Olivella’s Pivots to Italian Sandwiches and Lunch Service in Deep Ellum - Eater Dallas

"Olivella’s Pizza and Wine has shifted its focus to Italian sandwiches to attract the lunch crowd. The menu includes a variety of subs, paninis, appetizers, pizzas, pastas, salads, soups, and a small selection of wine and beer. A standout item is the Pappa Joe panini, which has become a bestseller despite being named after the vice president of operations' father, who wouldn't eat it himself." - Courtney E. Smith

Ordered the bread and cheese dip for an appetizer, one of the best dishes ever! The Caesars salad was phenomenal. One of the top 2 pizzas I've ever had. The crust on the Neopolitan-style pizza is amazing. I had the black truffle and it was delicious. The thin-crust chicken Alfredo was good, but a little bland. The pepperoni pizza was great also.

Joseph Owens

Google
Rated as one of the best pizzas in the entire state, I felt I had to try it for myself. I ordered a half Drunken Pig/half Della Carne pizza Roman style. The pizza was the best I can ever remember tasting. Also had the hand made tiramisu for dessert which was also amazing. Excellent service by an attentive staff.

Google
Best Italian Restaurant in Dallas! The lasagna was orgasmic! Creamy, cheesy, sauce to die for! The pizza is amazing with a soft crust and homemade goodness. An intimate spot with quiet atmosphere. No TVs with sports on and place to chat. Perfect date night restaurant.

Let me start by saying that I eat out a lot. Having said that, I have never before checked out Olivellas and I am so glad I did. First of all- the food was good. The Pizza was a spot on and the cheese dip with artichokes was so good that we at the inhaled the entire thing before we could take a breath (or a picture🤪) But- here is what impressed me the most- the service and the overall vibe. I would generally not review a place that is mostly pizza but the overall experience inspired me. Service was friendly from the front door on in- the manager? Right there checking on us and hoping we come back soon. Specials? Yep and the ever available staff was there letting us know about half price wine night and 40% off pasta specials. All in all it was just a good, fun experience with great service for an affordable price and those have been hard to come by since covid. Go check it out. I think you will be happy. We sat inside and it was a good spot for conversation and relatively quiet. But Feel free to take the whole family. The covered patio with ac was a great spot with lots of families who really seemed to be enjoying themselves as well.

Google
I would show pics of the delicious pizzas we had but all you get is pics of our empty plates and wine bottle because the food was THAT good. Wonderful staff and service! Seated immediately and very taken care of!

Google
We had a great time at Olivella’s Pizza and Wine! Our server, Sienna, was super friendly and helpful, and the manager/ owner (forgot to ask her name) also checked in to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed — great hospitality all around. The food was delicious: we had a half-and-half pizza (Black Truffle and Chicken Alfredo), cheese dip with house-made bread, Chicken Alfredo pasta, and tiramisu. Everything was full of flavor, and the tiramisu and cheese dip was especially amazing. Highly recommend!

Google
Fantastic first time here. I got the carne pizza and my wife got pasta. We both loved our meal! We were seated quickly, and were treated with great service. The manager greeted us and asked how everything was going. The pizza was incredible, not greasy or heavy. Tons of flavors in there. Price was acceptable for the quality of ingredients. My only complaint was our waiter was a little too casual, for a brief moment sitting at the table next to us trying to start up a conversation (awkward.) But it was fine, and offset by the professional management. Might be our new favorite pizza and pasta place. We will be back again!

Google
Food was just ok. We ordered a panini with pesto chicken, spaghetti with grilled chicken, bruschetta and pizza roll. Overall thoughts. Grilled chicken looks more like boiled chicken. No real flavor. The panini bread just felt lacking. Nothing felt fresh. The only decent thing was the pizza roll. The sauce it came with though, needs a lot of work. The sauce is basically watery ketchup heated up. They try. I’m sure the pizza is great ( based off the roll and the brick oven inside) but they could put in some work for the other menu items.

Yelp
We went to Olivellas Lakewood for dinner after our power went out after a storm. They were really busy, I guess because nobody else has power. The food was great. Oru server Amy was really quick, and gave us great service. The other waiters were handling the big rush really good. One of the other waiters, Matt, was joking with the tables around us, and us too. He apologized for us not having power and said he hoped it came back on soon. They were running out of a lot of stuff when we came in, but our pizza, the regular margarita, was delicious. We're going back for more.

Yelp
Olivella's staff and food are constantly excellent. The atmosphere in the restaurant is pleasant and when the weather permits, they have an awesome patio. Highly recommend.

Yelp
We went here for dinner on a Sunday night because I was in the mood for something light and not too heavy, and this restaurant has excellent thin crust pizza. The kid had the kid's spaghetti. It comes with a meatball (both for $7), but she is not a big meat eater so we asked to hold the meatball. She liked the spaghetti and the sauce, but the amount of sauce that came in a separate little dish was not enough and she likes a lot of sauce. I asked for more. I was surprised to see that I was charged $2 for more sauce. I understand that $2 is not a lot and maybe not even enough to mention, but it irritated me that there would be a charge for extra sauce when the price of the spaghetti and meatball was not adjusted when we did not get the meatball. It seems they wanted it both ways: charge us more for what really was a small amount of extra sauce, maybe a 1/3 of a cup, and then not reduce the bill when the costliest item, the meatball, was not included. It seems really cheap. The wife liked her Primavera salad. We shared the bruschetta and it was really good. The pizza was good but not quite as crisp as I remember. The three stars are for cheapness, the incredibly loud atmosphere, to the point where it was just unpleasant to be inside, and the absence of any carbonated drinks because their machine was broken (?).

Yelp
Great service and atmosphere. Love sitting on deck. We have had basically all pizzas and wines are great. Wait staff very good.

Yelp
My fiancé is huge pizza lover and he knows his pizza. He thought the pizza was ok but tasted good. I enjoyed the pesto chicken and pepperoni pizza and had no complaints. The pizza actually kept us full until dinner. Surprisingly we thought the restaurant would be packed during lunch, but we were pleasantly surprised that it wasn't. We enjoyed our lunch outside on the patio and the weather was perfect for it.

Yelp
We've been to Olivella's several times now, and they've always been consistent in their delivery. The food is reasonably priced for Italian, is absolutely delicious, and their service is always top notch. We love their bruschettas and appetizers. I keep coming back for their spaghetti and meatballs, and my husband loves their Neapolitan pizzas!

Charlotte R.

Yelp
Favorite pizza place in all of Dallas. Everything from their Neapolitan style pizza (if you don't like Neapolitan you'll probably not like their pizza, but personally I love Neapolitan) to their pasta dishes to the salads is great. Desert pizza is so good. Can get very busy some nights but often very chill. Servers are always attentive, kind, and timely. Never had a bad server.
google avatar

Mindy R.

Yelp
You know, I'm always excited to order from Olivella's but I'm also always underwhelmed. Dang. Tonight we ordered a cheese pizza, the soppressata and sausage pizza, and a Caesar salad. My son refused to eat the cheese pizza. What kid refuses pizza? Well, upon further inspection, it was undercooked and the sauce was sour. One piece half eaten and Not worth saving the rest for leftovers. The Soppressata and sausage was good. Still underdone but it didn't have marina on it...So edible. Caesar was good.

Yelp
If you're in their area, Olivella's Pizza and Wine is a great place for lunch or dinner! They have a fun atmosphere and the service is always amazing! The food is also pretty damn good! Whether your in the mood for wood fired pizza, pasta or wine, they have a nice selection. Their meatballs are also to die for! It's a must stop when I'm in the SMU area!

Ellie L.

Yelp
Great authentic Italian pizza! Quick delivery and pick-up. Good casual neighborhood spot.

Yelp
We had the Margherita pizza, and it was fantastic. Very very thin crust with delicious homemade style mozzarella and fresh basil. The salads were good and would have been great if there was a different dressing choice. The pesto for the caprese salad was delicious, being unique with its citrus flavor. The service was mediocre, would have appreciated if our drinks were refreshed. Our menu had dried food on it. There were flies in the bathroom. The ambience is neighborhood pizza joint, and being so it is a little tired and dirty.
google avatar

Tijon L.

Yelp
My new favorite spot. The pizza is amazing and fresh. All ingredients just have a a kick of flavor. Tried the pesto pasta and it was AMAZING!

Yelp
We will never eat pizza anywhere else!! Great service and great pizza and wine. Getting a free "extra pizza" during happy hour is a BONUS. YOU ARE MISSING OUT IF YOU DONT EAT HERE!!

Yelp
This is my favorite pizza in Dallas, but it pains me to give this a mediocre review. I would definitely give the Hillcrest-SMU-Park Cities location a try to see if the service and dining experience was better but in the meantime, we will order takeout primarily or just opt for closer options. - Food: This is by far my favorite pizza in Dallas. It reminds me of my experience in Italy, or at least what I remember of it. I truly love the pizza crust and it is something that we get takeout frequently. - Ambience: I have such high hopes for the outdoor patio, but when the weather is cold, the heaters were not working. We have never dared to sit out on the patio during the summer because we have a small child. It does not appear that there is much airflow on the patio in the summer either. - Service: I've been to this Mockingbird location, at least 7-8 times for dine-in service. The service is consistently mediocre as others have described. This service feels like what you'd get on Greenville Ave vs. in Lakewood. Also, one of my close friends had a really terrible experience with one of the servers here - that really made me question dining in as well. Because of all these factors, it discourages me from ordering over here over places Like Greenville Ave., Pizza Company, which is closer to my location, even though I don't prefer the pizza as much.

Yelp
Love this place. It's been our go to pizza joint for a couple years now. Spicy sausage, funky cheese and a great wine selection! Thin and wood fired pizza, so tasty. Fresh salads and homemade dressings are a plus.
google avatar

Suzanne S.

Yelp
Love their tiramisu (always order some for the next day) and their caprese salad - yum
google avatar

Yelp
Great place with alfresco dining and enormous salads, and their thin crust pizza is unbelievable! Service was quick and friendly, and with a wry sense of humor. Casual atmosphere and comfortable ambiance makes for a relaxing dining experience!

Yelp
Best pizza in Lakewood (without question)! Friendly staff, great vibe, lots of specials throughout the week - this is our "treat yourself" go-to.

T G.

Yelp
Outstanding, ultra-thin crust pizza, good choice of salads, large wine collection and attentive manager. Review based on multiple visits with plans to return!

Joshua J.

Yelp
Live this place and they have a fun wine selection Great for grabbing a pizza and a bottle of wine and sit on the patio.
google avatar

Yelp
First time here, it was great! Unfortunately we weren't super hungry so shared a pizza only, it was one the best we've ever had! Really looking forward to coming back and trying other things on the menu.

Yelp
First visit here and we were pleased. We shared the Olivella salad, a veggie pizza added pepperoni, and the small dessert pizza. We had a delicious bottle of wine with a little mix up but the manager took care of the issue and we left happy. My only complaint was how loud it was inside. They have a lot of tables cramped into a small space. We were expecting a little more relaxed vibe. Not their fault, just something to be aware of. Again the food and the service were great!

Ellie S.

Yelp
Very rude customer service. The gentleman I spoke with Jake. Was remarkably THE PROBLEM. Definitely someone who doesn't understand that tone of voice and word choice is very important when talking to a customer. The food just okay nothing special . And the ambiance was just average nothing special. Way better places to go the Olivella's and that's a fact.

Michaeline W.

Yelp
Sunday brunch turned into pizza brunch! Came in around noon and restaurant was not too busy (which is a plus during brunch hours). They have the options for their regular lunch menu as well as a traditional breakfast/brunch menu options. $3 mimosas are a steal. We ordered a Caesar salad to share and it was the perfect starter before the main event. Croutons tasted fresh, lettuce was crispy, and Caesar dressing was perfect. We had the Margherita Neapolitanstyle to share for two and it was very light, not too thick, perfect crust texture was soft and gooey with a crunch outer. Perfect cheese to sauce ratio. I would say if you want something heavier, maybe don't choose this pizza but for us it was perfect paired with salad. Cute decorated restaurant with fairly attentive service. I should note that this wasn't my first time, but first time I've been in years. Consistently good.

Yelp
Let me start with YUM! My husband and I just moved to the area, so we wanted to check out the local eateries. My husband is not big on pizza, but I say that's because we really only had chains in our previous neighborhood. We saw this place a week ago, and decided to come last night. Our waiter was very friendly and welcoming. We started with salads and sangria. My husband had the Caesar, and I had the Primavera. They were both delicious, and I thoroughly enjoyed mine. We tried the red and the white sangria. The white was my favorite because I like sweet and the red was a little tart for me. We then got a metro half Dream and half Black Truffle. They were both scrumptious, but my favorite was the Dream because it was so flavorful. We will absolutely be back!

Mark L.

Yelp
Our favorite place in the n! Perfect pick up experience. The whole family can get exactly what they want in the order is always exactly correct!
google avatar

Quan S.

Yelp
The atmosphere was relaxed and very laid back. We sat outside since the the sun had set, but they had fans set up which made it very comfortable. The bruschetta appetizer was very tasty, and both pizza options did not disappoint. The service and attentiveness was great.

Ourfa M.

Yelp
Best pizza in Dallas! Hands down! Oh and that cheese dip! Just order it and thank me later

Yelp
Placed a to go/ catering order for lasagna, focaccia bread, and Cesar salad for 8 on Friday 11/24/23 at 11am. Picked it up same day at 3:30PM and it was perfect ! They were so very kind, customer service was top notch (John) and the packaging was above par. This is our new go to place for catering. I have never ordered from Olivellas before and was HIGHLY impressed / recommend. The food was delicious! Made our night so special. We loved it. Fantastic customer service - delicious food = amazing night at home with friends and family. Thank you Olivella's in Lakewood!

Alyssa O.

Yelp
The food was great! I got the bucatini pasta with sausage and the sausage was super flavorful. I definitely would come back again.
google avatar

Diane D.

Yelp
Came here at the recommendation of a family member who said the pizza here is better than the pizza at my favorite pizza place. So we came to try it. The salad we ordered was great! The pizza was good but not as good as my family member made it out to be. It was a lot of pizza for two people to eat but I'd rather pay the same amount for a smaller pizza that knocks my socks off. This one didn't do it for me but the Service was outstanding.

Yelp
My girl and I love it here, the perfect place to go after watching the sunset at White Rock Lake.

Yelp
Our regular Sunday night haunt had recently changed their hours, so my wife and I decided to finally visit Olivella's. It was a great decision. We split an Olivella's salad (frisee, Gorgonzola, walnuts, pears, and a flavorful vinaigrette). The salad wasn't heavy or overwrought. The elements in proportion and harmony. We decided to have some pizzas, since the perfume of baking dough was tantalizing us both. Nicole chose the white truffle pizza while I chose the margherita. The truffle oil was intoxicating, though we agreed that the acidity of the sun-dried tomatoes needed a grounding counterpoint (maybe a little fresh oregano and thyme). The margherita was everything it should have been (savory, tomatoes, garlic, fresh basil, mozzarella), but the star of both pizzas was the crust. BNX~

Yelp
Olivella's primary interest is serving pizza that will leave you satisfied and excited to return. Parking is limited and dining space is small, so maybe consider take out. Well worth the experience though! If you have a small party or want some wine with your pizza, just come a little early or leave with a little extra time on your hands. The portions are welcoming for the price, and they deliver where it counts. Texture, temperature, ingredient quality and quantity, consistency, wait time, you name it - they've got it down. The wait staff is memorable and amiable. They have quick recommendations, accommodations, and responsive yet unobtrusive timing. If you want an authentic Italian style pizza, go to Olivella's. Tip: the salad is giant, split it. Note for Olivella's: y'all might want to put that basil on your margarita pizza nearer to the end so it doesn't wilt so much (picture included). Otherwise I'd say you have a 10/10 dining experience.

Katie E.

Yelp
Amazing pizza! Great atmosphere and friendly employees. Also recommend their appetizers.
google avatar

Blair K.

Yelp
The best pizza in Dallas with the best staff. The meat and cheese plate is to die for and the Diavola pizza is killer. The staff are super accommodating. Rey is the best and will recognize you the second you come in the door and greet you by name!! He also remembers your order :) Highly highly recommend!!

Molly W.

Yelp
We loved sitting on the covered outdoor patio on a drizzly night. Service was great, we enjoyed our food, and we didn't feel rushed at all! Seems like a great neighborhood spot. Loved our time here!

Catherine C.

Yelp
Hands down some of the best pizza we've had in Dallas. We ordered the Snow White with extra mushrooms, and it was fantastic. Service was very good when we went to dine in. We have a new favorite pizza restaurant.
google avatar

Collin B.

Yelp
Always our go-to date night spot, the black truffle pizza and the pizza rolls are a must. And don't forget the ranch!!! Rey is the best server- great energy and excellent service!

Bodhi K.

Yelp
food was excellent and I very much appreciated the non gendered single stall restrooms
google avatar

Angie B.

Yelp
Really nice place! It's warm and cozy and the service is really good! We sat in the outside/inside section. I was dubious but the server assured us that the heaters would keep us warm and they did. We ordered the thin veggie pie and it was good. Crust was crispy and our salad was fresh. We took home a 40 percent off bottle of wine (try the house Cabernet! It's delicious!) Definitely a sweet place to go for pizza, good service and ambiance!
google avatar

Keith B.

Yelp
Rude staff and terrible customer service. We ordered dinner directly from their website and their staff forgot to send the main course of a pizza. When I called to explain the situation I was told it was not their issue since they use a 3rd party delivery service. I'm sorry, I didn't order from a 3rd party, I ordered from you. They were extremely unhelpful especially the manager who was very rude and combative. He finally agreed to credit the $18 for the pizza, but I still ended up paying $50 for a salad and dessert (with tip) and no dinner. Train your staff to be less rude when they mess up a customer's order! What a terrible way to run your business!
google avatar

Meme T.

Yelp
As I stated previously, I have been frequenting this place for years. However, out of all of those years I never knew anyone by name until recent, Rey. Rey provides excellent customer service! ‍

Nicholas D.

Yelp
We moved into the highland meadows area recently and found this place as a substitute for Partenope Ristorante (though it is near impossible to find something that comes close). We got a few pizzas over the course of a few months and enjoyed them, surprised at the quality and delighted to have found some solid neopolitan pizza in this area. Unfortunately the last two times we ordered pizza here, it was legitimately terrible. The dough was tough, the cheese hardened like wax, and the toppings were distributed terribly. I don't know if they lost a crucial staff member or changed their sourcing but somebody tell me why this place went so downhill. I will keep trying it for a bit hoping they step it back up!
google avatar

Andrew M.

Yelp
Fat man approved. Yup. I strongly suggest you visit. This was my first visit. I'm honestly delighted I went. We had a fun server. He was new and a bit edgy. Smack was flying through the meal. I instigated and he complimented the banter. Ordered meatball appetizers. Very nice, not great. If the meatballs were seeped in their sauce, I think it might have been just a tad better. Pizzas: please if you love yourself get the sausage and pistachio. Truly a wonderful invention. Next was my surprise. We let our server pick our second pizza. Yes it's dangerous but hey... Second pizza was the ugly pig or something like that. It was fantastic and i personally avoid jalapeños. Try these and be happy. Note I almost never give 5 stars. Four is terrific.

Lizzie W.

Yelp
Super pizza! Great wine selection. But most importantly, the friendliest service. Rey took such awesome care of us. I'll be back!

C Z.

Yelp
We were nearby at a popular restaurant and the wait list was 45 minutes, so we give this place a chance. Bad mistake. So, the wait staff is rude and surly as well as forgetful. The $3 mimosa special sounds good until you realizes it contains basically no champagne and is maybe 4 or 5 ounces of orange juice. At our table we had folks order the Breakfast Panini ($14), the burrito ($14?)and a small flatbread pizza ($23). So the breakfast panini contents sounds good, until it comes out. It is scrambled eggs with no discernible seasoning, with a tiny bit of sausage in the scrambled eggs. BLAND and unappealing. The Pizza for $23 was reported to be bland, thin and stingy toppings on an 11 x 20 bit of flat bread. The burrito was reported to be edible, but not anything amazing... on the bland side. The only thing tasty was a (small) side salad that purported to have goat cheese. There were maybe a couple bits the size of a small marble. No one in the group had anything to say nice about this place.

Andrea S.

Yelp
Super great pizza!!! Service was quick on a weekday night. Best pizza in town in my opinion

Mel B.

Yelp
I love this place. Great food. Great patio. Always excellent service. My fave is Rey! Always happy and his service is the greatest in all the land. My day always get better when I get to see Rey!

Yelp
Brought Mom for early dinner. Have not been since pre pandemic. Place empty at 4:45. So great social distancing also great patio. We shared salad and pizza. House salad mixed greens, pears, walnuts salad was delicious. We ordered the Margarita pizza regular crust. Other than the middle of pizza being soggy flavors great. Seemed like the oven pizza could have been cooked a little longer. Friendly attentive waiter.
