Best New Cocktail and Wine Bars in the East Bay | Eater SF

"Olfactory Brewing has expanded to this side of the bridge with a new taproom in the heart of Berkeley. Expect a mix of Olfactory’s brews, including pale ales, lagers, and some of the brewery’s mixed-fermentation brews, such as a raspberry sour saison that’s on the summer menu. There’s a modest food menu available that’ll come through in a pinch, with items such as the “Chicago Dawg,” an all-beef Vienna frank with no ketchup in sight, plus a roast beef dip and an Italian hoagie." - Dianne de Guzman

Google
BEST SANDWICHES IN BERKELEY BY FAR! Fresh, delicious, and generous portions. Finally, Berkeley at last has a place worth going for tasty pastrami and sandwiches made with care. Look at the sandwiches, they speak for themselves. The $8 cold hoagies are filling, made fresh daily, and 100x better than the junk other places in Berkeley try to charge $17 for. Try Delirama jr. and Olfactory, you won't be disappointed

Google
I love this place it’s kind of a hole in the wall type spot. But they have great beer options and the best pastrami sandwich I’ve ever had. It’s two different businesses merged together. Delirama does the food olfactory does the beer. Delirama does pastrami sandwhiches and they have a hot option for $18 which is the best pastrami I’ve ever had and a cold fridge sandwhich for $8 which I usually get. I come here 3 times a week I could not recommend this place enough especially if you like beer and pastrami. Photo of the $8 fridge hoagie.

Google
Dutch crunch with no crunch is sad. I was so excited for the $8 hoagie only to hoodwinked by the minimal amount of meat. I wonder if it’s weighed out, and if so how little it is. Maybe slice it thinner so it looks like more? Maybe the beer is good, don’t go for the hoagies.

Google
Great beer from the brewery in SF, simple menu focused on authentic Chicago style including traditional breads and garnishes, vegetarian option for the Chicago dog. Staff was friendly and attentive!

Google
Excellent Ol Factory IPA + a Delirama pastrami sandwich on rye; flavor of meat, bread toasted perfectly, wonderful portion. Also, chips are super delicious. Highly recommend! Great seating, music, atmosphere.

Google
Love Olfactory Brewing in San Francisco but decided I HAD to drag my friend out their new Berkeley outpost for their Chicago grub since my friend is from Chicago and misses Italian beef so much that he orders Portillo's on the regular. Never mind that he doesn't even drink, but...food for him and more beer for me! Win-win, I'll say ;) TLDR: the food and beer were both amazing - we'll be coming back for sure.

Google
Dropped in for a delicious west coast Pilsner. Super friendly staff, right next to BART, and comfy environment. Great addition to the downtown Berkeley beer scene!

Google
The sandwiches are the best in town. The balance between the acidity and fattiness is perfect. The bread is perfectly toasted. The pastrami is on point. The coleslaw makes me want to eat more vegetables. 10/10. Hella good beer and food combo. Highly recommend

Yelp
I read about the extraordinary pastrami in the local news and finally got to try it Extraordinary indeed. As an ex NY deli maven, I know A perfect and classic sandwich The pre made hoagies are good too, and maybe the best bargain in Berkeley

Yelp
Olfactory Brewing is a quiet gem in Berkeley. Located in a less bustling part of town, it offers a tranquil atmosphere for beer enthusiasts. The venue features a micro deli called Delirama, operated by Pyro Pastrami Company, adding a delicious deli option to complement their drinks. The beers are exceptional, and the friendly staff stand out for their hospitality and knowledge, even recommending other local spots for beer lovers to explore. The space is clean and inviting, with plenty of tables and a cool bar area that enhances the overall vibe. It's both a taproom and a place where they brew their own beers, showcasing their dedication to quality. I tried the Fuzzy Warbles for $9 (plus tax), and it was good. The combination of great beer, good food, and a welcoming environment makes Olfactory Brewing a fantastic spot to enjoy a quiet drink in Berkeley.

Yelp
Olfactory Brewing opened in Pacific Standard's space. Basically same with 4 flatscreens. Paired with Delirama-great beer with great food. Barista ready to pour at any time. Cook READY to prep Sammies... Offerings: seasonal brews made with Admiral Maltings Pilsner malts & hops. Happy Hour 12~5, M~F. Eats of cold hoagies, hot dips & hot pastrami Sammie's. Sips: Nectarian Infinity (6.6% abv.) 16 ounce. West Coast I.P.A. -very hoppy with Admiral Maltings Pilsner malts, Nectarian, Nelson & Mosaic hops. -smooth brew makes beer tastes more potent than it is. Rare to find beer quality so unique 5 stars!

Yelp
Just posting to add photos. I haven't been back yet, although I plan to, either before or after a concert at The Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse or a play at Berkeley Repertory Theater, which may happen in January.

Yelp
We are here for the crispy crushers, hoppy jammers & all the malt driven explorations! Olfactory Brewing makes amazing beers across the board, and their partnership w/ Delirama is perfection. Stop by for delicious beer and stick around for the incredible pastrami sandwiches. The space is cozy, lovely decor + super comfortable bar stools. The Olfactory team is knowledgeable and welcoming. I can't wait to be back!

Yelp
Love Olfactory Brewing in San Francisco because their beers are A+ but decided I HAD to drag my friend out their new Berkeley outpost for their Chicago grub since my friend is from Chicago and misses Italian beef so much that he orders Portillo's on the regular. Dedicated man. Never mind that he doesn't even drink, but...food for him and more beer for me! Win-win, I'll say ;) SO DID IT LIVE UP TO THE HYPE??? Short answer: YES!!! the food and beer were both amazing - the beer was a foregone conclusion but to top it off, they had a smidge left of this experimental European-style beer that I thankfully was able to try and that was a special treat. The Italian beef was juicy and had just the right amount of sog without losing it's structural integrity. Wish they had the Chicago goods in San Francisco but guess they gotta dangle incentives to keep us coming across the bay...so fine, definitely coming back soon!

Yelp
Delirama was excellent! The Mama was probably the best pastrami sandwich I've ever had! Came mostly fork food, but the Grin Creeper was decent. Will be back for more!

Yelp
Popped in on a Weds afternoon and was warmly welcomed to the tap room. Their beers are high quality and worth the visit. Loved that i could pick up a few singles to go and those prices are competitive. Didnt get the beertender's name but he was well versed on the organization and their produxts. Will definitely come back for more!

Yelp
Stumbled into this new brewery on our way to see a show at the Greek theatre in Berkeley. They have a great selection including some awesome IPAs. The beer names are great too. Like cats under the stars. The service was friendly and happy to answer questions. They don't offer food, but the beer selection is worth the stop. Because it's a newly opened place everything is very nice, clean, and new. The decor is fun and comfortable. Next time I'm in Berkeley I will definitely stop back in.

Yelp
I'll keep it short ... LEGITIMATE ITALIAN BEEFS Get a side of juice to pour all over it and ENJOY. Black lager, Chicago Dog and onion dip also very much on point. Truly legit beefs - com'n geddit.

Yelp
Insanely great beers. Best pastrami sandwich I've ever had. Chill vibes. Open at 9am on Saturdays. This is the way. 100% recommend.

Yelp
Finest of Hand Crafted beers in the San Francisco Area. These are true professionals and craftsmen! Parking is a bitch, so get there how best you can...it is worth the effort.

Lauren S.

Yelp
If you enjoy beer and cider this is a great place not far from campus! The "Actually is Perry" is a great apple and pear cider!! Good ambience and service.

Laurie R.

Yelp
Great beers, delicious sandwich, and lovely service. The milk pour was a delight. I would just like to see the lights dimmed a bit for better ambience. But regardless, we will definitely be back!

Yelp

Yelp
Best Italian sub I've had on the west coast. Beer was good too. Great to see this new addition to the area's craft beer scene.
