that New Jersey has such great wines? The venue is beautiful and the staff very welcoming. You can walk through the vines and well behaved pups are welcomed. The recently added a food menu. I haven't tried much from it but the charcuterie platter was a good addition to the wine and good company.

Yelp
They changed their reservation policy and now they charge you $100 just for a cabanna not including what you consume. They used to credit the reservation fee to your tab. When I asked, they said the $100 dollars where to cover the propane of the cabanna.

Yelp
Attended the Jersey Fest event to sample some wines and enjoy a few treats from the food trucks scheduled to be at the event. It was a nice event and I decided to become a member. There was seating for attendees and separate seating for members. A huge selling point for me was the wine slushees, but the machine wouldn't keep them freezing for a long time. It was a struggle to get the slushy but eventually it worked out. There service at the event was great. I didn't appreciate people having their dogs at the event and the drive through the vineyard was a little tight. Food truck vendors were supposed to give 10% off to members but they weren't. Overall it was a nice event, especially once the sun started to set. The membership has its perks, excited to be a member. The wines were delicious. Not disappointed at all!

Yelp
Ok everyone this is a tough one for me. I want to give a good review for this winery but I'm torn. It's a hot Saturday afternoon went on Yelp and found the old York cellars about 30 min away. Website said make a reservation for a table which cost $5 a person and you had to pay on an app called tock. We arrived 15 min early and was greeted by a very nice hostess. We sat at a metal table with metal chairs under a tent over seeing the vineyard. After a while these chairs become uncomfortable. Is it a gorgeous view, no but it still is a very pretty view with lots of trees so the fall would be excellent. This winery has a chef onboard and you can either bring your own food or order. On the menu we chose (2) $49 dinner specials which included an appetizer, entree and desert. Each course had a three ounce wine sample that was picked by our waitress Logan. Upon seating she came over to the table explained their concept and was very nice and knowledgeable. We ordered our food and a young man delivered our appetizers as Logan delivered the wine. Both were very good. This same delivery system continued throughout the meal. Prior to the entree, you could tell a good storm was approaching which was also on the radar with my weather app. Here is where it all started. There was no preparation and this violent squall hit. It starting pouring and the very young staff did not no how to close the tent walls, rain was getting everywhere and the employees were getting soaked. During same our entrees came out which were a little cool most likely waiting for the soaked staff to become available. Once everything was under control. The storm passed and no one reopened the tents making it a greenhouse temperature. Our three meals were complete and I wanted an after dinner drink. I had to go over to the main hall to find my waitress hanging out talking to coworkers. Even though Logan was nice, she never checked on us during the entire experience, just only to deliver the one taste per course. We had to ask the boys several times for plastic cutlery and napkins and water refills. I then had to find her again to get the bill. While waiting we decided to step outside the tent for fresh air. After about 10 minutes our waitress was no where to be found. I then saw a couple paying their bill online. So I went on app to see my bill which was never explained to me. In The bill is a service fee to use the app but I was paying cash. I had to go back inside find a different waiter who took care of me. He did not know how to give change so I had to tell him. Listen I know this review is negative, but the idea the owner has here is excellent. A taste, food and scenery. The food presentation was excellent the taste was very good, the chef truly knows what he is doing. To the owner, great idea beautiful place. I just feel your servers and delivery personnel need more training and because you are 90% outdoors, there should be training on how to identify and prepare for in-climate weather. I will definitely return in the fall to see the leaves and have another meal. I really think this can be a 5star business.

Yelp
My husband and I came to celebrate our anniversary. We did the tasting and a cabana afterwards. It was very relaxing with live music. You can order on your phone and the servers come by occasionally so you can just enjoy your time without interruption. The food was okay - recommend the bacon wrapped dates and empanadas.

Yelp
Old York Cellars was a beautiful winery with plenty of seating and amazing views. Our group went on a Saturday afternoon and sat right by the live music. It was such a beautiful day. We all ordered the wine tasting - it came with 6 wines each and a mix of reds and whites. We also ordered the chocolate pairing, chicken and beef empanadas, cheese board - all were delicious. Afterwards, we ordered wines by the glass. In order to get in, we had to reserve a table in advance and make a $100+ deposit. They had an app with a running tab when we arrived at our seats and it was very confusing with the deposit refund and discounts. They had a waiter that assisted us throughout, which was necessary and much appreciated. Our only complaint was that it was very hard to keep track of our spending. Overall, this was the perfect weekend activity for groups! The service, experience and ambiance was fantastic. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Nice little winery to come hang out either for small or larger groups (they have a nice outdoor area with a fire pit). Good variety of food as well as all types of wine. I tried the sampler as well as the what exit red blend. Wine was good, not mind blowing, but where they really stand out is the service. Extremely friendly and helpful staff who is constantly checking on your and going above and beyond to make sure you are having a good time.

Yelp
6/20/2020 update: Customer service fail. This is long but I feel it needs to be laid out bc the (lack of) communication from this winery is staggering. Understanding that the whole Covid reservation system is new, management needs to get their act together. We began the process of reserving a table for Saturday 6/20 on Wednesday 6/17. The husband tried to use the online reservation system but could only find tastings for $15/person. Since we have been to Old York before all we wanted was a glass or bottle or 2 to share with friends. So he called and spoke to someone who told him to choose A La Carte on the website, not a tasting. He tried but couldn't find it. So he called back, spoke to another woman who told him the same thing. He asked her to stay on the phone with him as he tried to find the A La Carte option. He could not, so she put him on hold and gave him to a female manager. The female manager went through the process with him and also could not find A La Carte so she verified my husbands contact info, promised to manually put him in the reservation system and email a confirmation. It did not happen. We waited for the email or call back and nothing, so on that Saturday I called and left a VM that morning. I called back again after an hour or two and got someone who said our reservation was not noted anywhere. So then I tried the online system again, still no A La Carte option but I was told to select the weekend experience and pay the $20 per person and we'd get $15 credit per person and that the tasting is complementary (or really $5 per person). The website echoed this, as when I was forced to pick tasting options, they were free (no extra cost). It was clear on the website that you pay $20/person and you get $15/person credit to spend on anything you want. See picture of reservation screen. It would then make sense the extra $5 you're spending is the "free" tasting you receive because it's literally one tiny sip per cup. We were able to make the reservation online for around the time we wanted. We had a fun time at the winery and thought everything was fine. However, when Tyler brought the bill there was no $15 credit per person toward all the glasses and bottles of wine we purchased, both there and to go. We showed him screenshots of the website, our reservation confirmation and he looked deflated. He told us every customer has been having this same issue. He was absolutely spent trying to re-explain that no, there is no credit. What really occured is that the tasting is forced on you and that's the $15 "credit" so in the end nothing is deducted from the bill. Tyler knew we were not thrilled with this so he went to the manager. He was gone for a few minutes and returned. The coward manager who couldn't come over himself or herself, sent poor Tyler back to explain we would receive a $75 credit rather than the $90 we were supposed to receive as per our reservation (6 people at $15 credit apiece). We left as deflated as Tyler, we hope management can get their act together and won't return or recommend Old York until they do. They pulled a bait and switch and completely misrepresented what we were purchasing on their website. Not cool. Oh and we never got the souvenir glasses which I don't even care about but it's about the false advertising this place does. Here's the kicker- I received a call from Old York a few days later (Monday), returning my voicemail from Saturday morning. I explained about the credit and right away she said, yes you were supposed to get a $15 credit per person!! I couldn't believe it! I explained we did not and she said a manager will call me back to sort it out. I haven't heard back yet. Let's see if I will. Disappointing!

Yelp
Came with a reservation for Saturday at 1:30pm. Due to the pandemic you do need a reservation to come- so book online! I love the contactless menu situation where you can order through your phone and pay the tab at the end! For those without smartphones they do have a paper menu. All the tables were very spaced out and the new reserve wine tasting was my favorite! The reserve Chardonnay was amazing! Food menu was a little pricey for some items (such as $20 "cheese board") but my veggie sandwich ($12) was great and delicious! Bathrooms were kept very clean and I felt very safe the whole time. Would definitely come back again!

Yelp
Exceedingly underwhelmed. We've been to Old York many times over the years, and it used to be a fun and relaxing environment. I'm not sure what they're trying to do there, or what crowd they're trying to cater to, but it doesn't work. For starters, there's a cover charge. I can understand this for cabanas, but to sit at a metal picnic table like you would at any other establishment...no. AND they charged $5 a head for each of our toddlers! The service is terrible. Our bottle of wine took a solid 20 minutes to come out, and my husband had to flag down the waiter to ask where it was. I asked for a bucket of ice, as we had a bottle of white on a hot day, and he never returned with it for the duration of our stay. The food portions were tiny and overpriced. We had an app trio that cost $15. It consisted of 3 condiment containers filled with dips, maybe 5 tiny slices of bread, and another condiment container with some crunchy bread stick things in it. The wine was not good. And there's a bouncer, which is just weird. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the views are beautiful. Everything else has really gone downhill - we will not be back. There are better wineries in the area where we would prefer to spend our money.

Yelp
Old York Cellars is probably better known to most as the store in Bridgewater Mall where you can shop and drink. Their nearby vineyards are beautiful. They have a small tasting room and outdoor seating area. When I arrived with a friend on a Sunday afternoon they also had live music in the building across from the tasting room. $15 (plus tax) gets you 6 tasting or 1 glass of wine and a souvenir cup. After you pay you're given a wristband and 6 tickets. Head over to the bar and choose your wines. My friend and I decided to skip the tasting here and just get a glass of wine. I chose their peach wine which had a nice hint of peach. My friend chose one of their dry red wines. The gentleman helping us was nice but didn't really seem too into talking with us. Glad we decided on just a glass. Parking is pretty limited here and if you're going on a rainy day they parking area gets ridiculously muddy. Not a bad stop for nicer weather.
