The best Ruben I've had in YEARS. It smelled so great while the guy in the deli grilled my sandwich. 😁 I told it smelled so good I was about to wet my pants. 😁 GREAT deli selection of my favorite brand.

Man!! One of the best stores in old city . So clean ! So neat. Everything is well maintained . Shelves are well organized. Great job guys. I don’t know why people are complaining about em having pricy stuff, come on people old city is expensive ,have you ever gone to the 7-eleven down the corner? they are even more expensive . It’s a tourist spot and it’s obvious that prices are gonna be high. All that apart their sandwiches are the best . I have been eating since years now , I never fell sick or had any issue. The sandwiches are the most affordable sandwiches in the entire area I feel . 6$ for a sandwich! The pot pie soup is also amazing , I wait every winter for it. Anyways spread love if you can ! Stop spreading false stuff for no reason! -Pranav

Second Street Grocery at Second and Market in Old City, Philadelphia, is an absolute gem! I love how clean and well-organized the store is—it’s always a pleasure to shop there. Their lunch meat selection is fantastic, but the Santa Fe turkey is my personal favorite—so flavorful and fresh! If you haven’t had the chance to stop by yet, you’re missing out. Highly recommend giving them a try!

Google
Great place to get nearly everything you need in Old City at a great price! Very nice employees - gentleman at the deli was kind enough to (and wanted us to) let us order even though he had all but closed the deli (great sandwiches too) 10/10 would recommend!

Google
The best fresh hoagies and sandwiches down to everything that’s placed on the bread ,everytime you eat them wish I lived closer so I could have one atleast twice a week lol

Google
Got a delicious salami on rye for less than $6.00 here. Friendly staff. Absolutely coming back here

Google
Awesome little deli in old city! Customers service is always impeccable and their hoagies are delicious! Also they are the best price in the neighborhood!!

Just discovered this deli last week and have been back just about every day since - Excellent breakfast and lunch, and overall great selection of items. The owner Edward is also the man.

Josh V.

Yelp
I love this place. Edward and the nice woman who works the cash register are very friendly, which I imagine is difficult given the amount of obnoxious stuff they have to deal with on a daily basis there. Also, they always have Chex mix in stock, which is a critical element to my lifestyle.

Yelp
i am a loyal and faithfull customer that enjoys eating freshly made hoagies, wraps and sandwiches. not only is the food fresh, its also not expensive. it's refreshing to know i can get great food at a reasonable price in olde city. the customer service is top notch also. wishing you many more years of successful business. tia c. wise

Yelp
I follow a foodie and was sent here by his video. Italian hoagie was ordered. I guess they give you more meat when you have a foodie page. Bread and meat were fresh. But it was as bat minimum amount of meat on sandwich. I would have paid extra for a packed hoagie. Definitely not like what I saw online. Disappointed.

Yelp
I wish I could tell you about the sandwiches, or the selection of snacks, but I don't know anything about that. What I know is that I promised to provide ice for a party nearby (a necessity for any party, and something that will get you in just about anywhere), and I was late and frantic. Olde City may not pick up the phone...ever, but they sell ice for $2.50/bag, they have plenty of it, they are conveniently located, and the guy at the counter seemed nice enough as I ran in, grabbed ice, and threw money at him. Thanks to them, I have not been disowned by my family.

Yelp
The hoagies are surprisingly good at Old City Food Market. They are actually better than the more well known hoagie shops in Old City. It's a hidden gem when it comes to hoagies, made with good Dietz & Watson meats. But... It's called Old City FOOD MARKET. As a market it leaves a lot to be desired. It's cash only, which is a disgrace in 2019. The selection is limited, most notably when it comes to bread. Doesn't everyone need to buy bread? The prices are too high, especially considering cheaper options have opened up nearby in recent years like CVS, which does sell food as well. I've never seen anything at the market go on sale, except for hoagie rolls that are about to go stale. They take advantage of the sad fact that there is no grocery store in Old City. So I'm forced to stop by occasionally in a pinch since I live close by. But the only time I'm actually happy to be there is when I'm ordering a hoagie.

Fredricka G.

Yelp
Sketchy cash-only grocery store that is overpriced and poorly stocked. I'm not interested in helping a business cheat on its taxes or launder money, so I skip this place. There are other options within walking distance that are cheaper and more honest.

Yelp
We need more of these non-commercialized homestyle local joints!! This is the nicest and largest midsized mart that I have been to since moving from new york city. I no longer need to double check the expiration date..def. has a sense of family owned kinda feel. It is almost as large as a conventional grocery store. The workers are chill and are always on the move keeping everything perfectly stocked. The lower stars on these reviews seem to be focused on the pricing but they forgot to mention this ain't a cheap 7-11. You get actual organic items to gourmet chocolates to hand made subs. It's the great local hometown market. You get higher end products you see in whole foods or farmers markets but Half the price!! The produce section is huge, they have all of the necessities: coffee, olive oil, vinegar, honey, granola, local pasta, in addition to the other standard items. I also saw them as a 3rd eunner up in the "Best Deli Hoggies in philly". Mad impressive.

Yelp
What the Olde City Market is: conveniently located near my apartment. What the Olde City Market is not: inexpensive. ($2 more on average than larger stores) What the Olde City Market has: a larger than expected selection What the Olde City Market doesn't have: cigars (several signs make this clear) What the Olde City Market accepts: Cash What the Olde City Market does not accept: Credit Cards, Food Stamps, Checks or Money Orders. If you are in the area and need to pick up anything from an eye glass repair kit to a pound and a half of ham, stop in the Olde City Market. If your list is longer than 5 items long, head to Super Fresh. Your wallet with thank you.

Yelp
Olde City Food Market is one of my favorite one-stop "corner shops" in the city as a whole. They have a good selection of snacks as well as drinks and sandwiches. They sell the Meiji Hello Panda cookies, which I'm addicted to (although the ones at Olde City Food Market are rather pricey compared to those found at H-Mart or Chinatown). The folks who run the store are really nice, so it's an enjoyable experience overall. The store is CASH ONLY, so always keep that in mind!

Lee A.

Yelp
It's an old fashioned family owned corner grocery like my dad owned 50 years ago. People who complain about the prices are silly. If you're doing a big grocery shopping, then don't shop there. But if you want a great hoagie, chips and a soda, very competitive. And I don't mind paying more for a couple items that I'm out of if it's right around the corner. As for the kumbaya stuff, who cares?

Joshua R.

Yelp
The awesome - Amazing selection of beverages, candy, protein bars, and groceries in general compared to other corner store markets in old city - Really late hours (Open til 1:30 am on weekends). The not so awesome - The prices aren't good, but not bad either. - They only take cash! Yes, there is an ATM in the store, but seriously, only cash.

Cindy L.

Yelp
Got ourselves an Italian and turkey hoagie. Delicious! I think my favorite was the Italian, it was delicious. Lots of good vegetables and a good portion of meat. They all went well with some pretzel chips and popcorn. :)

Truth B Told R.

Yelp
I keep trying to utilize this market and like it. While it's overpriced it does have a lot of essential items and it's a place I do try to stop in when I need one or two items. Tonight I came in to get some lunchmeat to pack my lunch. I ordered the lunchmeat and then shopped around the market for a bit. When I I returned to the deli to check on the status of my lunchmeat I found the deli guy taking his gloves off and checking his phone when he has not even completed my order. I canceled my order because I really didn't want my lunch meat packaged with the hands that had just checked his phone. I would think that as the only customer in this store I would be a priority. I've had a similar experience before where my order took a very long time. It was the same guy so now I know the reason my order took so long was because he was busy checking his phone throughout my order. I can't imagine what was so important that he had to stop mid order to take a look at his phone.

Alex D.

Yelp
Cash only and the price of eggs seemed to be twice that of a normal grocery store. I wouldn't recommend visiting.

Cherie C.

Yelp
Convenient. Cheap sandwiches in the deli. Otherwise, just a run of the mill convenience store.

Bob C.

Yelp
I work down the block - its a great stop for a sandwich. Quick friendly service, and its cheap (cash only). I wish the soups would change, but other than that its a solid bet.

Yelp
I was so grateful for Olde City Food Market during our four day stay in Philly. My 13 year old daughter and I were staying around the corner at the hostel, so we had a kitchen at our disposal and were desperate for a "home cooked" meal. We arrived on Day 14 of our road trip...and, we were so sick of fast food crap that I didn't even mind that this place was a tad pricey. I have never been so grateful to find hummus and fresh produce. I was really surprised at the great selection they had for such a small store. CASH ONLY. OK...this was a pain, but they do have an ATM there that will happily gouge you a hefty fee.

Jessica W.

Yelp
This is the only bodega-esque store in old city that isn't like some weird old dudes crpyt with dust on the shelves. They have your basic mart stuff, some fruit & veggies, groceries etc. This place is clean, fast, and efficient. What more do ya need? I don't find the employees to be unfriendly. I prefer my market interactions to be at a distance cause what if I need to buy something weird one day? A bit more expensive than it should be, but it's olde city.

James H.

Yelp
The specials are good. It has everything you might need, I guess, as far as a deli goes. Won't be going back, though, because they put mayo on the Italian hoagies by default, which is about the dumbest thing I've ever heard, and even when they tell you they didn't, they apparently probably did.

Joseph S.

Yelp
I took a chance and stopped in for a hoagie. Couldn't decide, so I opted for an Italian. There are other interesting options, so I'll try something different next time. There are big signs for "cash only", so if I didn't have the cash I wouldn't have gone in. The order taker prompted me for my add-on's, making the process go more smoothly. My order was completed quickly. There are some interesting snack items opposite the counter. The person who rang me up was polite.

Jeannie S.

Yelp
Overall, great place to pick up that one missing item you need for dinner or definitely for a quick hoagie. Agreed with other comments earlier that the hoagies here are pretty damn good for being a side shop. Depending on what you get- prices can be extremely high or pretty decent for convienence eg Mission tortillas 8 pack 2.99 = good OR 1 small instant Velveeta cup $1.69 (when it can be bought for $.89 at the supermarket)

Marissa B.

Yelp
I was in here once or twice just to buy snacks over the last couple years while nearby. I was going to buy an actual meal (wrap or even just a Lunchable). but, it's was mad expensive. Selection is pretty decent and store is clean. Never noticed anything odd about the staff. Wouldn't mind stopping in once more, but, only for certain items.

Shee G.

Yelp
I dont know who's making these reviews. Got a corned beef special and it tasted like trash. The cole slaw was either bad or just terrible tasting. The younger guys that work in there Do Not know how to make sandwiches. At one time there was a mexican guy that worked the sandwich counter and he made good sandwiches. I dont know who these younger guys are.

Ryan R.

Yelp
This is my favorite corner store! First off, it is the cleanest and nice corner store I've seen in the city. Second, they make a mean hoagy (hot roast beef is as good as a cheese steak and it's 3 dollars less!). Third, they have a lot of nice items considering the size of the store. Some of the prices a bit higher then expected, but that could be because a lot of the items that are for sale are higher end food items. You can get organic and vegetarian stuff here no problem. They also have a lot of unique and varied drinks, along with all the favorites. Last but not least there's a beautiful girl who works the register in the morning who is always smiling and being very polite. Oh and it seems like they are open all the time, even late on weekends! Check this place out.

Patrick C.

Yelp
There are two things about Olde City Food Market that bother me. First, the prices are even higher than you'd expect. I feel like everything here costs a dollar more than it should, and I'm pretty sure my expectations have been appropriately inflated after living in the area for a while. Second, the people who work here are pretty unfriendly. I never get a smile, nod, or even eye contact as I walk through the store. It's always a sort of shifting stare, as if I'm stumbling in on a Friday night to inquire about Philly Blunts, rather than buying onion powder and an aluminum baking tray on a Sunday afternoon. Oh well. It's close and, amazingly, stocks onion powder and aluminum baking trays. I'll keep coming here, but I won't like it.

Alan B.

Yelp
Poor service, overpriced and only takes cash. IRS gonna investigate? They can get an ATM but not a card reader? Come on, it's the 21st century..

Dana B.

Yelp
This is not your average 7-11 or Wawa but it does the trick if you need to grab a quick bite or drink and don't want to shell out the cash to eat at a nearby restaurant. I'll give them credit for being well-organized and having a half-decent selection, but it's not like I would go here to do my grocery shopping.

Aisha L.

Yelp
Pricey, some organic options. Pretty much a monopoly on Olde City Grocery stores. I go when I am desperate.

Caitlin V.

Yelp
Price aside (this place's biggest down fall is the amount of bucks you'll drop on a few things), this place is pretty alright. They have a fantastic amount of variety in their products, and there are lots of healthy options too for the greener people out there. they sell a lot of products you could find in a whole foods alongside old standbys. They make great hoagies, but sometimes it's never quite obvious if someone is behind the deli counter to do that for you.

Daniel S.

Yelp
I stopped inside of this store just to pick up a few things because I had guests coming over. The employees are very dry and rude-like, they didn't smile, say hello, or even act polite in any manner. Instead they just stare and give a dirty look. As I strolled down the isles I also noticed some expired and dusty products which is never good.

Barbara J.

Yelp
Ordered a sandwich here and it was great. Paid less than five dollars for a tasty tunafish sandwich. Very decent selection of toppings. Wanted to buy some almond milk but too pricey so I couldn't do it.

J K.

Yelp
Don't buy groceries here. ... so expensive! Go to the 711 down the street. We paid $6.00 for a box of cereal and it was $3.50 at 711.

Leanne W.

Yelp
I went to this store a lot whilst staying at Philadelphia, as it was in close range of the hostel. Staff are very friendly and the freshly made sandwiches are delicious. It doesn't have a great variety of meat if you wanted to make a meal at your hostel like we wanted to. But a hoagie is under $5 and saves the washing up :) Please note!!!! It is cash sales only but the store does have an ATM and there is a bank near by

Jay D.

Yelp
IF i'm in old city (not OLDE city) and need a vitamin water or whatever, i'll come here. otherwise it's just another expensive bodega to me.

Ca C.

Yelp
They only take cash so I used their ATM. Got my card cloned (it was used within the hour). Be careful.

Michael G.

Yelp
I live a half a block from the market. Today, I paid $3.49 for a one QUART of Half N Half !! Talk about gouging the public with over inflated pricing !! I avoid this place unless absolutely necessary. Every item is priced at least a buck over other convenience stores.... I'll pray for a WaWa in the neighborhood !!
