Michigan Liquor Shortage Causes Headache for Detroit Bars and Restaurants | Eater Detroit

"A regional restaurant chain is converting some full table-service locations to a counter-service, fast-casual format known as Olga’s Fresh Grille; the concept was piloted in Royal Oak and the company plans to convert its Troy location to the new format next year." - Brenna Houck

Been to several Olga's so I wasn't going to review this one. But it is so different from the rest I've been to it seems necessary. First, it's loud. Music is loud, all the other conversations add to it, plus sounds from the kitchen. Needs sound deadening materials now! I can only imagine the headaches the staff get daily. The layout is odd. You order at a short counter with the menu displayed on screens above, they give you a number, you fill your cup at the fountain dispenser, grab some napkins & utensils then you pick a seat. Sounds like those golden arches places, right? So far, yes, sadly. The staff is nicer, though. The food a higher quality. Menu is significantly shorter, though. There is outdoor seating, as well, on the north side.

Divinely Reviewed: Olga’s Kitchen (Woodward – Michigan) Unfortunately, my recent visit to Olga’s Kitchen on Woodward was disappointing from start to finish. Our Olga sandwiches were rung up incorrectly—they left off the lettuce, tomato, and honey mustard when we only asked to remove the tomato. This meant we had to wait again for the correct sandwiches, causing the rest of our food to sit. To add to the confusion, one of the sandwiches was served on a plate that had random grains of rice on it, with no explanation given. This left us wondering if the plate was clean or if a mistake had been made. It didn’t stop there—one of our salads were forgotten and only brought out after we asked for it. And even after all of these errors, when we reminded them about the fries we had originally ordered, we were still asked to go back to the register and pay for them separately instead of offering them as a courtesy for the inconvenience. I truly enjoy supporting restaurants, but this visit lacked attention to detail and basic customer care. I hope they use this feedback to create a better experience for future guests. #DivineDestinations #DivinelyReviewed #DivineIvriy #Reflection #OlgasKitchenWoodward

It’s all a little different you come in and you order and they bring the food to your table. It’s not like the one I’m accustomed to, but I would say it’s still a 10 out of a 10 so the one I’m accustomed to as you come in they see you and then someone comes and take your order. This does cut down on wait staff so this one is pretty good as well so don’t meet me there. Beat me there.

They have never gotten a single order right. Not a single one. For example I got a BBQ salad and this is what they gave me. Plain salad with ranch. I genuinely don’t know how a place can mess up every order. It’s wild. 1. How hard is it to read a receipt and match the receipt to the order? 2. The manager doesn’t even care to make things right. Team Schostak Family should do a complete overhaul of who works there. Hope they see this.

Olga's Kitchen sent me a free dessert reward through the app, so I had to claim it, and I couldn't possibly visit without getting their Spinach and Cheese Pie, too! I tried the Spinach and Cheese Pie for the first time earlier this year, and it is incredible! The phyllo is crispy and flaky, which perfectly contrasts the creamy spinach and feta cheese. You've got to give it a shot! The Cinnamon Sugar Snackers take their best bread and elevate it with cinnamon sugar and cream cheese frosting! There wasn't as much cinnamon sugar on them this time around, but their bread is incredible on its own, so anything added to it just makes it better! Not to mention that cream cheese frosting is amazing! Edit: This location is phenomenal! I love the food and the service is even better! All of the staff is extremely kind and they're always happy to help!

We got an Olga salad and Olga sandwich with unseasoned fries to go. They had no salt packets to offer carry out orders and the food was terrible. My husband said his sandwich was flavorless, and my Olga salad was iceberg lettuce with a few pieces of red onion and tomatoes and a light dusting of feta. There were no olives and the dressing like it was a cheap grocery store bottled brand. I don’t know how they can charge the price they do for food like that, when you can get better at a Coney Island… we won’t be returning and that is a shame because Olga’s was always a Detroit staple.

The only thing I didn't care for was that you have to order everything at the counter first. I prefer the traditional way of having a waiter/waitress come up & check on you, then get a bill, & pay tip. Also, their AC was too cold. They eventually turned it off though. My friend got the chicken Olga, Mac & cheese, & fries. It was her first time there & she enjoyed it. I got the all you can eat soup, salad, & snackers which was very reasonably priced. Soup choices were white bean chili, broccoli cheddar, & peasant soup... all 3 were great. Food was hot & perfect. We will definitely be back again!

This evening I was excited to go to Olga's for date night in a different location then my regular Olgas. I am very unhappy all the way around with the Royal Oak location. I walk in, to someone at the register on her cell phone not acknowledging im standing right in front of her while she continues texting and laughing on her phone. I say excuse me, do we seat ourselves. She informs me I need to place my order there at the counter before I find my seat. I ask for a menu. She didnt know where one was, rolled her eyes, then tossed one to me across the counter. I place my order and ask why it costs more then my usual Olgas. She doesnt know & someone else steps in and finishes taking my credit card. On the credit card machine it asks for a tip. I state to the woman why do I give a tip before I get my food, I dont know how well the waitress will be. Id like to leave it at the end (she has no answer) so I leave the tip. She then hands me the receipt and sits us at a table. I realize she has charged me for 2 olgas instead of one, the reason I thought the final price was high is now realized. I take it to the counter she explains its my fault for asking for an Olga and make it larger. She charged me for one of each initially. Smh! So, I get that taken care of and my dates entire order came out 5 minutes before mine. When mine arrives, I ordered the snacker..the fries are extremely hard and ice cold and the chicken was wrongly seasoned. I take the plate to the counter and as im walking the girl smirks. I explain my fries are cold and im unhappy. I asked for a refund. I said my date has finished eating by this time, and I dont want to eat. She didnt give me a refund. Said she could offer me hot fries. I stated that doesnt justify bringing me cold fries when my date has already finished eating, my fries should have been fresh and hot from the start. She didnt give me a refund still. Brings the fries over finally and asks if there is anything she can do to make me enjoy my experience. I said no. You have already given me poor service from the time I walked in and now my food has arrived cold, not to mention, you just told me it was my fault for charging me for 2 of the same sandwiches when I ordered one. So no. I will never step foot in this restaurant location again as I had already explained I eat at Olgas in my local city a minimum of 2x a week. The Royal Oak location had the music blaring, hard to have a conversation, you place your order off a small black and white menu, tip before they even give you service and do not provide friendly, inviting, customer satisfaction. The food was ice cold. Horrible front staff at Royal Oak.
