The 25 Best Restaurants In The Catskills 2024

"None of the food at Oliver’s, a British spot near Mount Tremper, is super flashy, but that’s exactly why we love it. Pub staples like savory hand pies and lamb bangers and mash are hearty and restorative, especially on a colder fall day or after your outdoor plans get rained out. The tavern sits on the ground floor of a restored 19th-century inn, and we’ve definitely thought about booking a stay here so that we can linger at the bar for a few rounds of elderflower spritzes and rosemary Negronis." - carina finn koeppicus, hannah albertine, anne cruz

Oliver’s is such a special place. We came here for my wife’s 30th birthday. Fantastic drinks, even better food. Make sure you try the pies and the bangers and mash. after dinner you can play a game of pool, they have a beautiful table. High recommend for anyone 10/10

Oliver’s at Howland House near Woodstock, NY, is an absolute gem! The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a relaxing meal. The food is simply delicious—every dish is thoughtfully prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients and bursting with flavor. Ask about their special dessert! The setting is beautiful, blending rustic charm with elegance, and you can tell every detail has been carefully curated to create a warm and memorable dining experience. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, Oliver’s is a must-visit. We can’t wait to go back and enjoy this incredible spot again!

We popped in to Oliver’s in need of quick wifi access and came back the same night for dinner. What a wonderful discovery! The food was absolutely delicious - as fans of the Great British Baking Show, we were highly impressed with the pastry in the hand pies, and the fillings were so tasty as well. The grilled cheese was so satisfying and the chicken pot pie was the perfect amount of savory comfort. Possibly even better than the food were the staff - cannot emphasize how welcoming, friendly, kind and attentive they are. It was an all around really great experience and we will definitely be back.

Oliver’s is a new restaurant in an old renovated hotel building that kept a whole lot of its charm on the outside and inside too. The floors look to be the original! They have just opened and they are still working on renovating the main dining room from what I could see when I looked in the windows afterwards. Service was friendly and effective for such a small crew - host, bartender, 1 bus boy, and some in the kitchen. All the tables were numbered and you have to order at the bar. I presume this is either temporary or a solution for the bar seating area of the soon to be full restaurant. I admit, I would have liked full service but I have to give them wiggle room for just opening up very recently. The food was pretty dang good, and we had the fresh cavatelli, chicken pot pie and the lamb banger (not pictured). The food portions were reasonable and not oversized at all - we admit to have probably wanted one more banger as it only came with one to begin with for the $23 price tag but then it probably would have been even more expensive as they do make them in house as well. Overall, a charming experience and felt good to support a local restaurant. The vibes were immaculate and 10 out of 5 if I could! Excellent drink menu, excellent wine menu, and really great spot for a date in my opinion! I would probably go back in 2-3 months as they work everything out, keep up the great work!!

What a lovely spot for a family meal. My husband and I were warmly welcomed after our long drive from NYC into this little culinary oasis. The calm, classy, yet comfortable atmosphere is excellent for whether you are dining/drinking solo at the bar or with loved ones around a table. The prices are very reasonable and you cannot go wrong with any option from the thoughtful menu. We ordered four or five dishes to share as a family and each one had a specialness to it that really left our tastebuds inspired. It's the kind of menu that you want to try to copy and make yourself but you know you won't be able to make it as nice as the chefs do at Oliver's! We loved the cocktails we ordered and we even made buddies with some people who wanted to play a round of pool with us in the lovely room with the fireplace. Good times!

Oliver's was excellent! On Wednesday they had their pop-up menu. We ordered kale salad with sliced fruit, gyoza, and ramen (pictured). Food and service was great. We also got takeout another night and had hand pies (amazing), autumn salad, and fingerling potatoes. Again, everything was delicious. The bar and restaurant were clean and cozy. Can't say much more. Go and find out for yourself

Great hand pies and atmosphere for people without children. The Gilly drink is 11/10 delicious. Other menu items like the pastas were undercooked and under seasoned. It feels hit or miss whenever we eat here. You need to order everything at the bar, and it can start to feel like you’re waiting your own table if ordering more than a few items. Could be family friendly, but I’m not sure they want to be as there are no high chairs or kid leaning games in the parlor room (fair enough not everyone needs to accommodate children & some people prefer adult only spaces). If dining with kids, try Foxfire Mountain House or The Pines instead, who seem more accommodating & have table and bar service.

The Graham & Co team recommended this place for dinner and I'm so glad I went! Great beer, wine, and liquor selection. Friendly, upbeat staff. I got the Crispy Fingerling Potatoes (needs more aioli) for a starter and the Housemade Mafalde Pasta as a main (pictured). Lovely back patio with a firepit and a nice front patio (faces the parking lot) to enjoy an evening out. Cant' wait to come back! Thanks!

Yelp
To start, I had a Katerskill IPA. It was one of my favorite IPAs I have had in the area. It was a draft and served extremely cold. For my main course, I had the Mafalde Bolognese. This was the BEST bolognese I have ever had. The noodles were homemade and cooked perfectly. The meat was delicious and savory. I will definitely be back for this dish. The food was served promptly and the service was polite and friendly. It is pub style, so you order from the bar and then they bring the food to you. The ambiance was charming and dimly lit. They had indoor and outdoor seating. They also had a very nice pool table.

Yelp
Oliver's was a mixed bag. Pros: * Beautifully renovated and attractive space that is part of an old inn. * Pool table! * Pretty good British pub-style food. The chicken pot pie could use a little extra salt but overall quite solid, especially the creamy tomato soup and savory hand pies. Cons: * Dishes were kind of overpriced, especially at lunch. The hand pies were $7 each and rapidly vanished. The chicken pot pie was $25 and came with a salad but it still wasn't a ton. * Service was hot and cold. You order at the bar, and your food is brought to your table. The bartender sometimes seemed nice but then sometimes seemed to not care about customers.

Yelp
If you really step away from Woodstock's many restaurants+lounges and drive just a few short minutes through the back roads, is Mount Tremper, NY. And directly at the crossroads of Wittenberg and Rt212 sits this British-influenced bar serving light bites and nice meals. But do also drop in for a pint or a cocktail at the bar with a snack or two. Oliver's is Howland House Inn's on-site restaurant and is open to the public. After the pouring rain seized a bit on a muggy Friday night, coming here to unwind a bit was needed. Even at night as we walked in here, the patio looks inviting and done like in bluestone(?) patchwork style. The design inside is vintagey with dark woods- It's simple and easy-going- but still keeping a pub feel. Order at the bar then sit. Or sit and order at the bar. I'm not sure what comes first- but we did the last. I like the narrow menu style because it isn't too broad. The menu is filled nicely with something for every eating lifestyle which I always appreciate. Plus the menu is fairly diverse with banh mi, focaccia, Mediterranean bites, etc. In all honesty, these folks serve honest and simple food without the frufru. Cocktails are certainly crafty- minus the 'pow'. Creative though. Our white bean dip starter was creamy and full of garlicky goodness+bursting with flavor. Our main plates arrived about 10 minutes into our appetizer (@~_@~). All good though- especially on a rainy night and almost closing time. My mixed green+feta+herbs salad was fabulous on its own- but for $5, I added the 4 shrimp. Can't complain. Thank you to the chef for suggesting lemon+oil dressing for my mustard allergy. And Thank you Jill. And Hubs loved his mussels+ seafood+chorizo done in a saffron broth. Oliver's definitely looks like the spot to come to if you're waiting for a rainstorm to pass while you sink in a pint or two or a meal like hubs did- or, for a weekend brunch.

Yelp
Three and a half, actually, maybe. We went for dinner on Thursday night; we'd been to this place in two prior lives (when it was "4 Corners" and "Duchess Anne"). The space has been refurbished and looks quite nice: the fireplace now burns wood, not gas, the windows don't leak cold air, a claw footed pool table sits in the middle of the dining room inviting kids and others to have some fun. As it turned out one staff members was out sick, which obviously had an impact on service, but there are other "issues": we were served a delicious focaccia with soft butter without plates; we weren't offered water. Sure, with one staff out service suffers, understandably, but other diners who came in after us were served before us. Nice cocktails. I ordered the Tunisian lamb but couldn't have it because the delivered lamb froze (not sure how or why, but glitches are understandable). I ordered bangers and mash , which was good yet underwhelming. They don't serve coffee, understandably, but added to all other "issues" took away from the enjoyment. Bottom line: Olivers has unrealized potential, and might just work well, but I was disappointed.

Yelp
What a great find! Was staying nearby for the weekend- stopped by and had an excellent meal. A small menu which changes and had various daily specials. We shared rosemary focaccia bread and one of the hand pies to start with (smoked trout) they had several others- really tasty. For mains we had peach panzanella salad, seafood bowl and lamb sausages and mash. All were really really good. Portions were maybe not huge so perhaps order sides or apps if hungry. The place is a bar / restaurant at a local inn. You can sit inside of they had 2 outdoor seating areas. Good drinks and friendly bar staff. Would definitely return if anywhere nearby.

Yelp
Loved this cozy local dining spot. Sat at the bar and had the chicken pot pie. So good. My sister-in-law has the hand pies and loved those two. Cocktails and service were top notch!

Yelp
Bartender / Waitress was insulting and arrogant. We asked for a menu and if there was breakfast, and she barked, "What's the matter with you? Why don't you go to Wafflehouse." Place sucks and they are rude as hell.

Daniel D.

Yelp
Beautifully done space with interesting cocktail specials. Lilly, the bartender, is charming. The Tavern menu is consistently good.

Yelp
A real over-priced disappointment. Sorry, but with so many other good options in the area, this place just doesn't cut it.
